Outcasts: Tonight Tens Of Thousands Of Formerly Middle Class Americans Will Be Sleeping In Their Cars, In Tent Cities Or On The Streets

Economic despair is beginning to spread rapidly in America.  As you read this, there are millions of American families that are just barely hanging on by their fingernails.  For a growing number of Americans, it has become an all-out battle just to be able to afford to sleep under a roof and put a little bit of food on the table.  Sadly, there are more people than ever that are losing that battle.  Tonight, tens of thousands of formerly middle class Americans will be sleeping in their cars, even though that is illegal in many U.S. cities.  Tens of thousands of others will be sleeping in tent cities or on the streets.  Meanwhile, communities all over America are passing measures that are meant to push tent cities and homeless people out of their areas.  It turns out that once you lose your job and your home in this country you become something of an outcast.  Sadly, the number of “outcasts” is going to continue to grow as the U.S. economy continues to collapse.

Most Americans that end up living in their cars on in tent cities never thought that it would happen to them.

An article in Der Spiegel profiled one American couple that is absolutely shocked at what has happened to them….

Chanelle Sabedra is already on that road. She and her husband have been sleeping in their car for almost three weeks now. “We never saw this coming, never ever,” says Sabedra. She starts to cry. “I’m an adult, I can take care of myself one way or another, and same with my husband, but (my kids are) too little to go through these things.” She has three children; they are nine, five and three years old.

“We had a house further south, in San Bernardino,” says Sabedra. Her husband lost his job building prefab houses in July 2009. The utility company turned off the gas. “We were boiling water on the barbeque to bathe our kids,” she says. No longer able to pay the rent, the Sabedras were evicted from their house in August.

How would you feel if you had a 3 year old kid and a 5 year old kid and you were sleeping in a car?

Sadly, if child protective services finds out about that family those kids will probably be stolen away and never returned.

America is becoming a very cruel place.

Unfortunately, what has happened to that family is not an isolated incident.  As rampant unemployment has spread across America, the number of people that have lost their homes has soared.

Today, it is estimated that approximately a third of the homeless population in Seattle live in their cars.

It is even happening to my readers.  A reader named JD left the following comment on one of my articles a while back….

I was laid off from my construction job almost 2 yrs ago was on unenjoyment for over a yr they cut me off last september so i lost my apartment. Since then ive been couch surfing and hotel hopping. Now i occaisonally sleep in my car. I was lucky enough to have a friend with a lawn care business so i can at least put ever increasing gas in my car\house. I hate to say it but i think we will see hoovervilles in the major cities soon. When the welfare & food stamps & all the other govt. programs end the anarchy begins.

Desperation is rising all over America.  Most people had hoped to see an economic recovery by now but it just hasn’t happened.

The phenomenon of Americans living in their cars has become so prominent that even Time Magazine has done a story about it….

For people who cannot afford rent, a car is the last rung of dignity and sanity above the despair of the streets. A home on wheels is a classic American affair, from the wagon train to the RV. Now, for some formerly upwardly mobile Americans, the economic storm has turned the backseat or the rear of the van into the bedroom. “We found six people sleeping in their cars on an overnight police ride-along in December,” says John Edmund, chief of staff to Long Beach councilman Dee Andrews. “One was a widow living in a four-door sedan. She and her husband had been Air Force veterans. She did not know about the agencies that could help her. I had tears in my eyes afterwards.”

Unfortunately, it turns out that sleeping in cars has been made illegal in many areas of the United States.

In many cities, police are putting boots on the cars and when the homeless owners can’t pay the fines the vehicles are being taken away from them.

Venice, California is one place where people have been arrested for living in vehicles.  Venice had been a popular spot for people living in their RVs to go, but police started arresting people that were living in RVs and they began towing away their vehicles. The following is an excerpt from an article that appeared on the Daily Kos website….

They took Eric while he was changing his battery in his car. Claimed he lived in his car. A few days later they went to 3th Street and took his RV because he was in jail and no one moved it for 72 hours. Saturday they did a sweep of 7th and took Bear and his RV. They also took Elizabeth’s RV but do not know if they took Elizabeth but can not find her. The police went to 6th and took the white RV that always parks by Broadway on 6th. Everyday they take 1 to 4 RVs. Very soon there will be no one left.

Once you are down on your luck in America you will quickly find that authorities will try to take everything else you still have away from you.

The United States can be a very brutal place to be if you are poor.

All over America, communities are making tent cities illegal or they are simply just chasing them away.

It turns out that many Americans really don’t like large numbers of homeless people camping out in their neighborhoods.

But many of those now living in tent cities used to be just like you and me.

What is being done to tent cities in some areas of the country is absolutely disgusting.

For example, who could ever forget this video of police in St. Petersburg, Florida using box cutters to slash up the tents of the homeless….

What goes through your mind when you watch something like that?

If you don’t feel at least a little bit of compassion for those people then something is wrong.

You never know – you might be the next one forced to take refuge in a tent city.

In many U.S. cities, it is even illegal to sleep on the street.  If you are homeless I am not sure what you are supposed to do.  In some areas of the U.S. you can’t sleep in your car, you can’t sleep in a tent city and you can’t sleep on the street.

So what should we do with all of the Americans that are being forced out of their homes by this economy?

Should we just round them all up and put them into fenced camps?

Don’t laugh – we are getting closer to that kind of thing every day.

We live in very frightening times.

Poverty is absolutely exploding in America.  The number of Americans that are going to food pantries and soup kitchens has increased by 46% since 2006.  There are 44 million Americans on food stamps.  If it was not for measures like these, the streets of America would be filled with destitute people.

Things are tough out there and they are about to get tougher.

At the beginning of next year, the extended unemployment benefits that have been helping the unemployed during this economic downturn will expire.  Up to now, many unemployed Americans have been able to enjoy up to 99 weeks of unemployment benefits.  Now that is coming to an end.

According to the New York Times, this is going to drain 37 billion dollars out of the wallets of unemployed Americans that are just barely hanging on.

What in the world is that going to do to the economy?

This all comes at a time when it looks like unemployment is going to start rising once again.

Cisco has just announced that they are going to be laying off 10,000 workers.  Other large firms are expected to announce more layoffs shortly.  The number of good jobs continues to shrink.

There are other signs that the economy is slowing once again.  Pre-orders for Christmas toys are way down.  Vacancies at U.S. shopping malls are rising again.  Nearly every major poll shows that Americans are extremely pessimistic about the economy right now.

So why in the world is all of this happening?

Where in the world did all of our jobs go?

Well, it turns out that millions of our jobs have been shipped overseas where the labor is far, far cheaper and it is really starting to catch up with us.

On The American Dream website, I just finished an article entitled “How Globalism Has Destroyed Our Jobs, Businesses And National Wealth In 10 Easy Steps“.  It is a 2500 word essay that explains how globalization has absolutely gutted our economy.  The article will hopefully help you understand why so many good jobs have left the United States and why they aren’t coming back.

Many of our great cities that used to be the envy of the entire globe are now a bad joke to the rest of the world.

The following is what one reporter from the UK found when he visited one of the worst areas of Detroit….

Occasionally a half-ruined or half-burned house still stands to remind you that this used to be a cityscape. Pathetic, besieged knots of surviving homes remind you of what was once here. Sometimes amazing efforts have been made to keep them smart. More often, they haven’t.

Many bear menacing notices warning visitors to stay away. On the door of one, easy to imagine as a neat home with an iron-pillared porch where the head of the family must once have sat on summer evenings, are the words ‘Enter at ya own risk’ accompanied by a crude drawing of an angry face.

I ventured into a nearby ruin, smashed, charred and half-filled with garbage. You have no idea who or what might be lurking in these houses.

But don’t laugh at Detroit.  What is happening in Detroit is coming to your area soon enough.

America is in an advanced state of decay.  The number of “outcasts” is going to multiply as more Americans lose their jobs and their homes.  Millions more Americans will be sleeping in their cars, in tent cities or on the streets before this is all over.

The U.S. economy is never going to get back to “normal”.  What we are living through now is the “new normal” and it is rip-roaring prosperity compared to what is coming.

Please show compassion to the people around you that are hurting right now.

You never know, as the economy continues to unravel it may be you that needs some compassion soon.

We are a sad country. It’s hard to believe this is the best way we can think of to solve our problems.

Thank God I’m an Alaskan! It may be cold here in the winter; but there’s plenty of firewood :). We have vast oil, coal, gold, silver, copper and other natural resources the world will still need and want to trade for. And best of all we got Canada between us and the nightmare that’s going on down there. I’ll pray for the US, but I fear it is all but done for. Alaskan leadership needs to start making plans for entering into defense and other treatise once the US collapses. It will actually be easier for Alaska to utilize our resources and prosper economically once we’re free of the Imperial Federal Government and it’s 9th Circuit Court.

You might not know but when USA collapses, Alaska will become a territory of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

    To mondobeyondo:
Back in 1911, there was room at the family farm for the outcasts of the family. You know… like the Waltons (G’night, John-Boy..). There weren’t rules and regulations against camping out in the woods if you didn’t have family to take you in. There was a LOT more compassion. Which, by the way, if you think people were so much better back then, you’re welcome to jump in the old time machine and go get some of that compassion.

It wasn’t illegal to grow a garden. It wasn’t illegal to barter. Nobody was going to turn you in for taking your kids on an extended camping trip. And nobody destroyed or stole the last possession you had.

So you think there are jobs out there for all of the unemployed, do you? When is the last time you looked at the job listings, or showed up for a group interview for 3 openings at Target? Did you notice the large crowd accompanying you? They aren’t your fans! They’re not looking for your autograph. They are your competition for one of those 3 jobs. In that large crowd, there are people who will NEVER get hired again, by anyone. Why? They’re too old.

Nobody will hire a 60 year old to chase grocery carts when they can get a 22 year old to do it faster. Nobody will hire that senior for a sales position, when a pretty 20-something girl will bring customers in.

Nobody is living the high life on unemployment. Even in the most liberal states, it equals only to about a quarter of what the earned income was. It is NOT what you think. And the people ON unemployment EARNED that right to the benefit! Money was taken from their pay for that program. It’s not a government freebie.

You would do well to take another look at what you’re saying. This can happen even to YOU, in your smug arrogance of superiority and righteousness. Next time you see a homeless person, give HIM your $6.29 – in cash.

    • mondobeyondo

True, society was much different in 1911 than it is today. People had trust in their friends and neighbors. It’s not that way today. Times change… when was the last time you had a visit from your friendly neighborhood milkman or a house call from a doctor?!

And government has stuck its nose in a lot more places, as well. Too many places, if you ask me. Government isn’t the solution to the problem – government IS the problem!!

As to why those over 60 aren’t being hired by anyone? Well, if it’s solely based on age, that’s called age discrimination, and it’s illegal. It’s a violation of federal law to hire a younger person just because they are more attractive, have more “spunk”, or whatever. If older folks have a valid case, they need to call their local EEOC office and file a complaint (assuming the government employees aren’t too busy playing golf).

Arrogance of superiority? Nah. I’m no more superior than anyone else.

  • TheNightowl

I’m still trying to figure out how it is those St. Petersburg, FL, police officers who were cutting up tents thought they had the authority to vandalize property belonging to private citizens. I simply cannot envision a statute under which that behavior is allowed under the US Constitution.

  • Thisvideo

This video was upsetting, not horrifying, but upsetting.
These government workers, “COPS” should have at least ask the city before cutting up the tents, can we at least help relocate them?
This was not thought out at all by any or all of these government workers.
These “COPS” did what good little Germans are told to do.
Remember when you were studying Hitlers Germany?
The good little German people were only doing just what they were told to do?

I know Florida is corrupt and it sees it as NYC sending homeless a one way ticket to St. Peters which in all honestly we New Yorkers do send the homeless on a one way tick to St. Peters, but at least we have compassion when we do this and do not send them to Alaska.

    • v

You understand that Hitler and Germans were fighting exactly against the same people that brought us this disaster?

  • JerryParker

It is too bad, isn’t it, that so few telephone booths are intact and standing. They would provide a place out of the rain or snow for someone (or two) to stand while sleeping on their feet.

  • George Forfa

Good questions in these comments. The issue is control. It is a basic component of human nature that tends toward slavery. One is compelled to make other human beings an extension of himself, and others are drawn into bondage by their physical needs. The illusion of security was broken for me by being monetized and harvested. It is a very rude awakening to be disposed of as property, replaced by different property.

  • NYX

Well, the US is finally getting to experience what they have imposed on the rest of the world for decades. Let’s see how they like it.

  • Tent city

What a golden opportunity lost by St. Petersburg fla. Police, city officials, social service dept. Not only could they have saved these poor homeless by giving them city jobs, cleaning, painting, gardening, in exchange for helping them organize a living area, yeaching them skills to build, refurbish old homes, learn a trade, no instead they took the easy way one way solution…..they cut up thier tents…nice

  • Proeliator53

I think that if/when police tell american families that they cannot live in a tent or their cars when they have lost everything, and have nothing to loose further…..thats not thinking. I have enough common sense to not piss someone off who has lost everything and has children to take care of….police officers who don’t think kinda need to start.

  • Unicorn

This how they divide and conquer. They needed to destroy the tents and stuff to make the homeless totally dependent. It used to be you could put 3 people in a room together and they would figure out someway to survive. Now if you put 3 people in a room together they either argue, talk about Lady GaGa,get drunk and talk sports or some other meaningless subject.Totally dysfunctional.

I’m sure there must be a church in St. Petersburg.Where’s the churches?Time to practice what they preach.

  • Jean

Been there, did that… and seriously, it S*CKS! Last time I was in a situation like that I was in my early 20s, lived for 4 months with my baby in a tent, on an island off the coast of Maine…

    at 60, I don’t care to do a repeat of the experience…

  • Gary2

This is the world of republican conservative wet dream. They think money=virtue and that only the rich matter. You can see that I am right by their plans to cut taxes for the rich even further even though it has never worked in the past. The rich already have low taxes, where are the jobs?

Until we tax the rich and spread the wealth things will only get worse.

BTW-the rich will be taxed hard either peaceably or not, they will be taxed.

    • Elainee123

And the rich will quit working too. They will shut down their business or move them overseas.
They will not suffer, they will have money to live on because they have savings. The Middle class and poor will suffer because unemployment will reach the highest level it has ever been.
This is a fact. Many rich people have already left America, many many more are making plans right now to leave. Then what?

  • Wulfrano Ruiz Sainz

Just move to another town. Don’t stay where there is no more work. Just move on. For example, Las Vegas, Nevada, was a tourist town. Tourists stopped coming to Las Vegas. The money stopped flowing. Many people then switched to California or Texas where there is plenty of money coming in from many different economic sources (not just tourism).

  • Gary2

We’ve all heard the arguments. You can’t tax the rich because they’ll hide it anyway. You can’t tax the rich more because they are the job creators. Higher taxes on wealth will hurt our economy, wait for the trickle down.

I’m afraid I don’t trust the folks saying these things. I’d like to try it and see what happens for myself, thank you.

  • Not naive here

Memo to mondobeyondo about filing with the EEOC regarding age discrimination. First, you have to be able to PROVE this. Do you really think these employers aren’t going to cover their tracks and make it look like it is some other reason than age, when that IS the reason? Like they are going to admit this?
C’mon, if you believe that, you truly are naive.
And what would the EEOC do, even if you could prove it and filed? Oh, probably nothing. Like most gubmint agencies, they are useless, unless it is an issue of skin color. Then, they will be all over it. But not if you are white.

  • the marine

as i see it alot of the homlessnes in america is their own fault if they had saved money paid off their mortage sooner or not even signed for the loan in the firstplace they might not be in the situation the problem here is trying to impress everyone and getting in debt on loans we can not afford i am not for big banks or big government but peolple have to take responsibilty for their own action if can not afford a loan

  • patriot alice

Too big to bail, and too big to fail is the new norm, it’s hard to believe that even though Europe is leading the way to hell because of their high debt, here in the USA we continue to print, borrow and spend our way to hell too. When will they stop? To continue borrowing 2 trillion dollars a year to prop up a false economy is crazy. Huge cuts in government spending and tax cuts for the private sector to create jobs is the only solution, but politics won’t allow it to happen…..

  • Fullfreedom

Well, they’ve built plenty of FEMA camps for just such a situation. Don’t worry, the round up is coming.

  • Don Cordell

the only way to get Justice in our nation is to Elect ME Don Cordell for President in 2012 so I can return jobs to America, so I can deport all the illegal aliens back to their country. We have been suckers long enough, the RepubliCons and DemocRats have led us down the path to destruction. I’m an 84 year old retired on Social Security Citizen who will not lay down and surrender. I am here for America and Americans, long may we survive, if we are ready for a Revolution, it’s time to ReVote, and do it in Nov. 2012. I’ll be here for you, will you be here for ME?

  • Michael

I think this is the tipping point. The US should declare the War on Terror to be over, because the US simply isn’t worth defending any more.

The least bad option would be to let China take over the US and call time on America’s 200-year experiment in liberty. The hard truth is that durable civilisations like China’s have never been free societies. Freedom just turns into sexual licence.

  • Toomanyfakeconservatives

Agreed on the FEMA camps, which are waiting in the wings. I’m an armchair lawyer, and I can assure you this tent cutting incident would make a compelling civil rights case. Hopefully a lawyer has already filed suit.

  • Dustonthebottle

The government is beyond caring about the people…both sides work for who fills their pockets. The problem here is “The American People” need to stand together and take action. 1) we need to limit congress and senate to two year terms only. They are easier to to keep honest and we should vote on if and when they get a raise, after all we pay their exorbitant wage. They should also have the same retirement program, why are they so special they don’t do much anymore except hold us hostage to the whims. Then watch how fast social security goes back to the old age fund…you didn’t put in you don’t get out. 2} How many of you out there know that the income tax is illegal? Go to http://www.TRUTHATTACK.COM the law was never radifed and IRS is not a governement agency.I have worked hard to spreed this info so people will stand up and fight back, we have the legal right to do so. I spend every April at the post office handing out this info so check out the site http://www.TRUTHATTACK.COM I’m not saying taxes shouldn’t be paid, just that the right people pay them. It is stated that your taxed on profit or gain….we the working class only bartor for a living wage. I don’t know about you but mine is a wage thats tough to live on, much less pay these taxes on. 3) We have to stop giving to every country that we fund, close the bases and our bourders, send home the ones draining our systems…And for Gods sake help our own. Feed and house the people that have put so much into this country. 4) AND this the biggest one Stop letting these people that come here change our country… THIS COUNTRY WAS FOUNDED ON CHRISTIANTY and the ENGLISH LANGUAGE, why are we the majority letting them take over and change this once and sitll can be great Country.I’m part American Indian and my people have suffered this before and my other family came from Itlay…they learned enough english to get by and recieved no hand outs. They found want ever work they could even my granddad at age eleven.Back then they had pride and came here to succeed. We need that pride back in our country and if you have been reading closely you understand that it is our own government bring this ONCE GREAT COUNTRY to It’s KNEES. 5) If Companies whant to out source their labor or manufscturing then we Have to taxes them on that because the are the ones making all the PROFIT and Gains…..Please Stand up for AMERICA….Pass this on spread the word…we need to take our government back from them who care so little for the hard working and poor that they feel it is better to see us starve go homeless, uneducated and unhealthy as well as dead, so they can give the rich tax breaks to stay in their good graces……….DUST

It is an embarassment to see postings like this. When one tries to alert others to the forthcoming problems one gets lumped in with folks like Dustonthebottle who consistantly add two to two and get seven. Rational discourse, not ranting is needed if we are to gracefully step back from the brink that our profligate ways (not those of the Chinese or Mexicans or Athiests or Muslims) have brought us.

  • Barbara Rolens

Just finished reading article from mid July regarding people living in cars etc. I would like to share my story with you. My husband worked 40+ years and I have worked 30+ years both of us in finance. When John got the call in 2007 that the company he worked for was closing I went back to work (didn’t need to work because his job provided well for us). Next year he turned 62 and started receiving Social Security. With my income and the SS we were able to eke out a living. Due to vaious layoffs that began in 1997 we had exhausted BOTH of our retirement accounts. Even though we probably should have put $135 into a savings account we gave it to the local rescue mission, the Humane Society, and the wild horse preserve. And we do not regret any of that. Then I lost my job in January 2009 and we knew we had some serious decisions to make. Of course we both sought employment but that just did not happen. At this point we had only about $5,000 to our name. We took $1,000 and went to Ajijic, Mexico for a month. While I was working John had been doing research on a place to retire. So when we returned to Colorado we sold both cars and bought an old cargo van. Then put the house up for sale; it finally did sell later that year but it was a short sale and we made no money from that transaction. During the time we came back from MX until we returned a month later we sold everything we could and gave lots and lots of stuff away. We have been here for a little over two years now and really can not complain. Most of the citizens here are living in poverty and we rent a house which costs half of the SS income. However, had we stayed in CO we would probably be living under a bridge. We’re adapting (John better than I). For example instead of a hamburger or steak on the grill we may have scrambled eggs and fried potatoes or rice and beans. To date we have $500 in savings, no life or medical insurance, but we have each other. Ironically US citizens may want to consider MX and I say ironically because it has been the other way around with Mexicans coming to the USA.

  • Al Broadman

I recently wrote an article about the economics of political clout. Political clout or lack thereof is what gives people influence in this country. It seems like that the people have the most influence are the ones that least need that influence in this country.

See the poor, the disadvantaged, the disabled, the retired, the sick, these people don’t make any money for the powers that be. Honestly said, they are a drain on the social safety network. They are the most vulnerable of our society. They are the ones that need our help the most.

And yet all we hear from the thugs in Washington is how we can afford to help these people. We can afford to give corporations tax breaks that are so amazingly generous it boggles the mind. We can afford to give millionaires and even billionaires tax breaks while they set on mountains of cash which they’re not investing in a productive manner. We can afford to engage in dozens of police actions around the world and yet we can keep our own people safe at home. We can afford to feed millions of people in other countries and yet we can afford to feed our own people. We can afford to send missionaries to build housing overseas but were not building homes for the poor and disadvantaged in this country.

This country has a real problem with priorities. This country needs to start taking care of its own before we worry about taking care of anyone else. This whole situation makes me very very angry and virtually everyone I talk to is angry about it just like I am. When is our government going to start listening to the common man rather than bankers, corporations, and out right predators?

Jim Morrison when asked if he was going to lead the masses to freedom said, “Are you kidding, no, I can’t free the people, they cling to the chains that bind them, those chains are their security”. Paul McCartney said, “the people have the power, they just don’t know it, and so they give it away freely”. Call this uniformed consent.

The logistics of this meaning is we the people of America are not required to use FRN Federal Reserve Notes, but only for payment of taxes. 100’s of alternative currencies already are being used in America. The one convicted, The Liberty Dollar, was convicted for counterfeit only because he used the term Dollar. We the people have been contracted into this corner and the answer is in contracting our way out. End fractional reserve lending as debt slavery:

Bankers would have us believe it is their sole right to conjure into existence our money supply, and they tell government that it should not be in the banking business, and that money creation is best left to banks.

Government should tell the bankers that money creation is the greatest sovereign authority of government, and banks should get out the government business of money creation. This should be a policy referendum to be voted on. Long live the State Bank of North Dakota, and the others that are soon to follow.

With the moral decay of the country, all this concern is not going to change a thing .
The liberals and especially Obama, have proven their determination to bring America down .
Obama is using a Marxis stratigy learned in collage ,and is fallowing his plan exactly. Liberals are too stupid to see the out come except in their fantasy dreams .
Taxes and money for that matter are not the issue, seeing the billions given awaay by them often.
It is control ,the absolute bottom line in the distruction of the constitution, removal of the 10 commandments from courts. By the way law is not baised on truth or justice any more ,it is baised on what one can get away with .
Why do you think is is Obama lies so freely ?
It is the nature of the BEAST.
Most of congress are lawyers and liars ,once in office ,serve their own agenda , not the people who put them there.
With out looking at the reputation of the man ,rather listening to misleading promises liberals jumped on the band wagon, wanting to see a black man in office . Well , now you see the result of this irrisponsible voting , ignoring the reputation of the man. His plan will work and america will go down you can bet on it ,because the liberals support their own imorality ,LIES.
Ever see a lawyer who stopped lieing ?

You have only one choice. You see what the DemocRats and RepubliCons are doing, yet you keep electing them, WHY? I am one citizen, that can Restore not Change America, if you give me a chance. We must return Middle Class jobs and manufacturing back to America. Stop all the imports. Our leaders tell us, China buys from us, yeah, we buy $10 worth China buys $1 from us. Our nation is broke, we only have this next year to ReVote, to ReStore America, or we will surrender to the New World Order, with United Nations troops in power to force us to submit. If you think your little guns will defend America, let me tell you what you can do with those guns when the turn off all of your utilities, turn of the Radio and TV stations, close the bank the grocery and gas stations, stop all mail delivery coming and going, ban newspapers, except publications telling you how to meet government plans for your behavior. YOU will surrender when the SWAT team comes to your door, because they will kill you and your family, so others in your neighborhood see what happens if you resist. Is this the future you want for America, or a pissed off 84 year old man like me to kick ass, and clean up Washington DC? Lets do this before we are all in FEMA Camps and screwed, blued and tattooed, that serial number on your arm, on your kids arms. Do you care? I care, Just google my name and learn What I will do, for YOU.

I’m pretty perplexed by one thought:
Why does anyone act surprised by any of this?

As early as 20 years ago, I remember reading articles that suggested that we’d chosen a collision course with economic calamity. We can only spend government money for so long before the debt grows too high. After that, we have only ourselves to blame for our plight. We could’ve insisted on financial responsibility decades past. We didn’t.
Now the piper is here; we must pay him.

If we’re suffering a lot, it’s primarily because we didn’t prepare at all for calamity.

I am curious: Why did anyone think it’d be acceptable to set up quasi-permanent campsites in any city? That makes no sense. If you’re not able to pay rent, you’ll need to look for a different way to survive. That’s not likely possible in the city.

The video does give me an idea though: If the economy goes far enough “south” for long enough, I guess I’ll throw my camp gear in the car and head for the countryside.
Feeding myself might be awkward, but if things have turned that bad, there’ll likely be enough of us about that we can figure out how to (legally) obtain food.
We’ll simply need to rely more on outdoor skills than we have in the past.

We’ll be OK, but we might suffer for some time.

  • daisy

That guy sleeping in his truck in your neighborhood is probably a druggie, a criminal or someone who who’s out there because no-one in his whole family wants to deal with him. You really don’t want him eyeing your family all day. Call the cops.

    • Ricci

Wow….do you really think that? I am a licensed social worker for 10 years. In 2005 I lost a son & daughter 3 hours after they were born. For 3 years I suffered in pain, still working my ass off, but found I was very ill. After chemo, immuno-suppressants, and a myriad of other medications I could not afford, I went bankrupt and lost my house. By this time, I was awarded disability on the first try w/o an attorney. I wasn’t expected to live. But here I am. I can barely move somedays I hurt so much. I don’t have family willing to take me in. I look fine on the outside you know. If I would just have more faith or exercise more or eat the right foods I would be cured. Whatever. I often worked 50 to 60 hours a week to protect kids from real problems (not taken away for poverty as people say……so sick of the myths about social services). Anyway, before that I worked mental health, and worked in the school district. I have busted my ass to care for other people. My husband left, children died, and when my health failed I lost everything and fell through the cracks. It’s people like me who are homeless…I do not drink. I do not use drugs. I can barely get the medications I need even w/ supplemental insurance. I get stalked and harassed by police if I so much as get tired and pull over so I don’t wreck. I was on my dad’s property in my car 3 times in two months I was approached by police…one time there were 4 cops that came to my car……on our family’s private property. My car has totally been profiled. I’m so sick of it. At this point, I would be better off dead.

    • Ricci

I sleep in my car. I have nowhere else to go. It gets really cold and hurts my bones. I would love love love to go back to work but I was hospitalized 12 times in two years. I wouldn’t be able to keep a job because of my health i’m not dependable. THESE are the people who are homeless. It’s also a LOT of veterans that are homeless. But I sleep in my car. Often on family property and I’m still stalked and harassed by police and I’m sick of it.

Why don’t you call the police on real criminals like the jerk off who gave his daughter meth-amphetamine? Or the man who beat his kid w/ a cattle prod? Or the family who parties all night and doesn’t notice their baby has been rolled over suffocating on the couch and by morning they don’t understanding why their baby is dead? Or the jerkoff pimp from St. Louis driving around in his car w/ his fur coat and gold chains giving over 80 percent of the students in public school drugs? Maybe the cops should be doing real work!!! and let the homeless do what they can to survive and live out what time they have left with a little dignity…the only thing I have left to hold onto is my car. I’ve lost everything else. My ex is an attorney, I went from upper middle class to homeless in a matter of months. It can happen to anyone!!!! Don’t be so high and mighty.

When this Old World starts getting you down. From Pollution the cost of OIL,
Heating Fuel,The Fuel you put in your Vehicles, You Electric Bills from
cooling air conditioners and lights not to speak of the Evil. The TAX that all
Governments Federal, State, County and City put on everything they can thing of.
They are supposed to serve us. Not put a burden on its people. That they are
elected to serve all the people you, not their own Pocket Books.

The Wicked keep putting higher taxes on everything. Making it a Heavy
Burden on many that are already struggling just to put food on the table.
Too many Americans have lost their home to the tax collector or to foreclosures
from the unjust bankers greed. More are out of work and lost their homes then
in the GREAT DEPRESSION,in the last ten years. All Americans and many Nations
need good jobs and more of them. Not more TAXES.

There is a Industry that will employ workers and is growing by more then 50%
every year. There is a clear way for all up on the roof the Sun Light is free
fuel from GOD. Some wicked in Government have been backing Coal, Oil, Gas and
the Nuclear industries for too many years. These kickbacks to them were called
Subsidizing Industry Technology. Most all Wise Men and smart Economist and
Environmentalists call this padding their pockets and subsidizing back to the
    Stone Age.

This might even been funny in the 1960?s. If it were a Fred Flintstones and
Barny Rubble Movie. About How to aggressively systematically work with the rich
to Pollute Ground Water quality to the point it is unsafe to drink or use.
So to they make a law you can only buy water from their pipe line. And to make
the air we breath full of Toxic Gases, Sulfur Dioxide and more Radioactive
and Acid Rain. Injuring all living things on Earth.

With Fred Flintstones to the Rescue. To help create a Healthier Environment.
For all Future Generations. By spotlighting Renewable Energy and Free Energy
like Wind and Solar. On his and his neighbor Barny Rubble’s roof. Even though
the greedy wicked would do everything to stop or slow them down.

Just imagine a dream that a 100 years ago one of the smartest man to ever
live had. A dream after working with Sun Light. That all on Earth would use
    Free Energy Solar Energy.

That Dream also shared by a man that dreamed this over 2,250 years ago.
Both These men showed the world in their days. That this dream of Free Energy
Solar Energy World wide was very possible. Both of these two wise men had
first hand worked and researched their experiments for not just days, weeks
    put for many years.

One of these men used chalk on Black Board the others board was a black
stone table or floor covered with white sand and used a stick. One of these
two Brilliant men had Kings from all most every Kingdom on Earth come to him
    for advice.

The other went to almost every nation on Earth. Freely on his own dime
Teaching All that had ears to hear. He would win the Nobel Prize for doing so.
For his work on Solar Energy. Only after years of doing research and when most
Scientist on Earth would not take the nomination for the Nobel Prize in 1921
this Brilliant scientist was awarded it in 1922 for the 1921 year.

Now if this was just a Pretend TV Show or a Movie from a dream. This would
be a great Sci Fi Story Line. In the 1960?s or even better to day. Sci Fi story
    Movie or dream No.

All that i Have told you did actually really happen. Albert Einstein won the
Nobel Prize for what? When Government leaders asked him to go on stage. To
address the Scientific Community and the World. About what he was given the
Nobel Prize for. When Albert Einstein Had done so. He addressed them with his
other accomplishments. For years most Governments did not have a ear for
    Einstein’s Dream.

Archimedes around 250 B.C. was know most of the World over as a great
Mathematician. One of the first Scientist and Inventor of many things. Even
the first Laser Ray from the Sun’s Energy. Science Fiction is what you would
have though you were seeing if you could go back in time, it was real.To day
we call it The LASER, Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission. Back then it
was just called Amplification of the SUN Archimedes Death Ray.

Thousand of years later it would be a Laser. That Albert Einstein help
make possible. That would unlock one of the first books on Earth.
The METHOD written by Archimedes. Then over more then 250 years later. When
well Faded was cut from a scroll and put into a book form, to be easier to
hide from the Romans by St. Paul. This book sold for over 2 million dollars.
In New york at Christie’s Auction House.

These two are at the top of the list of the World’s Greatest Scientists,
Viewed by Scientist around the World.

Sad that for the last 25 years or so of every teacher asked no matter what
Grade k through 16. 80% of them did not know Archimedes. Even sadder 90%
of them could not tell you what one of the most Brilliant Scientist to ever
live on Earth. Won the Nobel Prize for.

It was for the work Albert Einstein did to show the World it could get
Free Energy, Electric from the SUN. PHOTOVOLTAICS

You ask this question to any Military general 95% of them will get it right.
Even more surprising 99% of them will know more about Archimedes then most
Teachers on Earth. Generals know Energy is the key to Winning.

At almost one thousand to one Archimedes always won against what all knew was
impossible odds. Archimedes home town city of Syracuse was victorious against the
greatest Kingdoms Armies on earth many times. Syracuse once was one of the most
    powerful cities in the World.

I can only ask you to please look into Solar Energy, Solar Power, Solar Panels
and Solar array on the internet under Images. To see and explore for your self
    then you be the JURY.

More then 10 years ago the Internet became most of the World’s Universities
Learning Platform. A Modern Day Archimedes Resource Center.

The Solar Energy Industry in the year 2010 has leaped ahead farther and
faster then any other industry on Earth. The Solar Industry in the
United States of America alone, has grown by more then 50% in 2010 and it looks
like that number will go up even higher this year 2011.

The strong benefits of Solar Energy is Clear Clean Air viewed in major cities
as improving air quality. Clean Cities. By all that use there brain for good .
View it as protecting the environment and Freedom from OIL.

While the Federal Government has eased the Tax on Renewable Energy till the end
of this year 2011. Some cities in the states that these Legislators come from have
    worked against these tax credits.

By doing so they are showing their true objectives. That they have
stock in some power plants and do not want to lose all that Money they
have been taking out of your pocket books for too many years. By taxing
you on your Energy Bills. They want to Control Power and Tax Everything
they can. Not let People be free to get their own power from the top of
    their own roofs.

By adding their own taxes to them. These wicked leaders think that
this will take away the incentives to harvest the Free Energy from the

The Public ability and awareness for all on Earth to use the Natural
Solar Energy, is Contributing to Production of Solar Energy Products.
Making the Solar Energy Industry the fastest growing on Earth. A Wealth
of Free Energy From The SUN.

The more the wicked try to slow the Solar Energy Industry down, it only Enhances
involvement and the efforts of the Good at Heart.

  • Holly

My mother was injured in the line of duty, took 8 years to finally receive compensation (very small compensation). She and I purchased a small piece of land with an existing mobile home on the land. The financing was through the seller not a bank. We were promplty harassed and threatened physically by neighbors who disapproved of the fact that my mother’s source of income was disability. We were always on time with the mortgage payment, always kept the property neat and tidy, but that didn’t matter. For 3 years we tried to stay with our property. But the harassment and physical assaults and vandalism became too much. We put the property up for sale and left. The property was on the market for a year and kept getting vandalized as reported to us by our real estate agent. It became too expensive to pay storage, rent space in an rv park. It was a total loss. This happened in 1996 – 1998. The hatred toward Americans on disability is downright obscene and unconscionable.

  • Holly

addendum to my post: it became too expensive to continue paying the mortgage, home owners insurance And rent in the R.V. park (we thought this would be temporary until our property sold),and storage for our furniture.
So the property was ultimately foreclosed and sold at auction.
I am still amazed by the efforts of neighbors to interfere with our home ownership, even going as far as calling our mortgage holder!

    • Michael

      That is horrible Holly.

I hope that you all will be okay.

It really is heartbreaking to read what is happening to so many of the readers.

Are we witnessing the latter days, of the world’s greatest, and the world’s last, greatest Caucasian Empire? Did the 1950’s in America look like this? Did America really build Oldsmobile’s, Packard’s Hudson’s, Desoto’s Pontiac’s, Nash, Mercury’s, kaiser’s, Monarch, Edsel’s, or was this whole era only a childhood dream I had? Did WOWO Fort Wayne Indiana really have a 50K AM transmitter, was the Rock and country music I heard at my home, just a figment of my mind? Did Bethlehem Steel really exist? Was Detroit, Motown, only in the comic books, like Super man? What happened to Gary Indiana? Big Steel there? Did Chubby Checker really “Twist Again”? 59 dodge wagons have greatest fins ever, and still durable 6 cylinder engines? Evinrude, Johnson outboards really make molded plywood boats fly? Could American made Mercury outboards out-run all contenders? Were Smoke Stacks really a sign of prosperity for all. even the doctors the lawyers, the druggists, the businessmen who depended on labor’s generous paychecks for survival? What of the notion taught in the high schools of the day, that saved money in local bank accounts would double in value in “Seven Years”? Somewhere along the way, we lost even the 45 rpm “singles” Pop songs for less than a buck! Many of us collected those. Where did all the old clapboard farmhouses with huge barns, chickens in the yards go? All to China? with all our dreams? I think not! America evolved away from herself in the 60’s through to today. but how, that is the question, and where can we find the road back? Or can we?

    • WM

Uncle B: That was a great post. You must have lived in that era. I am only 45 years old but really love the 1950’s America. I have a lot of old stuff from that era that I use every day. I try to buy old American products instead of Chinese made crap. I have old fans and lighting that we use every day, and it was cheap (cost) and works great.
I try not to romanticize that era, but I do really love the music, style, and those cars!!!!

Sadly, I personally think this is the end of America. It is simply following the path of human history. Empires rise and they fall…nothing lasts forever. This is because of human nature and mans lust for greed and power. As this wonderful site has enlightned us all by documenting how much we are losing in this nation. Manufacturing is almost all gone here, and government control is getting worse and worse. I don’t think anything will change it, all hope is lost…unless people who live here get together and become united to force change in our government, and I don’t mean in the ballot box. I would love to see how my vote rerally makes a differance, I don’t think it does. It is all in control of the global elite.

I am not advocating a revolution, but I think that may be the only thing that would actually work. The key for me is that WE MUST COME TOGETHER AND BE UNITED IN CAUSE, like the people here did in the 18th C. I have said it before. I know many immigrants who seem to be here for a while for the opportunity to make money and then after they have made their money, will go back to their country. Can we really rely on or expect these people to unite for the cause of saving America?? I personally don’t think so. This is really not their country. Most immigrants I know are not here for the long run, just a “visit” to make money, send it back home and then go back to their country to enjoy the fruits of their labor. And, before anyone rebukes me for being racist, my wife is from Peru, and I know many Latinos and these people are very dear people indeed. I am just writing what I have observed in regards to people being united in the cause to REALLY change America.

Yeah, store food at higher prices now, like Twinkies and Jell-o, rather than buying books on gardening so you can grow your own. You should be telling people to sell their homes and buy a few acres outside of town and putting a trailer or prefab home (and getting extra jobs, taking in borders, whatever they need to do to PAY IT ALL OFF) rather than storing food.

  • Jason Schwartz

The most important thing, I beleive, is for people to remember a song lyric that reaches the heart:

:What if God was one of us, just a stranger on a bus trying to find his way home?” Where is our compassion? What if that were you and your family that had lost everything? What if we all would recognize that often despair comes not only from one’s situation (no matter what caused it) but the attitudes and actions of onlookers. Onlookers should be, in my opinion, DOING something to help make things better. NOT a hand OUT, a hand UP.

I am feeling an extreme need to speak out and do something to be an example of what it CAN be if you simply get in touch with our compassionate hearts and find a solid way to help change this… what good is leaving $ to our children when we die if we destroy the potential quality of life that should be available to everyone?

Doesn’t most crime and despair and drug abuse come from unhappy circumstance and situation? Rarely does despair come from innate feelings. It is circumstances and poor choices and “bad luck” that create that environment of despair…

let’s all do our personal part to make this a better world– or our legacy to our children and grandchildren will be nothing more than hypocritical rhetoric, or as many say, politics as usual. How can we say “it’s not your responsibility” if someone’s life is in despair!

I belive we are a family of man, and if one of us suffers or doesn’t “have”, we all should feel a deep longing to continue to help, rehabilitate and lead by example. THAT is a legacy that our children can pass along to their offspring and contribute to a future worth living and sharing. Otherwise, man does not deserve to survive….

pretty sad when you need to convince people to respect unfortunate people by telling them that they might be homeless sometime. because people dont give a ********** unless it might be them. thats how self centered and evil people are.

  • Ricci

But one thing is for sure…..God didn’t bring me this far to drop me. I may be sick. I may be homeless. I had nowhere to go and no one to turn to. So I started writing music. Hopefully one day I can sing about having a home surrounded by family and some miracle cure for lupus. A girl can dream, right? I have my education and my dreams and no one can take those away.

Sad but true. Those with jobs don’t have a clue as to what is going on around them and they’re as evil as snakes towards the no-longer-haves. A couple of the congregants at my church asked for prayer for jobs and the pastor said that their condition was probably a result of not being right with God. I don’t go there anymore.

I wouldn’t say Americans “enjoyed” their unemployment benefits. They were just relieved to have something coming in.

  • Thissalantine

My heart breaks for these people, it genuinely does, and I am sorry for all of them that what I experienced so many years ago is now so common in America. It’s sad to see so many suffering the way I did. Let’s hope there’s more people to help than there were when my family and very life was ripped apart by heartless soulless neighbors, the church I approached for help, the social worker who took my children and cited poverty as an excuse to do so.

My heart goes out to each and every person out there in crisis.
A short story: I was walking out of the grocery store and was approached by a woman raising money for the homeless. When I asked her the name of her organization, it turned out it was 30+ miles away! I asked why? She said people living in this county were receptive, caring and listened to her.
In her county, she was treated rudely, horribly!
My county happens to be officially listed as 1 of the 10 most affluent counties in America. Her county can be characterized as having many people 1 paycheck away from homelessness.
It appeared to me [a big generalization based upon this one conversation]the closer people are to losing everything, the nastier they become thus the communities outlawing homelessness and destroying camps.
[we also have homeless people in this county – god bless and care for each and every one of them. They are part of my community and not to be forgotten.]

  • Thissalantine

I hope people listen to this: Storing food is just silly. Seed for growing will ALWAYS be available, so unless you stock up on Twinkies, storing food is just dumb. Growing food is easy, and easy to learn if you don’t know how. There are about a million (or more) articles on how to online. Smart money says get a second job and pay your house off. Not down, PAY IT OFF so it can’t be taken. Plan on relatives joining you, too, when they lose their homes. My in-laws are on the verge of losing their home. Fortunately for them, my husband and I have been planning for that to happen for 5 years, and are now in the process of buying them a home. We also have formed a company so that my father-in-law will have a good paying job when he and his wife arrive. I realize everyone was living high ten years ago, and I am sorry so many have lost so much, but now’s not the time to give up, it’s the time to work harder, pay off bills, quit eating out, cook at home, start a vegetable garden, get a second job, CIRCLE THE WAGONS. The rodeo’s just begun, folks, and those of you who are prepared will not have to worry about tent cities.
