The Cashless Society Cometh: European Nations Such As Sweden And Denmark Are ‘Eradicating Cash’

Cashless Society - Public DomainDid you know that 95 percent of all retail sales in Sweden are cashless?  And did you know that the government of Denmark has a stated goal of “eradicating cash” by the year 2030?  All over the world, we are seeing a relentless march toward a cashless society, and nowhere is this more true than in northern Europe.  In Sweden, hundreds of bank branches no longer accept or dispense cash, and thousands of ATM machines have been permanently removed.  At this point, bills and coins only account for just 2 percent of the Swedish economy, and many stores no longer take cash at all.  The notion of a truly “cashless society” was once considered to be science fiction, but now we are being told that it is “inevitable”, and authorities insist that it will enable them to thwart criminals, terrorists, drug runners, money launderers and tax evaders.  But what will we give up in the process?

In Sweden, the transition to a cashless society is being enthusiastically embraced.  The following is an excerpt from a New York Times article that was published on Saturday…

Parishioners text tithes to their churches. Homeless street vendors carry mobile credit-card readers. Even the Abba Museum, despite being a shrine to the 1970s pop group that wrote “Money, Money, Money,” considers cash so last-century that it does not accept bills and coins.

Few places are tilting toward a cashless future as quickly as Sweden, which has become hooked on the convenience of paying by app and plastic.

To me, giving money in church electronically seems so bizarre.  But it is starting to happen here in the United States, and in Sweden some churches collect most of their tithes and offerings this way

During a recent Sunday service, the church’s bank account number was projected onto a large screen. Worshipers pulled out cellphones and tithed through an app called Swish, a payment system set up by Sweden’s biggest banks that is fast becoming a rival to cards.

Other congregants lined up at a special “Kollektomat” card machine, where they could transfer funds to various church operations. Last year, out of 20 million kronor in tithes collected, more than 85 percent came in by card or digital payment.

And of course it isn’t just Sweden that is rapidly transitioning to a cashless society.  Over in Denmark, government officials have a goal “to completely do away with paper money” by the year 2030

Sweden is not the only country interested in eradicating cash. Its neighbor, Denmark, is also making great strides to lessen the circulation of banknotes in the country.

Two decades ago, roughly 80 percent of Danish citizens relied on hard cash while shopping. Fast forward to today, that figure has dropped dramatically to 25 percent.

We’re interested in getting rid of cash,” said Matas IT Director Thomas Grane. “The handling, security and everything else is expensive; so, definitely we want to push digital payments, and that’s of course why we introduced mobile payments to help this process.”

Eventually, establishments may soon have the right to reject cash- a practice that is common in Sweden. Government officials have set a 2030 deadline to completely do away with paper money.

Could you imagine a world where you couldn’t use cash for anything?

This is the direction things are going – especially in Europe.

As I have written about previously, cash transactions of more than 2,500 euros have already been banned in Spain, and France and Italy have both banned all cash transactions of more than 1,000 euros.

Little by little, cash is being eradicated, and what we have seen so far is just the beginning.  417 billion cashless transactions were conducted in 2014, and the final number for 2015 is projected to be much higher.

Banks like this change, because it enables them to make more money due to the fees that they collect from credit cards and debit cards.  And governments like this change because electronic payments enable them to watch, track and monitor what we are all doing much more easily.

These days, very rarely does anyone object to what is happening.  Instead, most of us just seem to accept that this change is “inevitable”, and we are being assured that it will be for the better.  And no matter where in the world you go, the propaganda seems to be the same.  For example, the following comes from an Australian news source

AND so we prepare to turn the page to fresh year — 2016, a watershed year in which Australia will accelerate towards becoming a genuine cashless society.

The cashless society will be a new world free of $1 and $2 coins, or $5 or $10 bank notes. A new world in which all commercial transactions, from buying an i-pad or a hamburger to playing the poker machines, purchasing a newspaper, paying household bills or picking up the dry-cleaning, will be paid for electronically.

And in that same article the readers are told that Australia will likely be “a fully cashless society” by 2022…

Research by Westpac Bank predicts Australia will be a fully cashless society by 2022 — just six years away. Already half of all commercial payments are now made electronically.

Even in some of the poorest areas on the entire globe we are seeing a move toward a cashless society.  In 2015, banks in India made major progress on this front, and income tax rebates are being considered by the government as an incentive “to encourage people to move away from cash transactions“.

Would a truly cashless society reduce crime and make all of our lives much more efficient?

Maybe.

But what would we have to give up?

To me, America is supposed to be a place where we can go where we want and do what we want without the government constantly monitoring us.  If people choose to use cashless forms of payment that is one thing, but if we are all required to go to such a system I fear that it could result in the loss of tremendous amounts of freedom and liberty.

And it is all too easy to imagine a world where a government-sponsored form of “identification” would be required to use any form of electronic payment.  This would give the government complete control over who could use “the system” and who could not.  The potential for various forms of coercion and tyranny in such a scenario is obvious.

What would you do if you could not buy, sell, get a job or open a bank account without proper “identification” someday?  What you simply give in to whatever the government was demanding of you at the time even if it went against your fundamental beliefs?

That is certainly something to think about.

Many will cheer as the world makes a rapid transition to a cashless society, but I will not.  I believe that a truly cashless system would open the door for great evil, and I don’t want any part of it.

    I have long suspected that “The Mark of the Beast” as referenced in Revelation 12 is part and parcel of a cashless society. It is likely some sort of biometric identification that links many data variables to include digital currency.

      Mr Smith, I know you and others here have an interest in these things. Just wanted to pass on a different point of view that one we normally think of when discussing the “mark” of the beast. Beasts are often referred to in Scripture as unregenerated man, as both beasts of the field and Adam were created on the 6th day. But Adam differed in that he had the Spirit breathed into him. As we learn more about Scripture our understanding will probably change. God is way smart! The following is a partially redacted old email I saved. This doesn’t mean the chip will not also be part of the beast solution but that is not what God will be focused on! A wise man once said, “You can’t serve God and mammon!”

      I think you’ve accurately summarized my thoughts on the (lack of) mark (which is a tav) in Ezekiel. Nehemiah’s comment concerning buying and selling on Shabbat also imply that it’s action that distinguishes one from another. When you consider that Nehemiah had to close the gates of Jerusalem on Shabbat and the sabbaths of the moedim (LORD’s Festivals) to merchants, it makes sense that the New Jerusalem will not need her gates closed…those within are not able to buy and sell on
      Shabbat because they have no desire to do so.
      No need to close the gate to a transformed heart.

      The bondservants of Yeshua are sealed at the conclusion of the Sixth Seal in Revelation, suggesting that these are those who will keep the Shabbat and Sukkot. Those without that seal (which corresponds to the tav in Ezekiel) of Yeshua’s signature would appear to be marked by the Beast and by the sorrow for the destruction of Babylon’s merchandise. Genesis is really the key: man vs beast, woman vs serpent, Kain (Cain-beast of acquisition) vs Abel (vapor, spirit), Esau (beast) vs Jacob (spirit), etc.

    This made me laugh because many years ago my brother and I talked about this very thing. We said one day there would be credit card terminals at church where we could swipe a card and enter the amount that we wanted to give. And now it’s a reality.

    This is worth a rebellion. So, for example, if I want to pay my plumber, now I need to go through the hassle of using PayPal, or give him my account number? What if I do not WANT to have a bank account? So much for the FREEDOM our ancestors fought for. These control freak dictators suck.       I remember talking with a few co-workers ( all women for what it’s worth) about how outraged I was ( and validated) when it was proven that the USA spies on its citizens, reads their emails and records and listens to phone conversations.
      I was stunned, and sadly also enlightened, that not a single one found anything wrong with the government invading privacy.
      Assault on the first amendment rights of speech, religion and lawful gatherings/assembling–assaults constantly to try and end completely the 2nd amendment, assaults on the 4th amendments, judgment and even death sentencing without due process…..NOBODY is REBELLING !
      Cashless is coming and the masses will conform–and those who don’t?-they will be marginalized or flat out impoverished or imprisoned.

        Are you people kidding? Paypal is the most CONVENIENT thing going! No need for a buddy to get to the ATM to pay you back. No need to make change for your customer. No ATM limitations. Instant -presto! A swipe of the card and you’re done! (2pointsomething percent fee) I have one of those free little triangular swipe gadgets myself and it works great!
        Rebels will always make alternate forms of currency if they are so inclined.. just look at BitCoin.
        I’ve gone without having cash around quite often. Cashless doesn’t scare me so much.

            It won’t be 2% though will it? It will be a negative 2% or more, and you will rather spend it than to pay to have it forcibly stored and plundered for you.

            It is how they are going to stimulate economic activity – like you’re not spending it all already. It will not work to stimulate economic activity. If QE didn’t, neither will this.

            The designers know this, and that economic activity will in the end be forced through the end of a gun just as it was in the Soviet Union where there was no economic activity because the people naturally decided to lay down and pretty much do nothing since work was of no benefit to them. The designers of this system know this will happen but this is not what it is all about – in the end, the designers are interested only in your soul.

            Going cashless is their only option to retain power over the financial system – they can’t raise interest rates without setting off the derivatives weapon of financial mass destruction, so they must go cashless and have negative interest rates. They will totally control and enslave everyone.

            This is not by accident, it is all according to plan.

            Are you sure about that?—what happens when they stop paying miniscule interest ( nobody pays 2% that I know of anyhow on a simple savings- the rate is .o15%) and then start charging you to keep money in their banks?
            How about when employers are forced to deposit all paychecks thru direct deposit and then the bank charges a 2 or 3% fee for it?– it is coming and people like you make it soooo easy for the overlords.

            something similar has happened here in Slovenia ( i know, we are unimportant god forsaken country in southern part of central Europe), when has clever guys at central bank decided that all shareholders must give up their shares at bank, since it will change owner (from private bank it was converted to national bank) and that they must first infuse some money into bank to bail it out.Not only bail in, but robbing share holders….its just pure madness. interest rates? that was last thing that those who had acc on that bank thought of…

            I have travelled through Slovenia a couple of years back. Thank you for sharing this information. I am following the banking situation in Europe closely and just in the last few months there have been 4 failed banks in Italy, 2 in Portugal and 1 in Austria. We have also heard that a German Bank is laying off thousands of staff. France has made it a criminal offence to write or even talk about any bank that might be experiencing problems. Then there is all the corruption in Spanish banks, these are not good signs.

            The bank aren’t paying any interest. Many speculate that negative interest rates are coming soon. One would be foolish to leave their money in the bank. In an effort to alleviate the potential of a mass run on the banks, TPTB are trying to eliminate cash.

            Last time i’ve been in local bank i had enough time to read posts about secured wealth on acc. The funny thing is, that bank only guarantee (atm , cant say for time after econ. collapse) up to 100k €.Anything above that limit… unsecured money on acc.And what if they lower the limit to 50k? 30k?10K? what about all those who have a bit more money then rest? not all of them are criminals….

            I have paypal, I have a debit card with an RFID to just wave at the scanner instead of swiping and I pay 90% of my bills online–but I want the FREEDOM to have a yard sale, drop a few bucks in the offering plate or salvation army kettle, pay a neighborhood kid $20 to shovel my driveway snow without having the government record the damn transaction!

When do we demand our elected officials at all levels start acting on our behalf as “public servants” rather than the 5 year olds they selfishly act like now? When do we start teaching our own children real history, real math, real English, and how to manage finance? The public school at all levels up thru University Graduate Programs does none of this… Just askin’. Should I continue?

          “Convenience” isn’t at issue here, Sunny. Our personal affairs, in this case our finances, should be no one’s business but our own. By eliminating cash and forcing everyone to have a bank account, our government can monitor who gets how much, where it comes from, where it goes, etc. This is an extreme loss of privacy. Add to this, the IRS can then place taxes and withdraw from your account without your knowledge or say so. At the worst extreme, you can be made totally indigent in a few keystrokes and be completely excluded from operating in society.

          On an upside, going cashless will only INCREASE in those thus excluded the use of barter and the demand for private money; private money based on real commodities. Private, commodity based money allows one to increase his own wealth through their own labor and industry; i.e., gold panning, silver and copper mining, etc., depending on the base commodity.

          Like you, I’m not worried about the world going cashless. I am, however, concerned about the police state that will come about because of moves toward tighter government control and overwatch. I should think you would be as well.

          Even though they have they already taken down most of the U.S.A. – our Constitutional rights are gone through the Patriot Act, NDAA, etc., a surveillance stasi style police state is in place, they have bought the government, the treasury, and have 95% of the zombie sheeple right where they want them – but they’re not going to take over the U.S.A.. All of the progress they have made will be reversed.

          The showdown will come when they attempt to confiscate the firearms of this 5%. We will easily prevail and are lying in wait for them. Bring it Godless weaklings.

            That’s absolutely right. Between 5-10% actually inserted themselves fully, and went all in against the British, and against great odds. Same back in the day of Moses and the Israelites fleeing Egypt. Only about 10% had the testosterone to join the movement. It’s the way it is with anything risky, there are only a great minority that act with true vision and right morals. Those whose motto is from the Founding Fathers…give me liberty or give me death. Many other ways to,say this as well, but only one way to do it. Do it with prayer, loyalty, and conviction to the cause of freedom. I’ve recently watch “The Sound of Music”, even the Catholic Nuns got involved with doing the right thing at the end of the movie. Very risky for them, yet the right thing to do in Gods eyes. I’m sure He forgave them. Remember, when a government goes bad, goes corrupt, goes illegal, it’s NOT our right to revolt and replace them, it’s our DUTY!

The reason why we’re in this mess is largely in part to all those people who are complacent enough to say “it is what it is”, instead of standing up and doing something about it. They will have 100% control over everyone and there will be an extreme amount of violence and killing when they attempt to force those who don’t comply in places like South America, Central America, and The U.S.A.. There will also be plenty of violence in Sweden, Denmark, Israel, even Switzerland when they attempt to go from 99% compliance to 100% and force the last holdouts to comply.

In an ideal highly evolved world there is no cash only forms of credit and all ourt necessities of life are freely given us. Again, in this world the opposite is true. Most if not every ploy by major and indeed minor planetary governments is to enslave people all the more. A cashless society is a dangerous form of socialism, or maybe fascism. The way things are right now it would be highly highly dangerous to go this route. I very strongly advise all who read this article, to have cash, enough for at least six months basic living costs.

    I would trust electronic if there was a very specified, very unique payment/transfer method exclusive to money, and there was still a cash and/or commodity option. Right now, paying electronically is like putting your money in a paper airplane with all your private info and a note saying “Please don’t steal this” and hoping it glides to where it was intended.

    Physical cash, backed by precious metals/energy, and can be exchanged for precious metals on demand, is still the best option.

      Every call you make is recorded as to when you made it, to whom you made it, how long you talked, etc. And if they want to listen in on your calls, no problem. Every transaction you make with your credit card, debit card, etc, is already recorded. You cannot make a move these days with out some type of paper trail being made. It’s all just rock and roll. You still have death to look forward to. Once you are dead, they can’t mess with you.

    The “cashless society” isn’t about eradicating crime or stopping terrorism or ending drug trafficking; it is about closing off one of the last remaining alternatives for freedom from the global banking-financial cartel. It is also about comprehensive, real-time tracking of all financial transactions.
    Cash, because it is a physical object which can be bought, sold and traded outside of banks and the financial system as a whole, is a threat to the cartel. Precious metals and other media of exchange are threats as well. Cash is also threatening to big brother, since transactions which occur away from the all-seeing eye of electronic finance are not as easily tracked.
    Once the physical medium of exchange is gone, once cash has been rendered obsolete and ultimately outlawed, then one’s assets will be nothing more than electrons moving to-and-fro from one server and terminal to another – digits in a computer. If you displease the authorities or powers-that-be, your access will be cut off or your account zeroed out.

    It’s going to be hard to do anything. Because everything we believe in we communicate though the Internet which is being monitored. And keys words hit certain red flags and they will know everything and they will act accordingly. I don’t see no real win where the people can make it. Money runs everything and if they take that they take everything from us. There has got to be someway to break this cycle. There’s not enough people to barter to make a difference.

    A friend told me he recently bought $500 in various gift cards in cash at a store. He had to show ID to do this! Apparently he was told that this is done because drug dealers and others buy gift cards with large amounts of cash.
    Too bad we don’t have to show ID to vote…..

    Today we have Bitcoin, prepaid creditcards and giftcards – to mention some options that comes to mind.

    Anyhow, those who believe there will be less crime in a cashless World has to believe in all fairytails there is :-)

    I’m gonna use cash as long as possible, and at the same time look and learn about options thats not possible to track or watch.

    The biggest problem the way I see it is if the banks has to close and its not possible to use any cards – the word “bail-in” comes to mind…

You take your cash to a bitcoin dealer 2. He charges you some fee in addition to your (anonymity fee.) 3. Bitcoin becomes the barter system. Is this correct?

        There would not be any cash to bring to any bitcoin dealer..! So you have to do that online from your bank account to your bitcoin account. No middle man that charge any fees..!

        It will be possible to track that you have transferred from your bank account, but not what, when or where you have used your bitcoin money. Thats they way I understand it, but I might be wrong! I don’t have any bitcoin account / wallet yet, so don’t take my word for it.

    I do not agree that this is a problem. I have been cashless for the last 3 years and I do not feel any loss of liberty or other scare that Michael is trying to whip up here this time. Spoken like a true conservative, the fact of the matter is if you do not like how a business conducts its business, you are free to go elsewhere. Conservatives like Michael should appreciate that in a free enterprise system, if the customers seek cash payment alternatives en masse, then the businesses will bend over backward to accept payment however the customer prefers to pay. If companies are ditching cash, it is because in their self interest they are seeing less use of it, and adherence to some quaint romantic concept that Michael is advocating here, will not be honored by businesses. They will not care about some romantic old school view that cash should always be accepted if electronic payment accomplishes the same objective, privacy concerns notwithstanding.

Suddenly, you can’t even buy a newspaper or you can buy this but … you can’t buy that unless you go to the bank and get special permission from the “monitor”. A van can park outside your house and using infrared cameras can record everything going on in the house. Do you think the cable box is benign? This is no longer the stuff of Buck Rogers.             The purpose of Gods book THE BIBLE is to point the way to salvation not REFORM a society. A person who has experienced Gods gift of salvation and FREEDOM from the SLAVERY of SIN will realize that enslaving another human being is wrong. That would be The Bibles prescription for ending slavery !.

            Today there are over 27 million people in slavery to the sex trade, forced labor, inheritable property etc.

            The Bible does not expressly forbid Slavery in The Old Testament as the slavery of the older times was not race or skin color based but more economics based. And as I said before God was not trying to change a society but bring SALVATION.

            Lastly you mention the black people and the Bible in the same plague breath that you usually use. Do a little research Black people are 83 % CHRISTIAN across this land.             Our banking system is insolvent and has been for the last 7 years.

            You live in NJ I have a friend living in New Brunswick NJ and has not paid his home mortgage in 6 years. House was in the 600K range.

            Another NJ friend Wall Township was almost 3 years no mortgage payment. House was in the 700K range.

            I believe that there are many millions of houses that are non performing mortgages. But the lawn is cut the lights are on and there is no FORECLOSURE SIGN on the lawn. The old rules of banking were tossed about 7 years ago.

        I think you misunderstood my point. With cash, there can be some level of anonymity. If everything is piped through a singular centralized system, then that privacy is totally gone. Now someone knows anything and everything you purchase. Maybe they don’t like you supporting certain political parties. Maybe they wonder why you’d want to buy ammo for weekend target practice with buddies. Maybe they think you should be watched (or removed from society) because you support a specific talk show host. The point is, once they know what you do with your money, they know how you think.

          Well, most people believe people should not fear their governments but governments should fear their people. The problem is if stinger missiles, 50-caliber machine guns, and bazookas were legal there would not be an airline industry. We can’t defend ourselves from our government. I don’t know what the answer is to make people more valuable in the eyes of the government. I think most people in this country think the people living in poverty are sinners and deserve to suffer because Christ suffered on the cross. We live in the land of suffering. Suffering is what God wants.

            Because it gives a few individuals total power over society and each individual within it. If they don’t like you they can cancel your card. If a doctor wants you to stop drinking or smoking your card can have a stop put on it that prohibits you from buying those items. If your dietician thinks you need to lose weight a stop can be put on your card to prevent you buying Big Macs and sodas. I could go on all day about the powers you are giving to other people. Soon all your decisions will be made for you and you will just be a piece of protoplasm unable to exercise any free will.

            And don’t think you can fight against anything. All freedom is basically economic. If the government doesn’t like you they can destroy you simply by cancelling your card.

    As a Christian, I know that there will be a ‘great falling away’ according to the Bible but the rate is absolutely mind-blowing. Yesterday, I was in church with my girlfriend and I cannot believe how much the pulpit has turned from God’s Word.
    First, the first song was a rap song which you could not understand followed by nearly 30 minutes of music that would drift between New Age and contemporary music. Second, there was 3 separate videos of church members that was displaying works and how the pastor raved about these people doing this. Third, the pastor spent the whole sermon bragging about people and having them come up on stage. I think he mentioned one scripture in the entire sermon.
    The churches in this country no longer follow Christ. The pulpit is nothing more than a feel good psychobabble that has nothing to do with what the Word of God says. 9/11 was God telling the churches you going in the wrong direction but unfortunately, churches have turned a deaf ear to His Word.

        I have actually done that. One church I went to the preacher started to screaming and hollering and he walked by a woman and he touched her and she passed out. I told my girlfriend it was a fraud because she laid on the floor for the rest of the service and it was only about 1/2 way through it. Churches in this country have changed so much that they are hardly recognizable by God.

    It is pretty much a lot like that now. I always pay cash when buying food but no one else does. It angers me because I have to wait on all of them, with cash I am gone in a matter of Seconds. It is the same thing in almost all transactions. Also if I have all these Gold Coins and Silver Coins what good are they going to be. Someone Enlighten me, Please

    Old fashion poker game with the guys on a Friday night?
    Going to store to pick up one item? Or two?
    Flea markets?
    Giving your kids an “allowance” ?
    Paying a toll, especially in a state you’re not from.
    Giving someone a few bucks for gas?
    Vending machines?
    Gum Machines?
    Putting money in a slot to get a cart at the airport?
    Giving spare change to a homeless person?
    Giving cash as a gift? Birthday? Graduation? Christmas? ETC…
    Hotel housekeeping? Concierge? Bell hop?
    Newspaper?

    Many more examples I’m sure I’m leaving out, you get the idea…

    Maybe become “cashless” someday for the big stuff.

    But, there are too many situations that will ALWAYS require cash.

    This makes me very angry and I will fight it any way I can. I hate electronic money and I love coins. 99% of my transactions are in cash and I get coins back. Luckily I live in the United States where the push as not been as hard but I keep seeing people pay with plastic and it drives me nuts.

    By doing all cash transactions I am sending my own little message that this is the way I want to pay. I found it funny when my local bar stopped taking credit cards. They only want cash. I don’t blame them. Why would you want to pay all those fees.

    I think along the way the dollar will collapse and we will go back to coin metals for payment. Damn nothing makes me so mad as what they are doing in Sweden/Denmark.

Gold and silver coin needs to be the money as it states so as to keep the criminals at bay. You want to give carte blanche, 100% control over the world to criminals!

    Everything they do leaves things FUBAR or totally destroyed – just look at the accomplishments of the U.S. Federal Government and the illegal and unconstitutional counterfeiters at the Federal Reserve. These types are pretty much the only type that winds up in government and banking, and you want to them to be in control of this power. It has already been proven that they have no business holding that power or any other. The only position for them actually is that of prisoner.

    Do you think they will be interested in the world living in freedom and in the pursuit of happiness? I know you do not believe that, making everything you had to say disingenuous.

    I see it already happening in the US — more and more young people are strictly using debit cards for all transactions. But I’m also seeing people swiping their cards without regard for what their bank balance is. The banks love it– I had one affluent client with $2,100 in bank fees in one year due to overdrafts. Two people I know had their debit accounts hacked and money stolen.
