8 Economic Threats That We Were Not Even Talking About At The Beginning Of The Summer

Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Google+Share on LinkedInShare on StumbleUponEmail this to someone

In the crazy times in which we live, it helps to expect the unexpected.  Sometimes you can think that you have it all figured out and then this world can throw a real curveball at you. Very few people anticipated that we would see a massive outbreak of the West Nile Virus in Texas this year or that the Mississippi River would be in danger of drying up after experiencing historic flooding last year.  Who would have thought that we would see the worst drought in more than 50 years or that horrific wildfires would burn nearly 7 million acres of land?  This is why economic conditions are always so hard to predict.  A single “black swan event” can come along and change everything almost overnight.  Our world has become incredibly unstable, and so who really knows what the rest of 2012 will bring?  Will we see a stock market crash?  Will the hurricane season be unusually bad?  Will war erupt in the Middle East?  Will we see a major earthquake on the west coast or even a volcanic eruption?  Will the upcoming election cause an eruption of anger and frustration in America?  We don’t know the answers to those questions yet, and the truth is that we will probably see some things happen that very few of us are anticipating at this point.

This is an exciting time to be a “news junkie”, but unfortunately the vast majority of the news these days is bad.

It is almost as if a “perfect storm” is developing.  Our weather is going crazy, our financial system is on the verge of collapse, our politicians seem more insane than ever, there is evidence of social decay all around us and the drumbeats of war in the Middle East grow louder with each passing day.

As strange as 2012 has been so far, I fear that things are about to get a whole lot stranger.

Not that we haven’t had some very unanticipated events happen this year up to this point.

The following are 8 economic threats that we were not even talking about at the beginning of the summer….

#1 West Nile Virus

What is up with all of the strange disease outbreaks that we have seen so far this year?

Flesh eating disease and the bird flu have both been making global headlines this summer, but in the U.S. right now it is the West Nile Virus that is getting the most attention.

So far more than 1,100 cases of the West Nile Virus have been diagnosed in the United States and more than 41 people have died from it.

More than half of the cases so far have been in Texas, but we have also seen people come down with West Nile Virus in Mississippi, Louisiana, South Dakota, and Oklahoma.

If you live in any of those areas, you might want to do your best to avoid mosquitos for the rest of the summer.

#2 Historic Drought

This summer, the United States has experienced the worst drought that it has seen in more than 50 years.

This weather has been absolutely crippling for farmers and ranchers all over the nation.  As I wrote about the other day, about half of all corn being grown in the U.S. is currently either in “poor” or “very poor” condition.

As the drought has dragged on, many farmers and ranchers have become increasingly desperate.  In fact, one farmer has even been feeding his cows candy in an attempt to deal with rising feed prices.

Needless to say, this drought has been causing commodity prices to soar.

On Tuesday, the price of corn closed at a record $8.38 a bushel, and the price of soybeans closed at $17.30 a bushel.

#3 The Mississippi River Is Drying Up

Thanks to this drought, rivers and lakes all over the United States are drying up.  In fact, there have been reports that millions of fish have been dying because water levels have gotten so low in many areas.

Even the mighty Mississippi River has dropped to dangerously low levels.

At this point, the Mississippi is lower than most people living along the river can ever remember.  If it drops much lower, it could potentially have an absolutely devastating impact on the U.S. economy.

A recent NBC News report described what is at stake….

About $180 billion worth of goods move up and down the river on barges, 500 million tons of the basic ingredients for much of the U.S. economy, according to the American Waterways Operators, a trade group. It carries 60 percent of the nation’s grain, 22 percent of the oil and gas and 20 percent of the coal, according to American Waterways Operators. It would take 60 trailer trucks to carry the cargo in just one barge, 144 18-wheeler tankers to carry the oil and gas in one petroleum barge.

If all traffic along the Mississippi was forced to stop, it is estimated that it would cost the U.S. economy about 300 million dollars a day.

And already there have been stoppages along one 11 mile stretch of the river….

Nearly 100 boats and barges were waiting for passage Monday along an 11-mile stretch of the Mississippi River that has been closed because of low water levels, the U.S. Coast Guard said. New Orleans-based Coast Guard spokesman Ryan Tippets said the stretch of river near Greenville, Miss., has been closed intermittently since Aug. 11, when a vessel ran aground.

So what happens if the Mississippi gets even lower?

#4 Wildfires

The extreme heat has also been responsible for the horrific outbreak of wildfires that we have seen in the western United States this year.

So far in 2012, nearly 7 million acres have been burned up.

That is an area about as big as the states of Maryland and Delaware combined.

#5 The Global Elite Hoarding Gold

In the past, the global elite and the mainstream media would mock those who are hoarding gold in anticipation of a major financial collapse.

But now it is the global elite who are hoarding gold.

In a previous article, I discussed how men such as George Soros and John Paulson are investing mind-boggling amounts of money in gold right now.  The amount of money that these two individuals are investing in gold is difficult to comprehend….

There was also news last week in an SEC filing that both George Soros and John Paulson had increased their investment in SPDR Gold Trust, the world’s largest publicly traded physical gold exchange traded fund (ETF).

Mr Soros upped his stake in the ETF to 884,400 shares from 319,550 and Mr Paulson bought 4.53m shares, bringing his stake to 21.3m.

At the current price of about $156 a share, these are new investments of about $88m of Mr Soros’ cash and more than $700m from Mr Paulson’s funds. These are significant positions.

Combined, Soros and Paulson dumped more than three quarters of a billion dollars into gold during the second quarter of 2012 alone.

So what are they anticipating?

The central banks of the world have been very busy hoarding gold as well.  According to the World Gold Council, global central banks were net buyers of 157.5 metric tons of gold during the second quarter of 2012.

Over the past 20 years there has never been a time when global central banks have accumulated that much gold during a single quarter.

So just what in the world is going on?

#6 Recession In The UK

Everyone knew that Greece was in deep trouble.

And everyone knew that Italy and Spain were in deep trouble.

But it was a surprise to see the UK economy plunge deep into recession.  During the second quarter of 2012 alone, the UK economy shrunk by 0.7 percent.

At this point the British economy has contracted for three quarters in a row.

Hopefully things will not get even worse over there.

#7 Major Economic Slowdown In The United States

Considering the fact that the U.S. economy never even came close to recovering from the last recession, it is a bit disheartening to see that it looks like we are headed for another major downturn.

According to Michael Panzer of Financial Armageddon, measurements of economic activity compiled by the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia indicate that the U.S. economy is rapidly heading into another recession.  If you doubt this, just check out this chart.

And for a lot more reasons why the U.S. economy is entering another recession, check out this article.

#8 Hauled Off To A Mental Institution For What You Believe

Do you ever worry that what you post on Facebook could get you involuntarily committed to a mental institution?

Well, that is exactly what happened to one military vet recently.

A former Marine named Brandon Raub was hauled off to a mental institution because of what he posted on his Facebook page.

This is how the Economic Policy Journal summarized what happened to Raub….

The muscle used to grab Brandon Raub was local Chesterfield County, VA police. Also present during the grab were agents of the FBI and of the Secret Service.

Both the FBI and the Secret Service claim that they were only observing and not participating in the grab. The Chesterfield County police initially stated that they were only carrying out a request from the federal agencies.

The police also claim Raub is not under arrest, even though he was led away in handcuffs and is not permitted to leave the psychiatric ward of a hospital—even though it appears that Raub is not in  any way in need of psychological care.

I note this happened in the United States of America, with local police, FBI agents and Secret Service taking part.

The claim that Raub is “not under arrest” is completely and totally ridiculous.  The authorities came to his door, slapped handcuffs on him and are holding him in a mental institution against his will.

And now he has been transferred to a facility that is 3 hours away from his family, his supporters and his legal team.

What in the world is America turning into?

The Rutherford Institute is defending Raub, and the following is an excerpt from a statement about this case on their website….

“This is not how justice in America is supposed to work—with Americans being arrested for doing nothing more than exercising their First Amendment rights, forced to undergo psychological evaluations, detained against their will and isolated from their family, friends and attorneys. This is a scary new chapter in our history,” said John W. Whitehead, president of The Rutherford Institute. “Brandon Raub is no different from the majority of Americans who use their private Facebook pages to post a variety of content, ranging from song lyrics and political hyperbole to trash talking their neighbors, friends and government leaders.”

This is the kind of thing that we have seen under brutal totalitarian regimes in the past.  Dissidents are grabbed by authorities and taken to mental institutions where they are conveniently “disappeared”.

This kind of thing is not supposed to happen in America.

But it is happening.

And you know what?  Before the authorities start attacking people for exercising free speech on Facebook perhaps they should clean up their own house.

It turns out that thousands of DHS employees have been convicted of crimes in recent years.  The following is from a recent CNS News article….

There have been 2,527 Department of Homeland Security (DHS) employees and co-conspirators convicted of corruption and other criminal misconduct since 2004, according to a federal auditor.

Our world is becoming a very crazy place.

One thing that most people did see coming this summer was the continuing economic decline in Greece.

At this point Greece is experiencing a full-blown economic depression and it gets worse by the day.

If you can believe it, 1,250 companies have shut down in the second largest city in Greece in 2012 alone.

And many in the financial world believe the the situation in Greece is going to go beyond the breaking point fairly soon.

In fact, analysts at Citibank believe that there is a 90 percent chance that Greece will leave the euro over the next 12 to 18 months.

90 percent?

They sound pretty sure of themselves.

Not that the rest of Europe is in such great shape either.

According to Bloomberg, it looks like Europe will soon be losing about half a million auto industry jobs….

Efforts by PSA Peugeot Citroen (UG) and Fiat SpA (F) to end losses in Europe could cost more than 500,000 people their jobs as automakers and parts suppliers grapple with the effects of the European sovereign debt crisis.

We live in very unusual times.

Things are falling apart all around us and we seem to be rapidly approaching another major economic crisis.

Central banks, governments and Wall Street insiders all seem to be preparing for the worst.

Are you?

  • blueridgeviews

Does this mean the ACLU is FOR this type of behaviour since the Rutherford Institute is defending the case?

    • Prepared Pastor

The Rutherford Institute is mistaken. It is not his private Facebook page. It is set to public so anyone with account can read it.

Furthermore, there is no case because he has not been charged with anything. They are using him to get some free publicity.

Finally, he made threats on his PUBLIC Facebook page. For example, on August 13th he wrote ‘Sharpen up my axe; I’m here to sever heads.’ I checked as I write this and they are still visible.

The authorities were most likely reacting to a complaint. Had they done nothing and this guy made good on his threats people would be complaining about that. These laws have been on the books for decades. My own ex-wife was committed for three days for threatening to kill herself. This is not a new erosion of our rights, but adherence to rule of law.

      • paul

It’s like China. Suicide, especially self immolation is illegal there.

      • Noodles123

“Finally, he made threats on his PUBLIC Facebook page. For example, on August 13th he wrote ‘Sharpen up my axe; I’m here to sever heads.’ I checked as I write this and they are still visible.”

        ************…It’s a line from a song…You sir are a sheep.

Does he think the idiots in charge right now of what seems to e EVERY government eem to be trying to crash the system and we should get rid of them?…Yes

Is he smart enough to know that to say some like “Kill a xxxx or assasinate xxxxx” would get him arrested?…Yes

Did he say any of that?…No

  • K

CBO predicts recession in 2013. The report is up on their website. You know it will be worse, than what they are saying. And maybe sooner. If you think insane things are happening now, you have not seen anything yet.

  • McKinley Morganfield

Item 2, commodity prices…. watch wheat. March wheat was down slightly today but still closed at $9.24! I grew up on a farm, and closely follow ag commodity markets, wheat future prices over the last 5 months have been stratospheric. Wheat at this level means widespread hardship in countries where the daily bread is a matter of survival; particularly in the Middle East.

  • Antonio Gonzalez

“Dissidents are grabbed by authorities and taken to mental institutions where they are conveniently “disappeared”.

This kind of thing is not supposed to happen in America.

    But it is happening.

Before it was american medicine for all the world.

  • DownWithLibs

Yes, it all appears to be unraveling much quicker now. We were warned.

  • Gay Veteran

Do you read articles by Paul Craig Roberts? He was Assistant Treasury Secretary under Reagan.

“…As Karl Marx said, money turns everything into a commodity that can be bought and sold: government, honor, morality, the writing of history, legality. Nothing is immune to purchase. This development of capitalism has reached the highest stage in the US and its puppet states, the governments of which sell out the interest of their peoples in order to please Washington and be made rich, like Tony Blair’s $35 million. Sending their citizens to fight for Washington’s empire in distant parts of the world is the service for which the utterly corrupt European politicians are paid. Despite the wondrous entity known as European Democracy, the European and British peoples are unable to do anything about their misuse in Washington’s interest. This is a new form of slavery. If a country is an amerikan ally, its people are amerikan slaves….”

“…Americans are told that “their” government cannot afford to help them because of the budget deficit and the burden on our grandchildren. But Americans see the trillions of dollars that are lavished on banksters, on wars, and on Homeland Security. Why is a police state and another attack on another Muslim country more important than keeping Americans in their jobs and in their homes?

The 11th anniversary of 9/11 is less than a month away. Will the presstitute media remind Americans that the government has spent $6 trillion of Americans’ money in out-of-pocket and already incurred future costs as the expense of invading and trying to occupy Afghanistan and Iraq, all to no effect except to enrich the managements and shareholders of the military security complex at the cost of destroying the reputation of the United States and putting Social Security and Medicare on the chopping block?…

Today moralizing is all about money, but not for the 99%. The 99% cannot find good jobs or earn anything on their savings, because the economy is run for the 1%. University graduates cannot get jobs and pay off their student loans. Retraining for the millions of Americans whose jobs were shipped offshore or filled by foreigners brought in on H1-B visas has proved to be a fraud, as there are no jobs for the retrained displaced long-term discouraged American work force. The official jobs projection by the US government is that few university graduates are needed in the work force, so the old mantra that “education is the answer” is just another lie from the Ivy League economic departments who sell the establishment’s lies for money….”

and this ONE paragraph sums up our political situation:

“…The liberal-left is even more delusional than the flag-waving conservatives. No matter what the government does, conservatives will come down on the government’s side. This is because conservatives confuse patriotism with support for the government, not with defense of the Constitution, a suspect document that coddles criminals, terrorists, and war protesters who cause America to lose wars. The liberal-left regards Obama with his half-black origin as a member of the oppressed class, personages endowed by the liberal-left with higher morality. The liberal-left continues to regard Obama as the redeemer even as Obama sits in the Oval Office approving lists of American citizens to be executed without due process of law. Not even Naomi Wolf can wake up the liberal-left….”

    • Mal R.

“No matter what the government does, conservatives will come down on the government’s side.”

Utter nonsense. Conservatives are the ones that are CONSTANTLY beat up by democrats because we want to roll back whole sections of big oppressive govt that democrats insist would be the end of the world.

You are correct tho, it was time to leave Iraq the day they hung Hussein and Afghanistan the day we blew Bin Laden’s head off. It wasn’t ‘all for nothing’ tho.

Gay, How is it that you post something like this and yet, you’re still a gigantic, tyrannical govt democrat. It boggles the mind.

      • Gay Veteran

        eyeroll, I’m not a Democrat

“roll back whole sections of big oppressive govt” You mean like the Pentagon?

        • Malcolm Reynolds

LOL, if you’re not a democrat, then you’re further left. I noticed you didn’t deny being for ‘gigantic, tyrannical govt’

Please cite how the Pentagon opressed you. You even claim to be a veteran. Were you thrown out for playing patty fingers with your boyfriend?

          • Gay Veteran

eyerool, I didn’t deny being for killing people and robbing little old ladies either

oppression by the Pentagon? gee, how about our little war of aggression against Iraq? killing civilians using our drones? the repeal of the Posse Comitatus Act?

btw Malcolm, did you serve or are you just another chickenhawk

          • Malcolm Reynolds

The purpose of the PEntagon is to kill people and destroy things. Please cite the little old ladies they Rob.

Gee, Red Herring. I said how did they oppress you. Psst, The Pentagon doesn’t repeal law, and the Congress hasn’t repealed the PCA. Just wanted to inform you since you’re ignorant.

BTW, Chickenhawk (Yea you), I’ve posted several times that I’m a 10 year veteran of the USMC. I served in an artillery Btry. I served in Desert Storm and Somalia in 94 and am eligible to join the VFW.

            your turn.

      • xander cross

reduce government waste? How about we start with reducing Ron Pauls paycheck and the millions of dollars that he and alex jones makes from ther corrupt gold business?

        • chuck

Can you explain your last statement more? I’m not aware of these accusations.

          • Gay Veteran

Malcolm, did you ever listen to President Eisenhower’s speech about the military-industrial complex?

I see you have nothing to say about our little war of aggression against Iraq? killing civilians using our drones? the repeal of the Posse Comitatus Act?

you really need to read more, guess you think the last National Defense Authorization Act is just about the bloated Pentagon budget

btw, do you even understand what “chickenhawk” means? “Chickenhawk (also chicken hawk and chicken-hawk) is a political term used in the United States to describe a person who strongly supports war or other military action (i.e., a War Hawk), yet who actively avoided military service when of age.”

thanks for your service, no empire can exist without cannon fodder

  • r.bitting

Why should a follower of Christ live in fear? Only those whose trust is in themselves have reason to fear ( And they will come to realize their fear too ). On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand.

    • paul

      Good for you.
Reminds me of the man who burned to death, refusing help from the firefighter.
Coming to heaven he asked god why he didn’t help, god asked: oh, didn’t the firefighters arrive I sent?

      • Mondobeyondo

If you follow that logic, you can ask, “If God meant man to fly, He would have given him wings”. Fortunately, He gave us (well, some of us) minds that could build not only airplanes, but space shuttles and Saturn V rockets. Man has been able to fly higher, faster and farther than any bird ever could dream of.

But still… being a bird doesn’t sound half bad!

      • Bryan

just curious have you excepted the Hand of God yet? he reaches down towards yours right now..have you come to fully trust Jesus Christ for you salvation…there is no other name under heaven and earth by which man can be saved…If you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord, and Believe in your heart God raised him from the dead you will be saved….r.biting is just sharing his, or her faith knowing in these coming days only God will save you from the coming wrath and it’s coming!

    • philip

Corrie Ten Boom was a survivor of Nazi death camps (having worked in the Dutch underground saving Jews) and spoke about Americans’ religious complacency shortly before her death in 1983. She warned from her own experiences how people in the USA should not feel so protected from the worst tyrannies and/or national disasters. I wonder how she would respond today when someone writes here ‘not to fear’. She was a very devout Christian. Maybe you shouldn’t fear, but you’d darned well better embrace the immediate future with a realistic appreciation of what can, and probably will, happen.

      • r.bitting

Already have, and again I say, do not fear.

  • Really?

Close your Facebook account, stock up on water , stay out of the west Nile states , buy gold maybe if you think it will help you when the collapse happens, stock up on foods that last for several months, buy guns to protect your family from DHS, hoard gasoline , antibiotics, and the countless necessities needed in extreme conditions, make sure you have fire, candles, batteries, lanterns, warm clothing, a plan of survival , watch out for The neighbor you have lived across the street from for ten years and never really spoken to Make sure you have first aid kits and plenty of ammo, stay under the radar only those you trust with your life can know anything about your plan. Have plenty of toilet paper never wanna go without that. By all means hate Walmart but it’s probably the place you can get the most bang for your dying dollar if your on a tight budget , pray for the world , your country, your fellow man and yourself
One day I awoke and everything that I believed in was a lie or misinformation and half truths. Sometimes I wonder if ignorance is bliss but for who. What happened to the place I grew up in where did my country go , I don’t suppose any of it was real now , just an illusion of sunshine and puppies on the surface with snakes and slimy things lurking just beneath. I always wondered why the public school system did not prepare you for life just the basics, I never learned about interest rates and utility bills and how one was going to afford those things. The system we live in takes our freedom and liberties away a little more each day. Is their really a megalomaniac ruling class that want to rule the masses with an iron fist must be it’s ever present throughout history and the world today but why were all civilized people we don’t really need to be policed live and let live…..yeah, you will have your ones that go against the grain of goodness but a society of like minded individuals would ensure swift justice to those that don’t play fair especially faster then any police or court system . A utopian society is not what I’m asking just a better one for all walks of life .Apparently that cannot happen without a complete tear down of this way of life and brand new structure ,unfortunately it has to be total destruction to achieve this. 8 things not expected this summer seems more of an unofficial seal of approval for the next 8 unexpected happenings and the inevitable course of decay and chaos. Happy Wednesday everyone!!!!!!

From Wikipedia (a left wing site)

His hypothesis of a resource-based economy is sometimes equated with Marxism,[123] socialism, communism, or fascism.[89][119][124]

Sorry, that’s all I need to know he’s selling people a crap sandwich.

  • Doctor Blue

The world is going to hell in a hand basket.
Our leaders are driving the car and the gas pedal is on the floor, no brakes, who cares, just keep that gas pedal on the floor, right over the cliff. Forget jobs, forget the economy what we need is ObummerCare to add another $2,000 to our tax bill and another Trillion dollars in debt. When the crash hits they will be at your door for your guns and your food. What is coming will be Hell on Earth!

    • wisefool

Guns will do you no good against the foreign (trained and very well armed) military they will use to enforce martial law. It will be like Syria is now here in the U.S. If you have an attractive daughter or wife, you will experience the worst of it.

      • paul

        Oh the fear of foreigners.
You need not fear the foreign mercenaries but those who pay them. Those are the guys you need to get rid of. Your choice.

  • Mondobeyondo

A couple of comments. Not too many – I don’t want to keep everyone else sleepless tonight!

The Mississippi River is getting so dry, that salt water from the Gulf of Mexico is actually moving UPSTREAM into the river! This is not good.

Is there going to be any relief from this drought? Maybe, but not likely. Many times, droughts last much longer than one summer. 2013 and 2014 might be downright horrific.

What happened to Brandon Raub is an outrage. This sounds like something that would happen in Soviet Russia, not the United States of America.

If more people were aware of this, they would be outraged as well. But it’s funny how this has not been known elsewhere. The very first time I ever heard about Brandon Raub was on the Economic Collapse blog. No mention of it at all in the mainstream media. Weird, huh?

Yes, this is getting scary. I’m now scared to click “Like” on any comments about Ron Paul. And you’d better watch who you “friend” on Facebook. If you don’t… they may be coming to take YOU away, ha ha!

That’s the reason I’ve never even considered Facebook, MySpace, or Twitter. I often wonder if “The Economic Collapse” is being watched by DHS.

I have a friend who is even afraid to say anything negative on the phone about the government.

      Sad, very sad.

Syrin, Obama has built upon the foundation laid by Bush (who was much loved by you conservatives)

      • John W.

Actually most genuine conservatives have no love for Bush. Lucky for him Obama came along and saved him from last place in rating the presidents. Bin laden stated after 9/11 that part of his plan was to get the US to bankrupt itself responding to the attack. Bush still took the bait. Obama is even worse than Bush who had no malice in his actions which cannot be said for Obama.

        • Gay Veteran

“…Obama is even worse than Bush who had no malice in his actions….”

and what evidence do you have to say that about Bush? Cheney certainly profited

    Harlem [Dream Deferred]
    by Langston Hughes (1902-1967)
What happens to a dream deferred?

    Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
    Or fester like a sore—
    And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
    Or crust and sugar over—
    like a syrupy sweet?

    Maybe it just sags
    like a heavy load.

    Or does it explode?
Say bye-bye to the 2 car garage, 3 bedroom house, picket fence and big back yard. The good news is, you still have the 2 to 4 children.
Greece is already going through this. Italy will most likely be next.
And it will come to the U.S. too. The Pacific and Atlantic oceans won’t be able to save us from this calamity.

Did you miss the 1930’s? (aka The “Dirty Thirties”)
Don’t worry, they’re coming back. You haven’t missed much.

Umm, I meant to say, you’ll miss a lot. Especially your wealth, your job and your livelihood. There’s a pretty good chance you’ll be hungry and homeless, and so will your wife/husband and children.. The official national unemployment rate in 1932 was 25 percent. Some people claim it was closer to 70-80 percent in some rural towns. Do you really want that in 2012?

Things are bad now. They were horrifying back then. The U.S. economy in the abyss, fertile farmland turned into dust, and a crazed dictator in Germany (and his somewhat less crazy friends in Italy and Japan) – which eventually led to the greatest global conflict in history. No, it was not good times. My grandparents were NOT nostalgic about the 1930’s. Not at all.

But we’re going down the same road, 80 years later. We have learned nothing.

Look to the events in Tampa the first of the week. I’m afraid history will see it as the spark that ignites “the” event of 2012 and changes this country forever. Brandon Raub getting arrested is not a sign of anything. Even 20 years ago if someone publicly announced, “sharpen my axe I’m gonna take some heads”, he would have been looked into and evaluated.

He was not arrested for speech of dissent. It was threatening speech. If what he said was directed at you or your kids you would have called the cops. It was directed at the gov’t so they took care of it.

Exactly, the guy needed to be taken into custody and evaluated. I notice Michael only included enough information on this story to support an alarmist viewpoint – typical one-sided journalism.

So go ahead and post your justification for ‘scooping someone up off the street’ without a warrant and in violation of their 1st, 4th, and 5th amendment rights when they quote a Canadian Rap song and say ‘the revolution is here’.

I seem to remember the bamster speaking out against that – at least when the person is Muslim.

I am English and live in the UK. You are quite right about our economy, but unfortunately most people over here are totally oblivious to the enormity of our predicament.
The mainstream media have developed obfuscation into an art form so everyone is confused and apathetic and think all would be wonderful if it were not for those pesky Europeans. They trivialise the major problems and concentrate their “news” coverage on inconsequential babble so that the vast majority of Brits are totally unaware how precarious their existance is.

Keep buying locally. Especially second hand. Get local workers weatherizing your home, save energy, prepare your clothing and everything else for winter. Start making Christmas presents for your loved ones. Save seeds for next year. Prepare for storm, prepare for snow, prepare for ice, prepare for rain and flood. Collect dry sand in bags. And don’t forget to plant trees and hedges. They give shade and fruits and their deep roots draw up moisture and nutrients to the surface, dropped in fall in form of leaves. Keep the leaves on your property that’s fertilizer.

Well, here’s more on the largest of those potential “black swans” which might be arriving before the end of this year…

“Israel’s War Plans to Attack Iran “Before the US Elections”

    by Michel Chossudovsky
    August 21, 2012

Israel’s Channel 10 suggests, in no uncertain terms, that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is “determined to attack Iran before the US elections” and that the “time for action is getting closer.”

“Israel is now closer than ever to a strike designed to thwart Iran’s nuclear drive”.

This timely report suggests that Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak firmly believe that President Obama “would have no choice but to give backing for an Israeli attack” were it to be waged before the November presidential elections:

The TV station’s military reporter Alon Ben-David, who earlier this year was given extensive access to the Israel Air Force as it trained for a possible attack, reported that, since upgraded sanctions against Iran have failed to force a suspension of the Iranian nuclear program in the past two months, “from the prime minister’s point of view, the time for action is getting ever closer.”

Asked by the news anchor in the Hebrew-language TV report how close Israel now was to “a decision and perhaps an attack,” Ben-David said: “It appears that we are closer than ever.”

He said it seemed that Netanyahu was not waiting for a much-discussed possible meeting with US President Barack Obama, after the UN General Assembly gathering in New York late next month — indeed, “it’s not clear that there’ll be a meeting.” In any case, said Ben-David, “I doubt Obama could say anything that would convince Netanyahu to delay a possible attack.”

There is considerable opposition to an Israeli strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities, the report noted — with President Shimon Peres, the army’s chief of the General Staff and top generals, the intelligence community, opposition leader Shaul Mofaz, “and of course the Americans” all lined up against Israeli action at this stage.

But, noted Ben-David, it is the Israeli government that would have to take the decision, and there Netanyahu is “almost guaranteed” a majority. Other Hebrew media reports on Tuesday also said Netanyahu had dispatched a senior official, National Security Adviser Yaakov Amidror, to update the elderly spiritual leader of the Shas ultra-Orthodox coalition party, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, on the status of the Iranian nuclear program, in order to try to win over Shas government ministers’ support for an attack. (Times of Israel, emphasis added)

In an earlier report, Richard Silverstein provides details of a leaked military document (translated from the Hebrew) which outlines the nature of Netanyahu’s proposed “shock and awe attack” on Iran:

The Israeli attack will open with a coordinated strike, including an unprecedented cyber-attack which will totally paralyze the Iranian regime and its ability to know what is happening within its borders. The internet, telephones, radio and television, communications satellites, and fiber optic cables leading to and from critical installations—including underground missile bases at Khorramabad and Isfahan—will be taken out of action. The electrical grid throughout Iran will be paralyzed and transformer stations will absorb severe damage from carbon fiber munitions which are finer than a human hair, causing electrical short circuits whose repair requires their complete removal. This would be a Sisyphean task in light of cluster munitions which would be dropped, some time-delayed and some remote-activated through the use of a satellite signal.

A barrage of tens of ballistic missiles would be launched from Israel toward Iran. 300km ballistic missiles would be launched from Israeli submarines in the vicinity of the Persian Gulf. The missiles would not be armed with unconventional warheads [WMD], but rather with high-explosive ordnance equipped with reinforced tips designed specially to penetrate hardened targets.

The missiles will strike their targets—some exploding above ground like those striking the nuclear reactor at Arak–which is intended to produce plutonium and tritium—and the nearby heavy water production facility; the nuclear fuel production facilities at Isfahan and facilities for enriching uranium-hexaflouride. Others would explode under-ground, as at the Fordo facility.

A barrage of hundreds of cruise missiles will pound command and control systems, research and development facilities, and the residences of senior personnel in the nuclear and missile development apparatus. Intelligence gathered over years will be utilized to completely decapitate Iran’s professional and command ranks in these fields.

After the first wave of attacks, which will be timed to the second, the “Blue and White” radar satellite, whose systems enable us to perform an evaluation of the level of damage done to the various targets, will pass over Iran. Only after rapidly decrypting the satellite’s data, will the information be transferred directly to war planes making their way covertly toward Iran. These IAF planes will be armed with electronic warfare gear previously unknown to the wider public, not even revealed to our U.S. ally. This equipment will render Israeli aircraft invisible. Those Israeli war planes which participate in the attack will damage a short-list of targets which require further assault.

Among the targets approved for attack—Shihab 3 and Sejil ballistic missile silos, storage tanks for chemical components of rocket fuel, industrial facilities for producing missile control systems, centrifuge production plants and more.

Richard Silverstein underscores the fact that there is considerable opposition within Israel to the Netanyahu-Barak plan to bomb Iran, which would be waged as a means to (allegedly) ensuring the “safety of Israel” against Iran.

Will this Israeli opposition prevail were a decision to be taken by Netanyahu and his Defense Minister to carry out an attack plan?

Is Netanyahu a US Political Proxy?

Who is backing Netanyahu? There are powerful economic interests in the US who are in favor of an attack on Iran.

Is this an Israeli war project or is Israel’s prime minister a US political proxy, acting on behalf of the Pentagon?

What happens if Netanyahu gives the order to attack? Will this order be carried out by Israel’s high command despite extensive opposition from within Israel’s Armed Forces?

The issue is not whether Washington will grant a green light to Israel before the US elections as conveyed by the the Israeli media.

    The fundamental question is twofold.

    1. Who at the political level decides on launching this war? Washington or Tel Aviv? Who are the economic powers elites which overshadow the political process in both the US and Israel?

    2. Who ultimately decides– in terms of military command and control– in carrying out a large scale theater war in the Middle East: Washington or Tel Aviv?

Israel is a de facto US military outpost in the Middle East. US and Israeli command structures are integrated, with close consultations between the Pentagon and Israel’s Ministry of Defense. Reported last January, a large number of US troops are to be stationed in Israel. Joint war games between the US and Israel are also envisaged.

US-Israel-NATO war plans directed against Iran have been ongoing since 2003 including the deployment and stockpiling of advanced weapons systems.

The Israeli media reports are misleading. Israel cannot under any circumstances wage a war on Iran without the military backing of the US and NATO.

Advanced weapons systems have been deployed. US and allied Special Forces as well as intelligence operatives are already on the ground inside Iran. US military drones are involved in spying and reconnaissance activities.

Bunker buster B61 tactical nuclear weapons are slated to be used against Iran in retaliation for its alleged nuclear weapons program.

Military actions against Iran are coordinated with those pertaining to Syria.

What we are dealing with is a global military agenda, centralized and coordinated by US Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) involving complex logistics, liaison with various military and intelligence entities. In 2005, USSTRATCOM was identified as “the lead Combatant Command for integration and synchronization of DoD-wide efforts in combating weapons of mass destruction.” This Combatant Command integration also included coordination with America’s allies including NATO, Israel and a number of frontline Arab states, which are members of NATO’s Mediterranean dialogue.

In this broader context of imperial warfare coordinated out of USSTRATCOM in liaison with US Central Command (USCENTCOM), Netanyahu’s attack plan against Iran, conveys the illusion that Tel Aviv rather than Washington calls the shots on waging a war on Iran.

The Israeli media reports mentioned above convey the impression that Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak are in a position to act independently of Washington as well as force Obama into supporting Israel’s attack on Iran.

The notion that Israel could act alone and against the interests of the US is part of a subtle disinformation campaign. There is a longstanding foreign policy practice for Washington to encourage its close allies to take the first step in the unleashing a war, with the Pentagon pulling the military strings in the background.

Let us be under no illusion, the war plans directed against Iran, which have been on the Pentagon’s drawing board since 2003, are established at the highest levels in Washington in consultation and coordination with Tel Aviv and NATO headquarters in Brussels.

While Israel participates in the conduct of war, it does not play an overriding central role in setting the military agenda.”

And here’s the tough Iranian response:

      “Iranian Former Defense Minister:
Iran to Wage Full-Scale War in Case of Israeli Aggression

Former Iranian Defense Minister Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani said Iran will reciprocate any Israeli aggression with a full-scale and long term response.

Iran to Wage Full-Scale War in Case of Israeli Aggression(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) – Former Iranian Defense Minister Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani said Iran will reciprocate any Israeli aggression with a full-scale and long term response.

“Iran never hits the first strike and has and does never initiate war, but in case of enemy aggression, certainly Iran’s reaction will not be temporary,” said Shamkhani, who heads the Center for Strategic Defense now on Wednesday.

“They can test it and watch its result,” Shamkhani underscored.

He further said Iran’s might has discouraged enemies from exercising their threats, cautioning that Iran’s might and power has made the costs of military action against Iran much higher than its benefits.

The remarks by the Iranian military figure came in response to the recent statements of the Israeli home front defense minister who claimed that Israel is prepared for a 30-day war on multiple fronts should it decide to strike Iran.

In an interview with Maariv newspaper, Matan Vilnai warned that any military engagement should be weighed carefully, and cautioned that Israel should “always coordinate” with the United States.

“The assessments are for a war that will last 30 days on a number of fronts,” he said.

In similar remarks in June, the Iranian Supreme Leader’s top military aide dismissed the possibility of a US or Israeli military move against Iran as “weak”, but meantime cautioned that Iran’s crushing reprisal for an Israeli attack would force one million Israelis to flee in the first one or two weeks of the conflict.

Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi described Israel’s Jewish community as “vulnerable”, and noted, “The Zionists are living in such international conditions that if they intend to launch an attack against Iran, one million Jews will flee Israel in the first one or two weeks. Jews are very vulnerable there.” “

“Four Reasons Why Israel Probably Won’t Attack Iran

Back in April, I offered a few thoughts on Iran, suggesting that war was far from imminent and we should all calm down a bit. Since then, formal diplomacy between Iran and the world’s six leading powers has fallen apart since the failure of the Moscow talks in June. Meanwhile, Israel’s political leadership is, once again, threatening a preventive strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

So was I wrong? Well, I’m going to stick my neck out and argue that my conclusions from April are still valid. War is not around the corner and it might not happen at all. I claim no great insight and I could be proven wrong tomorrow if Israel were attack targets across Iran.

…and in Israel itself, popular resistance to an unprovoked Israeli attack on Iran is growing:

“Writers Warn Netanyahu: ‘Don’t Strike Iran Without Cabinet Approval’

          RT News,
          22 August, 2012.

Twenty Israeli writers are planning to send a letter to Israel’s Attorney-General on Wednesday, demanding that Benjamin Netanyahu declare he will not initiate military action against Iran without cabinet approval.

The letter will be written directly to Yehuda Weinstein, and threatens legal action if Prime Minister Netanyahu does not commit to a vote in his 30-member cabinet by the end of the week.

One of the writers’ lawyers, Michael Sfard, has asked the Attorney-General to express to Netanyahu that, “Because an attack on Iran has enormous ramifications for every possible field of activity, whether it be a ‘surgical’ strike or a comprehensive war, at issue is an act of exactly the type the legislature meant when it determined that only the government can decide upon it.”

The signatories are demanding a reply by Thursday. If they do not receive one, they plan to petition the High Court of Justice.

When asked why the group decided to send a letter instead of starting a petition, attorney Eldad Yaniv told Haaretz News that “This is a serious issue with fateful consequences, not just a subject for another petition.”

The letter is the latest move in the debate over whether to attack Iran to prevent it from developing a nuclear weapon.

PM Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak are believed to favor a strike on Iran, while former defense officials oppose it.

“Barak is advocating for action and the defense establishment is investing billions to prepare for an Israeli military operation,” an Israeli official told Ynet News.

Barak’s position on a potential strike has been met with opposition from Israeli society.

Less than a week ago, more than 400 Israelis signed an online petition urging Israel Defense Forces (IDF) pilots not to obey potential orders to bomb Iran.

But tensions are also rising in the political world between two of the country’s most powerful leaders.

Israeli President Shimon Peres showed a display of defiance earlier this month when he said that Israel should not launch an attack on Iran without America’s approval.

“It’s clear to us that we can’t do it alone. We can only delay [Iran’s progress]. Thus it’s clear to us that we need to go together with America,” Peres told Israel’s Channel Two television.

But Obama and Netanyahu remain the two key players in deciding whether Israel will strike Iran.

The Obama administration has not ruled out the possibility of using military action against Iran, but says the priority of world powers is the use of diplomacy and sanctions to rein in Tehran’s nuclear activity.”

Here’s an excellent practical recommendation on responding to the repeated and bombastic Israeli threats to attack Iran:

            “Call Israel’s Bluff

            by Ivan Eland,
            August 24, 2012.

The Israeli government, like other special interests prowling in Washington, is playing the American election to get what it wants. Ultimately, the Israelis want a promise that the United States will attack Iran over its nuclear program.

The Israelis recently have made threats to attack Iran. Their allies in the United States were spreading the word that Israel might do so before the U.S. election, because Barack Obama, desperate for the votes and money of American Jews in a tight election, would then be forced to support the Israeli action.

A former Israeli official then offered that Israel might give up plans to attack Iran if the United States led an effort to impose tighter economic sanctions and promised to attack Iran if that country refused to negotiate away its nuclear program. Although still using the American election to get what it wants, the latter statement shows that Israel is running a bluff to do so.

Although Barack Obama has made noises about not letting the Iranians get nuclear weapons, he has avoided promising to attack them if they don’t give up their nuclear program. He should continue to avoid such a promise, even in the face of Israeli threats.

Israel’s threat to attack Iran is a bluff, because Israeli officials have to know that their earth-penetrating bunker-busting weapons would be ineffective in reaching all of the hardened, deeply buried Iranian nuclear facilities. The Iranians have learned from past Israeli attacks from the air on above-ground Iraqi and Syrian nuclear facilities (in 1981 and 2007, respectively). Such an Israeli attack on Iran would not eliminate the Iranian nuclear program but would likely cause the Iranians to decide to actually produce a weapon (which U.S. intelligence says they have not yet done) and to attempt to rapidly realize that goal. (After Israel’s attack on Iraq’s Osirak reactor, Saddam Hussein accelerated efforts to obtain a nuclear weapon.)

Even some doubt exists that more advanced U.S. earth-penetrating bunker-busting weapons would be able to take out all key Iranian facilities, thus also inducing an acceleration of Iranian nuclear efforts. But nevertheless, Israeli officials calculate that better U.S. weapons have a greater chance of taking out more of Iran’s nuclear capacity and that the U.S., fearing an Israeli attack would ignite the entire Middle East region, would prefer to attack Iran rather than have Israel do it.

While it may be true that any Israeli attack would inflame the Middle East more than an American one, at least the retaliation from Iran, Iran’s proxy Hezbollah of Lebanon, and other jihadists would fall more on Israel and far less on U.S. targets around the world (including U.S. troops in nearby Afghanistan).

Besides, the United States has far fewer vital interests at stake in the Middle East that would be threatened by Israeli attack-induced turmoil than is commonly believed by U.S. officials and the American public. In my book No War for Oil: U.S. Dependency and the Middle East, I argue that it is actually cheaper to buy oil, even in times of high prices, than it is to imperially “secure” it using military power in the Middle East. The world oil market will provide petroleum at the cheapest possible prices, because oil producers, including Iran, can make a profit by selling it into the world market. In other words, oil is “strategic” only because governments think it is; in reality, it behaves like any other product. The Iranians have threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz, through which much of Persian Gulf oil flows, but they didn’t do so during the cataclysmic Iran-Iraq War, when their national survival was at stake, and they would shut down their own oil exports by taking this action. Some analysts even doubt whether Iran is militarily capable of choking off all ship traffic through the strait.

That said, it is not a good thing that an Islamist regime, such as Iran, could get a nuclear weapon. But it is also not the end of the world for either Israel or the United States. Israel is much wealthier than most of its neighbors and could deter any attack by an Iran possessing only a few nuclear weapons by the mere existence of its vastly superior conventional military capabilities and its arsenal of 200 to 400 nuclear weapons. Despite the radical rhetoric of the Islamist leadership in Iran, the regime’s actions have always been fairly pragmatic and not suicidal.

The United States is a half a world away from Iran — requiring a long-range missile to deliver any Iranian weapon, which the Iranian regime does not now have — and has thousands of nuclear warheads as a deterrent to any limited Iranian nuclear attack. Although an Iran with a nuclear bomb might prompt other nations in the Middle East — for example, Turkey or Saudi Arabia — to develop nuclear weapons, a nuclear balance might actually inhibit war in the region, as the U.S.-Soviet nuclear balance did during the Cold War. The wealthy Israel, already far ahead in any nuclear arms race in the Middle East, likely would continue to lead any such competition.

Thus, the United States should spurn Israel’s pre-election blackmail attempts and avoid promising to attack Iran, thus implicitly calling Israel’s bluff and telling the Israelis to “be my guest” for any threatened attack. If the Israelis are foolish enough to take up the challenge, they will have to live with the likely military ineffectiveness of any attack, subsequent accelerated Iranian nuclear efforts, Iranian retaliation, an unpopular Iranian regime rejuvenated, and a roiled Middle Eastern neighborhood. And the U.S. should not be around to bail them out.”

Will Israel roll the “Iran Attack” dice or won’t they…? Got a fallout shelter?

            “Bibi’s Game: Nuclear Blackmail?

An Israeli Strike Against Iran Is Bound To Go Nuclear

            by Justin Raimondo,
            August 20, 2012

The Israelis are going all out to lure, threaten, and scare the US into attacking Iran: the world hasn’t seen such a frenzy of staged hysterics since my three-year-old niece threatened to hold her breath until her parents agreed to buy her all six Barbie Fashionistas. Complain, complain, complain: kvetch, kvetch, kvetch: that’s been Bibi Netanyahu’s shtick ever since this President took office. However, the hysterics reached a crescendo of unprecedented shrillness last week, a turn of events dutifully reported in the Washington Post:

“A flurry of public statements and anonymous quotes to the Israeli news media in the past week has raised speculation that an Israeli attack could come before the U.S. presidential election in November.”

Anonymous Israeli officials snort in disgust at those “unreliable” Americans who sent them nearly $4 billion last year, make a big display of testing the country’s anti-missile defenses, and issue gas masks in preparation for the much-threatened and long awaited Israeli first strike on Iran.

‘I’ll huff, and I’ll puff, and I’ll blow your house down!’

The Israeli wolf is at the door, but one has to wonder what this President’s house is made of: straw, sticks, or bricks? And when the wolf comes down the chimney, will the pot be set to boiling? Not to stretch an analogy beyond the point of no return, but when it comes to Israel and its ceaseless demands, “not by the hair of my chinny chin chin” isn’t in this administration’s vocabulary.

While some officials may express such sentiments privately, in public the American response to Netanyahu’s open attempt to blackmail this White House has been complete silence. If you listen real hard, you can hear the first leaves falling on the White House lawn. Aside from boilerplate rhetoric about leaving no option off the proverbial table, and hailing the “success” of sanctions, the Americans have been unusually restrained, even given their usual reluctance to tangle with Tel Aviv.

Why is that? Yes, yes, I know, it’s all about the Vast Zionist Conspiracy That Controls the World, as some of the more misguided and simplistic critics of Israel would have it. While nothing I say or write will talk such people out of their primitive reductionism, this is not to deny the existence and power of the Israel lobby in this country. It is merely to suggest that something else is at work here, a factor unreported but previously hinted at – and that is the possibility Netanyahu is playing a game of nuclear blackmail with this administration, threatening to launch a nuclear first strike at Iran.

This possibility was prefigured, you’ll recall, in a New York Times op ed piece by Benny Morris, an Israeli historian of note, published in the summer of 2008. Morris argued that unless the Israelis or the Americans took out the Iranians’ alleged nuclear weapons facilities in six to eight months,

“[T]he Middle East will almost certainly face a nuclear war — either through a subsequent pre-emptive Israeli nuclear strike or a nuclear exchange shortly after Iran gets the bomb.

“It is in the interest of neither Iran nor the United States (nor, for that matter, the rest of the world) that Iran be savaged by a nuclear strike, or that both Israel and Iran suffer such a fate. We know what would ensue: a traumatic destabilization of the Middle East with resounding political and military consequences around the globe, serious injury to the West’s oil supply and radioactive pollution of the earth’s atmosphere and water.

“But should Israel’s conventional assault fail to significantly harm or stall the Iranian program, a ratcheting up of the Iranian-Israeli conflict to a nuclear level will most likely follow.”

I said at the time I thought this would never have been published in the Times without at least the foreknowledge and encouragement of Israeli government officials, perhaps the most hawkish faction of the national security establishment. One has to wonder if Morris’s grim prophecy has come true to the extent that Bibi is now threatening to fulfill it.

It makes sense technically, because Israel’s threat to launch a solo attack is hollow otherwise. Iran’s alleged nuclear facilities are so well dispersed, and, in the case of the Fordow installation, so well fortified as to represent an insuperable challenge to Israel’s military capabilities. A first strike would simply not take them out, and the war to follow would last far longer than the mere thirty-day IDF blitzkrieg imagined by some Israeli officials. What would take them out, however – and possibly threaten the very existence of the Iranian regime – would be a few well-targeted nuclear bombs.

Of these, Israel has plenty: indeed, the Israeli Prime Minister reportedly had something to do with their original acquisition, according to recently declassified documents [.pdf] no one outside Israel is paying much attention to. What a narrative for our more melodramatic future historians and Netanyahu biographers: he blackmailed the Americans with the very weapon his young self stole out from under their averted noses.

Perhaps the Israelis will settle for something less than the head of Ahmadinejad in exchange for calling off their nuclear pit bulls – say, the release of Jonathan Pollard, a perennial favorite of right-wing Israeli politicians, and a clampdown on leaks underscoring the threat posed by Israeli intelligence to US interests in the Middle East. But how long will these concessions satisfy them? Blackmailers are rarely satisfied with a few pay-offs. The November election may come and go, with no Israeli strike forthcoming – but always, from this point on, there will be that possibility hanging over Obama’s head, a veritable sword of Damocles hanging by a very thin string. No wonder his hair is turning white.

Given the nuclear threat emanating from Israel, one has to wonder how and why the Europeans hopped on the sanctions bandwagon with such eagerness. After all, weren’t we told the Europeans were fanatically hostile to Israel, and that this was the direct consequence of the “new anti-Semitism”? Why the big turnaround?

When contemplating nuclear war and its consequences, the first issue is physical proximity: the environmental consequences of a nuclear conflict for Europe are bound to be significant. If indeed Bibi is engaging in nuclear blackmail, then it’s easy to see the Europeans going along with the tightest sanctions – and even preemptive war – in the interests of avoiding a greater evil.

This is to say nothing of the consequences for Israel should such a horrific scenario occur, upon which the whole world would sit in harsh judgment — not least of all, the judgment of history. Then again, the Israelis may not care so much about that.

In making an argument in favor of nuking Iran, Prof. Morris echoed a claim often made by Israeli government officials and their amen corner in the US: that the Iranian regime is not rational in the Western sense, and its leaders are not rational actors. According to this tired talking point, it’s all about Shi’ite theology, which supposedly means Iran’s leaders are eager to embrace martyrdom as their highest religious duty. Once they gain access to nuclear weapons, Tehran’s mullahs will not be deterred by the prospect of retaliation: since their religious duty is the destruction of Israel, they will not hesitate to launch a nuclear attack.

Without going into too much detail over the shoddiness of this threadbare argument, I’d like to suggest that one could, at this point, justifiably question the rationality of the current Israeli leadership. They seem determined to plunge the region into a conflagration that is likely to drag in much of the rest of the world.

In characterizing the Iranians as irrational actors, Israel’s propagandists are engaging in a classic case of projection. Blinded by a religious fundamentalism that envisions a Greater Israel as the fulfillment of Divine Will, the radicals who have taken over the Israeli government pose much more of a direct threat than their Muslim equivalents – because, after all, the Israelis are actually in possession of a great many nukes, as many as 500.

If we take Israeli rhetoric at face value, then the possibility of an Israeli nuclear strike is more than mere speculation. The Israeli position is clear: Iran even having the means to assemble a nuclear weapon without actually doing so represents an “existential threat” to the Jewish state. If they must choose between enduring another holocaust or inflicting one — what course will Netanyahu take?

If my guess is correct, then he has already made his choice – and the next move is up to the Obama administration.”

Here the good news: when people start prepping on a grand scale, economic collapse can be prevented.
The bad news: as nothing happens, people will be accused of crying wolf.

      • Andriano

More importantly, if people start prepping on a grand scale, the neighbors won’t have to kill each other for food and water when SHTF.

I’ve often wondered whether I should close my Facebook account for awhile. The only reasons why I use FB is for family, close friends and my post are usually about the coming economic collapse. But it seems that everything we say and do is being monitored. We are living in frightening times.

I understand its darn near impossible to close a FB account.

Stupid Facebook keeps suggesting to me I “friend” my step-MIL who has been deceased for several years now.

As usual Michael, another well written article. I was glad to see you mention the Brandon Raub story. I have been following this story and I believe this is the test case for the NDAA law enacted on New Years Eve. Brandon wrote some things on his facebook page that were really no different than the comments I see on Youtube and your website as well, but he is a war veteran, who better to ‘arrest’ and detain than a vet, to use as an example? One word describes this whole thing…. Scary!

#9 – a “conservative” justice decided that Obamacare was constitutional. So now the central government can impose their will on state and individual rights. Don’t let that pesky Constitution of “negative rights” get in the way of our God given liberties!

  • W. R. Flynn

Bone Idle, thanks for the article.

It’ll be something nasty, blindsiding everyone. Something that slips under the radar. And it’ll occur quick. We’re simply getting too fragile in a system far too complex for any of us to fully understand.

I strongly believe it’ll be an economic systemic failure that nails us, one occurring faster than most suspect, but an untreatable disease outbreak is #2 on my short list. We’re constantly brewing untreatable diseases through overuse of disinfectants, antibiotics and our ever-denser, close-knit living conditions.

Maybe the world is better off, if those people would just stay on vacation permanently….No more arguing, no more political gibber/jabber….

If so, explain why if you are in the know….

“This is not how justice in America is supposed to work—with Americans being arrested for doing nothing more than exercising their First Amendment rights, forced to undergo psychological evaluations, detained against their will and isolated from their family, friends and attorneys.”

Well, when the same neurotic ethno-religious group that propagated the socialist/communist revolutions, often funded by their “capitalist” banking cartel brethern, has captured the key power structures and mindsets of the US and Western Europe, this is to be expected. Hope everyone enjoys the Gulags, as in “The Gulag Archipelago”.

Anyone see the price of peanut butter lately? School just started here in Simi Valley, California… so, went to our local Albertson’s to stock up on a few items… luckily, I already but a two year supply of peanut butter last year as the current price for the smallest jar is now $4.99 for 16.3 ounces. I paid just $1.79 for the same jar two years ago and that price held for the prior two years… now we seen a 150% and up increase since then. Just tell me, how will all of the children in America do without PB&Js? PB&J sandwiches were a staple food when I was a child… my children eat them about 4 times a week. It’s simple, filling and healthy food… sadly, this is the new America… First, they throw the middle class out of there homes then they starve them into their enslavement.

    • Do choosey moms still choose Jif?

I’m not sure the Food police approve of your children eating so many peanut butter sandwiches. Maybe they’ve levied a sin tax on PBJ.

Gary, you demonstrate nothing but your inability to think ahead in any shape manner or form.

FYI Sparky here’s what oil is used for,

2/3 of oil is used for transportation.
some electricity is produced from oil.
      all oil based lubricants.
In some regions of the US, people heat their homes with oil.
All plastic is from oil. The most common thing in our lives is oil. I cant even begin to list the products, but rest assured, its in everything from your iPhone to the jacket you wore up there in Wisconsin to occupy the state house.

An ample number of things around the house use oil.

      the toothpaste you use daily
      your shampoo
      shaving cream
      nail polish
      nail polish remover
all have some or the other type of petroleum compounds like crude oil or natural gas included in the ingredients.

medications. Why do you hate people Gary!?
fertilizers Why are you trying to starve poor people gary.
pesticides WHy are you trying to kill people with insect borne disease Gary.

All these essential commodities are transported thousands of miles through helicopters, trucks, buses, cars, ships, etc. These modes of transportation all work on, you guessed it right, oil.

Other uses of oil includes, use as fuel in form of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), gasoline (petrol), diesel fuel, kerosene, jet fuel and fuel oils. It is used as lubricants for motor oils, greases, machine oils, etc. Bulk tar, asphalt, paraffin wax, petroleum coke, aromatic petrochemicals, etc. are also products made from oil.

You may not care now, but you damned sure will when oil shoots up $50-$100 a barrel and you cant afford to transport your dopey a$$ to work.

SOMEBODY IS COMING AFTER THE WOMAN CLOTHED WITH THE SUN!!NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH THE WHORE OF BABYLON!! A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. 2 She was with child and wailed aloud in pain as she labored to give birth. 3 Then another sign appeared in the sky; it was a huge red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns, and on its heads were seven diadems. 4 Its tail swept away a third of the stars in the sky and hurled them down to the earth. Then the dragon stood before the woman about to give birth, to devour her child when she gave birth. 5 She gave birth to a son, a male child, destined to rule all the nations with an iron rod. Her child was caught up to God and his throne. 6 The woman herself fled into the desert where she had a place prepared by God, that there she might be taken care of for twelve hundred and sixty days. 7 Then war broke out in heaven; Michael* and his angels battled against the dragon. The dragon and its angels fought back, 8but they did not prevail and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. 9The huge dragon, the ancient serpent,* who is called the Devil and Satan, who deceived the whole world, was thrown down to earth, and its angels were thrown down with it.e 10Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: “Now have salvation and power come, and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Anointed. For the accuser of our brothers is cast out, who accuses them before our God day and night. 11 They conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; love for life did not deter them from death. 12 Therefore, rejoice, you heavens, and you who dwell in them. But woe to you, earth and sea, for the Devil has come down to you in great fury, for he knows he has but a short time.
13 When the dragon saw that it had been thrown down to the earth, it pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child. 14 But the woman was given the two wings of the great eagle, so that she could fly to her place in the desert, where, far from the serpent, she was taken care of for a year, two years, and a half-year. 15 The serpent, however, spewed a torrent of water out of his mouth after the woman to sweep her away with the current. 16 But the earth helped the woman and opened its mouth and swallowed the flood that the dragon spewed out of its mouth. 17 Then the dragon became angry with the woman and went off to wage war against the rest of her offspring, those who keep God’s commandments and bear witness to Jesus. NOW WE ARE WAITING FOR THE EARTH TO HELP THE WOMAN AND SWALLOW THE FLOOD!Rain rain on my face
It hasn’t stopped raining for days
    My world is a flood
Slowly I become one with the mud

But if I can’t swim after forty days
And my mind is crushed by the crashing waves
Lift me up so high that I cannot fall
    Lift me up
Lift me up – When I’m falling
Lift me up – I’m weak and I’m dying
Lift me up – I need you to hold me
Lift me up – Keep me from drowning again

    Down pour on my soul
Splashing in the ocean I’m losing control
    Dark sky all around
I can’t feel my feet touching the ground

But if I can’t swim after forty days
And my mind is crushed by the crashing waves
Lift me up so high that I cannot fall
    Lift me up
Lift me up – When I’m falling
Lift me up – I’m weak and I’m dying
Lift me up – I need you to hold me
Lift me up – Keep me from drowning again

Calm the storms that drench my eyes
And dry the streams still flowing
Casting down all the waves of sin
    And guilt that overthrow me

If I can’t swim after forty days
And my mind is crushed by the crashing waves
Lift me up so high that I cannot fall – Lift me up!!!NOW WHO DECEIVED THE WHOLE WORLD????BUT I SEE THE REMNANT!!Rain rain on my face
It hasn’t stopped raining for days
    My world is a flood
Slowly I become one with the mud

But if I can’t swim after forty days
And my mind is crushed by the crashing waves
Lift me up so high that I cannot fall
    Lift me up

I live in a small town of about 40 thousand people, the climate here is of poverty and shame boarded up houses and businesses that have been open as long as I can remember are closed and i have been around since ’67. Their was at one time over 52 thousand. In the mid nineties a few select council members and their friends made a bunch of money thru the section 8 program and literally ruined this town. In my entire county we house 78% of section 8 in my city. Anyway what I’m concerned with is the local armory has about ten humvee’s and about as many covered trailers, when their is usually nothing there at all the grass is still grown and it gives the appearance of being left for mother nature to run her course. Those vehicles have not been there until recently and by looking at them they are fresh and ready for service , another thing that has me saying hmmmm……. Their have been military helicopters flying over the past two days , seen 6 of them today flying together , my point is this place is a dump and why the activity and new vehicles at the local armory. The armory at one time was used for the WIC program that is where welfare recipients went to get their government cheese and milk. In recent years their has not been much of anything going on at all until now, I see a few civilian vehicles there daily plus the new equipment , who knows what may be inside. Anyway it’s odd for this town and this area. Just to let you know that their are unusual things going on in nowhere USA too.

Michael, I found your site a while ago and must complement you on its conciseness and fearlessness to state the truth. In regards to the incarceration of people regarding their views, we really have fufilled the dystopic visions Orwell, Jack Lord(The Iron Heel for the uninformed), Huxley, Zamyantin, etc., portrayed not so many years ago. I have, however, another question to pose to the people who frequent this site, as I just posed it to another site I follow. I fully agree with the need to stock up on virtually everything because of the momentum this society is in, and I am an unapoligetic believer in the Rapture. My question is this…although most believers believe that the Lord IS coming back soon to rescue(yes, I WILL use that particular word) His people, we may still be required to bear persecution and tribulations (NOT THE Tribulation) before He does. at what point do the people of God, who are required to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, cloth the naked, etc., feel the need to DENY ANYONE ELSE BUT OUR LOVED ONES of ANY of this? Everyone wants to stock up on guns and ammo, but I really think you have to ask yourself, do I have the ability to kill someone else in order to prolong my or my loved ones lives, if I really believe I am a child of God? How long EXACTLY are we willing to hang on to this life, when we claim to want so badly to be with the Lord. I am not trying to ruffle anyones feathers here…I am actually looking for an answer. Anyone got one here?

    • madsr

I think you are right online. We as Christians are told to do all those things. I for one will do all those things until I have nothing left, but it will not be forced from me. Mine enemy will not steal it, the entitled will not have it. I think we have examples of simular things happening in Biblical times. No where does the Bible say feed the lazy. Nor feed your enemy. DPDDT will be my enemy. Unlike America I will not strenghten my enemy so he may destroy me. I would not call you wrong or stupid if you choose a different route. But a sheep in the coming times will be slauthered. Will you be a better Christian example sacrificed or standing for right in a struggling world. The Bible gives us both examples as Godly choices in the right place and time. You will have to make that choice. I will protect my family and try to build up our community until Jesus comes. I have fought against Satan my whole life, to me this will be no different. I am a Christian warrior.

At no point in time does Scripture commit you to take leave of your senses. A man who does not provide for his own house is worse than an unbeliever. If each man followed that, there would be no needy in the land. Help as you can, but not to the point of hurting or neglecting your own.

  • Really?

    @Michael A,
It is hman will to survive and when someone is about to take the life of a loved one, see how quickly you will pull the trigger to save them despite the conditions you may be living in. It’s a no brainer.
Survival is innate and that’s why we spend a gazillion dollars a year on healthcare for ourselves , look before crossing the street, etc……
No one wants to die really, if we were all just waiting for the lord to take us away this blog would not exist. We can put faith in the ancient accepted texts, but rational, logical humans having faith, have no clue what’s on the other side so we try to stay on this plane as long as we can even in the face of chronic illness, oppression , whatever.
A mouse bites when threatened with survival.I’m not willing to go quietly, I am a peace lover and don’t want to hurt anyone. I would not harm you for your food but I would if you tried to take that which I have.

    Start with the Sun …

Check out the electric universe theory promoted on thunderbolts of gods site!

What we DO UNDERSTAND is that human societies are being controlled by the people who are the best at being dishonest, and backing that up with violence. That makes EVERYTHING necessarily hyper-complicated, and practically guarantees that our established systems have amplified their risks to astronomical proportions.

It is practically impossible to trust any source of information these days! Most environmental groups, and human rights groups, etc., seem some completely compromised by their funding sources, and so, to be utterly untrustworthy.

Serious efforts to research any topic therefore tend to end up feeling like one is dog twirling around chasing one’s own tail! When one combines that we do NOT understand basic phenomena in nature (although there are lots of people who pretend they do), PLUS that our civilization is actually controlled by the best liars, that total picture makes predicting anything impossible … except to expect the crises will gang up on us, one after another, in wave after wave, from multiple sources!

While civilization gets crazier, and nature goes nuts, it is more and more impossible to separate those two … For instance, watch this video to totally throw the ability to interpret the meaning of wild weather into an even wilder loop-de-loop:!

    “Are you?”

Oh, probably about as prepared as I’m going to get. I’m still buying up long-term storeable chow. Metals are starting to go up, so it may be time to cease on that. There’s still a few things to do while there’s time.

These 8 dangers are all noticeable and obvious. Real “Black Swan” events are events we cannot see coming. For example, there is always the possibility of a new disease, not a known disease like West Nile Virus. And it need not be a disease of humans, for example, a sudden global epidemic of a mold that kills rice. There is always the possibility of a solar storm that crashes our electrical systems, stopping nuclear power plant pumps and erasing all records in all banks. Chaos theory explains that there might be catastrophic global consequences to a beer shortage in Costa Rica, or the President of Botswana getting a divorce, or salt water crocodiles in Australia suddenly disappearing.

Our .gov has ran up huge bills and made promises that can’t be kept, as they know Nibiru is here. This will be a major game changer.
Please, get to an area with at least 2000 feet in elevation and 200 miles from an ocean.
Lay in two years of grub, and some system to protect that andyour family.
    I’v studided this since 2005.
    Sadly, it is real.

Folks, we are losing our Liberties so very quickly. For those of you who love our Freedom’s protected by our Constitution and the Bill of Rights, it is urgent that you contact your STATE legislators and congress men/women to DEMAND to the federal government/judicial branch that all Constitutional matters by legislature or executive order are to be determined (approved/disapproved) by the STATES. The current system of letting the judicial branch determine Constitutional matters is like letting the FOX guard the hen house! The Judicial system is part of the federal government and the federal government NO longer does “The People’s” work. This federal government of our’s is corrupt and has allowed the banking cartel to destroy our monetary system ie sound money. Over the last 200 years we have allowed the judicial branch to determine Constitutional issues and the judicial branch is now corrupt doing the corrupt federal governments interest work. The Justice department stated they saw no wrong doing with the MF Global scandel??? The justice department is doing the corrupt federal governments interest/work. The banking cartel bought and paid our elected representatives to remove Glass-Stegall act, allowing commercial banks and investment banks to comingel funds. The federal government is out of control and needs to be reeled in. The States need to TAKE back control before the FACIST take total control. Marantha

Did you know that kids can no longer have “seconds” at hot lunch? The government has decided that, because we have too many fat kids. This is nuts! Besides the fact that hot lunch is the only meal some kids get.

The issue with the ex-Marine is very disturbing. One has to believe the gentleman from the Rutherford group who said that State and local agencies scooping folks up because of “mental issues” is happening all over the country. Obviously, military vets have been targeted. And, we’re probably next.

My wife and I have decided if this ever happens to us, we’ll just sit there in a mental ward and politely say that we’re not answering any questions, talk to a mental health “expert”, or take a mental evaluation test until our lawyer is present.

This portion of the article is very disturbing, and it should wake everyone up.

    Dear readers,

I have gathered those links for everyone to watch. And to be honest with you they are coming. The governments are aware of this event of December 21, 2012, by NASA. 2/3 of population may be wiped out as a result of this natural disaster, That may explains why they are piling up food and medicine, not just exactly for a possible civil war but more serious planetarium incident, which happens every 3600 years and it is due in December 21st, 2012.

The Government is aware of this disaster, not informing us as usual because of the sudden panic all over. So these are the links.

The second one is very realistic and really scary to think about it, but again just watch and give your comments.

That want is about the preparation of the civil war . .. . . . Government will plan to kill, control anyone soon . .. . . . Very disturbing video…..

Thanks and i hope the author will get more information about those events.

Serious incidents are unfolding themselves and it is not good.

The economic debt problem is ours to solve in the grass roots of the market place. Support and monetize gold bullion.
We can add debt-free liquidity to the economy while allowing that same support to pay down fiat based debts by freeing up debt currency’s return to nothingness. Gresham’s law is reversing because Gresham’s Law is predicated on FIXED bullion values, not floating bullion values that allow
the bullion value to rise in REAL TIME. Bullion extinguishes debt, something more debt cannot do.

  • The evidence to support chemtrails is un real, only 6 months ago I would have been one of the many billions of people in the world that would raise an eyebrow at such topics and now after doing some digging I can not believe the evidence to support. People need to open their eyes, I have recently decided not to immunise my child, over 70’s shingles injetions now to be dished out, Why on eath would the goverment immunise 4 million over 70 year olds against a disease the isn’t techically deadly! Population control springs to mind, the worlds gone mad and the future for my child sscares me it really does 🙁 We are being brain washed by media and unfortuately that will in essence keep the world population asleep, people need to wake up and look at whats going on, To arrest someone and to lock them up for freedom of speech on Facebook is ludicrous,

Economic Solutions That We Were Not Even Talking About At The Beginning Of The Summer.

Monetize personal gold & silver at the grass roots level, organically & bottom-up.

No need for panic. The solution does not rest with the elite who reside near the top of the economic hierarchy. It rests with the rank & file of the real market …. us. We are all able to monetize personal gold & silver and thereby, increase liquidity without adding debt. The addition of debt-free liquidity will free up debt based currency to find the hands that need that currency for debt servicing. IOW, we are in a time where Gresham’s Law is reversing.

Keep in mind that Gresham’s Law is/was predicated on FIXED values placed upon gold, such as what we saw during Bretton Woods @ $35/oz. Gold could never extinguish much in the way of debt at $35/oz, but since bullion values have been set free to float, the extinguishing of debt has been left to us …. the market , not the elite.

The elite participation set the stage for the removal of debt and the return of bullion based currency in REAL-TIME when the fixed peg of $35/oz was severed in 1971. They cannot finish the job and implement bullion based currency by way of any top-down support, however. A top-down process would be too powerful and abrupt which would crash the dollar. The elite are simply relegated to their prescribed role of “carrying the stick” at this point. It’s up to a market driven , organic process to monetize gold …. bottom-up. Follow the script. The bankers have done well playing out the roles of the “necessary evils”.

Many of these are biblical curses on a nation that continues to thumb its noses at God. The marriage between a man and a woman is the absolute foundation of God’s kingdom, from Adam and Eve to the Jewish patriarchs to to marriage supper of the Lord Jesus Christ to his bride, the church after this world is over, and yet our society and our politicians are falling all over themselves to redefine marriage as between men and men, and women and women. The bible is pristinely clear that this is an abomination before the Creator and Judge of all things.

Is it any wonder that everything is withering and collapsing in the Western World? The times ahead will come straight out of biblical prophecy.

Gay marriage has nothing to do with this, god doesn’t punish fool we are doing this to ourselves.

“The marriage between a man and a woman is the absolute foundation of God’s kingdom”

how many wives did King David have? Solomon?

point is that he had WIVES; not a gay orgy like sodom and gomorrah. Personally I don’t care what a couple of queers do in the privacy of their own home, but the constant push to force it’s open acceptance upon society is absolutely unacceptable and one of the major reasons (though there are many) for the decline in moral character. I read an article on another website earlier today, the site for a large newpaper but I can’t remember, nevertheless the story was about an investigation of various high school officials for not properly reporting to law enforcement claims of sexual assault. The article said the victim as well as at least two witnesses had made statements to school officials that the victim, a member of the wrestling team, was sodomized with a soda bottle by two other team members. The really disturbing thing is that these types of stories are becoming more and more prevalent as society continues it’s downward spiral.

The very fact that these two sick perverts decided to carry out the act they did demonstrates to me that the situation with the homosexuals immorality, shoved in the face of the public constantly, is very likely a factor contributing to these disturbing stories.

It is absolutely mind numbing how stupid our society has become. The “powers that be” are very evil, deceptive, yet astonishingly brilliant people. Through incrementalism, expressing control of the five pillars of society which encapsulate almost every potential realm of influence; government, media, finance, education, and religion have corrupted the arts and entertainment (the 6th pillar) in order to destabilize, destroy and control the family (the 7th pillar). If anyone with any common sense or critical thinking skills will take the time to honestly analyze the data at hand it will not take a great deal of effort to realize that the politicians are all lying, they couldn’t care less about you or I so long as they have their money and power. Our economy is now standing on a foundation of sand but just about everyone involved with the government keeps telling us it’s as good as stone. Bullshit.

The fact of the matter is that we all have great decisions to make, both now and in the near future. No one except God himself knows how and when the beginning of the end will pop up, but the important thing to keep in sight here is the puppet-masters fondness for incrementalism should not be forgotten. The sheep of this country have followed every path laid out for them so it is safe to assume this trend would be preferred. There will come a point no matter how things get started, be it some event timed specifically or a random event due to the disintegration of some important variable laying waste to the economy, in which the people like myself and most of the readers of this site are to be dealt with. God help us in these trouble times, it’s only through his grace and blessing that any of us stand a chance. Good luck and Godspeed

  • When I see the word “elite,” the phrase “financial sociopaths” [bullies with means] goes through my mind. As described in the book “Snakes in Suits”, sociopaths are “intraspecies predators who use charm, manipulation, intimidation, and violence to control others and to satisfy their own selfish needs. Lacking in conscience and in feelings for others, they cold-bloodedly take what they want and do as they please, violating social norms and expectations without the slightest sense of guilt or regret.” If you’ve got a better way to describe “power elite,” I’m open to suggestions.
