Is Obama Negotiating A Treaty That Would Essentially Ban All “Buy American” Laws?

Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Google+Share on LinkedInShare on StumbleUponEmail this to someone

69 members of the U.S. House of Representatives have sent Barack Obama a letter expressing their concern that a new international treaty currently being negotiated would essentially ban all “Buy American” laws.  This new treaty is known as the Trans-Pacific Partnership, and it is going to be one of the biggest “free trade” agreements in history.  Critics are referring to it as the “NAFTA of the Pacific“, and it would likely cost the U.S. economy even more jobs than NAFTA did.  At the moment, the Trans-Pacific Partnership includes Brunei, Chile, New Zealand and Singapore.  Barack Obama is pushing hard to get the United States into the TPP, and Australia, Peru, Malaysia, Vietnam, Canada, Japan and South Korea are also reportedly interested in joining.  But quite a few members of Congress have heard that “Buy American” laws will essentially be banned under this agreement, and this has many of them very concerned.  You can read the entire letter that was sent to Obama right here.  Unfortunately, the leaders of both major political parties are overwhelmingly in favor of the Trans-Pacific Partnership, so the objections of these 69 members of Congress are likely to fall on deaf ears.  The Trans-Pacific Partnership will accelerate the flow of American jobs out of this country, and meanwhile our politicians will continue to insist that they are doing everything that they can to “create jobs”.

There is not much protecting American jobs these days.  The “Buy American” laws are one of the last remaining barriers that helps protect against much, much cheaper foreign labor, but now “Buy American” laws are in danger of being banned permanently as a recent article in the Huffington Post explained….

Since the 1930s, the American government has offered preferential treatment to American producers in the awarding of federal contracts. If a domestic producer offers the government a more expensive bid than a foreign producer, it can still be awarded the contract under certain circumstances, but more recent free trade agreements have granted other nations the same negotiating status as domestic firms. The Obama administration is currently pushing to grant the several nations involved in the Trans-Pacific deal the same privileged status, according to the Thursday letter.

The big problem is that foreign companies often have huge advantages over firms based in America.

In the United States, we have minimum-wage laws.  On the other side of the globe, it is legal to pay workers less than a dollar an hour with no benefits.

In the United States, we have thousands upon thousands of laws and regulations that businesses must comply with.  On the other side of the globe, there is often very little red tape.

The truth is that “free trade” is a really bad deal for the average American worker.  In the emerging one world economic system, labor has become a global commodity and U.S. workers must now compete for jobs with people on the other side of the planet.

Since U.S. workers are often 10 to 20 times more expensive than workers on the other side of the world, there has been a massive outflow of jobs from this country.  Treaties such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership will accelerate those job losses.

You would think that our politicians would notice that our formerly great manufacturing cities are turning into hellholes.

For example, the following is how James Kunstler described what he saw when he traveled through Gary, Indiana recently….

Between the ghostly remnants of factories stood a score of small cities and  neighborhoods where the immigrants settled five generations ago. A lot of it was foreclosed and shuttered. They were places of such stunning, relentless dreariness that you felt depressed just imagining how depressed the remaining denizens of these endless blocks of run-down shoebox houses must feel. Judging from the frequency of taquerias in the 1950s-vintage strip-malls, one inferred that the old Eastern European population had been lately supplanted by a new wave of Mexicans. They had inherited an infrastructure for daily life that was utterly devoid of conscious artistry when it was new, and now had the special patina of supernatural rot over it that only comes from materials not found in nature disintegrating in surprising and unexpected ways, sometimes even sublimely, like the sheen of an oil slick on water at a certain angle to the sun. There was a Chernobyl-like grandeur to it, as of the longed-for end of something enormous that hadn’t worked out well.

The economic guts of this country are being ripped to shreds right in front of our eyes.

Overall, more than 56,000 manufacturing facilities in the United States have been shut down since 2001.

That number is so crazy that it is hard to fully grasp.

The truth is that the “free trade” agenda of globalists such as Barack Obama is absolutely devastating our economy.

There are hundreds of statistics which prove this.  I don’t have space in this article to reproduce them all, but if you are interested in examining many of them I recommend checking out the following articles….

When you combine a market that has expensive labor with markets that have ultra-cheap labor, it is inevitable that large numbers of jobs will migrate to the areas that have the ultra-cheap labor.

This isn’t rocket science.

That is why “Buy American” laws are such a good thing.  They help to protect American jobs.

But even if you do not work in an industry where large numbers of jobs are being sent out of the country, the loss of jobs still affects you.  The millions of Americans that are being displaced from jobs that have been sent overseas end up applying for other kinds of jobs.  So they become your competition.  This increases the demand for the jobs that remain and it keeps wages down.

As I wrote about the other day, 95 percent of the jobs lost during the last recession were middle class jobs.  Many of those jobs have been replaced by low income jobs, but you can’t support a family on a low income job.

The Obama administration tells us that the unemployment rate is going down, but the truth is that there are now almost 101 million working age Americans that do not have jobs.

Instead of looking at the “unemployment rate” which is manipulated so much, what I prefer to do is to look at the “employment rate“.  And sadly, the percentage of Americans with a job has been steadily declining.  The following are the percentages of working age Americans with a job during April during the past six years….

April 2007: 63.0%

April 2008: 62.7%

April 2009: 59.8%

April 2010: 58.7%

April 2011: 58.4%

April 2012: 58.4%

Some Americans have decided to escape the lousy job market by going back to school.  Others have decided to retire early.  Yet others have decided to become full-time dependents of the government, and a shocking number have decided to try to get on to the Social Security disability rolls.

But most Americans that are unemployed just want to get back to work.  Many suffer in complete anonymity and many never take a single penny from the government.  They just want someone to hire them so that they can put in an honest day of work for an honest day of pay once again.

Even if you still have a good job, it could be gone tomorrow.  This point was underscored by a comment that a reader identified as “DaytoDay” left on a recent article….

Well, I can relate to this, I just lost my job Tuesday. I worked for Uhaul and on the DAY that I became eligible for my benefits and 401k they canned me, exactly 90 days.

So, it’s just another reminder that those who work for corporations are nothing more than numbers. It’s sad reality, they don’t care if you have a family to feed, they don’t care about your bills, and they damn sure don’t care about quality…

I was notified while working, and was instantly let go, up until that point, there had been no warnings, no emails, no conferences, nothing… They simply fired me to avoid paying the benefits and 401k that was would have been entitled to.

And to think, this is the reward for being a good hard worker?

Other Americans are not able to find any work at all.  This is especially true for young Americans.  Millions upon millions of hard working Americans are graduating from college only to find that the “real world” can be very cruel.

For example, just check out the comment that a reader named “Simon” left on one of my recent articles….

I graduated from a top university just after the Collapse of 2008 (Class of ’09). I had already seen the number of customers at my college job go way down in that year. Got my four-year degree, had good grades, good work record. Now I live in south FL and I can’t even get a job in fast food, there is so much competition for minimum-wage jobs. No one wants to hire me to wait tables or bag groceries because I have a prestigious degree. The only thing I got out of college was 10 grand in debt, which is actually quite small (I came from a poor family, so I got a lot of free tuition to bribe me to be part of the university indoctrination). Good thing I defaulted on my loans a year or two ago or I would be in worse trouble. I just throw out all their threatening letters and never answer their calls- my friend told me it would work, and it did. Of course I’m no longer a “good citizen”- I don’t earn money, don’t pay taxes, don’t have health insurance, my credit is horrible, I’ll never buy a home or a new car—but who cares?

Millions of other Americans that have lost their jobs have been forced to take whatever they can get.  A reader identified as “Gary2” recently left a comment on one of my articles describing what his family has been through….

Check this out—I had 12 years as a good worker (regional manager level position) several promotions-steller reviews-which I kept copies of BTW) regular good pay increases heck I even saved a persons life, got a big award plack for it, pictures with everyone etc and 4 months later was downsized–no warning no thanks for helping them pass many JACHO inspections (I was a regional manager for a hospital chain) nothing. Just that we decided to outsource your entire department and that you are no longer needed.

So now I get to be grossly underemployed making 1/2 of what I used to make with NO benefits. My wife is no longer a stay at home raise the kids mom and is also working. Together we still make less than I did on my own. This sucks.

As millions upon millions of Americans suffer deeply month after month, it is creating a volcano of anger and frustration that could absolutely devastate our society at some point.  A reader identified as “Cinderella Man” left the following comment on a recent article….

If anyone thinks that almost 50 million Americans on food stamps is a sign of recovery and pardon my language but you have **** for brains. The other day I went shopping and I spent $170 on my ten bags of food and I watched a man and his daughter ring up ten packs of cheap balogna he meekly asked the clerk if those were the 10 for 10 deal and she said yes. Then the Dad said to the daughter “I hope you like it were going to be eating it till we bust!” This is what our world has come to. A man is feeding his kid trying to stretch their meager food stamp budget by eating balogna for several meals. I couldnt help but think of the movie of my namesake Cinderella Man with Russell Crowe when his wife was frying balogna for every meal back during the first Great Depression. Ive seen it all in these past 4 years. From beautiful women in souplines and ****** hotels to living in my car and watching inflation destroy all of our lives. We are all 9 meals from anarchy.

Sadly, thousands upon thousands more good jobs are being lost each and every month.

But our politicians continue to integrate us even more deeply into the emerging one world economic system.  Huge numbers of jobs will continue to leave this nation and the standard of living for most American workers will continue to decline.

So have any of you ever had your job shipped out of the country?  Feel free to post a comment with your thoughts below….

You need to learn a skill that can’t be done in a factory or office overseas. You will need to update your skills. That is part of getting prepared for the hard times coming. We can’t compete with low labor rates and no regulations overseas. We can change things by putting tariffs on imports, but you will have to be willing to pay more for the item you want to buy. Tell me now, how many Americans are willing to pay more for most everything to be made in the US. The low price genie is out of the bottle and who will vote for leaders to put it back in the bottle.

  • I live here in Baja California Mexico and commute everyday to San Diego CA to work and I want to tell everyone that NAFTA also has ruined the lives of many people here in Mexico also. Many American factories have relocated here so they can pay slave wages, then many factories relocated to China so they can pay even lower wages. Many Mexicans here were unemployeed after this. then in the southern part of Mexico, family farmers on small parcels were forced to compete with the American mega corporation farms and these farmers down here went under. Also Nafta made it easy for big corporations like Wal-Mart to open up shop here and it shut down many small businesses down here because who can compete with these big transnational corporations. Also China is flooding the market with their junk down here, putting more Mexicans out of work. in a lot of the stores here Things are made in China including baskets and Mexican flags.the job loss here also caused a lot of people to look up north for work. Most people would rather stay here if there was a way to make a living.I wanted to share this information with the American and Canadian people so you all can see that unregulated free trade also hurts people in other countries, not just our own. Most of the people here in Mexico are also against the North America Union, because it will also make things wors here. If it happens they will send the youth here to fight Golman Sacs (the banking cartels) wars and the new government will raise everyones property taxes here and run everyon off their lands just like the USA. The BANANA REPUBLIC.This is not good for Canada, Usa nor Mexico.

Nothing about those loser surprises me anymore. I was stupid enough to vote for him, many in my family were, I guess we’re just some dumb “bitter clingers”.

Not a fan of Romney either, but at least he doesn’t look down on me and at this point at least he doesn’t annoy me as much as the current clown.
I have so little faith in any of these people. I may just write George Washington’s name on the ballot.
This article stunned me, it really did. NAFTA eliminated so many jobs, I did not think they would do it again at even a bigger scale.

  • 007

God bless President Obama. This “free trade” treaty should be the final straw to break the back of the economy. His efforts to destroy this country are truly remarkable.

    • GaryToo

He is very useful for now so will win again, Treyvon Martin could have sparked a Rodney King riot without OhBummer coming out and quelling it before it started. That was so patronizing it was sickening and Im amazed it worked.

  • bobinsherwood

“Buy American” laws are a joke. If you look at Light Rail projects, they all fall under “Buy American” requirements that are easily bypassed by the Siemens/ELIN monopoly as well as others such as Kinkisharyo a Japanese car builder. They even brag about beating “Buy American” rules at their websites!

  • McKinley Morganfield

For several decades it has appeared that there has been a concerted effort to reduce the citizenry to 2 classes. The elites (big business, big banks, and the politicians) and the serfs who are dependent on DC for food, shelter, and the occasional aspirin. We need a national boycott of all things made in China and a nation wide effort to buy as much of our necessities as possible from local sources.

Its going to get hairy as the year progresses. Election results in France and Greece indicate a quickening of the EU crisis.

  • Sam Walters

What’s all the uproar? It is your fault for believing in that bull****** called the “American Dream.” Wake up to reality and move to another country if you don’t like what the transnationals are doing right now in the United States.

    • Michael

How will moving to another country allow anyone to escape what the globalists are doing to the entire world economy?

  • Pat

What a disaster. I have seen the effects of “globalism” up close and personal. Here in Spain we literally make nothing. We have no family farms. They have all been put out of business. We had a large company that owned a bathroom porcelain fixture company that made toilets, sinks and bath tubs. For some unknown reason they closed and thousands of workers were released. If one dare to start his own cake business he must have a series of licenses, certain equipment made in China and be able to withstand persecution by local authorities who feel the need to protect their cousins who don’t want any competition.

It is the same all over Europe. The economy here was deliberately stunted to allow a communistic type society to evolve. Now the same is happening in America. Meanwhile, a frontal assault against the American people is underway. I believe they call it full spectrum dominance. But here is the good news. 1000 years from now this will all be different. These manipulations and criminal injustices will be thought of as the dark age of mankind. The U.N. will be no more. It will be obvious that some ancient characters were wrong and believed in subjecting the population to exploitative concepts that were not in the best interest of those whom they served.

I like the movie Apocalypto. We are like the native persons who believe in all sorts of hocus pocus in order to take what the people had. And the governing authority just continued to steal more and more people to feed their corrupt, insane, out of control appetite.

    • GaryToo

“1000 years from now it will all be different” I say 10 years fom now, I think the bible talks about the devil being locked up for 1000 years so maybe in 1000 years it will all slowly start again. Right now society is seriously sick.

  • Richard

China is NOT “absolutely destroying America on the global stage”. America is destroying itself.
    Protectionism is NOT the answer.
America needs to get with the program and understand that there is NO INTRINSIC REASON why it should enjoy a standard of living way above that of the rest of the world. If America’s living standards need to descend to come into line with other countries’, so be it.
But for Snyder to play crybaby and write like a spoilt brat using the “exceptionalism” of the United States as his prop is, frankly, too pathetic to endure.

    • whteshark

Our country has been nothing but exceptional thanks to some Old White Men who put their money and their necks on the line to save liberty from the deranged clutches of European cronyism.

I can think of any other country in history that rose so quickly and has shed so much blood to keep other men free.

      We’re truly an “exceptional” nation.

But we have overreached and become self indulgent; we have lost the wisdom of the Founders and the Framers.

We were willing to trade liberty for security–which gave rise to the Nanny State.

If liberty dies here, it dies everywhere because no other nation is “exceptional” enough to protect her or spread her message.

Becoming part of a global toilet full of shit might be good enough for you, Richard, but it’s not enough for at least some of us Americans

    • Mal R.

America is NO DIFFERENT than any country, even though MILLIONS of people have been beating the door down go get IN for decades.

If our living standards are above others because we have been so successful and have more disposable income than the entire planet, well by golly we gotta bring that down to what we equate to poverty.

America, THIS is your democrat party.

      • Mal R.

“go get IN” = to get IN.

We are a manufacturing based economy.
Acording to the 1979 numbers that I used to read. When we hit a sustained 15% unemployment rate for four to six months. This would casue our economy to collapse.
Then there was another number, but that would be for another article.

Also thank you for letting me be the first to lead into this well written blog.

    • A Person

Steve: We used to be a manufacturing economy. In 1980, manufacturing was 40% of the US economy. Now, it’s about 9%. In 1950, 8 US states accounted for 36% of the world’s GDP. Currently, the entire nation only accounts for 20% of the world’s GDP. One of those 8 states was Michigan. Detroit was the biggest manufacturing city in the world. It had schools equal to any in the world and the highest median wage in the country. Now entire blocks are fields of weeds ringed by a sidewalk. Some have taken to growing gardens in these areas. Michigan has lost over 1 million jobs since 2001. This is more lost jobs than the other 49 states combined during the same time period. California is the 9th largest economy in the world but I don’t see that lasting because we are going down the same road that Michigan is. We just came late to the party. Michigan and Detroit starting electing socialists in 1962 and they haven’t stopped since. The city of Detroit is a shell. I read an article about how their were literally just a handful of restaurants left in Detroit. Along with the better paying manufacturing jobs, the restaurants were chased out as well. They aren’t content to chase out jobs that allow a good living; they also are actively chasing out jobs that allow a person to just scrape by in life. It’s instructive to note that with only a handful of restaurants left in Detroit that the city council decided that the answer was another tax on restaurants. The last news item I read about Detroit was that automobile leases had been conveniently forgotten about which really racked up the penalties. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that this is just another way that taxpayer money is being funneled to cronies of those int he Detroit municipal government. It isn’t an oversight; someone in Deroit knows full well that this has been going on for years. Action News 7, ABC affiliate WXYZ in Detroit, has so far uncovered 110 cars with expired leases with Detroit taxpayers footing the bill. At a minimum, this has cost the taxpayers of Detroit $4 million. While this croneyistic pocket lining is going on, the police force has had to take pay cuts in Detroit.

its all good, if the big companies or any companies make more money by employing cheaper labour either OS or bringing OS workers here, saving the cost of such things as high visibility vests, steel capped boots, dust masks, safety glasses, superannuation (retirement), holiday loading, sick leave, economic growth from these businesses translating into housing market because they live 10 to aroom, or retail activity because they send their puny pay home, all that does translate to profit for the company. In my dream world we tax the rich business owners harder, make up your mind how likely that will be.

  • Rodster

Wow Gary2 actually left a coherent message without having to be censored for language, that’s an accomplishment. I’m speechless. 🙂

  • Chris

Why is it okay for the government to make me purchase products made in the US instead of overseas, and how does that make any economic sense at all?

    • Mal R.

Because they were empowered in the Constitution to regulate foreign trade.

Perhaps you think that the govt making it very easy to import goods from overseas made by slaves at the same time a US company MUST pay someone like you $7-$12 minimum wage and comply with 100,000 pages of regulations makes sense?

Labor is a WORLDWIDE commodity now. So ask yourself – is it easier to pay a slave next to nothing overseas or pay an American (Who has absolutely NO morals and will sue you when he/she burns himself with hot coffee or will steal you blind) minimum wage? Are you going to work for slave wages? You bet your a$$ you will – Just as soon as the politicians bankrupt the entire country.

  • Kevin2

The core supporters of the President such as organized labor will point fingers exclusively at the Republican Party regarding support for Free Trade and the loss of American jobs. Historically Democrat Presidents have handed over greater de-regulation of the financial industry and more Free Trade with slave labor nations then the Republicans could ever dream of because of the lack of over site of the main stream media regarding the Democrats.

    The greatest myth is:

“The Democrats are trying to keep jobs in the US”.

A good read. Globalism/”Free Trade” is the dirty secret neither party wants to talk about because they are both guilty as sin! The company I worked for 10+ years didn’t outsource to another country, they outsource to another company in the US. I believe they had deep financial troubles and had to make cuts to make the investors happy. Now they just pay another company to do the work for them and they don’t have to pay benefits to their workers. Soon after we got our layoff notice, I was reading an article on the 10 ten signs you could loose your job. One of the signs was when the lawyers start showing up. When I read this article, I couldn’t believe it, just 9 mos prior to that article the company had introduced us to the company lawyer. I guess they were preparing to lay us off at that point. During that 9 mos, we were behind on our work, we worked overtime, they kept telling us not to make any major errors and they even threatened us after 3 write-ups we would be fired. Some did get fired, they were just trying to eliminate as many as possible before the big layoff to avoid paying severance and unemployment benefits. I feel like we were used and we didn’t mean much to them in the end. That didn’t feel good to me.

  • Work.Buy.Consume.Die

Government interference in the economy should be limited to punishing fraud, theft, and conspiracies to rig free markets. Instead they are the ones committing the theft and fraud and colluding with special interests to rig the free markets so that we now have an economy that is heavily socialist / fascists, both of which are slave systems instead of freedom.

Many people think the current economy is capitalism and blame it for the skewed distribution of wealth where the few have most of the wealth. This is an error in thinking. Free markets result in a wide distribution of wealth because competition limits large accumulations of wealth. But when special interests lobby government to pass laws giving them economic advantage, like the banks that lobbied for the Federal Reserve Act of 1913, then competition is limited and the free market becomes rigged in their favor; the middle class has their pockets picked until they are driven down the road into poverty.

If we don’t have truly free, competitive markets, we are not free. It should be evident that the USA is looking more and more like one big slave plantation, with much of the wealth concentrated in the hands of those at the top, a diminishing middle class, and an abnormal number of people at the bottom. This comes from collusion of politicians and special interests. As more and more people become needy, resulting from this deliberate misallocation of wealth, they demand government handouts, and the working middle class is further burdened. If you work and have the fruits of your labor taken from you by force, you are essentially a slave. Instead of being privately owned like on pre-1861 Southern plantations, you are government owned with the same result.

The answer is to restore freedom by eliminating all the laws that either directly of as an unintended consequence interfere with free market competition. This would be most federal laws and many, many State laws. The Federal Reserve Act and the Pure Food and Drug Act at the federal level are two examples. Licensing of professions and corporations at the State level are other examples. Government should stop engaging in any economic activity that can be done privately, operation of government schools being an good example.

The Pure Food and Drug Act?!?!?!? yeah, if you want rat crap in your food

      • Sid Davis

Is that an endorsement of condemnation of the Pure Food and Drug Act? I can guarantee you rat crap and much worse is in your food supply and will be there whether some government politician or bureaucrats claims to be protecting you or if you try to protect yourself. The difference is that you pay a higher price for the food supposedly protected against rat crap by politicians and bureaucrats.

      • Mal R.

You mean that law stopped China from sending poisoned dog and baby food? Uhh, not so much. There’s ALWAYS a way for crooked people to get around beurocracy. That crap mostly affects regular honest Americans so that in the end, they cant compete with those dishonest people.

      • Mal R.

And of course, genius that you are, you know that rat crap is allowed in your food up to a certain amount so please stop lying.

What you’re describing is anarcho-capitalism. I’m all for the anachism part. My question is, how do we know the original U.S. government wasn’t simply an arrangement to benefit the lawmakers and big business of the day? I vote NO to all forms of government. As for capitalism, I think the umbrella of anarchism contains within it any and all tolerable social systems. I do not think everyone is driven to be a hardened capitalist, nor should they be made to be…

Can we outsource the job of this yahoo currently illegaly occuping the White House??

  • Old Man

You can’t sign a free trade treaty with another country and than pass a law requiring your business to buy only America. Do you think your free trade partner is stupid?

If you legislate buy America, don’t sign free trade treaties. And if you legislate buy America, what foreign country will buy your stuff?

  • Gary2

I saw an interesting article about how the Chinease stuff is basically low quality junk and that it is filling up landfills. They were mainly blaiming walmart for the race to the bottom. This seems to be another of the high costs of low prices. $9 toaster breaks toss out and buy another. The GE brand toaster we had while I was a kid STILL works and it was made in the USA! (my younger sister uses it)

    • Rodster

Gary 90% of my replacement car parts I sell come from China. Even car parts from GM are coming from China.

But honestly the Chinese can build top quality stuff if you’re willing to pay for it. I can buy Chinese replacement car parts that will outlast the stuff that’s built in the US and Canada.

      • GaryToo

very true, back in 2002, 10 years ago i noticed how many things were made in china, I bought what i thought were trusted euro brands, bosch, volta, etc, husquvarna, mc culloch, found they were no good. looked closer all made in china. I started saying they were going to take over the world economically, even my chinese friends laughed at me ” come on , u r considered successful there if u save up for years and buy a bycicle”. That was then, now they have taken leaps and bounds in metallurgy. They dont just make sawblades out of mild steel softer than a curtain rod. The honda copies of quadbikes and dirt bikes at half the price are damn good now.
They have no regard at all for copyright or intellectual property, patents. They cloned the state of the art communications equipment of our communications companyt CODAN (australian).
They are in fact the largest supplier of components to the US military, I say a good chance they build in remote control failure on electronics, software.

But there is a real ruggedness, solidity to USA made stuff. Last week i paid about 40% more for a FACET high output electric fuel pump, mADE IN usa, but the output is what it claims unlike a lot of chinese product, and reckon i can trust it not to let me down and cost me more money than i would have saved buying something cheap.

  • jsmith

Again I ask: How many of you who just posted after you read this article drive an American car? I bet you have a Korean, Japanese, German car don’t you? It is Wall street greed and our own fault. And don’t forget our politicians that are selling us down the river. Oops, I see the waterfall ahead. Hungry? Unemployed?

  • Evie

If labor is less than a dollar an hour overseas their currency is different so they can buy more. We do not need more shoddy merchandise as the prices keep rising no matter how cheap labor is. Do you think people feel bad when they do not work cheap? Why dont the elite work for less.

    • Paul

The buyer decides which product he buys?

which is whybn they are buying up huge farms in africa as well as all the rest of their buyout of africa CIA can no longer compete, how about famines for their poor even when it rains? Our own prime minister the other day said we can be “the food bowl of asia in the new asian era”. Sure, farms currently supplying 20 million people can supply 2 billion IDIOT! Well I hope peak oil and transport cost makes that all a non event, so instead of just selling all the jobs to asia and india, they dont sell all our food there too.

      • SCyankee

Don’t forget that much of America’s farmlands fertility (top soil) is either severely depleted and/or utterly dependent on manufactured fertilizers and/or out washed out to sea. Additionally, our climate seems to be changing the most in the grainbelt and South where drought is the new normal.

Africa suffers from the least stable climate systems in the world. Very cyclical and undependable with very little fertile land mass in the temperate (agriculturally productive) latitudes. It can be developed (and exploited) but, Like Asia, it will never be a “bread basket to the world”.

How Young Libertarians Are Saving Conservatism

  • James

My question is this, how do the corporations or elites expect the American People to buy their stuff if they don’t have the money to buy them? It seems like they are shooting themselves in the foot. The American economy is based on people having good jobs with which to make enough money to be able to afford a new car, buy things, Etc. The people in other countries can’t be able to afford what we buy making .50 an hour, so what gives? Americans need to rethink how they are going to make a living in a post-industrial age. As the farmers and country folk migrated to the cities in search of good jobs in the factories, now the middle class and poor will have to think about getting into jobs like farming, localized businesses, anything that will move away from supporting the big corporations. Bartering is a good option that is tax free and easy to do. The IRS would have a really hard time hiring enough agents to monitor and audit all the transactions that come from bartering activities. WE need to face the fact that the U.S. isn’t going to be the way it used to be before.

  • Evie

Nowdays when you buy an american car it could be made overseas. When you buy a foreign made car like kia it is made in the usa. I have a dodge caliber costs the same as a japanese car but resale value is lower. But I do not want an auto that self accelerates and they blame the driver. No money saved and high insurance costs.

  • I Have Said it once and i will say it again there is no one to blame but the american society. What is it going to take for people to understand that the
government of this country does not give a rat’s ass about them in any way, shape,
or form, wake the f@@K up.To sit here and listen to people complain, bitch, and bellyache that life is dealing them a horseshit hand is getting to be to much.
Instead of feeling sorry for yourselves why don’t you do something to correct/and
or to help solve this god forsaken mess. The people of France said “enough” and voted there graverobber out of office maybe the choice they put into office may not pay dividends but at least they made themselves heard and they made a honest effort in doing so.Come november show Obummer and his merry band of crooks that you mean business and vote them the hell out of office and you know what you may feel good in doing so and maybe the results will the same that the people of
France expect which is nothing but anything is better than throwing in the towel
and “givng up”. I am proud to be an american, always have, always will be.

You won’t be prohibited to buy American products – if they are better than other products.

You can inform buyers how products are produced, ie. in prisons in China or the US, or with destruction of the environment, like in the Appalachian Mountains (Mountain Top removal and filling up of valleys), or along the Yangtse.

And then let the buyer decide whether to buy these products or not.

This is not the complete list; it was taken from the 45 Communist goals that found their way down the halls of our great Capitol back in 1963.

Communist Goals (1963) Congressional Record–Appendix, pp. A34-A35 January 10, 1963 Current Communist Goals EXTENSION OF REMARKS OF HON. A. S. HERLONG, JR. OF FLORIDA IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES Thursday, January 10, 1963 .

    3. Develop the illusion that total disarmament [by] the United States would be a demonstration of moral strength.

    15. Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States.

    26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as “normal, natural, healthy.”

(Leviticus 20:13If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.)

    27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with “social” religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity, which does not need a “religious crutch.”
    30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the “common man.”
    31. Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of the “big picture.” Give more emphasis to Russian history since the Communists took over.

    36. Infiltrate and gain control of more unions.
    37. Infiltrate and gain control of big business.

In ancient Babylon their economy was based on usury.

Hath given forth upon usury, and hath taken increase: shall he then live? he shall not live: he hath done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him. Ezekiel 18:13

Article 1 Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution clearly states that only the Congress can print and coin money!

The Federal Reserve Act of 1913 was slipped thru congress during the Christmas break with the majority of it’s members absent.

The Federal Reserve is self serving and privately owned in violation to the Constitution, charging interest on illegally printed money. Money printed from nothing!
In America On June 4, 1963, a virtually unknown Presidential decree, Executive Order 11110, was signed with the authority to basically strip the Federal Reserve Bank of its power to loan money to the United States Federal Government at interest. With the stroke of a pen, President Kennedy declared that the privately owned Federal Reserve Bank would soon be out of business. Five months later A UNITED STATES PRESIDENT, PRESIDENT JOHN F. KENNEDY was MURDERED BY COMMUNIST!

Our own US Congress voted themselves a raise. (But vetoed a raise for those on Social Security) A member of Congress only have to be in Congress one time to receive a pension that is more than $15,000 per month. And most are now equal to being millionaires plus.  If some one in the military stays  in for 20 years (providing that they are not killed in combat before that) and gets out as an E-7, they may receive a pension of $2,000 per month, and the very people who placed them in harm’s way receives a pension of $15,000 per month.

The debt added by the previous 43 U.S. Presidents from 1789 through 2002 combined was

3And I will set my face against that man, and will cut him off from among his people; because he hath given of his seed unto Molech, to defile my sanctuary, and to profane my holy name.

The real question is whether this nation can survive from an economic point of view? With all the various free trade agreements already approved starting with Clinton administration, this new treaty may have the most impact on America. It just seems that most members of the House and Senate just have no understanding of economic, accounting, various social issues, and foreign policies. I’m not optimistic about the future of this country. Maybe the United States is now too big with 310 million people to work effectively.

The United States will eventually respond to all of these issues by becoming completely isolationist. Fortunately, the US military can keep the wolves at bay and the US does have the resources to be completely independent, restore employment, and its industry. The globalization of the economy has resulted in this rapid equalization of lifestyle that is damaging the culture of the US. No foreign countries want to lose access to US markets, US resources, and the US financial infrastructure, so many will say that this is insane. It is simple. We simply cut-off all trade with foreign nations where there is a trade deficit. We do massive infrastructure building and create tremendous hydroelectric projects in places like Alaska, Rampart Dam, and we deploy gigawatts of solar, wind and clean coal technology. We already produce nearly half of our own energy, we could produce all of it within 12 months if we worked like it was 1942. We grow our own food, and build our own cars. We write-off the total national debt and give IOU’s to US bond holders, that will be paid in 20 years, when the economy is sound. We can still be a positive player in the world, but we need to redeploy our military into a defensive posture and quit spending money on nation building. Let them build their own nations. We rebuild our education systems and start innovating again, free from the debt load we have created. We maintain retirement benefits, but control inflation, much as Roosevelt did during WWII. We create a new credit market and make it possible for people to move real estate around. With the ten million foreclosed properties, we require that banks either sell them within 90 days, or lease them out for a maximum of3 years and then sell them within 90 days. This will keep everyone housed. We do job exchanges and ask businesses and corporations to get people working as close to their homes as possible, to reduce commutes. We can give them tax incentives to do this. We erase all state debt and do the same things with the states at the same time. We forgive all student loans, and do an economic stimulus, paid for in printed cash, that does not get recorded and give each citizen $10,000 dollars to bump start the new US economy. During the Civil War many of these things were done to great success. We have to get serious, down and dirty and fix this mess.

  • Steve

Mention the Federal Reserve (FED) and most people, including Americans, will think that you are talking about the financial arm of the US government.

That assumption, however, would be well off the mark.

The Federal Reserve is in fact a private company.

Many Americans also believe that the FED is part of their Constitution.

However, that assumption is also far from true. In fact, Article 1, Section 8 of the United States Constitution actually outlawed such an entity from ever existing –

‘only Congress shall have the power to create money and regulate the value thereof’.

In stark contrast to this statement, the Federal Reserve Bank is owned and run by private individuals and international bankers.

These international bankers have the power, through the United States Treasury, to print money by simply adding ink to worthless pieces of paper.

What is more, they also control it’s value and even loan it to the US’ and other governments around the world, charging interest for the privilege.

This ability affords the Federal Reserve huge amounts of power, despite the fact that their very existence violates the US Constitution.

With that in mind is the Federal Reserve the greatest, and most overt, financial crime of all time?

The Federal Reserve was originally begun with approximately 300 individuals and banks backing it.

Each bought a number of shares at a cost of $100 each.

As these shares are never publicly traded one can only wonder how much each is worth today!

Collectively, the shareholders in the Federal Reserve make up the strongest financial cartel in history.

Each year the Federal Reserve collects billions of dollars in interest payments alone, distributing the profit between it’s members.

The Federal Reserve is allowed to print as much money as it chooses yet pays no interest, fees or charges to the US government.

This ability to literally print as much money as it wants was bestowed upon the FED in 1913, despite it being quite illegal.

The FED creates money and then lends it to individual, companies and governments throughout the world.

Through the banking sector they then turn a huge profit by charging interest on these loans.

The basic tenants of supply and demand dictate that the endless printing of new bank notes will cause inflationary pressures.

This means that the FED could manipulate the money flow in order to drive up inflation and therefore interest rates.

Any other organisation with that sort of power would be under constant surveillance in order to ensure that it wasn’t abusing it’s power in order to commit fraud.

In stark contrast, the FED’s dealings are often concluded behind closed doors and with little to no supervision.

Back in 1913 there had been many failed attempts to get the Federal Reserve Act through Congress.

At this point in time the bankers elected to fund Woodrow Wilson’s attempt to gain the presidency of the United Sates, in return for his continuing support of the FED.

Just before Christmas that year, when most other Senators were away on holidays, one Nelson Alrich managed to get the Federal Reserve Act through with little resistance.

Nelson Aldrich, incidentally, was a grandfather to the Rockefellers.

After his election to the Presidency Woodrow Wilson passed the Federal Reserve Act, only to later comment, “I have unwittingly ruined my country”.

There are a great many commentators who believe that US presidential candidates are now carefully selected and funded by the FED, so that they can guarantee that every new president will be sympathetic to their cause.

Whilst there may still be some smaller shareholders in the FED, it is believed that the Federal Reserve is owned and controlled primarily by the following Central banks –

    1.  Rothschild Bank of London
    2.  Warburg Bank of Hamburg
    3.  Chase Manhattan Bank of New York
    4.  Warburg Bank of Amsterdam
    5.  Rothschild Bank of Berlin
    6.  Lehman Brothers of New York
    7.  Lazard Brothers of Paris
    8.  Kuhn Loeb Bank of New York
    9.  Goldman Sachs of New York
    10. Israel Moses Seif Banks of Italy

On June the 4th 1963 one brave man attempted to remedy the situation by stripping the Federal Reserve Bank of its power to loan money to the government at interest.

President John F. Kennedy signed an Executive Order – No. 11110 – that instantly gave the U.S. government the right to issue currency without going through the Federal Reserve.

This was achieved by granting the Treasury the power ‘to issue silver certificates against any silver bullion, silver, or standard silver dollars in the Treasury.’

In other words, for every ounce of silver held in the U.S. Treasury’s vault, the government could print a certain, and limited, amount of new money.

Under Executive Order 11110, Kennedy was responsible for introducing around $4.3 billion of notes into circulation.

Executive Order 11110 could have been a hugely significant turning point in U.S. history.

In an instant President Kennedy almost consigned the Federal Reserve Bank to oblivion.

If  silver certificates had continued to be issued then there would soon have been a total lack of demand for Federal Reserve notes as the former were backed by silver and the latter backed by absolutely nothing at all.

Executive Order 11110 had the potential to slash national debt as no interest would be payable.

Eventually the government would have repaid all it owed to the Federal Reserve and at that point the Bank would have ceased to serve any kind of useful function.

Just 5 months later and President Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas in what many believe was a grand conspiracy.

Could Executive Order 11110 have cost Kennedy his life?

After all, the Executive Order has never repealed by any subsequent U.S. President and could be enacted at any time.

Why hasn’t any President followed Kennedy’s lead in returning to a monetary system backed by silver?

Perhaps JFK’s assassination sent out a message that was well understood by his successors?

Your income is taxed to pay the the Federal Reserve what they charge for printing money that is illegal and unconstitutional in the first place!

    Income taxes are unconstitutional
Originally income taxes were illegal because the Constitution required all taxes to be apportioned among the states proportional to their populations, not their incomes.
The 16th Amendment, which permits federal income taxes, was not ratified in the same language by three fourths of the United States as required by Article V of the Constitution and is therefore invalid. The approved wording was different in different states and therefore they ratified different amendments! (“Is Income Tax Un-American and Illegal?”, July and August, 1993, pp. 14-16).
The courts refuse to cast down the 16th Amendment even though it was not legally ratified.
