Deutsche Bank Profit Plunges 98 Percent As The Outlook For ‘The World’s Riskiest Bank’ Darkens

Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Google+Share on LinkedInShare on StumbleUponEmail this to someone

Crash Arrow Down - Public DomainThe biggest and most important bank in the biggest and most important country in Europe continues to implode right in front of our eyes.  If you follow my work regularly, you probably already know that I issued a major alarm about Deutsche Bank last September.  Subsequently, Deutsche Bank stock hit an all-time low.  Then I sounded the alarm about Deutsche Bank again back in May, and once again that was followed by another all-time low for Deutsche Bank.  And then I warned about Deutsche Bank again in early June, and you can probably imagine what happened after that.  Over the past year, this German banking giant has literally been coming apart at the seams, and in so many ways it is paralleling exactly what happened to Lehman Brothers back in 2008.

Today, we got some more bad news from Deutsche Bank.  Compared to the exact same period last year, profits were down 98 percent.  A nearly 100 percent drop in net income spooked a lot of investors, and Deutsche Bank shares got hit hard on Wednesday.  Of course Deutsche Bank shares are already down by more than half over the past 12 months, and the financial sharks can smell blood in the water.

Just like Lehman Brothers in 2008, Deutsche Bank is essentially in panic mode at this point.  They recently announced that they will be closing 188 branches and that 3,000 workers will be losing their jobs.  But this could just be the beginning of the layoffs at the bank.  According to some reports, the bank could cut up to  35,000 jobs by the year 2020, and CEO John Cryan recently admitted that they “may have to accelerate cost-cutting measures“.

What makes all of this even more alarming is that Deutsche Bank is widely considered to be “the most dangerous bank” on the entire planet.  The following comes from a CNN article posted just today entitled “The world’s riskiest bank is in trouble“…

What is going on with Deutsche Bank?

Germany’s biggest lender was dubbed the world’s riskiest bank by the International Monetary Fund last month, just as one of its U.S. businesses failed a Federal Reserve stress test.

Its shares are down 45% this year, and on Wednesday it said second quarter profits were wiped out by a 98% slump in earnings. The stock fell 2.5% in Frankfurt.

The primary reason why Deutsche Bank is “the world’s riskiest bank” is because of the mammoth derivatives portfolio that is possesses.  It currently has 42 trillion euros of exposure to derivatives, which is an amount of money about 13 times the size of the entire German economy.

When Deutsche Bank finally goes down for good, it is going to be “the shot heard around the financial world”, and it will be a disaster many times greater than the collapse of Lehman Brothers in 2008.  Just consider what Jeff Gundlach had to say about the bank earlier this year

“Banks are dying and policymakers don’t know what to do,” Gundlach said. “Watch Deutsche Bank shares go to single digits and people will start to panic… you’ll see someone say, ‘Someone is going to have to do something.'”

As I write this, shares of Deutsche Bank are sitting at just $13.63, and many experts are having a very difficult time finding any reason for optimism.  In fact, Edward Misrahi has stated that the bank is his number one short trade, and Jim Collins says that “it is just impossible” to recommend buying shares of Deutsche Bank even at this depressed level…

As an equity analyst, it is just impossible to recommend shares of a bank that is not growing revenue. So really, Deutsche is an untouchable, and the stock market is trying — to the tune of a 58% decline in DB’s market value in 12 months — to recalibrate Deutsche’s market capitalization to the true value of its assets net of liabilities. That’s a painful journey.

I don’t mean to just pick on Deutsche Bank.  Certainly there are a lot of other major banks around the globe that are also teetering on the brink right now.  Just take a look at Italy.  Basically their entire banking system is in the process of melting down.

But the utter collapse of Italy’s banking system won’t have the same kind of worldwide impact that the collapse of Deutsche Bank will.

Unlike some of his predecessors, CEO John Cryan is being honest about some of the struggles that Deutsche Bank is going through right now, and he admits that they may need to be “more ambitious in our restructuring”.  The following comes from Business Insider

Cryan said in a statement (emphasis ours):

“We have continued to de-risk our balance sheet, to invest in our processes and to modernize our infrastructure. However, if the current weak economic environment persists, we will need to be yet more ambitious in the timing and intensity of our restructuring.”

He said something similar in a note to employees (emphasis again ours):

“Here I would like to speak plainly. If this weak economic environment persists, we will need to be still more ambitious in our restructuring. We will do everything in our power to accelerate the measures we have already planned.”

Yes, I know that the stock market in the United States has been setting all sorts of all-time record highs lately.

But that doesn’t change what is going on in the rest of the world one bit.

The financial crisis that has been gripping Europe, Asia, South America and most of the rest of the planet since the second half of last year is accelerating.

And it is inevitable that the U.S. is going to be experiencing some very real pain in the not too distant future as well.

So even though things may seem a bit quiet this summer in the financial world, the truth is that there is a whole lot going on under the surface.

Deutsche Bank is one glaringly obvious example of this, but there are many others all over the globe.  And not too long from now, the dominoes will begin to fall very rapidly.

    • aldownunder

What I’m wondering is what the hell are you on and where can I get some

      Fruit loop

  • HeyAHuman

What happened to all of the naysayers that think prepping is for silly lunatics? Where are they now?

    • greanfinisher .

I’m not sure that prepping will do any bit of good. In the event of a major crisis, the military will simply confiscate food, cash, guns and anything else that they can get their hands on.

      • HeyAHuman

Then what? March all 330 million people into camps? I just can’t see that happening without chaos.

        • greanfinisher .

If a major calamity should befall the nation, martial law would surely be activated. In such a scenario, the government could ration anything and everything, and would use every means at its disposal to achieve that end.

          • Richard Chiu

They cannot. They can ensure that absolutely no restrictions on targeting of ‘innocents’ are observed, but they will not win that way.

          • greanfinisher .

Ever try to tangle with a military governor?

          • GV

the U.S. military couldn’t defeat a bunch of goat herders in Afghanistan and Iraq

          • greanfinisher .

The difference being that the U.S. military wasn’t on its home turf.

          • GV

they haven’t won a war since WWII (well, actually the Soviets defeated Germany).

            oh, I forgot Grenada

          • Richard Chiu

Some of that ilk have tried tangling with me. I know what they are, and what their promises are worth.

        • greanfinisher .

To answer your question directly, some will undoubtedly be herded into FEMA camps while others will simply ‘disappear’. Still many others will be drafted into civilian and military duties.

          • Richard Chiu

Families of oathbreakers can be made to ‘disappear’ too, if it comes to that.

Defeatists and those unwilling to do what is necessary to, eventually.

          • greanfinisher .

Easier said than done. Actually, people will simply be denied the means to do anything outside of protocol.

      • Mike Smithy

They can’t take your preps if they don’t know you have them. I have several weapons with ammo packed in axle grease inside of water tight containers buried on my property.

        • greanfinisher .

When you have several M4 carbines pointed at your chest, I think that you will tell all. If not, they will discover those weapons anyway, and then shoot you on the spot.

          • ALWAYSTOMORROW

With his own weapons and then have a celebratory feast with his food preps.

          • greanfinisher .

Those people will not fool around at all, and have absolutely no patience.

          • Richard Chiu

Then at some point, we need to make a commitment to kill all the families of such oathbreakers, along with all the families of anyone that continues to support them in any way.

Eventually, we need to exterminate the families of anyone who even complies with them under duress.

If we’re feeling merciful, those deemed guilty by association will have relatively quick deaths…but if things go that direction, perhaps nobody with the strength to survive will be feeling particularly merciful.

          • greanfinisher .

In the event of martial law, most people would just cower and huddle inside their homes. Any type of movement outside the premises would be heavily restricted (check points), and curfews would be set in place.

          • Richard Chiu

Then most people are going to die.

          • Mike Smithy

Oh no, please don’t “hoot” me.

          • ALWAYSTOMORROW

            Fully automatic assault owls….

          • ALWAYSTOMORROW

            Don’t worry, I on’t. 🙂

          • greanfinisher .

They will simply proceed on with the search and seizure.

          • Mike Smithy

Speak for yourself, not everyone is a wussy.

          • greanfinisher .

Everyone wants to stay alive too. Lest one forgets, those soldiers are trained to kill as that happens to be their occupation. When the soldiers arrive at your door, they will likely be tired and irritable. Show them any resistance at all, and they will simply take you out.

        • plataoplomo

Dig em up mike….the govt isn’t coming for them….your neighbors are. When the lights go out and the trucks stop running they’ll let us eat ourselves until they decide to come to the rescue. My advice would be to go someplace where life stinks enough that people know how to take care of themselves without electricity….there’ll be far less chaos there. You can make your way back in 60-90 days and it’ll all be over.

Prepping may or may not help us considering what event may come soon. If a nuke were to land close enough, well of course it’s over concerning our life on earth. We prep for this life as we can, but prep for the eternal most importantly. Next world war to come soon…. sixth trumpet war that’s described in the Bible. God first through Christ, the eternal.

        • greanfinisher .

In the event of another world war, I would predict that only the dead will be the fortunate ones.

      • Joltin Joe

Yeah right, if it gets that bad there is no military or police, they will all be looking out for themselves.

        • greanfinisher .

The military will only be following orders. You see, the government in charge will have the responsibility to insure that everyone is fed, clothed and sheltered (which brings us to the confiscating and rationing).

          • Joltin Joe

They can’t insure that…. not enough resources in SHTF situation. Military (most) will blend back into the population and be looking out for themselves, you may have some military following orders but they will be outnumbered and probably out gunned.

          • greanfinisher .

You would be surprised at the immense resources the government would have at its disposal. The military governor (the President) is going to do whatever it takes to keep the country alive and well, and he/she will confiscate whatever properties, and resources necessary to achieve that objective. Under martial law, you have absolutely no rights or freedoms whatsoever. In fact, you will own positively nothing. You will simply be a ward of the state.

          • Joltin Joe

            Yeah, I won’t be a slave, that much I promise you 😉

  • greanfinisher .

Oh, I think that the U.S. treasury secretary (along with his counterparts) will do whatever it takes to keep Deutsche Bank afloat, and they won’t give a hoot about the resulting collateral damage that might follow. This could mean (but not necessarily limited to) raiding savings and retirement accounts around the globe to keep the bank afloat.

  • YMI

Speaking of the economy: We just entered a new paradigm shift called Virtual reality/augmented realty, a 150 billion dollar industry (pokemon go, anyone?) Plus ,the rise of bitcoin. It’s @ll part of the ‘Shift’!Hang tight Michael!)

Honestly I don’t know when or if a crash is in the stars so I will just continue doing what I have been doing for the last 52 years. Work, save and enjoy life. So far it has worked well for me.

          • Jazz

Same with me! If the many here spent as much time working hard, starting businesses, saving money and investing as they do preparing for doom and gloom they wouldn’t need to complain about the hard economic times. Just saying!

          • Jerry C

“just continue doing what I have been doing for the last 52 years”

“3Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, 4And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. 5For
this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the
heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the
water: 6Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:”

Willingly ignorant. Straight from the inspired Word of God.

I get it. Most people don’t understand where you are coming from because you are praising/condoning illegal behavior. Until marijuana becomes legal on a federal level, it will never be accepted as the medicine it is. Do you think drug companies want competition? This is the wrong forum anyway. Most people on this blog are worried about financial freedom, not a mental/spiritual awakening. You must give respect to get it.

          • YMI

Thx for understanding ! speaking of weed and the econ- omy. WEED IS THE NEW ECONOMY! like I said before ,I study this AMAZING PLANT! it’s the green Jesus! Jesus h christ! lol

          • plataoplomo

No…weed is outside the economy….it’s only a factor now because we are still maintaining this system….you’re on a level of thinking concerning the Mary Jane that is past the economic ramifications of it. And that’s good….just don’t admit to the folks still hung up on hating lazy 60’s hippies and the stigmatism of legalities or they’ll stop listening and just scream pothead at you…

          • YMI

ok , I’l keep that in mind.

          • JC Teecher

That may be the case for all those that got in on the Medical Marijuana train at the onset, and are raking in millions, but as with anything where big profits are realized, the gov and corporations get involved and kill it for the average worker.

I see a future for California and Colorado whereby Corporate sized green houses rule the day and take the majority of the profits out of growing, by flooding the market. There will be a demand for “craft” growers products, but not the large profits seen today.

There is a place in society for medical mary jane, but there are negative lasting effects from chronic toker users, that haven’t even surfaced yet.

I believe cancer will be a part of the links to chronic use. I was a stoner during the 70’s, and believed it was harmless. That was until I got involved with a girl that lived in Texas, and then moved to our area in early 80’s. We were actually engaged at one point. She had a horrible scar from her backbone all the way around to her sternum under her left ta ta. When i asked, she said she had lung cancer and had to have half a lung removed. I asked how long she had smoked cigarettes, and her reply,
“I have never smoked cigarettes, only pot, since i was 15.” She was only 26 at the time.

      • YMI

Like I told the other fellow, I AM NOT HIGH ,STONED, JUST TRYING TO GET U TO THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX! YOULL thank me one day!

        Lol

    • aldownunder

      Come on
Your on more than weed space cadet

      • YMI

R U retarded? DO U KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT CANNABIS, WEED? I CHALLENGE U , I know more about weed than a dr.BRING IT ON!

        • ALWAYSTOMORROW

Ever heard the story of Icarus? Be careful how high you get, you might get burned….

          • YMI

U got a listening problem, pal! LIKE I SAID I WAS NOT HIGH, STONED . For the billionth time U DONT KNOW S$#T about how weed works.

          • ALWAYSTOMORROW

On the contrary. I was quite the pot head. Realized there is a threshold. Quit with help. Decided to abstain. Sounds like somebody is in denial.

          • someonewhogrewupinsnow

More importantly 80 million plus Americans take “medicine” everyday that are much more harmful than weed. Interestingly

enough the DSM has increased in size dramatically every new edition that is printed. And what do ya know….along with every “diagnosis” there is an exact “medication” to help. But cannabis is the problem right? But “potheads” are the brain dead ones right? What a joke this blog is…thanks for the entertainment!!! More Xanax please Mr. Huxley!

          • ALWAYSTOMORROW

Quiting is not necessary. Moderation is key.

Weed is a “tool for spiritual awakening.”
What a joke! Weed is just another crutch for the masses to imbibe in, it is the lazy way to supposedly reach “nirvana”. Weak and feeble-minded people need big pharma and illicit drugs to numb them from the reality of this world. It isn’t a “spiritual awakening”, it is a pollution of the soul – adulterating the spirit with a drug-induced fog. Most Americans are too lazy and apathetic for a spiritual awakening, they expect (just like you) a drug to take them there. They don’t want to do the inner and outer work, they want to take a pill and be spirited down the proverbial rabbit hole. Doesn’t work that way, weed isn’t going to do anything except make you corpulent, apathetic and lethargic. By the way, you don’t even know what a “spiritual awakening” is, you just pander to those who want to get high. Another false teacher leading people down another false path…

I agree, totally. However; I can see a few situations were some may benefit from cannabis oil.

I don’t come down on people too hard because i was once in the same “fog” and believed because it was natural, it was meant to be used.
If that is the worse thing people do than i guess it keeps them from other things.

If it leads to worse drugs, and it is a drug, a mind altering one, that has lasting affects; then i believe it fits into the category of a gateway drug and becomes something very very bad.

I never realized all the issues in my life that couldn’t get resolved while smoking weed, until I gave it up.

Everyone has to sail their own ship, and so it goes with the wildwood weed.

If you truly loved connecting with people you would go outside and talk to somebody. I honestly hate connecting with people. I just like critiquing people. That’s why I’m here.

      • YMI

I hear. However this is how some of us ‘connect ‘ in the modern world. The web is an extension of our collective brain.

        • plataoplomo

But you don’t really know anyone you’re “connecting” with. You think your blogosphere buddies wouldn’t shoot you over the last bag of beans? They don’t know you any more than you know them. Knowing someone means getting deeper than a screen.

I agree that some stocks are being “rigged” due to corporate buy back deals, to inflate the market share.

However; this latest spike in the Wall Street markets are more about investments in shares in the US, instead of less productive International stocks.
Stocks are pretty much all over-valued right now, and ripe for an implosion.
Just look at Alphabet/google and Faceplant, Overvalued and built on hype for two companies that produce absolutely nothing. If they were wiped off the face of the earth tomorrow, people would go on surviving. yea, some employees would have a lot lighter wallets, but could survive.

if America is quiet right now, it is just the calm before the storm, in the next couple/three months. For most, it could be the sheeet storm of their lives.

      • Jerry C

Quiet before the storm or eye of the tornado that started in 2008?

I’ve worked for 3 different banks including Deutsche Bank. In terms of a dysfunctional family, DB was the worst of the three. However, there’s a reason why the world’s banks have or own the tallest buildings in the wealthiest cities. I doubt DB will go away any time soon even with all their problems. The thing about a bank is they are fortress of wealth making technologies. They will probably have a bunch of layoffs, sell some assets, have a few bad quarters, and then come roaring back. I’ve seen it lots of times.

    • Jerry C

Exchange DB for Titantic and your rant sounds strangely familiar.

  • jj

Deutsche won’t collapse and this is the reason. About 50% of derivatives are protection from rising interest rates so the plan is to let them expire worthless. If the market forces rate spikes banks will do what they did in 2008/9 and doing now with the defaulted energy loans and not mark to market since nobody is using GAAP accounting rules and not writing off loans or debt or counter party risk. Central banks will not let any of the big banks fail because of the market chaos that was created with the collapse of Lehman and Bear Stearns. Also Deutsche has a branch in the US because they are parking capital at the FED and receiving a positive interest where if the capital stays with the ECB they must pay to park funds.

With huge capital flowing into the US from Europe this is causing banks in Italy, Portugal and Greece starting to have serious liquidity problems all caused by the negative interest rate policy of the ECB. The is one reason why the EU is disintegrating and the crisis is spreading.

    • Jerry C

Interesting you mention Italy, Portugal & Greece who happen to be three of the ten permanent voting members of the Western European Union. If someone reading doesn’t understand the significance, I suggest reading the book of Daniel & Revelation. Very interesting indeed.

  • JC Teecher

Once again, the warnings are sounding. The whistles of impending collapse of the world’s monetary systems are blaring. Most people that have not felt the “pinch” of the global drought, are deaf to the warning whistles.

Michael has tried to warn folks for a long time. Some try to dismiss his warnings as the usual blathering of Prepper Site owners, just to make a buck. I don’t see it that way. Michael knows that all the $$ in the world will not make any difference on Judgment Day.

He has given the warnings concerning two sleeping giants that could bring down global economies in a matter of weeks. This one, concerning Deutsche Bank, and the other…the whole of Japan’s economy.

I wrote about Japan over a year ago (closer to two), on another site, with concerns of it being the catalyst that sets the dominoes crashing down. Now, Japan has set it’s course to make that happen, by repeating the same tactics as before….injecting another stimulus, through debt, into the economy. This time it’s another 265 billion, coupled with lower “negative” interest rates.

These tactics never work out in the end. it’s a bubble that eventually has to bust. I see a busting coming this Fall. I hope I am wrong and all things work out for all peoples. But, as a Christian, I am also praying for God’s Will to be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.

    Watchers! Plan accordingly.

The Collapse is coming the question is when and how? Regardless of what anyone’s opinion might be, a book written 2K years ago, reveals a new economic system is coming. Only an idiot, fool or liar etc would deny that as we speak the technology is in place to implement this new system described in Revelation 13. The only question is how will it be unveiled? Through total economic collapse or after war?

As predictions go, i get lucky sometimes. As my wife can attest to, I have been real close on many of the last four triple crown horse races. And no, i don’t wager on horse races, dog races, or even piglet races. In fact, lady luck has never smiled down on the penny poker games in the past, so I don’t bet. The wife and i always write down our Trifecta picks during the TC races, and she plays the NCAA Basketball pools for fun.

anyways, I made a gut reaction prediction on oil a few months ago that it would hit $50 a barrel in/by July. Well, that came into being in June, but who would have ever thought the price would drop by 10 bucks before the end of July, during the peak of travel season.

I don’t really have a good answer for the drop, other than the economy is nowhere near as good as the dems want us to believe. The supply has grown, thanks in part to Iranian oil, but we were supposed to be using it faster this summer.

As the old saying goes, don’t look a gift horse in the mouth. We just enjoy keeping a few extra bucks to put towards preps this summer.
My gut says it won’t last. Hopefully it holds out till folks get their oil and gas tanks filled for winter. Right, it is hard to think about heating fuel supplies when it is sweltering outside. Our back porch, in the shade, was 101 on Tuesday.

    • Maddog

Filling the propane on Tuesday and the diesel tanks continuously and it was 105 today. I guess just having to watch our country collapse sends chills down my spine.

      • JC Teecher

        That’s a good one.
Chills ain’t happening, or at least not for long.
I used to handle the cold, but as long as i got firewood, and I got plenty, we ain’t getting cold nor hungry. Beans and rice out the yeng yang, and fixins galore. i usually winter feed a dozen deer at any given time in the evenings in our front yard/hayfield, and have skinned many a buck.

A big storm rolled thru with straight lined winds over 80 mph, a couple weeks ago, and took out a big red oak, about 16″ at the base. It is laying about sixty feet from the back porch, so when the weather cools, the ole Still 044 will heat up.

Good planning with the propane and diesel.

While watching Faux News or Fox news last night I listened as the analysts discussed the massive debt bubble that is ready to pop (again). According to their financial estimates the European banking system along with other indebted nations (which includes all nations) is currently sitting at $3 trillion dollars. According to this panel when the ’08 housing crisis hit the banking industry debt was sitting at $1 trillion when someone took the American Dream punch bowl away. This reincarnated Lehman Brothers bank pending collapse is a behemoth! That would mean that when this bubble bursts it is going to be at least three times as destructive as the ’08 debt crisis. Not a soul on earth can hide from it nor shield its destructive carnage at least not those who still own their souls.
