Investors Start To Panic As A Global Bond Market Crash Begins

Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Google+Share on LinkedInShare on StumbleUponEmail this to someone

Panic Keyboard - Public DomainIs the financial collapse that so many are expecting in the second half of 2015 already starting?  Many have believed that we would see bonds crash before the stock market crashes, and that is precisely what is happening right now.  Since mid-April, the yield on 10 year German bonds has shot up from 0.05 percent to 0.89 percent.  But much of that jump has come this week.  Just a couple of days ago, the yield on 10 year German bonds was sitting at just 0.54 percent.  And it isn’t just Germany – bond yields are going crazy all over Europe.  So far, it is being estimated that global investors have lost more than half a trillion dollars, and there is much more room for these bonds to fall.  In the end, the overall losses could be well into the trillions even before the stock market collapses.

I know that for most average Americans, talk about “bond yields” is rather boring.  But it is important to understand these things, because we could very well be looking at the beginning of the next great financial crisis.  The following is an excerpt from an article by Wolf Richter in which he details the unprecedented carnage that we have witnessed over the past few days…

On Tuesday, ahead of the ECB’s policy announcement today, German Bunds sagged, and the 10-year yield soared from 0.54% to 0.72%, drawing a squiggly diagonal line across the chart. In just one day, yield increased by one-third!

Makes you wonder to which well-connected hedge funds the ECB had once again leaked its policy statement and the all-important speech by ECB President Mario Draghi that the rest of us got see today.

And today, the German 10-year yield jump to 0.89%, the highest since October last year. From the low in mid-April of 0.05% to today’s 0.89% in just seven weeks! Bond prices, in turn, have plunged!  This is the definition of a “rout.”

Other euro sovereign bonds have gone through a similar rout, with the Spanish 10-year yield soaring from 1.05% in March to 2.07% today, and the Italian 10-year yields jumping from a low in March of 1.03% to 2.17% now.

What this means is that the central banks are losing control.

In particular, the European Central Bank has been trying very hard to force yields down, and now the exact opposite is happening.

This is very bad news for a global financial system that is absolutely teeming with red ink.  Since the last financial crisis, our planet has been on the greatest debt binge of all time.  If we are moving into a time of higher interest rates, that is going to cause enormous problems.  Unfortunately, CNBC says that is precisely where things are headed…

The wild breakout in German yields is rocking global debt markets, and giving investors an early glimpse of the uneasy future for bonds in a world of higher interest rates.

The shakeout also carries a message for corporate bond investors, who have snapped up a record level of new issuance this year, and are now seeing negative total returns in the secondary market for the first time this year.

So why is this happening?

Why are bond yields going crazy?

According to the Wall Street Journal, financial regulators in Europe are blaming the ECB’s quantitative easing program…

A recent surge in government bond market volatility can be blamed on the quantitative easing program of the European Central Bank, according to one of Europe’s top financial regulators.

EIOPA, the body responsible for regulating insurers and pension funds in the European Union, has warned that the ECB’s decision to buy billions of euros’ worth of sovereign bonds, to kick-start the region’s economy, has caused markets to become choppier.

And actually this is what should be happening.  When central banks start creating money out of thin air and pumping it into the markets, investors should rationally demand a higher return on their money.  This didn’t really happen when the Federal Reserve tried quantitative easing, so the Europeans thought that they might as well try to get away with it too.  Unfortunately for them, investors are starting to catch up with the scam.

So what happens next?

Well, European bond yields are probably going to keep heading higher over the coming weeks and months.  This will especially be true if the Greek crisis continues to escalate.  And unfortunately for Europe, that appears to be exactly what is happening

Greece will not make a June 5 repayment to the International Monetary Fund if there is no prospect of an aid-for-reforms deal with its international creditors soon, the spokesman for the ruling Syriza party’s lawmakers said on Wednesday.

The payment of 300 million euros ($335 million) is the first of four this month totaling 1.6 billion euros from a country that depends on foreign aid to stay afloat.

Greece owes a total of about 320 billion euros, of which about 65 percent to euro zone governments and the IMF, and about 8.7 percent to the European Central Bank.

On Tuesday, Greece’s creditors drafted the broad outlines of an agreement to put to the leftist government in Athens in a bid to conclude four months of negotiations and release aid before the country runs out of money.

“If there is no prospect of a deal by Friday or Monday, I don’t know by when exactly, we will not pay,” Nikos Filis told Mega TV.

In fact, there are reports that both the ECB and the Greek government are talking about Greece going to a “parallel domestic currency”

Biagio Bossone and Marco Cattaneo write that according to several recent media reports, both the Greek government and the ECB are taking into consideration the possibility (for Greece) to issue a parallel domestic currency to pay for government expenditures, including civil servant salaries, pensions, etc. This could happen in the coming weeks as Greece faces a severe shortage of euros. A new domestic currency would help make payments to public employees and pensioners while freeing up the euros needed to pay out creditors.

If Greece defaults and starts using another currency, the value of the euro is going to absolutely plummet and bond yields all over the continent are going to start heading into the stratosphere.

That is why it is so important to keep an eye on what is going on in Greece.

But no matter what happens in Greece, it appears that we are moving into a time when there will be higher interest rates around the world.  And since 505 trillion dollars in derivatives are directly tied to interest rate levels, that could lead to a financial unraveling unlike anything that we have ever seen before in the history of our planet.

As I have warned about so many times before, 2008 was just the warm up act.

The main event is still coming, and it is going to be extraordinarily painful.

Why didn’t bond yields rise with Fed QE? Is it possible for these yields to rise and the central banks not be able to stop it? If they did try to stop it what is the most likely thing they would do?

    • former bankster

The Fed QE was mainly on stocks focused and with money for the banks. ECB AE is focused on bonds entirely, so that are 2 complete different stories.

    • Tim

There is an inverse relationship between a bond’s yield and its price. Higher demand for bonds causes bond prices to rise and yields to fall. Conversely, lower demand for bonds causes bond prices to fall and yields to rise.

What I don’t understand, and I’ve expressed this in a previous comment, is that when the Fed ended its latest round of QE, yields on U.S. Treasury bonds fell. Theoretically, just the opposite should have happened. There are really only two possible explanations for this. Either the Fed never really stopped buying Treasuries or foreign demand for Treasuries increased subsequent to the Fed’s purported end of QE. I don’t know whether it’s the former or the latter. Perhaps someone else here could enlighten us.

      • T.

According to JW the golden jackass – the big buyers of all our bonds issuance has been the Fed; Belgium; Caymenn Islands and I think he said Luxemburg. It’s all part of the Scam to keep the game going till September 2015 – When all hell breaks loose. SHEMITAH.

        • Catman

How will all these bond purchasers benefit if there is a major correction as per Shemitah?

          • T.

It keeps the game going. If they were not buying and nobody else was buying – it would have blown up already.

The Banksters have a target date of September 2015 – Shemitah.

        • tom

Yeah use conspiracy theory and bible stuff as your evidence. what’s next?new world order.

          • T.

Tom many Conspiracy theories have proven already to be Conspiracy Fact.
It has been proven that a few big banks have Conspired to Control the LIBOR rate for many years. Banks simply pay a fine – the cost of doing dirty business.
People like you think that All these big bank’s Criminal activity should be found out by the Justice Dept and Regulatory Agencies and EXPOSED. How naïve. The international Banksters Control All these Departments and Agencies – Along with the Media who are supposed to report this to the people. I really do not know if people like you are just naïve or plain stupid.

        • Tim

I don’t know where Willie gets his information. But he’s a smart guy for sure.

It may be that the Fed never really stopped buying bonds. I don’t know. The U.S. bond market is so big and complex that I don’t think we’re capable of fully understanding it. That’s how I see it.

          • Mike Smithy

Zero Hedge published an article last month which revealed that China was using a Belgium brokerage house as a smoke screen to purchase U.S. Treasuries. At the time, we were all suspicious and astounded with the notion that the Belgium government purchasing U.S. Treasuries. As it turns out our instincts were mostly correct.

    • YH

“Why didn’t bond yields rise with Fed QE?”
The short answer is Investor Confidence. After 2008 the Fed restored investor confidence so fast with QE and Stimulus that the bond market didn’t have a chance to react. Investors will trade sea shells if they are confident that sea shells have value or is artificially backed by big brother at the Fed Reserve.
What happens when the Fed runs out of bullets? Investor Confidence collapses and that’s when the real fireworks will begin.

    • Genada

If you want to stop it, you would buy all the bonds. The Bank of Japan is pretty much buying all the bonds for Japan at this point. There is no market. Just indirect transfer payments. Japan sells bond, you buy bond, Bank of Japan buys bond from you.

That’s where the scam is at here. You front run the central bank and then sell them the bonds. There’s a skim in this process that is being taken.

Bond yields didn’t raise because the Fed bought enough and convinced everyone they would keep buying to drive the rates down. Plus the banks are forced in large part to buy bonds to act as tier one capital. So there’s always a demand for bonds and a understanding they will do whatever it takes.

Direct qe ended but the buying of bonds by the Fed has never stopped. The Fed takes it’s interest from the bonds it’s holding and buys more bonds. It’s a ever growing ponzi.

      • AzDi

Pretty much like our own government buying up our own treasury bonds? I think so.

I smell another Hunger Games movie on the horizon.

    Hunger Games:American Economy Pt 1

Im in my 20s and there is too much uncertainty in the financial world for the younger generation. This will get worse and as I pray to get and stay closer to God for protection.God is your Ultimate must have prep.We haven’t seen the real sorrow, pain, and suffering yet.

    • df NJ

Faith in an omnipotent God is easy. Faith in the people around us and each other is what takes real faith. The value of the dollar is based on “trust” which is essentially a form of faith. That’s what is holding the economy up right now. People are showing up to work because they trust that their paycheck will have meaning. But as the many of us who are still working and have basically no chance to retire with dignity come to realize our paychecks have no meaning all hell will break lose. You can predict riots in all the major cities. But since it is based on human emotion its hard to know when the spirit of the people will break and we will see more rioting like we saw in Baltimore.

      • Max

Very true but faith in man is a dead man’s hands. And trust that those in power have already predicted and properly prepared for when the people (us) realize our paychesck have zero meaning. Also, you’re right about Bmore…That was the testing ground; wait for when “all others” join in. An “us vs them” scenario.

      • Nemnor

Personally, I have faith in the “collective intelligence” of the Human Race to find effective and lasting solution to virtually any problem. However, what is missing is a GENUINE democratic environment for the Human Race to operate under.

For those of us who believe in God (or some “superior being” who is responsible for our existence), the “collective intelligence” of the Human Race IS (in a sense) the “mind of God”.

      • Priszilla

Faith in people is reverse proportional to the number of guns sold.

      • Shawn Severing

TRUST THE WORD OF GOD .AND KEEP YOUR FAITH IN HIM . MAN WILL FALL WHEN HE TAKES HIS EYES OFF THE LORD .

        • unbubbleslayr

We’ll see how well that works out.

    • CharlesH

You may be in your 20s but you’re wise beyond your years. Stay with God – maintain that faith. I wish you all the best.

      • GSOB

God has become man and this man is Jesus Christ. The hope of a Christian is to be accepted by God and abide in Him… as we behold and reflect Him, were are being transformed into His image, the image of Christ,…
We need Christ formed in us because this is what God has prepared for those who love Him.

        • unbubbleslayr

          Keep believing in fairy tales.

      • unbubbleslayr

Faith in God is not wise.

        • CharlesH

          Your comment is what’s unwise.

          • unbubbleslayr

God is irrelevant to our reality. If God was important then he’d be in our dimension. Your response to me was unwise.

          • CharlesH

Maybe this will make you feel better. I’ll pray for you. Enjoy!

          • unbubbleslayr

If praying worked there’d be no dead people.

          • CharlesH

You must be the life of the party around the Thanksgiving Day table. Anyways – I found faith, maybe you will some day. I wish you all the best.

          • unbubbleslayr

Yes, I dance on the table and tell jokes, People love me. May be you will lose faith and realize the bible is all a hoax.

    • Priszilla

god made the environment before man made the financial gambling system. If you believed in God’s wisdom you’d see sense in the healthy environment being the base of a healthy human…

      • Timmyz

The gods (Elohim) of the bible genetically modified hominoids to propagate and make more babies (slaves) to mine their gold. The gods of bible do not give a damn about anyone or anything anymore. If there are some gods that have some balls, they should know my address. That is, if they are smart enough. The Jesus the Christ story is the greatest lie told to mankind. Why… wait all for money. With money you can apparently buy your salvation.. Just ask Bill Gates!

    • Shawn Severing

THAT’S RIGHT .YOUR A SMART ONE .TO BAD OTHER WON’T LISTEN TO YOU .

    • James Clander

There is no God -you’ve been brainwashed probably from birth to believe fairy tales. Well bad luck about that.
You’re going to have to look after YOURSELF & think for yourself not hope that some mystical God will help you. I hope you & other bible worshipers WTFU.

      • Gary

You are in for a very rude awakening James.

    • James Clander

So much for free speech. My post in reply to this was deleted because I pointed out that Jesus worship is exactly what’s wrong with America. I’ts a BS tale & if you don’t learn to think for yourselves then there’s NO hope.
Be interesting to see if the same censor also deletes this – shame on you if you do.

    • James Clander

So censorship rules — what a wanker you are.
BTW – – there is NO God -just cause you don’t like that statement doesn’t make it not true. No wings for you ! :)

    • esqualido

“God is your Ultimate must have prep.” I think Jean de la Fontaine had the right idea 400 years ago: “Aides-toi et le ciel t’aidera.”

    • unbubbleslayr

God has an awful track record protecting people. Millions die every year, suffering horrible deaths.

    • unbubbleslayr

There seems to be plenty of certainty. Markets will crash and when they hit bottom they will boom. Can’t be anymore certain than that.

  • sre

I’ve heard and read about the coming collapse so much that it no longer has meaning for me. I’ve been expecting something to happen for many years now, but nothing ever does, even the unfortunate events of 2008 did not directly affect me or my family.
Has any one besides me ever heard the story of the boy who cried wolf, or read about Chicken Little?

    • T.

No. You are the Only one sre – enjoy your cozy little life and have lots of fun. Bye, bye.

    • Richard

The reason the coming collapse hasn’t happened is that this is truly the last stop before financial Armageddon. By which I mean when it happens, 98% of all those in the financial services industry WILL LOSE THEIR LIVELIHOODS. This they know perfectly well. So they string things out (look at Greece, for example) until there is absolutely no recognisable can to kick any further down the road which, in any case, has stopped right at the edge of the precipice! It WILL happen, sre, be assured of that. Mathematically, there’s simply no other way out. In retrospect, you’ll see that the timing was the least important factor. In fact, you’ll have forgotten that you even cared!

      • Joel

        I agree :-)

    • K

In or before 2008, did the local police have armored personnel carriers? Had the Government stockpiled, two billion rounds of ammunition? Had the Government bought an entire year worth of production, from the largest storage food manufacturer? If you can not see the difference this time. Then nothing I can say, will reach you.

      • Mike Smithy

Excellent points. Before 2008, did the government have bail-in legislation prepared? Did the bankers have ZIRP? Before 2008, did the government monetize it’s own debt?

        • K

Excellent points by you as well.

        • evoval

Long before 2008 America gave away its strength to China and 3rd world country’s. This is the inevitable END from the start of NAFTA and what happens as a result of accepting and embracing slavery. To beat your competition you have to better your competition and to do that Americans will become slaves.

          • flautistmaniac

America gave away its strength when we stopped keeping the 10 commandments. And that is how history works, over and over and over. People lose the Holy Ghost and then they get destroyed or go into bondage. At this point, it is time to practice overcoming our individual addictions and be to the point where we would be willing to endure hardships with our moral code intact.

          • Feldrauschen David

            amen!

      • Alwaystomorrow

No they did not. They use to use cannons and muskets and horses. Times change and so do the tools they use. Are you still using a fax machine and an 8 track. Do not fear change.

        • Mike

Don’t fear a changing government that stockpiles two billion rounds of ammunition and an entire year worth of production from the largest storage food manufacturer, etc.

        • K

Except during times of war. When did the police own cannons? Another unreachable one.

    • http://www.coroflot.com/joelpeeters/portfolio Joel Peeters

Clearly, you have mud in your eyes, mud in your ears, and a brain wave at zero level. In 7 years you did not even notice how much the world itself has change since the last economic crisis, even more for the US…???

In what world do you live in?

    • jsmith

Well, I’m that chicken little and every time I bring up the economy around family members, I live up to my name. No matter that they have more to lose than me, they just don’t want to hear it. They want to live in their own reality, besides, the truth hurts. As long as it doesn’t affect them, the reality of a decayed Detroit spreading like wildfire and millions of Americans being unemployed, as long as their dollar can still buy something, not much but something, they are happy.
Again I’m reminded what my dad told me some years back, which was that while he was employed during the depression of the 1930’s, there were quite a number of people that were unemployed in Manchester Connecticut, and neighbors would come over to sell their homes at ridiculously low prices. Some people just did not have even a dime. And let’s not forget that there were millionaires that became instant paupers after the crash of 1929. “The symptoms of impending crisis were overlooked.” Then, and now.

    • tom

I have read crap on here for three years. Some stuff is interesting, but nothing ever comes true. Michael has been making money of these fear mongers for years.

      • Yermomandeye

Three years is not a long time. We are all surprised how long the house of cards has lasted but that doesn’t mean it’s still not a house of cards. Even Michael is surprised. Just because we haven’t seen the “Big One” earthquake in the last 20 years on the West Coast doesn’t mean it wont happen. It will. It must. Nothing else CAN happen now. Be patient, prepare your finances and personal life. You will be rewarded with the show of a lifetime in the near future.

      • alan

This started in 2008, its going to take awhile for it to come home to roost. Look at Rome it took a long time. Even Greece has been going through death convulsions for 5 years now. No body wants the music to stop, but it will.

    • Malcolm Reynolds

I’ve been expecting something to happen for many years now, but nothing ever does
Ummm hello, you’re in it. It’s not a light switch. It’s not an instantaneous event. It’s happening all around you.

    • greyprepper

I’ve been on the same page lately. I’ve made my preparations of course; what we call “prepping” was just plain old common sense a century ago (deep larder, etc) but in regards to the economy…? Yeah, I’ll believe it when I see it.

    • evoval

And the reality is, it takes time to dismantle a superpower.
Just hope they can keep it going but the reality of 18+ trillion in mathematically impossible to repay debt, derivatives debt that makes the national debt look puny in comparison and a over printed fiat currency with nothing backing it up is just that, reality. Call it what you will, the boy who cried Wolf, chicken little whatever, it still doesn’t remove the reality of the situation and all those that have cried wolf and all those chicken little’s where only trying to awake those with their heads in the sand and reverse the reality of the inevitable and it failed. So accept the end result to your ignorance of the situation at hand. I hope when the wheels finally fall off it doesn’t affect you and yours but that wouldn’t be realistic.

    • Ken Lloyd

I am with you sre. I have been expecting economic collapse for many years, but nothing happens in spite of the warnings. But yet, I don’t ignore the warnings because history shows things are never good for ever, and the warnings do seem logical. I read these things trying to figure out what to do to protect myself, but really, I don’t have a clue how to do it.

  • Richard

Yet another fabulous article, Michael. Thank you so much for toning down the rhetoric. Your prose is now truly a joy to read. i don’t always agree with what you say (usually I do) but if you keep on writing like this, you won’t hear another peep from me in reference to your writing style.
    Congratulations.

    • Joel

Ooooo shut up and get over yourself.
Make a comment on the subject of the article for once…

      • Richard

Idiot, not only did I “make a comment on the subject of the article only for once” above, YOU YOURSELF said, “I agree” in a post just below AND gave me a thumbs up. What’s the matter with you? Are you resentful that I’ve encouraged Michael to dispense with the dumbing-down characteristic? What is it with you people? It was a way of speaking. For someone who wants to give lesson to others you did not even understand that? And as I already said, stop correcting people on their English – there are many ways English is spoken all over the world, so stop putting yourself in front with your high opinion of yourself.

And I’m not resentful, I just have difficulties with morons who have the arrogance to give UNwanted advice to others. Again, make your own blog, write your own article with your “beautiful and perfect” English, and stop commenting on the way people writes. You have chosen the easy way – correcting others, your are a lazy man… period.

As for the thumbs up, you should be happy I’m agreeing with you that you made an intelligent comment at least once in relation to the article.

That we are going into the WALL is obvious sadly.

If History serve as a reminder, the main consequence of the next Crisis (especially considering the scale involved) can only mean a more destabilized world than the one we know today.

As for the US, I think it will mean the end of its Super-power status (by this I mean overstretched military capabilities, and low economy) – the main reason being a re-allocation of those capabilities to deal with insurgency inside the Country.

As for Europe, the old demons are still there well alive – the only reason for Europe to have been a peaceful place for so long (unusual lenght btw) is because of the US. Once the US (and Pax Americana) out of the way, their will be no restrainer on the Old Continent. Add to that, a civil reaction to a big crisis and Depression, and you have the usual receipe for a new “Hitler” in the making. People will demand one…

As for China, they are pragmatic people, but also – as Europe – a 2000 years old History example of peace, bloodshed, crisis, conquest, etc, etc.

The next decade is clearly not pretty. and everything will be decided with the next Economic Crisis… whether it is with the Shemita or not, it will happen sooner or later…

Greece is the warm up act. The entire EU will be gone in less then two years. When times are good, you can get along in such a union. Times turn bad then it turns ugly.

Nationalism is on the raise and every country in the EU is blaming every other member for it’s problems. As this goes on more countries are going to turn to newer and more extreme parties.

Think of Greece as Bear Sterns. The first goes under then the sharks smell blood, then they start looking for the next target. So if they allow Greece to go and they default, it’s game over for the EU. At that point they either watch as country after country goes under or they buy the entire damn bond market just like Japan.

The good news for the United States in this is that the worse it gets in Europe the better it should get for US markets as people flee Europe. Unless a problem in Europe blows up US banks, which could very well happen.

    • Mike Smithy

“The good news for the United States in this is that the worse it gets in Europe the better it should get for US markets as people flee Europe.”

Too many derivitives are intertwined. Once the dominoes start to fall, every country on the planet will be affected.

I suspect there is a rope from the EU which is tied around our neck, they slip we go too.

    • Horiboyable .

This is a “WEST” problem. This is the collapse of socialism because it is not a sustainable system. Its like a country wide ponzi scheme and it goes on until you run out of other peoples money to spend. The whole of Europe is broke, even Germany. How America ever went down that socialist road I have no idea. America’s fore fathers WARNED against the evils of socialism and yet folks keep asking for more of what is about to destroy you. When you have the likes of Ayn Rand & Milton Friedman warned of the absolute failure of socialism, the ordinary US citizen is oblivious to what is about to happen to their way of life. Gerald Celente has a saying; when the people are losing and the they have nothing else to lose, they lose it. The USA like Europe has lots of civil unrest coming.

      • Gay Veteran

Gerald Celente correctly notes that America has a fascist government (the merger of state and corporate powers)

        • Horiboyable .

Very very true. America is destroying its self, like Rome & Britain.

      • Nemnor

Horiboyable, what you mistakenly refer to as “socialism”, are more accurately varying forms of “managed capitalism” or “state capitalism” or “directed capitalism”, etc.

Nevertheless, theses varying form of CAPITALISM (which you erroneously labeled as “socialism”) are ALL still ESSENTIALLY Capitalism – and especially so because, in the economy of EVERY country in Europe and in The Americas (the “WEST” – as you put it), the means of production and distribution of goods and services are MOSTLY PRIVATELY owned.

This is a basic TRUTH about the economy in EVERY country in Europe and The Americas – they are ALL basically/essentially CAPITALIST economies for CENTURIES now. And it is CAPITALISM that is now not a sustainable system (anywhere in the World) – as it has reached a stage of general over-production, that can NOT be solved within Capitalism by economic means alone.

        • Horiboyable .

Oh I stand corrected, so the NHS is not the biggest employer in the world, state run education, state owned Banks and the list goes on…

You obviously have no clue what CAPITALISM means or socialism either. My interpretation of Capitalism is TOTAL separation of the state and economics, commonly known as laissez faire. The UK has not had laissez faire capitalism for about 200 years now and when they did practice it, Britain was at its strongest. The USA has gone the same way. You let more socialism in and the poorer you get.

          • Nemnor

In the economy of EVERY country in Europe and in The Americas , the means of production and distribution of goods and services are MOSTLY PRIVATELY owned.

You can not honestly deny the above FACT. Hence, what you mistakenly labeled as “socialism”, is really a DECADENT form of Capitalism – since the economy REMAINED essentially Capitalist. (right?)

However, it was the SAME “laissez faire capitalism” (as you put it) that NATURALLY and inevitably decayed into the modern-day decadent forms of Capitalism. And, there is NO going back to (your) “laissez faire capitalism”, as the system is now at a “dead end” and would only continue to decline towards total collapse/chaos.

          • Horiboyable .

Do your self favor and read more than Karl Marx. More government intervention in the economy means less production and that is fact. The United Kingdom use practice nearly complete laissez faire capitalism and that is when she was at her strongest and rules the seven seas. When they started down that socialist road it weakened their strength just like America has done and just like Rome did. I get tried of explaining to myopic folks like you, that the state is a CONSUMER of wealth not a creator. Have you ever visited any of the Eastern European and see the abject poverty they live in while for their five year plans to work. A good book for might be The Road To Serfdom or Capitalism the unknown ideal. I never justify Capitalism for economic reasons although it delivers the most wealth to the majority of citizens. I justify capitalism for one reason only. It is the only economic system that is compatible with individual rights. ICapitalism respects one of the ten commandments, thou shalt not covet my neighbor’s goods. Socialism is the economic system of envy

          • Horiboyable .

Also stop trying to redefine capitalism to suit your warped views.

You would think Christ would be more powerful in the World and we would see more love, peace, and understanding. But it appears Christ is truly dead in today’s World. Lot’s of fans of Christ. Not many people pushing the ball up the field.

What I find fascinating, for people who put faith if such things, is in 2000 the five point stars on Republican party’s logo were flipped upside down. An upside down five point star is a Satanic symbol. Evil always exists where you least expect it. If you accept the 9/11 truthers interpretation of the cabal evidence then you can only conclude the Skull-and-Bones Satanic worshipers are running this country for death, chaos, and profit. God gave man free will for a reason.
If you are implying the Jesus needs to do more to help his followers – Then you are the typical arrogant man. Trying to know God is impossible – We are dumb animals and we prove it everyday. God is God and will do what he wants when he wants to whom he wants and he does not answer questions.

        • df NJ

How do you know when God is actually doing something? I think it may be the height of human hubris to pretend to know when God is actually participating in the affairs of man. It seems to me based on human experiment there is no amount of evil God will not tolerate in order to preserve our free will.

I do not see us as “dumb animals”. I like to think of us like a priceless piece of art and each of us should be treated with extreme reverence. When you carry a priceless piece of art across the room you do so as if the object is sacred. That is how we should treat each other in my opinion. I was not implying Jesus needs to do more for his followers. In my understanding of Jesus’s teachings he was not trying to create a cult of personality. Jesus was not looking for adulation from his followers…uh…fans.

What I was implying is if more people were living by and promoting the essence of Jesus’s teachings we might live in a World where people actually had a shred of compassion for their fellow man. Instead we live in a World where everyone labels everyone else and all we have is hate and division.

I would never pretend to know the mind
of God and presume God gave us free will for a “reason”. Again, in my thinking, pretending to know the mind of God is probably the height of human hubris and possibly man’s greatest possible sin.

So what are you going to do. Are you going to give me a label or treat me like a priceless piece of art?

          • Henry Bellows

You talk of Jesus but clearly, you haven’t read the only book that’s actually about Him.

            (In no particular order)

            A) Jesus doesn’t want fans?

The Bible makes it real clear that if you’re not a fan of Jesus, you’re on your way to the lake of fire.

You can’t talk to God unless you go through His Son. If that’s not the basis for a fan club, then what is?

Jesus said that whoever is ashamed of Him before men, that person, will He be ashamed of before the Father on Judgement Day. So however big of a fan of Jesus you are, that’s how big of a fan He will be for you at your Judgement. So how big of a fan are you?

            Tit-for-tat. Get it?

            B) “I do not see us as “dumb animals”.”

Jesus compared us to sheep. Sheep are, in fact, animals. Also, they’re not very smart.

Make of that what you will.

            C) “I think it may be the height of human hubris to pretend to know when God is actually participating in the affairs of man.”

The Bible says that the prayers of a righteous man availeth much.

How would that be possible if God didn’t answer prayers, which is most defintely “participating in the affairs of man”?

            D) “I like to think of us like a priceless piece of art and each of us should be treated with extreme reverence.”

Really? That’s what you think? How original.

“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

            You know who said that?

That Jesus guy you keep talking about.

It’s pretty much the same thing only… He expressed it about 2000 before you did.

            E) “….if more people were living by and promoting the essence of Jesus’s teachings we might live in a World where people actually have a shred of compassion for their fellow man.”

You’re right. So when will you start?

          • df NJ

I do not have to “start” because I am not a fan of Jesus. My faith in God is stronger than yours. I do not believe it is necessary to believe the way you do and still enter the Kingdom of God. My faith in God includes the idea that everyone is allowed to enter the gates of heaven regardless of our earthly sins. This is because our God will use his omnipotent powers of forgiveness. And if I am wrong how bad can Hell actually be. It can’t be worse than living in New Jersey. Besides, a God who is not capable of infinite love and understanding of my peephole existence is probably not a God worth worshiping.

“Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.” Luke 17:21. The kingdom of God does not require me to think the way you think, to pray the way you pray, or speak the way you speak. The kingdom of God is not under your control. The kingdom of God is within all of us as stated by Jesus. So now what are you going to do? You know you want to label me.

Go ahead, call me a label and dismiss my point of view with a wave of your hand. Or, show me you are capable of compassion by accepting my faith in God does require a little extra effort.

          • df NJ

RE: “Really? That’s what you think? How original.
‘Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.’ You know who said that?
That Jesus guy you keep talking about.”

This reminds me of something I heard with regards to Caliph Omar who destroyed the great library at Alexandria.

“Omar ordered him to destroy the library on grounds that if what is in the library agrees with the contents of the Qur’an, then it is redundant. And, if the contents of the library do not agree with the Qur’an, then such contents are heretic.”

If you cannot teach the teachings of Jesus with your own words then maybe you are just a fan of Jesus and all you can do is quote his teachings.

          • Timmyz

How do we know what is evil? Sometimes what is considered evil is just an attempt to do what we think is good. Other times we act out of emotions. Like when we rob someone and they resist so we shoot them, we just want money to pay for our drugs which are very expensive and when they resist it makes us mad.

O king, you were looking and saw a great object.

The object was large and very bright and it was standing in front of you.
It filled you with fear and wonder as you looked at it.

The object’s head was made of fine gold. Its breast and arms were made of silver.
Its stomach and thighs were made of brass.
Its legs were made of iron, and its feet were part iron and part clay.

While you were watching, a rock was cut out, but not by human hands. It fell and hit the large object on its feet of iron and clay, and crushed them. Then the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver and the gold were broken to pieces at the same time and became like dust on the grain-floor in the summer.

The wind carried the dust away so nothing was to be found.

But the stone that hit the large object became a large mountain and filled the whole earth.

This was the dream. Now we will tell the king what it means.

      • GSOB

You, O king, are the king of kings.
The God of heaven has given you the nation, the power, the strength and the honor.
In every place where people live, or the animals of the field, or the birds of the air, He has given them to you and has caused you to rule over them all. You are the head of gold.

After you there will be another nation that is not as great as yours.

A third nation of brass will come, which will rule over all the earth.

Then there will be a fourth nation, as strong as iron. Iron crushes and breaks all things. So, like iron breaks things to pieces, this nation will crush and break all the others.

Just as you saw the feet and toes made of part clay and part iron, it will be a divided nation.
But it will have some of the strength of iron, just as you saw the iron mixed with the clay.

As the toes of the feet were made of part iron and part clay, so some of the nation will be strong and part of it will be weak.
As you saw the iron mixed with clay, they will try to join with one another. But they will not stay together any more than iron mixes with clay.

In the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a nation which will never be destroyed. And it will never be taken by another people. It will crush and put an end to all these nations, but it will last forever.

You saw how a stone was cut out of the mountain by no human hands and how it crushed the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold.

The great God has shown the king what will happen in the future.

        The dream is true.

And I have given you its true meaning.

          Matthew 6:5-15
          Living Bible (TLB)

          “And now about prayer.
When you pray, don’t be like the hypocrites who pretend piety by praying publicly on street corners and in the synagogues where everyone can see them.
Truly, that is all the reward they will ever get. But when you pray, go away by yourself, all alone, and shut the door behind you and pray to your Father secretly and your Father, who knows your secrets, will reward you.

“Don’t recite the same prayer over and over as the heathen do who think prayers are answered only by repeating them again and again.
Remember, your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask Him!

          “Pray along these lines:
‘Our Father in heaven, we honor your holy name. We ask that your kingdom will come now. May your will be done here on earth, just as it is in heaven.
Give us our food again today, as usual, and forgive us our sins, just as we have forgiven those who have sinned against us.
Don’t bring us into temptation but deliver us from the Evil One.
          Amen.

We didn’t exit the recession in 2008. It has only worsened. However, it has been disguised with trillions in bail outs and stimulus (QE). Current near zero interest rate means banks and financial institutions have not had to pay savers on holdings, and turned debt into further stimulus.
Easy credit with much extended terms continue to inflate the debt bubble. People who use record DOW and the rise in the stock market, as a barometer of a “good economy” are either delusional or complicit. Painless debt and stimulus has inflated the stock and bond markets artificially and that bubble must eventually see a major correction (pop!!).
It’s a fool’s paradise and those left holding the bag when correction hits, will feel great pain.

I’ve wondered if God would use his omnipotent powers of forgiveness to allow everyone through the gates of heaven to experience eternal bliss regardless of our Earthly sins. It makes no difference to an omnipotent God. The question is how strong is our faith in an omnipotent God using his powers of infinite forgiveness? Since I live in New Jersey, I think I will need divine intervention to get into heaven.

    • jakartaman

I am afraid you are a part of the problem.
You along with the elitist of every generation in history had the answers – and were and are being proved wrong.

Must be because most people believe in God.

” The question is how strong is our faith in an omnipotent God using his powers of infinite forgiveness?”
Nope. You are an evil sinner. That’s the problem we all share. God’s salvation is comprehensive, powerful and includes the faith we don’t have, prepared for those He elected in Jesus Christ before the foundation of the world…. to be holy, without sin and before Him in love..applied to the elect by the Spirit.

      • unbubbleslayr

Humans are animals just like cheeta’s. Animals act based on DNA, DNA tells us to survive and gives us a blueprint to do so. Every decision we make is based on what DNA wants us to do. There is no free will. If I choose not to eat, I die. Is that what you call free will? All our actions are due to DNA not God. God was created by story tellers because they don’t know what science is.

The borders where suppose to be closed after Regans “last” amnesty was granted. It was Daddy Bush that didn’t follow thru, followed by Clinton then Jr. Bush onto Obama that haven’t followed thru and even Jebby Bush will leave the borders open. See the same agenda from one party to the next. Even after 9/11 and the war that followed the borders remained open.

Also I will add “The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.” Using money rightly glorifies God. Lusting for it does not.

  • Nemnor

You stated – “…2008 was just the warm up act… …The main event is still coming, and it is going to be extraordinarily painful…”.

I posit that, the main root cause for the worsening economic situation in the USA and the World is – the world-wide Capitalist system itself – which is now decadent, and is NOT able to generate long-term recovery by economic means alone.

However there are those who look at the decaying Capitalist system and mistakenly refer to it as “socialism”. They are really looking at varying forms of “managed capitalism” or “state capitalism” or “directed capitalism”, etc (and falsely label these as “socialism”).

Nevertheless, theses varying form of CAPITALISM (which some erroneously labeled as “socialism”) are ALL still ESSENTIALLY Capitalism – and especially so because, in the economy of EVERY country in Europe and in The Americas (the “West” – as some put it), the means of production and distribution of goods and services are MOSTLY PRIVATELY owned.

This is a basic TRUTH about the economy in EVERY country in Europe and The Americas (in fact, virtually every part of the Globe) – they are ALL basically/essentially CAPITALIST economies for CENTURIES now. And it is CAPITALISM that is now not a sustainable system (anywhere in the World) – as the system has reached a stage of general over-production – which can NOT be solved within Capitalism by economic means alone.

  • Michael Dubin

    Michael,
‘The part you left out is that European countries don’t have their own central banks that can create money to buy their debt, and the USA does. Rates on US debt are low BECAUSE of QE, not despite it. The Fed is creating money to buy our junk bonds that other countries don’t want nearly as much as they did before. China is the biggest US debt holder, but they have not bought any net new debt in 4 years. Without QE, the US would have to go on the open market and beg foreigners to buy bonds, and the interest rate would be much higher, in order to attract buyers.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.”
    ― Margaret Thatcher

    • df NJ

I think it was the lack of banking regulation enforcement because of Republican ideology that did the most damage. I don’t think “socialism” really exists in this country. Google “Inequality in America” and look at the graph for socialism in the video. I think we are about as far away from the “dreaded socialism” as we can get and still have a currency having any shred of value at all.

      • libsarescum

Wrong!! The “crash” was caused by government forcing banks (Carter&Clinton) to issue mortgages to “poor people” with bad credit, loans could not be repaid and – Vuola!! The U.S. spends 71 % of its budget on entitlements, that is socialism. BTW 18 trillion in debt and counting, and 8 trillion just added by the current regime in 6 years.

        • df NJ

Despite your Republican delusions, Greenspan all the executive authority he needed to reign in the banks.

“You had the authority to prevent irresponsible lending practices that led to the subprime mortgage crisis. You were advised to do so by many others,” said Representative Henry A. Waxman of California, chairman of the committee. “Do you feel that your ideology pushed you to make decisions that you wish you had not made?”

Mr. Greenspan conceded: “Yes, I’ve found a flaw. I don’t know how significant or permanent it is. But I’ve been very distressed by that fact.”

Greenspan admits his laissez faire ideology caused him NOT to act. Just keep blaming “democRATS” for everything that is bad. But despite your delusions, both Republicans and Democrats only serve the rich.

        • df NJ

RE: “The U.S. spends 71 % of its budget on entitlements, that is socialism”

The problems with our country are not rocket science. The lobbyists force the politicians to pass laws creating cartels and monopolies in exchange for campaign financing. It doesn’t matter what you pay in taxes. What does matter is the purchasing power of your take home pay. So if we abolish the IRS tomorrow and all state taxes we will still have the same level of poverty and misery. The monopolies and cartels would simply raise their pricing on goods and services to absorb any slack in the system.

Republicans are just as bad as Democrats. All government is a boondoggle for billionaires.

Government by the rich, for the rich, screw the worker.

        • df NJ

          RE: “71%”

          Based on 2014 numbers:

          Interest on debt: 7%

          Welfare: 11%

          Social Security: 24%

          Medicare/Medicaid: 25%

          Defense: 17%

          All other: 13%

All military spending is pure socialism.

Hi!, Patrons Of The Economic Collapse Et. Al.:
“PEACE I LEAVE WITH YOU; NOT AS THE WORLD GIVES, BUT A PEACE THAT SURPASSES ALL HUMAN UNDERSTANDINGS! During His earthly reign, He was partially focused upon the lack of PEACE, as presented by the Holy Roman Empire focused upon taking over the whole world and subjugating everyone under their earthly powers of earthly fear wasn’t He? Many people felt helpless and hopeless didn’t they dear reader but didn’t He offer them renewed hope? He said: “Fear NOT little flock; for it is your heavenly Father’s GOOD PLEASURE to give you His kingdom!” “Ask that you might receive; that your JOY will be full!” Into a hopeless and fearful world He brought the light of newness of life represented by the dropping out of fear and instead lives full of JOY didn’t He? When His disciples inquired of Him what would be the signs of the END OF THE WORLD, didn’t he reply that, when we hear of wars and rumors of wars the end is not yet? Will not His kingdom come; when His JOY abounds replacing fears? Please let US each humbly remember that in Romans St. Paul tells US that ALL have sinned and fallen short of the glory of GOD didn’t he? On the road to Damascus, during a period of his life when Saul was persecuting new Christian believers even to death, Jesus asked him: “Saul, why do you persecute me and this lead to Saul’s inner man introspective interrogation of his personal motives which changed the world when St. Paul began to form the New Testament Churches winning willing souls to Christ’s eternal commandment for all of us to love one another as he loves us. Won’t OUR keeping His commandment for US to love one another as He loves US lead to the removal of all fears replaced by His abundance of JOY dear reader; for yours is the KINGOM; the POWER & the GLORY forever…..AMEN!? Without LOVE it says in 1st Corinthians 13 that we have become as sounding brass and tinkling symbols does it not dear reader? “I of myself can do nothing; for it is the FATHER (LOVE) dwelling within me that does the works!”

Gas may be $50 but minimum wage will also be $80.

    • Randy

80 FRN per hour minimum wage?!?!  You wish!  HOW are market forces going to be able to drive up wages even one tenth as fast as the hyperinflation will be going?  In 1921 Germany, a 50,000 Papiermark note  could buy you a house, but in 1923, it wouldn’t even buy you a loaf of bread! Have you ever heard of a union contract for wages and benefits?  Did you know that they come up for renewal in the IBEW every 3 years or so?  And that once the terms of the contract are locked in, they stay that way until the next cycle?  So if minimum wages at a burger joint are 80 FRN per hour that’s one thing because those are all open shops.  But the closed shops are another matter indeed.  Will someone who works for an electric company work for only 45 FRN per hour when he or she can get a job flipping burgers that pays 80?  Are you really thinking this stuff through, or are you desperate to find something to grab hold of to help keep you calm?  When all of those men and women leave their jobs making only what the contract allows to get a job flipping burgers, then who will be left in the highly dangerous jobs that  make burger flipping possible??  Or do all of those eateries supply themselves with all of the stuff they sell out of their back parking lot and their gas and electricity too?  And all of their workers live just down the street?

        Wages keep up with inflation.

        • Randy

No they don’t!  Where do you live, under a rock?  It’s because the rate of the decrease in the perceived purchasing power of a fiat paper currency (the true definition of inflation) is not being kept up with is why we have such a decrease in our standard of living!  Why is it that a household now needs two wage earners to have a decent life?  It’s why you can’t retire after a life of saving your earnings and live comfortably any longer! If you want to have your own delusions that everything is OK, fine, peachy, just great, then OK, but don’t try to convince others of something that simply is not true! Randy

Well Sherlock, I said gas may be $50 but minimum wage will be $80, that is only 50% higher than gas. Right now it is over 100%. People who receive Cost of Living increases will keep pace with inflation, that does not necessarily include general wage increases.

Oh, you’ve got some kind of crystal ball that tells you what the minimum wages will be in regard to the price of a gallon of gas?  From where do you get these totally ridiculous ideas?  Does someone spoon feed them to you or what?  In case you didn’t realize it yet, with the average price of gas where I live being about 3.50 a gallon, and minimum wage being about 10.00 per hour, that’s a ratio of 2.86, and 80 divided by 50 yields 1.6, but all of that is just useless figuring because no one knows what the actual numbers will be!  And your fuzzy math leaves a lot to be desired, that’s for sure!  50% of 50 is 25, so 25 plus 50 is 75, NOT 80!!  You must be the product of the modern day public fool system, right? The possibility and likelihood of there even being a minimum wage law in effect in the next several months is highly doubtful at best!  You think that there will just be a few distortions and anomalies here and there, nothing much to worry about, when the stark reality will be that you will be living in a world of desolation with no way out of it. How do you manage to keep up with the COLAs with a fiat paper currency system that is always in a state of failure, moving ever closer to a complete breakdown from the very first day that it is implemented?  It’s true!  In case you didn’t know this yet, if you count up the number of fiat paper currencies that have failed over the last several hundred years, you will find over 600 of them before you even get out of the letter B of the alphabet!  How is THAT any kind of a record to stand on?  It’s a dismal one!  I see, you think that the USD is impervious to any failures because this is America, and stuff like that can’t happen here, correct? If we didn’t have a fiat paper currency system that was continually moving in the direction of complete failure, we wouldn’t even NEED to have a COLA!  The COLA is just a poor way to try to extend the lifespan of a fiat paper currency system for the ones who cannot work at anything useful for the society.  I see, no one ever told you that before, and you weren’t smart enough to figure it out on your own, right?  Just how often do you think a COLA is implemented?  On a daily or at the least a weekly basis??   You have to go a whole seven days to get another COLA?  How can you keep up with inflation like that? I think it’s pretty obvious by now that you haven’t a clue at all about anything financial, so you need to go sit in the corner and be quiet while you learn a few things from those who do know.
