The Global Famine Begins: UN Announces That The Worst Food Crisis Since World War II Is Happening Right Now

Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Google+Share on LinkedInShare on StumbleUponEmail this to someone

Horse Famine - Public DomainWe always knew that this would start happening.  Earlier this month, I wrote about the severe economic problems that are plaguing South America, but up to this point I have neglected to discuss the horrific famines that are breaking out all over Africa.  Right now there is a desperate need for food in South Sudan, Somalia, northeast Nigeria, Eritrea and Kenya.  And Yemen, even though it is not technically part of Africa, is being affected by many of the same factors that are crippling nations all over eastern Africa.  The United Nations says that more than 20 million people could die from starvation and disease if nothing is done.  When I write about economic collapse, this is the kind of thing that I am talking about, and we are starting to see alarming conditions spread across the globe.  Many believe that we could never possibly face this kind of food crisis in the western world, but unfortunately wishful thinking will only get you so far.

The United Nations was formed in 1945, and the UN has just announced that what we are facing this year is “the largest humanitarian crisis since the creation of the UN”.  The following comes from a CNN article entitled “20 million at risk of starvation in world’s largest crisis since 1945, UN says“…

“We stand at a critical point in history. Already at the beginning of the year we are facing the largest humanitarian crisis since the creation of the UN,” UN humanitarian chief Stephen O’Brien said Friday.

Now, more than 20 million people across four countries face starvation and famine. Without collective and coordinated global efforts, people will simply starve to death. Many more will suffer and die from disease.”

It would be hard to overstate the level of human suffering that we are witnessing in many parts of Africa at this moment.  In Somalia, the UN estimates that more than 6 million people are in desperate need of food aid

As Somalia inches closer to a calamitous famine, the prospect of utter devastation and colossal loss of human life is once again becoming an imminent reality. The humanitarian situation in Somalia is deteriorating by the day with up to 6.2 million people in need of urgent aid. People across Somalia have been forced to walk hundreds of miles in search of food, water and shelter- with women and children disproportionately affected. Over 300,000 children under the age of five are severely malnourished, with over 200,000 more children at risk of acute malnutrition.

In South Sudan, close to half the population is in dire need of assistance, and things have gotten so bad there that people will literally eat grass if they can find it

Across South Sudan more than one million children are believed to be acutely malnourished and UNICEF have said that if urgent aid does not reach them, many of them will die. “There is no food, we eat anything we can find,” one South Sudanese mother told ITV. “We will find grass, we will eat it. That’s just the way it us for us now.”

Over in Yemen, there are about seven million people in need of food help, and authorities are warning that if nothing is done “millions of children” could starve to death

“The numbers affected are absolutely extraordinary,” said Mark Kaye, Save the Children’s Yemen spokesperson.

“We keep on talking about a country that’s on the brink of famine, but for me these numbers highlight that we’re at the point of no return. If things are not done now we are going to be looking back on this and millions of children will have starved to death, and we’ll all have been aware of this for some time. That will shame us as an international community for years to come.

Eritrea was not specifically included in the recent UN alert, but it should have been.  Much of the country has been hit by a crippling drought, and approximately half of all children in Eritrea are stunted

But we cannot understand why Eritrea is not included in the appeal. Unicef has confirmed what we know from our friends and families inside the country. In a report in January, the agency said that the El Niño drought has hit half of all Eritrea’s regions. Acute malnutrition is widespread. As Unicef put it: “Malnutrition rates already exceeded emergency levels, with 22,700 children under five projected to suffer from severe acute malnutrition in 2017 … Half of all children in Eritrea are stunted, and as a result, these children are even more vulnerable to malnutrition and disease outbreaks.

We have been warned that there would be famines in diverse places in these times.  But here in the western world we tend to be lulled into a false sense of security by our comfortable lives, not realizing that the massively inflated standard of living that we have been enjoying has been fueled by the largest mountain of debt in the history of the planet.

In Kenya, a national emergency has been declared due to drought and famine.  For those of you that are parents, what would you do if your children were crying out for food but you didn’t have anything to give them?  The following story from Kenya is beyond heartbreaking…

Emmanuel Ayapar is three years old and can no longer walk. The flesh on his legs, which dangle from his mother’s hip as she carries him around, is wasting away.

He seems listless and sad, tongue flicking repeatedly in and out of his mouth.

‘We do not have enough food,’ said Veronica, his 28-year-old mother. ‘We eat only once a day.’

The little boy is suffering from severe malnutrition and is at risk of starving to death. He weighs just 15lb – half the typical weight for a boy of his age.

I don’t even know what to say after that.

In the western world we can be so incredibly self-absorbed that we don’t even realize that children are literally starving to death on the other side of the planet.

Hopefully those of us that live in “wealthy” western countries will step up to the plate and aid those in need, and hopefully this crisis will also help us to understand that we need to prepare for the day when things get difficult in our own nations too.

Don’t breed them if you can’t feed them.

    • Realist

      Wow, that was utterly profound.
And so helpful for the millions starving right now!
Thank you Servesh*t for your deep and compelling solutions to current crises.

  • 3rd Hand Smoke

Why are they starving? Giving them fish today might make you feel better about yourself but will just lead to billions more people who can’t feed themselves tomorrow. Africa and South America are how they are because of who lives there, ditto for China, India, Japan, or Europe. Bringing millions of people who can’t feed themselves into this country will only make this country more like where they came from and ultimately make the problem worse.

    • William Lutz

Are you claiming that the famine victims willingly choose not to succeed and work hard for their food?

      • socalbeachdude

They certainly aren’t practicing proper farming techniques, are they?

    • The starving citizens of the countries you just mentioned are in dire straights because of their countries’ political leaders and the fatcats who pull their $trings, NOT because they’re too lazy.

Watch the United States… we are heading the way of the starving 3rd world country’s populace as well.

I will support Christian community kitchens that will replace government handouts that are politically motivated. America can’t support the world but we can set an example.

  • John Higson

If you feed them they will breed, best not to really, it only means a bigger famine 20 years down the line…

That land was never meant to support so many, they’ll never make a living on it. It is the ultimate expression of exceeding carrying capacity. The Earth can support about 1 billion(optimistically)in a full blown 1st world lifestyle, time to triage…

    • Carl

You do realize that many women in 3rd world countries do not WANT to breed as you put it. Many are raped. Many are taught that they have no rights to their bodies and for many it is lack of education and in 3rd world countries children are a status and mean success.

In America we cry about all the babies being aborted yet many complain about single mothers and poor people breeding as you say and siphoning off the system. The human issues are too complex to compartmentalize them with propagandist statements that are mean to dehumanize people.

      • K2

You missed the single biggest reason why couples have more kids in third world countries. Its because kids there go to work too, so they see kids as members who can ‘earn’.

    • K2

”If you feed them they will breed, best not to really, it only means a bigger famine 20 years down the line..”

How about feeding them and giving them condoms/contraceptives and booklets explaining the demerits of having too many children.

  • retired22

This could all have been foreseen by anyone who bothered to look!
The world’s population has increased in the last 110 years from 1.6 billion to today’s 7.6 billion inhabitants. This is an almost 500% increase in that time.Making matters worse, the population in many of the 1st world countries has declined. This means that the increase in the 3rd world nations is even larger, percentage wise, then the global total of 500%.
The Earth can’t accommodate that many new people, the available resources on land are not extensive enough
On top of all this, the poorer nations don’t have the social infrastructure to help themselves!
These societies were not set up to handle this kind of crisis!
Latin America, starting with Mexico & going south, was settled beginning almost 450 years ago as feudal societies by the Spaniards.Feudal societies set up for the benefit of pure blood Europeans. The native Indians & black slaves were used as raw labor & never included into this closed establishment.Societies like this all across Central & South America are not equipped to function with these huge populations.
Mexico is typical,in the 1895 census Mexico had 12,700,000 inhabitants.a bit over 10%,1.270 million, were white European & the remaining 90%,11.430 million were Indians & Mestizo population.
Today,122 years later, the Mexican population has grown to 121 million with the same ethnic proportions, that is a 1000% increase in that period of time.without help from the USA Mexico is close to being a failed state unable to feed & care for such a huge population. Most of Latin America,as well as the Muslim world & Africa are in similar trouble.
The only nations that can handle this crisis have declining populations & their big problem will be to keep their borders closed to hordes of starving migrants seeking survival!
The world is due for a gigantic Malthusian Catastrophe in the near future!

P.S.that is why America needs walls along it’s southern border.
When the SHTF we may have not only the Mexicans coming into the country,we may have all of Latin America heading north to the USA looking for something to eat!

    • Carl

Ironically the earth does have the resources to give the basic necessities to ALL human beings on this earth. We choose not to. We have been brainwashed into believing that having simple things like food, water and medical treatment should all come at a cost and a price. If you can’t pay that price then you are discarded and thrown by the wayside like a useless piece of trash.

In America food is thrown away in hideous amounts, farmers are paid to NOT grow food, etc.

In other countries those that try to self sustain are invaded by armed thieves who take their village – with a well established well and force the people out by violence or threat there of.

If only things were as simple as Americans like to make it out to be. With human beings nothing is simple or easy.

      • William Lutz

All thanks to capitalism, where you can rape the planet, control the people, and reap the dirty profits while doing so.

        • socalbeachdude

Obviously, all food and food related products have a cost of production and is not something that can or ever will be given away at no charge and profits must be earned on those products to supply production and distribution.

        • jakartaman

Why is Africa not a 21st century area?
Why have they always been the dark continent – This is capitalism fault – What kind of logic are you trying to use.
Freedom and capitalism is the savior and engine of the world.
Go to Iran and see how well you make out.

          • Zenithon

            Or cuba.

      • retired22

The problem isn’t just diminishing resources.
The bigger problem is Ignorance, misinformation & superstition.
Latin America, which must have over a billion people,90% of whom are nonfunctional & illiterate. They are illiterate & ignorant by design in antiquated feudal societies that were barely functional 500 years ago.
The trained human resources are not there to overcome the problems nor is the antiquated social infrastructure capable of meeting the challenges.
this is true all across the overpopulated 3rd world

    • Zenithon

Great points, but your math is a little off. A percent increase is derived by taking the difference between the future and past numbers and dividing it by the original number and then multiplying it by 100. For example, in your case of world population increase over the last 110 years, that would be:
      ((7.6-1.6)/1.6)100 or
      (6/1.6)100=375% increase.

      • retired22

        O.K.

  • Bill

    Shame on you Michael

  • newgrip

Understand how the ‘money system’ works and you will understand why the poor have not enough.
    Simple:
    1. make everything cost money.
    2. detach the value of money from gold and silver.
    3. print as much fake money as you can and drive up prices.
    4. the poor will be unable to keep up with the cost of living and will run out of food… because they have not enough money!

    • socalbeachdude

Gold and silver and beaver pelts and glass beads and bird feathers have nothing whatsoever to do with money. There is no such thing as “fake money” and all legal currencies are backed by the current and future assets and labor and productivity of the citizens of the government issuing the currency. Never has been a time where food has been so plentiful and cheap in the entire history of the world.

      • Paul Anders

Backed by future assets and labor? Empty promises you mean…

        • socalbeachdude

So you don’t think there will be future assets and labor in the US economy and global economy? Really? Seriously?

          • Paul Anders

Oh I do, Just not what they say there will be…A fake number for their fake currency

  • Cinderella Man

And the US throws away about half the food it produces. A buddy of mine works at a commercial bakery. He tells me you wouldn’t believe the reasons they throw away buns and bread. If there is a slight bubble or imperfection the food is tossed. Crazy to me. We live in a society where we think cheap food is infinite. And the reasons that our food producers and manufacturers reject food is appalling to me. I’m in the AG industry myself. The cattle I raise is becoming more and more expensive every year. And if my farmer neighbors didn’t have help from the govt it would be a waste of time to grow the wheat. Its an uphill battle and I’m afraid that most healthy food will be unaffordable for the average Joe in the coming years.

    • William Lutz

Correct. We live in a first world society where we are so advantaged and tend to take things for granted. We are a bunch self centered people who don’t give the less fortunate much consideration. It’s such a shame how wasteful we have become.

I have also witnessed the skyrocketing food prices. Based on your experience as a cattleman, I can determine why my beloved steaks are becoming more costly. Sooner or later, the price of certain grocery items like meat will turn out to be so unaffordable that they will become off limits to the family budget.

      • K2

Thr prices are rising not because of lack of availability. Heck we still produce more than we consume. The prices are rising because of speculation in commodity markets.

        • Cinderella Man

          Don’t forget inflation

          • socalbeachdude

There is no inflation at all and the massive plunge in oil prices since June 2014 with them down nearly 60% is all part of the intensifying GLOBAL DEFLATIONARY SPIRAL which will continue to intensify.

    • socalbeachdude

Cattle prices are way down from what they were years ago, particularly here in the west where there is record crop production and the “drought” is over. Most all grain commodities prices are also way down in cost. As to “help from the government” all agricultural subsidies should be totally ended.

      • Cinderella Man

You’re an idiot troll and you have no clue what you’re talking about Twaatblossom

        • SnodtBlossom

          GET A JOB DIRTBAG#1!

        • socalbeachdude

Hardly. Everything I stated above is 100% true, accurate, and correct. Get a clue.

      • Cinderella Man

Cattle price has no reflection on what it actually costs to raise the animal. We producers get screwed by the meat packing industry year after year. And without subsidies no farmer would grow the crop. I know you love hearing yourself talk and as usual just because you can Google something doesn’t make you an expert.

        • socalbeachdude

What I stated above is 100% correct. Most cattle ranchers make a lot of money and do just fine, and if you are having any issues at all it is with your management.

    • tom

One of the biggest problems is that businesses would gladly give the food away, but are concerned with lawsuits should someone accuse them /the food getting them sick. We live in such a litigious society that people/businesses would rather do nothing than risk being sued

      • The Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act of 1996 protects donors from being held responsible for any bad things that may happen from consuming expired/past safety date foods.

Back in the 90’s I worked graveyard shift at a major store, and one of my jobs was to destroy perfectly good foods and dump them into the large blue trash bin outside before dousing it all with dish soap… rather than carry it myself to the local Good Salvation Army. I’m talking about chips, pretzels, canned foods, etc., with approaching “sell by” dates, that had to be destroyed because we “didn’t want to risk anyone’s health”.

The above bill was signed or went into effect and places like Goodwill could hand retailers a waiver to sign, freeing them of any hypothetical issue that might occur from eating food with an expiry date… yet many stores didn’t believe it and they still refused to donate such foods.

For all I know, maybe teens are still being paid to open, crush, and destroy perfectly consumable foods today. I’m not kidding — there were times when I’d fill up nearly the entire big blue trash bin with day-old foods. It suc ked. I made minimum wage while attending college in the day, and I myself was sometimes starving. The wouldn’t allow me to eat one bite of perfectly good food.

  • My view

Michael you forgot to mention that population is exploding in those countries. Apart from Nigeria to certain extent non of mentioned countries is capable of producing enough food to feed people, because there is no industry or agriculture to support population multiplication. It is sad that in 21 century kids are dying from starvation but it is also sad that in the same century people are so uneducated about what is needed to support and grow family.

    • K2

      True…overpopulation is exacerbating the issue.

    • JC Teecher

Yes, and as Michael wrote about in an article last year; the ussag has stopped storing huge stockpiles of grain.
We have no reserves to fall back on.

Even S Korea, China, and Japan, has huge stockpiles of grain for their citizens.
The gov has stopped purchasing and storing because of the liberal, shadow gov. plans, that are being set for famine and starvation to hit Ameerica, in the near future.

That is why it is so very important for people to wake up and store foods for their own destiny, when shtf situations arise. A hand grinder, and gallons upon gallons of stored wheat and corn, could be the one lifeline a family has for weathering the coming storms.

  • Mike Franklin

There is plenty of food. Politics and profits limit it’s availability. Control food and you control the people.

    • K2

True…there is enough food in the world to feed the population many times over. (to illustrate…US throws away half the food it produces like the comment right below says, and countries like india throw away a third of their produce). But things like politics, civil war, deliberate starvation by enemy militias among other things are causing these kind of starvation levels.

      • SnodtBlossom

        From the World Hunger Org..
The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization estimates that about 795 million people of the 7.3 billion people in the world, or one in nine, were suffering from chronic undernourishment in 2014-2016. Almost all the hungry people, 780 million, live in developing countries, representing 12.9 percent, or one in eight, of the population of developing counties. There are 11 million people undernourished in developed countries
THERE’S NOTHING NEW ABOUT FAMINE Americans are too spoiled to understand this fact

        • K2

Its not apathy, its politics. Let me elaborate. Govt’s dont develop logistics, supply chain to feed because of votes. In some countries farmers are a powerful lobby, so govts cant afford giving away food for free for poor people with the fear that it will depress food prices and make them lose farmers votes. And yes, countries lose a lot because of spoilage, shipping. It only goes to show that we are producing more than we can consume.

      • sister soldier

        Excellent points.

At the very least, they could stop controlling weather so people could grow their own food! This is all part of the plan!

      • RobertH

But if they do that, they’d have to return earth to its rightful orbit, and that would upset the birds, who would then poop on windshields everywhere in revenge. It’s better they control the weather to avoid that happening, so all the bird poop is more evenly distributed over the earth. This too is part of the plan. You shouldn’t overlook this part. It’s very important.

Why is there any “global famine” when global crop production is at record high levels in 2017?

    • K2

After i read this comment of yours, i scrolled up to the article and you are right the UN did not say there is a ‘global famine’.

Seems like michael made it up.

Seems like he is under a lot of pressure from ‘prepping companies’ to hype up every crisis in order to scare people into buying more prepper gear. Given that this site is sponsored by prepping companies (see the side panels of this site) i guess we cant be surprised.

Africa has grown from 200 million to 1,2 billion people for near 50 years. They do not work, they do not have resources, but they stuck to have 6 or 8 children for family.
Now they face, to their responsibilities. Not just the global warming and the dust. When you do not have enough food, why you make 6-8 children?
You can afford to feed them, because they do exactly what they do 6-8 children. To feed this people is not humanity. This bring to you like a refugee and you will be swept!

I am 73 years old and am sick and tired of hearing the “handlers” claim that we have to feed the starving people in Africa. I have heard that crap ever since I was able to remember. When are we going to treat this as a cultural disease and treat it instead of throwing more money at it only to have the money stolen by their scummy politicians? They are starving themselves by their uneducated choices for rulers.

    • SnodtBlossom

I think we should stop feeding old people so that more productive younger people could make better worldwide efforts. Old people drain the resources of younger people.

      • SHAMWOW

Is that what you would do to your parents?

Old people have wisdom, priceless wisdom, the Africans have nothing to offer. We need to let them die off to sustainable levels.

    • Carl

“They are starving themselves by their uneducated choices for rulers.” Actually you can thank the united states government for the “rulers” these countries have in place. So YES I guess since our government put corrupt leaders in power (or helped them to get into power) we are responsible and so are you.

      • Stuey

As an American i am not responsible for what the corrupt politicians and corrupt government does or has done. We citizens can’t even control what they do in the USA how can we control what they do around the world. I am sure the African governments have plenty of corruption as well.

        • Carl

Every time an incumbent is voted back into office we are responsible. Every time we vote because they are a republican or a democrat because that’s the side we choose we are responsible. When we stop playing their game and stop picking sides then we will no longer bear the burden of their evil choices and evil actions.

          • Stuey

So if we don’t pick sides, then what do we do, just not vote? And if we don’t vote, are we still supposedly responsible because we didn’t vote? I refuse to accept the blame for what corrupt politicians and govt. does.

    • Stuey

Yep, these famines seem to happen over and over in Africa. Weird considering they have so much land, resources and animals available.

    • Chef Sp

I agree throwing more money at a systemic problem is never the answer. These countries need to modernize…and I’m not sure why some people are opposed to that. Maybe they found a way to capitalize off other people’s suffering. They usually do!

What is happening is what is inevitable when low IQ people outbreed the carrying capacity of these places they live in. As far as the Muslim world is concerned, a primitive obscurantist “religion” (really a violent political movement) has ensured that the Muslim population of the world is doomed if they do not invade the civilized world. On a strictly human level I feel for these people. On a practical, strategic and self-preservation level, I just yawn.

China and India should reduce their populations, together the comprise of almost half the earth’s population.

    • JC Teecher

It will not happen, as even China can only keep their populations barely sustainable, by communistic mandates, and abortions.

Sex in The big three, china, India, and Africa is in some cases, is all they have for brief moments of pleasure during any given day. When they can’t afford food, they sure as heck ain’t gonna buy contraceptives, but continue to screw to their deaths.
The majority of them would not use contraceptives, even if they were free.

      • Carl

“Sex in The big three, china, India, and Africa is in some cases, is all
they have for brief moments of pleasure during any given day.”

Please STOP lying. Most of the time women are forced in these countries. Please educate yourself as to what is really going on – your ignorance is showing.

Would a woman really be in the mood when she is hungry or watching her children starve to death? Highly doubtful. People in america think that women and men are all animals in third world countries. After all look at them going at it when there is so much famine and disease and terrible living conditions.

Women often do not have a choice nor do they realize they can say no. And the men over there are just doing what god programmed them to do – breed. It always troubled me that a woman’s reproductive cycle ends but a mans goes on and on and on.

These decisions about sex are made by men because of the misogynistic culture that is taught. Which is in all major religions.

Especially the Chinese culture where boys are looked to as furthering the family line and girls are looked at by most as inferior. That is why China is having such a problem now with men outnumbering women.

        • JC Teecher

          So?

  • Roopods6

I see your comment section is mostly written by adherents to racist Eugenicism, disinformation agents, and the ignorance is bliss crowd. There are ongoing food shortages in Europe, Brazil and Venezuela due to crop failures and exporting existing food to other countries by kleptocratic government officials. Venezuelan parents are giving up their children to survive. Venezuela is right in our southern hemisphere and not on the other side of the planet. And the rest of the world isn’t going to have the usual expected food surpluses to feed other countries in the near future. Here in the United States we are one growing season away from the beginnings of a famine. But what do the trolls in the comment section write? Plenty of food, too many people, especially in Africa. Such a lack of concern for your fellow humanity is just a preview of what to expect when your own bellies begin to shrink back to your own spines. And so it will be…

i have been reading about this since the 60s in sub saharan africa. This is not a food problem it is driven by politics and internecine warfare which these people cannot seem to stop. In some instances food is used as a weapon. Also even in situations where relief is sent there is NO infrastructure to distribute it.i.e reports at tsunami where food and supplies were left on tarmacs and ports to rot. the only way this will stop is for internal reforms and NO one has the will to do it. In most african countries the highest aspiration is a gov. job which perpetuates the problems. If bill gates and his ilk really wanted to help they would participate in programs to achieve this Elite agenda is eugenics. I have compassion fatigue and am tired of this endless unnecessary cycle also muslim world

  • JC Teecher

This is an article that should open the eyes of people world wide.

As the poster below, donna, eludes to; we older folks have been hearing and reading about famine from lack of food and water, for over 50 years.
Especially, in Africa, there are many organizations that have been helping, but it makes one wonder how much is actually being done.

When you look at the facts of how many so-called religious mega churches, and super preachers, have millions in their bank accounts and coffers, yet they never get around to helping the innocent that are hungry and thirsty.

James Robison is one such televangelist preacher that begs for $$ for the African poor. Yet he has million dollar homes, and rakes in millions in salaries for his family.

I can’t make a judgment concerning his heart or sincerity for the hungry children he claims to support, but I do know that there will come a day of reckoning.

Billions of dollars have been raised and funneled through charities that are suppose to help the poor, but the need still increases.
Are there more people to feed now, yes, but; the $$ are there but never seem to make it to the areas of people starving.
Thank God for the record keeping in Heaven, because accountability will reach the thieves and liars in due time.

    • Carl

“When you look at the facts of how many so-called religious mega
churches, and super preachers, have millions in their bank accounts and
coffers, yet they never get around to helping the innocent that are
      hungry and thirsty.”

Finally something I can agree with you about in regards to religion. It truly is disgusting. Billy Graham should step up too. Not just their lame shoeboxes at Christmastime.

      • JC Teecher

I would not cast stones at the little shoe boxes that bring a brief smile to a little kid that has nothing more than the ragged t-shirt on his or her back, in some cases.

At least it is something, and you never miss an opportunity to trash anyone having anything to do with religion. Never!

And never is a word that describes where you are heading if you continue to deny that there is a God, and His Son, Jesus Christ.

        • Carl

While it may “feel” good to send shoeboxes filled with cheap toys and candy to children (plus the tract that reminds them that regardless of the fact that they live in extreme poverty god still loves them) it is just designed as a way to make american christians feel good about themselves it does nothing to improve that child’s life permanently.

Besides how do you know that the boxes bring smiles to the kids faces? Have you been there when they open up the box? I think a trip to one of these places is in order for you and your friends. Perhaps it would open your eyes to the lives others live anywhere but the USA.

Those children and adults do not have the luxuries many here enjoy and take for granted. All because they lost the genetic lottery so to speak and where born where they were born.

          • JC Teecher

It is what it is. Does that mean I am uncaring, because I do not go to bed hungry? No.

I care, and have compassion, but one person cannot change the mentality of third world countries….except for Christ.

      • GoldenGirl

It is Franklin Graham who does the shoeboxes, and that is only one small part of his organization. In addition to providing disaster and crisis relief around the world, his organization, Samaritan’s Purse, has sent doctors to treat Ebola victims (remember Dr. Kent Brantley?); is involved in feeding programs in Africa and elsewhere; provides clean water and sanitation/hygiene education around the world; is active in refugee relief; and provides impoverished farmers around the world with livestock and other farm animals, along with skills training. I have touched on just a few of the projects in which this organization is involved. You may not agree with Mr. Graham’s religion, but not “stepping up” is not something of which he may be accused.

    • FirstGarden

Yeah, He has a hard drive that will never crash.
You are right about the food/money not getting to it’s intended recipients. A high percentage of it does not. I believe that’s because the same governments that neglected their peoples and let them starve, are also opportunists who will intercept any aid coming in for their own gain. Evil begets evil. But I trust there are a few bright exceptions. Very few.

  • Priszilla

In all these places war and religion have a higher priority.

  • Ingmar Blessing

Why not in Ethiopia? That’s in the middle of the whole thing and then there’s also Chad with its exploding population. Exploding into poverty and the desert.

  • SHAMWOW

I thought GMO’s were supposed to be the solution for population growth by increasing yields of farmers and thus feeding a hungry world? Of course I know there is plenty of food to feed the world I just said the above sentence because I want to bash GMO’s.

I guess someone has to say it. My heart breaks for these masses of humanity, so much like ourselves. However, there seems to be a common theme in the histories of places like Africa, India and others.
    Here’s some food for thought:

    2) Thus says the Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel: You have seen all the calamity that I have brought upon Jerusalem and upon all the cities of Judah. Look at them; today they are a desolation, and no man dwells in them,

    3) because of their wickedness, which they have committed to provoke Me to anger, in that they went to burn incense and to serve other gods, whom they did not know; they, nor you, nor your fathers.

    4) However, I sent to you all My servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, saying, “Oh, do not do this abominable thing that I hate.”

    5) But they did not listen nor incline their ear to turn from their wickedness, not to burn incense to other gods.

    6) Therefore My fury and My anger was poured out and was kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; and they are ruined and desolate, as it is this day.

    7) Now thus says the Lord God of Hosts, the God of Israel: Why are you committing this great evil against your souls, to cut off from you man and woman, child and infant, out of Judah, leaving you no one to remain,

    8) provoking Me to wrath with the works of your hands, burning incense to other gods in the land of Egypt, where you have gone to dwell, so that you might cut yourselves off and become a curse and a reproach among all the nations of the earth?

    9) Have you forgotten the wickedness of your fathers, and the wickedness of the kings of Judah, and the wickedness of their wives, and your own wickedness, and the wickedness of your wives, which they have committed in the land of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?

    10) They are not humbled even to this day, nor have they feared, nor have they walked in My law and My statutes that I set before you and before your fathers.

    11) Therefore thus says the Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel: I will set My face against you for disaster, and to cut off all Judah.

    12) I will take the remnant of Judah who have set their faces to go into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, and they all will be consumed and fall in the land of Egypt. They will even be consumed by the sword and by the famine. They will die, from the least even to the greatest, by the sword and by the famine; and they will be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach.

  • Mondobeyondo

It’s political corruption and problems with food distribution that have a huge hand in creating famines. Not the only factors of course, but that certainly can’t be ignored or discounted.

  • billtheguy

  • steven454

Shipping food in to a region whose population already exceeds the carrying capacity of that region is setting the stage for more famine in the future. That population doesn’t have the education or the will power to control their own numbers (few people do, but obviously at this time it’s not as critical in some areas as it is there), so unfortunately introducing food from the outside just induces more reproduction.
When it comes to getting your numbers in line with your ecosystem, nobody said that Mother Nature was kind – either we do it for our selves or she will do it for us.

The very least we can do is pray for the people. Hunger pains are ruthless. The nations involved seem to be under the spell of resource extraction by other nations including ours. The karmic effect was always termed as you sow so shall you reap. We will reap a whirlwind some day. We divert great wealth into the mundane and let other fellows starve. It is no wonder. There will come a day when we meet our maker. Christ said on that day:

    Matthew 7:21-23 Douay-Rheims 1899 American Edition (DRA)

21 Not every one that saith to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven: but he that doth the will of my Father who is in heaven, he shall enter into the kingdom of heaven.

22 Many will say to me in that day: Lord, Lord, have not we prophesied in thy name, and cast out devils in thy name, and done many miracles in thy name?

23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, you that work iniquity.

Will we give up our urge to wage conquest? Will we feed the starving or clothe the naked? I think Christ already knew the answer when he said he would tell us to depart from him. We are already apart because we can’t even comprehend the needs and suffering of others. Even worse we cannot see our responsibility in it. There is in law two types of crimes acts and omissions. Where many are cautious about their acts. They are quite avid in their omissions. So I see very few will pass muster, but that is as it should be. One day the fire will refine us. As Smokey the bear used to say, learn not to burn.

    • Carl

“The very least we can do is pray for the people.” You are right that is the VERY LEAST you could do for anyone.

If you give a person a fish, you feed that person for a day.
IF you teach a person to catch fish, you might feed them for a life time.
So how does that apply to a land in drought?
Disney has already shown hydroponics gardening where using a drip bottle system even a desert can bloom. What is needed is change.
Because all of these people need a way to get good water to the land and then farm the land in such a way that it feeds the people.
Part of the change has to be teaching people how to live on the land that they are in.
Any restaurant in this country wastes more food than they sell.
We as a nation have abundant resources to feed our own people and that did not happen by accident.
It wasn’t always so. In our great depression farmers went broke right and left. It took careful planning for that to all change.
In the meantime, these people need non-perishable food in cans in such a way that even using a distribution system everyone gets enough food to survive and then learn.
Bill Gates is doing something. He is setting up water systems so that people are not drinking sewer water. Even if a village has only one source of clean water that is better than nothing.
The biggest resource of a drought ridden hot country is sunlight.
Getting fresh water to such an area is a trick our Army of Engineers knows well.
If you use sunlight to boil water it can be used for a lot of things. If you boil sea water in a solar furnace you can make it into drinking water. Here in Ohio we have a series of dams that were built by really good engineers and they are still providing water all these years later.
There is an underground river 400 feet below the surface that provides good drinking water locally. Someone had to find it . . .
There is water all over this planet. The trick is finding it.
If that water is available from an underground system in Africa it might be simple to find. Modern equipment finds things with a form of sonar.
Africa once had a shallow lake system on the Western side of the continent. That system provided rain for the entire plains of Africa. Then the geography changed and the lakes drained off. That was the beginning of the great African desert.
One way Africa could get it back would be to artificially put these lakes back in place, even if you had to use salt water to do it. Then as the winds travel west to east the entire continent would change back to grassy plains over time.
These people need food now. In the future, given ambition to change and cooperation between nations, the entire place could become great again.

    • JC Teecher

You are right on so many points, but Bill Gates could drill wells to supply all the poor people in Africa, …..but he hasn’t done it, and never will, because he is about making himself feel good through his small charitable work. He has plenty of company in that department.

For all of you who think this is some kind of attack on Snoddy, it is NOT. It is a FACT that Snoddy is suicidal and in fact tried to commit suicide in the past and thinks about it still. We are genuinely trying to help Snoddy get some help before its too late. Snoddy is a very miserable person and only pretends to have it all together. So we go right to the root to attempt to get Snoddy help before its too late. We don’t want Snoddy to continue to act like a god and pretend that it has it all together. Snoddy needs to become humble and admit this is true and get some real help from the one and only true one that can help it. That will require real humility.
It is abundantly clear and obvious from Snoddy’s posts that this person is incredibly tormented and in need of help.

    • Carl

So you want to help snoddy since you referred to her as an it I truly doubt it. So god will help her? Doubtful. I saw on a message board 3 people ask people to pray that their sick loved one would get better and people posted that they would pray and blah, blah and each of those 3 people are now dead so prayer and its power is a lie.

It would be absurd, no beyond absurd, to suggest that all things manufactured — like that device you’re looking at right now — all just flew together over time and chance.. without any governing intelligence and oversight.

Design does not proceed from non-design. Life does not proceed from non-life. Intelligence does not proceed from non-intelligence.

Are you willing to gamble away the whole of existence as though it all came from absolute vacuum?

Behind all its intricacies, beauty and design, there is INDEED a Creator. God is real, and He loves you, Carl.

          • Carl

I spit on your god. He is the devil as are you. Take your creator nonsense and stick it where the sun don’t shine. Your god is neither loving or merciful he is a pathetic image of human beings and all their sick and twisted failings as people. Rotten to the core and twisted beyond belief. You sir or madam are a disgusting example of a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Masking yourself as a christian when in reality you are the incarnate of your devil god himself. May you reincarnate into africa in your next life if only to have compassion restored to your black soul.

          • FirstGarden

Wow, you’re not even trying to be rational, let alone civil.

Rarely have I ever seen such self-destruction in a person.

            Sad, Very sad.
            Take care.

          • Gay Veteran

why does your “god” never regrow the limbs of amputees?

          • FirstGarden

As a rule, God does not choose to do this. However, there are reports of such things happening, and I mean verifiable, not fake. However, God is far more concerned about the condition of our souls than that of our bodies.

            Kind regards.

          • Gay Veteran

but there are countless reports of your “god” curing cancer, but NEVER regrown limbs.
            interesting

    • socalbeachdude

Don’t you have anything constructive to say about the article of which the topic is “global famine” as opposed to putting up an inane attack on another commenter here?

    • “V”

I hate Snoddy…..may she burn in hell

  • FirstGarden

    • Carl

You are a moron and anyone who agrees with you is just as stupid. You are implying that because they supposedly worshiped false gods that they are getting what they deserve. So much for love and mercy. You are a fool and you wonder why most people can’t stand evangelical christians. This is the MAIN reason. Arrogance and ignorance.

      • FirstGarden

That’s all projection. Reread what I wrote, especially the beginning. Cause & Effect is a reality in life. Idol worship causes famine and other outcomes. Of course, we don’t wish this upon anyone. Of course we have love and compassion for these people whose value is incalculable.

In my merely pointing out a cause of famine, that doesn’t, in the least, indicate my heart toward these people. Think beyond.

        • Carl

Bull you are an arrogant liar. You have the chosen people syndrome which is very common among religious types. Yeah so there is famine right now in Africa because they worshiped and may/may not worship false gods today.

If that was the case then the US would be suffering the same or similar fate because not everyone in the US is a christian. Just like there are some christians in Africa. The fact that someone gave you a up vote just shows you that there are many more fools like you out there.

          • FirstGarden

Carl, what’s wrong? All this anger and animosity you are showing here just doesn’t add up. What’s really bothering you?

          • Carl

            Sick freak

          • FirstGarden

This is troll behavior. I can’t believe that someone can be this stupid. It’s deliberate, isn’t it?

You obviously don’t want any kind of real conversation, but only ignore what people say, and just react, with blinders on.

I feel sorry for you, because it is impossible to treat others with such a degree of hatred and disdain without having a horrid lack of self-esteem. Self respect is impossible here.

I’m sorry that you live in such a world of self-hatred. You speak like someone who’s into black witchcraft. Whatever the case, I hope you’ll find the ability someday to love yourself, and to live others. The torment must be horrific.

          • Carl

Really? You are the one implying that Africans are starving to death because god is causing a famine to punish them for their worship of “false gods” and I’m the troll? You don’t think your stupid comment about the reason for the famine is showing a disdain for the suffering of these people.

Your god it seems is an equal opportunity sufferer and even makes children and babies suffer for the supposed sins of their parents. Though I guess that is par for the course with your whole garden of eden b.s.

          • FirstGarden

You seem to have a very serious disconnect within. Not only Africa has suffered, but so has India, and so many other places where idolatry has run rampant.

If this is too much for you, then drop it. Change the subject. Go on a nice hike or something.

Talking to you here is entirely futile.
            Later.

        • Gay Veteran

“…Idol worship causes famine and other outcomes….”

right, because no Christian ever died due to a famine

          • FirstGarden

Christians indeed suffer from the world’s ills. They even get thrown to the lions. But that is the wrath of Satan. But in God’s retribution, He does provide for those who seek Him, and look to Him for provision.

  • Orac4Prez

Trump’s massive increase in military spending would probably feed all the world’s starving! Instead of donate food rather than military aid.

  • Eric Blust

All the guys that would have planted fields, (the motivated third worlders) became immigrants trying to go to America and Europe, it is causing a vacuum in their home lands.

  • Nailbanger

Maybe man needs to stop meddling in natural selection

  • Stuey

Why doesn’t the Saudi’s with all their oil money help out the people in Yemen, they are right next door? With all the unused land, resources and animals in Africa how do they continue to have famines over and over?

    • Gay Veteran

because Saudi Arabia is waging a war of aggression against Yemen, with U.S. help of course

  • Stuey

Yemen, really? Their rich neighbors in Saudi Arabia can’t help them out?

    • Dean

Saudi Arabia has an air conditioned tent city that can house 3 million refugees, but it sits empty. Google it.

      • Stuey

Yep, very true. I have seen pictures of it as well.

  • George Washington

Here is a thought…stop having children if you live in these places where there is no food to feed them! Why should the developed world keep throwing good money/aid at these countries who have 8 to 10 kids each! No wonder there is not enough food to go around. This is SSDD in Africa. The only ones who benefit are the NGOs who squander all of the donation money like the Clinton Foundation!

    • “V”

Many of the children are the result of rape…………

  • “V”

I was in Somolia 1993-1994, US Army 10th Mountain division. This may seem insensitive to many of the snowlfakes who frequent this site but the place is an absolute (Rhymes with skit) hole. A bunch of cockroaches fighting over scraps. 30 years of civil war but you only hear about Syria. They should nuke the whole Country and turn it into a parking lot.

  • Sean H

The only country mentioned that isn’t ravaged by warlords and muslim extremists is Kenya. It’ll never get better unless they stabilize THEMSELVES and create an environment for farming and business. Kind of like our democrat run inner cities.

  • Dennis Pickles

And Obama send 150,000,000,000 to Iran!!!!

  • George Washington

Its simply time to stop helping these 50 IQ Africans. They need to learn how to help themselves, tough love is what they need. If they cant feed themselves they shouldnt breed like rats.

  • Mark Whelan

Michigan dumped thousands of tons of cherries to keep the price up and dumped millions of gallons of milk…not to mention millions of acres of corn made into gasahol instead of livestock feed or other crops to subsidize corporate farms…of course the famine is BS.

  • Locus

hell no, stop feeding them, they will only keep breeding more of them, and then theyll need even more food. time to cut all food and foreign aid to these third world hell holes, end all immigration from these same nations, and return the people already here back. let them figure out how to grow more food or shrink their population by eating each other, I AM OVER IT. THEY CAN BLAME WHITE PEOPLE FOR THAT TOO.

    • Locus

wake up white men, keep feeding your enemies, and theyll keep flooding our nations.

  • Julie

The Economic Collapse – can you provide some referrals of worthy organizations who are helping this cause and who we can give too.
