55 Interesting Facts About The U.S. Economy In 2012

Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Google+Share on LinkedInShare on StumbleUponEmail this to someone

How is the U.S. economy doing in 2012?  Unfortunately, it is not doing nearly as well as the mainstream media would have you believe.  Yes, things have stabilized for the moment but this bubble of false hope will not last for long.  The long-term trends that are ripping our economy and our financial system to shreds continue unabated.  When you step back and look at the broader picture, it is hard to deny that we are in really bad shape and that things are rapidly getting worse.  Later on in this article you will find a list of interesting facts that show the true state of the U.S. economy.  Hopefully many of you will find this list to be a useful tool that you can share with your family and friends.  Each day the foundations of our economy crumble a little bit more, and we need to wake up as many Americans as we can to what is really going on while there is still time.  We have accumulated way too much debt, we consume far more wealth than we produce, millions of our jobs are being shipped overseas, our big cities are decaying, family budgets are being squeezed more than ever, poverty is rampant and we have raised several generations of Americans that expect the government to fix all of their problems.  The U.S. economy is at a crossroads, and the decisions that the American people make in 2012 are going to be incredibly important.

The statistics listed below are presented without much commentary.  They pretty much speak for themselves.

After reading this list, it will be hard for anyone to argue that we are on the right track.

The following are 55 interesting facts about the U.S. economy in 2012….

#1 As you read this, there are more than 6 million mortgages in the United States that are overdue.

#2 In January, U.S. home prices were the lowest that they have been in more than a decade.

#3 In Florida right now, some drivers are paying nearly 6 dollars for a gallon of gas.

#4 On average, you could buy about 10 gallons of gas for an hour of work back in the mid-90s.  Today, the average hour of work will get you less than 6 gallons of gas.

#5 Sadly, 43 percent of all American families spend more than they earn each year.

#6 According to Gallup, the unemployment rate was at 8.3% in mid-January but rose to 9.0% in mid-February.

#7 The percentage of working age Americans that have jobs is not increasing.  The employment to population ratio has stayed very steady (hovering between 58% and 59%) since the beginning of 2010.

#8 If you gathered together all of the workers that are “officially” unemployed in the United States into one nation, they would constitute the 68th largest country in the entire world.

#9 When Barack Obama first took office, the number of “long-term unemployed workers” in the United States was approximately 2.6 million.  Today, that number is sitting at 5.6 million.

#10 The average duration of unemployment in the United States is hovering close to an all-time record high.

#11 According to Reuters, approximately 23.7 million American workers are either unemployed or underemployed right now.

#12 There are about 88 million working age Americans that are not employed and that are not looking for employment.  That is an all-time record high.

#13 According to CareerBuilder, only 23 percent of American companies plan to hire more employees in 2012.

#14 Back in the year 2000, about 20 percent of all jobs in America were manufacturing jobs.  Today, about 5 percent of all jobs in America are manufacturing jobs.

#15 The United States has lost an average of approximately 50,000 manufacturing jobs a month since China joined the World Trade Organization in 2001.

#16 Amazingly, more than 56,000 manufacturing facilities in the United States have been shut down since 2001.

#17 According to author Paul Osterman, about 20 percent of all U.S. adults are currently working jobs that pay poverty-level wages.

#18 During the Obama administration, worker health insurance costs have risen by 23 percent.

#19 An all-time record 49.9 million Americans do not have any health insurance at all at this point, and the percentage of Americans covered by employer-based health plans has fallen for 11 years in a row.

#20 According to the New York Times, approximately 100 million Americans are either living in poverty or in “the fretful zone just above it”.

#21 In the United States today, corporate profits are at an all-time high.  The percentage of Americans that are living in “extreme poverty” is also at an all-time high according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

#22 In the United States today, the wealthiest one percent of all Americans have a greater net worth than the bottom 90 percent combined.

#23 The poorest 50 percent of all Americans now collectively own just 2.5% of all the wealth in the United States.

#24 The number of children living in poverty in the state of California has increased by 30 percent since 2007.

#25 According to the National Center for Children in Poverty, 36.4% of all children that live in Philadelphia are living in poverty, 40.1% of all children that live in Atlanta are living in poverty, 52.6% of all children that live in Cleveland are living in poverty and 53.6% of all children that live in Detroit are living in poverty.

#26 Since Barack Obama entered the White House, the number of Americans on food stamps has increased from 32 million to 46 million.

#27 As the economy has slowed down, so has the number of marriages.  According to a Pew Research Center analysis, only 51 percent of all Americans that are at least 18 years old are currently married.  Back in 1960, 72 percent of all U.S. adults were married.

#28 In 1984, the median net worth of households led by someone 65 or older was 10 times larger than the median net worth of households led by someone 35 or younger.  Today, the median net worth of households led by someone 65 or older is 47 times larger than the median net worth of households led by someone 35 or younger.

#29 If you can believe it, 37 percent of all U.S. households that are led by someone under the age of 35 have a net worth of zero or less than zero.

#30 After adjusting for inflation, U.S. college students are borrowing about twice as much money as they did a decade ago.

#31 According to the Student Loan Debt Clock, total student loan debt in the United States will surpass the 1 trillion dollar mark at some point in 2012.  If you went out right now and starting spending one dollar every single second, it would take you more than 31,000 years to spend one trillion dollars.

#32 Today, 46% of all Americans carry a credit card balance from month to month.

#33 Incredibly, one out of every seven Americans has at least 10 credit cards.

#34 The average interest rate on a credit card that is carrying a balance is now up to 13.10 percent.

#35 Of the U.S. households that do have credit card debt, the average amount of credit card debt is an astounding $15,799.

#36 Overall, Americans are carrying a grand total of $798 billion in credit card debt.  If you were alive when Jesus was born and you spent a million dollars every single day since then, you still would not have spent $798 billion by now.

#37 It may be hard to believe, but the truth is that consumer debt in America has increased by a whopping 1700% since 1971.

#38 At this point, about 70 percent of all auto purchases in the United States involve an auto loan.

#39 In the United States today, 45 percent of all auto loans are made to subprime borrowers.

#40 Mortgage debt as a percentage of GDP has more than tripled since 1955.

#41 According to a recent study conducted by the BlackRock Investment Institute, the ratio of household debt to personal income in the United States is now 154 percent.

#42 To get the same purchasing power that you got out of $20.00 back in 1970 you would have to have more than $116 today.

#43 When Barack Obama first took office, an ounce of gold was going for about $850.  Today an ounce of gold costs more than $1700 an ounce.

#44 The number of Americans that are not paying federal incomes taxes is at an all-time high.

#45 A staggering 48.5% of all Americans live in a household that receives some form of government benefits.  Back in 1983, that number was below 30 percent.

#46 The amount of money that the federal government gives directly to Americans has increased by 32 percent since Barack Obama entered the White House.

#47 During 2012, the U.S. government must roll over nearly 3 trillion dollars of old debt.

#48 The U.S. debt to GDP ratio has now reached 101 percent.

#49 At the moment, the U.S. national debt is sitting at a grand total of $15,419,800,222,325.15.

#50 The U.S. national debt is now more than 22 times larger than it was when Jimmy Carter became president.

#51 During the Obama administration, the U.S. government has accumulated more debt than it did from the time that George Washington took office to the time that Bill Clinton took office.

#52 If the federal government began right at this moment to repay the U.S. national debt at a rate of one dollar per second, it would take over 440,000 years to pay off the national debt.

#53 If Bill Gates gave every single penny of his fortune to the U.S. government, it would only cover the U.S. budget deficit for about 15 days.

#54 Right now, the U.S. national debt is increasing by about 150 million dollars every single hour.

#55 Spending by the federal government accounted for about 2 percent of GDP back in 1800.  It accounted for 23.8 percent in 2011, and according to former U.S. Comptroller General David M. Walker, it will account for 36.8 percent of GDP by 2040.

Bad news, eh?

But it isn’t just our economy that is decaying.

We are witnessing a tremendous amount of social decay as well.  As I wrote about the other day, America is rapidly decomposing right in front of our eyes.

When the water level of a river drops far enough, it will reveal rocks that have been hidden from view for a very long time.  Well, a similar thing is happening in America right now.  For decades, our debt-fueled prosperity has masked a lot of the social decay that has been going on.

But now that our prosperity is evaporating, a lot of frightening stuff is being revealed.

Unfortunately, another major financial crisis is rapidly approaching and economic conditions in the United States are going to get a lot worse.

So what is our country going to look like when that happens?

That is a very good question.

  • r.bitting

A nation whose foundations were established on the Word of God looks to an election to change it’s course, demonstrating that it’s people no longer esteem His word and have forsaken their God. For had they still known him, they would have also known that it is God alone who raises up kings and removes kings from power ( Daniel 2:20-21, 4:17, 5:21 ).They would have seen their present condition for what it was, correction from God, meant to bring a nation to repentance. No one considered in their heart that we have leaders like these because we have departed from the paths of righteousness and embraced evil, and no one considers in their heart that unless we repent and return to our God, we can expect things to only get worse. Our enemies see the gaps in our walls and they prepare to make their move, all the while, our leaders throw lavish parties in the White House, oblivious to the suffering masses and oblivious to the enemies advances. And if you listen carefully, you can almost hear the voice of the First Lady as she stands in the midst of her party guests, telling them” let the people eat cake ” while behind her the hand of God writes the final verdict for a rebellious nation on the wall between portraits of the Founding Fathers, who 200 years earlier warned us what would become of a nation that turned from the truth.

    • Xander cross

I like how you cherry pick the bible to fit your republican agenda.

      • r.bitting

While I don’t cherry pick from scripture, the question here needs to be: why should that matter to you, if you claim that there is no God, as you have done on this blog many times in the past, because if you truly believed that, then your statement would then be pointless, because the Bible would be of no relevance if it were not inspired, it would be just another book. Honestly though, I find your post refreshing, because at least this time it wasn’t filled with your typical racially motivated AGENDA.

        • Nexus789

Religion has no relevance to the real world except make it worse. Religion (all religions) is a human construct – nothing more than that. It is a cop out so you can blame others and not take responsibility for what is going on or your actions.
So when the system collapses you rush off to your church and prey very hard….I guarantee that nothing will change.

          • M. Hapney

Nexus – thank you for injecting some rationality into the string of useless, religious commentary. You would think that a fringe blog like this one would be filled with free-thinking, informed people.

No, mostly the deluded … and sadly … arrogant.

      • Gman

I think that collective and individual repentance
as well as a nation turning away from evil and turning toward GOD have been overarching themes for the Jewish people and Christian nations throughout the ages.

    • Kevin l

Wow, great summation of our current situation.

    • InArizona

I have thought of this many times over. God gives us what we need when we need it, and I see Obama being what we needed. The question remains: will it be for enough people to turn this around? Sadly I think the answer is no, but it is almost as if God is giving us one more last chance. This is why I support Santorum, although he might not be tea-party on the fiscal stuff, he is the moral fiber we need, that I believe God is giving us a choice on. I beleive that the financial decay in America is the direct result of the moral decay. I could be wrong, but the sentiment you expressed (and my support for Santorum) was the exact content of my prayer last night! I pray that this could be the turning point, and know that my God is an Awesome God!

      • TK

I agree that there will not be enough Americans waking up in time to turn things around!

By the way, Santorum supported planned parent hood, He may look Christian (just like many Americans) but his voting record stinks. Check out the proof here:

        • Obama Christian Muslim Church in Damascus, Md.

Our church believes in the good gospels of Obama and that Obama will be of divine principle on October 21st of this year. We need to worship and praise Obama along with God so the world will improve and our economy will be stable.

      • Craig

InArizona, I agree 100% with you.

      • Gary2

He sure don’t give us what we want or I would be rich!

    • You are ridiculing Christianity!!!

      • Game Over

        oh I’ve only just begun…

      • r.bitting

No, I just care enough to try to wake some up while theres still time to. So should you.

      • Jeff

Christianity needs to be ridiculed, as it is full of hypocrites who cherry pick the bible to advance their own political agendas.

    • justamom

r.bitting, these are hard and sobering words, but I believe it is an accurate description of where we are as a nation. May God have mercy upon us!

    • Proftel

      R. Bitting: *

God is omniscient and omnipresent, is like a hardware.

Religion is like software, you can choose a Linux, Mac, Microsoft, Unix, Dos-Shell, etc. Kolibri.

Politics and religion go together, are solved in whorehouses.

I ask, do not mix God with religion and politics is ugly, very ugly.

      * Michael, I’m sorry. I could not stand such nonsense.

      • r.bitting

Show me in the scriptures where i’m wrong, your post makes no sense whatsoever.

        • Proftel

          R. Biting:
According to their scriptures you’re right, according to common sense, very, very wrong.

        • Proftel

          R. Bitting:

Hopefully you use Chrome as a browser, I’ll answer in my native language, can believe that I am nothing “politically correct”.
What happens is this: do not mix religion with politics. Do not criticize the homeowner. If you have a religion, to preserve itself. Most blogs focused on geopolitics or economics like that Michael did not lend themselves to cheap propaganda like this that you are doing.

Took the hint, or want me to draw for you?

          • r.bitting

Again, your posts are making no sense.

    • St. Lukes School Teacher

Some of my students in our school are taking trips down to Washington, D.C. to worship and praise president Obama and calling him God and Prophet because Obama is a good christian family man and a good president. Some churches that are Muslim in nature say that Obama will be God on October 21st of this year. What is your take on this? Let’s have an open forum on this theory!

  • JR

The government has an interest in keeping these facts from the american people. If the general public were to get this type of hard-hitting, fact-based bad news on a daily basis, there would already be panic in the streets and – dare I say – in the markets. So, to keep people calm and distracted (so they won’t riot), the data is “softened” and “padded”.

As we descend into chaos, we get boring minutae that passes for election coverage, idiots on reality TV and the never-ending drama from washed-up celebrity types. How clever!

Intelligence Study Links Low I.Q. To Prejudice, Racism, Conservatism

Do conservatives tend to be less intelligent than liberals? A provocative new study from Brock University in Ontario suggests the answer is an qualified yes.

I always intuitively knew conservatives weren’t very bright, but of course you can’t tell them that — they’d never be able to understand it.

This study sponsored by the Institute for the Blatantly Obvious.

Right-Wing Ideology and Lower Cognitive Ability.

Sorry conservatives–Your a few fries short of a happy meal! Here is the study with links.

    • madsr

My mother always said don’t argue with an idiot people won’t be able to tell you apart.

    • Syrin

Hey moron. How manmy times does this have to be refuted before you GRASP this.

Here’s the thing, you’re too stupid to even grasp how stupid this is! FIRST of all, these “studies” are little more than propaganda pieces brought forth by the idiots of the world such as yourself. AS HAS BEEN PREVIOUSLY STATED, this “study” has two HUGE flaws that you conveniently over look. First, the selection bias is INSANE. 95+% of the welfare and prison pop’l are LIBERALS GARY. How many geniuses do you think are in those two pop’l groups? How many of those were STUDIED, GARY ?!?! Secondly, the AUTHORS get to make THEIR OWN DEFINITION of conservative versus liberal and ask questions that PREDTERMINE the outcome against the conservative sby the VERY NATURE OF THE QUESTION.

See GARY, I’m a physician and am actually CAPABLE of rational thought, and not pre-programmed repsonses to “studies” handed to you by a Soros “think tank”, that you can site and MINDLESSLY say “see”. We actually have to ANALYZE studies, ANALYZE data, and that involves THOUGHT, the VERY THOUGHT you claimm we lack, but exhibit YOURSELF.

Our own study HERE shows how ENORMOUSLY STUPID you are in comparison! You have defeated your own point. Besides, I HAVE LINKED OTHER studies in direct contrast to this, yet you cling to this IDIOCY.

Study after study HAS shown that self defined liberals are angrier and less happy than conservatives, something you demonstrate in bundles.

      • gary2

you must be a doctor of dumb then! The study is correct as anyone with any brain can plainly see conservatives are not as smart as the rest of the population.. You do not see smart folks watching fox or listening to the am hate machine (talk about air pollution!)

Simply look at the low /middle income folks voting conservative against their own economic self intrest. If that’s not stupid what is?

      • gary2

Study after study HAS shown that self defined liberals are angrier and less happy than conservatives, something you demonstrate in bundles.

Thats becuase ignorance is bliss and conservaitves are ignorant and thus happier. DUH!

You know everytime you post something you illistrate the validity of the Canadian study.

Rest assured, Gary2 is just as braindead supporting Obomber as any rightwinger who supports the republican wing of the war party.

You say you are a physician by profession and yet you don’t know the difference between analytical thinking and critical thinking? Clearly that is where Gary2 was heading, pointing out the fact that critical thinking skills are what the rightwingers in the republican party and although not mentioned, the rightwingers in the democrat party sorely lack.

You say republican rightwingers are “happier” than democrat rightwingers? And that would explain why republican rightwingers have nothing on the brain except war, death, and destruction, because they are just so much happier than everyone else? Yeah, right……………

The truth is simply this: The asylum states of amerika is in the death grip of a murderous war party with two rightwings, both republican and democrat, whose legions of fascist voters and supporters see the empire as a useful tool to vent the rage that they feel against the rest of the world due to their inadequacies in the human realm. Waging war is paramount to the psyche of both republican and democrat rightwingers. You people would freak if one day you woke up and heard an asylum states president say from that moment forth military action would only be used to “defend” amerika and that the empire was being liquidated. Democrat and republican war party rightwingers can not possibly imagine a world where murdering people for geo-political objectives is obselete.

        • Gary2

You say you are a physician by profession and yet you don’t know the difference between analytical thinking and critical thinking

Syrin-you are probably the doctor who leaves surgical instruments inside people you operate on.

        • Gary2

REED-this explains why almost all repubes signed the grover norquist tax pledge. That is all the proof I need to show they lack thinking skills period much analytical/critical thinking skills.

Thats their signature on the tax pledge-sort of hard to refute that.

As for the DINOS (conservative dems) like Ben Nelson they need to go!

      • Gary2

        Hey DR. of Dick—Syrin,

Its not just me that agrees that your responses are totally devoid of any intellectual thoughts.

I could have watched fox for 2 minutes if I wanted to hear what you posted!

    • Syrin

Besides, let’s look at HISTORY GARY, objective FACTS GARY.

So you claim being conservative leads to prejudice (when ironically you are the most hateful bigotted poster that taints this web site).

      Let’s see.

From its inception, the modern Republican party supported and fought for civil rights. It was founded for the express purpose of opposing slavery. The modern Democrat party was founded a few years earlier for the express purpose of protecting slavery. Republicans ended slavery. Republicans enacted civil rights legislation in the 1870’s comparable to the 1960’s civil rights legislation. The two sets of legislation were similar because they were written by the same party, Republicans. In the late 1800’s, the Democrat party achieved a majority and proceeded to repeal all of the civil rights legislation and to enact the Jim Crow laws, thus not only institutionalizing racism, but mandating it.

The civil rights legislation passed in 1964 was originally proposed in the 1950’s during Dwight Eisenhower’s administration by Republicans, but the Democrats, including JFK, blocked it. As president, JFK went to the Republicans, hat in hand, and asked them to resurrect the 1950’s legislation because of the violent riots. (Democrats always succumb to violence, it is the only thing they respect…which is why they have so much empathy for radical islam.) When it passed, it was with 80% support from Republicans and only 60% support from Democrats.

It is the Democrats who vilified blaacks for over a century, in politics and in the media, while conservatives and Republicans fought for them and their rights. In fact the KuKK was the militant arm of the Democrat party, accepting both funding and direction from that party, just like ACORN and the SIEU today. They murdered over 4800 Republicans, about 75% of them black and 25% white. The deal was, vote Democrat or else…and it worked.

13th Amendment: 100% Republican Support Abolished Slavery 23% Democratic Support

14th Amendment 94% Republican Support Slaves to be Citizens 0% Democratic Support

15th Amendment 100% Republican Support Right to Vote for All 0% Democratic Support

CRA 1866 Enacted by the Republican Party Equal Rights

CRA 1871 Enacted by the Republican Party Anti-KKK

      CRA 1875 99% Republican Support Anti-Discrimination 0% Democratic Support

———–It took another 82 years until the next Civil Rights Act———
———–The Democratic Party blocked every attempt to equalize citizens of color—–

CRA 1957 Enacted by the Eisenhower (R) Administration
Then Senator Kennedy Voted against this Bill Filibustered by Democrats

CRA 1960 Enacted by the Eisenhower (R) Administration
The final version was watered down by then Senator LBJ Filibustered by the Democrats

CRA 1964 82% Republican Support 63% Democratic Support

CRA 1965 87% Republican Support Voting Rights 75% Democratic Support

      • gary2

yes the republican party of Lincoln was not racsist that is true, however, this is 146 years later and in case you are not aware things have changed quite a bit since then. Funny you have to go back over 100 years to show conservatives are not racsist.

    • Syrin

So aside from selection bias, question bias, and historical facts and studies CONTRARY to tyhe otherwise, you keep clinging to your bigotry GARY.

READ GARY, and red the comments GARY, it blasts this piece of s*** “study” out the damn water that you like to MINDLESSLY (IRONIC, eh MORON?) point to over and over and over again

      • gary2

The study suggests that persons of lower IQ choose to be conservatives because conservatism opposes change and is thus “safer” for those who are slow to adapt. Not only that, the researchers find that conservatives, being persons of low intelligence, are less tolerant, less original, and less open-minded than others.

Yes I would agree with the first part of your link. thanks.

All one need do is look at the buffoons runing for president on the right to plainly see that they want a return to the dark ages.

      • gary2

Read your link-so I guess if one does not measure IQ on the intellengence test then conservatives do better. Also seems to me that the red states have more crime/divorce/out of wedlock births/drug abuse etc so I do not see any moral intellengence their either.

Sorry Syrin-that article you said refuted my study actually proves it. Thanks

    • Syrin

Last, GARY, let’s look at the WORLD AND historical analysis to see if this even REMOTELY passes the sniff test. You know, ANALYTICAL THOUGHT, something YOU lack, and I HAVE, again, in direct DEFIANCE OF YOU AND YOUR STUDY.

Let’s see how liberal economic policies have done in the modern century, shall we?

Nazi Germany, Soviet Russia, Communist China, Zimbabawe, Venezuela, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain, France UK, etc etc etc.

      HOLY S*** !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like YOUR BRILLIANT THINKERS are f***ing up EVERY country they come in contact with? How is that GARY ?!?!?!? They are BRILLIANT, GARY !!!

Liberalism is a FAILED philosophy that can ONLY be implemented in direct violation of human nature. The only way human nature can be violated is through FORCE GARY and is the reason why SOCIALSIT STATES HAVE KILLED MORE PEOPLE IN PEACETIME THAT ALL WORLD WARS COMBINED GARY !

      BRILLIANT !!!! SMART !!!!

GARY, you are what Lenin and Stalin called a useful idiot. Frankly, they were being too kind. You a bitter, uneducated, easily manipulated, greeedy violent bitter nasty person who would destroy his “friends” and neighbors given the slightest chance for personal gain. I consider you to be the greatest threat to not just the US, but humanity in general. CLEAR ?!?!?!

      • Ozmo

EXCELLENT….I don’t think it could be put any other way. Being a counselor I love analyzing how people behave and the motivation behind that behavior. I think GARY is, as you said greedy *Cannot say he’s lazy due to having posed how he lost a good job due to down sizing*, but he believes he’s getting the shaft. I won’t clame to know his IQ, but typically those who attack others is using hte only tools they know. Typical behavior for those who believe they are owed something just for being alive. This would explain why he loves socialism to the extent he does. For those who don’t know, I’m not attacking anyone, socializm holds the belief no one person is more important than anyother person within the society.

Now before anyone gets defensive about where they fall within society, everyone does play a part in keeping society moving. while the idea of socialism is great it can NEVER happen. It just doesn’t work. There are too many examples of how it fails.

As for the United States, not America due to lack of denoting what country in the Americas yes there are many, our goberment has problems many problems. It is MY belief: 1. Free trade should be done away with, 2. The goberment should take a look at how responsibile people live, meaning live within our means, 3. We need to take care of our own before we are trying to settle another countries problems. We have enough of our own.

I only wish people would evaluate what they are posting before they hit that submit comment.

        Just my 2 cents

        • Gary2

Ozmo-this country needs to focus on “WE” and not “I”.

Simply look at the number of times conservatives use the word “I” in their posts. It is jaw dropping. In my posts I almost never use the word I. as a counselor you should be able to see my point.

For the conservatives I will keep it simple-your selfish pursuit of self interest while crapping on everyone else is the problem.

This relentless focus on the rugged individual (largely a myth) is a big part of why we are in this mess. People thought only of themselves, to hell with the next guy.

          • Ozmo

The only issues I have, and I wish I could remember where I read it, is we as a nation cannot take from those who have to give to those without.

as for the use of I over we. I use I statments due to not wanting to speak for anyone else.

I could not agree more with you on the aspect of this country needs to take care of its own. We as a country need to worry about the United States.

I would disagree this nation should look at the individuals who are making record profits each year on the backs of the poor.. those who have to put gas in the car to get to work is only getting more and more difficult. What is going to be gone without next to make it to work to pay what bills I can?

those people who rob and conitinue to rape and pillage from hard working people should be looked at.

I wonder how many people acutally ask themselves “Why is it that (insert oil complany name here) keeps having records sales when everything else is failing?”

I believe there is a special place in Hell for those people.

Srry Michale I don’t think those type of people are doing any of GOD’s work.

It is sad, but I don’t think greed has a political view point.

            Just my 2 cents

      • sharonsj

Sirin, you say “95+% of the welfare and prison pop’l are LIBERALS GARY.” You must have pulled those statistics from your insanely conservative poop.

And let us not compare intellect, reading comprehension, and critical thinking, because I sincerely doubt you possess any. Your claims come from listening to Fox News and Rush Limbaugh, whose lies I could catalog but won’t bother, since you feel facts are such pesky things.

The studies showing that conservatives are less informed and have lower I.Q.s come from university studies. I actually read them, which is something I bet you didn’t.

      • gary2

again-all your opinions and misinterpertians of facts simply makes the point that the Canadoan study is 100% correct!

Keep posting you are making my point perfectly.

If you do not understand things you just call names. Typical of low information people. They are easily frusttrated by their inability to articulate what they think (if they think)

The lowest IQ can be found amongst the DNC, liberals, socialist and with the OWS degenerates. 🙂

    • Kevin l

Interesting point of view, I’m sure shared by many. The word of God actually answers this very question as to why this is. And here it is…

      (1Cor 1:26 [NIV])
Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth.
But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.

      • gary2

But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise.

yep the republicans and the conservative philophsy sure do shame the rest of us. It is embarassing that the american taliban, err tea baggers like Ayatolla Santourm are given any airtime and any credability. This again proves that the study is correct.

I would encourage you to check out this new YouTube video….

          • Mark

Micheal seriously, thanks for posting that youtube link! It was inspiring to me! 🙂

          • gary2

Thanks Mike–One thing-why do you worry about what happens after you die but let whats happening now got to *******?

I am hungry RIGHT NOW. Knowing I will go to heaven or hell when I die does NOTHING to fill my stomach RIGHT NOW.

I think that is a major failing about the religious folks who post on this blog and others. I care about RIGHT NOW.

          • Michael

I want you and everyone that comes to this site to be able to get a good job.

I am extremely concerned about the poor. I write about the growing poverty in America all the time. People are probably sick and tired of hearing me write about it.

But if there is life after death and if it lasts forever, then it is infinitely more important than our present economic troubles….

    • Malcolm Reynolds

Now Gary, you’re certainly borderline disabled based on your limited intellectual capacity, but even YOU know what projection is dont you?

I mean based SOLELY on the history of both parties, you people OWN racism in this country and yet listening to you half-wits, it’s all the republicans.

Low IQ? Well you people worship the Gods of death and destruction with your marxist ideology (a proven failure) and yet again, you simpletons accuse the republicans of low IQs.

      Got Projection Gary?

      • gary2

again keep posting. I find it amussing to see you prove the study from Canada correct!

    • Liberals clinically mad, concludes top psychiatrist

Eminent doctor makes case leftist ideology is a mental disorder

WASHINGTON – Just when liberals thought it was safe to start identifying themselves as such, an acclaimed, veteran psychiatrist is making the case that the ideology motivating them is actually a mental disorder.

“Based on strikingly irrational beliefs and emotions, modern liberals relentlessly undermine the most important principles on which our freedoms were founded,” says Dr. Lyle Rossiter, author of the new book, “The Liberal Mind: The Psychological Causes of Political Madness.” “Like spoiled, angry children, they rebel against the normal responsibilities of adulthood and demand that a parental government meet their needs from cradle to grave.”

While political activists on the other side of the spectrum have made similar observations, Rossiter boasts professional credentials and a life virtually free of activism and links to “the vast right-wing conspiracy.”

For more than 35 years he has diagnosed and treated more than 1,500 patients as a board-certified clinical psychiatrist and examined more than 2,700 civil and criminal cases as a board-certified forensic psychiatrist. He received his medical and psychiatric training at the University of Chicago.

Rossiter says the kind of liberalism being displayed by both Barack Obama and his Democratic primary opponent Hillary Clinton can only be understood as a psychological disorder.

“A social scientist who understands human nature will not dismiss the vital roles of free choice, voluntary cooperation and moral integrity – as liberals do,” he says. “A political leader who understands human nature will not ignore individual differences in talent, drive, personal appeal and work ethic, and then try to impose economic and social equality on the population – as liberals do. And a legislator who understands human nature will not create an environment of rules which over-regulates and over-taxes the nation’s citizens, corrupts their character and reduces them to wards of the state – as liberals do.”

Dr. Rossiter says the liberal agenda preys on weakness and feelings of inferiority in the population by:

      * creating and reinforcing perceptions of victimization;
      * satisfying infantile claims to entitlement, indulgence and compensation;
      * augmenting primitive feelings of envy;
      * rejecting the sovereignty of the individual, subordinating him to the will of the government.

“The roots of liberalism – and its associated madness – can be clearly identified by understanding how children develop from infancy to adulthood and how distorted development produces the irrational beliefs of the liberal mind,” he says. “When the modern liberal mind whines about imaginary victims, rages against imaginary villains and seeks above all else to run the lives of persons competent to run their own lives, the neurosis of the liberal mind becomes painfully obvious.”

  • Gary2

I will not defend Obama-he has been too conservative and look at the mess the economy is in. That should prove conservatism is a failed was of doing anything.

Yes Obama is better than any conservative, however, that’s a pretty low bar to get over.

    • Malcolm Reynolds

Over the last 100 years this country has heaped on more and more of your amoral socialism and we’ve struggled more and more until it’s all falling apart now.

And yet it’s conservatism that’s to blame? Gee Gary, projection much? Low IQ much?

      • gary2

And yet it’s conservatism that’s to blame?

    • i’vegivenup

I agree. Obama has been way to far to the right. Progressives like me feel betrayed but it doesn’t matter at this point because the bleeding is about to get much worse no matter who the next president is…

I dont, i know that addicted ppl dont spend that much time writing about helping others just worry about themselves. Like most conservatives.

    • Another Poster

You know, I’ve actually given up on thinking Gary’s a real person. I think it’s just Michael letting out some steam under a different persona, because there’s no one who can actually just keep repeating all this stuff AND come back to this site every day 😉

      • Michael

Actually Gary is very, very real. He lives in Wisconsin and he even posted a picture of himself once.

You know, over the past couple of years there have been a lot of people that have asked me about Gary. But just like the other people that post comments on this site daily, he is a real person.

And by the way, Mondobeyondo and r.bitting are real people too in case anyone was wondering.

        • r.bitting

Sure they are, that’s what we would expect you to say! ( sorry Michael, could’nt resist. Probably not helping though huh? )

        • gary2

Actually I am happy to see more and more people agreeing with me. Hopefully the others and even Michael will wake from their conservative stupor and wise up and see the light!

      • gary2

Like Michael said-repetition is needed to get folks to change.

        • Jason

Repitition -Lol, yea michael isint the darkest republican out there.

I would love not to depend on government, but they keep making the problems in the first place.

    • Papa Charlie

      He Gary2,

I agree with you, but that’s no wonder, I am a Dutchman. The fact alone that conservatives think that communism and socialism are synonyms, makes me question their intellect.

      So keep up the spirit.

  • I enjoy your articles. They’re very informative and I look forward to them daily. Can you please touch on unemployment in the African-American community? Unemployment effects us ALL, but he numbers for blacks are absolutely astounding. Much worse than the Bush administration, as our black community is still “hope-nitized” by Obama. I’m black and I don’t mind if you don’t hold back any punches, lol. Thanks.

    • gary2

Hate to break it to you but conservatives are racists and could care less about minorities unless they are rich!

Each of the rebubes running for pres have gone out of their way with the dog whistle comments aimed at African Americans, disparaging them several times.

Not my opinion but a fact you can check on your own.

See also the Canadian study about conservatives/low intellect/being racist.

      • GI Joe

“Hate to break it to you but conservatives are racists…” Really? Seriously? Just because you say something over and over, doesn’t make it true. It seems that anyone who criticizes Barry Obama, is instantly labeled a racist! I simply “judge him by the content of his character”. on, and I guess Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson aren’t racists or hypocrites.

  • It begs one to ask “Where will this all end”!
I am affraid it will not be a pretty sight. I think American’s will be eating their pets before to long and drinking pool water or water from a nearby stream and sitting around a campfire to keep warm in their back yard. I heard that one web bot prediction was in 2013 American’s would be spending 85% of their free time growing their own food.
See how to survive the coming

As of now, the US is ranked 143 out of 148 countries in the world with private sector investments (in companies). China has a ban against the US financial markets. China is ranked #3 in the world for investments.

As of now, the Federal Reserve interest rate stand at 0% while carry traders invest elsewhere.

As of now, the weakened dollar creates a greater trade deficit with OPEC.

Nobody has talked about what pegging currencies to the USD will do to smaller countries when we cause mass inflation.

    • gary2

Ha and china is communist and usa is capitalist.

Hows that capitalism thing workin out?

  • Sid Davis

Government at the federal, state and local levels have taken increasingly more control over our personal and economic lives over the past many decades.

Could there be a correlation to the problems listed and the black hands of government? I for one think that there is not only a correlation, but a direct cause and effect relationship.

  • ken nohe

Depending who is looking at it, the glass is half full or half empty. If you have a good job, life is definitively not that bad in the US right now. Nice neighborhoods are not rundown, good restaurants and hotels are better than ever and everything is relatively cheap. Fewer people enjoy the “middle” class or upper middle class dream but why should you be concerned, there has always been people down on their luck in America, and let’s not even think about more exotic places. That’s for National Geographic once a month.

Is it worse than it was 20 years ago? From the news, it is unclear. It all depends. The trends are worrying but they’ve always been. Will the “periphery” have an impact? Possibly so but Greece is a faraway place, the Greek restaurant on main street is doing fine. There may be 2 next year actually; nothing to complain about.

Crumbling civilizations have left us few written documents. Too bad, it would be interesting to know if it always feels “so good” close to the end. Or is it just that the end is always close by for some and that however tragic, it is finally of little consequences for the rest of us? – This is a genuine question.

    • Craig

Ken Nohe, I liked your comments. I’m not much of a student of history, but haven’t all mighty nations fallen in history due to moral corruption from within? Doesn’t it have less to do with economics or aren’t econimics a secondary issue? This is the problem we have in the U.S. A lot of us don’t think there will ever be a price to pay for our sins. I say there will be a huge price to pay–it has already started. I also think we will come under the direct judgment of God since we were a nation of Christians from the beginning. God will deal with us differently. A lot of people don’t believe this.

      • ken nohe

“Moral corruption” is a value judgment. But what is certain is that our social systems become ossified over time even when flexible because people learn how to game the system faster than the system can adapt. This may be part of the problem.

      • r.bitting

But there are some of us who do Ken, Great post.

        • r.bitting

Sorry, I meant Craig ( must have had the post above yours stuck in my head! )

    • gary2

How about if your glass has fallen off the table and lays broken on the floor?

  • mondobeyondo

Your friendly federal government and mainstream news media will find a way to spin all 55 items into a “recovery”. Or a “halting recovery”. How about a “jobless recovery”? That one sounds good. Let’s go with that. It’s a jobless recovery.

Everything is going to be fine. Really! Trust us. It’s all under control! Just sit back and play with your iPad and cell phone for awhile, while we work on getting 2 million new jobs in 2012! Deficit spending will be cut! The trade deficit will be balanced! No child will be left behind!

And people actually fall for this crap they’re spewing? Man, I thought MY jokes were bad.

Um, bartender – hit me up with another cocktail! Everyone, all aboard the Crazy Train! (You don’t have a choice, really. If you live in the U.S. you’re a passenger.) The saddest part is that Ozzy Osbourne isn’t even the conductor! Ha!!

    #48 is Bad, Bad, Bad.

When your debt is greater than your GDP (English translation: your country owes more in debt than it is able to manufacture, sell and produce to pay off the debt), you are in serious trouble. In other words, you can’t climb out of the hole you’ve dug.

    • DB200

And above 120% – 140% the country will default.

      • mondobeyondo

Greece is just about there right now. Oom-pah!

      • Paul

        What happens when you default?

You can’t pay the debts. And then? Some court will order your real estate to be seized by those who are waiting for their money.

So, what is there to seize in America?

The people waiting for their money will most likely wait forever. The government will decide not to pay, and if anyone objects, they need to defeat the army first.

Then those lenders will default. And the pensioners.

After a while everything is written off and the game starts anew.

Just need to have patience, survive and reduce payments to those irresponsible debtors.

If you have no income you can’t pay income tax. If you don’t buy anything you don’t have to pay VAT. You clean someone’s basement and get a lunch. That’s the economy of the future, until all those debts are written off.

Just need to hide your food from those whith the gold who will pay an army to seize your food.

Or, you make a law to seize that gold as tax to pay the debts. (need to stop the wars first, to avoid further costs, and prosecute the warmongers)

    • Highspeedloafer

Lets hope obama doesn’t read your post, he will order 10 million new shovels to hasten our demise.

  • As always, you make a lot of good observations. But this continuous recycling of the same statistics, article after article, is getting a bit tedious.

    • Derald

On the contrary, having a review of the data occasionally is a good thing. If you were to ever enter into a conversation it is much more likely that you could recite the data accurately. Additionally, new readers of this blog start following it every day. Is it reasonable to assume that the new readers would go back and read all the entries to get the data in this one entry? Maybe so but I figure only a few of us are that ocd.

      • Alasha

Good point, Derald. And i wonder how many ppl jgouig has tried to share the tedious data with? mmm.

    • TX4Life

They say it takes hearing something multiple times to truly internalize it.

      • Michael

Yes, most people have to be taught something 7 or 8 times before they learn it.

        • Ozmo

I would suggest a person has to be exposed to information 7-8 times, being taught suggests active particpation of taking the information in upon the student.

          Just my 2 cents

        • gary2

this is why I keep saying tax the rich and spread the wealth. With conservatives being slow on the uptake I may need to keep saying this for the for seeable future.

untrue. its a mix of old and new. the way it should be. if you over load the sheeple with new facts all the time they will unlikely believe it, thanks to the MSN. unfortunately the MSN has been so successful that when i try to bring these articles up with my family they think they are “fake”. use words like treason to describe them. so much bad news that they cant be real… poor sheeple that is my family.

      • Jason

Yea i all about stopped warning my friends. Its just pointless really. Most people have been way to comfortable for way to long to believe it. But everyine i know is struggling. I know about 25 people, few have jobs but its the working to shower and sleep for work kind.

  • Nickelthrower

    These are dangerous times.

As our economy collapses, the government will no longer be able to ladle out large helpings of cash to everyone that feels entitled to receive it. The percentage of people living off of the taxpayer and the generous Chinese outnumber the productive class. Not only that, many our taxpayer funded “servants” are heavily armed and have nuclear and biological weapons. What happens when they object to cuts in pay? Worse still, what happens when economics forces them to all return back here? They have a taste for blood and would probably enjoy cracking a few skulls at home.

I don’t see any good outcomes.

  • Paul

“On average, you could buy about 10 gallons of gas for an hour of work back in the mid-90s. Today, the average hour of work will get you less than 6 gallons of gas.”

So? What mileage could you buy then and now?

Today, with a VW Golf TurboDiesel you get 60 mpg.

    • DB200

Problem is that a large part of the Americans drive SUVs and pick-up trucks doing 10 – 15 mpg. Also the avg. age is 10.6 years meaning that a lot of fuel inefficient old cars are driving around.

      • paul

So? Why blame others for your own decisions?

In some countries education is free of charge, but children and parents do not take advantage of it to get the most out of it and then blame “society” or the government if they can’t find a job, because they left school without qualification.

As a single I never owned a car, because I always moved to within walking distance of the job.

    • kingfish

I agree about the deisel,,, but why are deisels in the usa so few and far apart. I am writing this from Colombia in South America and there are deisels everywhere. Chevy and Ford make deisel S10 and Rangers for the world market but just try to buy one in the USA. There are all kinds of small deisel cars and trucks here that simply are not sold in the USA. They dont smoke any more than regular cars either. It has to be the USA goverment regulations against them,,, or maybe somebody big does not want us getting 60 mpg. kf

      • Ozmo

I think it has to do with the cost. I had to sell a deisel truck that got excellent gas milage and I made my own gas. It was going to cost way too much to get it fixed. For whatever reason it is cost prohibitive to getem fixed. Please note this was MY experience and has encouraged me not to buy deisel automotive. I would love to have one again, but just couldn’t afford to keep it running if something went wrong.

        Again Just My 2 cents

  • Paul

“Sadly, 43 percent of all American families spend more than they earn each year.”

Just like their government – Democrats and Republicans alike.

And with 57% having a different spending pattern, it means, the American Government does not represent the majority of the people.

  • Paul

“Today, 46% of all Americans carry a credit card balance from month to month.”

How many of them own a car, a mobile phone, a TV and pay phone contracts, gas and cable TV?

    • mondobeyondo

Sorry, but I can’t live without a cell phone, you say.

      OH REALLY?!!!

From 1876, when Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone, until about 1983 or so, we managed to do just fine with regular land line phones. We weren’t able to send text messages using those rotary dial phones though. Bummer! We actually had to call our girlfriends (or boyfriends) and tell them “I love you”. By VOICE! Amazing, huh? These days, I can text someone “I love you”, but I can’t say it. (That’s a joke, btw)

So, it is possible to live life without a cell phone.

A side note, and a brief observation: I saw two girls at the local McDonald’s, obviously engaged in a conversation. Talking about their boyfriends, jewelry, plans for this Friday night, etc. They were sitting less than three feet away from each other. And they were chatting away.

      On their cellphones.

      • BenjiK

I fondly remember my grandparent’s “party-line”. Imagine how the teens of today would react if they picked up the phone and found they had to wait for the neighbor to finish their call in order to use the phone.

      • paul

When I worked in China, there were those people who had a landline phone. And others who hadn’t.

Some of those who had one, took a long line to the street, and offered public phone service.
They sat there all day with their phone and any passer-by could use the phone – for a fee.

      • Esta Kandarian

I agree that cellphones are very much overused, and certainly an expensive one is unnecessary. Nevertheless, as a woman I feel safer with the $20/month cell phone I carry in my car, along with my AAA card. I sure wouldn’t want to have to get out of my car at night to go walk to the nearest phone. I don’t think there even are call boxes anymore.

      • gary2

its also possible to live life without indoor plumbing and electricty. There is this thing called progress. We no longer need to rely on the telegraph. 2012 not 1900

“Right now, the U.S. national debt is increasing by about 150 million dollars every single hour.”

How much of that money is spent on ammunition, gas and supplies for the army and navy?

When will that money ever come back?

    • U could be a half-wit

“How much of that money is spent on ammunition, gas and supplies for the army and navy?”

Which is one of the VERY FEW things this govt does that IS constitutional. However, how much do we spend supporting the sick, lame and lazy that is NOT constitutional? When are we ever getting that money back?

You’re certainly welcome to get up off your ass and volunteer to defend this country – for free too since you obviously have a problem paying for the milt.

And before you open your stupid mouth, I served 10 years AD in the USMC.

      • paul

It might be constitutional but is still wasteful.

Spending money on the sick and lame is at least Christian? And isn’t the USA god’s own country?

So, you served 10 years with the marines?

What good did the war in Vietnam do for America?
        How about Granada?

What good did it do for America to support bin Laden against the Soviet Union in their war in Afghanistan?

In the end, you served in the marines not to defend America but to make the fat cats at Lockheed, Martin, Marietta, etc. fatter.

all that money spent on ammunition went into their pockets, and is now on your bill in the form of skyrocketing government debts.

And yes, when I was young and stupid I volunteered to serve as NCO for MY country. Waste of time if you ask me.

      • Lennie Pike

You are wrong. It is UNconstitutional when the military spends money on war that has not been declared by Congress. Oh yea – these haven’t been wars.

I wonder if Congress will declare war when the NWO Nazis begin WWIII?

It really doesn’t matter anymore because the satanic psychopathic paranoid control freaks are going to do what they’re going to do anyway. A dumbed down and brainwashed world (especially “Americans”) will welcome the world government and new currency due to the fear and suffering these scumbags have intentionally created. This world government will be (is already) based on the Chinese model of fascism.

All Marines now serve these scumbags instead of the American People who are supposed to be protected by the U.S. Marines under the principles of the U.S. Constitution.

        What the hell happened?

      • Paul

The army and the navy and the USMC are living off the taxpayer.

All that equipment you see in those old warmovies and documentaries, those helicopters, gunships, guns, ammunition, mines, bombs and superbombs, trucks, tanks and hummers, ships, cruisers, destroyers, submarines, carriers, missiles, flying fortresses and super fortresses, communication equipment, kitchens, canteens, uniforms, shoes, hats, helmets, etc. etc. are sold by some companies to the government.
AND THEY MAKE A GOOD PROFIT. The longer the war takes, the more lives are lost, the more bodybags are needed, and the more profit they make.

And the government prints more money and takes out more loans and makes more debt to pay for those products whose aim is to kill, destroy and be destroyed.

The money flows to the manufacturers and directors and owners and shareholders, and is converted immediately into gold and real estate and rights to own anything.

And all those government debts are monies paid for weapons and ammunition.
Even welfare that ends up in drugs and finally in South America and Afghanistan ends eventually up with warlords buying weapons and security systems.

A new weapons system means a new war, where the old system is to be disposed of, and the new one to be tested.

And the taxpayer and his children and grandchildren and everyone coming after has to pay for it all.

      • Nexus789

Actually a lot what is being spent is unfunded – in terms of debt for wars, bailouts for the banks, etc. Welfare and other schemes are actually funded from tax revenues and are constitutional.

Maybe you should eliminate all welfare. I don’t live in the US so I don’t care. See what it would be like with 100m people with no means of support, poor food security, etc. I worked in the US a year or so ago and the place is coming apart at the seams.

Your comments about people being lazy are based on ignorance and prejudice. Historically during times of economic boom the economy always reaches near full employment. So if your ignorant assertion were correct even in times of economic boom people would deliberately make themselves idle. That never happens across all of the industrialised countries as economies tend to full employment. The truth is that there are currently not the jobs for people to fill – something that is out of control of the average person in the street.

The reality is that under the current regime those lost jobs are not coming back – they have been handed as a present to the Chinese and Indians. It has been estimated that up to 50% of all jobs in the US can be off-shored, in-sourced, out-sourced, etc, in some form or another.

  • Emily

So here’s an idea. Debt (100% across the board) forgiveness, every loan both public and privet. I can here the yelling in the background, thats not fair! Well my friends, in order to get this economy back on it’s feet, we need to get money to the small companies who actually create the jobs. If people had the money they were wasting on high interest loans back in their hands, they would use that money to build companies that employed other people. We have to rebuild this economy from the individual on up, no other means will create a foundation stable enough to turn this disaster around. You just have to get it through to your mind that life is not fair and sometimes we need to do things that make you mad in order to save us all.

    • Craig

Small companies are sending jobs to Mexico and China too. I worked at Hustler Antenna in Mineral Wells, TX, and they had started getting a lot of their manufacturing done in Mexico. This is a small company that sells mostly amateur radio vertical antennas.

When the majority of Americans wake up and chop off the head of the snakes involved in the ills plaguing American society today…

    We can heal….

    • Nexus789

Many American’s do not understand how their own political and economic system works.

The political system is owned by the lobbyists (250,000+ I believe) who are funded by faceless vested interests and the elites to gain a share of the government pie – banks, oil interests, US transnationals, media, pharma, defence and security contractors, IT industry….

The US is a ‘statist’ system whereby the political institutions are clearly owned by corporations and wealthy interests. The laws passed by Congress and the Senate are driven by these groups – reduced taxes for the wealthy, reduction in labour protection, less environmental protection, signing on to global trade agreements, freedom to move labour and capital through off shoring of US, etc.

All of the above makes the elites a truck load of money. They could have invested in manufacturing in the US, train US workers but it is easier to off shore as the margins are larger – Apple and GE are two examples of many.

They have in effect thrown the US labour pool of 150 million into a global labour pool of a couple of billion Indians, Chinese and others that will do what you do for a fraction of the pay. The only way to have avoided this would have been to invest in high tech manufacturing, training, research, etc. The US did not do this and is now de-industrailising – hence issues that are emerging.

Only when you understand the interplay between the political institutions, corporates and banking interests do you gain an insight into what is really happening.

It is manipulated system based on crony capitalism – there is no democracy and markets are manipulated – read C.W.Mills – The Power Elites (written in the early 1950’s and a good insight into how it really works).

Electing a new president is really not a choice as they all are approved by the people that really pull the strings – hence that is why Obama is notionally a Democrat but enacts policies that are really a continuation of the policies that Bush had put in place.

How many sons and daughters of Senators, or members of the House, do you see fighting in Iraq or Afghanistan?

  • joe

Clearly, you have not paid attention to the President. Gas is more expensive because the economy is booming in the USA and Europe. There is no inflation-althought that fact seems to have alluded those uneducated folks buying groceries (who must have gone to a school without union teachers). The unemployment rate is dropping rapidly. Government welfare payments have been a boom to the economy as has those unemployment checks. In fact, everything would be perfect if it weren’t for those fools in Congress and uneducated Americans who just can’t grasp the necessity for the President to become Dictator. But, don’t worry. As soon as he can regulate around the outdated constitution, you can have a seat in one of the new reeducation facilities to clear your mind and prepare you for a protective place in the collective.

A lot of the blame goes on the individual. Working class people we’re buying 400 sq/ft homes of a type that physicians afforded in the 1960s. When I grew up there were a lot of good industrial jobs but the people employed there had a 1500 sq/ft home, one relatively new lower cost car (oh my you have air conditioning) and one old pick up truck. Us kids did not hit Mom and Dad up for spending money but rater mowed lawns and shoveled snow for money; it’s called working. No kid got a new car. New to us was at least a decade old filling the gas tank and always taking a quart of motor oil too. Disney for vacation? You kidding me? Maybe if you lived in Florida. We MIGHT have got a week at the shore sharing a home with cousins putting a dozen people in the rental home. It was fun too.

Uncle Sam overspent but damn the people did too.

    • Craig

Kevin2, you’re right, but that isn’t the problem with the economy.

      • Kevin2

The root cause was the free trade agreements with the secondary problem of too much debt which masked the decline in manufacturing.

By itself free trade with slave labor nations would have buried us but unserviceable debt was a catalyst speeding up the decline.

        • Nexus789

The decline in manufacturing is a deliberate policy/strategy driven by the lowest cost input. It also saves them investing in US workers and they can exploit the wage arbitrage between US workers and elsewhere.

The profits of Apple, GE and others are really a reflection as to how much value has been ripped out the US economy and only now goes to a narrow group of executives and shareholders.

  • Thank you for being one of the VERY few out there telling the truth!

  • Note from Idaho

Our government, the politicians and many of our citizens are like the functional alcoholic, going through each day lying to themselves, another day is done, apparently with no damage done, but slowly the effects take their toll.
Like any drug user it will eventually hit bottom, then a choice is presented, recognize and admit the problem and change or continue the lying and suffer the consequences.

    What will it be?

  • mark

In #2, housing prices were way over inflated as a result of government policies demanding banks loan money to people that could not afford the loans. Real wages have not gone up for a long time in this country. So in turn housing prices must reflect the ability of the buyers to pay the loan back. Real Estate is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it and can afford. The drop in price of real estate is not the end ofthe world. Our problem stems from money being created out of thin air by the Fed and the irrational allocation of capital to so much government spending and ponzi schemes that do not invest in the creation of real wealth. Our debt fueled economy is coming to an end from over consumption of frivolous items like Ipads instead of the supply of one’s own basic needs. Take food for example, instead of earning the money and saving for a rainy day we rely the government to bail us out with food stamps. The press should pay attention to how much silly junk many of the poor purchase instead of buying with their own earned money the basic needs to survive. Things will get real ugly if food stamps and secetion 8 housing stops. The 49 million people that have come to rely on the government for food in their belly is not good.

    • Nexus789

You comment makes little sense. The government in the US did not force anyone to buy property. The inducement to buy was created by the financial services and real estate industries through collatoralised mortgage products, lax lending standards – 120%+ mortgages, no evidence of a regular income, etc. People got sucked into the illusion that property prices always rise. This was all fueled by the elimination of financial controls as a result of lobbying by the financial services industry.

The above and the availability of cheap debt was also created to mask the fact that real incomes in the US for the vast majority has been declining since the 70’s. The consumer driven debt engine is now broken and they have no answer to the problem that many Americans can now see that it was all an illusion.

  • I have noticed that there is no more reporting of the numbers of the collapsing of small banks.
Also just read an article about how the housing mkt bottomed out 2 years ago and the only way to go now is up. So all you sheep out there, it is time to jump on the bandwagon and buy a home.

    From Sam Adams

“No people will tamely surrender their Liberties, nor can any be easily subdued, when knowledge is diffused and Virtue is preserved. On the Contrary, when People are universally ignorant, and debauched in their Manners, they will sink under their own weight without the Aid of foreign Invaders.”

“The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil Constitution, are worth defending at all hazards; and it is our duty to defend them against all attacks. We have received them as a fair inheritance from our worthy ancestors: they purchased them for us with toil and danger and expense of treasure and blood, and transmitted them to us with care and diligence. It will bring an everlasting mark of infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or to be cheated out of them by the artifices of false and designing men.”

      Self inflicted then.

  • Rancher

I try to warn some and some family of the extreme threat of the rising water and repeated storms which will over take them.

Sadly they continue going on believing they can out last the floods of despair heading our collective way.

For us we have been selling off many things which have value now but will be a burden then. We can always buy it back for 10 cents on the dollar afterwards.

People.. sell off the extra vehicles, toys, ATV units and anything which requires insurance coverage. These things can be gotten again later if you really want them and can afford them.

Even if it is paid off it requires maintenance and care…so sell it and pay off your debts.

Each extra thing you justify in keeping is another heavy weight in your pocket as you tread in deep waters. Insurance drains you daily. It will not cover riots and the results of them. It might not even be in business when you need them either.

We all need to reduce the hoards of junk we surround ourselves with while we can and save the money not spend it from the sales. When it does go south only those with the cash will be able to buy you stuff if they even want to. They will give you 1/10 of what it had been worth a few months before. If that.

Live well below your means, make a rock solid budget which leaves you 5 bucks spending money per week in your pocket. Pack your lunches together at home the night before, eat at hone and make your own meals from bulk, wash out the baggies and tin foil. Stop buying any clothes, tools and supplies other than food and the daily basics. Pay off the highest interest loans first then when paid off only use the extra money to add to paying off the next highest. Learn to live that way and then only save, save, save.

Folks you will lose it all if you don’t start tossing most of it overboard now. When the floods of despair come you will be swamped and sink if you are not floating well above the waterline first.

Remember the scenes from a movie when the people in the ship/boat see the huge wave coming and the storm or are trying to out sail a danger…they begin to throw overboard all the stuff they had thought was so valuable. Stuff they had drug around with them all the way to that point. Now they throw it into the seas for a 100% loss in a vain attempt to save themselves.

    Don’t be that person….

    • mondobeyondo

But I like to ride ATV’s! I enjoy breaking both legs as my machine flips hurtling over a sand dune! The excitement! The adventure!!

No thanks. I’d rather be chased by a herd of elephants in the middle of a Kenya prairie. Now THAT’S excitement! Or imminent death, pick your choice.

    • hefsmaster

I disagree. To throw away all your stuff means no supplies to barter with. Saving your money today is stupid also. Every jar of peanut butter i bought 6 months ago is now saving me 100%… PB has been inflated far beyond everything else. Because they know PB is, was one of the best nutritional values period. Saving five bucks today means nothing if you do not turn it in for something of value. Your savings from being thrifty will result in you having nothing due to inflation. YOU will lose it all if you save it… BTW, I have used the same piece of foil for baked potatoes for 6 months and flush with a bucket…

      • Rancher

You did not read well. Stuff is NOT food. Stuff is things which you DO NOT need.

Food you need. No one is going to barter for your ATV when they can take one from the dead guys garage. Besides no gas…

People who use the barter excuse to hoard are… fools.

        • hefsmaster

Not a matter of reading… Matter of philosophical outlook… If TSHF… All money is gone…. Food and water are number one. Ability to store and protect is second. You will need far more resources than you think. The atv may me your best escape vehicle, I don’t know at this time. None of us do. But being stocked up with hardcore goods is good. Which is nothing more than the exchanging of your cash into product you need. Cash i wont accept that is.
          MY REALITY….
I have an old school with 44,000 sq. ft and 8 acres. Need A dump truck, mower, plow. Garden tools, shovels, rakes, brooms, mops. Just about one of everything from the tool dept. at your local home depot or such. Plus many duplicates over including power tools. Jack of all trades master of none. But pretty darn good at most.I need all this just to sustain personal stuff. I only stock up good useful stuff that i know will be needed by myself eventually. Now or into the future. The need is created by my desire to get as self sustainable as possible from relying on anybody else.
Trust as i say this, few have gone as overboard in getting ready for a different word as i have. I already live it. I have to fix blown pipes before i have running water. I flush with water collected from strategic holes in the roof. Get fresh water from friends for cooking. Try 15 gallons of water for 2 weeks. The idiot greeks don’t know crap about austerity…. Will be building a wood gasifier to run a generator. LOOK that up… When it all comes down… Who do you think will be standing? Those who can and do…
Your strategy is tantamount to saying, I don’t have nothing so therefore i cannot be harmed.
I say Michael should do a story on this and let the readers decide…

Wow! All of this in plain sight yet we put on the blinders and aimlessly go through the daily motions. Many of the people I know are so caught up in sports, money, or the unendless need for self satisfaction. Our politicians and public are what I imagine Rome was like in the height of their glory. As long as the people were given food, drink, and the gladiator games everyone was happy. Very few realized Rome was crumbling from within as well as on the borders. Unfortunatley, the old saying “the bigger you are the harder the fall” is true which is not the current mainstream thought of the day which is “we are too big to fail”. LOL- we will see soon!

Most of this is fairly easily explained. Since approx 1970s the USA has been run by either one of two parties both committed to Globalisation and still is. Obama is no different. The next one won’t be either. It is effectively a one party state, a rigged system, an illusion of democracy. UK is again no different. As Globalisation has impoverished the people they have had to take on more debt to maintain their living standards and the banks have been happy to help with that. The Fed has had to create more and bigger false booms to cover the damage. The USA is actually a morphing quite quickly into a fascist economic and electronic surveillance state which is using its armed forces to enable the creation of a Global corporate fascist system. How will it end?

    When was Jesus born?

    • r.bitting

The question you need to be asking is ” Why was Jesus born” and the answer to that is to take upon himself the sins of the world, so that all who would place their trust in his sacrificial death on the cross would be justified in the site of God, and then be called sons of God. ” For he made Him who knew no sin to become sin for us so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him ” 2 Corinthians 5:21.. Keep in mind though that I am not advocating “easy believism” because God asks all who would come to him to repent, After you have turned to Christ for forgiveness, you are then under the GRACE of God, and no longer held captive under the law ( see Romans ch. 5-8 & Galatians ch. 1-4, see Acts ch. 2:38 as well to better understand what transpires at the time of the New Birth as described in John ch. 3 ). It’s even worse. Of the projected jobs in the future, 40% are estimated to be low wage jobs, the sort not needing a college degree.

As Obamugabe has waged war on prosperity and success, businesses are no longer willing to risk capital in this nation as NUMEROUS CEO’s have openly said and that means thousands more who agree but are afraid of this vengeful administration. Look no further than GM, Boeing etc to understand why NO ONE should risk investing their capital in the US when the gov’t can decide at a whim to take over or negate legal business decisions or hundreds of years of contract law. The law is meaningless, and we are little more than the USSR where the gov’t takes over every successful business which has driven all their successful businesses out of their country.

Globalization, the liberal utopia, is what will destroy the manufacturing base in this country. Why pay people here quadruple or more what you could pay someone in Thailand but wothout having to deal with a union, vengeful president willing to steal your company out from under you? It’s a NO BRAINER, and any smart business person with the means would be a fool to keep those jobs here in the US out of the kindness of their heart because the GARY’S of the world would kill them and take everything they had in the blink of an eye if given the opportunity. Gun and ammo sales aren’t at record highs without reason. People see the GARY’S and understand what’s coming.

Yeah, things are getting bad. Although I enjoy this blog, I don’t have to read it to know it. My wife, father, mother-in-law and a uncle are now in the ranks of the unemployed. I live in a more or less rural area (and have lived in this area my whole life) and have repeatedly had folks at gas stations begging for money. This didn’t happen until recently but it’s happened more in the pas year than the last thirty. I can’t recall it happening prior to 08. More vacancies and house auctions than I have ever seen. I have experienced more instances of petty theft last year than all others combined although that should stop with the wife at home now. I have had folks at the corporate offices making statements about “taking advantage of these sales opportunities while we can” which hints that what, you don’t plan on being in business for too long? Recovery my ass…

Thanks again for putting it all together for us, it keeps things in perspective.. it keeps me on my knees and adding to our food storage!

Could you possible put an article together (either here or on American Dream)on the quality of life of our children (the 20 somethings and younger). I keep hearing in circles that they will be the first generation that will not do financially better than their parents and their quality of life will be much less. I do not know this is true, as I am hearing it in the acedemia circles, but I have a hunch it is! I know that I have looked, but I do not possess the talent nor resources to put this one together… maybe it will wake up the youth in this country? Thanks again for your hard work!

Although obviously most people reading this blog “get it”, this is a question to all of you because I don’t understand:

Why is Obama ahead in all of the polls although the economy is awful, there is inflation, the debt is increasing and Obama is ignoring the Constitution?

    • mondobeyondo

Because people are either ill-informed, or just plain stupid. Maybe both.

    • BenjiK

I think it boils down to little more than a “popularity contest”. Society has such a superficial and vain mentality that they would rather have Al Green renditions and a Mick Jagger sing-along than a competent leader.

    • r.bitting

Because it is God who raises up kings and removes them from power, not man. ( Dan. 2:20-21, 4:17, 5:21…. It seems like i’ve covered this before somewhere, maybe it’s just dejavue )

    • Alasha

Can you say “dumbed down”? lol it may be cruel but i really thk it is the reason – i have to fight all to time not to get “lulled” in myself.

    • Highspeedloafer

It is because they are stupid. Thats all I can think of. They are not realistic people if they think all is well or ever will be again.

    • Paul

      Everybody else is worse.

Just take the Bushes, inflating the debts out of every proportion.

They accelerated the debt train. Then Obama got into the driver’s seat. Now everybody is pointing their finger at Obama:

Look how fast he is going.
Don’t hit the brakes, you will destroy the economy!

So, whatever he does, it is his fault.

So he can do anything he wants.

    • Bill

I think there is a small amount of blind respect for any president no matter who that person may be. If you give blind respect a number of 10% then it would be more than enough to appear ahead of two otherwise equally supported candidates or even one who may have a 5% advantage. Just give two candidates a 30% support level and add 10% to the one who happens to be president. Give the president’s opponent a 5% advantage to start, add the blind respect factor and the president appears ahead.

It is easy to manipulate numbers to make a point, but I hope you understand what I mean by blind respect. Perhaps the story of the wolf in sheep’s clothing will help.

    • Lennie Pike

Obama is the most accomplished liar I have ever seen – a wolf in sheep’s clothing who has come to destroy. Only the true sheep recognize the voice of their Master.

  • Craig

How can the economy improve in the U.S. given 3 simple factors:

    1. Hundreds if not thousands of middle class jobs are still being shipped to Mexico, and China and elsewhere EVERY DAY.

    2. Thousands of Mexicans and other immigrants are pouring into our country at the rate of about 4,000 EVERY DAY.

    3. Young people are graduating from college and/or trying to enter the workforce and they can’t find jobs.

Given this, I just don’t see how there can be a economic turnaround. I think this turnaround the media is talking about could be a false turnaround.

    Girl in downtown Seattle:

    • r.bitting

Say it ain’t ( oops, sorry, there I go with my Floridian grammer again ) is’nt so Craig…The MSM would never give the illusion of a recovery if one wasn’t happening. Why, here in Orlando, folks are beating down the front doors to buy tennis shoes. Does that sound like a false turnaround to you? Sarcasm aside, You are absolutely in regard to the media spin.

And with a new show called The Chew on brainwash tv, americans can possibly be starving.

    • Paul

From whom do you buy your goods and services?

      I usually buy locally.

      There is just one snatch.

When I leave the office and go home, all locally owned shops are closed. Only the ethnic shops remain open.

      And another one:
When I work 10 hours in the office or sit in the car, my back hurts.

So AFTER work or driving I need a massage.
Then, only Chinese massage is available.

What’s the point of shops being only open when I’m in the office?

  • Rodster

    Here’s another interesting tidbit.

America’s per capita government debt is worse than that of Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Greece (PIIGS), and France.

  • Carol

People have just been blind to the truth for way too many years or should we say decades. Only God can now fix this worlds ills, no man. But people ARE in dire positions to be searching for that “MAN” that will pretend to fix, as they did with or current administration.

    • i’vegivenup

God will not intervene in this crisis. He governs by “free will” which means he allows us the freedom to think and act as we wish. It is when we die that God judges. In my opinion the greedy and corrupt are headed to the pits of hell. Many others are on the bubble and only a small number will definitely reach heaven…

    • r.bitting

Yes, I think you may be on to something here Carol. In fact I think that the bible called him the antichrist. ( I’m off to buy some Air Jordans though,so no time to go into the subject deeper ).

    • Paul

Don’t blame God for not fixing things.

God created YOU to fix things.

When do you guys think the manufacturing jobs will come back to the West? Maybe when wages are on a par with China’s? Do you think minimum wage laws will be scrapped in the years to come? Just curious what you all think.

    • mondobeyondo

      The answer is: Never.

The West has had its day in the sun. Hope you enjoy the sunset. Isn’t it beautiful?

      • Lennie Pike

That bright light is not a sunset.

    • The seeds for this will be sown quietly…

A little red flag went up in my mind a few weeks ago when Stephen Hester (CEO of RBS) turned down his bonus.

Initially I thought this was a good thing until after a bit of deeper thought. It shows that the UK government managed to enforce a paycut on moral grounds without breaking contract law. What does this say to unscrupulous employers out there? If they take a 20% paycut (bonus), they could probably on ‘moral’ grounds encourage their employees to take a paycut on moral grounds too. I wonder how many will start doing this for ‘the good of the company’.

As ever – Keep up the good work Michael

    • Paul

China doubled their minimum wages last year.

And they are continuing to rise. Companies who only pay minimum wage don’t find anyone willing to work for them.

There are millions of open positions in the Pearl River Delta.

    • Paul

Manufacturing jobs will come back, when overseas labor + transportation from there becomes more expensive than local labor + local transportation.

      So, you need
      rising oil prices
+ sustainable energy generation (PV, wind, sewage)
+ mixed commercial/housing/manufacturing/service neighborhoods to avoid unnecessary transportation
      + energy-saving housing.

Insulate those highrises in Hong Kong and you can cut down on 80% of their airconditioning, reducing inner-city heat as well.

Can do the same with all big cities like New York or New Orleans, if you want to.

This creates local jobs and keeps money inside the country.

  • NaftaVictim

Does not matter anymore. just print more money out of thin air so Joey Jobless and Wendy Welfare can support the Chinese working class by way of Wal-Mart. Everybody has money for beer and cigarettes and the Government can get tax dollars from that. The stimulus deals in 2001 and 2008 were designed for that.

  • The creation of a new government agency that will be dedicated to job creation, will only create more government jobs.

What a joke! The government can’t create jobs. Our only hope is to support small businesses, which create the majority of new jobs.

And you need to take control of your finances by getting financial education. The market is rigged against you. Your IRA and 401K are in danger of becoming worthless.

The president nor the presidential hopefuls are focusing on the economy. We are now forced to make a choice between bad, worse, and awful. How did our choices for leaders become so nightmarish? Only the citizens of this country can fix this mess. We need to make a sincere effort to learn about the problems before we can fix them. America needs to focus on how to come together for the common good. It is an enormous task but it can be done. There is a lot of anger in this country – name calling, shouting, extreme selfishness – a waste of valuable time. Strive to put aside your anger so that you can begin to find solutions (even small solutions count) to share with all the others that truly want this country to succeed. Perhaps we should put forth a People’s Candidate with a list of changes that need to be done immediately, and then we can go from there. It is obvious that none of us like what is happening. Let’s find a better way. Michael works very hard to provide us with facts, but he can’t crack our heads open and force our brains to start moving.

Let’s change tactics: look for solutions,

  • shypuffadder

I apologize for that. Let’s change tactics: look for solutions, don’t be afraid to air them, and pray that we are given the wisdom we need to make this a better country and a better planet. This country is a beacon for the world and we can’t let that slip through our fingers while we holler at each other.

“If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their Fathers conquered… I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies… The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs.”
    – Thomas Jefferson

  • Mark

Michael – I have a friend who just posted about this on Facebook. The data of this is just a bit skewed… #44 The number of Americans that are not paying federal incomes taxes is at an all-time high.

Here’s the fact – According to, there are 74,181,467 of those people who are under the age of 18. I’m just trying to make sense of all these figures. (Not just this story, but all the others that are out there.) Of the over 300 million people in the US, if almost 75 million of them are under 18, then they should be paying no – or minimal taxes on their nonexistent or menial pay. Just sayin’.

The people “behind the scenes”, who are actually calling the shots, don’t care about the people. They care about themselves and their banker and politician friends. Unless and until they are kicked out (which would be one hell of a battle, because they are dug in deep and firmly entrenched in all 3 branches – executive, legislative and judicial) – nothing will change. Regardless of whether Obama is re-elected, or a Republican candidate is elected.

To paraphrase the late, great Kurt Cobain:

“It is now their duty to completely drain you”.

The gospel of Obama is quite good. The Muslims make the best christians according to a report done by the Brookings Institute which does studies on social-economic factions. The Muslims make up the best churches. The Obama Christian Church operated by Reverend Frank Caverty who is a Muslim pastor with over 48 years experience as a Muslim Christian Pastor and originally from Mecca, Saudi Arabia. He came to America to make America christian and to help Obama become a God and Prophet.

Reading the insane, ************, religious, purely stupid comments can be immensely entertaining. But they are pretty depressing too.

Unlike a lot of the conservative commenters, I actually track down and read the source material. That’s why I really do know more than a lot of you. But I’ve also found that quoting actual facts changes none of the delusional thoughts in those pointy tin-foil heads.

Should the U.S. eventually break up into city-states, or fiefdoms, or what have you, I hope I end up with the liberals because countless studies prove they won’t be trying to shove their worldview down my throat.

    • Gary2

You got that correct! See the study from Canada proving that conservatives are not as smart as the average person.

I agree it is entertaining except that the right wing nuts are allowed to vote.

This is why I volunteer to give rides to polls , join in the OWS protests and generally do anything I can to crush conservatism.

      • Tea

And yet you don’t shove your worldviews down anyone’s throat. Ha. Ha. Ha.

Everyone in my family is conservative (except my idiot brother) and we’re smarter than most people we meet.

        • gary2

Everyone in my family is conservative (except my idiot brother) and we’re smarter than most people we meet.

you must live in the trailer park then and not meet too many smart people. No surprise there.

That’s the best you got? Wow… You people call yourselves the tolerant half of America and yet your every perception of the other side is nothing but a hateful stereotype. I was hoping for some kind of argument, but I guess that was a little unrealistic.

Tell me, when you see conservatives as a bunch of unwashed, uneducated masses, how do you reconcile that with your image of yourselves as the champions of the “common man”? It seems like the only people with whom you feel yourselves connected are the elite, the high-class, the powerful. It honestly baffles me. You consistently look down on the people you claim to stand up for.

I live in a fairly nice neighborhood, actually, and I’m college-educated. I also appear to be more literate than you. You should learn when to capitalize your letters and use commas. Have you considered homeschooling? Homeschoolers statistically test better than public schoolers. Just a thought.

        • WASHINGTON (WUSA) – A man accused of being a member of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia is back in the United States to face hostage taking and terrorism charges.

Alexander Beltran Herrera (also known as Jhon Alexander Beltrain Herrera or Rodrigo Pirinolo) was extradited from Colombia this weekend to face charges in an indictment, says U.S. Attorney Ronald C. Machen Jr. According to the U.S. attorney, the indictment names 18 members of the FARC, and charges Herrera with:

•one count of conspiracy to commit hostage taking
          •three counts of hostage taking
•one count of using and carrying a firearm during a crime of violence
•one count of conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists
•and one count of conspiracy to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization.
According to the indictment, the FARC is an armed, violent organization in Colombia that seeks to overthrow the Republic of Colombia since 1964. The FARC takes hostages to extort demands, and considers American citizens as “military targets.” Americans are victims of the FARC’s violent acts, including murders and hostage taking.

      • Tea

I have found and read the article on Canada’s study, and it rests entirely on the ludicrous assumption that (surprise!) all conservatives are racist “homophobes.” Here’s a little tidbit I found in the companion article at

“As Steven Pinker points out in The Better Angels of our Nature, his marvellous book about the history of violence, social liberalism does not equate necessarily with economic socialism. He points to a study by the economist Bryan Caplan, an economist at George Mason University in Virginia, who found that smart people tend to think like economists, being in favour of free trade, globalisation and free markets and against protectionism and state intervention in industry. This matches other findings that show that IQ correlates not with left-wing thinking as such, but with classic Enlightenment liberalism.

So a smart person (all else being equal) will probably be in favour of capitalism generally, and free-trade in particular. He or she will distrust state intervention in the markets, probably be suspicious of welfarism and deeply dislike protectionism, union closed-shops and tariffs. The smart person will believe that the have-nots should be encouraged to become haves by dint of their own labours and by the levelling of economic playing fields, NOT by taking money off the haves and giving it to them. In other words, Thatcherism. Hardly something we equate with the left.”

It’s good to know that you think the violent, property-destroying kids of OWS are representative of your intelligence, though.

        • gary2

          conservatives are racist “homophobes.”

          That’s correct thats pretty accurate

          • Tea

You just stopped reading the post right there, didn’t you?

            I guess I’ll have to write a tl;dr.

tl;dr: Capitalists are smarter than socialists.

This is why you people never reach an intelligent level of discourse. Your thinking stops at the brick wall of your ludicrous, childish stereotypes. Or maybe it’s drowned out by your endless chanting of, “WE ARE THE NINETY-NINE PERCENT.”

You call the right bigots, but you never examine your own bigotry, never notice the convenient hatred that stops you from listening to the other side. You don’t know what we stand for and why we stand for it and you don’t care, because it’s easier to say, “Lolz, teh rite is racist n h8t gays.”

            Oh, why am I bothering.

          • gary2

Tea baggers are white racsist homophobes.

            Every thinking person knows this.

          • Tea

How do you “know this”? Where does your information come from? You’ve never met a real Tea Party member. You “know this” because other socialist Occutards told you so. Do you know Herman Cain took part in the Tea Party protests? Is he a white racist?

I saw a liberal commenter use the word “n******” on a blog just this morning. Is that person tolerant? Is it okay for liberals to say “n**********” because you claim to be respecful of black people and you think your words are going to speak louder than your actions?

Do I get to call liberals racist for fabricating accusations of sexual misconduct against black conservatives? Do I get to call you a rapist because you’re an Occutard and Occutards have committed rape? Are all Occutards rapists?

Do you know that historically the Ku Klux Klan worked for Democrats and against Republicans? From Wikipedia:

“In effect, the Klan was a military force serving the interests of the Democratic party, the planter class, and all those who desired restoration of white supremacy. Its purposes were political, but political in the broadest sense, for it sought to affect power relations, both public and private, throughout Southern society. It aimed to reverse the interlocking changes sweeping over the South during Reconstruction: to destroy the Republican party’s infrastructure, undermine the Reconstruction state, reestablish control of the black labor force, and restore racial subordination in every aspect of Southern life.”

            How tolerant!

You’re not a thinking person. You go around vomiting out bigoted lies about people you don’t know, gleefully hatemongering, repeating the same insubstantial garbage you heard from others like you. You don’t think for yourself. There’s not an original thought in your brain, not one idea you formed on your own from independent fact.

Thinking people use their own brains, they don’t thump around on the crutches of someone else’s thoughts, and they don’t cling to hateful stereotypes about people who are different from them.

You’re doing exactly what you love to accuse conservatives of doing. You’re a hypocrite.

Gary, have a look at this excerpt from a Wikipedia article on gay rights in Cuba!

“Following the 1959 revolution, Cuba’s communist government embarked upon a pervasive effort to rid the nation of homosexuality, which was seen as a product of a capitalist society. Through the 1960s and 1970s this campaign included the frequent imprisonment of lesbians and gays (particularly effeminate males) without charge or trial, and confinement to forced labor camps.”

Gary, you’re a socialist, so I’m afraid I have to call you a homophobe now.

Why do you hate gay people, Gary? ):

      • Gordo

Have you reviewed the multitude (FDA and other) regulations on foodstuffs of all kinds?

I know. I know. “It’s for our own good.”

‘Good’ is defined by a set of values. The presumption that it is possible to know someone’s ‘Good’ better than they do themselves is by definition to substitute their value system for your own.

Raw milk? People have reasons for their preferences. You may not agree with them. But there you are.

And you are not alone. Sometimes isn’t eating a little ice cream, or drinking some wine, smoking some illicit substance, or engaging in risky sexual behavior – better than running that extra mile?

Why? Perhaps it is because in your VALUE judgement the psychological VALUE of ice cream will is better for your health than another mile at the track.

The point is those values are purely, wholly, and immutably subjective.

Modern liberals, in precise opposition to classical liberals, DO as an exact and precise description of factual reality, shove their world views down our throat.

If they did not, there would be no modern liberal support for things like the FDA. If they did not there could be policy objective behind the political organization other than to minimize governance. Ergo…seeking expanded government is BY DEFINITION an attempt to ‘shove one’s world view down another’s throat’ by means of legal coercion.

The classical liberal position, on the other hand, is Jeffersonian… which is to say the least possible governance.

I would add that the CONSERVATIVES ARE NO BETTER. After all, how’s that drug war going?

    • Tea

Hilarious. Liberals don’t try to shove their worldviews don’t people’s throats? Nothing could be further from the truth. There’s barely a corner of the internet not inhabited by liberals flinging their worldviews in the faces of everyone who comes by. The socialist-in-chief wants to force employers to pay for abortion-inducing drugs regardless of their religious beliefs, has no respect for what our representatives in Congress say, and wants all taxpayers to monetarily support his American socialist utopia. I’m constantly told I’m racist, sexist, homophobic, whatever, because that’s how liberals see me, and no liberal ever shuts up and listens to our side of the story. How is this not “shoving your worldview” in our faces? Seems like that’s all you liberals ever do.

I don’t care what the “studies” in your head say; my studies prove liberals shove their worldviews down people’s throats more than any other group, including Christians. After all, there’s nothing quite like total self-righteousness.

      Ignorant haters.

Hey there are a lot of new stats in there too. 🙂

And the way that most people learn is through repetition.

      • Gary2

“And the way that most people learn is through repetition.”

Which I keep saying tax the rich and spread the wealth. I will also be regularly highlighting the study from Canada proving conservatives are not as smart as the average person.

        • Theoretically if you could tax the rich more and spread the wealth amongst everyone, that does not mean that each person has the ability, skills, knowledge and drive to get the best out of their new found wealth. Which is partly why the rich are rich because they have these characteristics which they put to use.

          • gary2

they put to use buying the best government money can buy and rigging the game in their favor. If they are taxed a lot more and their wealth spread around they would have less of it (wealth) and thus less power to buy government.

        • Tea

Gary2, your “study” is total BS, and so is your knowledge of economics. If you can, read a book (I recommend Thomas Sowell’s Basic Economics) on how economic systems work. It explains everything in very simple terms so it’s easy to understand. 🙂

Government and money are far too closely entwined in our society, but the ones we should attack are in government. Attacking the employers and producers will not benefit us. When you’ve made it impossible for the “evil rich” to continue to employ and produce, who will fund your socialist utopia then? The companies where all this money comes from are already going bankrupt.

Your god, Barack Obama, is rolling in dough. If you think that will change when the economy is in government’s hands, you’re delusional. Check out the wealth of the dictators in socialist countries like Cuba and North Korea. Their people suffer in poverty.

          • Laurus

You have made many outstanding points, unfortunately truly ideologically driven liberals will never see that socialism does not, cannot and will not work. Nor can they learn from history…

Dale Carnegie taught not to play with names (now “nick’s”).

Michael is a serious guy, many read it (I’m in Brazil, I have contacts in other countries who also frequent this area, they introduced me to Michael).

Cinderella, still yawning, sleep, you do not realize the extent that the area is developing in the network.

    • Mad Max

Yes, It’s going to get much worse. We will forced to act sooner than later. It’s hard to sit around and talk while your is collapsing on top of you.

FIGHT THE CAUSE – NOT THE SYMPTOMOsiXs (Revolution 2.0 – The Smart Revolution)

  • Cinderella Man

And Gary2, You cant spell half the time, my kid brother spells better than you and he’s a millenial!!! So you should be the last person to call conservative people uneducated!!! Learn to spell do-do head!!!

    • Gary2

I know-I do not have spell checker at work as they used the crappy IE browser!

I am however smart enough to know I do not spell very well and take measures to mitigate this (IE: spell checker) when available.

      • Zen

Imagine that Gary2 sits around at work browsing the web, making comment after comment on company time and equipment and then complains about their “crappy” browser. Well that proves it, you really are a liberal. Hey Gary, don’t forget to grab a couple of pens on the way out of work, I’m sure you deserve it.

        • gary2

I am simply stating that IE is a crappy browser.

I do not get your post but that is to be expected-the study from Canada showing conservatives to not be as smart as the average person is proven true again by your disjointed post.

          • Ozmo

What Zen is saying is your crusing the net on company time, which most companies do not allow.

        • BobinTX

The funny thing is, your comments went right over Gary2’s head. So much for those “intelligent” liberals.

Maybe he own the company where he works… NOT!

    • BobinTX

Shhhhhh, don’t tell him. I’m enjoying Gary2 telling the world how much more intelligent liberals are than conservatives, in his poorly spelled and punctuated messages.

  • patriot alice

If you will vote for someone who will increase our debt, you are adding to the real problem…

  • Paul

“#37 It may be hard to believe, but the truth is that consumer debt in America has increased by a whopping 1700% since 1971.

#38 At this point, about 70 percent of all auto purchases in the United States involve an auto loan.

#39 In the United States today, 45 percent of all auto loans are made to subprime borrowers.”

This only shows that wages are not high enough to support a reasonably comfortable life.

If employers are unwilling to reduce their profits to increase wages they need to be forced by the law.

Is anyone of those low income earners willing to elect a government that pushes for such law or make it part of the constitution?

    A) The Sum of pay to upper management shall not be higher than the sum of pay to non-management personnel.
    B) If dividends exceed wages, the excess shall be seized by government and injected into charity. In addition, directors shall be fined.

    • Gary2

If employers are unwilling to reduce their profits to increase wages they need to be forced by the law.

      Join us at OWS.

Tax the greedy to help the needy!!!!!

      You are 100% correct!

      • Rodster

Well thanks for letting us know. That explains the DNC/Lib/Socialist drivel. At least that explains the stupidity in your comments. 😛

        • gary2

again your post proves the canadian study proving conservatives are not as smart as the average person.

          • GI Joe

Taking $$ from some, giving it to those who refuse to get off their a$$, off welfare, and every other Govt assist program, does nothing and helps no one! I’m not even close to rich. I spent 20 years in the Military and still have to work because I don’t want what I don’t earn. You can’t tell me the welfare system and all the other “hand out” programs aren’t broke. I was in a local grocery store getting my $15 worth of stuff and 2 morbidly obese women were racking up an over $400 order. They put a bag of dog food in with the order and the cashier told them, food stamps don’t cover dog food. The lady said, wait… exchanged the dog food for some steaks and smiled, my dog likes steaks too! What kind of crap is that??? Here’s a novel idea… make the nearly 50% of those who pay NO TAXES, pay their share. I, for one am sick of paying for those who refuse to do their share !!! …and yes, I am a conservative. I’m neither a homophobe nor am I a racist. I’m an average American with no college education who thinks if I want one, I should earn one, not expect someone to give it to me. It’s called self respect. Earn what you have and fight like hell when some Govt program tries to take it away and give it to people who won’t work. Libs won’t hear that though, it makes way too much sense!

    • Matt

“B) If dividends exceed wages, the excess shall be seized by government and injected into charity. In addition, directors shall be fined.”

I consider myself a libertarian because I’ve seen how corrupt governments can destroy freedom and an individual’s way of life. Who’s to say what defines a charitable institution? What if the govt wants to give profits confiscated from a business to an abortion clinic or ACORN, which many American’s do not support? This sounds like something that an oppressive regime like North Korea or China would suggest, not America, the home of the free and the brave.

  • melissa

I know things are not getting better i just know the people who rich only think about there self..people want to work and nothing is out there right now..if everyone would help each other out and stop thinking about there self things will be better. when u only think about your self this is the devil world…you play his games you get your way…

    • Gary2

Melissa-you are correct. The rich by and large are a selfish lot who have the best government money can buy.

They have a political party 100% devoted to their needs the republicans and a democrat partially devoted to their needs.

  • RayO

    Is that all?

  • Proftel

Have you ever done comparing the development of computers and increasing debt?

Think it was formerly used signed check to pay bills, today only a credit card.

While only role was accepted, all was well, we went to the plastic and the thing blew.

At the beginning of capitalism to accept a leverage of 3:1.

Today German banks are leveraged at 32:1.

    Banks leveraged insurers in 80:1!

    We’re fried!

    • mondobeyondo

You’re forgetting that many people don’t know the difference between “being fried” and “being freed”.

  • Karl

The nanny stae that we have created will be the downfall of our ecconomy and our country as well. I am no different that mostbut I have created my own wealth through hard work a persiverance…….The government doesn’t need anymore of my money! It’s obvious they have plenty to waste already!

    • Mad Max

Bull crap! The real Nani state was created for big corporations and banks that get free money and unfettered use of our resources and money while we get peanuts. You sir, and people like you are the real problem in this country. Don’t be a fool your whole life. You don’t have enough time. Stop pissing on yourself and the rest us.

      OsiXs (Common Sense 3.1)

    • gary2

No one, I repeate NO ONE got rich by themselves they used the common resources and need to be TAXED to pay back and provide the opportunities to the next generation.

You conservatives are so selfish–I got mine screw you. I am litterly sickened by the amount of selfishness conservatives have.

The canadian study is right on, conservatives are not too smart.

  • Karl

You think things are being shoved down your throats now?…..Wait untiul you vote for your progressive liberalism….They seem to think government has all the answers and it is so blatently obvious that they don’t by a long shot!

    • Gary2

and the private sector does??? who caused this mess in the first place??? the underegulated private sector!

    • Disappointed

Tell me about it, very scary.

  • Arctic Man

We have the FED, fractional reserve banking, and good ol’ fashioned GREED for taking down our economy. It is so blatantly now out in the open, how long are Americans going to tolerate a corrupt government in bed with big corporations? Time for a REVOLUTION

  • The problem is what do you do when so many people ignore what is going on or will not even admit it to themselves?

It’s like everyone still with a job, and still living the normal regular “modern” life does not want to know and they believe everything they hear in the news. Between the two false parties and the dialectic and the owned media, they got them coming and going. Globalization IS destroying this country and both of the parties are involved.

The problem is 99% of the populace is seduced by the circus show on TV.

  • Gary2

People-you can’t make this stuff up. The following is one of many reasons I hate conservatism and republicans morally bankrupt philosophy. It also clearly shows conservatives being so stupid as to vote against their own self interests. Who many low info dolts voted repube in Kansas? There was even a book called “Whats the matter with Kansas” trying to explain low income people voting republican and the republicans screwing them.

A Kansas House tax committee passed a bill in which anyone making less than $25,000 a year — roughly half a million of the state’s 2.9 million residents — will pay an average of $72 more in taxes, while those making more than $250,000 — about 21,000 people — will see a $1,500 cut, according to Kansas Department of Revenue estimates cited by the Kansas City Star.

    • Gary2:

How much do you get paid to spend nearly an entire afternoon posting? Is it a government job? I want one too! And, one of the accepted definitions of insanity is: Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. (The repeated reference to some Canadian study) Get to work, I’m probably paying your salary! Unless your unemployed, in which case I’m sorry. Wait a minute, that would mean I am paying your salary. Dumb conservative.

      • gary2

I work on the weekend and have off a day during the week.

  • rockclimber

I’m sorry but anyone who would yawn because of Michael’s repetitive stats sounds a bit selfish to me. I share this with many people-‘newbies’ if you will so I appreciate the repetitiveness (I too need it) of this important information. Michael’s style of writing is not like many of the egomaniacs out there in the alternative media, rather he is humble only talking about what is coming. He is a watchmen on the wall so to speak. I appreciate his hard work and spot on economic analysis that he has provided to me in the last 1/2 year.

  • Proftel
  • Goody2Shoes

Okay about conservatives, please realize that the government has no business forcing anyone to do anything other than not killing people. In a healthy economy that actually produces something, employers raise wages to be competitive with other employers so wages rise. Supply and demand works with employment too. One problem we have is that there is this notion that we are a consumer society. How do you have a “consumer” driven economy? This is not possible because someone has to produce what is consumed. Jobs like Best Buy and Walmart are two of the biggest employers in the USA, and fifty years ago it was GE and Chrysler. It is not for government to create job growth, merely to create an environment where job growth can thrive. If everyone when back to buying American made goods, if you could find them, we could pull out of a depression. But alas, hardly anyone today understands economics which is why we are in this situation in the first place. That and the fact that government is involved more that it should be and bad choices are not allowed to be punished but instead are reinforced by government policy. Please do not slander an idea different that your own because you disagree, no one is right on every subject every time.

  • Gary2

Selected comments showing republicans/conservatives are not too smart. Remember the Canada study that showed conclusively that conservatives do not have the cognitive ability of the average person (for you conservatives that means you are dumb)

Republicans are notorious for voting against their best interests, so many are low-information-single-issue voters.

If repiblicans had the ability to put themse, ves in other peoples shoes we would all be one happy family…but seeing as they cant get past that obstacle known as themselves, round and round we go…

We now have 12 years of the Bush tax cuts and deregulation. Where are the jobs?

Supply side economics is no longer a policy. It is not even a theory.

It is a debunked, failed attempt to loot the treasury and redistribute wealth from the working class to the 1% and corporations.

  • Bruce

These statistics and facts are insane. The truth is that there is not a damn thing we can do about it. The problem is just too massive. Prepare for your families and store food and weapons. Revolution will get us nowhere now that time has passed, even though I used to think it would.

  • Another good article. Repeating the stats is good, especially for those who may just have stumbled on your web site.

And, we do need to be reminded and have these stats in our face frequently. Americans tend to lose sight of history, that’s why we are in this mess.

  • Sherri0703

Liberal morons like Gary2, Sharonsj are the proof why America is in such a bad shape. Why dont you go get high school diploma and tell all your liberal buddies to do the same before you start typing non-sense. This stuff here is for adults that can at least compute 2+2=4 and not for juvenile delinquent public drop outs.

    • gary2

Another brilliant post from a conservative. NOT!!

Yep the Canadian study showing conservatives to be dumb is spot on!

      • Craig

You do nothing but state that some unreferenced Canadian study (What study?) claims that conservatives/republicans are dumb. You provide no reference to this study, I would like to read it.

However, Michael provides direct links to the resources that he used to provide the information in his article. His resources are from many different sources, including the US government itself, CNN and other news sources. Perhaps some of his references may be questionable. That, my friend, is the reason that we should all gather information from many sources and make our own decisions with regard to the validity of the information.

Where is your argument? Where is your proof references? Your repeated posts do not promote a belief that liberals are more intelligent than conservatives, quite to the contrary. Your babbling only tends to make you appear to be the proof that conservatives are more intelligent than liberal.

        • gary2

I would think you know how to google things?? My error I forgot what the Canadian study said. sorry.

Here is a link: (from another poster above)

          So right-wingers are stupid – it’s official

        • gary2

here is a copy paste of a prior post AT THE BEGINING OF THIS BLOG that you obviously did not read. You are doing a good job of proving the study from Canada correct.

  • John The Liberal Thinker

Hey Gary! I too am a liberal, and proud of it. But your own intelligence leaves much to be desired. Making the statement that you are trying to crush conservatism is nothing less than defeating your own argument that us liberals are so high and mighty as to never assume to shove our world-view down another’s throat. Stupid, intolerant liberals like you make the rest of us free-thinking and tolerant liberals look bad. Try a different pair of shoes because the ones you are currently wearing make you seem much taller than you really are. Also, please try thinking a little more critically for yourself. Hang out with real free-thinking liberals more, and do less crowd following. Just some friendly advice.

    • gary2

I want to crush conservatism because their policies hurt so many people. You can not neogiate with a concerous tumor you simply need to cut it out.

    • gary2

Look I appreciate the advice, however, I am not all talk and little action. (like Obama) I actually do the leg work to take folks to the polls (and they are not voting conservative), participate in protests and actually try to change things and not just talk about changing things. I knock on so many doors my knuckles are red and I am not the only one who does this. Have some passion! I am not some ivy league liberal who sips latte at starbucks while complaining about the horrors of conservatism.

I have no time for liberals who just talk.

  • Lilia

This is my response to the communist puke that calls himself Gary2.
The reason I called you communist puke is because when I hear communist rhetoric I recognize it. I recognize the rhetoric I heard for 30 years of my life in Soviet Union before I came to US at the beginning of the century. It is breaking my heart to see that communist plague is so widespread in America since the communists infested your colleges in the 60s, because that is how they avoided being sent to Vietnam. Every time I listen to a democrat it feels like déjà vu all over again for me – I feel like I am back in USSR.
You, liberal idiot, call conservatives stupid? But they are the ones who have college degrees, are creative and industrious. Their hard work made them rich. Apparently you are too stupid to understand that. You are saying that your ideas will make all people prosperous – HOW? Your ideas didn’t work in USSR, Poland, Romania, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Eastern Germany, Hungary, Mongolia, North Korea, China, and Cuba. They also failed in Panama, Honduras, Guatemala… They are failing in Venezuela. Don’t you know that everybody was poor there? There was not enough food, clothing, products, and freedom. Do you know who had all that stuff? – our dear leaders – the very ones that screamed very loudly that they were for the working class.
Here is a lesson for you, liar – The louder someone screams he/she is for the working class, should be trusted the least. As soon as communists (the ultimate liberals) understood that they are not able to create a prosperous economy, they made sure they secured the public trough for themselves – they had all the guns – kind of, like the current White House occupants. People are out of jobs, losing their homes – the country is on fire – and our dear president is partying and golfing nonstop, campaigning nonstop on taxpayers’ money, spending millions of our money on vacations; his wife is buying expensive clothing, vodka, and massages, while people can’t afford milk and bread. I am disgusted by this administration just like I was disgusted by the soviet pigs.
Here is a vivid example of “working class support” lie. During Katrina many people ended up on ruffs calling for help, and a lot of them were black. One of their congressmen used National Guard to tow personal stuff from his flooded home, while people he “served” needed National Guard’s help more than him. Well, guess who was that congressman? – William J. Jefferson – democrat, and black – he didn’t give a damn about his poor fellow citizens, even about those who were the same color as he. I suspect he was transferring the cash from his freezer in Louisiana to the freezer in Washington DC, where later he was caught with 90000$, and now he is where he belongs – in jail. 70% of the congressmen in the book “Throw them all out” by Peter Schweizer that talks about insider trading in congress are democrats. So, don’t lie through your teeth that democrats like poor people more than money. Wake up idiot, or better said liar, because you are also for your own pocket, and don’t give a damn about anybody else in this world.
Liberal degenerates like you are not only stupid; they are also dangerous to humanity. You, liberals, are the most uncompromising beings on earth, and boy oh boy, the soviets proved it. They didn’t just shut everybody up who was against their idea, they killed by millions. Every country I enumerated above, where the liberal communist lunacy attempted to be implemented, committed despicable atrocities against their most productive part of the population. And let me tell you, it started with the very rich, and ended with families of 8-10 people that had a cow, a horse, a plow, some goats, and all worked their butts off on their piece of land – THESE kind of families were called rich, sent to Siberia and mercilessly destroyed by communist spawn like you.
Honest capitalism is quite fine. What is unforgivably wrong is crony capitalism in bed with corrupt politicians in both parties. You must be a complete idiot to accuse only the financial institutions in causing the meltdown, but forget about the rotten government. You wrote that financial institutions are under regulated. How do you like the government regulation that forced banks to give loans to people that couldn’t pay back? One word – moron. The cronies and the corrupt are destroying our lives.
Why don’t you turn you attention to the crony billionaires like Soros and Buffet, millionaires, liberal Hollywood stars – these phonies that supposedly worry about the poor. Maybe they should show personal example and give up their billions and millions to the poor. How dare they keep their money when so many people are suffering in their own country and around the world? How do you like this liberal rhetoric, you, red moron? I know that in your deranged mind it’s ok for liberals to have money but anyone else. If you stuff you phony faces like the soviet criminals it’s all right, while hardworking people are supporting parasites like you. Soros now days is a frequent guest in the White House; this criminal SOB is writing our energy policies and takes advantage of them. He is the reason my young family woke up one day in the 90s with only 4 rubles in our account instead of 4000 rubles. He crashed currencies in many countries; put his cronies in different levels of government there, and went in and purchased for nothing assets and property enriching his liberal criminal pocket. Soros and this kind of people in Obama’s administration are robbing and destroying this country right in front of our eyes. In my personal view Soros must be tried in the international court for his criminal economic activities.
You say conservatives are stupid. Let me tell you that Liberalism is a Mental Disorder. The Canadian research is such a fraud. You should be embarrassed even to quote it – but you have a liberal mental disorder; what else can be said.
If communist Obama gets a second term he will be eating lobster and you will be eating gruel, if you are lucky. Let me tell you, social justice (socialism, communism (by the way to your knowledge communism has never been built, because their economy that produced insufficient crappy products couldn’t satisfy the communist motto “from everybody according to their abilities, to everybody according to their needs”; the stage that USSR was in when it collapsed was called by the degenerate communists “developed socialism”, and the motto was “from everybody according to their abilities, to everybody according to their work” which also was BS, because they couldn’t implement it too)) will not “kill” you; it will make your life very, very miserable. And hardworking, creative, and smart conservative people that have their guns will survive, unlike parasites like you. And I hope they will not help degenerates like you, because you must crawl under your communist stone and perish like a cockroach – let mother earth get rid of you.
Let me also tell you what kind of work ethic your social justice creates. In USSR many workers stole – yeah, that was the work ethic that wonderful socialism created. People were starving, couldn’t buy decent clothes, cars, refrigerators …. nothing. They stole products to barter them at the flea markets so they could feed their families – that is the reality that communists created for us. “Little people stole little things, big people stole big things.” Simple workers stole food, bolts, and nuts. The ones in charge of soviet plants and institutions stole money, and were at the distributing trough of goods that rarely got to the stores to the proletariat that was told that it was “in charge” of the country. You can see a good example of social justice work ethic coming our way here, if the unions are not put in their proper place. Chrysler autoworkers smoke pot and drink on their lunch breaks. Then they go and continue to build the cars that the rest of us have to drive our families in. And you can’t fire them.
Liberals, you are demented and dangerous. You don’t know and don’t want to learn what your ideas can do to people, societies, and countries. Conservatives, fight this corrupt ideology. Communism and Nazism (National Socialism) come from the same cesspool – the cesspool of social justice that brought to the world nothing but tragedy.

    • gary2

lilla you proved my point perfectly- if you do not understand something call it communism. Typical of low information people.

No one is advocating communism and its hard to believe you don’t get this.

We need to moderate capitalism with a big dose of socialism. capitalism may be good at generating wealth but it is horrible at distributing it. We need to be more like Norway etc.

I have never said I want communism and I do not want it.

I do get that your world view is colored by your past. Understandable. Not everyone who advocates a broader prosperity for the most people wants communism.

I normally would bnot dignify your nonsencical post with a repsonse but due to your past experience with the USSR I wanted to point out the error of your thinking. Let me repeat for the conservatives who don’t get things the first time. No one I know or associatye with has EVER said they wanted communism, never, and I know some real liberal folks that make me look moderate.

      • GI Joe

Did you even bother to read the post you are criticizing? That was from EXPERIENCE, not a made up fairy tail. What does it take to open your eyes????

        • whonose

I think his eyes are open. I think the problem is his head is up his ass. His attempt at deflection was lame, Lila obviously understands what’s happening much better than he and ripped him a new one. In true liberal fashion, he tries to make it appear that she knows nothing and he knows all, he is the enlightened one. Sounds like obama.

          • anon

I agree with gary2. Capitalism with a dose of socialism or even vice versa is much better than either one individually. This is a common academic vs practicality contention. Academics build theories – they are useful, but not in themselves. They need to be extended, and evolved.

Also, I dont find gary2’s comments to be communist at all.

The right answer is a right mix of multiple political theories – views differ as to what should be applied in which situation, but then that’s economics – and the Unpredictable – the future.

Going off on a tangent, it is never right sacrifice stability for growth, and that is what the highly capitalistic American economy is doing. If only America could maintain more stability and reduce volatiliy (and by volatiliy, I mean the extent of bull and bear markets – the prosperous times and the recessions), life would be much simpler and better.

  • Imm

I can’t believe that you think that an idealogy can predict the intelligence level of a human guys must have some really good drugs

  • John The Liberal Thinker

In the upper echelons of human understanding, it is well known that smart and intelligent are two very different thing.

  • Just Me

I don’t care what what side of politics your in bed with, Libs or Conservs. I’m on neither, they are all the same, greedy, lying, arrogant, pompus, self serving. Wake up people and smell “it”. It doesn’t matter whose in charge anymore and it probably never did. Your a fool to think otherwise. Seriously people, take the blinders off, get the forest and trees sorted out and get ready. Tunnel vision never works for anyone.

  • Lilia

Sir, you are obviously mentally challenged. You are unable to comprehend that I don’t need to be informed by you or your liberal colleges to understand liberalism – I LIVED THE LIFE YOU ARE PROPAGANDIZING; I felt the results of liberalism on my own skin. You nincompoop, don’t know anything about real life.
If the mother of learning is repetition, then let’s repeat it for you. LIBERALISM has many ugly names and forms: liberalism, progressivism, socialism, National Socialism (Nazism), Fabian socialism, Marxism, Leninism, fascism, and finally the last but not least communism. They all are basically synonyms; they have the same evil root. Regardless of the term you use, you bring the same results to humanity – suffering, misery, destruction of economy and people’s souls. When I hear what liberals say here in US, it is exactly identical (word to word) to what communists told me all my life in USSR. Greece was not lead by communists, but the results of the liberal governing are exactly the same as in Soviet Union. It doesn’t matter what form of liberalism you try and in what dosage, you always end up in the same place – poverty.
Don’t you see what your ideology does to people? It destroys our ability and responsibility to take care of ourselves. It trains us to be helpless like chicks waiting for the government to drop regurgitated food in our beaks. People are trained not to take care of their retirement. In US many people count on social security as the only retirement income. The Greeks were promised retirement at 50 years old. Who did they think was able to support them for many years while they would take sun baths on their beautiful beaches? Look at them now. They are pathetically weak: suicide rate went up – they are killing themselves. They got brain damaged by liberal ideas – after all, you can’t live liberally on someone else’s back. In your midget mind you think you can build perfect liberalism. Former eastern socialist countries and current western socialist countries of the European Union are live proof – Liberalism can’t be built in any shape or form. It bankrupts countries and destroys the humanity of its citizens: it destroys people’s morality, pride, creativity, civility, decency…………………
Do you know what else is characteristic in a society built by liberals? Charity and volunteers are absent. People are forced to live in such conditions where they are busy just surviving, fighting for their basic needs. Forget about having high morals, compassion, and basic civility. Because, you see, when government grabs and controls everything, it becomes collective – things belong to everybody or better said to nobody. And when it’s nobody’s, it is treated accordingly – people become mere animals with everything that surrounds them except their own belongings. Here is an excellent example from the socialist (liberal) Soviet Union; take note – not communist, but socialist, because, I remind, the deranged communists (the ultimate liberals) that lead the country could NOT build communism – it is an Utopia, and never can be built. As soon as you stepped out of any apartment it was a different world – a nasty, dirty world with almost no lights and bad smells. The staircases and elevators in the apartment buildings were trashed just like the government housing in US. People defecated and urinated in the elevators and staircases that would be used in the next minute by their own neighbors or other human beings. Wait a minute, where did I hear about defecating lately – yeah, the occupy Wall Street liberals – defecation, rape, murder, child abandonment – and this is the liberal cream of the society. This is the face of liberalism you are advocating. I feel sorry and angry into what people were transformed in the block of former socialist (liberal) countries and are being transformed currently in the socialist (liberal) European Union.
Take also note that there was not one arrest at the conservative gatherings – none. Isn’t it strange that “stupid” conservatives at their meetings don’t destroy things, don’t defecate on police cars, don’t rape, don’t kill other people, and don’t abandon their children?
Let me post these rhetorical questions. How does anybody in US vote for democrats? How do black people vote for them? How does anybody believe any word that comes out of democrats’ mouths? I am still learning about US history, and some things are appalling. Democratic Party is the party of the former slave drivers. Democrats created Ku Klux Klan; democrats lynched black people in the south; democrats kept in its party and senate Ku Klux Klan member Robert Byrd until he kicked the bucket in 2010 at age 92. Margaret Sanger propelled abortion movement as “Negro Project” – a way to get rid of black population and other unwanted layers of society. She spoke in front of democratic Ku Klux Klan women’s groups. If I remember correctly the number, 16 million black babies exterminated through abortion; poverty in black communities is worse than ever, and black people still vote democrat – it’s a mystery. Every time horrible things happened to US citizens it was a democrat in charge of the country. At the beginning of the 20th century segregation in government was implemented by democratic (progressive, deranged liberal) President Woodrow Wilson who said that you can catch diseases from black people. He also imprisoned American citizens of German decent during World War I (for just playing Mozart in public.) Another democratic president Franklin Roosevelt imprisoned American citizens of German, Italian and Japanese decent during World War II. This liberal lunatic envied Stalin for his power over the soviet economy. (Here is another little dirty secret about the soviet SOCIALIST economy – the unhinged soviet liberals (communists) built their first soviet economic accomplishments on the blood of political prisoners. Millions died building their first hydro-electric power plants and cutting down trees in Siberia. And by the way, the rest of the working class was also basically enslaved. At the dawn of the soviet hell communists changed their minds for a while and implemented a NEP (new economical politics) that allowed the capitalist economical principals work (like China is doing now.) People started working and producing like before the dreaded revolution and gain wealth again. But it was shut down quickly, because liberals can’t stand people becoming wealthy – everybody has to be equally poor. Communist morons would meet every five years for their “five year plan (pyatiletka) congress” and bitch about low productivity in USSR. Yeah, they couldn’t figure out why the enslaved working class can’t and doesn’t want to be productive. Apparently miserable salaries and communist mottos (like “workers of the world unite”, or “glory to the communist party”) thrown at them didn’t do the trick.) On the other side Republicans freed the slaves. Martin Luther King was a Republican. How do you even associate with the name of the Democratic Party? There is only one answer – liberalism is a mental disorder.
Don’t bother to answer. I am quite busy, unlike you. I just got infuriated at you, demented liberal, when accidentally read the comments to the article, which I usually don’t do. I have had enough of liberal propaganda in my life. Take your own advice, and go INFORM yourself. Or, better, go and live in socialist (liberal) European Union or former socialist (liberal) block countries, and learn the results of liberalism first hand. Liberals, one more advice: if the professor in the White House that mingled with other Marxist professors at American universities, as he wrote in his book, is elected for a second term, start learning how to can food and mend socks and underwear. You won’t have the luxury to just throw away the old ones and buy new. You will be wearing your clothes until they look like a colander – another “pleasant” liberal reality. Liberals, don’t destroy your country. Go away, go somewhere (maybe to North Korea), and perish in the dust of history.

just because you label democrats/liberals communists does not mean they are communists.

I am sorry for your experiences in the past, however, I nor anyone I know ever advocated communism.

I look at #36, and think… imagine if barry had taken his failed stimulus, which was about the same amount, and instead of using it as a slush fund for all his rich cronies, he could have paid off the credit card debt of every American.

“#36 Overall, Americans are carrying a grand total of $798 billion in credit card debt. If you were alive when Jesus was born and you spent a million dollars every single day since then, you still would not have spent $798 billion by now.”

From what I was told recently, the prophetic news seems to correspond in some form to the police reports in local neighborhoods. Due to the bad economy, crime is up and God is the only one that can give people some peace of mind, according to some Bible scholors. Don’t you agree? As a metaphor: The puzzle seems to come together in 3D!

  • Curiosity Good For The Cat

One piece of good news is that president Obama is making plans to “jumpstart” our economy but some are saying “Yeah Right” to this proposal. The democrats are quite enthusiastic about Obama’s campaign but the republicans are saying that “he is talking politics in his own right” which is a rather subtle but somewhat facetious way of criticizing the veracity of his words. The real motif is within the person but let the charade play out until the mood gets somber. That way, reality will bite. The old southern limerick, “It ain’t over until the fat lady sings” and that principle is being applied today.

  • Do Your Crying In Spanish Or French, Good Call!

So much talk on moving to a foreign country to escape the mayhem of this bad economy may be a cartoon commercial if you will but dealing with issues on the surface is the most prudent because the emotions are the epitomy of our personal wellbeing. We are entering into a timeperiod where circumstances will test our fortitude and patience. According to some, few will make it through the dark tunnel, so to speak. We are already in an ARMAGEDDON: The Economy. The most stable recipient takes one step at a time because conditions vary in scope. Predicting the future will make us crazy anyway, so let life be a mystery until death do us part!

  • LINTHICUM, Md. (WUSA) — An interesting twist and tale of events recently and involving the enlisting of al-Qaeda operatives in these events but in this case, a man has been arrested after allegedly shooting a woman at a home in Linthicum during an argument in which the man tried to get the woman involved in a conspiracy to carry out some terrorist related crime and the woman refused and that is when things got violent.
Anne Arundel County Police say that officers were called out to a home at approximately 11:23 p.m. Thursday for a domestic-related shooting. There, a woman suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to her lower torso indicated that her “ex” shot her due to an argument in which her former companion wanted her to help him get some phone numbers of some al-Qaeda terrorists overseas in the areas of Afghanistan and Pakistan so that he can call them and that he can get the woman to accompany him in his plan to hire the al-Qaeda operatives to carry out “another 9-11” so that he can “end the world before December 21st of this year, cause the economy sucks and I hate America” and afterwards, the perpetrator fled the home.

Current Events & Trends: How high could gas prices rise?

article by Jerold Aust, John Ross Schroeder of The Obama Christian Church Worldwide:
Nations can and do use oil as a weapon.
The head of Iran’s state oil company said Sunday that the price of crude will reach $120 to $150 per barrel, as officials in Tehran prepare to discuss a ban on crude sales to European Union countries in retaliation for an EU embargo . . . [Iran] says the embargo will hurt the West more than Iran, in part by causing a spike in prices” (“Iran Oil Official Says Crude Could Reach $120 to $150 Per Barrel, Downplays EU Embargo,” The Washington Post, Jan. 29, 2012).
Currently, the lowest price of gas in the United States is around $3.00 per gallon, far lower than in most of the rest of the world. Could $4.00 a gallon—or even higher—become the new U.S. norm?
Nations can and do use oil as a weapon. If oil sold for $150 a barrel, the price of gas would jump to about $4.30 per gallon. How many can afford to fill their tanks at that price? And how would this affect the price of everything else—including essential foods and basic needs—that must be transported by vehicles also burning higher-priced fuel?
Much of the world is already skirting the edge of the abyss financially. More economic disruption could lead to increasing international conflicts and the rise of dictatorships not unlike what preceded World War II in which this will lead to more crime and terrorism. Already, according to local police reports and from the FBI, gas station murders and robberies are on the rise, looting and rioting in local neighborhoods such as trashcans being knocked over along with street signs being tossed in the trash, kidnappings and other crime going on. There will be a time when police will give up and leave the area leaving residents in peril and that is when many elderly will soon commit suicide to escape the mayhem in the neighborhoods, henceforth, the Great Tribulation Period in full swing.

  • The Gospels Of Obama And Christ

Ever Increasing Crime Will It Ever End

article by Graemme Marshall of The Obama Christian Church Worldwide:
“Make a chain, for the land is filled with crimes of blood, and the city is full of violence” (Ezekiel 7:23Make a chain: for the land is full of bloody crimes, and the city is full of violence.
See All…). Must we accept crime as a way of life? Why aren’t prisons solving it, and is there anything we can do about it personally?
The above statement voiced by God through Ezekiel suggests the need to prepare more chains for imprisonment, because of increasing crime. It shows ancient Israel awash with violence. Are we any different today? The sobering facts about widespread crime in North America show that Ezekiel’s message is still applicable but with president Obama being Lord of America and ruling the world under God’s order, peace will come and crime will stop.
The total number of prisoners in the United States increased from 319,000 in 1980 to 1.3 million in 1999. Another 523,000 people were also in jail. This translates into 1 in every 150 Americans being in prison or jail. This is disturbing for a society perceived as law abiding and which inscribes its currency with “In God We Trust.” Crime and a godly society are not compatible but Obama will be Lord and will work with Christ to restore order.

  • Another Idiot

I see a significant amount of banter between the left and the right but that’s all there is – argument. The problem with this country is that’s it truly is becoming ‘every man for himself’. Where in the hell is compromise? Where the hell is true concern for your fellow human. I’ll be on the floor laughing at you all when it finally hits the fan – and it will hit the fan shortly. Everyone wants to blame whomever is President or the Senators or the House Reps -anyone but themselves! We, as the human race, have lost sight of (maybe never had it to begin with) what is really important in life – putting aside differences to make a better life for all. You guys can blame everyone else if you want but it’s really our faults. Until the general population accepts the responsibility, admits our blame and realizes that good ole American greed is the root of our problems nothing will improve. Each generation passes down a little more greed driven behavior – our children feel ‘entitled’ to whatever they want. I see it every day. I really am embarrassed to be human…

Interesting article about the changing global economy. I sure wish that we could stop name calling and finger pointing, and yes I mean both Republicans and Democrats. It is futile and keeps us from making the most out of the opportunities that our place of birth gives us, regardless of our class.

Why waste your time calling each other names and blaming Obama or anyone else. We all need to take responsibility, that is democracy, participate or give your power away, the responsbility is nontransferable. We are truly missing the forrest for the trees, and hurting ourselves while we do.

Welcome to the new global economy, it has been growing for generations and prepare for it to continue to accelerate. Why do we not rate our politicians as we rate employees. If employers were as divided as we are politically, no company could succeed.

No one is going to get it all right, but we owe it to ourselves to look for truth and find an answer to the mess that WE made.

The USA has been headed down this path for a long time, much longer than obama’s disaster of a presidency. Lets be honest, the president has very little real power to affect social change. The real cause of all the rot in our society is, has been, and will continue to be the poor quality of education our children receive. Most schools, both public and private, focus on teaching children what to think, rather than how to think. Entire generations of children have grown up knowing next to nothing about history, next to nothing about economics, and next to nothing about real philosophy. Is it any wonder then that as adults these poor people have no ability to judge between truth and attractive lies that tug at their heart strings?
Obama is a tool, Romney looks like he’s all set to be little better…but that makes little difference. Real reform will only begin when the teachers union is abolished, the idea of “higher education” is drastically altered to remove the idiocy of such fields as womans studies, african american studies, and other such garbage. Make the society stronger through education and traditional western values, and the economy will follow. Sadly, the opposite is true as well.

The current major global shift is that world oil production has, or is about to peak, and will begin or perhaps already has begun to decline, as world energy, and particularly petroleum, use continues to increase.

#9 is a typical example of half-truths being used to manipulate perception. The one key word that people overlook is “long term”. OF COURSE there are more long term unemployed now because these people had JUST lost their jobs at the beginning of the economic crisis. A more accurate comparison is to simply compare raw unemployment numbers.

We can start by dismantling the Federal Reserve so as to get out of the grip of this private institution that is chocking all of America. The banks should be regulated and controlled. The banking system in this country needs a complete overhaul, they should not be able to call the shots without a supervisory oversight. Maybe then we would see the first signs of change.

  • Tia

The bankers in the united states put everyone in this positon and inflicted the global economic crisis upon the world. Then they borrow billions from China to bail out the very people who put them there the fist place. Americans need to wake up and fix their banking system. you all should watch the documentary called inside job. VERY interesting facts. Should be looking at your kind neighbours to the North and following their banking system which is the best in the world. The biggest problmem that we have today is too many individuals want government entitlements without doing the work. The value system work model no longer works. The model today is based on how much of an entitlemenent can I get for doing nothing. Everyone is gaming the system which of course includes the Federal Government. The only value that I have is my vote in November, after that, I have no value to any of the politicians.

I never thought in my wildest dreams that I ever see a revolution in this great Country. Well, I can honestly say it is coming, so you better protect yourself, and under no certain terms can you rely on the goverhemt to help get through it. Our government system and process is flawed and too corrupt to deal with the civil unrest that is goint to be unleased on all Americans. God help us all! Just… Wow! A country I once admired back when I was a kid in Asia…. I was so glad when I got here. Only problem was, Obama just got elected president at the time….

I wonder how hard it would be to be self employed in today’s economy. Employers are moving jobs overseas, the government is destroying any opportunity to make good money and succeed, and the opportunity that America once provided is very hard to find now.

Time to depend on myself. If this country does not want to provide the opportunities for its people, I’m creating the opportunity, for me to succeed, myself.

Hopefully the knowledge I have gained from rwading numerous books on programming, web design, and business, as a kid, will give me a good foundation.

We buy most of our manufactured goods from China now (THANKS WAL-MART!) for the same reason. People we all control this country together, every day With those little green pieces of paper we all carry (Or USED TO BEFORE DEBIT CARDS). We started this mess and then allowed our government to sell our country right out from under our own feet. It’s time for America to get involved again. It’s time for us to care! Everyone on the block back in the 50’s KNEW what thier representatives stood for. Do you?
