50 Random Facts That Make You Wonder What In The World Has Happened To America

Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Google+Share on LinkedInShare on StumbleUponEmail this to someone

Our world is changing at a pace that is so staggering these days that it can be really hard to fully grasp the significance of what we are witnessing.  Hopefully the collection of random facts below will help you to “connect the dots” just a little bit.  On one level, the facts below may not seem related.  However, what they all do have in common is that they show just how much the United States has fundamentally changed.  Do you ever just sit back and wonder what in the world has happened to America?  The truth is that the America that so many of us once loved so much has been shattered into a thousand pieces.  The “land of the free and the home of the brave” has been transformed into a socialized Big Brother nanny state that is oozing with corruption and has accumulated the biggest mountain of debt in the history of the world.  The greatest economic machine that the world has ever seen is falling apart before our very eyes, and even when our politicians actually try to do something right (which is quite rare) the end result is still a bunch of garbage.  For those who still love this land (and there are a lot of us) it is heartbreaking to watch America slowly die.

The following are 50 random facts that show just how dramatically America has changed….

#50) A new report released by the United Nations is publicly calling for the establishment of a world currency and none of the major news networks are even covering it.

#49) The state of California is so broke that Arnold Schwarzenegger has ordered California State Controller John Chiang to reduce state worker pay for July to the federal minimum allowed by law — $7.25 an hour for most state workers.

#48) A police officer in Oklahoma recently tasered an 86-year-old disabled grandma in her bed and stepped on her oxygen hose until she couldn’t breathe because they considered her to be a “threat”.

#47) In early 2009, U.S. net national savings as a percentage of GDP went negative for the first time since 1952, and it has continued its downward trend since then.

#46) Corexit 9500 is so incredibly toxic that the UK’s Marine Management Organization has completely banned it, so if there was a major oil spill in the North Sea, BP would not be able to use it.  And yet BP has dumped over a million gallons of dispersants such as Corexit 9500 into the Gulf of Mexico.

#45) For the first time in U.S. history, more than 40 million Americans are on food stamps, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture projects that number will go up to 43 million Americans in 2011.

#44) It has come out that one employee used a Federal Emergency Management Agency credit card to buy $4,318 in “Happy Birthday” gift cards.  Two other FEMA officials charged the cost of 360 golf umbrellas ($9,000) to the taxpayers.

#43) Researchers at the State University of New York at Buffalo received $389,000 from the U.S. government to pay 100 residents of Buffalo $45 each to record how much malt liquor they drink and how much pot they smoke each day.

#42) The average duration of unemployment in the United States has risen to an all-time high.

#41) The bottom 40 percent of all income earners in the United States now collectively own less than 1 percent of the nation’s wealth.

#40) In the U.S., the average federal worker now earns about twice as much as the average worker in the private sector.

#39) Back in 1950 each retiree’s Social Security benefit was paid for by 16 workers.  Today, each retiree’s Social Security benefit is paid for by approximately 3.3 workers.  By 2025 it is projected that there will be approximately two workers for each retiree.

#38) According to a U.S. Treasury Department report to Congress, the U.S. national debt will top $13.6 trillion this year and climb to an estimated $19.6 trillion by 2015.

#37) The federal government actually has the gall to ask for online donations that will supposedly go towards paying off the national debt.

#36) The Cactus Bug Project at the University Of Florida was allocated $325,394 in economic stimulus funds to study the mating decisions of cactus bugs.

#35) A dinner cruise company in Chicago got nearly $1 million in economic stimulus funds to combat terrorism.

#34) It is being reported that a 6-year-old girl from Ohio is on the “no fly” list maintained by U.S. Homeland Security.

#29) In May, sales of new homes in the United States dropped to the lowest level ever recorded.

#28) In 1950, the ratio of the average executive’s paycheck to the average worker’s paycheck was about 30 to 1.  Since the year 2000, that ratio has ranged between 300 to 500 to one.

#26) The U.S. government has declared some parts of Arizona off limits to U.S. citizens because of the threat of violence from Mexican drug smugglers.

#25) According to the credit card repayment calculator, if you owe $6000 on a credit card with a 20 percent interest rate and only pay the minimum payment each time, it will take you 54 years to pay off that credit card.  During those 54 years you will pay $26,168 in interest rate charges in addition to the $6000 in principal that you are required to pay back.

“The “land of the free and the home of the brave” has been transformed into a socialized Big Brother nanny state that is oozing with corruption and has accumulated the biggest mountain of debt in the history of the world.”

And with sorrow, that is why I left ten years ago.

  • freddybobs68k

An interesting and worrying selection as usual.

Not sure how abortion makes it twice into the list, and hits number 1 as a sign of the ‘state of the nation’. It’s also unfortunate that you’ve decided to label it as ‘murder’.

The implication being that if there was no abortion things would be significantly better. Unfortunately the real world doesn’t work that way – the ability to have abortion has been shown to reduce the amount of crime (theres a section on it in the book freakonomics). Not a hugely surprising result – in that people having babies they don’t want are unlikely to make great parents.

I’m not saying abortion is some great thing – it is not, but it’s not the ‘supreme evil’ you seem to be pushing here.

I personally believe that abortion is an option that must be available within reasonable restrictions. You can argue what ‘reasonable restrictions’ are – but saying it is always wrong in every situation leads to a wide range of inevitable suffering.

I also believe dogma really is a big part of our problems – because it gets in the way of people actually thinking.

  • Mr Carpenter

The thing is, freddybob… if you actually understood who God is, and realized in your heart that when he says not to murder, he means it – and that human beings exist inside their mothers, not just “a bunch of cells” – then you’d realize that the real world HAS worked that way. Abortion WAS illegal – and rightly so – for most of the history of these United States, and virtually all other modern nations until the 1960’s.

If you knew the history of Ms. Sanger, who believed in Eugenics and abortion (in order to GET RID of “undesirables” such as people of the wrong color or nationality), you’d realize that abortion is in fact, no better at all than the genocide performed by the Stalinists and Nazis last century.

  • justamom

Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.

    John Adams

  • Christine Golden

Nothing makes me more angry that 2 of the topics in this article! ABORTION AND GAY RIGHTS

  • Max

Isn’t this supposed to be a website about economics? What do abortion and gay rights have to do with that?

I would like to point out that the economies we compete against, like ones in Europe and Asia, have no problems with abortion (in the case of Europe and Asia), and gay rights (Europe).

Part of the problem with this country is that the focus is always on things that don’t matter, like whether a woman can have an abortion or whether gay people can have rights. While our population wastes time on these mundane and pointless issues, our elites, with the connivance of the rest of the world, are looting this country and in the process, eviscerating our constitution and the liberty that made it possible.

Let’s focus on the economy and leave the social issues where they belong, with the tin foil hat brigade.

  • Max

    In response to JustaMom/John Adams:

The Constitution of this country was written by men who for the most part were not particularly religious, although they respected the right of their countrymen to practice whatever religion or belief system they saw fit, so long as the practice of one’s belief system did not interfere with the right of another person to practice theirs.

Morality has nothing to do with this. It is common sense and maintains the peace between people. Also, having people with differing beliefs creates a more vibrant and intellectually potent society.

In sum, the Constitution is political contract that binds our polity together. It is not a religious or moral document, nor was it ever intended to be.

The Constitution of the United States is one of the finest examples of rational thinking that was a byproduct of the Enlightenment, in particularly, the Scottish Enlightenment. Any attempt on the part of the moralizing religious nut cases to claim the Constitution is an act of God or a moral and/or religious document is plainly, a lie.

  • freddybobs68k

    @ Mr Carpenter

“he says not to murder, he means it”

And yet we spend more money on the military than any nation on earth. We are embroiled right now in two wars (arguably more) that have caused hundreds of thousands of deaths. Thousands of Americans are dead. Thousands more injured.

I hope you were and are vocally against this and all wars, based on your murder observation.

Presumably you are up in arms over the whole crusades thing.

    “a bunch of cells”

The zygote is _literally_ a cell. By definition. How many cell constitutes ‘a bunch’ I don’t know – but its more than one. Therefore by definition is true at the point of conception.

You need a better argument than that. If your argument is ‘it’s in the bible’ – then you’ll have to point me to the section that talks about cells, and zygotes and the such like.

I don’t suppose you give much thought to walking on an ant. Or having a nice juicy hamburger. So at best you are selective.

Or do you endlessly fret about nurturing the billions of cells you lose when you lose a single drop of blood on a paper cut? I’m guessing not.

  • TK

    @Christine Golden,

There are many God Fearing men and woman who will be praying that the Holy Spirit will convict your heart and bring you to a point of repentance. Without repentance and faith in Jesus Christ, I and many others are afraid that you will not like where you spend eternity.

I agree with this blog, many of the reasons that we are in this situation is because of our immorality. Very few people fear God. Very few people realize that their sin is wrong in the eyes of a Holy God.

  • Mr Carpenter

Christine, I’m sorry that you feel as if you have to shout to be heard, but you’re dead wrong.

If somehow it could be absolutely known that a fetus is going to be homosexual, as a real Christian, it would make no difference to me in relation to abortion!

How about this for a “novel” idea? People take the responsibility for their actions and actually keep their zippers up until they get into a properly sanctioned, legal marriage with an individual of the opposite sex, and actually use birth control (NOT abortion) to restrain the number of children down to whatever their desire is for family size?

If I can do it, anyone can. And I’m nobody “special”.

As for homosexuals, why do homosexuals think they are so special that THEIR sins should be ignored? There are tens of thousands of sins, most of which can be described in a few concepts, or in a short sentence; thinking only of oneself instead of others.

Putting a male organ into a male anus is not in accordance with natural law, end of story, period, end sentence. It doesn’t happen in nature, except in mankind – which is uniquely blessed with many things and cursed with sin.

I don’t really care what two homosexual men care to do, I just don’t like the idea of them trying to force their perversions onto others, thereby corrupting people both adult and children to follow in their deadly footsteps. Because, make no mistake about it; homosexuality is deadly. Homosexuals live far less long than NORMAL men and women, on average; it’s fact, you cannot deny it.

    Look it up.

  • Mr Carpenter

Well, freddybob, I told you that wouldn’t understand. And you didn’t. You cling to only what goes on between your ears, instead of listening to what the creator of the universe would tell you. Like the majority of the human race, sadly.

Do you suppose a few pounds of brain cells can fathom the intent of the creator of the universe? Not without some help – given by that creator in His inspired word. Which is one way of describing Christian faith. It’s a gift (or to you non-Christians, foolishness).

The proper translation of God’s word says do not murder. It doesn’t say do not kill. I’m hopefull you can perceive the difference.

I can tease you now by asking you whether, if you happen to be walking along the street and were suddenly finding yourself to be confronted by a drug-crazed robber with a knife, and I happened to have a pistol in my pocket and ran over to defend your life from a degenerate potential murderer (of YOU), that you’d say “oh stop, don’t kill him; that’d be wrong”?

    I’m just curious.

But yes, actually, I do loathe war and violence. But I’m also grown up enough to realize that sometimes one has to use harsh measures to retain one’s rights and life, whether it be personal or national.

  • lostinmissouri

Exactly! Great quote from a founding Father.
Totally explains what happened to our Country.

One question: All you champions of human rights,
How come the unborn has no rights? How many of those aborted, would have chosen abortion?

Color it any way you want, but IMHO, this country lost it way, when we started killing our babies.

  • Mr Carpenter

Max, sorry but you’re dead wrong, too! The Constitution of the United States was written by men who were either Christians through and through, or were very well steeped in the culture shaped by Christian values.

It’s historical fact. I know it’s uncomfortable for atheists and agnostics, but if you don’t like it, I suppose you could band together and buy some Greek islands and make a nation of your own – I hear Greece is forced to put some up for sale…

What is little realized that a coup did take place in 1788.

President Washington was NOT the first President; there were 14 before him. The first President of the Congress was one Peyton Randolph, a distant cousin of Thomas Jefferson, and a Lutheran.

Interestingly, despite the fact that 1/8 of the US population is Lutheran, NO Presidents have been Lutheran since Peyton Randolph (who sadly didn’t live to see 1776).

Also interestingly, it is forbidden for Lutherans to become Masons, which may explain a lot….

justamom, your quote is dead on and also explains a lot.

  • freddybobs68k

    @ Mr Carpenter

“People take the responsibility for their actions”

Absolutely. But people sometimes make mistakes. Perhaps you have made a mistake in your life? If so you know how that goes.

I absolutely agree with your point about contraception. That said it is not 100% effective – although close.

I would also point out that the Roman Catholic church says its a sin to use a condom. So using or not using a birth control isn’t a question of faith. Unless you believe Roman Catholics do not believe in God.

“why do homosexuals think they are so special that THEIR sins should be ignored”

Because they don’t think that way. They don’t believe its a sin. Much like apparently you don’t believe birth control is a sin.

So what to make of this? If you approach the world dogmatically – the world will hit back with reality. Presumably that’s the way God thought it best.

  • freddybobs68k

    @ Max

You are a voice of clarity and sanity and I thank you for it.

  • sharonsj

If you want to know what kind of country this would be if zealots had their way about abortion and homosexuals, then take a look at any Muslim country where abortion is not allowed and gays are killed. You would not be allowed to have a say in how to live your life because the bible police would beat (or kill) you if you were not dressed properly, if you played music, if you were seen in the company of the opposite sex, if you wanted to go to school, if you insulted your religion, if you were friends with people of other religions, and especially if you thought justice and the law should be applied equally.

Finally, there is nothing in the bible about abortion or gay marriage. I don’t think it even talks about gay sex. It talks about Sodom and Gomorrah as places where sexuality is flaunted, because God wanted people to behave more modestly. And lastly, I really don’t give a crap what the bible says anyway, and I give even less of a crap about people who want to push their version of religion on me.

None of this has anything to do with the economy and the state of the country. No politician’s stance for or against abortion and gay marriage will affect whether or not I freeze to death this winter because I can’t pay my electric bill. I’m tired of completely stupid people getting distracted from real problems by religious nonsense.

    Morality is the common theme
What value do you put on Life?
Do you believe everyone has a right to life?
Is there some people that are more valuable than others?
Does some have the right to take from you and give to others?
Does someone have the right to deny you your right to self/family protection? (while they can protect there self/family)
    There is no black/white/brown left/right Rep/Dems
    African-Americans, Hispanic-Americans, Irish-Americans, Polish-Americans, German-Americans
Only Americans and Statists that would take away our Wealth and Freedom!
And would have us fight amongst our Self’s
Wake Up! We are slowly being pitted against each other
    Take-Back American “We The People”
We are a Great Nation, Fight The Good Fight
Check out what our History Is
Gun control, Abortion, Slavery why? and
what party was the Root Cause.
And now we have Social Justice, Global warming and VAT
what is the Real Reason for this!
    Think, check the facts
    And “Don’t Tread on me”
    Happy “Indepence Day”

    Dear Max,

John Adams had a son who said:

The highest glory of the American Revolution was this: it connected in one indissoluble bond the principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity.

    John Quincy Adams

  • Mr. Ecks

Ah, economics… It’s all fun and games until the Libertarians try to play pseudo-intellectuals… 🙂

  • Pam

If you know your Bible this should not be a surprise just heartbreaking. If you don’t know your Bible then get one and start reading it. Start with Genesis and see how it all ends in Revelation.

  • Chris

All of you folks arguing about gays and abortions are falling into the trap – the very trap that the elite want you to fall into. You’re arguing about those topics and focusing on very trivial matters; all the while, you’re distracted from the massive redistribution of wealth (THEFT) that has been occurring since foreign bankers took control of our country through the Federal Reserve Act of 1913.

The easiest way to enslave people and steal from them is to distract them with trivial shit like abortion and gay rights. Instead of trying to understand the pyramid scheme that is our monetary system, and how debt has removed our freedoms, you’re all worried about fetuses and fags!

It would be really nice if this country was so great that the only issues were abortion and gays. But, until we wrestle control of our country away from the Bank of England, we’re being completely stupid and irresponsible debating **** like abortion and gays.

  • Joe in JT

What happened to America? What’s happening to our food prices.

I went to the supermarket today to buy some chicken and burgers for the 4th of July. While shopping I noticed the prices of food had gone way way up. Like almost overnight.

Bacon was 6.49 and another one was 8.59, for a pound of bacon?? Geeze. The bread was outragous, like 3.49 for eight hamburger buns. Beer, which I like, has gone through the roof. I saw a price on the cheap beer Milwakee’s Best (or worst) 16.99 !! I remember 5 years ago buying the same 30 pack for $9.99 . All we need now is for our stupid gubmint to attack Iran and watch prices at the pump go to 8 bucks a gallon. Then I’ll just sit at home and eat white rice and chicken boullion, and home made bread.

  • Joe in JT

I like reading your comments I really do. It’s entertaining more than the article. But I’ve learned one thing over the years. When the illuminatti want the sheeple to just bandy back and forth and get no where they bring up a couple of topics. First is abortion, second is gay rights.

On the list of importance these two rank last and extra last. But it gets peoples blood pressure up and makes them feel like they are accomplishing something through argument.

All you people who are so interested in abortion and gay rights did you know that the Senate killed the Ron Paul bill to Audit the FED ??? Nuff said.

  • Wessington

I agree with #3 on the list that no one should pledge allegiance to ANY flag. We should, however, pledge our allegiance to the CONSTITUTION of the United States of America. Governments can change and become useless (as ours is today), but the flag remains the same. Pledging allegiance to a flag is saying you support the country no matter what (even if it becomes communist or fascist). But, that’s NOT what the founding fathers expected. It is the RULE OF LAW that they wanted the citizens to respect. Apparently, that respect has completely disappeared from the minds of most American leaders.

The USA is in a deep coma, and a doubt that it can recover.

  • Jono

Now In my opinion, nothing wrong with gay marriage, they have every right to be as miserable as all the straight people in the world. Secondly, abortion is wrong, dont have sex if you dont want to get pregnant, as simple as that. But no, there are plenty of people who use abortions as a form of birth control and stupid women try to justify this kiddy killing shit as ‘womens rights’. And how are you gonna explain yourself to your child if you do decide to let one live? Or are ya just going to lie and say ‘you were mommys first’?

  • Mark Lyell

Frightening times we live in! The next great depression is just around the corner waiting to make its big debut, such are the supercycles of life thanks to human nature.

  • I’m calling bull**** on the 50 million abortions since ’73.

Nothing has changed-at all-from Nero to now. Humans are still vile beings doing vile things. Nothing to see here.

TK says, “I and many others are afraid that you will not like where you spend eternity.”

TK, what if eternity is not in the future. What if this moment right now, is eternity?

Mr. Carpenter says, “I just don’t like the idea of [homosexual men] trying to force their perversions onto others, thereby corrupting people both adult and children to follow in their deadly footsteps.”

All right, Mr. C, let’s say a man ‘puts his organ into a male anus’ (and here I am quoting your terminology), and let’s say the two men involved, love the feelings that they enjoy, and they love the cameraderie, and also the sweaty muscular workout, and let’s also say that maybe they fall in love over it, and maybe they don’t! And let’s say, they also go so far as to publicly assert, that they refuse to accept that any state or church has any right to punish them for enjoying what they both enjoy.

How are those men forcing anything, on anyone else?

    (Here’s a clue: They’re not!)

But you (in contrast) have a nasty stew of bad mental hygiene which you call ‘Christianity’ — which you hilariously blame God for! — and which is in fact one of the two or three most injurious of all STDs (socially transimitted diseases) — and you have every intention of infecting as many people as you possibly can. In your thinking that’s called ‘evangelism’.

You yourself are the one who’s forcing, or rather, trying to force, their own perversion (namely, a nasty false religion) onto others. I offer real thanks to the real divinity, because your attempt at spreading these beliefs of yours (which are anti-sex, anti-pleasure, anti-queer, anti-feminine, anti-freedom, anti-nature, anti-humanity, anti-knowledge, anti-experience) have much less chance of confusing people now, than they did back in the Dark Ages.

You say, “Putting a male organ into a male anus is not in accordance with natural law . . . . It doesn’t happen in nature, except in mankind.”

In factual reality, Mr. C, that dreaded ‘it’ that you’re referring to is happening day-in-day-out, all over nature! Male-male sexuality occurs in numberless species, and males ‘putting their organs into male anuses’ is no rarity whatsoever. If you’re honest enough to wonder if you just might be wrong about this, you can easily prove to yourself that you ARE wrong about it by exploring the extraordinary book by Bruce Bagemilh . . . but I warn you, it has two words right on the cover that will be unto you, and unto all your people, as garlic unto a vampire. It’s called “Biological Exuberance: Animal Homosexuality and Natural Diversity” (and the garlic words are, of course, that “H” word, and that “D” word).

I sincerely hope that you check out that book, and I sincerely hope that you actually enjoy having your cherry busted on this factual issue, Mr. C.

  • …And the book of Apocalypse page turns to the next chapter.

You said, “I would also point out that the Roman Catholic church says its a sin to use a condom. So using or not using a birth control isn’t a question of faith. Unless you believe Roman Catholics do not believe in God.”

Do you know what the Bible says in relation to what the Catholic Church says? If so, you’d already know they’ve instituted man-made traditions that don’t always line up scripturally.

  • Kevin

well researched believable and saddening list, i hate how you have to bring your religious nonsense into it about abortion. keep it neutral and keep your asinine religious beliefs out of this informative article. “god has no place within these walls just like facts have no place within organized religion”

  • Rampaging Manatee

Good article, but you lost me on #1. If there were actual baby murders going on, the police would have investigated. The generally accepted terminology would be ‘there were 50 million abortions…’

Our country needs a spiritual renewal – the vast majority of American citizens seeking in earnest to live the way God wants them to live – then many of our problems will dry up and we will heal as a nation. If no spiritual renewal takes place, then before long – no freedom, no prosperity. It’s that simple!

  • Denber Nankey

    50 M? prove it.

…and NO PROB with the wholesale “collateral damage” murder of a MILLION INNOCENTS in just a decade? Yes, babies and mommas, large scale.

You can shove that kind of religion. Your true colors are showing. Hypocrite!

  • Craig

We need leadership from men and women who will bring back faith into our society, allow the pledge of allegiance, prayer in school and family unity.

  • John

I agree with most on the list, however what strikes me is the outrage against the supposed nanny state coddling the unemployed and attempting to supply the populace with adequate healthcare and a social safety net. While it is fraud for citizens to embezzle or commit fraud in the thousands there does not seem to be a consistent moral rage against the “too big to fail” corporations and Wall Street fat cats stealing trillions from the US taxpayer and future generations. We most often have a self-hatred for the common citizen in an economic dilemma and condemn government help to insure basic survival while ironically maintaining the fervor against abortion. Who will feed these unwanted children? Are the lives of the parents also precious? Pro-life must encompass the adults who parent these children as well. It is a moral abomination to condemn both parent and child to death by starvation. I think most of the condemnation here is taking aim at the low hanging fruit. The true bounty of our fascist system grows at the top of the tree and is much harder to bring down. Issues such as gay marriage are just red herrings to divide and conquer the resistance. We must all hang together or we will surely hang separately.

The 51st fact to make you wonder what happened to America is the abysmal state of rationality and education among the public, and the accompanying low level of civility.

  • Mike

One billion abortions worldwide call for Divine Justice.

Get ready world you are about to be rocked.

You have played god long enough. It is not for you people to decide who is allowed to be born. That is God’s decision. He sends life as a gift. The devil wants to destroy God’s gifts, especially the unborn.

  • Jeff

The top is generally greedy, corrupt and out for themselves. The bottom is generally corrupt, immoral and out for themselves, and those that are not have no resources to make a positive impact on anything.

The current administration is dispensing rapidly with the middle class that is/was generally the moral center for the country. It is not so hard to imagine WHY these changes are happening.

For those that are *shocked* and *angered* that abortion and gay rights are on the list, you have either lived in a bubble of like minded individuals most of your lives or are fairly young.

In America it was not so long ago that abortion was not known as a a woman’s right to choose, but as murder.

Even more recently than the abortion issue, gays (dare I say the term at one point not so long ago was ‘fags’), lesbians, transgenders – shall I say ‘kept that fact in the closet’ as American society did not approve nor like the topics nor the behavior. That’s why it was called ‘coming out of the closet’ when some big celebrity in the ’90’s made some announcement they were ‘gay’.

For what is still a majority of the country these are indeed facts that make us wonder what happened to America. The fact is these are moral issues to many. And they still hold to the same morality that their parents, grandparents, great grandparents, great great grandparents and their ancestors that came before them all held to.

If you are ‘shocked’, ‘amazed’ or even ‘angered’ it’s probably because you don’t hold the same morals as the majority of americans do/did or perhaps you don’t hold yourself to any morals. For many of you, you aren’t holding to the same morals your ancestors held either. But it’s ok the country and the world are moving towards you’re more ‘enlightened’ position. Don’t get your panties/jock straps in tight wad over it.

Ok, this conversation is falling on a tangent not expected when I first began reading it. You know, I found George Carlin to be extremely accurate when he did his riff on the 10 Commandments: In the end, Thou Shalt Not Steal.

If, since we’re on the subject, we’re all made in God’s image, with the power of Choice, and humanity is as it is…and, if, humanity chooses to do the things it has done and is still doing (waging wars for personal benefits, commandeering resources for personal profits, destroying cities and peoples with no thought to their feelings and independent lives), then humanity is truly made in God’s image, because God (as modern day Christians believe) comes from the Old Testament and was a horrific mass murdering genocide master.

I am not a Christian. I am not a Muslim; not a Buddhist, nor any other religion. And I am certainly not an Atheist because, despite popular belief, believing nothing is still a belief. I am a free-willer; I choose not to steal, to murder, to lie, to cheat. Because I trust in the belief that leading by example, and making a choice that was not influenced by centralized power in the form of government, religion, or social group, gives me the Power inherent in all humanity.

Wake up: You are all living lies; religions and governments are created with good intentions and rot over time; it’s called atrophy. It happens to everything, even your muscles if you are stuck in bed for too long. The intrinsic value of everything that was once so great is eroded and eradicated as time passes and the original thinkers die off, leaving the corrupting influences (people who CHOOSE to cheat, lie, steal, and murder) as the tenders of it. Evil (moralistically, evil is “the personification of antipodean thought” and is, thus, perspective based) is “the lack of a proper respect for ALL of the creatures of God; If made in God’s image, they are basically God him/her/itself. Grow up and evolve, stop picking and choosing what is and isn’t; It ALL is. And no religion, government, or social group will ever change that fact.

  • Toe

And, for those who will debate or argue (it’s usually an argument) the statement I made above, keep this in mind: With many years of introspective thought, external study, and millions of questions with an OPEN MIND (another gift from “God”), you will understand my perspective. I’ve lived the religious life, the closed-box life, the life where you question nothing and take everything for granted. And let me say this: Being freer, more knowledgeable, more capable of understanding and combating the truly evil influences that surround us makes me far more acceptable a being in person than anyone I’ve met who uses “other” in their conversations.

We’re all human; we’ve all made mistakes; we’re all capable of feeding the person we pass on the street sleeping in a box. We’re all capable of murdering them, or passing them by. And do you know what is worse? Passing them by, for that is the antipode to LOVE. We’re here to learn and experience LOVE. No, I’m not a damn hippy; I don’t do drugs and cavort naked to Jimmy Hendrix…

By passing the needy by, you have directly sidestepped one of Jesus’ most important teachings: That EMPATHY and LOVE of your brother is more important than thyself, and that INDIFFERENCE is the true evil. (paraphrased)

    Chew on that.

  • de Malfosse

70 years of war have ruined the nation. It is bankrupt in all conceivable spheres.

  • Max

    To the irrational:

God (whichever variety you believe in) is not going to solve the problems of the United States or its people. We are. God only helps those who help themselves.

Focusing on absurd issues like abortion, gay rights, and whether this country is a Christian nation distracts from the real problems, most of which are political and economic in nature.

Furthermore, the retreat of a significant segment of our population (thankfully still a minority) into the confines of fundamentalist religion (usually of a Christian variant), is just as dangerous as the Islamic fundamentalism we are fighting around the world. The purpose of an enlightened nation is to crush these forces of darkness, intolerance, and ignorance wherever they may be found, at home or abroad. In the final analysis, there is more in common between our Christian fundamentalists and folks like the Taliban (and their many friends) than anyone is willing to admit or consider.

This nation’s founding fathers had some men of faith, no denying it. Yet, unlike the intolerant nutcases of today, they did not seek to impose their beliefs on others — on the contrary, they created a Constitution where people could believe in whatever God they wanted to so long as it does not interfere with the right of a fellow citizen to believe something completely different.

The sooner people come to terms with the First Amendment of our Constitution, the better off we all will be.

Finally, if you don’t like abortion, don’t have one. If you don’t like gays, live in a neighborhood without gay people. And if you want to be a Christian, fantastic, be Christian. However, don’t use our Constitution and our government to impose those beliefs on all of us, because frankly, its un-American and unbecoming of a nation that has struggled for centuries to bring tolerance and justice not only to its own citizens, but to people all over the world.

  • Max

    Final point:

Our nation is about tolerance, justice, and the rule of law above that of men.

No Elmer Gantry, Sarah Palin, Joel Osteen, Dick Cheney, or any of their followers, worshipers, or minions, can convince me or any other sane or thoughtful person to the contrary.

Remember, God only helps those who help themselves. Think really hard about that and your rational self-interest before bleating like sheep in a misguided flock.

The debates here about ABORTION and HOMOSEXUAL “Rights” only demonstrate the point of the article . . . this country is gone. You can’t expect a tree to bear fruit if you cut it off from its life-giving roots.

For those who think these issues don’t have anything to do with economics:

ABORTION: Population Growth = Economic Growth; Population Decline = Economic Collapse. Google: “Demographic Winter” “Population Bomb”

HOMOSEXUAL RIGHTS: Historically, when the Natural Family is at the center of culture and policy, civilization flourishes. When Homosexual Rights become the focus, it is a key indicator of the collapse of the civilization. Read Carle Zimmerman’s Family and Civilization.

If all people actually followed the ten commandments the world would be a much better place. It is greed and self indulgent behavior that has caused so many social problems and wreaked havoc on family budgets. Ditto for the government’s uncontrolled budget. Just think if people did not have children until they were married. If they stay married. If one of them stayed home and raised those children. Just think of all of the social programs that could be eliminated. We have to stop depending on the government to solve our problems and turn back to God, before it is too late.

The only light which the so-called “enlightened” crowd of today is following is a black light. There is without any uncertainty a connection between our own immorality and the state of our world and society. History has shown that every great civilization of the past has fallen apart from within through moral and spiritual decay prior to any great defeat from external forces. Why should the American/Western empire of today be any different?

There are connections between our collective and individual actions which most of us with our puny minds are simply not capable of seeing. Almost 50 years ago, in the 1960’s, Pope Paul VI described how the use of artificial birth control would lead ultimately to increased promiscuity, marital breakdown, and abortion. He predicted that the effects on society as a whole would be disastrous simply from women using the pill and men wearing condoms. The enlightened, free-love crowd of the day scoffed at this message. We continue to ignore his warnings even though what Pope Paul VI was proclaiming was simply God’s will as defined in His Natural Law. I doubt anyone could reasonably muster an argument proving these prognostications from the 1960’s are in error; unfortunately, they are only too true.

If we want to get our economy on track, we need to start behaving in ways that are aligned with Natural Law. Anything else is unnatural and bound to put us in conflict with the power that created our universe in the first place. Most people posting here understand this connection at some level even though we may have trouble articulating it for those who continue to believe they can behave in any manner they like without any social consequence.

  • GerryL

Many of the comments here asks why babies killed (abortion) is mentioned 2x and even in the no.1 list. The answer is because it is. Babies removed from a mothers womb, whatever term the mother is (and more in even late term where limbs of the babies are found) after abortion is indeed murder. The fact that the responses shown here and how the american people simply turn their eyes away from the simple truth is proof where America is and is headed. Learn the facts before you express your hate driven responses. Your minds are fixed of the twisted lies and plainly refuses to see the truth. If a nation kills their own, then yes, what in the world has happened to America?

A lot of people do not realize that the government uses distraction to do their corrupt and illegal actions. They pit Black and White against each other so we are more involved with anger with each other than the government stealing our welfare to give to big corporations. Which government that allows credit card companies to charge 30+% is looking out for the people. Which government that gives huge bail outs to banks that hoard it and let the people lose jobs, houses and etc is looking out for the people. I could recite many actions our Supposed government does that cheats the very people that it is supposed to represent. How can you choose a president from two clubs that are dedicated to taking away the american way of life when you don’t have other choices. And the news media is the whore of the government if something important is going to happen it is not covered instead we read about a runaway bride or something like that. If you read the News from around the world you get a much different picture of what is going on instead of the government fed propaganda that our news media’s feed us. My final words are the U.S. goverment is not America… WE ARE

The bottom line is, was, and ALWAYS will be, that homosexuality/abortion, has played a MAJOR role in bringing this country down. And I couldn’t care less who agrees or disagrees with me. The U.S. has lost it’s MORAL COMPASS, and is now headed to disasters that many of us cannot comprehend in our wildest imagination. Alexis DeTocqueville, when visiting this country many years ago said-“America is great because America is good. When America ceases to be good, it will cease to be great.” Well, here we are.

The war against Poverty is one of those wars that are meant not to ever be won. In truth, the people at the very top love people to be poor. They can buy them off with little favors so they can come and prey on the people who are immediately above. This class warfare is the cornerstone of control. It all boils down to the fact that the money supply is controlled by centralized institutions.

Someone asked what abortion has to do with economics….here is part of the answer….

#39) Back in 1950 each retiree’s Social Security benefit was paid for by 16 workers. Today, each retiree’s Social Security benefit is paid for by approximately 3.3 workers. By 2025 it is projected that there will be approximately two workers for each retiree.

  • Critical Thinker

    Abortion points requiring clarification:

    1) Abortion is not a “right”. It is a privilege created by a majority of Supreme Court justices. As a privilege, it can be removed by them in any convenient case, if they so wish.

    2) The privilege of abortion was created as a means to facilitate population control by the elites.

    3) Human life begins at conception. That is the moment all information necessary to the person’s creation and development is first present in the organism.

    4) While intentional abortion is not legally “murder”, it is intentional homicide, and so intrinsically evil.

    5) Elites consider themselves inherently superior to other humans, whom they regard as a great herd of animals to be exploited.

    6) By supporting legal abortion, and failing to recognize that it is a great evil, you are selling yourself into slavery.

  • Our nation and world is reaping a lot of what it has sown. Many women regret their abortions and have become prolife, too many black babies have been aborted, and statistically gay men are known to die at a much younger age than heterosexuals. And many children are orphaned because their parents died of AIDS.
For every abortion that occurs, God-given destinies are altered and sad things occur. And those who choose abstinence for singles, chastity (purity of mind and heart), and good morals reap good things.
Some call good evil and evil good. Some are in denial of how far our world has really gone with moral corruption. Why be so close minded about what the Bible says? If you put those teachings into action, it works.

  • Never read such offencive language in Canada which were given in comments here on an article which was telling a truth.

Sometimes ago I even wished to move to the States for the open religious atmosphere it had. Now it is so sad that they have lost to be an example to the world and are persueded to follow the rest of other countries mainly the Western ones.

If the U.S. is a socialist nation then why does a small percentage of the populace own the vast majority of the wealth and why doesn’t the U.S. have real socialized medicine? Abortion could never have been legalized had we not given women the right to vote. When we gave women the right to vote, we significantly changed the makeup of the electorate — for the worse.

Here is a link to a Harvard study that shows how women’s sufferage changed the size and scope of government.

“Suffrage coincided with immediate increases in state government expenditures and revenue, and these effects continued growing as more women took advantage of the franchise. Similar changes occurred at the federal level as female suffrage led to more liberal voting records for the state’s U.S. House and Senate delegations.”

  • Ronin

People that defend abortion should have been killed in their mother’s womb. That would be sweet poetic justice. I mean people that crave the blood of babies and go into some kind of angry religious convulsion when a baby is NOT turned into chunky hamburger meat should be removed from civilized society.

  • Christians on the modern Pill, Patch or other injectibles are committing abortion too! Check out the new definition of pregnancy brought to us in cooperation of Planned Parenthood, the AMA, and Big Pharma: Pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg successfully implants in the uterine wall. We all know that pregnancy exists at fertilization…however, they want to keep selling their baby poison. Pope Paul VI warned that abortion would come if we accepted the birthcontrol. Every thinking person owes it to themselves to check out what you are taking to avoid having children. Might I suggest you go to the Physician Desk Reference on these birth control items and see for yourself that they prevent the baby from implanting in the uterus, causing an early abortion?! And stop pointing the finger exclusively at the unbelievers until we can walk the walk ourselves and be open to life, get off the porn, and the like.

PS. The Catholic Church and all her beliefs are indeed biblical. I invite my Protestant brother to educate himself first on what we believe…here it is from the source:

Those of you who don’t understand the implications of gay marriage and abortion may never understand that evil is the cause of a nation’s collapse. The actual number of abortions is over 51 million since 1973. Many of these people, had they been spared execution, would be taxpayers now, alleviating much of the burden mentioned in this article. But here’s the bottom line for you liberals:

“The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency.

It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America . Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president.”

  • Kathy

Moral decline is never a good thing for any one or country. The MURDER of the unborn is never acceptable, or justifiable. Abortion IS MURDER.

Thank you Michael, for recognizing that that Abortion is the worst thing that has ever happened in our once great nation.

Those of you that reject God, I will pray for you. Remember, we are just pilgrims on this earth, this is such a short life compared to where we will spend an eternity. Try to think about where you really want to spend your eternity.

Rejecting God always leads to the loss of morals- because living outside of God’s friendship there aren’t any moral boundaries that one must live up to. Living in the grace of God always means MORE freedom and joy because with a standard of moral living- God blesses us many, many ways.

I really feel sorry for those of you that don’t live in God’s presence. For those of you that reject God’s love. You sound like very hurt, confused people- and very, very ANGRY . And perhaps with good reason. God is the Divine Physician- perhaps if you opened your hearts to HIS love and MERCY- you would find it. No one with a desire heart to find God would ever be rejected by him. We are all God’s children created by HIM and HE LOVE US!

Many of you try to discount the horrors of Abortion or say that it is a good thing. You really need to look at an abortion. Please visit Father Frank Pavone’s website on click on the horrific pictures and then try to justify this horrific holocaust. Many of you are seriously in major denial, and you really should try to take the blinders off- the devil has really hoodwinked you into believing that abortion is okay. IT IS NEVER OKAY!!!!!!!!!!!

I don’t know why there are homosexuals versus heterosexuals- I can’t answer that. But living a life of morals and virtues are expected of them too. They are not exempt. Living a celibate life is possible and many do just that. Being heterosexual and living in sin with one of the opposite sex is also sinful. Being married is a wonderful vocation in life that brings many blessings like children.

Homosexuals cannot produce children( a red flag for even simple minds) and mating with your own sex is sinful and disgusting. It is not okay to legalize homosexual marriage. We are a Judeo- Christian nation and we don’t put value on this. And it is not okay!

The founders of our country were Christian, had morals and a strong belief system that are country was founded on. There are still many moral people in our country who will not stand for this kind of moral depravity. We have many strong Christians who fight the good fight, and get down on their knees praying for this country.

The power of prayer is awesome- don’t ever discount it.

May the Blessed Mother wrap us all in her mantle and leads to a closer relationship with her SON!

    God Bless America!

In the early 1980’s, two separate Congressional sub-committees, composed of both Democrats and Republicans, held hearings in two separate years with the intent of determining when human life begins. The actual summary transcripts of the hearings are not always as easy to come by as they should be, but are available.

After hearing from dozens of experts in various medical and scientific fields, their conclusions were the same: Human life begins at conception. If that is in fact the case, and if we accept the premise of the Declaration of Independence (which, I recognize, many do not), that we are endowed with the inalienable Right to Life, then it should follow that we have an obligation to protect that Right the same as we would any other as granted in the Bill of Rights and elsewhere.

For those who will discount the Declaration as not being the law of the land, you might refer to the penumbra of the 9th and 10th amendments wherein rights not enumerated elsewhere are contained.

Taken in this context, the argument does not come down to a religious one alone, but to one based on the political foundations and core beliefs of the US.

Regarding the quote by John Adams put forth by JustaMom, I might refer to to a bevy of related quotes by many founders, early presidents, and justices, at this page:

That site has an interesting and potentially persuasive take on the US issue of Separation of Church and State, though, once again, there will be those who will not agree, choosing, instead, to follow the lead of others who continue to quote from the errors of history, that they heard someone else tell them and taken out of context.

Arrrg, for #48, why do people keep referencing that couthousenews article? That isn’t the whole story, the lady had a knife and was trying to kill herself and threatened to kill others. Using the tazer was the safest thing to do and it minimized the risk of anyone being hurt.
I’m tired of all these articles trying to portray officers in a negative light and all the sheeple eat it up because they hate authority.

  • Anon

Why the hell are aborted embryos number 1? I mean really. I care way more about the inside job of 9/11 (shut up, they still let pearl harbour happen and you know it) than a few aborted balls of cytoplasmic goo.

Abortion is a right and will eventually be the most humane form of population control. In the meantime enjoy being sprayed with chemtrails and infected with lab viruses

  • Alex P.

You know, if you’re going to promote less government intervention in public and private life as a conservative, that also includes not trying to legislate morality and enforce one religious perspective onto others. The fact that abortion is 1 on this list, and even gays are mentioned, baffles me. I mean come on guys, there’s so much more that’s going on in America that’s doing more damage to our country. Can’t we all get along, regardless of differences, and try to fix America together?

  • Veritas Splendor

What has happened to the United States? Over the past 30 years, we have rejected God and His laws, and replaced them with a purely human secularism that has resulted in tens of millions of abortions, hedonism, unbridled lust, blasphemy and sacrilege. Until we recognize this mess for what it is – a chastisement/purification for our national sins – it will continue to its inexorable end.

  • AMiLibertine

I love how the author saves his neo-con BS for the #1 spot. All you who have had to do is just use the word abortion without the word murder and your ethos would have been great. Too bad. No one likes abortion but in case you haven’t noticed there are millions of unwanted kids in the world, who live awful lives of poverty. Maybe people need to get off there high-horse. You know God killed all first-born children once….if you believe that sort of thing.

    Morality Affects Our Economy
    by Mike Huckabee
Many of you saw the comments made by Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels last week when he said the next president “would have to call a truce on the so-called social issues” so he or she could focus on the fiscal problems facing the country.

As I’ve made clear, I really like Governor Daniels, and I consider him a friend and colleague, but his comments mirror those of the GOP establishment who view values voters dismissively as “single-minded.” The fact is that every value voter I know is truly committed to fiscal conservatism, but many fiscal conservatives and libertarians range from disinterest to contempt for social issues.

I learned a lot during 13 1/2 years as a Governor and Lieutenant Governor about why government gets big and taxes get higher and what causes and solves the issues of poverty and crime. I detailed a lot of that in my book “Do the Right Thing,” but here’s the simple truth: Poverty and crime are the direct results of broken families and broken values of responsibility, work, marriage, and respect of others. Prisons are overflowing and government “relief” programs get traction often because of the breakdown of our social structure. If we don’t respect the value of each individual life whether in the womb or the classroom or the living room, we devalue property and intangible qualities of life. It gets expensive.

I responded to Gov. Daniel’s comments with the following blog post on “ . . . the issue of life and traditional marriage are not bargaining chips nor or they political issues. They are moral issues. I didn’t get involved in politics just to lower taxes and deficit spending though I believe in both and have done it as a Governor. But I want to stay true to the basic premises of our civilization.” To see the entire post, click here.

Sadly, Gov. Daniels is not alone in his way of thinking and it’s not a new concept. During the last presidential election – many reporters, Republicans and Democrats suggested the same moratorium on morality. The political winds began to whisper of stopping the discussion on morality and starting the discussion on the “important issues.”

Let me be clear – MORALITY AND THE ECONOMY are inextricably linked.

    • The collapse of morality and ethical business practices preceded the collapse of Wall Street – unchecked greed caused the downfall;

    • A decrease in morality preceded an increase in the prison population – state budgets via taxes, increase every year to pay for prisons; and,

    • We don’t emphasize character in our public schools, and ignorance is expensive– a national high school drop out rate of 1 in 3 students produces poverty – crippling our economy in countless ways.

I’m not saying Wall Street, prisons and poverty are not the only influences on our economy – there are countless others – nor am I saying morality solves every economic crisis we face. But I am saying strong moral fiber would prevent many of our nation’s economic disasters.

Should we focus on the economy and the staggering and crippling debt? Absolutely! But I fear that talk of a “truce” means that we are making excuses for compromise on moral issues, and there is no need to separate economic issues from the social issues. We can and must focus on both.

Now is not the time to shift focus from moral issues we need to shift focus toward moral issues.

  • it’s up to us people to save this country from the corruption tht has bestwoed this once great country for our children.toremind these politicians they work for we the people of the united states of america not these bankers and to remind the bankers that our flag and constitution ain’t for sale we owe it to the ones that have fought and gave their lives so this country would not perish from the earth .god is on our side and he is who this place needs to get back to,ya’ll have a happy 4th of july god bless ya

  • QuoVadisAnima

P.S. The abortion numbers come from the Alan Guttmacher Institute – the research arm of Planned Parenthood & the numbers are generally accepted as under-reported because the abortionists have to pay taxes on what they report. Google it for yourself.

P.P.S. The healthiest foundational unit of society, and therefore also the economy, is the nuclear family. The govt therefore has a very vested interest in supporting & encouraging stable, healthy, heterosexual marriages.

Not only does it NOT have a vested interest in supporting homosexual relationships but such would actually increase its economic problems because homosexuality brings with it increased sexually transmitted diseases (we haven’t even tackled HIV & scientists are saying “the next HIV” is just waiting to happen).

And put aside the propaganda to look at the actual stats, condoms are NOT adequate protection against STD’s.

Children have substantially more negative outcomes when they come from a single parent home – why on earth would anyone believe that they will fare any better with two mommies or two daddies?

Families are fracturing at an increasingly alarming rate & there are people here dismissing all these things as nothing more than religious fanaticism.

ATTENTION SHALLOW MATERIALISTS: If the most basic functional unit of a society is dysfunctional, you will not be able to have economic prosperity.

  • i might sound radical but i want my child to grow up like we did in a free and open society please say a prayer of appreciation to all the men and women who serve our country today their fight for our constitution is a good one god bless u all

  • Mojogoober

The predicament we are in has many causes but no real solutions and consequently is just the way of life for here on out, so think about how to survive, not who to blame.

And all you scaredy-pants “god fearing” people can go hide in a closet.

  • Hg Wells

    Alex P.:

There is no such thing as not legislating morality. It’s an overused phrase that is false on its face, but isn’t recognized as such. When people say that morality should not be legislated, they mean morality with which they disagree. Legislated behavior, including criminal laws, are all based on morality of some sort.

All of you reading and commenting were once conceived in your mother’s fallopian tube and were implanted about 14 days later. Now…were you human persons at that time? Or elephants? Frogs? NO-your DNA was set for your life. Get a clue. Use your God-given brain to think and reason, instead of parroting what the public schools so-called education taught you. You were dumbed down not to think. Why do you believe that our nation is on the brink of extinction? Not because schools and colleges were interested in helping you discover truth? No-to indoctrinate you in anything but Truth. Killing the unborn and the aged solves nothing. The problem is not overpopulation, but unfair and unreasonable distribution of resources, selfishness (I want MINE and the rest of the world can go to H…) My body, my wants, my needs, my pleasure, my power. We have turned into a bunch of selfish brats of all ages, instead of realizing we are here to serve others. That’s how true happiness comes about, not through the absence of pain and suffering, but the satisfaction of living for the good of others. Anyone in favor of reducing population through killng, instead of self-control, please step to the head of the line1

  • Bryan

I wish I would have known this was a christian writer before reading the entire thing… this is America, not a ******* church. Separation of church and state anyone?

  • Eric

Most everyone posting on this has a valid point. My suggestion is to stop directing your hostilities at each other and instead direct them toward the source of the problem. Instead of nit picking some of the specific views of the writer, pay attention to the major points. Rather than bashing an article or a comment based on a difference of views, we should discuss a way to unify ourselves on what really matters. You might just learn something that way and accomplish something that you would solitarily fail at.
Unity is the key to success.

  • Something Wicked This Way Comes

I am deeply saddened by the comments on this blog. Really.

We have a hideous, horrible problem knocking at our door. And all you people can do is isolate others, bicker, quarrel, and take cheap shots.

If I were the problem, the predator, you people would make easy prey. Divide and conquer is the oldest war strategy ever used. It becomes very easy to divide and conquer the citizens of this country because they do it themselves. This problem is REAL. We are losing control of our country and our way of life. And you people are too busy quarreling, distracted, to see you are being swallowed up.

The answer is unity. Forget the differences. Our problem is much bigger than the differences. We are trying to rescue a nation not argue about what flavor of kool aid to drink.

  • Lenny Pike

Here’s one more fact: The U.S. Military is now being used to start unprovoked wars for a variety of evil reasons. Our service men and women are not fighting for our freedom, they are fighting for International Bankers, and the Industrial Military Complex for our enslavement. They are also fighting to protect Israel which should be protected. It’ just not necessary to destroy the United States, and turn the entire world into one big prison to do it.

  • xana

Regarding Social Security IT IS NOT AN ENTITLEMENT.

It is an investment forced upon workers (because of failure by employers to notify those workers it is voluntary).

Had individuals been allowed to invest that money it would have been put into the system and provided a MUCH better retirement.

In addition to that President Clinton emptied the so called LOCK BOX creating the deficit that you are complaining about today. Where did that money go? Who knows you still don’t know where the 3 Trillion missing Pentagon dollars went because 9/11 usurped that crisis.

  • systemBuilder

Well, First Lady Laura Bush has a good head on her shoulders if she supports equal rights for ALL Americans. And I don’t see a problem with a woman’s right to choose. You call the whole 50 items on the list into question when you try to paint these reasoned political positions as wacko.

Human instincts are (1) Survival, (2) Mating and Reproduction. People who try to deny gay people the rights to their god-given instincts don’t deserve to live in a free country such as the United States.

America is in her death rattle. We have sown the wind with our seeds of wickedness and are reaping the whirlwind.God has this Nation between His crosshairs. The last straw was Israel. When Comrade Obama made this Nation an enemy of Israel,He set us up for a showdown with the God Of Israel.Economic collapse, earthquakes, terrorist nuclear attacks, anarchy, revolution and secession is in our future. The loss of life will be enormous-in the millions.America ,the Babylon,is doomed.

  • Mary

QuoVadisanima and so many others are expressing the truths about how civil human beings should behave. It is a comfort to know that there is still a majority of sane people left in this country. Social issues go hand in hand with economic ones. And those that ignore the laws of God are such fools. Miracles such as the apparitions of the Virgin Mary and the prophecies told have been witnessed by so many worldwide. Fatima, Lourdes, Guadalupe, etc. and now Medjugorje. How can you not be convinced by a Eucharist host bleeding year after year in a church in Italy. Or the oils or blood falling from the faces of religious statues. The humble acceptance of suffering by the Saints and their loyalty to the Church. How can you explain the stigmata of St. Padre Pio and others? I can go on and on with more of these such miracles, but it would not change those of you who are in denial of God and his laws. You are blind. How sad. The rest of us and our nation will have to suffer because of your ignorant and prideful ways. The fact that today we accept Hollywood and its disturbing culture is a tragedy. How can anyone find Lady GaGa normal! She is a weirdo. Doesen’t anyone in the media have the decency to admit that the talent today stinks.

  • Save the Republic

“If men fight, and hurt a woman with child, so that she gives birth prematurely, yet no harm follows, he shall surely be punished accordingly as the woman’s husband imposes on him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. But if any harm follows, then you shall give life for life…”

    Exodus 21:22-23

“These six things the LORD hates, yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood…”

    Proverbs 6:16-17

“If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination.”

    Leviticus 20:13

And finally, why “economics” has everything to do with America’s immorality…

“The instant I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, to pull down, and to destroy it, if that nation against whom I have spoken turns from its evil, I will relent of the disaster that I thought to bring upon it. And the instant I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it, if it does evil in My sight so that it does not obey My voice, then I will relent concerning the good with which I said I would benefit it.”

    Jeremiah 18:7-10

Keep making believe that God doesn’t exist, that somehow order was created from the chaos of some “big-bang explosion” (with all the bombs exploding during war, there should be all kinds of new species running around by now). Keep watching America crash and burn due to your rebelliousness. It’s like a toddler holding his ears, saying “la-la-la, I can’t hear you”, and hoping the adult goes away.

  • Dan

Interesting implications of points 40 and 28. The *average* federal worker makes twice as much as the “average” private sector worker, but the “average” executive’s paycheck to the “average” worker’s paycheck is now between 300 to 500 to one. (I also note that the links for us to verify this stuff point at pages that don’t seem to talk about the point.)

But even if both points are true, it seems as though if we’re really talking about “average” workers, we really should measure executives and non-executives separately, and see if there really is that much of a gap.

I would also very much like to know if the “average” executive includes public and private sector executives.

Things like this throw the whole list into question and that’s sad because there are several valid points.

Instead of throwing self-contradictory points into it, wouldn’t it have been more effective to list the top 25 reasons we’re headed to hell in a handbasket, rather than 50?

  • wow….wow…1) Since 1973, more than 50 million babies have been murdered in abortion facilities across the United States.

  • Michael

A reader names Jim submitted the following comment by email…

On May 5, 2010, (Cinco de Mayo), I attended a Phoenix Suns (Los Suns) vs. San Antonio Spurs NBA playoff game. I was sitting court side (behind the Spurs bench). Since the Suns opted to don the “politically correct” jerseys that night “Los Suns”, I created my own shirt that read VIVA LOS 1070 (support of AZ Senate Bill 1070), knowing my shirt would be on national TV every time the cameras covered action that end of the court. After refusing to remove or turn the shirt inside out, I was ejected from the arena, along with my friend who was wearing the same shirt. To see the international attention it got over several weeks, go to my website, Feel free to contact me for further information…

  • Sarah

How high do you think the number of children under the poverty level would be if the 50 million births aborted hadn’t been? As tough as the decision is to give up a potential child, there is a time that it is both wise and kind to not bring one into this world. Responsible parenting is the bottom line when it comes to the choice of having children. There is no kindness or Godliness in hunger, abandonment and abuse.

    @ #18

Don’t be disingenuous. Those two Christians (Nabeel Qureshi and David Wood) were -not- being ‘peaceful’. They were being rude and obnoxious, and they did the same thing at the previous years’ Arab festival, which was why the cops were already there and prepared to corner them and arrest them. They’re troublemakers. The same thing would happen if two Muslims went to a European festival and started shouting and insulting Paul or whatever, especially if they’d done it the year before and were making a big scene about how they were going to do it again, lol

  • Hg Wells

Mary, you are entirely correct. But few here will have any idea what you are talking about. If they did, they would have an entirely different understanding of things in an entirely different context. Those who know what the facts of happened at Fatima, as well as what is actually happening at Medjugorje today, are deeply and quietly concerned about what they see around them.

  • dj Isaiah

abortion is murder,You have been programed by the illumnati to believe that it isnt. it doesnt take money to raise kids, all my friends are broke hippies they all have very hapy kids.
Im not religious, but targeting poor black neiborhoods with an abudence of abortion clinics is wrong. That is why abortion is one of the things that is ruining america. It has nothing to do with a womens right to choose. That is how they got everyone to go along with it, they made it a womens rights issue. cmon wake the **** up, if you want to know the truth you have to be ready to except all of it …they got you..

Item #48 – 86 y/o grandma tasered by police. This is from a website that is a “nationwide news service for lawyers and the news media.” Obviously they are going to make out the police to be as wicked and evil as possible, and they’re sure not going to say something like, “Yes, we deserved it. We were being rude, disrespectful, and uncooperative.”
A quick search did not turn up this story on any newspaper or V website.
This also contained only one side of the story. Wish Paul Harvey was here to tell us “the rest of the story!”
I’m withholding judgement on this until I hear more facts (assuming I’ve heard any facts yet.)

“#1) Since 1973, more than 50 million babies have been murdered in abortion facilities across the United States”

Let me correct that: “More than 50 million tumors have been removed in abortion facilities across the United States. Contrary to what you bible thumpers think, life does NOT begin at conception. It begins when the heart starts beating. Therefore it is no more than a tumor until it has a heartbeat.

  • Alex P.

    Veritas Splendor:

Oh wait, I forgot that we are not a theocracy. If you idiots want a country based on strict laws from scripture and “God-fearing” people, I suggest you move to Iran. This country’s laws are based on a constitution, not a Bible. Sure, many principles they believed in were based on Christianity, but almost all western civilization was somehow influenced by it. That doesn’t mean the Founding Fathers wanted to impose biblical law on others. They left England precisely so they could be free to believe and do what they wanted so long as it didn’t harm anyone else. This country was built on the Enlightenment principles of rule by the consent of the governed and human reason, which goes against the doctrines of Divine Right that many kings used back then.

Also, by legislating morality I meant enforcing a certain orthodox view on others against their will. Who the hell cares about homosexuality for crying out loud? So long as it’s between consenting adults, it’s no one else’s business.

But you know what REALLY grinds my gears. When idiots go and preach and talk as if a COSMIC UNIVERSAL GOD is going to give a single hoot about the political squabbles of a bunch of humans on a infinitesimally small ball of dirt and water, which are nothing but less than microbes compared to the universe and God. Think about it.

  • sonnyboy

As a nation, we are in the worst situation in our history. The most practical way out might be to break apart into seven or eight regions. As it is, too much money and too many resources are being given to actions which are of no benefit whatsoever to the average person in this country. The only way to save this republic would to completely change the political and financial system and that simply isn’t going to happen. Most empires last about 200 to 250 years and we are in that range now. A break-up couldn’t make things worse and might actually free the American spirit which at present is chained up.

  • Every state every American should NOW start Disobeying any Law that is contary to the Consituation – Enough is enough – Obama and all those on Capital Hill need to realise and fast – that this Nation under God is not for sale – Benidict Arolds will not be tolerated – Bombard your Senators evry minute of every day give him no rest until he upholds the True Constituation or resign – Find every means that is humanly possible but without violence but in their face that they cannot ignore God bless America

The guys passing out Christianity were really there to incite violence and that is why they were arrested. When the rate of abortions rise, guess what declines about 15 years after the fact? …. CRIME. When women are FORCED to bear children who they cannot adequately care for, the children end up lost, on the streets and eventually become involved in crime. Safe, legal abortions are the most humane and compassionate way to deal with unwanted pregnancies.

    • Navvet1

Finally someone who makes sense on the matter of abortion. We wonder why we have kids in public schools that do not want to be there in the first place, sell/do drugs, join gangs and cause trouble for the rest of the hard working people. Kids that have no where to go and are lost in life either find a way out of their situation and make a better life (FEW) and the other half that drain our resources dry.

  • Unity? What unity does good have with evil? The International Socialist (Democrat Party) with the freedom-loving and hard-working? What truck does the illegal have with those that do not break the laws? What unity is there between those who choose to do the right with those who choose evil as a way of life? What unity between those of good character and those who use marijuana to get high and through their daily life, live to tell lies and rationalize everything they do? By age 45, 43% of U.S. women have committed murder by abortion. What price a baby’s blood? What unity between those that rationalize that by saying “it’s not human” or “it’s better off dead” as the National Socialists did of the Jews, Slavs and other “undesireables” in Germany, Italy, Hungary and Poland from 1940 to 1945?

Those fifty facts are very upsetting and demoralizing. I sadly also agree that we are seeing the end times for the greatest country ever, caused by our own hand. From Danny on July 5th 7:45pm:

“86 y/o grandma tasered by police… Obviously they are going to make out the police to be as wicked and evil as possible, and they’re sure not going to say something like, ‘Yes, we deserved it. We were being rude, disrespectful, and uncooperative.'”

I’m perfectly stunned by your comment. You may want to experience a 50kilovolt taser shock so you understand what you say.

For my part, I will never accept that tasering and stepping on an old woman’s oxygen hose is justified for mere rudeness, disrespectfulness or uncooperativeness. I don’t care if she is loudly and obnoxiously waving a loaded shotgun – the moral and civilized response is to walk away and let her calm down absent another person being in immediate danger. Only in extraordinary and indeed outlandish circumstances could this ‘officer’s’ actions be proper. But you support turning the exception into the rule – justifying obscene force to keep the public ‘in line’, I suppose.

Local police in many states are slowly turning into a gestapo for no reason better than mere expediency. This is to be rebuked, not supported. This officer needs to be indicted and sent to prison if convicted; and you should re-think the proper role of police in civilized society.

The police are be defended by the public when they act with honor and courage in the line of duty. This is not one of those situations. Shame on you for confusing abuse of the helpless with courage or honor – it is not an easy mistake to make.

These facts are all disgusting. How have we gotten ourselves here? And, I know this is a blog, but the #1 item… aren’t we over this whole calling medical procedures murder? I’m not a big whack job who pickets or puts bumper stickers on my car, I don’t want to push anyone’s buttons. Just saying, in this day and age calling abortions murder is like calling a lobotomy a mental health plan. Keep and share your opinions by all means, but can we step it up to this century? Thank you.

hahaha all these good points until this dude brings up the abortion issue and we find out who he really is. it’s hard to take someone seriously when this is the #1 thing that makes you wonder what in the world has happened to america. i think that is the last thing on most people’s minds; douchebag.

  • An unborn child is only a tumor until the heart starts beating, you say???

Well, the heart starts beating at only 18-21 days after conception, so the woman getting an abortion IS KILLING A CHILD, not a tumor!!

Very few women know they are pregnant before the heart starts beating. Of course, a distinct human is created when 46 chromosomes emerge from the 23 male and 23 female. That is before implantation, before anyone can tell she is pregnant!

    Let’s be accurate, please…..

  • You forgot, dumbass, to add anything about the massive cost of our military-industrial complex burdens our nation and drives us into debt….our military spending is almost equal to the rest of the world’s nations military spending COMBINED!

I live in Arizona despite all the hullabaloo we need comprehensive immigration reform. The border is trashed and today a friend of my related two instances of one break in a neighborhood committed by Mexicans. Also he was outside a Food City and some Mexican American youth ran out of the store with huge amounts of meat in their arms jumped in a car and ran away. My best friends inlaws were hit by an illegal immigrant with no insurance and his wife died soon after because of trauma. There were an elderly couple. Granted there are good people here, but we need to close the door. Also, another friend is a social worker and shakes his head that the illegals he works with are on health insurance and food subsidies.

I would travel to feed a family, but how many more poor people can we afford when Americans are out of work and sometimes cannot find a job because they don’t speak Spanish. The system is broken, so broken and we can’t take it anymore.

Regarding #40, pay of federal workers verses private works, three years ago when I was a GS-14 supervising contractors in the Washington D.C. area, most of my contact employees made more than I did, one of them made 50% more than I did. In Northern Virginia, the contractors make far more than the US GOV employees do on average which, at that time, resulted in a flight of government workers into contract jobs. The down side is that contractors are easy to get rid of, so they may wish they hadn’t jumped ship as the US GOV can now dump the contracts to cut costs if they so choose…

HG Wells you know. If the rest of these ignorant fools only had more faith. Babies being called tumors, Masons trying to twist our Founding Fathers true Christian beliefs. They can’t deal with the fact that our Constitution was totally based on Christianity. Such disturbing facts from people only deceiving themselves. Read! Learn History! Tumors? Medical Procedures? uterine contents? Please. I think you can find many many ways to justify murder, but that does not mean it is not murder. The child has individually specific DNA from the moment of conception…in other words, it is a new unique life and therefore killing this child is, in fact, Murder. Medical Procedure? Are you kidding? It will not be long before the kids of the NEXT generation will be selling themselves on this term as a justification to euthanize the elderly. I can hear it now, “come on man get with the modern world, it is a MEDICAL PROCEDURE and you are no longer a human being after you cost more to keep alive and I need you dead before you spend all the money I will get when you die” Be careful how you choose to justify your barbaric practices. We decry the death of 3-6 million Jewish people and call it a holocaust and it was; but 50 million innocent children slaughtered in the name of “choice”? I hear points such as hunger, suffering, inhumane. I am impressed that one can be killed because they MIGHT be hungry one day, because they MIGHT suffer one day, because it is MORE humane to murder a child than it is to put the child up for adoption. I wish nothing for you but what you wish on the innocent murdered children. Prior to 1973 there was over 250,000 RECORDED adoptions every year. Now there are less than 15,000 and the line, bureaucracy, and monetary cost is daunting. If only there were more babies available to adopt…but alas, there should be no adoptions. Let’s just kill it. You people are sick and need my prayers.

God and spirituality has been taken right out of our daily lives. It’s supposed to be the most important thing in our lives. That constant dialogue with God. Living as Jesus did. Acting with your highest thought of self. Every action in love.
Man gained “power” forgot about what is really the most important- God and your communion with him. I’m not implying being God fearing, but how do some people sleep at night. Or knowing what they’ve done, knowing they’re gonna meet their maker? or by not aknowleding God, then what, he doesn’t exist? God has been taken out of In God we trust. It’s become who ever has the most power, money and the furthest reaching hands is driving the bus now. Think about what motivates, truly motivates the actions taken by our fellow Americans. Money? Power? Greed? The attitude of you can never have enough of something. The scriptures quoted above, Beautiful! America does have some huge earmuffs on shouting lalalalala hoping God will just go away. It’s sad, really sad!
Go out and rekindle your relationship with God, its not like your life will get any worse. It can only get better and besides, he’s been waiting for you- patiently….

We have a right to choose What is right for our future and I’ll be damned if I let my child grow up poor on food stamps (use a condom people!!!). Stop having babies if you cant afford it. All you are doing is making slaves for the corporations. Stop making the tax payers pay ridiculous amounts of money. Start voting locally where it really counts and help fix this country! Down with the IRS! Viva La Revolution. Also to the writer ~ Bias much?

I am a big supporter of abortion… we need less mouths to feed if any of these issues are to be corrected…TY

The opening of this article rails against the increased socialization of our society, yet many of the 50 observations are the result of capitalism. Is the irony intentional, or can you guys not decide which side of the fence you want to sit on?

To systemscammer: Let me see two homosexuals placed on a lush island and left to survive, mate and reproduce. That would be 0 for 3. “Mate” implies the chance for increase.

The insanity posted on this blog is mind blowing. The amount of ignorance the majority of the people are spewing is unfathomable. The country may have been founded on Christianity because Christianity was and is the dominant religion in the country but it is not and never was a Christian nation. We were founded as a Democratic nation where people have the right to choose what they do and do not believe in (and perhaps the Founding Fathers overestimated a lot of people being able to handle the ability to choose without being led around like sheeple). You don’t have to be a bible thumper to be a moral upright citizen and do what you believe is your heart is right, only a in ideologue blindly follows anything without questioning it. We’re a nation of philosophers and if people weren’t so fundamentally ignorant in respect and right of others to choose things for themselves because they, themselves, can’t handle the choice for themselves, we would actually be in a much better place than we all now. This doesn’t make the other people any more or less culpable because they themselves choose poorly. Abortion is not murder but to any moral person they should realize that it is not and should not be considered a form of birth control and should only be acceptable in the cases of rape, incest, and when the mother’s life is threatened by the pregnancy. You all need to take your hands off your ears and stop screaming your ideologies at the top of your lungs. Guess what? No one cares, and I sure as hell don’t. And I’m going to continue to make choices and do what I feel is right because I feel it is right, not because someone else told me it was right and not because I was too stupid to make my own choices for myself.

Disgusted American, I can sleep at night because of one very simple fact: I don’t believe in God. I am also for selective procreation and involuntary sterilization for most of the idiots out there. Too many stupid people, making more stupid people. Chris, more people like you need to be around, you said it much better than I could have. Before anyone asks, I do not have children or want them, I believe that there are too many here and too many being had. For crying out loud, instead of adding to the overpopulation problem that no one seems to want to acknowledge, here is an idea, ADOPT!

  • bruce

All you bible thumpers – what IF there is no God? Nobody to save you. Nobody to dispense justice. Maybe it is because you lay – back and think God will punish those evil doers, and nothing gets done.
Get off your asses and do something cause even if there is a God, He ain’t taking care of buisness. IT IS UP TO YOU TO ACT.

I object strenuously to your use of the word
murdered in “your” #1 item. It is a bias that renders all of your other “facts” questionable.

I’ll be amazed if you publish this.
