I can remember the 1940s when people with disabilities were shut in a room in a house and some they said where chained to restrain them. It bothered some people who saw war wounded returned to civilian life and they asked that they be sent to a Soldier’s Home,” away from people who were tired of the wartime restrictions and seeing crippled men and women upset some of the home front. More than a few children were euthanised by doctors.

Who would stay in Columbia when the jobs are in Charleston and Greenville, South Carolina? What Columbia has are colleges, Fort Jackson and tourism and the service industry looking mainly for women to work, not men!
