The Obama Nation: Even More Debt And Even More Store Closings

Well, it is time to raise the debt ceiling again.  Right now we are about to hit the current limit of $15.194 trillion and the Obama administration is going to ask that it be raised by another 1.2 trillion dollars.  Unfortunately, Congress has already promised not to stand in the way, and so soon the debt limit will be raised to a staggering $16.394 trillion.  Considering how much debt we have already placed on the backs of future generations, what is another 1.2 trillion dollars?  After all, if we are going to sell our children and our grandchildren into debt slavery, we might as well go all the way, right?  Such is the thinking in “the Obama Nation”.  During “the Obama Nation”, the federal government has already accumulated more debt than it did from the time that George Washington took office to the time that Bill Clinton took office.  Of course the Bush administration was nearly as bad at piling up government debt.  Between Bush and Obama (with a big helping hand from the Federal Reserve), they have done a pretty good job of wiping out the financial future of the United States.  If there are future generations of Americans, they will look back and curse those that did this to them.  It is absolutely immoral to steal trillions of dollars from future generations.  Unfortunately, there are very, very few members of Congress that are even objecting to this madness.

Today, more debt just seems to be the answer to everything.  The truth is that debt is not just a government problem.  We are a nation that is addicted to debt.

As of October, total consumer credit in the United States had increased for 12 of the past 13 months.  We simply have not learned the lessons of the past and we are making the same mistakes all over again.

We are living in the greatest debt bubble in the history of the world, and this false prosperity that we are enjoying is simply not sustainable.

But even in the midst of this false prosperity we are seeing a huge number of store closings.

For example, it was just announced that Sears has decided to close between 100 and 120 Sears and Kmart stores.

Once upon a time, Sears was the dominant force in the retail industry, but those days are long gone.  Sears stock has declined more than 45 percent so far this year, and many are wondering how long the company is going to be able to survive.

And there have been other high profile store closings announced during this holiday season as well.  A while back it was announced that all Syms stores and all Filene’s Basement stores will be closing.

Will we all eventually be relegated to shopping only at Wal-Mart?

In the middle of this “economic recovery” that Obama keeps talking about a staggering number of retail stores are closing up shop.  The following is a list of store closings in 2011 that I recently found.  The first number represents the total number of stores being closed for each chain….

Sadly, it looks like things are going to get even worse next year.  One consulting firm is projecting that there will be more than 5,000 store closings in 2012.

The United States is piling up unprecedented amounts of new debt at a time when our economy is dying and our ability to produce wealth is diminishing.

All over America right now, poverty is absolutely exploding.  Millions of people that never dreamed that they would have to reach out for help now find that they have no other options.  The following comes from a recent article in the Fiscal Times….

For years, the food pantry in Crystal Lake, Ill., a bedroom community 50 miles west of Chicago, has catered to the suburban areas’ poor, homeless and unemployed. But Cate Williams, the head of the pantry, has noticed a striking change in the makeup of the needy in the past year or two. Some families that once pulled down six-figure incomes and drove flashy cars are now turning to the pantry for help. A few of them donated food and money to the pantry before their luck soured, according to Williams.

“People will shyly say to me, ‘You know, I used to give money and food to you guys. Now I need your help,’” Williams told The Fiscal Times last week. “Most of the folks we see now are people who never took a handout before. They were comfortable, able to feed themselves, to keep gas in the car, and keep a nice roof over their head.”

But not everyone will ask for help nicely.  As the economic numbers continue to get worse, desperate Americans will lash out in wild and unpredictable ways.

The following is from a local NBC station down in Texas.  In the days to come, this type of report will become quite common….

A 19-year-old Houston-area man says he was beaten and a friend was slashed in the face as a group of men robbed him of his new pair of expensive Air Jordan shoes.

We will also see more mass protests and more mass riots as the months and years roll along.  This country is going to become increasingly unstable.

Check out this video of a massive brawl that erupted inside Mall of America the other day.  Soon scenes such as this will become so common that they will not even be newsworthy anymore.

In response, many Americans will get sick and tired of waiting for the police to protect them and will take matters into their own hands.

In fact, we are already starting to see this.  For example, just the other day a store clerk down in North Carolina knocked a would-be robber out cold and then forced him to clean up his own blood after he woke up.

There are millions of Americans out there that are not going to put up with a whole lot of nonsense.  When desperate criminals try to rob from their homes or businesses it might not end well for the criminals.

Of course it would be much nicer if the federal government would do some things to actually fix the economy and avoid some the problems that are looming on the horizon.

Ah, but that would interrupt their vacations.  Right now, the U.S. House of Representatives is on vacation until mid-January.

If you can believe it, Congress does not work for most of the year.  Normally they are scheduled to be in session for about a third of all the days on the calendar.

And Obama is certainly taking it easy.  He is enjoying yet another vacation.  As I wrote about yesterday, it has been estimated that the Obama Hawaiian vacation this year will cost somewhere in the neighborhood of 4 million dollars.

Yes, it is tough being the head of the Obama Nation.

Sadly, a lot of Americans still have faith in these jokers.

According to a Gallup poll that was just released, Barack Obama is the most admired man in America by far and Hillary Clinton is the most admired woman in America by far.  If you can believe it, Barack Obama has held the top spot for men for four years in a row, and Hillary Clinton has held the top spot for women for ten years in a row.

When are we going to learn?

Someone once said that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Well, the American people keep sending corrupt politicians such as Bush and Obama to the White House and they keep expecting things to get better.

It just isn’t going to happen.

If we stay on the current path that we are on, there will be a lot more store closings, the economy will continue to crumble and government debt will continue to skyrocket.

Minor changes are not going to cut it.  We need massive changes on a fundamental level.

Unfortunately, neither political party is offering massive changes.  The Republicans and the Democrats just keep offering the same tired solutions and they keep promising that they can “fix things” if we will just send more of them to Washington.

Hopefully the American people will wake up and see through these lies because time is running out.

Due to this false belief, they cause the world’s pain and suffering.

    The truth is that these idiots are not very good at doing anything other than advancing politically through backstabbing and ganging up with one another to abuse others, and depend on the ones they think are less talented to do it for them. Take Joe Biden for example. Come up with your own list.

Anybody who thinks voting in 2012 will solve our problems is delusional. This nation is about to implode and no politician, no matter how good, won’t stop whats coming, they won’t even slow it down. America is where it’s at today because it has forgotten the creator, and gone it’s own way. Whether you believe in God or don’t believe in God, you cannot deny the fact that America has become a moral cestpool. Take the 10 commandments from the schools ( 1963 ) and what you have are succeeding generations since then, where society has gotten exponentially worse with each passing generation. What was once unacceptable to the grandparents, has become the norm with the grandkids. The moral boundaries are being redefined or erased altogether. When a nation forsakes God, Romans ch. 1 will always result. This is exactly what you are seeing now. The economic mess, the political corruption, the fragmenting of the family, the entitlement mentality, and a host of other problems from STD’s to overcrowded prisons and the list goes on, these are merely symptoms of the disease, and it’s going to be terminal unless the great physician Jesus Christ is sought. Read Romans ch. 1, even if you don’t believe the bible, read it, and read America’s demise as it’s happening.

            Why teach them atheism? This too is a religion. Why teach them about the theory of evolution because this too is a religion? Why teach them about homosexuality? This too is a religion.     People should not doubt that all this borrowing and deficit spending can go on without consequence. We as a country will eventually have to pay every dollar back with interest. Obama continues to want to live high off of the credit card and blame someone else when it is cut off.

    Everyone thinks Ron Paul’s foreign policy is not main stream. I believe we will have no choice but to adopt it in the next few years. We will be too broke to be the worlds police man.

      I disagree with Ron Paul in that a nuclear Iran is a problem for the world. I also think that we need to reduce our presence overseas dramatically, though I would not close all our bases. But I think that we could do with 2/3 less bases…
      That said, I fear my Gov’t much more than I fear terrorists or foreign nations. He is also the only one serious about returning to the constitution. He is the only pol talking about actually cutting spending and returning power to the states.
      Sooooooooooo even though I disagree with the guy about his foreign policy, our main problem is domestic…and he is the only guy who will try and deal with it…Vote Ron Paul

    Morality has nothing to do with it, future generations will simply shrug and refuse to pay. Think about it… the only way that the US government can pay this debt back is by raising taxes. We can quibble about whether to tax the rich or tax the poor, but let’s suppose somehow they figure out how to tax everyone, at double the current rate. Suddenly the incentive for anyone to work and pay taxes just goes out the window. The rich won’t be able to stay rich if no one wants to work for them.

    Default is the absolutely inevitable outcome, and it’s gonna be a biggie. Almost certainly their chosen vehicle for default is going to be inflation. We are just circling around to see who goes under first.

      Looks like to me if they can wave a wand to create money without even printing it, they can just wave the wand and cancel the debts. I am an ignorant person however.

      I think global government is of course coming, although I believe nations will ostensibly remain sovereign (we are transitioning to this even now, this isn’t a crackpot theory but reality.) I also believe we will transition to a global planned economy and perhaps a global credit system rather than cash currency.

      There will be millions killed and imprisoned who rock the boat, but it will be a boon for most. The people will worship the one who gets us out of the coming collapse mess. Literally.

        Yes they can “wave the wand and cancel the debts” and the name for this is a default. For example, the US treasury could simply refuse to pay back any bondholders, it’s been done in places like Argentina.

        I think it highly unlikely that this will happen, but in principle there’s no reason to stop it from happening.

    Tax the rich and spread the wealth. Here is my hope for 2012:

    Obama will easily be re-elected he has no real competition. He will then be the progressive we thought he was in 2008 and abandon his conservative policies and govern from the left. 2012 will be the year of taxing the rich hard and spreading the wealth more evenly. This will then put more money in average peoples pockets (taken back from the rich scumbags pockets who stole it from us in the first place) who will spend it thus generating demand and UE will slowly come down.

    The nightmare scenario would be for the repubes to win anything but given the imbeciles running I am not worried.

    I hope we get a new new deal program to usher in years of prosperity. We on the left are getting rid of DINO’s like Ben Nelson just like the tea baggers did on the right.

    Very frightening. Watching the debt increase at such speed makes me think about the “hockey stick” on an exponential graph. You don’t know you’re in trouble till the last moments and by then it’s far too late. I hope everyone is preparing the best they can. I’ve been pretty careful to prepare, but I could be doing a lot better. My new year’s resolution is to cut out all unnecessary spending and really buckle down.

Military surplus stores are being asked to monitor people who shop at there stores so all I Can say
    people is that we are in serious trouble and there is going to be hell to pay for down the road.



    Just curious, but what is the average wage at these dead end jobs stores anyway? Looks like the last bastions of disaster capitalism have now gone by way of the Whigs…………And the sooner the better!

    (1) The US government is going deeper into debt.

    (2) Multinational corporations are accumulating vast amounts of cash.

    (3) When it is time for the US government to default, guess who will bail out (take over) the US government?

    (4) Guess who will finance the US military to maintain order?

    Multinational corporations truly believe that a “New World Order” with them in charge instead of sovereign governments will be the answer to the problem of world instability.

    Most politicians have already signed on to the the New World Order. Instead of being politicians from a given state, these politicians are representatives from one or more corporations in the same state.

    After the coming economic collapse, the US government will announce that they have “contracted” with private industry to get the economy moving again. Later we will find out that our government has been replaced.

    The National Debt

    Considering how much debt we have already placed on the backs of future generations, what is another 1.2 trillion dollars? After all, if we are going to sell our children and our grandchildren into debt slavery, we might as well go all the way, right?

    Two thirds of the national debt is owned by Americans. Our new government will simply default on this part.

    The Republicans and the Democrats just keep offering the same tired solutions and they keep promising that they can “fix things” if we will just send more of them to Washington.

      I have read several comments that say Ron Paul is the only repub worth considering. Has no one heard of Buddy Roemer?
      I know that the media has a virtual blackout on coverage of Roemer but I would think that people who come to this site would have knowledge of him. If Roemer was as well known as some of these other assclowns, he be able to easily beat Obama in the general election.

The reason I have no money is because I have to pay insane taxes on my house, which I supposedly own. Food is expensive, heat is expensive water is expensive, so I use the little cash I get at my 10.00 dollor an hour part time job to pay those things. I REFUSE top use any type of credit card or get another mortgage! Don’t put everyone in the same bucket of debt junkies. Know who you are talking about be fore you talk about them.

These numbers would be more meaningful if we had a comparision between the volume of store closings this recession with the volume in prior recessions. Otherwise we are just overwhelmed by the immediacy of the problem and can’t put it in perspective.

    Great article. I like the part about the store owner fighting back. There are a lot of Americans out there who legally own firearms, and they are getting sick and tired of loser criminals trying to take what is not theirs. As the economy gets worse, crime will increase, and I am sure we are going to see more would be crimes stopped by citizens fed up with criminals and the incompetant judicial system(at least here in New England) that does not correctly punish law breakers.

    It is so ironic, the government wishes to strip the 2nd ammendment rights from law abiding citizens, but funny how criminals with long records almost always seem to have a firearm on them?????

    There will not be a fix for the spending problem that we have in this country. Any pol that runs for office and says that they will cut the amount of your government check will not be elected to office. That means our econmic bus is stuck in a spending rut with the tires removed. We are traveling on the rims with the bus going over the cliff. A change in parties can only slow the speed a little. I have given up to hope for economic change. Now I hope for liberty, but that seems to continue to fade into the sunset also. I guess we better start to hope that more will start to prepare and help out others.

    Pity the poor Maytag repairman. It used to be, back in the day, this guy was bored to death because Maytag products were so reliable, they never needed to be repaired.

    Now, the Maytag repairman is not only idle, he’s unemployed. Forced out by Wal-Mart and Best Buy selling foreign made products, like their “Panda Fluffy and Clean” washing machines. (I made that up. Hope you know that.)

    Quality has taken a back seat to affordability. Is it a fair trade-off? Weeelll… would you want an American made washing machine that lasts 20 years? Or a Chinese made one that lasts 5?

      you got that right. I read that the new flat screen TV’s are only designed to last 3-5 years. We recently had to purchase a new clother dryer as the old one of 22 years had a lint fire and it is not fixable. The applicance guy said that the new ones are not even close to the quality of the old ones.

      Way off Topic but:

      As an aside-everyone needs to check their dryer where the vent comes out of the back of the dryer and clean up any lint accumalition. The fire was contained to the dryer and nothing else was damaged but it sure could have been a lot worse. Recommend checking this every 2 years.

If we can’t contain our present debt addiction I’m afraid this generations deficits are going to be the least of our children’s problems.

    According to Mosler, Cullen & MMT folks, the US debt is not a burden to future generations since there is no question of paying it off. The bind market is only a monetary operation and is not needed for financing a sovereign currency issuer. All you have said is truly applicable to private debt but not for public debt. Households and governments are completely different accounting entities. US, Japan bonds are no wonder considered default free and priced to that reality. This doomsday on public debt default is a bogeyman. However, all your points related to economic collapse with regards to what is happening in the private sphere and also in Euro (all currency users) is definitely worthy of consideration

    With Sears announcing the closures of more than 100 stores, the future does not look good for ths company. I like Sears, but it does not change the fact that they are losing cuntomers. If Sears were to file Chapter 11 bankruptcy two or three years from now, it would have a major impact on the American economy. As for the national debt, the European financial crisis, unemployment rate, home foreclosures, a possible worldwide recession, illegal immigration, and many other economic and social problems, in my opinion 2012 will be worse than 2011.

So isn’t this a sign that maybe the false economy of good purchased on credit is stabilizing? And we will be left with only the stores that supply the real needs?       Once upon a time, Sears had great products, at a great price, and American-made. No cheap plastic…just good quality products that lasted for generations (like Maytag appliances). Such stores closings may in fact make it that only Walmart will exist. I guess in hindsight, the movie Demolition Man should have referred to Walmart instead of Taco Bell! HA!

    Video games for the most part are on the wane. Again, most games can be played online. Besides, game stores like GameStop have been ridiculously expensive for many years so I dont feel sad that they are dying.
