46 million Americans go to food banks, and long lines for dwindling food supplies begin at 6:30 AM

Children Orphans Eating - Public DomainThose that run food banks all over America say that demand for their services just continues to explode.  It always amazes me that there are still people out there that insist that an “economic collapse” is not happening.  From their air-conditioned homes in their cushy suburban neighborhoods they mock the idea that the U.S. economy is crumbling.  But if they would just go down and visit the local food banks in their areas, they would see how much people are hurting.  According to Feeding America spokesman Ross Fraser, 46 million Americans got food from a food bank at least one time during 2014.  Because the demand has become so overwhelming, some food banks are cutting back on the number of days they operate and the amount of food that is given to each family.  As you will see below, many impoverished Americans are lining up at food banks as early as 6:30 in the morning just so that they can be sure to get something before the food runs out.  And yet there are still many people out there that have the audacity to say that everything is just fine in America.  Shame on them for ignoring the pain of millions upon millions of their fellow citizens.

Poverty in America is getting worse, not better.  And no amount of spin from Barack Obama or his apologists can change that fact.

This year, it is being projected that food banks in the United States will give away an all-time record 4 billion pounds of food.

Over the past decade, that number has more than doubled.

And that number would be even higher if food banks had more food to give away.  The demand has become so crushing that some food banks have actually reduced the amount of food each family gets

Food banks across the country are seeing a rising demand for free groceries despite the growing economy, leading some charities to reduce the amount of food they offer each family.

Those in need are starting to realize what is going on, so they are getting to the food banks earlier and earlier.  For example, one food bank in New Mexico is now getting long lines of people every single day starting at 6:30 in the morning

We get lines of people every day, starting at 6:30 in the morning,” said Sheila Moore, who oversees food distribution at The Storehouse, the largest pantry in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and one where food distribution has climbed 15 percent in the past year.

Does that sound like an “economic recovery” to you?

Just because your family doesn’t have to stand in line for food does not mean that everything is okay in America.

The same thing that is happening in New Mexico is also happening in Ohio.  Needy people are standing in line at the crack of dawn so that they can be sure to get something “before the food runs out”

Lisa Hamler-Fugitt, executive director of the Ohio Association of Food Banks, who has been working in food charities since the 1980s, said that when earlier economic downturns ended, food demand declined, but not this time.

People keep coming earlier and earlier, they’re standing in line, hoping they get there before the food runs out,” Hamler-Fugitt said.

And keep in mind that we are just now entering the next global financial crisis and the next major recession.

So how bad will things be when millions more Americans lose their jobs and millions more Americans lose their homes?

Rising poverty is also reflected in the number of Americans on food stamps.  The following graph was posted by the Economic Policy Journal, and it shows how food stamp use has absolutely exploded in the five most populated states…

Food Stamp Recipients - Economic Policy Journal

I don’t see an “economic recovery” in that graph, do you?

Instead, what it shows is that the number of Americans on food stamps continued to rise for years even after the recession ended.

Sadly, things are only going to get worse from here.  Eventually, the kinds of things that we are seeing happen in places such as Venezuela will be coming here as well.  At this point, young mothers in Venezuela are sleeping outside of empty supermarkets at night in a desperate attempt to get something for their families when morning arrives

As dawn breaks over the scorching Venezuelan city of Maracaibo, smugglers, young mothers and a handful of kids stir outside a supermarket where they spent the night, hoping to be first in line for scarce rice, milk or whatever may be available.

Some of the people in line are half-asleep on flattened cardboard boxes, others are drinking coffee.

Most Americans cannot identify with this level of suffering, but it is coming to our country someday too.  Here is more from Reuters

I can’t get milk for my child. What are we going to do?” said Leida Silva, 54, breaking into tears outside the Latino supermarket in northern Maracaibo where she arrived at 3 a.m. on a recent day.

Just a couple of days ago, I wrote about how the number of Americans living in concentrated areas of high poverty has doubled since the year 2000.

In case you are wondering, that is not a sign of progress.

Just because you might live in a comfortable neighborhood that does not give you the right to look down on those that are suffering.

And when you add increasing racial tensions to the mix, it becomes easier to understand why there is so much anger and frustration in our urban areas.  According to Business Insider, the percentage of Americans that consider race relations to be in good shape in this nation has dropped precipitously…

Over the last two years there has been a 23% drop in the number of Americans who see relations between blacks and whites as “very good” or “somewhat good.”

Today, only 47% of Americans see black-white relations positively, according to a Gallup poll, the lowest it has been in the last 14 years.

The poll also showed that blacks see the relations more positively (51%) than whites (45%), but both percentages experienced sharp declines in the last two years.

All of the ingredients are there for civil unrest to erupt in cities all over the United States.

When the next major economic downturn happens, anger and frustration are going to flare to extremely dangerous levels.  At this point, it will not take much to set things off.

Desperate people do desperate things, and desperation is rising even now in this country.

So how did things get so bad?

Stupid decisions lead to stupid results, and very soon we will start to pay a very great price for decades of incredibly stupid decisions.

  • G21

This country’s going down the tubes fast. This fall looks depressingly dangerous.

Can anyone tell me what is so “progressive” about the left – other than they’re progressively ruining the best country in the world?

    • SunnyFlaSnotress

There was a time when immigration was a beautiful thing.. but this isn’t it.

    • CharlesH

Progressive sounds so much better than the Regressives they actually are.

    • grumpyhillbilly

Calling them progressive totalitarian would be more accurate. Like all totalitarians before them, they love death and suffering. People starving…no biggie. Just think of what Stalin did to the Ukrainians.

    • Gay Veteran

the word you are looking for is fascism (the merger of state and corporate powers)

    • georgeodjungle

that 46 million number is case numbers. add say 2.5 famly members for each case.

The Economic Collapse Blog Has Issued A RED ALERT For The Last Six Months Of 2015

    Published 6/25/2015

    141 days until 12/31/2015.

Lets do a count down every day until the end of 2015 and see just what happens

    • Guest

Let’s see if you can stop trolling until then.

  • SunnyFlaSnotress

46 million using foodbanks and 42 million immigrants.. interesting.

    • greyprepper

      My thoughts exactly.

    • El mico

Immagrants ain’t got time to go to food banks. Too busy mowing ya lawn for $2 an hour.

  • sre

This situation is very sad. I feel bad for all the people living in poverty. I don’t have much, myself, although I haven’t yet had to resort to the food banks. But, this country has been on the brink of failure before, and we’ve always managed to pull back. This time will be no different, we’ll carry on.

    • DW

It’s good to be optimistic even though it’s not always realistic. There comes a time when you can’t pull back….eventually you hit rock bottom and lose everything.

  • Robert

“Just because you might live in a comfortable neighborhood that does not give you the right to look down on those that are suffering.”

Who in heaven’s name is doing this?

    • Marco

I live and work in Silicon Valley and I can tell you that there are a _lot_ of oblivious people. It’s easy to not see it – if you go shopping at Santana Row (look it up) you wouldn’t see an recession either.

    • Jorma

I don’t know who is doing this. But this remark did not sit well with me. Myself and many many others financially support Israel, our Churches who in turn go out into our local communities….most Americans give even when they don’t have very much to give, and the Republicans give like 12 orders of magnitude over Democrats in that famous study. So where that comment came from is beyond me.

      • Gay Veteran

how about supporting Americans instead of Israel?
and no more of OUR tax dollars going to ANY foreign country

  • Bily Bob

Very good article Michael. Out of touch career politicians should read this article.

    • we_have_one_that_can_see

OUT OF TOUCH CAREER POLITICIAN,…the politicians are in touch,..they know who they work for,..and they make laws to keep them wealthy,..and their businesses prospering,..your the one out of touch,..politicians work for the oligarchy,..the last politician that worked for the people has a airport in queens ny named after him,,JFK

        …he worked for sex…

        • Mike Smithy

I suppose that’s better than stealing it.

  • Liberty First

The massive influx in illegal immigration is a huge driver of this. Such a cruel policy, causing catastrophe not just for the American people but those entering this country as well.

    • Guest

Those entering as well? How so? They are leaving a third world country and receiving a full goodie basket, paid for by tax payers upon arrival.

      • Mike Smithy

        Never had it so good.

        • James

          Yes indeed.
Stock prices are soaring, my REIT is doing great, bond coupons are finally increasing, and the value of my water rights to the LA river are increasing like Intel during the .com bubble, only this is not a bubble.

          • KJF

            You are so annoying.

          • Alwaystomorrow

Shame on him for doing what you can’t.

          • James

Yes, how dare I try to find a way to make a comfortable instead of whining how it is some immigrants fault or obama?

          • Gay Veteran

ROFLOL, like anyone here actually believes your BS. You’re probably posting from mommy’s basement

          • Alwaystomorrow

You have made references before of “mommy’s basement”…..Hmmmm.

Did something happen there you need to get off of your chest?

          • Gay Veteran

what jealousy? are you so naïve as to believe what he says? jesus, this is the internet

          • Alwaystomorrow

I am not naive but I do not discredit someone until I feel I have reason to.

Just because there is a difference in personality or ideas or self proclaimed success doesn’t mean that he lives in mommy’s basement.

I have a pretty good track record (certainly not 100%) of picking up on signs of being phony, deceitful, evasive or inconsistent.

I have not seen signs of this yet in James postings.

He has things he is proud of as do I.

I am sure you too have many things you are proud of and good at. You just choose not to share them.

Illegal immigrants are not eligible for SNAP, Head Start, Section 8, Student Loans, etc.
If you don’t believe me, go to your local welfare office and try to apply for any of those without a social security number.

        • Guest

LOL Evidently you’ve never heard of the California dream act. Ha FULL GOODIE BASKET!

          • James

California dream act refers to the children of illegal immigrants and illegal immigrants who were children when they came to the US.
They receive fewer government services than anyone else, stop baiting.
Anyone can be paid under the table.
They pay sales, fuel, property, telecom, internet, taxes

        • M.Smith

That is true, to an extent. There is a thriving black market for SS numbers here in the southwest, and most of the databases that are tracking all of those programs are not linked. A few months ago the local news in Phoenix ran a report on a Phoenix woman whose SSN was being used by SIX different people to receive government “benefits” (4 in Arizona, 2 in Colorado). None of the .gov systems that were authorizing these allotments were linked.

          • James

Oh yes, underfunded welfare agencies have no money to update computer systems and look for real ss numbers and overlap

          • Irene

go back to bed as e verify is not a law and if you never HEARD OF welfare FRAUD, multiple IDs etc STAY OFF THE BOARDS.

        • PCmustgo

WRONG! They CAN access these programs through their legally born children. Any child (anchor baby) born on U.S. soil automatically becomes a US citizen.

          • James

then only the legal immigrant covered by the 14th amendment gets welfare

          • Irene

do YOURSELF A BIG FAVOR- stop posting YOUR scatology UNTIL YOU KNOW THE LAWS and definitions–how the hell is a LEGAL IMMIGRANT.. as immigrant means FOREIGN BORN covered under the corruption of the 14th A ?

        • Irene

James ? bullchit-we reside in NYC-went to the HRA trying to get HELP for an elderly AMERICAN born street person who was ready to drop dead from also being impaired-so he had no photo ID, no birth cert, nothing-who do U think is ahead of us and with suitcases etc ? and getting EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE etc ?
you NEVER EVER heard of THIS ? even EMERGENCY MEDICIAD-how the hell do you think momma drop her anchors ? then he gets WIC FOODSTAMPS, medicaid, section 8 BECAUSE NOW THERE ARE CHILDREN INVOLVED==remember its for the kids ?when they ARRIVE WITH KIDS SAME THINGIE they do get food stamps etc–go and read all the FEDERAL LAWS APPLYING TO THEM= strt w mckinney vento crap=how the hell do YOU think all these UNDOCUMENTED MINORS are getting their freebies ?HRA worker even went OFF as she stated she was sick and tired of this bs while AMERICANS GO WITHOUT, they don need no steeeeenkin social number and when they do they will simply pay a couple of bucks for a card with a number lifted off the social security death index THE SAME AS OBUMMMER DID.

        • laura m.

Total liar James; I agree w/ Irene. why do you think our debt is so high? we are feeding and caring for anyone from anywhere crossing our borders, incl ISIS scum.

          • James

our debt is high because the us can borrow money cheaply and years of deficit spending.

    • laura m.

I donate food items only to children’s group homes in my area which are supported by local businesses, fund raisers, churches and individuals. This way, I know lazy slackers and over breeding parents won’t get it. Many of these losers buy beer, cigarettes, and live on junk foods with ebt cards. These bums need to quit breeding, and if they are too sorry to feed/support their offspring, they need to place them in foster homes or up for adoption. Open borders refugee influx: folks quit donating to all food banks, help the group homes in your city instead.

      • James

How about expanding federal funding for abortion and contraception?
That way less people are birthed.

        • laura m.

Agree, also sterilization would help. Women must be sterilized after one abortion. would improve society in general.

        • algol2000

Abortion is murder. Do you think that we can solve any real problems by aborting the young? Why did your mother keep you? To solve real problems is to educate men and women on their role in society. An increase in population is not the issue here. Irresponsibility is.

          • Nemnor

algol2000, you stated – “…To solve real problems is to educate men and women on their role in society…”. And, I agree with you on that.

However, please be aware that, at the very root of the major socioeconomic issues facing US society (and the World as a whole), is the Capitalist economic system itself – which is now decadent, and is now no longer able to generate long-term recovery by economic means alone.

The real and permanent solution ultimately begins with dismantling Capitalism, and building a new sustainable system based on producing and distributing goods and services to meet the genuine and abundant needs of every “rational” individual – as the primary end-purpose of production and distribution, and doing so with due care for the environment.

          • algol2000

I agree with you entirely. The system is unsustainable because profit motive itself is exploitative. However, the generations are corrupt beyond redemption and there are no potential leaders willing to sacrifice as demanded by your proposed system. No one has the staying power. such a leader will be consumed before long by the vultures who are the masters of the current system. Only Christ has such staying power. Therefore, until he returns, there is no redemption.

          • James

            How about contraception then?
yes, generational poverty and large welfare spending.
educate them on the role in society. Explain. I can wait for the misogynistic and racist crap.

      • Gay Veteran

        “…over breeding parents won’t get it….”

        harpy

        • laura m.

Dumb butt, over breeders get food handouts all the time, welfare and free abortions. what planet are you on stupid?

          • Gay Veteran

“over breeders” sounds so much better in the original German, harpy

    • sharonsj

Undocumented immigrants do not qualify for welfare, food stamps, Medicaid, and most other public benefits. If their kids were born in the U.S., the kids would qualify.

  • K

As someone who helps out the local foodbank. You are 100% correct. Sometimes we have had to resort to handing out dried beans, instead of meat. But you do not dare hand out the dried beans, without an instruction sheet. Yup, we have had people try to eat them without soaking. The people under forty, are not only poor. They totally lack any knowledge on how to cook. When things truly go bad, I fear for these people, and their families.

  • TR

I would like to thank the stupid Republican & Democratic voters for allowing outsourcing over the years.Americans don’t need jobs to buy food.
The only thing that’s important is buying crap from COMMUNIST CHINA. Anyone that owns any of that stuff is a COMMUNIST SYMPATHIZER. How’s your day,Comrade?

I be loving me some of that there capital letter emphasis.

    • G21

If you own a computer, you own chinese-made products, Comrade.

      • Guest

Yeah, it’s pretty hard to find anything today that isn’t made in China.

        • alan

I bought some stuff in Red China and it was made there too…DOH!

        • DW

Hard to find anything made in America that you actually need. I don’t thing blue jeans are made here anymore.

It would be interesting to take everything out of a Walmart store that is not made in the US and see what’s left…..

      • VigilanteCaregiver

Actually, many of these electronics are made in the US and either final assembly and packaging, or only packaged for retail in China. The Chinese are on record as stamping “Made in China” on US produced products if they had any chance to handle product through the process. Very underhanded.

When you make your own electronics you’ll find a lot of it’s made in the US.

Chinese made electronics are the worst in the world! Burns out fast, can’t stay in tolerances, very unreliable.

    • TR

I will buy everything that’s outsourced if possible because it could have been stopped years ago.
Didn’t I hear some say: “We will bury you.” It should be “We will bury ourselves.”

Anyone going to make it to the next party meeting?

    • James

      China is not communist.
If so, the Gini in china would be 0, it is actually 40.
Banning outsourcing would only cause out of control labor costs and ever increasing prices which you would blame on Obama

    • tacoma

So you blame the whole thing on ‘Communist’ China. 50 years of brainwashing. But let’s agree that China is really truly Communist. Well you have here a country with a vastly different political and economic systems than the U.S. that’s beaten the hell out of it. Solid proof that the American system is not the be-all end-all. Far from it. It’s collapsing. Your rant proves it.

  • Mondobeyondo

Still believe the economy has recovered?

    • Guest

But, but, but Tim Geithner wrote an article waaaaay back in 2009 entitled “Welcome to the Recovery.”

    • RICHARD

Not happening, ask Gerald. Time is up, the can went over the cliff.

    • James

NBER said it has and NBER declarers recoveries and recessions.

  • CharlesH

My heart truly goes out to all the impoverished people who are literally going to bed (if they have one) hungry every day. I can see and feel the tensions in the U.S. rising – but instead of one race fighting against another – people should combine their numbers and literally take their frustrations to Washington, DC or their state capitols or their city halls. The problems facing this country today rest squarely on the shoulders of each and every politician in office today – top down. My biggest fear is that something – some type of financial crash will be the singular catalyst for this entire country to come apart at the seams and I really don’t think the United States of America as we know it today will survive.

    • jakartaman

Its going to be a world event and it is going to be ugly.
The usa will be a place of civil unrest – martial law etc.
Our citizens are use to a certain live style and that is going to be taken from them. The freebies will stop and the violence will explode. If you live in a major city – you will be attacked and robed/raped an quite possibly killed – If you think the government or police will protect you then you are living in a make believe world.

    • algol2000

The solution to the problem does not lie outside, it lies within the individual. Who must first stop blaming others for his problems or depending on others to solve his problems, but become a responsible citizen, willing to solve problems for himself and others.

      Givers never lack.

  • AZFan

How should we prepare for the coming collapse. I bought a lot of gold silver and food?

    • WM

All that gold, silver, and food will do you no good if you can’t protect it. If you don’t have a gun, get one. If you do have guns, buy more ammo. Also store seeds, so that way you can grow food during a collapse or famine and for when your stored food runs out. Get a group together if you can, but only those you can absolutely trust.

United States. Not so long time ago it was an example of Freedom and Democracy. Just after Cold War ended, lot’s of countries like Poland was looking at USA with hope. Values, freedom and decency. Now it’s all gone. I’m sorry. USA has fallen. You were an example of freedom but now you’re an example of decay and a cesspool of morality and ethics. and decent people are treated like a Garbage. Now Europe is better than USA. Price of food, petrol (gasoline) is equal. But Polizei don’t shoot and taze zap at the moment.

  • Lab Rat

Perhaps these people should start buying food with their EBT cards.

Perhaps you realize that the S in SNAP means supplemental

  • Harbinger

It is truly sad that in this great nation we have so many people suffering and missing out on the basic necessities of life. The problem is that if we are not directly affected by it or see it first hand, we don’t give it a second thought. What will it take to wake us up? Unfortunately we are slow to learn and the only thing we learn from history is that we do not learn from history. We as a collective society have put common sense on the shelf and instead gambled the future of the next generation on one foolish endeavor after the next.

  • VigilanteCaregiver

Last week volunteering at the LDS Bishop’s Storehouse (the Mormon’s food pantry system) it was stocked to the gills with the basics: all food groups, canned foods, toiletries, cleaning supplies, baby needs, etc. The Church owns lots of farms and ranches, factories and production centers, plus our own distribution networks: we have plenty of food and assistance (even some medical and utility assistance) paid for out of our charitable contributions to care for the poor and needy. All these programs and assistance are available to the general population; just need to meet with the local Bishop and get an assistance order.

What was odd is how few people were there.

The local food bank, however, is constantly running out. We send supplies close to expiration over to the food banks daily and are always asking for more, more, MORE! If they went through the Mormon Church’s program they’d be on their feet by now.

Progressive Redistributed Welfare vs Sustainable Aid: Santa wins popularity over DIY. Sad.

This is a terrible economy, and will get worse. Sec Kerry said if Congress doesn’t support the Iran deal, the dollar will collapse. That speaks volumes at to how close we really are to hyperinflation. There’s a lot that can be insinuated from this one statement also, but I digress. Speculation’s always too volatile.

I would be afraid to go to a religious place to get food. There’s that deep fear of waking up in Syria with a beard.

Mormons are some of the finest people I know. I have never know any Mormon to force someone into thier religion. They want you to follow with faith, not force. I dare say I have been treated kinder by mormons than by some of my Baptist sisters and brothers in Christ.

        • GSOB

” …..I have never know any Mormon to force someone into thier religion. ”

          Matthew 24:4

        • VigilanteCaregiver

          Thanks!

        • Mike Smithy

True. Mormons are very pleasant people.

          • algol2000

Until you join and get to the 33rd degree.

          • Mike Smithy

I think you are confusing Masons with Mormons.

          • algol2000

They sure are the same to me.

          • VigilanteCaregiver

            We don’t do that.

          • algol2000

Yes you do. It is your best kept secret.

          • VigilanteCaregiver

Well, nobody told any hundreds of us in the local wards and Stake. So, unless you have something to link to…

      • VigilanteCaregiver

Doesn’t work that way. Most of the time folks who get assistance don’t want to hear about the Church. We’re cool with that. Charity in Christ’s name is what matters.

    • James

Perhaps it is because nobody knows about your church.

      • Alwaystomorrow

Or perhaps it is because they do know about it. 😉

        • James

          LOL

        • GSOB

          Perhaps they ain’t hungry enough.

        • greyprepper

A completely unprovoked low blow aimed at an individual who allegedly spends their free time volunteering to help the needy. You disgust me.

          • Alwaystomorrow

greyprepper, here is what VigilanteCaregiver said in his post…..
“(the Mormon’s food pantry system) was stocked to the gills with the basics……What was odd is how few people were there…..The local food bank, however, is constantly running out. We send supplies close to expiration over to the food banks daily………and are always asking for more, more, MORE!”

Based on that statement I assume since both food places are in the same geographical location and one is running out and the other “few people were there” there must be a reason.

Maybe my thoughts were wrong, but maybe not.

          • greyprepper

I’m glad you were able to find the time between sniffing your own farts to regurgitate that segment of VigilantCaregiver’s post for me. Decided to come up for some air, did you? ; D
Your response changes nothing. You still disgust me. You condescending bully! >:P

          • greyprepper

Now that I have cooled down, I apologize.I should have said you are not just disgusting you are a complete arrogant jerk. Nogw go back to sniffing your farts.

          • greyprepper

Seriously? Stealing my handle? What goes around comes around, right? That’s fine. Imitation is the best form of flattery. You’ll have to do better than that though. I rarely leave typos and you can’t even distinguish between “your” and “you’re.”

          • greyprepper

Seriously? Stealing my handle again? What goes around comes around, right? You still disgust me. That’s pretty pathetic Alwaystomorrow. You are a complete arrogant jerk.

          • Alwaystomorrow

            Okay

          • greyprepper

Do us all a favor and not post anything else. No one here likes you or the trash you spread. You are a waste of a life!!!

          • greyprepper

            (rolls eyes)
That’s pretty pathetic Alwaystomorrow. Doesn’t matter. I’m not here to impress anyone and we both know the truth. Slander away! As long as I can keep picking away at your fragile ego, I’ll be content. :)

          • Alwaystomorrow

            Okay.

    • Rick

Again, your story just illustrates how our country continues to move away from the One True God. The needy now see the government public assistance as their salvation instead of going to the churches where they will get both food and prayer.

      • Gay Veteran

One True God? would that be the Christian God or the Mormon God?

        • Rick

You are the only one who can answer that question for you. And on that one day (of judgement) you again will need to justify the answer you’ve chosen to the One True God. No group work, or phone a friend or lawyer. Just you!

          • Gay Veteran

OR religion exists for 2 reasons:
            (1) man fears death,
            (2) as a means of social control (obey the king or you’ll go to h ell).

            Heck, I’ll toss in another:
            (3) as a means for priests and preachers to obtain money and power

    • GSOB

“Sec Kerry said if Congress doesn’t support the Iran deal, the dollar will collapse.”

Spin that out for us if you can.
      How is that,
that it will collapse without the deal with Iran?

They have always been a threat.
      Nothing new under the sun.

      • VigilanteCaregiver

Ask Kerry to explain why he said it.

    • VigilanteCaregiver

Another aspect of food for the needy: many here know we’ve had a lot of issues with poverty due to the wife’s disabilities. We built our own food production system that involves urban livestock, hydroponics (soon to be aquaponics), and intensive gardening.

The hydroponic system’s fixed costs came in around $430; $15 per month operational costs. This comes to $610 this year; $180 the following years. Families on SNAP bring in an average $149 per month; $1788 per year and there after. For a one time cost of $600 to install and training for a 12′ x 3′ x 6.5′ aquaponic system (mix of fish and vegetation), people in apartments and rentals on welfare in our area can grow over half their food needs while keeping costs down for the public. And if there’s allotments for these recipients, then they can grow other foods in bulk. A 40′ X 40′ allotment can easily grow 90 lbs of raw sugar and 600 lbs of potatoes.

This is called Sustainable Aid: a one time assistance that leads to people supporting themselves on their own after assistance. Instead of the government paying months and months of public funds a single donation by a non-profit charity can buoy up a family to build themselves up; the further they go, the more funds will become available via savings. These savings frees up funds for both family and community that can go to bettering the household, and the community can cut back on welfare payments to afford debt payments and infrastructure.

  • df NJ

If poverty is such an important issue then maybe it’s time to close some of our 800+ foreign military bases we have all around the world. The US militiary is more important than people in poverty. Let them starve and die. US military is more important. Poverty is the only way we can protect our country.

    • Gay Veteran

whoa, whoa, whoa! no war profits without war, now get back to work you tax donkey

    • tacoma

But those 800+ bases are there to support the U.S. dollar. Take away those bases, and therefore U.S. ability to wage wars on anybody who try to trash the dollar, and the dollar will truly trash to zilch with our $18 trillion national debt.

  • Illegal

I think we live in a society of total misinformation and this is on purpose. Yes, this story tugs at your heart strings but you need to critically think about the situation. Supposedly there is a Federal “food stamp” program that people at certain income level have access to food. Interestingly there are 46 million on this program. Are some of these people selling their benefits in order to buy drugs and alcohol because they can get free food? Are some of these people double dippers – eating more than you and I would be able to afford. Whenever there is something that is free there is a tendency to misuse the item. If you required a small payment or community service I suspect this number getting free food would drop dramatically.

Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me.

    • victor

      I agree.
My uncle once told me a man and woman came up to him and said they would buy some steaks and stuff in exchange for cash. He did it, because that’s the way he is. They did it, because it’s free money to them. This was about a year or two ago.

      • low

I just love that saying, it’s “free” money! What is free about it!

        • Mike Smithy

What part of free do you not understand?

    • Brian

I got to tell ya I take welfare babies to the store each week to buy food, they fill the cart with what I want and then check out after we get to my car to unload I give them 50 cents on the dollar so they can buy their drugs. It’s my damn money so I try to get as much back as I can….

      • Brother Steve

You are empowering people’s misery??? Shame on you.

      • Rick

You have just defined the problem in our country. It’s you! And if there is 1 of you, there are thousands. I’m no saint either, yet some sins are just incredibly pathetic!

    • apeiron

There is no demand curve on a ‘free’ good. I worked at the food pantry once. A majority percentage of those who came were obese & driving late model & even expensive cars. I think they probably show up for anything ‘free’. Some, however, really obviously needed the help.

      • Brother Steve

Fair analysis. I’ve worked them too.

      • James

Obesity does not mean that they are well nourished.
        get a grip

        • TrueGrit

It just means they sit all day eating ho hos, ding dongs, potato chips and starburst.

          • James

or they buy the cheapest food which happens to be unhealthy

      • David Swanson

Eating cheap processed food to stretch out the food budget really packs on useless fat. When you are hungry, the pain in your belly is unrelenting. You will almost eat anything. Your muscles burn and ache and sometimes a few little stones you swallow may offer a distraction. Nutritious food is expensive and so is shelter and transportation. If you don’t earn enough, you balance out the absolute necessities for survival. Shelter is too overpriced and this robs the poor more than anything else and shelter costs are linked to property taxes. Pray that you never become old, unemployable and disabled. You have life but do not live.

        • PCmustgo

Also, veggies tend to rot in the fridge if not cooked right away and therefore also don’t make as much economic sense… The working poor work all the time and might not have time to cook.

          • algol2000

The working poor should unplug CNN and Fox news. And move to the rural areas where there is work and much food.

I say make these food bank leeches do community service or work in the food bank, mow lawns in parks, city property, paint public buildings, pressure wash, etc. Exceptions: handicapped and elderly. I knew several who quit voluntering at the food bank because of people with expensive cars showing up.

        • VigilanteCaregiver

          Agreed!

    • Mike Smithy

Last year I advertised some extra tickets to a KC Chiefs game on Craigslist. I kid you not, when I say that I received two (2) calls from persons offering me EBT/Food Stamp benefits in exchange for tickets.

    • James

Food stamp allotments are extremely low.

      • James

        649 for a family of 4.

        • PCmustgo

depending on their income…. less if they earn over a certain very low amount.

          • James

            that is the max

        • sharonsj

It varies greatly by state. $649 for a family of 4 sounds very high to me. I what state do you claim this is paid?

  • JailBanksters

    well put it this way…
That’s 46 Million that is not going to jeopardise their own existance by civil unrest against Bankers or Governments are they. Only if the Spigot is turned down or off will they rise up.

You got the people who really need it, loss of job, low paying job with family, kids trying to make it. You got the people who are mentally off who need it. Then You got the people who just want a hand out, and live a “free,” life, or are happy to live day by day. Some are lost souls, fighting addictions, wanting help, while others do not.
Many years ago I helped feed the homeless.
Some knew on this day, go to this church, they are giving free haircuts. Go to this church, and listen to this sermon and get hot food, and clothes. Go somewhere else for a shower and toiletries
For some it’s survival, till they get back on their feet. For others, You just do the circuit, and get what You need.
Some really did appreciate it, and others, You hope You blessed them in some way, and for me, showed them the love of Jesus.
It was always hard to see the young kids.
I guess this post really did make me think, if it is bad now, how much worse it will be, if things truly get ugly in our country.
I honestly wish it was late September, October, to see what happens, and how this really plays out.
I think something will play out with the market around that time. I think there are more people aware of the 7 year cycle, and whether they truly believe it or not, will start to with drawl their various accounts just to be on the safe side. This will be one part of the start, another I think will be an interest rate increase, as momentum for the market starts to roll down hill.
That’s only a part of my take on how this will start to go down.
I’d like to hear how others have their take or view.
    What starts the Domino Effect?
What’s the latest with Greece? Remember we were speculating on that back in February? Leave the E.U.? It’s still in play.

  • jhowell882

we like to think we a re a civilized society but we are really not. it’s OK to have homeless people on the street but we do nothing to help. we have hungry and we don’t do enough or nothing, even when it’s the kids who are hungry.

we are not a civilized society.. just look at some of the hateful, pointed posts below. a caring, civilized society would not have or allow this

And the ethnicity seems to be South American by their looks and the fact they’re all eating just rice. So, I’d say this is not an American picture. Of course modern journalism is about embellishment as much if not more than truth.

    • GSOB

She’s listening to an audio bible?

      • Nemnor

GSOB, I would not be surprised if it is indeed an audio Bible.

At the root of all this (world-wide) poverty is, of course, the now decadent and decaying Capitalist economic system.

Now, the Bible (or some other religious indoctrination) is one of the main things given to the millions (or billions?) of poverty-stricken people all over the World.

Religion (in general) helps to “pacify” the mass of poor people (like a form of drug), and helps to shield them from being influenced into taking effective (revolutionary) actions against the status quo (against the Capitalist system), while their poverty continues unabated (and even getting worse in some parts of the world).

        • greyprepper

          Oh good grief…
Is this your job or something?

          • Nemnor

greyprepper, look at the case of Egypt, which was ruled by a brutal Dictatorship for about 30 years (a Dictatorship supported and armed by the USA). The mass of impoverished Egyptians got angry enough to take actions that consequently caused the removal of Mubarak. But, the socioeconomic condition of the Egyptian people today is more or less the same (or worse?) compared to the time of Mubarak. (right?)

You see, while the Egyptian people took action, they were incapable of taking the right actions to truly solve the socioeconomic problems facing them. That is because the minds of much of the Egyptian masses are still entrapped by various illusions (including religious illusions), and which prevents them from identifying the true enemy of the Egyptian masses and the main root cause of their problems.

          • greyprepper

Sigh… I will ask you once again. What do you propose as an alternative? Please don’t quote Zeitgeist or I will more than likely break my keyboard in a fit of uncontrollable rage.

          • Nemnor

greyprepper, the real alternative is simpler said than done, but not impossible. The changes required will be challenging, but it begins with sufficient people (mainly among the mass of Working Class people) getting rid of the illusions in their heads, and becoming aware of the undeniable fact that it is – Capitalism itself, that is at the very root of the major socioeconomic issues facing the USA and the World.

Hence, the real and permanent alternative begins with dismantling Capitalism (through a transitory period), and setting up a new sustainable economic system, based on genuine (“grass root”) democracy, and in which goods and services are produced and distributed to meet the genuine and abundant needs of society – as the primary end-purpose of production and distribution, and doing so with due care for the environment.

In other words, this new and superior system requires that the “profit motive” be no more than a secondary end-purpose of production and distribution (and probably the “profit motive” to be eventually done away with all together, according to the level of moral and ‘spiritual’ enlightenment of the Human Race). Now, again, this is all indeed possible and workable, but ONLY if sufficient people among the Working Class (the class that actually produce virtually ALL the wealth and abundance you see in society) become aware that Capitalism is indeed decadent, and is at the very root of the major issues facing the Human Race and the Environment.

Now, the initial period of changes away from Capitalism will necessarily be exploratory and experimental, and will even be contradictory in some ways. And this is where right knowledge and information among the mass of Working Class people is vital for success. (For the time being, the true enemy of the mass of Working Class people are spreading confusion, illusions, half-truths and misinformation, to help maintain their decadent Capitalist system.)

          • sandra schmidt

Where is J. Edgar Hoover when you need him? What sick, twisted, totalitarian thoughts you have.

          • Nemnor

sandra schmidt, the ONLY hope for the USA (and the World) is to move away from the profit-based economic system. J. Edgar Hoover, could not and did not really fix anything. The policies and actions of US Presidents and other politicians of the past, could only served to temporarily slow down the decline of the system.

But, as you can see, US Capitalism is on a relentless decline for the past 3 or 4 decades. This decline will continue until US Capitalism reaches total collapse/chaos, and/or the USA “trigger” WW-III.

          • sandra schmidt

America has soo many problems right now. We have very bad leadership, the laws are neglected, the country is neglected, the citizens and immigrants are neglected, the economy is abused, society is twisted, etc etc etc…

The problem with this immigration is they are letting everyone in and not controlling the problems. This country is more wild than the African jungle. They have to educate the immigrants right, give them diverse equal opportunities with america’s citizens to live better lives, make the immigrants healthy, teach them right and avoid wrong, build personal diverse organized communities for them, give them high class education, perhaps improve their countries so maybe one day they will return happy and create better generations. We have to reject criminal immigrants and put them in prisons to execute them because they have no rights to come into other countries and do as they please; that is not right. Everybody has to work together to improve and build a better tomorrow.

  • XSANDIEGOCA

Let’s wake up and smell the coffee. We have another 525 days left of the incumbent’s disastrous regime. This is divided into two parts. The period before the election and after. So far, Obama has only dipped his toe into the shallow end of the Socialist Pool. I believe he is planning a belly flop in the deep end before he leaves office. The period until the election will be quite worrisome but it is the period between the election and the inauguration that really concerns me. We can count on Obama putting the pedal to the metal at that time. The old accepted traditions for a quiet transition are out the window with this Marxist Revolutionary. Every reader of this column should prepare to survive in place for at least six months because there could be much disruption. Now, should the GOP win, I believe Obama will trash the country on his way out in the manner of a disgruntled renter leaving a property. Look for Yellen to suddenly raise interest rates. If I were Russia, China or North Korea and had extraterritorial aims, that is when I would move. There is some conjecture that Obama will not leave office. It is a measure of where we are that I can not dismiss such talk out of hand. In any case, prepare while you can.

    • Lorungee

The “belly flop” will occur when he starts to implement the so-called AFFHA. (google it) This is the forced integration of neighborhoods across the nation according to economic standards. HUD is mapping every geological location in the country…right now…

            He has your respect?
            (shakes head in disgust)
What on earth do you find respectable about this guy? Do tell.

          • http://www.mindbodygreen.com Kim

Lol. His composure, I suppose. And his comic relief. We don’t always have to be so serious. I definitely don’t agree with him. But I don’t always disrespect those I disagree with.

          • greyprepper

I getcha. It’s funny, I have the opposite problem. I’ve actually agreed wholeheartedly with a few things he’s posted in the past but I find his mean-spirited posts and greasy, condescending tone to be intolerable.
You’re right though! No need for us to be doom n gloom around the clock. If I had a good sense of humor I would try to pitch in! :)
I suppose I’ll leave it to the professionals.

          • http://www.mindbodygreen.com Kim

Don’t be hard on yourself. You are more right than he/she is. This person is just here to taunt the posters and the creator of this blog, not for any real open and honest dialogue. I am not so naive not to see that.

What I miss in internet discussions (especially on Facebook) is open and honest dialogue. I am glad the moderators let’s him post here. But I don’t see him making a real contribution with stats or facts.

          • greyprepper

Agreed. Good looking out Kim! I appreciate it. :)

          • greyprepper

Now he’s stolen my handle and is posting things under my name. Thank goodness his typo’s give him away. He’s a real comedian…

          • http://www.mindbodygreen.com Kim

I see that. I’m sorry. So stupid.

          • greyprepper

Well I can’t say I blame him. He’s witty but he’s not in the same league as me. If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em! He interpreted that saying a bit too literally it seems…

          • Alwaystomorrow

You are correct. We are 2 different people in 2 different leagues.

So what. We can hate each other or not. you make the call.

          • greyprepper

Ah, your back. Didn’t like getting a taste of your own medicine, eh? I don’t understand why you dish it out to others if you can’t take it. That’s cowardly! I’ll tell you what’s really pathetic; you’re old enough to have grandchildren and I’m a 26 year old high school drop out. You seriously couldn’t handle a high school drop out without resorting to such childish antics?
            Pathetic. Shame on you!
That being said, I will leave you alone when you stop bullying the longtime visitors of this website. I’ve been here almost since the beginning, and I’ll be dearned if some new guy strolls in and starts trolling my people. Either play nice or go away! >:(

          • Alwaystomorrow

I knew you were young (and lonely) by the way Kim calmed you down.

I am at work now and I have a very easy job which requires skills but has minimal work. Those type of jobs come with training and a high school diploma.

I have 8 hours a day to communicate with you.

Just to be clear I do not like you nor do I need your approval to enjoy life.

            I am not going away.

          • greyprepper

A predictable and utterly lame response. I could eat a can of alphabet soup and crap out better comments than you!
Anyhoo, since we’re playing the “I’m better than you game”…
I’m young, attractive, and I have a great physique. I have a stable job, a small side business, and a close knit group of friends from my youth. I’m not wealthy by any means, but I still have money to spend and lend, and I can afford to take a modest vacation every year. I doubt I’m as well off as you are but time is on my side (wish I could say the same for you)!
I sure hope you’re as successful as you claim to be because, from where I’m sitting, your wealth is the only thing you’ve got going for you. :(
Tell Death I said hi when you get there! 😀

          • Alwaystomorrow

            Okay

          • greyprepper

And I thought you couldn’t stoop any lower. You are truly pathetic. Revising your comments to make me look like the bad guy in our lengthy exchanges, stealing my handle and posting a bunch of belligerent nonsense… a clever gambit but you’ve overlooked one very important detail; I really don’t care what anybody on this board thinks. This is between you and me. That’s it. ; D

          • Alwaystomorrow

Read for the comedic value only not spelling or grammar, although I did change it.

    • Mike Smithy

Agreed. In the event of a manufactured false flag event with catastrophic implications, who wins? Proponents of big government and central planners of course. The Soros crowd of paid agitators are already trying to sell the false narrative that unrestrained Capitalism is to blame for societal ills and the low information voters just might buy into the lies and propaganda. However, any intellectually honest person must acknowledge that the USA has not had free market Capitalism in decades.

Here’s what I find funny… At our Food Pantry we get all these donations from retail grocery stores. It’s all meats and products past the expiration date stamped on the package. The consumer is told “don’t eat anything past the expiration date”; but the Food Pantry is told frozen meats are good up to a year past the expiration date and canned goods up to 3 years.

    • James

Expiration dates are not regulated by the USDA.
They are to the whims of the manufacturer/retailer.

    • Vizar

It is called “deadline marketing” by the grocery chains. Make Mom fear the label so she will buy “fresh” food for the fam. Oh the $$$$$!

  • df NJ

“OPEC is basically saying we’re not going to cut production, we’re going to see who can stand lower prices longest,” Shilling said. “Oil is headed for $10 to $20 a barrel.”

Gasoline supplies at all time highs. We should see $1.75 per gallon by Christmas.

    • Lorungee

Then a major oil company announces, like BP did the day before yesterday, 8/12/15, that a refinery just shut down for routine repairs, and the next few hours later, the price at the pump went up over 50 cents a gallon in SE MI.

    • Mike Smithy

df, you are making a mistake in believing that the price of crude has any correlation with the price of gas at the pump. Big oil and big government are in collusion and it is a symbiotic fascist relationship. The government passes onerous EPA in an effort to restrict refining capacity. As a result, big oil extracts better profit margins and bid government maintains a higher marginal tax rate on every gallon of gas sold. Everybody wins except the poor working class schmucks that have to fill their tanks to get to work.

      • http://www.mindbodygreen.com Kim

This is so right. The price of gasoline and the price of crude oil on the open market divorced long ago. It’s so obvious a child could recognize it.

But welfare to Israel is INCREASED as American children go hungry.
Why are American politicians always running over to Israel?
    To collect their BRIBES ……

    • K2

Jews have done a lot to america, and america is a rich country, they can afford to give some to israel. There are poor people in israel too. Also the kind of neighbour hood isreal is in, it needs all the help it can get.

Also nobody is diverting the moeny spent on the food stamp program to israel. That is separate money. Also israel is not the only country that receives aid.

      • Gay Veteran

“…Also israel is not the only country that receives aid.”

indeed, OUR tax dollars need to stay at home. After we’ve fixed Detroit, Camden, St. Louis, etc., then OUR tax dollars can go abroad

        • K2

Who says the aid is made up only by your tax dollars? Also america is also geo-politically benifiting by giving aid to israel.

    • James

      Whats with the antisemitism?

      • Albert Griggs

        What’s with the antiGENTILISM?

        • James

  • Dcn Rick Paine

I am on the board of our local food shelf and we buy a large amount of the food we distribute from Second Harvest Food Bank. Second Harvest has noticed a decline in canned food and other food items donated from large companies, because they are selling those items to dollar stores. One bright note is that one of our clients offered to grow food for our food shelf, if we would buy the seeds. This has worked out great, as the clients are able to get fresh, locally grown, food along with the other items we provide.

  • Rick

Your 4th from the last paragraph starts “when”, aren’t we already in the midst of this greatly contrived economic collapse? I think people aren’t seeing it because the media isn’t pushing it. Instead, they say “when” it comes it will be bad… Personally I am more concerned with a big event that can and probably will take down our grid. Our economy will never get better as long as we keep sending greedy communist criminals to DC.

  • Vizar

Its pretty simple, all political fantasies aside, it is a “Dog eat Dog World.” Always has been (ask our hunter/gatherer tribal ancestors) and always will be. We tried to tame things down with religions (8500 now current and historic and counting) to get humans to “tow the line” for the greater good. Doesn’t seem to work as “Dog eat Dog” is always the central actual religion of mankind. It is as if, genetically, we know we live on a small ball isolated in the vacuum of endless ice-cold and deadly space and that ball has only so much land, forests, water, space, etc.

Read history, it portends the real future.

  • James

Does anyone have any idea how to profit from this?

    • Vizar

Buy ammunition, long-term food supplies, and be sure to have some arable land in a stable and non-urban area and you have some future profits. As security will be a concern, buy and AR-15 and learn how to shoot it real good. As a retired LEO myself I did my time in the “Hell Pits” of modern Amerika. I trained to expert and my sight pattern will paint a pretty picture on anybody’s chest.

    • watchmanonthetower

Research and establish a Barter system for you and your local community. Determining useable skill-sets possessed by neighbors, friends and family is as important, if not more so, than actual useable commodities. Those with medical and/or veterinarian skills will be highly in demand, for example.

A prepared list of skilled local individuals, a known set of stored or producible products, food, fuel, defensive items, etc. and a procedure for *fair trading* may ease the angst and fear in your community when the hammer falls…

…as for profit; well, staying alive to fight for your family and land will have to suffice for now. Profiteers have a funny way of ending up on the business end of a hangin’ rope.

Just a word to the wise, James. :)
      Good luck.

      • Frijebai

That would make for an interesting social media website.

here in maine a local veteran told me he tried to get public assistance recently. he was told if he were an illegal alien he would be eligible to get help. he was told the feds have set aside $8 million in maine alone to help support illegals.can’t imagine he’d lie about that!!

    • Vizar

Being an “American” is meaningless anymore (if it ever really meant anything). Our Guvment is NOT our friend and it is no longer “We the People” it is “We the 1% and our billions” verses the masses of deluded fools we parasite off of. When I was disabled years ago (purple heart) the government employees actually laughed at me when I sought some “benefits.” You are on your own and need really good and real friends, maybe your family but that is variable as we pick our friends.

  • David Swanson

Illegals, H1B visa and refugees are placing a strain on employment opportunities but also social and charity services in metropolitan areas. Economically disenfranchised Americans and disabled compete with foreigners in their own country!

Not everyone can be equal and have top tier jobs and since the outsourcing began there is a giant sucking sound in the economy. When there are too many hungry desperate people in a confined area, the survival instinct is in play.

Why this country is allowing more desperate people to immigrate to America is beyond my comprehension. The opportunity isn’t here nor is there capital to start a business and starting a business is too expense punitive with all the bureaucracy, mandates and regulations. You are being sunk before you even start the legal way. Disgusting.

    • K2

H1B people only makeup a small percentage of immigrants. But i agree with your point, the H1B program must be stopped.

      • James

There are only 65k of H1B each year.
Companies have to push so much paper to hire h1b.
Outsourcing would occur with/without h1b, but h1b workers pay into ss, medicare, and us general revenues unlike some random person living in india

        • K2

”but h1b workers pay into ss, medicare, and us general revenues ”

So do the workers whom they replace.
And saying that outsourcing will increase is usually the line peddled by companies who bring in H1B’S. They should not be allowed to outsource/bring H1b’s and should only hire american workers. Software companies in the states are some of the richest among companies.

  • K2

Although i am not an american, its very saddening to see these kind of articles. The country really needs to get back on its feet.

  • jonthebaptist

What’s coming is much bigger than guns, gold, silver, food storage, beans, band-aids, bug out bags, secret locations, fortified bunkers, buried cash,or bartering items. Those things are going to rot or be stolen from you. You must be “born again” to be “saved” from what is coming. The best part is, if you have not “prepared” as many people on this site recommend, you can always get prepared quickly by asking Jesus Christ to live and rule your life. It’s quite simple. If you believe in your heart and speak with your lips that Jesus is Lord, you will be saved. Oh, did I mention…. IT’S FREE!

    • Vizar

My motto, “Trust in Almighty God” and use the brain he gave for obvious reasons. Thus, prayer, ammo, food and an AR go along way toward the future. As my Grandma said, “Any fool can pray, it takes more to follow God’s will.” Passing out bibles is fine until you get under fire, then you will be happy for some earthly firepower.

      • GSOB

        Agree.
Pray for thy enemies is to balanced by loving your neighbor as yourself.
If you see someone about to do injustice to your neighbor, …perhaps threatening their property or lives,…. you’d stop that someone.
If you don’t and had the means to, guess what?

Ours is a gospel of peace.
There is no virtue to being a pacifist to such a degree as to do nothing to help a victim.

I’m not brave enough to be a pacifist, …if one considers it brave to do nothing.

The most important thing is to do His will but in Him we shall overcome. (By His strength)

        Our God is a Warrior,
        King,
        Mentor
        and Friend…..
the four pillars of a man’s heart… the image of God he was created in…. but only He is the Lord and Redeemer.

        We are not.

I wonder how many of these who are getting food stamps and getting food from food closets are either illegals from Mexico and places south, and Muslims being brought in from the Middle East by the Obama gang. Muslims have already been complaining about not getting the proper food from food closets. Not Muslim approved. All these people are coming in and being put on welfare programs of one type or another. They have no skills for the work force. Now, crank in all the people who have lived in the US all their lives, and are out of work, and pretty much out of hope. A study I would like to see done by some one who knows where to look, would be the suicide rate in the US for the last 10 years. That above all else, shows just how bad things are, and just how many people have given up.

    • GSOB

There can be victory in the Christian life.

But the transition from a “flesh”- directed life to a Spirit-led life requires huge changes in our belief system as well as completely different habits of thinking and living.

We learn as babies learn to walk; from falling pretty often in the beginning….
      likewise,
if we are to learn genuine Christian living, then we must do so grounded in a profound assurance that we are secure in Christ.

This isn’t a performance based or conditional salvation…. no, it is a full salvation bought by Christ’s own blood.

So we begin with an assurance of peace with God.

      • http://www.coroflot.com/joelpeeters/portfolio Joel Peeters

Well I agree, but what’s the link with the comment of Richard precisely?

        • GSOB

          The link?
Peace with God and with man.
Christ is the mediator. He is the Prince of peace.
Christ is the centrality and universality of God’s economy.
He is the way, the truth and the life.
          I hope you understand.

I think it should be pointed out that those who live in rural areas will in many cases fare better than metropolitan dwellers. That being the case I predict these mobs of destitute and hungry citizens will begin combing the countryside “taking” whatever they want from those who cannot or will not fight for what they have. Americans are unprepared for the level of violence we’re soon to face. Do not for one minute believe all of them will just lay down and wither of starvation. Americans will in fact face a “survival of the fittest” existence .
Nothing we’ve ever been taught has adequately prepared us for the reality of what’s to come.

    • fasleflagusa

We are prepared to deal with these holligans. We may even leave a few bodies in the streets to teach a lesson to “”the others.”” Kapeesh?

  • Sandbagger

I don’t think the average American living in air-conditioned suburbia is purposely looking down on those in poverty. They watch mainstream news and don’t see long food lines in their neighborhoods, so there is no problem going on (in their minds).

These same people don’t go look at their local food bank because unless they are humanitarian and volunteer, they go along with their everyday lives worrying about their own family. They aren’t looking for trouble and are minding their own business.

The food bank in our hometown is reporting an uptick in those who need help, too. Luckily, our food bank allows us to deliver excess garden produce and eggs from our own chickens. They aren’t hand-tied by regulations requiring “certified” foodstuff. They also accept expired foods and have staff on hand to explain to recipients how to identify cans and jars that are safe; regardless of the sell-by, use-by, best-by dates. From what I’ve heard, not all food banks are this logical. Which cuts into the food that could be delivered to them.

When my parents were short, my sibs and I found ways to make money on our own. Once my sisters saw me getting ready to sell some holiday wares, they jumped in to help and we made $300 plus that day (1991 dollars). Two years ago I walked into a bank with a 40k check my sis and I earned on an unrelated project. This afternoon I shot her a picture of $3000k of our product shipping at a 67% profit margin, the lowest margin we are willing to negotiate. We ship 3 times a week. We launched that business just this year. I say let those kids work. They have nothing better to do.

The way the right are attacking Donald Trump is amazing. They just don’t get it what he’s selling. Trump is selling two things. First is confidence. People like Trump because he is confident. Second, he is in total control over his life. People are desparate to have just the tiniest amount of control over their lives. Trump has captured lightening in a bottle. And it absolutely doesn’t matter what he says or what he does. As long as he keeps selling confidence and control he’s unstoppable.

Bernie Claus has a very good chance also. People love Christmas.

I see comments that people should take their problems to their governments. This has not or ever will work as governments are about power, not helping it’s people.

Want to improve your situation, buy seeds to grow food, learn skills that improve your survival chances.

Basically you need to take responsibly for your own life through your own actions to make your own life better.

Hoping the government is going to come and fix your life is a foolish and dangerous mindset.

Action always cures or at least improves a situation.

People third world countries seem to have had the drive to prosper beaten out of them. That is also going on in the USA but while it’s getting some success I see a lot of prepper web sites fighting it.

I never could understand why people in Africa were so poor and so far behind the rest of the world. If civilization started there like all history books say it did, they have had more time to build a good life, but they have done next to nothing. They should be way ahead of the rest of the planet, but it’s the other way around???

Who knows how it’s going to turn out in this country?

But personally I know how to do a lot of useful things and am always learning more things and striving to make my life better without the help of the government.

I have a workable and very doable solution and it can be implemented immediately. Let us collectively call this one Operation: Soylent Green.
The question is always raised if there will be some collateral damage, and the answer is YES! That’s the whole point of it, we need to reduce, reduce, reduce, Cut the population in half, then half again, and again, and again until we have a manageable number. Sure a few vagrants, nut jobs and stinky poos will have to help out, and we thank them!!

Every time I walk into a grocery store there is a 350 pound woman with six kids pushing a cart full of soda and potato chips. All paid for with a snap card.
    G21 is right.
We are going down the tubes.

pulltheweeds, the ‘issue’ you mentioned is (more or less) a symptom of the decadent and decaying Capitalist economic system.

Of course, the matter is more complex than (simply) saying it is decadent Capitalism. But, Capitalism is indeed at the very root of all the major socioeconomic issues facing the USA and the World as a whole. And, the real and only solution begins with dismantling Capitalism, along with other challenging and fundamental changes needed.

      • willkes

Ummm, no. Capitalism works when everyone does their part. There is no better way.

So what do you suggest as a replacement – Marxism, a global monarchy, slavery?

46 million American rely on food banks yet, the criminal US Government give millions to Israel every day…SAD

E6 at 10.4 in July. That’s the lowest its been since Jul 2008.
At seems at any moment of time there’s equal evidence to support a bull or bear market. People see what they want to see. It’s how our brains work.

It is appalling that the warmongering Gnomes at the Pentagon cannot account for $8.5 trillions spent on Black Projects when 46 Americans cannot find adequate food. The Gnomes should be in jail.

The US National Debt is nearly $19 trillion and rising at the rate of $1 trillion a year and there is no way the US can pay its debts.

Yet the US is waging endless wars all over the world. Who gains? The Khazarian Mafia (KM) who controls the FED, the Wall Street to big to fail banks owned by the KM and the MIC which is also controlled by the KM.

Google the ‘Hidden Secrets of the Khazarian Mafia’ by Preston James of Veterans Today,

Time to wake up and end the FED, America.

  • tacoma

Well Mike, a country that can afford to give away 3 billion pounds of free food is actually in pretty good shape.

I will believe America in collapse when 46 million Americans cross the borders to Canada and Mexico illegally in search of a better life.

But of course before such a exodus happens the Pentagon will invade these two countries and take them over first.

Jct: Keep in mind, these Americans had the vote and voted for those doing it to them. Not like starving people with dictators who had no vote on whether they’re prefer starving. Yup, Yankees voted for what they’re now getting. Har har har har har har. From a always-losing candidate who wanted to reprogram the banks computers to give them interest-free loans! Har har har har har har! Who’s the loser, the candidate offering them interest-free credit or the voters who kept voting no?

There’s something going on when mainstream media won’t touch these topics but stir the racial tension pot any chance they get. Anytime a criminal, who so happens to be black, gets shot by the police, the media helps distort the facts and portrays the individual as a victim. Michael Brown, for instance, was a thug that physically assaulted a police officer and lost his life because of it. The evidence was clear, yet the media still presents this kid as a victim. Why? When have you heard statistics about government assistance or food lines on mainstream media? It’s not what’s on the news that should alarm you, it’s what isn’t on the news that you know is taking place as we speak. And look at the way the media supports and promotes the gun grab agenda, when’s the last time you’ve heard them report on an incident where a firearm saved someone’s life? According to our own governments admittance, firearms save hundreds of thousands of lives each year, but somehow that goes completely unreported by mainstream media. Instead, they participate in th cohersion of convincing Americans to voluntarily give up their guns for a $100 Walmart card. So put the pieces together of this kindergarten level puzzle and you have a government that is on a constant attack to erode your civil liberties, most importantly being your right to bear arms, and a media that promotes this agenda while manipulating the masses that this country is in perfect economic health. When an economy tanks, it’s much easier to control a mob throwing rocks than a country of armed citizens.

How do food banks or any organization know whether they are legal Americans or illegal invaders? Then, are we Americans responsible for the corruption in Venezuela and other third world countries? We have been the only country to generously help those countries and I find that they for the most part are ungrateful. Just listen to the Pope and you’ll agree.

  • Jacqueleen

Where do you think the unskilled invader is going and how will they eat…FOOD STAMPS, FOOD BANKS, CHURCHES, ETC.? Yes, indeed, America is falling into poverty…First jobs were sent abroad and nothing left behind to keep the American worker afloat…Second, invaders are coming here by the millions abusing our entitlements and this is besides the one million immigrants who come here annually…LEGALLY! Americans do have to wake up…This country is not mentioned in the Book of Revelations…start wondering why?

If they are in assistance, then don’t you think giving them some cash, or some food from the supermarket would be better than gifting them iPods? Does your enlightened soul say something about this?

  • MarkO

If you wander into a convienience store in Eastern Kentucky around the end of the month you will see mountains of Mountain Dew 12 packs stacked everywhere.
Here is how it works: EBT cards are used to purchase 12 packs of MD for say $6. The people then sell those 12 packs to wholesalers for $3. The wholesalers turn around and resell to the stores for $4.50. And the cycle continues. The cash is then used to buy drugs, alcohol and cigarettes.

You’re blaming the President? How about the Republicans who are beholden to their billionaire capitalist financiers? Let’s blame those who are against the raising of the minimum wage, for tax breaks for the rich, against raising taxes on the wealthy, against national health care, against public schools, against Social security, against unions that would raise wages, etc. etc. How about we blame those responsible instead of our good President who has battled these traitors all along?

  • WhoCaresFU

I know a woman that lives off of us tax payers. She can’t get a job, because “she knows” it would make her ineligible for her so-called mental disability benefits. Which is basically the fact that she cannot quit smoking pot. So she lives in basically free subsidized housing, with free healthcare, very reduced cable (including Internet), free heat and very reduced electricity, e.t.c. Are you not glad that you work for a living to pay for the leaches?
