Economic Recovery? 13 Of The Biggest Retailers In America Are Closing Down Stores

Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Google+Share on LinkedInShare on StumbleUponEmail this to someone

Closed Sign - Photo by JamesAlan1986Barack Obama recently stated that anyone that is claiming that America’s economy is in decline is “peddling fiction“.  Well, if the economy is in such great shape, why are major retailers shutting down hundreds of stores all over the country?  Last month, I wrote about the “retail apocalypse” that is sweeping the nation, but since then it has gotten even worse.  Closing stores has become the “hot new trend” in the retail world, and “space available” signs are going up in mall windows all over the United States.  Barack Obama can continue huffing and puffing about how well the middle class is doing all he wants, but the truth is that the cold, hard numbers that retailers are reporting tell an entirely different story.

Earlier today, Sears Chairman Eddie Lampert released a letter to shareholders that was filled with all kinds of bad news.  In this letter, he blamed the horrible results that Sears has been experiencing lately on “tectonic shifts” in consumer spending

In a letter to shareholders on Thursday, Lampert said the impact of “tectonic shifts” in consumer spending has spread more broadly in the last year to retailers “that had previously proven to be relatively immune to such shifts.”

“Walmart, Nordstrom, Macy’s, Staples, Whole Foods and many others have felt the impact of disruptive changes from online competition and new business models,” Lampert wrote.

And it is very true – Sears is doing horribly, but they are far from alone.  The following are 13 major retailers that are closing down stores…

#1 Sears lost 580 million dollars in the fourth quarter of 2015 alone, and they are scheduled to close at least 50 more “unprofitable stores” by the end of this year.

#2 It is being reported that Sports Authority will file for bankruptcy in March.  Some news reports have indicated that around 200 stores may close, but at this point it is not known how many of their 450 stores will be able to stay open.

#3 For decades, Kohl’s has been growing aggressively, but now it plans to shutter 18 stores in 2016.

#4 Target has just finished closing 13 stores in the United States.

#5 Best Buy closed 30 stores last year, and it says that more store closings are likely in the months to come.

#6 Office Depot plans to close a total of 400 stores by the end of 2016.

The next seven examples come from one of my previous articles

#7 Wal-Mart is closing 269 stores, including 154 inside the United States.

#8 K-Mart is closing down more than two dozen stores over the next several months.

#9 J.C. Penney will be permanently shutting down 47 more stores after closing a total of 40 stores in 2015.

#10 Macy’s has decided that it needs to shutter 36 stores and lay off approximately 2,500 employees.

#11 The Gap is in the process of closing 175 stores in North America.

#12 Aeropostale is in the process of closing 84 stores all across America.

#13 Finish Line has announced that 150 stores will be shutting down over the next few years.

These store closings can be particularly cruel for small towns.  Just consider the impact that Wal-Mart has had on the little town of Oriental, North Carolina

The Town’n Country grocery in Oriental, North Carolina, a local fixture for 44 years, closed its doors in October after a Wal-Mart store opened for business. Now, three months later — and less than two years after Wal-Mart arrived — the retail giant is pulling up stakes, leaving the community with no grocery store and no pharmacy.

Though mom-and-pop stores have steadily disappeared across the American landscape over the past three decades as the mega chain methodically expanded, there was at least always a Wal-Mart left behind to replace them. Now the Wal-Marts are disappearing, too.

Of course there are many factors involved in this ongoing retail apocalypse.  Competition from online retailers is becoming more intense, and consumer spending patterns are rapidly changing.

But in the end, the truth is that you can’t get blood out of a rock.  The middle class in America is shrinking, and there just isn’t as much discretionary spending going on as there used to be.

And now that we have entered a new economic downturn, many retailers are finding that there are some local communities that can no longer support their stores.  The following comes from CNBC

Though the shift to online shopping is no doubt playing a role in lighter foot traffic at malls, there’s more to their changing economics than the rise of Amazon. Changing demographics in a town are another reason a shopping center could struggle or fail — for example, if massive layoffs in a particular industry cause people to move away to find employment.

“A lot of people want to try and tie it to the Internet or ‘that’s not cool,’ or teens don’t like it,” Jesse Tron, a spokesman for industry trade group International Council of Shopping Centers, told CNBC last year. “It’s hard to support large-format retail in those suburban areas when people are trying to just pay their mortgage.”

In order to have a thriving middle class, we need good paying middle class jobs.  Unfortunately, our economy has been bleeding those kinds of jobs quite rapidly.  For example, Halliburton just announced that it is eliminating 5,000 more jobs after getting rid of 4,000 workers at the end of last year.

During the Obama years, good paying middle class jobs have been getting replaced by low paying service jobs.  At this point, 51 percent of all American workers make less than $30,000 a year.

And there is no way that you can support a middle class family with children on $30,000 a year.

We have an economy that is in the process of failing.  We can see it in the explosion of subprime auto loans that are going bad, we can see it in the hundreds of retail stores that are shutting down, and we can see it in the tens of thousands of good paying energy jobs that are being lost.

During the Obama years, interest rates have been pushed to the floor, the Federal Reserve has created trillions of dollars out of thin air, and the size of our national debt is getting close to doubling.  Despite all of those desperate measures, our economy continues to crumble.

We stole from the future to try to paper over our failures and it didn’t work.  Now an economic downturn that will ultimately turn out to be even worse than the “Great Recession” of 2008 and 2009 has begun, and our leaders have absolutely no idea how to fix things.

I wish I had better news to report, but I don’t.  Get prepared now, because very rough times are ahead.

Your other choice is Hillary or writing in or not voting at all. Seriously, realizing our choices are what they are and that we are largely voiceless, what is your solution?

          • Guest

The lesser of two evils is still evil.

          • XSANDIEGOCA

            OK. Your solution is?

          • Guest

I don’t think there is any way to avoid the consequences of many years of bad decisions.

          • XSANDIEGOCA

Like someone who stopped exercising years ago and only ate fast food. You are probably right.

          • Guest

Would Trump be better than Hillary? Of course. Can America be “great again”? I don’t know. Years of very bad decisions by our “leaders” have gotten us into the situation we’re in, and we’ll have to face the consequences of those decisions before things can ever get better in this nation.

          • XSANDIEGOCA

All true but Great Journeys begin with the first step. In this case, Trump. Cruz and Rubio are smart but they are not selling.

Here is a man after God’s own heart.

            David’s Beautiful Prayer
            from 1 Chronicles 29:

10 Then David praised the Lord in front of all the people who were gathered together. David said,

“Lord, the God of Israel, our Father,
may you be praised forever and ever!

Greatness, power, glory, victory, and honor belong to you,
because everything in heaven and on earth belongs to you!

The kingdom belongs to you, Lord!

You are the head, the Ruler over everything.

Riches and honor come from you.
            You rule everything.
You have the power and strength in your hand!
And in your hand is the power to make anyone great and powerful!

Now, our God, we thank you,
and we praise your glorious name!

All these things didn’t come from me and my people.
All these things come from you.
We are only giving back to you things that came from you.

We are only strangers traveling through this world
            like our ancestors.
Our time on earth is like a passing shadow, and we cannot stop it.

Lord our God, we gathered all these things to build your Temple.

We build it to honor your name.

But all these things have come from you.

            Everything belongs to you.

My God, I know that you test people,
and that you are happy when people do what is right.

I gladly give you all these things
            with a pure, honest heart.

I see your people gathered here,
and I see that they are happy about giving these things to you.

Lord, you are the God of our ancestors,
            Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Please help your people plan the right things.

Help them be loyal and true to you.
And help my son Solomon be true to you.

Help him always obey your commands, laws, and rules.

            Help Solomon do these things.
And help him build this Temple that I have planned.”

    • Stan Moore

I agree to a point. How much is enough profits. How much could you and your family live on comfortably. How much is enough. Schooling for your children maybe a little hush money housing food medical. How much and when you come up with THAT number multiply that time everyone in the US It won’t come close to what the banks are making .What the Government is spending on ddefense. What the Fda is wasting. HOW MUCH IS ENOUGH. This isn’t aimed at you or me but really how much could you live on

    • rant1200 .

I agree the jobs should have NEVER been shipped overseas, but are you willing to pay a much higher price for crap we buy and don’t need??Keep that in mind, but the jobs should come back.Kind of a catch 22.

  • nevergiveup

“We stole from the future to try to paper over our failures and it didn’t work.” Great quote. Many of us have done that in some way or another (especially when we are young and dumb). This is not just an American problem, but a global problem. Governments go huge on the borrowing and spending when times are good without preparing for the inevitable downturn – and then you get countries like Venezuela paying of debt in gold. They had something like US15bil in Gold reserves last year – according to an article I read they are now on about US1bil. and when that runs out, it is default time.

  • ALWAYSTOMORROW

Michael, you said in your closing statement “Get prepared now, because very rough times are ahead.”

I have lived most of my life not in debt, saving and thinking of the future. Maybe that is why I never seem to notice how bad things really are.

In a way I am glad.

    • Bill G Wilminton NC

Not good to be glad about the misery that is coming….but you have done a good job…..are you right with God that is the most important.

      • ALWAYSTOMORROW

I am not glad about any misery coming, I am glad I am in a position not to notice the bad as much as some do.

        • Philosopher

So are you teaching others or just standing back and laughing at their misery? I can’t stand snotty people that act like know it alls.

          • RTL89

If experience has taught me anything, it’s that teaching others is an excruciatingly painful exercise in futility

          • Ken

I agree. It is mostly a waste of breath and energy. People prefer to get their education from the TeeVee, rather than reading books to expand their awareness. Few see what is coming, and most don’t seem to care. I’m afraid that when they wake up, it will be far to late for them to do anything about it.

          • ALWAYSTOMORROW

The best teachers teach by example.

          • ALWAYSTOMORROW

I cant stand people who think they know me.

  • Barry Goldwater

Bankrate recently published the results of a survey which reveals that 1 in 4 Americans are on the verge of financial ruin. A full 29% have no emergency savings whatsoever. Many of those people have used up substantial portions of available credit and have few options left. This shows why so many retailers are feeling the squeeze.
America’s race to the bottom , stagnant wages, high real unemployment, rising part time employment , surging health care premiums and the credit squeeze is strangling America’s economy.
We can’t build prosperity on crutches swallowing manufactured statistics that tell us everything is wonderful when the evidence on main street says it’s not.

    • Bill G Wilminton NC

      Well said……..

    • Philosopher

The current market is beating savers into the ground. Punishing. I started getting out of debt after 2008. If I can’t pay cash I don’t buy it now. I do have an emergency fund. Based on what I have read I am in the top 10% of the population. That scares the living hell out of me. I am really not that smart or that talented. I don’t have a huge IRA or 401K either. I have been buying silver and paid off my debt and do have a cash reserve fund for emergencies. If that is enough to put me in the top 10% God help us.

      • billtheguy

        WOW! You just described me!

        • Stan Moore

I would like to ask BIG RETAILER…THE SUBJECT IS BIG RETAILER… If the new generation can get what they want at home how can BIG RETAILER S GET customers back to their stores. We’ve become lazy no one wants the hassle of getting in a car going to the store anymore. I can get food delivered, cars delivered I can get meds delivered. It seems that computer s are doing all the work and UPS FEDX AND EVEN USPS IS finally making a come back. Banks are making profits that could erase our nation’s debit. So tell How can the malls of America and BIG RETAILER S get people to come out. Let’s stay on point . I’m a Disabled veteran and The VA is the only game in town for me so …everyone has a story and it sucks but the story is about BIG RETAILER

          • sistersoldier

Retailers will always have a main stay. Until on-line orders become more proficient at handling returns there will always be a need for a box store. Also as a woman I can tell you that most of us like to touch the product before purchasing or to try it on which is not possible with an online order. Bottom line as long as women are women we will have the need for brick and mortar stores that allows us the full shopping experience. They may reduce their overall foot prints by half but they will probably be around for the foreseeable future.

          • SunnyFlaSnotress

I do most of my shopping other than groceries online.
Speak for your own backdated self.

          • sistersoldier

Awww…did you get up on the wrong side of the bed? Yes, I love to shop, I lost 50 lbs over the last 4 months and I am officially a size 10! for the first time in 25 years I can go to the store and shop and love it!. Trying to keep up with an 8 and 10 year old really makes you want to get in shape so you will be there for them. And yes, I am a little antiquated, I am 51 years young and loving every minute of life. How about you Sunny? Are you loving life?

          • SunnyFlaSnotress

            Just saying you are backdated..

          • sistersoldier

            Is that good or bad?

          • SunnyFlaSnotress

In other words, you speak as if you speak for all women.. but the truth is you’re a weird lil Jesusfreak

          • sistersoldier

Ok, but I thought I said “most” women not to be inclusive of all. But I’m pleased as punch that you called me a Jesus Freak! Now that is a good thing I only hope that one day I can call you the same. I love you Sunny!

          • Kay W

It’s ok, Sistersoldier, I’m 29 and I only buy clothes in the store where I can try them on (or if they have free store returns and free shipping and I know the brand). You aren’t outdated! I want to know that it fits and I have way more fun going through the store than staring at a boring screen and having to painstakingly click through pages and pictures. I just want to walk in, glance through absolutely everything at once, try on something that catches my eye, and get out of there!

          • SunnyFlaSnotress

“I don’t do yoga because, like you, I don’t want to open myself up to any evil spirits” Kay W………..LOL

          • sistersoldier

A woman after my own heart! Thank you Kay.

      • Mark

Me too. I just lost my job due to layoffs at 3M along with 1500 other poor souls. I have a Bachelors & MBA and cannot find work. Have applied to over 70 jobs. I received a severance package that includes an employment agency Lee Hecht Harrison to help us find work. You should see the amount of people that attend the workshops and counseling sessions. My employment counselor said she sees over 80 people alone. Wow.
My situation is not bad yet because I have no debt. All my cars are paid off, not credit card bills, no loans, and I have 3 IRAs and annuities set up with sufficient funds. I have always had a large amount of cash for emergencies. I do have a property that I could not sell (Bad real estate economy) so I kept it as a property investment and rent it out. I still have to pay the taxes and insurance.
I am worried that if I do not have a job in the next year and half I will run out of cash. I guess its McDonalds. Maybe I can get free food to subsidize my loss in income LOL. However, I have looked into government jobs and teaching. These may be the only jobs left with decent benefits. I have already looked into PHD programs and teaching part time at local community colleges.
I am scared to death on the future. Very disturbing. God bless all.

        • Matibob

Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Stay strong!!

          • Mark

As a government employee I can definitely say the benefits are decent. And they remain the largest employer when you consider all of the subsidiary agencies under its broad umbrella. But I pray that God will direct you to the job that best suits you and that you will be greater in your ladder end than your beginning.

“America’s race to the bottom” is exactly what is being played out in the real world apart from the illusion that DC is peddling. They have what is called a “think tank” and this particular group has been deciding the direction of the common school of thought and by common I mean those who suffer from the herd mentality and are easily persuaded. The think tanks job is to primarily make the people feel good about their dispositions or accept their station in life as “born this way” and helpless. You are right Mr. Goldwater we cannot build prosperity on crutches and in my humble opinion we cannot have prosperity without the prosperity giver for it is He who gives man the power to get wealth. Because the foundation is fundamentally flawed that America’s wealth is built upon eventually this house of cards must fold. Make way for the New World Order whose architect is the serpent of old.

      • Bill G Wilminton NC

        Awesome post……thanks

  • Happy Ending

It has never been that great ever. Life has always sucked for humans for the most part.

The danger now is all the debt. Nothing has even happened yet. But when this pyramid scheme fails, if it does I guess, things will obviously get very bad.

My aunt lives in Italy and works for a company that does business in Greece and she tells me that life is now hell on earth for the Greeks. Won’t hear any of that news here. What if that happens? Why not, it happened there, how are we different?

Anyway, things do not feel right. People I know are getting laid off and work is very hard to find. Go to the mall and it is empty. Home prices are very high, and interest rates very low. Something is going on.

    • RTL89

That’s the American mindset; it’s all bout entitlements. For some reason they think that they were born with a silver spoon in their mouths and are owed everything. As a result, Greece and anything else NON-American is a NON-issue to them. You see it everywhere. I’m Canadian, but when I type something into google, the articles that always come up have to do with referencing Americans. If an asteroid might pass close near the earth, that could be trouble for Americans!!! ‘Cause, you know, they’re the only human beings on the planet who are undeserving of experiencing hardships apparently. Well they (and we) are about to get a rude awakening.

      • fwalker000

In USA the educated know how to define the parameters when using a search engine. Perhaps if you’re looking for information on Canadian issues you may want to indicate that somehow to the search engine by typing the word Canada or Canadian along with the other “key words”…..example: “clueless Canadian”.

The Government must “create” and issue “money”. Only. Why the hell a few private families can print our paper notes is shocking and amazing. I am glad more and more people are learning about this. I’ve known it since I was a teenager.

This is why “they” are speeding up the agenda and need to trigger an awful collapse so they can create the dictatorship. They, too, are panicking.,

        • laura m.

I’ve also known about this since the 70’s which is why we chose to remain childless and both keep working. Now retired and living off 401k and investments. This country has a zero future, not a time to raise a family. Women need to keep working full time and not sit at home. Can’t figure out why patriot websites haven’t shut down since there are no results from them or talk shows to wake up the masses or have a solution, which none have in sixty some years when patriot groups formed protesting the UN involvement..

          • Henry

the federal reserve made you go childless? Now THAT is a new one 😛

          • william mony

no, they are saying that America is finished and didn’t want to bring children into soon to be riots and mayham, when the welfare queens don’t get their drink and drugs on..45% pay no income tax…can a country survive that one for one work and pay for another ??

          • catfish

Yes William, its seems Henry is not fully aware of how bad things are. Denial aint no river in Egypt.

          • laura m.

My parents (dec) were very knowledgeable about the globalists agenda since the fifties. It’s really not rocket science to be child free and women staying in the work force. We took early retirement. Women have choices and most men don’t want to be fathers anyway. Kids could wind up being cannon fodder in no win wars, etc. too.

          • And an effective population control for lesser people.

          • catfish

No – it is the lesser welfare people that are breeding like flies at the cost of the best – it’s like throwing the best seed corn to be cherished and nurtured for future generations, to the pigs.

Wake up Henry In Germany where I live the first letter you get 3 days after birth is a tax number. The guvtards force your child into state indoctrination and this as a rule begins between 7:00 and 8.00. The kid needs to carry an ID card with a chip on it. The food he/she has to eat although not as bad as US junk pumped up with growth hormones, antibiotics and God knows what, is getting worse (even before TTIP) In the unlikely event the kid is sucessful he will be forced to hand over most of his heard earned money to support the welfare class, club fed guvment orkers and banker/politico/attorney class, all classes increasing in number. The guvtards regulate every aspect of his life. He will spend his whole working life being taxed into poverty – soon to come a cashless society. I got better things to do than have a stressful life just to provide the state farm with some livestock to be milked and then slaughtered. All I’ll be leaving the animal farm is my rotting corpse… hahahaha

          • RedSky

Most people just do not get that we live on a planet with finite resources. Sure it is fun to have a bunch of kids but if you can’t support’em without going into debt, it kinda takes the fun out of it. Some live a literal nightmare trying to live the “American Dream” like it is their cross to bear.

Reading these posts tells me that there aren’t a lot of people who visit this blog who put their trust in God. Sure be as Joseph and be prepared for what’s coming but also put your trust in God that He will provide.

Genesis 1:28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

1Cor 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

          • Auldenemy

Europe is filling up with endless genuine refugees from Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya, but it is estimated that 40% are economic migrants (from Pakistan and Africa). These people are mainly Muslim of course and in their culture/religion having as many children as possible appears to be the norm. It is estimated that by 2020 there will be 10 million Muslim refugees/economic migrants in Europe (on top of the millions who have been coming in smaller numbers per year, for decades now). These people will eventually out breed the indigenous populations of Europe (they already are in the UK’s largest cities, including its capital, London). This is all happening against a back drop of more and more public cut backs due to the UK and the rest of Europe buckling under its terrible and un payable debt burdens. Perhaps if America had interfered less in the Middle East, not spent trillions of $s on wars that resulted not in liberation but ISIS, then its own un payable national debt would not be blamed on, ‘welfare queens’. The biggest welfare queens in every Western nation are the likes of Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, HSBC, Deutsche Bank etc, who are systematically looting the entire Western world.

          • Mark

I will agree with you on most of your analysis but the fact remains that The Great Society Programs initiated in 1965 by LBJ started the decline of our society and cities. It created a welfare state of incompetence and dependence on the government dole. This created ghettos, drugs, crime, illegitimate children and generations of failure. All this has accumulated with massive amounts of tax revenue wasted. This is some of the problem too. Also public education in these areas are total failures. We as a nation have grave mistakes since the early 1900s and will pay dearly. As a result I believe this is going to contribute the the collapse.

Sadly, the poor and uneducated will be populating the planet as that is all they have to offer. They breed em and we pay for it.

          • Facts

Nope. None of the people you mentioned are genuine refugees AND you are massively understating the numbers. In France in 2015, the majority of children entering school were muslims. In Belgium, Mahomet (& derivatives) has been the most common name for newborns since 2010. In Germany there were already 20 Million immigrants (according to census of 2014), another 1.2 Million arrived in 2015. Parts of Britain (like Birmingham) and Sweden (Malmo) have already been taken over by Muslims.
Some of the driving factors are the CIA (who according to Austrian military intelligence organized the refugee stream 2015), NGOs funded by George Soros et al. and the Mossad (Israeli Secret Intelligence Service = ISIS).

And they were egged on by their parents and the Elders. Now when they complain that someone should do something – that they haven’t been “treated right” I just sit back and laugh.

The Federal Reserve does not “give” money to anyone including member banks and operates essentially as a not-for-profit operation and turns over more than 95% of its profits each year (as it has always done) to the US Treasury for the benefit of its taxpayers and those profits now amount to more than $100 billion per year.

Also during the Obama years greedy corporations borrowed money to buy back their stocks to enhace shareholder profit rather than investing in the future of the business. Now those corporations have huge debts and no income. Because of cheap money businesses merged themselves into too big to fail conglomerates. Investors like Warren Buffet and others may be the envy of the business class, but they have only sown the seeds of misery for the working class. Buffet never built and ran a business he only has used money to acquire what others built.

The mom and pop meme is also outdated. Why many small mom and pop businesses failed is because they failed to offer the customer service, were dirty stores with outdated merchandise. I know there are some niche store that are the exception. Also mom and pop stores failed to have business plans and invest in the future. During the past get rich period we also destroyed community banks that would make the loans needed by many of these small businesses. Also labor unions took a toll on small businesses. We had a small local grocery chain that was put out of business because they could not afford unionization.

Amazon and ebay may be the future of retail shopping. These businesses have a small number of workers and rely on computers to run the business.

    • fwalker000

      Were you homeschooled?

      • Ken

Homeschooling may be the best education available if the parents know how to do it correctly.

The state education system is broken, with little prospect of it getting fixed. The clarion call for more money to fix education is really a call for more money for more of the same. John Taylor Gatto has been writing about this. I recently finished his first book, Dumbing Us Down. I recommend it for anyone who wants an understanding of why our state sponsored “school” system is failing our students.

    • fwalker000

Interest rates are at 5000 year lows!!!

      • J.C

Sure, but low interest rates can be good and bad right?

        • fwalker000

You’re correct. I was being sarcastic. I don’t see low rates as a positive- especially given the traditional correlation between the 10 yr equivalent to GDP. At this point, IMHO sp500 has 1-2% max upside and 20-40% downside. Second quarter likely resumes the downtrend to 1350 range on sp500 and the doomsday howlers can spin the tale how they were just a few years early- or few decades early for many that frequent this board.

Oriental, is a good example. There are others. Something as simple as a grocery store. People may have to drive 40 to 50 miles to find one, in some places in the south. Only the beginning. Some of the stores that still exist. Are run by elderly owners, making very little profit. Once they are gone, so is the store. Just not enough profit to interest anyone else, to keep it going. The economy was already bad in much of the south. But Obamacare finished it off. People who had a little left over money for extras. Now struggle to make ends meet. It was truly the last straw for many households, I know of.

It’s not just changes in where people spend – online versus brick and mortar – it’s just necessity. My whole focus now is paying off debt and only buying what I need, period. Yeah maybe I’ll spend $3 on a bag of chocolate once a month or $5 on a mocha once a month, but I have cut my spending down to the bone. I am paying off debt and doing work around my house that doesn’t require me to spend a whole lot of money. The people I see spending lots of money on junk are the ones on food stamps, strangely enough.

Jobs are hard to find in my area as well. Most of the new jobs are retail or restaurants/fast food and even the ones that are a little better such as bank tellers or medical reception start out with very low pay. I have been applying to the bank teller/reception jobs off and on for five years with no luck. I work at Walmart. It’s better than nothing.

The future needs to be in trades like construction and infrastructure, road maintenance and the like. A friend of mine has a roofing business and he also does all different kinds of similar manual labor and makes very good money.

Things are going to get rough for people who have no clue what is going on.

    • Ken

Learning a trade in robotics or automation is where the future lies. All corporations seek to cut labor costs by either shipping jobs over seas, or simply by eliminating labor altogether.

Students today are piling into debt and getting degrees with little prospect of finding a job that pays well enough to service their student loan debt.

A lot of the younger people ages 18-25 are not falling for the “I need to keep up with the jones”. My son has a friend that is married to a girl and both have the “service industry” jobs. Most of the time they both get about 32-36 hours per week. (this would be full time to Barack Obummer) They pay modest rent for a 1 room apartment and have a used car note, and a “junker” as he likes to call it. They buy their clothes at Goodwill and second time around stores, and eat modestly. They hardly eat out and if they do it’s pizza delivered. These are the 51% Michael is talking about, only their combined income doesn’t exceed $30K. These are the kind of people that will be paying for the older generation’s social security. We need middle class manufacturing jobs to survive in the future.

    • retired22

I read some place a few years a few years ago that with all expenses of retirement living (including medical) that it only takes 3.5 years to burn up all that a person paid into retirement.

So quit calling someone an f-ing ID10T! just because you don’t like what they say.

Why weren’t you smart enough to see what was happening since at least the 1970’s and make your own retirement plans?

I’m 56 and I made plans because I paid attention to my environment and knew that government was not to be trusted. I don’t have debt at all, have PM’s and cash saved up, don’t trust government or banks and live below my means, do you? Or are you f-ing living beyond your means.

Here is some more news about what is happening (that my guess you are not too aware of) having money in a bank is downright dangerous, there has been ample proof (Cyprus, Grease just to mention a few) that the money in a bank is not really yours. Keep it there at your own risk, that way you can post here in the future when it’s gone and call people f-ing ID10T! when they tell you, you should have taken more control of your future when the trends were clearly there for an awake person to see. You can feel all superior if you want, but your money will still be gone, partially gone or devalued. Just as you are arrogant and feeling superior right now when your retirement is in jeopardy, you will feel just as much so then.

What your post really tells me is you are not that smart, afraid and not able to cope with a changing world.

And if I were 25-years old working full time I would not want to have a good portion of my money taken by you (as it won’t be there for my family) to pay for you to live.

Blame the government all you want (nothing more then passing the blame to the government and not yourself) but YOU should have had enough brains to see to your families future yourself. But it’s clear you didn’t. Not that government isn’t at fault, but knowing how governments do things we need to plan for the eventual knife in the back. We can’t change government, but we can position our self to not need them to live as it seems you have.

            >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

And as far as Wal-Mart closing in places where there is no other stores like Oriental, North Carolina. Nature hates a vacuum, another store will open up if someone thinks the market will support it.

I’m a libertarian and don’t like government at all but it’s not Wally World’s fault the economy is going down hill. They just like all of us are trying to survive and closing an unprofitable store is a survival action. By closing unprofitable stores it assures the other stores and the company itself has a better chance of surviving. And considering how many people they employ all across the country it’s good to keep all the people in the profitable stores working rather then led unprofitable stores take the company down. A small Mom & Pop store will likely open up in Wally’s place and do OK as the small store can survive on smaller margins then Wally needs with all it’s overhead.

It’s not that I like the idea of stores closing, it’s more that I understand that in today’s world the para-dime has changed. Since the 1980’s we have been embracing and living in a consumerism debt-based bubble that like every bubble or balloon that is blown up too much must burst. We are seeing that burst going on now.

I myself are not too worried about the balloon burst as I have planed for my own retirement, saved up years of food, learned lots of skills and have stocked supporting tools and parts for those skills, have very little money in the bank, have a good amount of silver, have no debt at all. and live well below my income level.

The people either take the country back or not. Its that simple.

        • Mark

I totally agree. We do need to take our country back.

      • Ken

We are running out of ways to improve the economy. We continue to off shore good jobs and exchange them for poor paying service jobs. The next wave of technology will seek to eliminate labor altogether. We are all going to have to learn to live with a lower standard of living. Survival will mean growing your own food and saving rain water. Learning to barter with your neighbors will be another important skill.

Which would be the match for the civil unrest propane tank. TPTB have been preparing for months for something BIG!. Still there are those of us who exhibit an hold a certain inertia about life that things will ultimately get better or at the worst remain the same. The masses have been conditioned to accept their rendition of quasi-normal. I think they have a surprise that no one is prepared for as anyone who lives on Pennsylvania Avenue must be preapproved by the more important shadow government. We should not look to Capitol Hill for our help as they have proved we are not their primary concern other than our tax slave dollars but rather we should look to THE hills from where our strength comes and that is only from the Lord. For the day a man dies his very thoughts perish with him whether he is Teddy Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln or JFK and at that their words are imperfect and unfruitful. If their words and their deeds were so powerful why are we worse off today than ever before? The only difference is the think tanks told us we are doing better and we believe the lie. Only the words of God and those ordained by God in the Bible to speak for Him will last forever and He is the only one qualified to deliver us.

        • Scott Comin

I love how you start your posts so cool!!!With or without trump we have greed greed and more greed. Money is crack cocaine and if it is not redistributed millions die. Look/ at our world. I am sure Bill Gates really earned that billion right? AND THE PERSON WHO CURES CANCER WILL EARN $60,000 a year. They already have a cure, but corporations need to make money right? Do you ever take anything serious? I mean you can be funny but please once in a while have a deep serious thought on the subject matter. Sounds to me you must be in your 20s and if that is true you are excused from class. Oh please get rid of the vamp photo. Every time I look at it I want to drive a stake through it lol. Now vote for Trump. Go Trump.

If Trump gets elected he can kill the Internationalist statists by bringing back tariffs & import duties!
Forget all of the narrative propaganda about how wonderful ‘International trade’ is for America!

The people who are the main beneficiaries of International trade are the bankers & financiers who wheel & deal around the world, they are modern day financial Imperialists, exploiting where ever they get the opportunity!

The IMF is notorious for this.

Nations like the USA are victims of these financiers who are intent on destroying the nation states & turning them into provinces of the new world order they intend to rule.
Europe is going down the drain along with the failing global economy.
The global economy is based on consumerism & with Europe going down the USA will be only large consumer market left standing.

The international bankers & financiers will need to sell to America, tariffs or no tariffs, because they have no where else to go with their products.
Turning their international trade advantages to disadvantages will cause them to go back to being nationalist, they will have no choice if they want their financial assets to be viable & profitable!

        Ayn Rand… LOL

      • Rob W

        Ayn Rand… LOL

Rand’s personal life was no testament to social concern. As a teenager in Russia, she “watched her family nearly starve while she treated herself to the theater.” In America she reaped the benefits of Social Security and Medicare while attacking government on the pages of her novels. Sex mingled with violence in her work, and she based one of her early protagonists on the serial killer William Hickman.

        • Bob Smith

Ah Bob W., you are getting into the spiritual now.

When creative people are exploited and made into slaves, they tend to go on strike and let the exploiters figure it out with their stupidity.

          • sistersoldier

I can see how that is a description of the narrative of what happened in the story but unless Obama is being identified as a Shrugged Puppet I fail to see the connection.

          • Bob Smith

Think of Obama as the cracker slave master. The free people of America may take their creativity and prosperity elsewhere, go on strike, or change leaders.

Though many may disagree with me it is my conviction that Barack had the presidency thrust upon him and was not actively seeking an office. A lot of mystery surrounds this man that is for sure. Such as how everyone close to him (near relatives) are dead most of whom died at the unmerciful hands of cancer. I watched him during his first campaign as he rose from obscurity and every question they would ask him off teleprompter would be answered vaguely. I did not vote for him because he never directly promised much of anything other than what his handlers programmed him to say to complete their agenda. It was a two-fold strategy complete the enslavement of all men, execute agenda 21 and give rebirth to racial prejudice – which is just stupid by its on merit. Please lay blame where it is due and if you don’t know then say so, but don’t accuse as some would be amazed to know who is really behind the oval office shenanigans.

          • Scott Comin

            Yes yes yes

GM Sunny, Yes, I said many may disagree but I think that he was simply the perfect Manchurian Candidate. He was openly abusing drugs, associated with same sex relationships and he was actively involved with the radical and controversial teachings of Jeremiah Wright. This man was the perfect “mule” open to corruption as he was totally bankrupt morally. This was so the PTB could complete the agenda to enslave all of mankind. It was never about a “black man” which he is only half. Why is it when they attack this man they accuse the black half and never the white? We have equal share in this political train wreck! (But I digress) So, yes, he did accept the role but only because he was the right MK ultra for the job and had no other choice.

          • Scott Comin

So Obama is in charge of the banks, corporations and neo-cons? NOT!!!! Look a little bit deeper! Just a little.

Atlas Shrugged has one major thing wrong. In it government attacked prosperous companies and destroyed their ability to make a profit so they just stopped producing. In Atlas Shrugged government and companies were pitted against each other.

Rand did not see that in the future that large companies and government would in fact form a partnership (companies invaded government and were able to craft laws in their favor) to benifit both by plundering all of us normal working serfs.

          • Gay Veteran

“…Rand did not see that in the future that large companies and government would in fact form a partnership….”

in other words FASCISM (the merger of state and corporate powers)

          • sistersoldier

I think that Rand knew more than we can sum up in a comment. She was known as the girlfriend of Phillip Rothchild, this would put her in the know of a privileged few. It has been reported that Atlas Shrugged was not so much a novel but rather it is a code book. Within the book is a step by step plan to take over the whole world by taking over the United States. Supposedly the powers that be will gain control of the world by bankrupting their own businesses and ultimately to bankrupt the world by making money worth nothing globally. Out of desperation. Dollar signs are prevalent throughout the book and not for novel fluff but by design. In the end it is this symbol of the dollar sign that leads back to recovery. All in a well planned come back by the PTB as they solve the financial crisis they created and take control of the entire human race.”

“And he causes all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free men and the slaves, to be given a mark on their right hand or on their forehead, and he provides that no one will be able to buy or to sell, except the one who has the mark, either the name of the beast or the number of his
            name.…” Revelation 13:16

      • Scott Comin

You have never seen free enterprise and never will! All you see is the modern slave enterprise. Enterprise is never free it requires slaves.

      • catfish

Yeah I’m going Galt by not having any kids. Who needs a stressful life just to provide the state farm with fresh livestock to be milked, and then slaughtered. And when Atlas has gone, and there is no more produce – that’s when the cannibalism really gets started. All I’ll leave the farm is my rotting corpse

    • laura m.

We struggled in the 70’s and bought used stuff, but so did others. Seldom ate out. Not a good idea to bring kids into the world, too damn expensive and women don’t need to be sitting at home either, but in the work force.

      • Pfft

Oh great, like that’s the solution, send women to work and don’t let them stay at home and be mothers to the next generation. (Which last time I checked doesn’t involve much “sitting around.”) Let’s just destroy our humanity and become worker-slaves! Yep, that’s a wonderful idea…

        • laura m.

Women need to work, too many divorces now days, cost of living, kids ain’t cheap to raise, and home schooling is only for men with high incomes so moms can stay home. I hate gov. schools, another good reason to not have kids.

        • Scott Comin

Yes women have it so hard. Poor women! POOR WOMEN! The media is full of how tough it is for women! POOR WOMEN.

    • william mony

these people, in inner cities, will die when the riots start
race wars will be the norm. if they are white they will be blamed although they likely are poorer than the blacks that will attack them. this is what the elite want so order can come out of chaos..get it?
one world government and the promise of prosperity again
woe woe woe to the inhabitants of the earth

      • SunnyFlaSnotress

I just moved to the city, I didn’t move to inner city, though I didn’t thumb my nose at it. Race wars will happen if authorities provoke them. I’m not particularly worried about it and don’t ever expect them to be the norm.
Having public transportation available is a great thing.. even if I drive. My favorite services are within walking distance to me now.

  • XSANDIEGOCA

If Obama plans it just right, he will be out of Dodge 15 minutes before the Collapse. You have to wonder if passing this all off to Trump is part of the conspiracy? Regardless, whoever occupies the Oval Office will have their hands full!!

    • REALIST

      This is our last election.

      • Bill G Wilminton NC

YUP…..I BELIEVE SO…..maybe Trump can turn a few things around but the odds are the collapse will come on HIS watch although he has nothing to do with the collapse…….it is by design which took over 100 years from 1913 the date of the passing of The Federal Reserve Act……..The collapse is about takeover by New World Order …Globalism…. and the end of our Constitutional Republic all by design.

      • XSANDIEGOCA

        Can’t argue that one.

  • XSANDIEGOCA

Trump is our last chance. It is all very well to talk of Cruz or Rubio but unless they make substantial headway on Tuesday, they are out of the game. The PTBs could always stage a coup at the convention and “broker” someone in but how that will play to the Base can only be imagined. I will frankly admit Trump is not the best candidate to ever put his foot forward but he is what we have. Hillary possesses all the enthusiasm and charisma of a dead Mackerel and is creature of Goldman Sachs. This I know, the Levee is gonna break. Michael is spot on. I do not know when the tipping point is but I am willing to bet it will be when our debt hits 25 trillions. After that, it’s Jokers Wild.

    • REALIST

Actually, Trump is like John the Baptist. He is a precursor to what is coming. Trump means well, is angry and is appealing to his Demographic base, but there are enough “low information” voters who will try to vote for the vapid promises of the left. They aren’t ready yet.

I am afraid that if we don’t have Trump, the next choices will be like Germany, 1932. A more slick, smart and wise candidate will arise. He will promise the BS from Bernie and get the emotional following of Trump.

His name will be like Arnold Hissler, or something. So much nicer than Trump, younger than Bernie, good looking and cosmo like Rubio, polite like Carson and well polished and slick like Bill Clinton.

Then 2 years into office we will have the “Night of the Long Knives” and “Krystal Nacht”. Unless we stop the madness NOW, that is our future.

      • XSANDIEGOCA

You and I think alike. I have read a number of articles/editorials comparing our current situation to prewar Germany. Very frightening. What people do not realize is that Hitler, in his early days, delivered to a very depression battered public. The Beer Halls filled up. Pay Envelopes were Fat. They loved him. What came after was another story but in the Dawn of the Reich, he was revered!

        • REALIST

The Chancellor of Germany got more votes from the public than Bill Clinton.

You can only push a people so far. Then, they won’t give a damn as long as they can get even. The Trump situation is showing that “the Volk” are sick and tired and are just about willing to do anything to kick the butts of those in power now.

Just wait 4 more years. There is a reason gun and ammo sales are through the roof and EVERYBODY I know is “prepping”. Even my wife asked me for a gun and training.

This feels like Germany, January 31, 1933

          • XSANDIEGOCA

Stay in touch, Realist. The next year or so offers rich commentary indeed!

      Great post……….Thanks

      • XSANDIEGOCA

Thanks Bill. Let’s see what happens Tuesday.

  • Macssurvivalkits

As long as people keep spending what they have at places that get products from overseas sweatshops, no manufacturing jobs are going to be created to build up a decent middle class. Its a vicious cycle, but as people have less money they will gravitate towards those places with the cheapest products and continue the cycle. I am by no means a financial expert, but it seems like we need to put the screws to the companies that continue to outsource…
    just my 2 cents.

    • Purple Wings

People shop sales a lot – at my store we have inventory next month so there are a lot of things discounted to $5, $3, $1. We have a ton of extra inventory because fall/winter sales were down. As for myself, I have really locked myself into shopping Made in USA whenever possible – I picked up four pairs of wool socks earlier this month at Target which were discounted to $5 each from $8, made in USA. There does need to be some kind of reigning in of outsourcing but I just don’t see it happening.

    • REALIST

You are willing to pay MORE for everything you buy?

      • Macssurvivalkits

Not everything, some things you have no choice because they are no longer made in America at all. However, in most cases, cheap China made products like those from Wally World end up breaking after one or two uses anyway. I just really do not like big box stores and the way they take over a town, drive everything out of business and then rake it in hand over fist…

  • mister_roboto

The unfolding economic disaster you describe is just as much a phenomenon of the Bush Jr. years as it is the Obama years. To claim otherwise is to be just as much a Kool-Aid drinker as the Democratic Party boosters who are desperately trying to make people believe that the “Affordable Care Act” is a benefit to working people despite mounting evidence to the contrary.

    • Joltin Joe

If people can’t see R and D are on the same team then they are part of the problem.

      • Rob W

Yes indeed. I’ve been listening to one party promise improvement upon the other for 50 years. I, for one, have had all the improvement I can stand.

        • sistersoldier

Here, here Rob W, now that is a common sense approach to modern politics: When will we learn? Every time we get all excited about a new candidate not even a year in the new presidency and we want them tarred and feathered. No mortal man has the answers to all of our ills today. And as the saying goes, “it is bound to get worse before it gets better.” This locomotive is well off the cliff and any new president is just the conductor.

          • Rob W

All I can say is thank Dog for peak oil. The Empire’s days are waning.

          • REALIST

Uh, actually, the latest Oil Data shows there is more proven oil reserves in the ground than ever before in history.

          • Rob W

Sure, ’cause the globe holds an infinite volume.

The truth is, there are two (or more) schools of thought. Yours seems as silly to me as mine must to you. You pays your money and you picks your poison.

            Thank Dog for peak oil.

          • Scott Comin

Yes I would think the oil would be almost gone as well.

          • REALIST

            Based on what?

          • Rob W

Actually, there’s a lot left. There’s a lot of science involved in how much oil you can get out of a given well. Pump rates are one effector, and pumping at too great a rate can prematurely deplete a well. It can become very hard (that translates directly to costly) to extract. If a well still has millions of barrels of oil, but it costs more to extract a barrel than you can sell it for, it’s effectively a dry well.

          • REALIST

New tech allows new searching for oil fields. Off the coast of Brazil they are finding huge oil deposit where the ocean is a mile deep and the deposits are 5 miles under the floor.

(my real question is how did this oil get down there? Where in time did Carboniferous forests form, die, and end up, somehow 5 miles UNDER the land and then the land is UNDER the Ocean. Something does not add up.

Also, why is the deepest oil the lightest and cleanest oil. As the fields get closer to the surface they are more dirty and denser?

            VOTE TRUMP………….

          • sistersoldier

GM and peace be with you Bill as I have much respect for your thoughts and views. I hear you, I do, but can you honestly say that Trump does not have his own agenda? Or that a man could amass the amount of wealth that he has and maintained not getting his own hands dirty? How do we know that it is nothing more than an “appearance” and a crafty deception to make us think that he is not in bed with the Elite and part of their “lying signs and wonders”?

I heard someone compare Trump to Ronald Reagan on a news program over the weekend and how he is the likely President Elect after the Super Tuesday debate because he and Reagan both have superstar status and how they share physical leadership characteristics such as men of stature rather than men of statutes. (Such as King Saul when Israel rejected Samuel as Judge and God as King.) I just find it incredible that Americans are actually considering Donald Trump as a serious contender for the White House.

          • Bill G Wilminton NC

You always have deep thoughts and you points and concerns are legitimate….very.

I have come up with only one venue that works and it goes something like this………..we know that any of the other R candidates are totally sold out politicians so if we move off trump we might as well have Hillary and get on with New World Order and the end of the USA as we know it. The establishment R leaders do not want trump because he threatens their corrupt ways and their crony capitalism and we know that the these leaders are doing everything to “dump trump” .

I told a good friend who detests trump and is always chirping about trump said this trump is rude, trump is egotistical, trump does not act presidential etc etc. Well here is what I said off the cuff….” look I dont care anymore about trump antics and I dont even care if trump shows up with a dancing elephant act he has the personality to just say what has to be said and does not worry about politically correct that is the opposite of these politicians with their 200 dollar haircuts and 2500 dollar suits they are buffed and quaffed visually and verbally they all speak the same buffed talk and smile smile smile and we the USA goes deeper and deeper in DEBT everyday and quaffed and buffed wheter D or R it makes no difference we just go deeper in debt, we are at war within our own country and the war is over our CONSTITUTION and trump constantly supports the constitution and one small small part is the wall and the 11 million illegals going back to mexico the buffed and quaffed want open borders and millions of immigrants DO YOU for this war we need HUTZPAH and a general like trump who just oozes hutzpah is what we need as we are running out of time we need a kick butt general who supports the constitution…. something like that is what came out sorry for rambling.

            Shalom

          • sistersoldier

I love a good gentle sparring as long as we can agree to disagree with respect. I am on your side when it comes to the faith. I understand what you are saying and where you are coming from but I think that we may all be suffering from election fatigue and just want someone who is actually Presidential and can deal with the problems of our day. At the same time we know that as believers in Christ that no mortal man has the answers to all of our problems. But that is just it, we need a PRESIDENT and not an APPRENTICE. However, Trump is not stupid. He has been afforded plenty of opportunities to study “people” at home and abroad. In my humble opinion he may have explored the people before he exploits the people. Yes, he is off of the beaten path and may say things that he knows America wants to hear but will he deliver? Unfortunately if he becomes president it will only suffice for him to finish our fate with China I’m afraid. As we never know what campaign promises are made away from the prying public eye and likewise the press. Trump boasts about his profitable Asian connections all too often and he is running for the highest office in the land at a time when China is buying up a good portion of America and its historical infrastructure and holds a huge debt. Will Trump deliver the IOU’s we are indebted to China for? (We must entertain the good with the bad if we are going to back what could be the most damning presidency in history for the American people.) While at the same time embedding their troops on American soil to protect those very investments. I’m sorry Bill but there are just too many “wrong” reasons for him to be leader of this nation but mostly because it is advantageous for him – not us.

The most damning presidencies ever in history have been the last four obama, bush, clinton, and bush sr these presidents have negotiated trade agreements gatt, cafta and nafta all of which killed our manufacturing. The D and R Establishment is biting at the bit to push thru TPP trade agreement which has buried in this 5000 page document the giving up of our USA sovereinty to the UN. This is absolute coupe de grace for this country.

This is what any of the D and R will ABSOLUTELY give us TPP and New World Order, Trump is the only one brassy enough to turn it around. Isn’t the endorsement of Senator Jeff Sessions the darling of R conservativism enough for you and the fact that he has been coaching trump for months. What about the people that are coming out in droves never seen before in american politics to vote for Trump

Lastly 60 million people did not vote in the last election and many of these are coming out of the woodwork to vote for trump…keep a eye on tues nite results the support for trump will be eye opening.

          • sistersoldier

Oh my good man you have passion indeed but a short memory. I remember when the people (not me) came out for Obama too by the millions! And some would even faint (crisis actors) at the sight of him. Today we want his head on a silver platter. As for Trump, “Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for their fathers used to treat the false prophets in the same way.”

          • Bill G Wilminton NC

I was one of the 60 million that did not vote !……but these unvoting voters are coming out of the walls. I was at a repub meeting 2 weeks ago ( my wife is an aide ) and the chairperson said in his opening talk that in all the years of repubs in this county we have never seen what we are seeing WHICH IS people are registering to vote that have not voted in 35 -40 years and 9 out of 10 say I’m here for one reason to register so I can vote for trump…. and say I have had enough I am not putting up with this any longer ha lol like POPEYE WHEN HE SAYS ” I can’t stands it no more ” Just in this one county there was 2000 newly registered voters and that was 2 weeks ago. He also said that this new voter registration is happening through out the entire state of NC and is unbelievable. And the number on the voter rolls is burgeoning… how cool is that.

Anyway I can tell that is not going to put your fears to bed lol

          • sistersoldier

Nope! Just raises more questions and makes me think of ACORN the group that raised Obama’s votes to record levels even if it meant fudging a few numbers and registering dead people!

          • Bill G Wilminton NC

There is no organization like ACORN these are just ordinary people and not DEAD ONES ha ha they walk in and register and have no affiliation but DISGUST. And the 60 million did not vote in the election between Obama and Romney who are two wings SAME BIRD. The bird that is flying right into a wall at 100 mph. splat

          • Bill G Wilminton NC

Sistersoldier the problem is the R and D “ESTABLISHMENT” and their crony capitalism. If any person of the establishment D or R replaces obama all remains the same and the slide into oblivion continues JUST FASTER.

New World Order as the Constitution continues to get shredded…..

Take a coin out of your pocket. One side has an R, the other side, a D.

There is only one solution and you know what’s coming.

      • sistersoldier

Could you be more specific your comments are either lacking the focal point or just a little grey. A little more clarity please.

        • REALIST

sister-soul-jay. Good trick. You know what I am saying, but we, here in America, are not allowed to discuss certain things or BOTH of us will hear from Men in Black Suits. Yes, you know it.

The solution should be 50 free and independent States that have a very limited Federal Government. These 50 States can appeal to different people. Some like abortions, some don’t. Some like group sex and nude beaches, some don’t. SOme like guns and some don’t. Some like gay marriages and some don’t. This FREEDOM will allow each of us to live in the environment we prefer without the resentment and hatred of each other. Muslim only State? Go for it. Jewish Homeland State? Go for it. Black Community State? Go for it. White State…uh…no. that be raycyss.

Do you want me to force my way of life on you? I didn’t think so, then don’t force YOUR way of life on me. If we don’t agree to that, then the final solution will be war…..as it always seems to be for stupid people.

          • Rob W

Clausewitz nailed it when he said that war is an extension of politics by other means. The reverse is just as true, we know that politics is the “civil” way man wages war upon man.

And lets not forget Obamacare health insurance. You know….the insurance you are forced to purchase that you didn’t have to a few years ago. Now it’s a fixed household expense, just like your outrageously priced auto insurance. And, the icing on the cake is…..if you don’t purchase it…..the IRS gets around two grand from you in penalties at tax time. (depending on family size) :-) No wonder there is no money to go shopping. And, all this on an average family income of 25,000 per year. (before taxes) :-)

These markets ALL have ONE thing in common that we are not allowed to discuss. (I will discuss anything, but there are too many open-minded, tolerant, free-speech types who will shut this site down.)

  • Jay

And get a load of this. I just tried to talk to my senator about how the IRS is robbing me on taxes and his assistant told me that the IRS would not allow the Senators office to discuss what is deductible and what is not with me. Talk about corruption in government with the boot heal on the back of our neck!!! When the citizens can’t even discuss their problems with their representatives that is totalitarianism in action.
Her exact words were, “we can’t talk about that because the IRS would shut us down.”

A new paradigm is needed. We are not going to see manufacturing do anything but become completely robotized and who needs that returned to the US? Software and robots are replacing humans and in the immediate future we lose truck drivers, taxis, doctors, lawyers, fast food, mining, possibly jailers, military, the list is near endless. Some form of socialism has to come about, or we are going to see skynet become self aware and humans become the numbered on the Georgia Guidestones.

Who Cares about Stores closing. It’s about time some of these mega stores start hurting. Let them all burn in Hell. Anyway, everyone that reads these dooms day stories wants this and more to happen. Most are preppers and want to see if they can make it with their guns and food stores. You won’t make it. You all think you will. You have no idea how bad it will be. It will be 100 times worst than imagined. You all will perish in the end times. It will be too late to change unless you start now. First of all, no one in the Cities will survive. Nor most in the burbs. One must be deep in the wilderness to even have a small chance to survive. The new plagues will get most everyone. Most everyone won’t give up the good easy life to even have a chance to survive. Especially the overweight preppers. They can forget it.

Even in Midtown Manhattan NYC I’m seeing more and more retail outlets closing or moving downtown. All these for rent signs..very creepy. Exactly who is “peddling fiction, Mr, Obama???

    • REALIST

RETAIL is based on the shopping habits of the White Woman. When demographics change this market, the market changes. Midtown Manhattan should open up stalls for the Souks market. Sell lamb shawarmas, Lebneh sandwiches, cous cous., etc. There will always be someone to rent to, but the landlords have to look for a new kind of tenants. Hookah lounges and shops, falafel restaurants, etc. Change the music from rock and Sinatra to Kadim Al Sahir – Kitab Al Hobb 2. Hatim Amor – Alawal 3. Amine Aminux – Machi B7alhom 4. Carole Samaha – Rou7 Fell …

Retailers of all sizes and shapes are closing their doors. And this is an economic recovery?!

Obama’s living in bizarro land. He’s not like the rest of us. He’s most likely not stepped foot in a Walmart since he became president. He hasn’t been to KFC, where a chicken bucket costs more than a barrel of oil these days. Maybe, just maybe Sasha and Malia went to a neighborhood Aeropostale and came back to the White House in tears because the Aeropostale just closed for good. I doubt it though.

Our great education system keeps our kids in the dark! They should start discussing the monetary system in high school and college. This is the current problem in society today! We need to wake up more young people! We need to get our country back. We can discuss one world government when the banking cartel is removed and the corrupt governments around the world are not hell bound to destruct each other. All these arms deals including our nobel peace prize winner Obama, WHAT A JOKE! The governments are the problem and until the people figure out that they have to get more involved….nothing will be solved. We the People are the key!

    • Philosopher

Do not send your kids to public schools of indoctrination. That is the first step.

  • David G

Our Education system is government sponsored for the most part, so I am very aware that they will never teach them the truth! Our religious leaders are also the problem. They keep telling us to be just sheep amongst wolfs. GOD gave us free will! We can change….these religious leaders that keep telling us that the future is set and will not change are also the problems. Religion has been corrupted, if you think the powers that be have not messed with the scriptures you are wrong. They have every reason to keep preaching that there that the world will end in a terrible fashion. If you feel that you can’t make a difference you will be sitting aside rotting away allowing the corruption to take hold of every aspects of our lives.

    • Bill G Wilminton NC

Read your BIBLE the world does not END…..The Scriptures are not corrupted just some people….yes even many pastors and mainline church’s are not speaking THE WORDS OF THE BIBLE…..get yourself a BIBLE go to a CHRISTIAN bookstore they always have a big selection…. and find some local HOME BIBLE studies.

      • David G

What is the oldest gospel that was placed in the New Testament. 70-100 years after the Death of Christ. Complied gospels at the council of Nicaea convened by a Roman Emperor. Corruption at the highest Level! You would be naive if you think they did not omit or altered the truth!

        • Rob W

But… but… the bible is the inspired word of god…

          • Bill G Wilminton NC

Rob W….. Thanks for reminding me ! ! “The Bible is the Inspired Word of God “

        • Bill G Wilminton NC

The Roman Emperor was Constantine and the year was about 325. He and his mother converted to Christianity and then Constantine made Christianity the state religion of the Roman Empire. The Christians went from persecution to being celebrated.

The oldest book/gospel in The New Testament is Mark year 68-70…

David G the New Testament was written in Greek and the Original is still in Greece.

When a person reads/studies The Bible it does not take long to understand that these books/gospels link/cross link perfectly into the other books of The New Testament and also link and cross link all over The Old Testament. The Old and New Testaments link and cross reference back and forth with each other in so many areas that even the most intelligent Bible Researcher will admit that the more they study the more in AWE they become. In todays sophisticated world there is NO COMPUTER that can do what was done in The Bible. That is the best that I can explain…Thanks and feel free to ask any other questions.

          God Bless
          Shalom

          • Bill G Wilminton NC

The BIBLE is saturated with the foretelling of future events called “PROPHECY….

The Old Testament is the foretelling (prophecy) that a SAVIOR to the world IS COMING ! and sent by GOD ! These prophecy covered the name of HIS tribe, his mother’s family line, where he would be born, where, when, and how “This Savior” would die….many more prophecy.

These Prophecy said that The Jewish people would lose theirs lands and be vanquished BUT in The End Times would be back in their country “Israel” on the lands that GOD gave them and THEY would again speak their language HEBREW. ….many more prophecy.

In the BIBLE there are over 700 prophecy just on The Savior Yeshua…..Get a BIBLE read and be your own researcher you will be amazed as I was when I first realized ALL IS TRUE.

            God Bless
            Shalom

        • REALIST

Correct. The first Gospel, allowed into the Bible, was either Mathew or Mark (I didn’t know those were Hebrew Names 2,000 years ago). Whoever wrote it was never an eye-witness.

The, roughly, 12 Gospels written by eyewitnesses were voted OUT of the Bible, those by Peter, Mary, Judas, James, etc. It seems not a single one of them mentions “Virgin Birth” or “Resurrection”. Hmmm. Somebody didn’t like that.

Oh, read the book “THE SIGN” by Thomas de Wesselow. Awesome explanation of Christianity.

Retail store closings because of new business models, including internet based retailing taking hold, is called a “structural” change – and that is part of the constant evolution of the economic system, as new models of commerce take hold, then old models are discarded. Same as with manufacturing models that went from labor intensive to less labor intensive when automation became economically feasible. “Structural” changes are just that – structural – and not the “fault” of any standing president or congress during the period when these changes occur. A lot of it is free market in scope and should be welcomed as it creates new opportunities, in the long run. Structural changes always displace those not educated in the upcoming fields or whose skill set remains in the previous way of doing things but not in the new ways coming online. That is historical fact, through the centuries.

    • billtheguy

I agree with you in the structural sense however, I worked for a company that was virtually fully automated and operated on minimal manpower. They still went to India for parts. Cheap labor, no environmental laws, no occupational laws, hardly any import taxes, and it was still cheaper. Why does Chevrolet and the rest make cars out of the country when Honda, VW and Toyota make them here? Detroit did not think they were going to lose the manufacturing and look at the shape they’re in.

Retail has been tanking for some time but you are overlooking the other reason why nobody has any money: inflation. brought on by deregulation and outright greed.

25 years ago a phone was free and a phone bill was $25 except for overseas calls. Now you buy your own phone, pay extra for “local long distance” and long distance, and even more money for internet hookup. My current phone bill now runs about $100 a month and I don’t even have a cell phone.

25 years ago TV reception was free. Now because I live in a rural area and need satellite TV, my bill is $85 a month and I don’t even have any of the movie channels.

My electric bill has quadrupled; my heating bill more than doubled; medical bills and drugs are through the roof and eyeglasses cost $200. A new car costs $23,000 or more. When I bought my one and only new car 35 years ago, I paid $7000.

Of course I have no money left to spend in a department store or anywhere else.

I never understood some of the stores nowadays. Many are duplicates of what is available online for cheaper prices.

These stores can survive but somehow the experience must change to give them something they CAN’T find on an online store. Some have failed at this attempt like that books store chain.

Trump is an OUTSIDER not part of the establishment…..he obviously worked the establishment very well and knows them all and donated to all of their campaigns…..but trump is an outsider and the establishment is getting ready to bring Romney into the picture. Romney is the epitome of the establishment…. that is how afraid THEY are of TRUMP. He will end CRONY CAPITALISM or if TRUMP cant do it The USA is going over the financial cliff.

    wtf does obummer know, lol.

I used to teach economics at the graduate level.

While you cannot dispute the store closing, a balanced article would address, with equal statistics, the tremendous growth in on-line shopping. Many people use Amazon for everyday shopping (I know someone who orders his toilet paper on amazon), and niche sites like Harry’s Razor are obviating the need to people to go to Target, etc.

Brick and mortar retail is indeed reducing, but it can be equally due to the rise of alternate ways for people to get goods and services (the measure of GDP) as it economic policies of either party. Though leaders, and thought influencers like journalists, need to recognize the times have changed, and the measure of future economic success is not those of 20th century.

I’m not sure online retailers are doing so good. The kitchen store I used to frequent, Chef’s Catalog, announced the day after Christmas that they were going out of business.

I do, however, shop Amazon because I cannot get what I am looking for in the stores and it’s not just spending for the sake of buying. But I have read they are not operating in the green.

I think the real reason stores are closing is because people have less money to spend, especially the poor and middle class. That’s our situation at least. My husband lost a very good paying engineering job in Alabama and had to relocate to California as there were no jobs here. He makes the same as he did in Alabama, but expenses went through the roof and we actually have a lot less to live on.

I used to by things just because I wanted them. Now I pick and choose to buy what I actually need. I also shop at thrift stores. You meet a lot of people there who were once upper middle class. Heck, we were once upper middle class. Now we just get along from month to month. :(

Yup it is all coming……vote Trump he’s a citizen not a POLITICIAN.

He’s our one last chance to recover our economy and our freedom, that is if it isn’t already too late.

Jacynthia thanks for your great posts !

Even if Trump is elected it may be too late for him to turn it around. Try as he might and he would try with all his skills…..but Americans we dont give up we just forge forward or die trying. Go Trump Go !

Or if the establishment feels that Trump will WIN the Presidency they may create a situation that would require MARTIAL LAW (like riots in the cities) this martial law would enable Obama to cancel the elections and leave us with Dictator Obama ( pleasant thought huh) til civil obedience is restored. But then how do you get a dictator to step down….especially one cut from the mold that Obama is cut from.

The establishment is crapping in their pants lol cause no matter what THEY throw at The “TRUMPSTER” it just rolls off….even The Pope couldn’t get him lol.

            TRUMP 2016 GOTRUMP GO

          • Jacynthia Read

You are right on all accounts. A false flag event would put us with a dictator for God only knows how long. Yes, Trump scares the establishment because they do not own him.

Don’t worry the least about Trump. He will try to reverse this collapse and he will fail.

With the change in demographics, it is too dangerous to go to stores.

Especially these “GUN FREE” malls and stores. They are inviting the mass murder of their best customers.

All stores should have a sign that says:
“We shall do all to protect our staff and customers. Various employees and customers may or may not be fully armed with weapons”

      • Mark

I totally agree with you. More poverty and lower paying jobs. You cannot expand an economy when someone losses an $80,000 a year job and working part-time for $20,000. This is real.

  • Jim Oliver

Michael, I’m a faithful reader of your blog. You’ve said the American dollar is going to collapse and be worthless, You’ve also said to get out of debt and to buy gold and silver. If the dollar is going to collapse doesn’t it make sense to borrow as much as you can (and for as long as you can) and take that loaned money and buy gold and silver. When the dollar does collapse you’ll be paying back your friendly Bankster with worthless paper while your gold investment skyrockets!

    • df NJ

Boomers are dying like crazy in their 60s. The value of dollar comes from copulation. We will soon have many more people less than 60 than over 60.

  • df NJ

When people have less places to shop the remaining stores increase sales.

    • Bill G Wilminton NC

Yes you are correct if we get down to one store in each state…..Man that store will really be BUSY…good thinking.

  • retired22

To Realist & the others,…there is hope, the enemy is vulnerable & the solutions are not as difficult as many believe!
The solution is to defeat the leaches who are feeding on us.These leaches are in the financial sector,The Federal Reserve central bankers, the international financiers & the speculators in the rigged financial markets who are sucking huge quantities of wealth out of the real economy.
Wealth that is returned to the real economy will go a long way in relieving the economic pressure on Main Street USA!
The financial sector had 2 tools to keep the public under their thumbs, the media & the politicians that they own!
The MSM is on it’s knees, almost completely discredited & despised by the public who they betrayed.
what is left for the voters to do is to get rid of the political thieves that govern in Washington!
With breathing room we can then begin to dismantle the welfare state & the centralized power structure in Washington!

The answer is Nuclear. We are just too stupid to do it and do it right. My college degrees in Chemistry and Physics enables me to sort the reality from the BS.

BUT, the Saudi Royal family, Russian Oil Monopoly and all Third World oil exporters, who have NOTHING ELSE to sell, fight like hell against Nuclear and keep financing the “Greenies”, etc. even though “Global Warming” has to be fought (while the world has cooled over the last 10 years…not local temps, the WORLD’s temp.)

    • NP1

your degrees have not brought home the fact that a nuclear power station (a construct of hydrocarbon based energy) delivers only electricity.
electricity has no use unless it is given a working function. —we need ‘things’ on the ends of the wires that come from power stations.
our ‘infrastructure’ is entirely based on the function of converting force into rotary motion—everything we do is concerned with wheels of one sort or another.
Therefore, no matter how much electricity is produced we will have to continue to manufacture the levers by which we put that electricity to work.
You degrees will have shown you that we convert hydrocarbons into “stuff” one way or another. Electricity cannot be made directly into ‘stuff,

  • VigilanteCaregiver

Mike, I firmly believe many retail jobs can be replaced with automation. If we wanted to, Americans can alter our economy into a production/industry economy without much manned retail. I also know a family can grow the majority of their food at home – even in urban areas (which is what I’m doing).

There’s a stall at our local shopping mall with only vending machines. These machines have a good variety of foods (snacks and cooked entree’s), clothing, video games, cut flower bouquets, DVD’s, etc. No store clerk, everything behind security glass, and no lines. Now, imagine if this sort of set up could be upgraded with more stock, a few payment kiosks, and housed in a 7-11 sized structure. Mostly autonomous, and can be monitored by the owner via smartphone. This is what I see as the future of physical retail.

As for those unemployed: they can be trained for other positions. Better yet; train themselves. If there’s one thing we should eliminate from education is the exclusionary use of vocabulary for professions. We have a shared common language and it should be utilized for industry. It’s incredible what person is capable of when they have an actual understanding of the tasks at hand. However, this doesn’t help the powers-that-be and lets face it: the vast majority of folks, even the folks that are in opposition to an elitist sect of politics and industry, go out of their way to indirectly support this minority. Have you ever heard people put you down for trying something new or possibly successful? Folks prefer to feel successful by keeping someone else from actually succeeding. Pathetic.

The economy on any level, especially local, can be whatever the populace wants it to be – sans eltists.

And you don’t have to walk across a parking lot where you will be robed, raped or insulted if the demographics are not yours.

When White Women fear to go to a store, it is over.

      • Jacynthia Read

You have a point. People are getting robbed and shot at the Walmart stores in our area. It used to be those in the bad part of town at around dusk, but the other day someone was shot at one of the uptown Walmarts at ten in the morning. To top that off there was a shooting in the Whole Food’s parking lot that same day. I guess people are getting desperate.

        • REALIST

“Certain people” are getting desperate? When the criminal community runs out of victims in “the community”, they are forced to go to new hunting grounds. And, this is where the White Women are.

After a poor holiday for retailers store closings are announced. How does this year compare to pasts post-holidays announcements? Any stats, charts anyone has seen?

  • gfmucci

From a successful retailer’s perspective, adpating store locations to changing demographics, changing neighborhoods, changing marketing trends, and changing buying habits is essential.

For example, how many “marginal” stores are closed because that chain sells more merchandise on line? How many stores are closed because of the ever occurring transition and decline of neighborhoods? How many 20 and 30 year old stores become obsolete for reasons of excess maintenance costs or changing layout requirements

Even if our national economy was growing at 5% per year, there are always declining neighborhoods, declining markets, and outmoded, inefficient stores that require store closures.

This article would reflect reality better if it did two more things:
    1) Take into consideration the normal attrition of retail stores that normally occurs to address the above factors, and
    2) Take into consideration new or relocated store locations – i.e. “net” store closures.

    • REALIST

And take into consideration the “demographic” changes which kill any store designed on an extinct customer base. (you know what I am saying)

    • Mark

Or the fact that we are losing good paying jobs and replacing them with low paying jobs. Nobody has disposable income. I don’t care if people buy on the internet because total sales are declining. Internet sales may be taking more market share but that does not mean that sales are increasing. They are decreasing and as a result there will be a slow down from a manufacturing perspective which is happening worldwide. Producing and manufacturing are king and those jobs need to come home. You do not need many people to manage a website and a warehouse pays S***.

  • WhySoSerious?

What is this my brain cannot compute why people are closing down retail stores!

    THE FUTURE….

Trump becomes President. He is intelligent, understands finance, even understands our Monetary System, economics, world trade parameters and how nasty they are.

He calls in the Federal Reserve known as Godfather to the worlds banking system. He has Treasury & the IRS attend.

He says to them, all of us here today know that our Monetary System is a Debt based system. You as the FED have Treasury print this across the face of your currency. I suppose you think this is ‘cute’. But I am not laughing.

I suppose all of know the very foundation of our Monetary System. I would like for you to repeat it after me ……
……….. “PRODUCTION & SPENDING MUST BE IN BALANCE”

Now, you do know what your Congressional Charter is. Yes, it is to manage the monetary system and to maintain full employment. So, can you explain why, under your watch, you have corrupted the Monetary System and lead the Nation into insolvency.

Yes….. I understand. It is China’s fault, it is Bush’s fault, It is the fault of Oil Firms, of course – the wars, It is the Politicians fault – yes, thats true, and its Russia’s fault. Okay, get all that. But now answer me, why did you allow it to influence your decisions. Yes, it is complicated.

To the sergeant at arms. Please escort these people to a detention cell until they can un-complicated things.

Trump to V.P. Cruz — we are screwed. They have no idea what they were doing. That or they are not talking. No matter, we know the end result.

Here is what I going to do Cruz. Declare a State of Emergency. Then use Executive Orders to balance the budget, Rid ourselves of Debt, Reduce Federal funding to 4 percent of GDP. And anything else it takes. All non-essiental agencies are to be de-funded. It will up to the States to handle these matters.

To Cruz, far as I am concerned this is no different from any other bankruptcy, just a lot bigger. As soon as I have put our Nations house in order I will resign as President. I would like you to appoint me as Secretary of State. From this position I can re-negioate trade agreements and work to re-established a manufacturing base.

NOW.. as Cruz is one of the political elite he should be able to carry through. If not, recall Trump and tell him to bring a meat clever.

That is my dream scenario and I am sticking with it.

    • REALIST

Trump will get a bullet in he back of his head from those who own the Banking System. There is NO WAY the ruling Families will put up with that.

      • usathoughts

That is the conclusion I expect. The object of the story is exactly that.

Admit to it being rather clumsy. Was thinking of JFK and his instructions to treasury, print 6 billion in currency. Also Saddam of Iraq when he announced the acceptance of the Euro instead of dollars. Neither went over well with the Federal Reserve. As Beck would say; Just saying!

Trump is probably safe until midnight of the 2nd of March. If he pulls all 12 States will need to run his campaign from a bunker.

Recall Jeb Bush suggesting to the RINO establishment to put a bullet where Trumps head is – IN PUBLIC. Then an RNC operative, Wilson, doubled down on this, again, in public. Now all this talk about taking Trump down! And, he has to be stopped!

Hope Mr. Trump understands how serious these people are. These same people scared Ross Perot off, but it was too late to save Bush.

An aside. Senator Sanders of Vermont looks after the State with the largest Heron use in the Nation. Now I know why he is so popular with the young crowd.

So, Sanders does not attack Hillary as a Crony Capitalist and she does not attack Sanders as a drug lord. You gotta love the democrats – they put on a great circus act.
