Will 2012 Be The Year That We See Mass Starvation In Africa? 12 Signs That The World Is Running Out Of Food

Tonight millions of American families will shovel huge piles of food into their mouths without even realizing that starvation is rapidly spreading in Africa.  Right now Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya are experiencing the worst drought conditions that they have seen in 60 years.  Tens of thousands of African families have abandoned their homes as they desperately search for food and water.  Hundreds of thousands of farm animals have died because of the drought.  Considering the fact that approximately two-thirds of the people living in the region "make their living by raising goats, sheep, cattle and camels", the word "catastrophic" just is not sufficient to describe what is happening.  Every single day, thousands more head to Dadaab, the biggest refugee camp in the world.  Dadaab was originally designed to hold 90,000 people, but now over 360,000 precious people are camped there.  In addition, approximately 30,000 desperately hungry people are standing outside the fences waiting to be admitted.  It is projected that by the end of the year there will be over a half million people living in Dadaab.  Sadly, this is just the beginning.  According to the United Nations, there are already 10 million people in the region that are facing severe food shortages, and many fear that if the drought continues we could actually see mass starvation in Africa in 2012.

Hopefully the world will be very generous as they hear about what is happening in the Horn of Africa.  But the truth is that food is getting tight all over the globe.  Last summer an unprecedented heat wave caused Russia to put restrictions on the export of wheat.  Some of the key agricultural areas of China, Pakistan, Brazil and Australia have experienced unprecedented flooding over the past 12 months.  Natural disasters have hit U.S. crops hard in many states as well.  Crop diseases such as UG99 wheat rust continue to spread.  The world continues to lose topsoil at an alarming rate.  Things simply do not look promising.

Meanwhile, the price of oil has absolutely soared over the past year.  The methods that we use to produce and transport our food take a lot of oil.  If the price of oil continues to climb that is going to make it very hard to feed the entire planet.

Most Americans have no idea how desperate things are becoming in many areas of the globe already.  Just check out what a recent article in The Guardian had to say about the situation at Dadaab....

Every day 1,000 Somalis stream across the Kenyan border to Dadaab, which is full to bursting with 367,000 people and already constitutes the largest refugee settlement in the world. They arrive malnourished and dehydrated but – after a walk lasting weeks – grateful that they have made it to a point where they will get food and water.

Sometimes words alone are not enough to convey an accurate picture of what is really going on.  Take a couple of moments to watch the video posted below.  Imagine if you and your family had to go to a camp like this....

Sadly, the suffering is not limited to one refugee camp.  There are millions of Africans that are now in danger of starvation.

A recent article in The Telegraph described how bad things are getting in parts of Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Djibouti and Uganda....

"Two consecutive poor rainy seasons have resulted in one of the driest years since 1950/51 in many pastoral zones," Elisabeth Byrs, spokeswoman of the UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs, said. "There is no likelihood of improvement [in the situation] until 2012," she added.

A lot of these people don't have any money.  If aid was not rolling in from elsewhere they would be dropping dead all over the place.

Food prices are rising so quickly in these areas that it is becoming difficult for anyone to be able to afford to buy food.

TEAR Fund executive director Steve Tollestrup says that food prices in the region are really getting out of control.....

"For example, yellow maize prices in the Ethiopian Jiiga grain market had risen by 117 per cent from May 2010 to May 2011, while white maize at the Mandera market in Kenya had risen by nearly 60 per cent."

In some areas of the Horn of Africa we are starting to see food riots.  For example, the following is a very brief excerpt from a recent Reuters report....

Kenyan police fired tear gas to disperse people protesting in the capital on Thursday against high food and fuel prices and a shortage of maize which has enraged many in east Africa's biggest economy.

When people cannot even feed themselves they have nothing left to lose.

Today, there are approximately two billion people that spend more than half of their income on food.

So what are they supposed to do when the price of food doubles?

Are they supposed to spend every penny they have just on food?

Most Americans have no idea what it is like to have to scratch and claw just to survive each day.

There are hundreds of millions of people around the globe that are engaged in a desperate struggle to survive.

Meanwhile, the speculators and the big Wall Street banks feel no guilt at all when they drive up the price of food in order to make a few extra bucks.

Look, the truth is that what we are seeing in Africa right now is just the beginning.

When the global economy crashes, things are going to get a lot worse.

Right now a significant percentage of the global population can barely afford to buy enough food to eat.  Most people do not realize this, but when the global financial system totally collapses there is a very real possibility that we could see mass starvation.

The following are 12 signs that the world is running out of food....

#1 More than 3 billion people, close to half the world's population, live on less than 2 dollar a day.

#2 Over the past year, the global price of food has risen by 37 percent.

#3 Just about every major agricultural commodity has been skyrocketing in price.  Check out what a recent Bloomberg article had to say about what has been happening to many key agricultural commodities over the past year....

Corn futures advanced 77 percent in the past 12 months in Chicago trading, a global benchmark, rice gained 39 percent and sugar jumped 64 percent. There will be shortages in corn, wheat, soybeans, coffee and cocoa this year or next, according to Utrecht, Netherlands-based Rabobank Groep. Prices also rose after droughts and floods from Australia to Canada ruined crops last year. European farmers are now contending with their driest growing season in more than three decades.

#4 According to the World Bank, 44 million more people around the globe have been pushed into extreme poverty since last June because of rising food prices.

#5 Sadly, rising food prices is not a new trend.  According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, the global price of food has gone up by 240% since 2004.

#6 To a large extent, this global food crisis has been brought on by the greed of the wealthy.  A study by the World Institute for Development Economics Research discovered that the bottom half of the world population owns approximately 1 percent of all global wealth.

#7 The average income per person in the poorest countries on the continent of Africa has fallen by one-fourth over the past twenty years.

#8 It is estimated that over 80 percent of the world's population lives in countries where the income gap between the rich and the poor is widening.

#9 Approximately 1 billion people throughout the world go to bed hungry every single night.

#10 Every 3.6 seconds someone starves to death and three-quarters of them are children under the age of 5.

#11 It is estimated that the entire continent of Africa only owns approximately 1 percent of the total wealth of the world.

#12 According to the most recent "Global Wealth Report" by Credit Suisse, the wealthiest 0.5% of the global population controls over 35% of all the wealth on the planet.

Those of us that live in wealthy countries have it really good.

We get to shovel huge amounts of food into our faces whenever we want.

But eventually things are going to change for us as well.

Global food supplies are getting really tight.  If something does not change we are going to have some real problems.

Renowned investor Jim Rogers recently put it this way....

"We’ve got to do something or we’re going to have no food at any price at times in the next few years."

We all saw what happened during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and during the aftermath of the tsunami in Japan.  When a major crisis occurs, food can disappear from store shelves overnight.

The frightening thing is that global stockpiles of food continue to go down.  Just check out this report from a recent Financial Post article....

Global stockpiles of corn, the most-consumed grain, are forecast to drop to 47 days of use, the fewest since 1974, data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture show. Inventories are declining as demand continues to outstrip production that’s forecast to rise to a fifth consecutive year of record.

Most Americans simply do not understand how close we potentially are to a major global food crisis.

Hopefully we will not see one any time soon.

But you might want to get ready just in case.

Just so long as I can buy pizzas (with anchovies) I don’t care ! LOL..
Seriously though, this is a multi-faceted problem that is predominantly due to mankind’s own unchecked population growth, greed and stupidity.
I’ve seen quite a few documentaries and a large amount of other info showing just how bad the global food bowl situations are.
Every major food bowl is in serious decline as a result of drought, salination, pests, pollinator decline or monocropping collapse.
Couple all that with peak oil (or more correctly peak energy) and you have 7 billion people trying to survive on a planet that really only supports 1-2 billion without adversely affecting the ecosystem.
We only have ourselves to blame. We CAN cope with natural disasters if there are enough resources to go around, but there aren’t enough to go around due to unchecked population growth..
Governments are only now talking about population issues so it’s w-a-y too late. A food catastrophe will invariably hit before they do anything.
    Reality:1, Common sense:0

    • Jesse

Over-population is not the cause of any of our problems. We were commanded to go forth and multiply by our Creator. There are more than enough resources on this planet to provide for all our true needs. The problem is the greedy taking more than they need and not sharing with others. The problem is those who love money more than loving people that they cheat to gain wealth at the peril of their fellow man.

      • DownWithLibs

Yes, I keep hearing how this “over-population” mantra is a terrible rumor. I also notice that all of those happy to tout it are not volunteering to make an exit to make more room for the rest of us!!!!

      • AnG

so very true! thank you you are the first com-mentor that i can say is human!

  • Gary2

I think all the right wing scum bags would be right at home is these countries. No government interference in their lives. If they hate gov so much MOVE!

    • Josh

I think the left wing scum bags would be right at home as well. Just think of all the poor uneducated people they could get votes from just by giving them food and entitlement programs. Looks like these countries need more big government.
Hey Gary2, you are richer than all these people. I hope you are taxing yourself and spreading your wealth to them. That is your motto right.

    • William

Gary, most of these people’s problems can be linked directly to their own governments. In a significant part of the world and most of the third world, the government is run as a benevolent organization that benefits the ruling class.

    • bobbobbobbob

      u r so right

    • Prepping for the Future

I think the left wing nutcases should move there and prove there communist utopia well save lives. Come on Gary prove to the world you leftist can save lives. Oh that right you don’t really care about anyone but yourself. You are the radical lazy left wing nutcase and just want to make America a 3rd world country. Don’t worry you have SS oh wait Billy Bob Clinton spend that all to give us a budget surplus.

      • Otown Right Guy

Gary2 wants to turn the entire country into Detroit. This is the end result of leftists in complete control of an American city.

    • El Pollo de Oro

how sad to know all of this.

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

    • http://doug-lamb.blogspot.com/ TK

AMEN Erik, Nothing speaks truth like scripture.

When times get tough, do not forget about helping those who are less fortunate than you.

      Thomas

    • Rhinehart Fox

Thank you Erik for bringing me back to where I should be. I was sitting at my desk, eating my very adequate lunch and thinking mean thoughts toward Gary2 for his inevitable marxist rant. Now my mind is back on track with the fact that only God can fix this mess. Gary, you are right in the fact that it is all greed that causes these things. “The love of money is the root of all evil.” Your mistake is in thinking that it is confined to the rich. Evil resides in all of our hearts and can only be rectified by our benevolent Creator. He has given us plenty of opportunity to make things right and we continue to show our total inability to do so. As long as we are in charge, it will be a mess. And, for what its worth, people have been starving since the beginning of recorded history. It is not a phenominon that you can link to just to over-population.
Finally, I can’t resist asking, Gary2, how much do you give to help the starving? I know that I make my meager contributions to efforts in Haiti, Serbia, and to help the destitute in Israel (which has many impoverished immigrants). This conservative scumbag is doing what he can and still provide for my own family.

    • AnG

      AMEN…so glad to see this!

  • mondobeyondo

It is difficult, if not impossible, for the average American (or Western citizen for that matter) to understand what true hunger is like. Our stores are full with every type of meat and produce you can imagine.

What would happen if some of those Dadaab refugees were to step foot inside a Wal-Mart grocery aisle, filled with produce of every size, shape and color? Corn – you want corn? There’s a whole bin of corn on the cob, and here comes the store clerk to add more! Rice – that’s in aisle 7. You can have 5, 10, 20 pound packages, take your pick.

It really makes you think. As Americans in general, we are so disconnected…just a few news clips of starving people in “those countries over there”, and then it’s back to eating that Big Mac or pizza. We can buy 4 or 5 ears of corn on the cob, for the amount of what half of the world’s population lives on each day. A T-bone steak would be 3 or 4 days’ expenses.

We have no idea how truly blessed we are.

    • Just me

exactly right, most Americans are stuck in their own little world and think of nothing except quitting time, payday, and how they can screw the system out of more money.
you could have a Bar-B Que with 12 Americans and 6 would be talking about their new gas guzzeling SUV or camper, the other 6 would be wondering who was going to go get more beer, no one would even mention all the food they just ate or the food left over that was setting there in the sun going to waste, they just take food for granted. We need more that a wake up call which the embargo of 73 should have done, but it didn’t, soon as the price was right and people got used to it, business was right bact to normal.

      • http://4good JJ Roberts

I think it’s wrong to generalize about how all Americans or all lefties or all in their right minds do or think. We are uniquely different. For instance, I’m a rightwinger BUT NOT a scumbag, I live on a very modest Disability Retirement Annuity, raise grandchildren and try to get my desert plot to produce a few edibles to help offset esculating food prices, Can’t always afford gasoline for the older model vehicle. We pray and have much compassion for others less fortunate. We contribute to various causes when possible, but always, always Thank God for His abundant Mercy and Grace.

  • KB

The USDA keeps saying lots of corn is growing this year, but if you read what the farmers are saying, it is basically that the USDA cannot be trusted to tell the truth. Some of the farmers’ quotes are along the lines of “Yeah, we got lots of corn if you count the crop that’s under water or the one that got planted too late to harvest in the fall.” Not to mention some of the corn that was counted was apparently corn they are growing to feed their own livestock. The farmers are also talking about how short the height of the corn is. I know corn is only one crop, but it’s a big ‘un. Go to the ground-level agricultural sites if you really want to know what’s going on.
The four horsemen come to mind. Has anyone else noticed how many bugs are out there? I have been running into what I could call “bug rain” because it sounds like rain when the clouds of bugs hit the windshield. And it’s all kinds of bugs.

    • Ben Dover

I have seen the pathetic corn crop in central OH myself. Next year will be suckish.

      • moses737

Why Ben Dover? Why will your corn crop be suckish next year? Have those devils been messing with you? Or have they been mixing your crop with their deadly Monsanto seed crops? Either way; these devils that I have been talking about for years will be swallowing fire and brimstone in the very near future. So serve God and believe Him to give you a bumper crop. And remember; the God that we serve is a God of miracles.

    • Just me

If people had paying attention to all the flooded ground in some areas and droughts in others plus how much the gov is paying farmers not to plant, they wouls know someone is lying.

    • Otown Right Guy

No. I have not noticed any more bugs than usual in Florida. I have noticed a few Marxist insects infesting the comments on this site.

    • Juliette of Ohio

KB is absolutely right. The bug situation of out of control and we have nothing to fight it. Guinea Hens, anyone??? However much I might be in sympathy, I can’t understand why these are “precious” people. Why are they more “precious” than any others? When the human species becomes a form of locust, starvation is the ultimate end. Not a religious philosophy, but a harsh natural truth. Yes, you’re supposed to feed and shelter the hungry, but I, for one, am barely able to pay for our own family. Maybe if there were fewer taxes, there would be more money left for charity. We’re certainly feeding and entertaining the Obamas in high fashion and I’d rather feed one poor person (even if they’re white and not a correct minority) then send Obama and Mega Butt on another expensive vacation.

  • Michelle

“Most Americans have no idea how desperate things are becoming in many areas of the globe already. ”

Nope, but most Americans can tell you how pissed off there are over the Casey Anthony verdict. But, that’s all the media talks about.

    • moses737

Yes Michelle – the new world order antichrist beast system are masters at distractions. First it was Weiner, then it was something else, and now they have selected Anthony to get off. A year ago; they blew up their own oil wells in the gulf so that they could say that there isn’t enough oil; and they could justify the gas prices being at $4 to $5 a gallon.

These devils will be tormented horribly in hell because they have robbed the nations of their wealth and have caused so many families death (our military men and the death of 100′s of thousands in Iraq and Afghanistan) and everywhere. But I digress.

  • 007

Dear Federal Reserve bank and central banks:

I hope that these poor starving people get a glimpse that you are creating these ever rising prices food prices that killing them. Hell of a job with your central planning and utopian society. May you reap what you sow. Enjoy your **************.

    • moses737

Yes 007!! They shall reap the fire and brimstone of hell. Their mouths and their tongues will be on fire and they will suffer for trillions and trillions of years in the greatest agonies imaginable for what they have done to mankind for 2 centuries now!!

  • 007

As tragic as this is, it is why grain and food commodities will be good investments in the future. They may fluctuate but will continue to rise. Imagine how high the prices can go if the banksters actually get hungry. Oil, grains, gold, guns will unfortunately be very profitable. No mystery where to invest. This recent dip in commodities is over. It appears gold, commodities and the dollar are rising at the same time. That appears to be a major market shift and is not good for anyone in the long run.

I believe this may be the first sign the market doesn’t care what the dollar does. It wants to eat

Help your family, neighbors and these poor people as you can but protect yourself as much as possible.

    • moses737

True 007. But who will have the money to invest in food commodities when everybody is struggling to survive. And these antichrist devils know this. But when they are weeping and wailing and agonizing in the greatest tormentings imaginable; then they will finally realize that God saw everything that they have done to His people.

The fact that humans can show indifference to the suffering of others is I think one of our greatest failings as a species.

I remember this piece of dialogue from the Star Trek episode “The Immunity Syndrome” –

SPOCK: I’ve noticed that about your people, Doctor. You find it easier to understand the death of one than the death of a million. You speak about the objective hardness of the Vulcan heart, yet how little room
there seems to be in yours.
MCCOY: Suffer the death of thy neighbor, eh, Spock? You wouldn’t wish that on us, would you?
SPOCK: It might have rendered your history a bit less bloody.

Even if there occurs a revolution, and the current tyrants are overthrown, this isn’t the end of this vicious cycle. Luckily, our global civilization hasn’t been destroyed, and there is hope that we may as a species break out of this cycle someday.

  • http://survivalistboards.com Sierra Dave

Call me what you will. But a great part of Africa’s problems is do-gooder Christian types who first cried tears of sorrow 50 years ago or so. Weeping over all the deaths from disease. So America sent over the meds. Yay.

Flash forward 20 years later. Tears of sorrow. All these starving children from the population explosion. Africa needs food. America sends food. Yay.

Now don’t get me wrong. I understand they also have possibly one of the worst climes to try and survive in.

But they also have a stinky culture that advocates female genitalia mutilation and rampant child rape to cure aids.

Gene Roddenberry was right in his Star Trek Sci Fi stories. The Prime Directive applies here. Don’t interfere.

Oh! Prep up while there’s an abundance of food available.

A worldwide population of 500 million people.

Have not the “elites” clearly stated that achieving, and maintaining the figure cited above,as their goal of top priority?

This “goal”(shudder),certainly headlines over at the Georgia Guidestones.

Mass starvation, and the disease that it will spawn,is simply a far more cost efficient and method than bullets, bombs and man made plagues.

And,as a bonus, starvation provides the “elites” with less accountability and all kinds of scapegoats to pawn the “tragedy” off on…. God,the climate, the current popular or unpopular -ISM,their petty puppet dictators, manufactured wars, burger eating middle class westerners and especially the “heedless” reproductive habits of the “useless eaters” of the world.

“In the event that I am reincarnated,I would like to return as a deadly virus,in order to contribute something to solve overpopulation.” – Prince Philip,Duke of Edinburgh – August 1988

Philip,Philip,Philip..more imagination please. Just withhold food from “them”,it’s far more profitable.

We can all talk about the problems that the Fed and government have created, as we should. The wealthy are buying farm land in Africa. This will make things go from bad to worse over there. The food grown on these large farms will be exported to countries outside of Africa. One thought to consider is what can I do to prepare if food is in short supply in the US. You should purchase long term dry pack food in #10 cans. This is insurance against inflation and shortages. Learn how to cook with your supply and incorporate the food into your diet. Learn how to grow a garden and learn to can your extra in glass jars or how to dry some of what you grow. These are skills that you need to learn well before a crisis happens. People that know how to grow food will be in a better position than a service sector employee. Start small if need be, but start now.

  • Brandon

I feel terrible about all these starving people. I really do. But what am I supposed to do, feel bad that I live here and not there? I can’t afford to help anyone, I have a wife and 2 kids I need to feed on a pretty small salary. I don’t feel bad that I was born in this country either. I appreciate what I have and I live within my means. While I do feel very sorry for starving children, maybe these people should not have children when they are dirt poor??

  • emptyhandkiller

Very simple answer here…. STOP REPRODUCING until you can support a family. As soon as an idiot comes across a few seeds to eat, his next thought is sex. They have NO food, and they will NOT stop breeding. I have zero sympathy for any of them. If we must help them, let’s give them recipe books on cannibalism, so they can eat each other.

  • Otown Right Guy

Careful. Gardening is now a crime.

“Who ever will eat all this food?”
(A Philippino friend when he went into an UK supermarket)

40% of all food produced worldwide is thrown away before it can be bought.
How many people are obese? Especially in USA, UK, China? Supermarkets in Germany rather throw the food into the dumpster when the sell by date is over than reducing the price. And by state regulation they are not allowed to give it to starving people.

When my friend watched people shopping in the UK
“No wonder everybody here is so fat.”

There is enough food and there is still enough money in western countries. And now even in China.

    • Otown Right Guy

I think you missed the point of the article. Yes the third world is in trouble right now. But soon the rest of us, except for elite, will be too. Wages are going down, prices are going up, and wealth is more and more concentrated. Citing the quote from the article:
Global stockpiles of corn, the most-consumed grain, are forecast to drop to 47 days of use, the fewest since 1974

  • Paul

Whart are people buying when the economy is going bad?

    Gold.

They should be buying food instead.

Who will give food away for Gold, when everything crashes?

I believe Dr Kissinger had a phrase for many of these people, “Useless eaters”.

The power elite don’t want the people residing on the surface of Africa they want the resources below it. It’s interesting how many diseases came out of Africa and how much strife is there. It is probably the greatest dumping ground for the infamous AK-47 in the world. Accidental? Maybe; like cancer is an accident from smoking.

As a diehard NFL and the season (hopefully) approaches I have to wrap my head around the thought of Peyton Manning and Tom Brady roaming the streets digging through garbage cans after the collapse.

Their dollars will be as worthless as mine and I doubt they’re prepared or have their shelves stocked.

Strange to think of all the celebrities who will be starving.

    WOW!

    • Tim

If we experience hyperinflation, that’s exactly what will happen. It won’t matter if you make $25,000 per year of $25 million per year. But it’s hard to say whether we’ll have deflation or hyperinflation. We could have one followed by the other. It seems to me that the only way for the federal government to service it’s debts and finance future budget deficits is by monetization, i.e. money printing.

  • Lincoln

corn was created by nature as food. the studies already are out there that we just have to decide to put a stop to producing any corn for ethanol because this method of producing fuel really is not a cost effective process. why only all talk AND NO ACTION about oil in shale and algae as cost effective producers of oil. PLEASE, LET CORN BE FOOD.

  • SuzanneL

What a STUPID STUPID article. All hand wringing and no suggestions to solve it. If anyone thinks the problem is “overpopulation”, let him/her be the first to kill themselves. If Africans are starving, and I have my doubts there is any truth in this article at all, it would be because they spend their attention and energy in tribal warfare, rather than building something of their continent. Just like the Middle East. They should look outside themselves and see who it is who is profiting from their perpetual wars. The war in Libya is about keeping Africa enslaved to the IMF — http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUaX1vcujg4

By the end of this year the world population will reach 7 billion as a complete number; is there any room left for all those newcomers?!? We’re in a middle of an economic crisis, a debt crisis, a moral crisis….this’s why i’m thinking that the global elite will create a mass disaster to contrast the increasing number of people on this planet

  • Maria

    This makes me angry.

There is NO EXCUSE for this to be happening anywhere in the world today. We have the technology…we have the know how…we have the resources to eliminate starvation and dehydration. America, we built Las Vegas, a mega city in the middle of the desert. It can be done anywhere in the world…maybe even on another planet.

The only reason people are still starving and dehydrated is because we humans still allow ourselves to be ruled by the few people who consider themselves to be the ruling class. We still allow profit driven corporations and banks to decide what is worthwhile and what is not. There is no charity or humanity behind their motives. It is all about profit and power.

If they didn’t believe Agenda 21 would profit them and give them more power, then Agenda 21 would not exist.

Agenda 21 is a scheme just like central banking, fiat money, NAFTA, GATT and numerous other schemes they devise.

Until humanity stands up against tyranny and corruption, we are destined to continue making the same mistakes and suffering the same horrors.

Excuse me if somebody else already said this in response to your post. I haven’t had a chance to read all the responses.

Interesting point. I keep thinking how anyone who owns any kind of Gold or silver will overnight be richer than most snob athletes like lebron James.

Food and guns of course are the first priority when preparing.

Just since 1960, the world’s population has gone from 3 billion to 7 billion. Just since 1999, it has gone from 6 B to 7 B.

    Aha… the answer is obvious…

    Abstinence.

I’ve been alive for 30 years and people in Africa have always been starving, this isn’t something new. I guess for the price of a cup of coffee a day, blah blah blah.. It didn’t work. Africa will never work.

I think I remember Glenn Beck saying that this was coming oh about two years ago and to start stocking up on food. And then everyone laughed at him.. He also said that the Middle East would revolt and they would try to unite in a Caliphate or Kalifa (sp?).. And everyone laughed at him. We’ll they’ve already had three Caliphate conventions around Europe this year.

For a crying, maniac, racist, nut-job, bible-thumper.. He seems to be right about some pretty important stuff.

It’s all George Bushes fault! Dick Cheney! Halliburton! Racism!

This is a welfare camp. Refugee camps are not open for 20 years. If we didn’t feed them they would not be there.

I’ve been to some refugee camps and there is no way to be that clean. Everyone in the video was clean. While it may look like a camp to you and me this is UN public housing.

When the government cheese ends these nomads will go some place else.

How much money has America pumped into this camp in the last 20 years? Sorry folks but we have big problems here at home and we need to cut off all aid to other countries.

At any given time in our world there are about 192 countries. America is supporting or sending aid to 155. Most of which hate us. How stupid are we?

All of the food from California and many other American states is CONTAMINATED with radioactivity.

What the lemmings don’t know WILL hurt them.

Yet the lemmings were still letting off fireworks on the 4th in a gruesome burlesque of what once was America.

The tests on soldiers in the 1950s, the radiation from ALL of those tests of nukes in Nevada, the government KNEW the wind would bring it over Utah. That is why John Wayne, Susan Hayward and others filming Ghengis Khan all got cancer.

Sorry guys!! But 2012 is the year that the International Banksters/Illuminati puppet masters will probably bring about the economic crash of the whole world. They have moved the date up because of those who relate this type of information on the internet. Yes! The internet and the information super highway has caused these devils to become extemely paranoid and wanting their Luciferic kingdom now and not later.

But don’t worry. Those of us who are with God should never worry. Because our heavenly Father will take good care of us. Even though the devils mentioned above will martyr and kill those of us who won’t take their zombie making and mind controlling mark of the beast chip in our forehead or hand.

And if you take their Mark (chip) you will be tormented 24/7 because it will mean that you have joined Satan and his antichrist beast leader; according to Revelation 14:9-11. Serve God now so that you can enjoy the renovated and beautified Earth when Jesus returns with His mighty angels to conquer them and have them all screaming and yelling their heads off in the greatest tormentings imaginable.

Ah, yes, another article designed to make people guilty for where their mothers decided to give birth. I’m not going to be made to feel guilty because someone 4,000 miles away is dying. That makes no sense. We should stop feeding ourselves 24 hour news headlines about the gloom and doom that isn’t directly affecting us. There’s reasons people stop watching the news…and that’s because the depression and stress isn’t worth it.

  • GoneWithTheWind

Your hope that the world would be generous highlights the problem. Imagine if Bono and all the other do-gooders didn’t “save” all the Africans over the past 10, 20, 30 or so years. The populations there have quadrupled and in some places are ten times greater. So now the effects of cyclical droughts is multiplied by a factor of 10. Food supplies are consumed faster, water is used at greater rates and the capacity of these lands is being exceeded. The ancient system allowed mother nature to control and limit the populations. Man’s “generosity” has destroyed that balance. The only answer seems to be exponentionally more “generosity” which will result in exponential growth in populations , which will require more and more “generosity”, ad infinitum.

For as long as I can remember, we’ve (the US) been trying to help starving, disadvantagd people around the world. The Concert for Bangladesh in 1971. Live Aid in ’85. The International Red Cross, and many others.

The result? Bangladesh – still poor.
    Africa – still starving.
Haiti – still a wreck a year and a half after the quake.
Indonesia – still recovering after the tsunami.

We can’t help these people unless they help themselves first. At least TRY! Just don’t sit there with an outstretched hand asking for help. Plant a few beans and water them – you might get some food for your family in a couple months. Quit asking Uncle Sam for help, if you aren’t willing to pick up the pieces yourself.

(besides, we’ve got our own problems to take care of)

re:#6 To a large extent, this global food crisis has been brought on by the greed of the wealthy.

-No it has not. The creation of wealth is not a zero sum game. The global depression and the resulting lack of cheap food were caused by the government fiat money system, government debts and government regulations. The book ‘meltdown’ by Woods makes that crystal clear.

The desire for wealth is a good and ambitious thing. The worlds none government wealthy satisfy that desire with business work and investments, which Lower prices through competition, not raise them.

Blame business and the ‘greedy wealthy’ for the government caused depression, and the new government restrictions thus created will cause starvation all the faster.

  • BMM

How racial the overtones are in so many of these comments? “Breeders,” “let them die,” “stop reproducing.” I have to wonder if the same would be said if the individuals in question looked like blonde-haired, blue-eyed Scandinavians.

As Africa goes, so will the world, ultimately. Africa and its people throughout the world in the Diaspora represent what eventually will come to bear for those privileged persons who, somehow, feel so disconnected from the very people from which they descended.

  • Lady Liberty 1

The article failed to mention that most of the governments in Africa are radical Muslims, who have been killing Christians for the last 25 years. The Governments in Africa are made of people who kill, rape and enslave their own countrymen! Muslims say they worship God, but in reality, they worship Satan. I believe God is judging Africa by withholding rain—Africa truly is the DARK CONTINENT. God also judges a groups of peoples by earthquakes, floods, tidal waves….God uses WIND, WATER, EARTHQUAKES, DROUGHT TO GET MAN’S ATTENTION, AND TO GET MAN TO REPENT. America has received partial judgement already, and if our people do not repent and turn to God, judgement will also fall on America. It is only the power of the Holy Spirit living in believers who have kept the hand of God’s judgement from falling totally on America. We will incur food shortages too, but not to the extent Africa and Europe, and Russia will incur God’s wrath!!

  • Chlamy50

35% of cereals in the world are used for human food, 60% for animals and 5% for biofuels….
10 kg of cereals lead to 1kg of beefs….

So, people will eat less beef and more cereals and there will be not struggle starvation for human beings!

  • Al Sledge

In a nutshell, the blame for starvation is always placed on drought, over population, speculators driving up prices, greed, lack of money, or lack of governmental control/intervention. There may be however more, even sinister motives and actions, behind these starvation problems. Getting a clearer view the bigger problem becomes obvious. One does not need to be a conspiracy theorist to see what has been placed in plain sight.

One website examines the Ethiopian starvation problem more deeply. The page http://chora.virtualave.net/myths.htm delves deeply into some of this problem, but I am unable to agree with many of their solutions. I do agree that this starvation, like almost all starvation’s in the Twentieth Century, are man-made with most being intentional for political or economic control!

The pictures we see on our major media TV broadcasts show parched, bone dry, lifeless areas with dying children. Yet during this drought, other areas of Ethiopia are in full bloom with grain. Strangely Ethiopia EXPORTS grain even today. These photos would be akin to telling us that Kansas was in a drought, then showing photos of Death Valley.

Under Stalin, millions of Ukrainians died of starvation, yet there was no food shortage. It was all shipped out. Food continues being used as a weapon world wide. Bullets and bombs are expensive and most men are against killing unarmed civilians even when the state orders it. Starvation is an inexpensive alternative.

In my lowly opinion, the answer is freedom. Not government controlled free trade, such as the NAFTA and other scams that we live under in the US. Freedom to form corporate capitalism, without the corporations being able to control the laws. One fear stated is always monopoly. However monopolies must be sanctioned by governments in order to exist. A true free market will bring prosperity to our world. It is the only engine that works. The US evolved from a starving third world country to the richest in the history of the world on the back of capitalism. Since the start of our Progressive Era we have steadily been eating the seed corn of savings, the capital that made us rich. Once that is fully consumed including our machinery, we will enter the world of living like those in the Horn of African. No government program can repair it at that point.

These conditions have always existed in Africa. I lived there for a few years in the 70′s. They have many, many children, knowing that some of them will not make it. It always seemed barbaric to me, but that’s they way they do it.

Instead of sending piles of free food & water over to them, we should be sending condoms & birth control shots. That would be far more humane. Why have kids that you can’t feed or afford?

Oh wait, a huge % of our population is doing that right here in the USA too & being supported by taxapayer funded welfare. The apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree…..

I was in Africa, they have no food, houses with out running water, they wash their clothing against a rock in a tub of water and they have lap tops, cell phones, tv’s and vcr’s. THEY CHOOSE this life. Granted the drought is a natural disaster and it is sad, but they keep getting pregnant.

They are conservative people, they don’t like his views. He would not win an election in any country in Africa. WAKE UP AMERICA.

Hope & BMM – YOU are the problem. Africa cannot be “saved” from the outside. People have been trying to “save” Africa for over 100 years and it is arguably worse now then ever before. Your do-good attitude is what has caused the present problem. The food and drugs going into a third world country ONLY creates more people. The problem in these countries is: lack of leadership, lack of education, tribal or cultural dictates that are contrary to a 21st century existence, unwillingness on the part of the people to provide for themselves. Today millions, tens of millions of Africans die because some do-gooder Westerner sent food and drugs into a situation they know nothing about. You do-gooders are the mass murderers creating a situation where uneducated and unwilling indigent people are mass reproducing instead of being taught how to exist/survive in the 21st century. You can hide behind your claim to be only interested in helping but YOU are the problem. BMM has the larger problem of being a bigot! Immediately declaring everyone who doesn’t agree with him to be a racist. That is a phony old ploy that we all got tired of years ago. Don’t waste your time playing the race card.

Help for the needy should be a “hand up”, not a “hand out”. Just giving handouts all the time encourages dependency, and therefore actually makes the problem worse.
But what is really going on? The super-rich are using the spectre of the “starving masses” to browbeat the middle-class out of existence. They want you to feel guilty about being better off than others, even while they impose policies intended to reduce you to that same level.
In most of those poor countries, the people who control the government are not starving. In fact they live lives of extreme luxury, at the expense of the rest of the population. That is what Communism always leads to – no property rights for workers, so everything gets collectivized and a small elite get to decide how it should be divided out. And they give themselves the lion’s share.

In effect, those societies are ruled by Sociopaths – the people the Bible calls “the Wicked”.
And any aid the West sends to help the poooor? Most of it goes into the hands of the super-rich, who gleefully keep large numbers of their own people in a state of near-starvation, so they can guilt-manipulate the rest of the world to give more, More, MORE!

    Don’t play their game.

    Judgment Continues
Thus far in 2011 we have seen catastrophic tornadoes, catastrophic floods and catastrophic wildfires. Now we have an extreme drought in fourteen southern and southwestern states that will be a catastrophic event as well. In today’s news this weather event was said to be leading to another Dust Bowl like the one in the 30s. The weather forecasters blame it on a La Nina weather pattern, they have no idea that it is part of God’s judgment upon this nation. This drought is similar to the one in the 30s that hammered an already weakened nation. We recovered from that, but we will not recover from this.

The latest news regarding this drought is quite alarming because it means that crops are not growing which means food shortages and higher food prices on the horizon. Also caused by the drought are shortages of hay used to feed cattle and corn used to feed pigs, as well as water for these herds, which means that ranchers will be forced to sell their herds because they cannot afford to feed and water them. That will mean temporarily lower meat prices, but only for a very short time, then prices will skyrocket. Chicken feed will become more expensive thus raising the prices of chickens and eggs. Cotton crops are being devastated which means higher prices for clothing and other cotton products.

On the other side of the nation the effects of the extremely heavy snowfall this past winter in Montana, Wyoming and Idaho are still causing problems in those states because of the great amount of water still coming from the snowmelt in the mountains. The damage from the recent floods up there was great, but the effects are still lingering. The rivers are still high which means that fishing up there is almost non-existant and raft tours are virtually impossible. Business up there in these areas is dramatically off because of the lack of tourists who usually flock to those states for summer vacation fishing and rafting. More businesses will close, more people will lose their jobs and eventually their homes. More people will be in need of social services which will add to the already great economic problems of our nation. This nation will not recover.

These things are simply more of God’s judgment upon this wicked and perverse nation – and His judgment will only get worse. You must continue to press into the Lord for wisdom and guidance in what are becoming very perilous times.

  • SMASH THE CONTROL MACHINE

Under the guise of “protecting civilians,” the United States led NATO into Libya and is attempting to assassinate the Libyan leader. Of course, Libya happens to be the largest oil producer in Africa, but many do not realize that Gaddafi was planning to introduce the gold dinar, a single African currency that would serve as an alternative to the U.S. dollar and allow African nations to share the wealth. It is surely no coincidence that Iraq’s prior leader, Saddam Hussein, was trying to do the same thing just prior to U.S. invasion for all of those “weapons of mass destruction.”

Simply put, if oil-rich nations begin trading in something other than dollars it will significantly reduce demand for dollars and threaten the dollar’s role as world reserve currency. Many experts believe this would lead to the quick death of the fiat greenback, which is now backed by nothing but faith in a government that is running an annual budget deficit of over $1.5 TRILLION.

  • AnG

I just have to say that no man or gov. can fix these problems. It breaks my heart that stuff like this goes on, with that said Jehovah God has nothing to do with all the problems we face, let me explain….back in the garden(Eden)God put Adam and Eve, he told them they could eat of all the trees but not of the one in the middle of the garden…if they did they would die. There was an angel, satan, the devil(not his angelic name, but means opposer[hes not worthy enough for people to know his name]sorry im long winded) asked Eve if God told her not to eat of the forbidden tree, she in turn said that if they ate from it they would die. Satan said that they would not die,but become like God knowing good and evil. See these people (Adam and Eve) were perfect in every way (we cant even comprehend this), they knew what they were doing. They outright disobeyed Jehovah…questioning his right to rule, and Satan questioned his sovereignty.
Jehovah has ALLOWED these things to happen, not CAUSED them to happen…big diff. He has allowed them to happen to show mankind that they cannot live in peace, and be truly happy without him. The Bible says Satan is the ruler of THIS world… but soon Jehovah’s Son Jesus will come back to set things right…not a moment to soon I say…So please people read your Bible and get the whole story!I hope I made sense…I just want people to stop blaming God for all the bad things that happen. God Bless

How long are we going to keep this silly cycle going? Many people in the US can barely feed their families (44 Million on food stamps). How many years have we been hearing about starvations on the Horn of Africa? It is time for nature to take its course. If these people cant fend for themselves then its time to thin the herd. Cruel? Yes, but nature…yes Christian people, we are a part of the ‘Natural’ world, must take its course. We are getting to a strangle point on this planet and its time for the strong to survive.
Look at all of those boxes in those camps..USA–USA. We need a retraction..and we are going to get one..whether we like it or not. Call me a rascist but Africans need to do it on their own.

I have worked in Somalia and in one of the camps I was managing people were killed over a bag of rice. Just a food handout is NOT the answer until the government leaders – none of whom are underweight – are removed. It is hopeless and the USA is only prolonging the problem as are UN agencies. As for the USA, we have tons on welfare here who are getting handouts also. Worldwide food prices are going up – where I live out of the USA I am seeing it daily. The solution – I do not have one for Africa but in the USA it is call NO WORK NO EAT and NEW BABY NO MORE WELFARE INCREASE. We cannot support the world and most of all the welfare class in the USA.

I was going to make a bad joke about ‘… and where is Sally Struhters when she’s needed?’, but I’ll pass.

Everyone needs to learn how to garden and keep their own backyard homestead. These skills should be taught to third world folks so they can learn how to feed their families themselves. All this government aid going to other nations and to the poor here is fluff designed to buy favors or votes. Making ppl dependant upon us is hateful towards tbem and foolish for our children’s futures.

  • Your Future

The Africans at that camp and many more elsewhere will be extinct in another decade or thereabouts. Being the poorest, they will be the first shoved off the boat of life and oil prices continue to increase – driving up the cost of food well beyond their means.

Donations have been falling and will soon drop to zero as those in the rich countries that donate will find themselves struggling to survive.

The Africans have had millenia to learn to use their brains instead of their dicks. But their dicks and cunts got the best of them and now it will be death for them all. They are an excellent lesson for the rest of the world, which is already overpopulated and will soon suffer the same fate if it continues to execute business as usual.

Thanks for posting this. It really keeps the problems we’re experiencing in the US in perspective. Although we lament our economic decline, you can’t compare it to the famine ravaging the horn of Africa currently. Looking at photos that were recently published in TIME (http://lightbox.time.com/2011/07/21/haven-and-hell-the-worlds-largest-refugee-camp/#1) makes me happy I can feed my kids. I think its great you focused on something besides US domestic and economic problems that pale in comparison to others.

These are the same skinnies that shot the US outta there country. They have been starving since before I was on the Tit, I dont care anymore about them because if I was in there situation I wouldn’t be bringing children into the world. They are ignorant and uncapable of taking care of them selves. We are trying to stop the process of natural selection. It’s like peeing into the wind!! Plus we got problems of our own.

Larry the cable guy does a funny skit where he talks about the feed the children thing where they send you letters and stuff if you send em money to eat. He goes on to say his new son booblie booblie boo is breakin his wallet and that he can’t afford to raise all these kids. LMAO if anybody elsed has seen this skit let me know… Country boys can survive
