Very good article Michael.

You know, the other day, my mom finally admitted, after 2 and half years, that we don’t have the same opportunities as her generation had (Baby Boomers).

I have been telling my family this for years… And they out-right dismissed me, called me crazy, depressed etc…

Well, a couple of days ago, we had a discussion, and I told her that, I don’t have the option of going to work at AK-Steel like my dad did right out of high school, getting paid 15$/hr with full benefits and a 401k… (AK-Steel laid off 5,000+ people since 09) And I said, if I don’t go to college (Which I can’t afford) then my only options are mimum-wage jobs or the military… So, after 2 years, with no real improvement in the economy, she finally got it.

So, no I don’t care what the “Government” figures say, because I live in reality… I know dozens if not (Without exaggeration) more than 100 people who are barely making it with or without a job, I know public defenders who kids aren’t working and say the economy is improving to the 5,000+ men and women who lost their middle class job at AK-Steel…And for every BMW, BENZ and Cadillac I see on the road, there are 100 Prius right behind them…

Census data tells us somewhere around 150,000+ new people (citizens & illegals combined) enter the job market every month. Things have not stabilized, but as you note its papered over with huge deficits to keep public employees on the payroll and by doling out food stamps, rent assistance, cell phones, etc. at record levels to keep the peasants from going berserker.

“That is something that we should all be thinking about.”

Wow, karl, is your last name by any chance marx….. how dare that peasant challenge your world view!
if you are going to say that most homeless vets don’t want to live that way and that this is a legend…. please provide your proof because most people who actually work in the field with that demographic, know it is the truth, anyone with common sense has been pointing this out since reagan era about homeless people in general.
Bleeding heart, know nothings like you have been shouting us down and pulling the “I know better than you” crap for all this time, trying to redistribute our hard earned money…… if you want to do something about this or any number of problems associated with being poor, feel free to work extra, take your excess and distribute it to anyone you may come across that can use your help. even better, how about you do this monthly for years and show up and spend your time with these people, showing them how to become independent and take care of themselves so, they in turn will be able to help others in the future.
Of course not, prattle on about spelling, grammar and linguistics while the rest of us GO and actually help a homeless vet or single mom or hurting child or lonely grandfather.
