And So It Begins – 1000s Of Cattle Are Literally Dropping Dead From Starvation In Northern Mexico

A lot of people didn’t think that it would ever come to this.  Many simply assumed that conditions would return to “normal” eventually and that everything would work out just fine somehow.  But here in the middle of 2021, everything is definitely not fine.  In fact, cows are literally dropping dead from starvation in northern Mexico in very large numbers.  This isn’t the sort of thing that is supposed to happen in North America.

For years, I have been warning that Dust Bowl conditions would return to the Southwest.  Just check my old books and my old articles.  Now it has happened, and everyone is in shock.

For years, I have also been warning that global food supplies would get tighter and tighter.  And even though they can see it happening, many out there are desperately hoping that I will be proven wrong somehow.

What we are witnessing south of the border right now should be a huge wake up call for all of us.  The following comes from an article that was originally published by the Los Angeles Times entitled “In drought-plagued northern Mexico, tens of thousands of cows are starving to death”

In the parched hills of southern Sonora, Marco Antonio Gutierrez paced around a clearing, counting the dead.

There were seven rotting carcasses — jutting ribs and shriveled hides — and two sun-bleached skulls. Nine cows, felled by heat and hunger.

“There’s nothing for them to eat,” said Gutierrez, a wide-brimmed hat shading his downcast eyes.

I fully understand that it is hard to believe that this is actually happening in our part of the world.

Sadly, Gutierrez hasn’t just lost nine cows.

The article goes on to explain that he has actually lost a total of 70 cows to starvation so far…

Gutierrez doesn’t use the phrase “climate change” to describe what’s happening, but he laments that every year seems drier and hotter than the last. In recent months, he has watched helplessly as 70 of his 100 cows have starved to death.

70 cows!

Of course the losses suffered by Gutierrez represent just a very small fraction of the overall tragedy.

At this point, the number of cattle in Sonora has dropped by nearly half a million over the past two years…

Two years of extreme drought have turned large stretches of northern Mexico into a boneyard. Between starvation and ranchers forced to prematurely sell or slaughter their livestock, officials say the number of cattle in Sonora has dropped from 1.1 million to about 635,000.

If you don’t think that this will affect us here in the United States, you are wrong.

Each year, the U.S. usually imports about 500 million pounds of beef from Mexico.

So get ready to pay much more for beef at the grocery store.

Sadly, NBC News is telling us that the drought in Mexico “looks set to worsen in coming weeks”

A long-term drought that has hit two-thirds of Mexico looks set to worsen in coming weeks, with forecasts warning of high temperatures, crop damage and water supply shortages on the horizon, including in the populous capital.

Experts are sounding the alarm that parched crops could under-produce as temperatures hit 40 degrees Celsius (104F) on Wednesday in some parts of northern Mexico, including key farming areas.

Meanwhile, we are dealing with a historic drought of our own in the western third of the nation.

At this moment, every square inch of California is in a state of drought, and that is a huge problem because it produces about a third of our vegetables and about two-thirds of our fruits and nuts.

Many other western and midwestern states are also deeply suffering, and this has created a rapidly growing agricultural crisis.

The USDA has released some new numbers that are absolutely staggering.  You can find articles about these numbers here and here.  But in order to write about these numbers, I had to verify them for myself, and so I went to the original document that these new USDA numbers come from.  The following are exact quotes that come directly from that document

-“Approximately 84 percent of barley production is within an area experiencing drought.”

-“Approximately 36 percent of corn production is within an area experiencing drought.”

-“Approximately 31 percent of soybean production is within an area experiencing drought.”

-“Approximately 86 percent of sunflower production is within an area experiencing drought.”

-“Approximately 99 percent of durum wheat production is within an area experiencing drought.”

-“Approximately 99 percent of spring wheat production is within an area experiencing drought.”

-“Approximately 30 percent of winter wheat production is within an area experiencing drought.”

-“Approximately 36 percent of hay acreage production is within an area experiencing drought.”

-“Approximately 64 percent of alfalfa acreage production is within an area experiencing drought.”

-“Approximately 44 percent of the hog inventory is within an area experiencing drought.”

-“Approximately 32 percent of the cattle inventory is within an area experiencing drought.”

-“Approximately 48 percent of the milk cow inventory is within an area experiencing drought.”

-“Approximately 53 percent of the sheep inventory is within an area experiencing drought.”

We have never seen anything quite like this.

This may surprise some of you to hear, but I am actually at a loss for words.  I have been warning that this would happen, but to see it actually play out is another thing altogether.

Initially, the number one way that this will affect you personally is through higher prices at the grocery store.

At the same time that our leaders are dramatically ramping up the money supply, agricultural production will be well below original projections.

This is a slow-motion train wreck of epic proportions, and it is happening right in front of our eyes.

And it isn’t just North America that is having a problem.  All over the globe, crazy weather patterns are playing havoc with food production, and global food supplies are just getting tighter and tighter.

This isn’t going to end well, but most of you have already figured that out by now.

The Apocalyptic Drought In The Western U.S. Is Causing Widespread Crop Failures On A Massive Scale

At a time when food prices are already rising aggressively, agricultural production in the United States is being absolutely devastated by a drought that many are calling “the worst” in American history.  Once again this week, the latest U.S. Drought Monitor map has extremely bad news for us.  In all the years that I have been writing, we have never experienced anything like we are experiencing right now.  As I write this article, 100% of the state of California is in a state of drought, and you should care very much about that because California produces about a third of our vegetables and about two-thirds of our fruits and nuts.  Of course it is not just California that is facing an unprecedented nightmare right now.  At this point, drought is covering more territory in our western states than we have ever seen before

Record-high temperatures in the Pacific Northwest and other parts of the West Coast along with prolonged drought in those areas and the Upper Midwest are stressing crops and livestock and raising concerns about irrigation supplies as conditions persist.

The US Drought Monitor as of July 13 showed 100% of all states west of the Rocky Mountains and most of the Upper Midwest region in some level of drought. California, Oregon, Arizona, Idaho, Utah and North Dakota were nearly 100% severe drought or worse (with extreme and exceptional the most severe). Washington, Montana, South Dakota, Minnesota, New Mexico, most of Wyoming and western Colorado all were in moderate or worse drought.

2020 was a bad year, but at this time last year only about 20 percent of the West was experiencing “severe drought”.

Today, that number is up to 80 percent

Nearly 80% of the West, including North and South Dakota, is in severe drought. That percentage is even more staggering when compared to the 20% of the region that fell into the severe drought range this time last year.

Let that number sink in for a moment.

This is a historic disaster of epic proportions, and it is starting to have a dramatic impact on agricultural production.

For example, the amount of spring wheat is projected to be 41 percent below the level that we witnessed in 2020…

The USDA’s initial spring wheat other than durum production forecast for 2021 was 344,575,000 bus, down 41% from 2020 and the lowest since 205,460,000 bus in 1988. Average yield was forecast at 30.7 bus an acre, down 37% from 2020 and the lowest since 2002. Although 2021 spring wheat planted area was down 5.5% from 2020, harvested area was down 7%, suggesting a larger number of abandoned acres.

Other crops are being hit even harder.

According to Bloomberg, the U.S. oat crop will be the smallest that we have seen since records began in 1866.

That isn’t a typo, and I didn’t mean to say “1966”.

For thousands upon thousands of U.S. farmers, 2021 is going to be an absolutely disastrous year with very little production at all.  At one farm in Minnesota, the owner is estimating that he “will not be able to harvest hardly anything” from the 2,500 acres of corn that he planted…

At Schiefelbein Farms, the hayfield should be knee-high by this time of year. Instead, it’s sparse and barely ankle-high.

Schiefelbein estimates they have about 75% less hay this year. Out of their 2,500 acres of corn, they will not be able to harvest hardly anything.

So what are we going to do if there is not enough food to go around?

You might want to start thinking about that.

Up in Canada, farmers are saying that the unprecedented “heat dome” that we just witnessed literally “cooked” a lot of the fruit while it was still on the branches…

Fruit growers in the province of British Columbia (BC) said the heatwave reportedly “cooked” fruits while still on the branch. BC Fruit Growers Association (BCFGA) President and orchardist Pinder Dhaliwal told the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation: “It seems like somebody took a blowtorch to [the fruit] and just singed it.” He described the cherries affected by the heatwave: They became brown in color, with burnt leaves and dry stems.

According to Dhaliwal, 50 to 70 percent of cherry crops were damaged in the heatwave. He added that apples, apricots and other stone fruits also reported damage – albeit to a lesser degree. “The overall financial impact is going to be great on the farmers,” Dhaliwal said.

But the corporate media is telling us that everything is going to be just wonderful, and so we should probably just stick our heads in the sand and ignore this sort of thing.

Personally, I don’t understand why the federal government is not taking action.  As global weather patterns go completely nuts, other national governments are starting to step up to the plate.  For example, just check out what has been happening in Dubai

As mother nature hasn’t helped till now, Dubai has come up with its very own way to create rain as it grapples with a 50C heatwave.

The city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has come up with drone technology that “shocks” clouds into producing rain.

It is part of multi-million efforts to tackle the blistering weather and bring up the meagre average of just four inches of rainfall a year in the Middle Eastern country.

We have similar technology.

So why aren’t we using it?

Somebody needs to ask the Biden administration that question.

As it stands, we are heading into a real nightmare.  Food prices have already been getting very painful, and a billionaire that is in the food business just told Fox Business that he is expecting “10% to 14% food inflation by October”

Businessman John Catsimatidis expects 10% to 14% food inflation by October.

Catsimatidis — the owner and CEO of Manhattan-based grocery chain Gristedes Foods — told Fox Business that Americans can expect higher prices for basic expenses in the coming months.

“We’re both in the food business, and we’re in the oil business. Food prices are getting higher, and we expect even more increases by October,” he said. “We’re seeing anywhere from 10% to 14% by October 1. It’s a real number.”

I think that he is right on the money, but this is just the beginning.  There will be much more pain in 2022 and beyond.

Food prices are never going to be lower than they are right now, and so if you can afford to stock up I would strongly recommend doing so.

Scientists are assuring us that we are in a multi-year “megadrought”, and they are telling us that there is no end in sight at this point.

This is an absolutely huge story, and unfortunately we are still only in the very early chapters.

An “All-Out Blizzard” That Is “Unheard Of For October” Is About To Hit Farms In The Midwest With Up To 2 Feet Of Snow

Farmers in the middle of the country are about to get hit by what could potentially be the worst October blizzard in U.S. history.  According to USA Today, “the massive size and intensity of this snowstorm is unheard of for October”.  In other words, we have never seen anything like this in the month of October ever before.  Such a storm would have been disastrous enough in a normal year, but this has definitely not been a normal year for Midwest farmers.  As I detailed extensively in previous articles, endless rain and horrific flooding made planting season a complete and utter nightmare for many Midwest farmers this year.  Millions of acres did not get planted at all, and planting was seriously delayed on tens of millions of other acres.  As a result, corn, soybeans and other crops are simply not ready to be harvested in many parts of the Midwest, and now an unprecedented winter storm is barreling directly toward our heartland.

This is a very, very serious situation.  Normally, most corn in the Dakotas and Minnesota is considered to be “mature” by now, but this year we are facing a completely different scenario.

According to the latest USDA Crop Progress Report, only 22 percent of the corn in North Dakota is considered to be “mature” at this point…

Many farmers continue to wait on the sidelines to get into the fields. With freezing temperatures, heavy snowfall, and high winds set to hit the northern Plains this week, the corn in North Dakota is only 22% mature vs. a 75% five-year average, according to Monday’s USDA Crop Progress Report.

Also, South Dakota corn is rated 36% mature vs. an 80% five-year average. Minnesota farmers have a corn crop that is just 39% mature vs. an 83% five-year average.

And now here comes an “all-out blizzard”.

In case you are wondering, I am not the one that put such an extreme label on this storm.  In fact, Accuweather is specifically using that term to describe this historic storm…

An unusually far-reaching snowstorm for early October will stall, strengthen and evolve into an “all-out blizzard” over the Dakotas and then will send a blast of cold air across much of the Plains and Midwest.

Heavy snow has already fallen on the northern Rockies and was progressing southeastward along with a charge of cold air. Snow and slippery travel were also being reported in parts of Washington state, including around Spokane where new daily snowfall record for Oct. 8 was set. Spokane International Airport recorded 3.3 inches of snow Tuesday, shattering the previous record for the day, which was a trace set in 1981.

It is crazy that Spokane is already getting snow.

According to Yahoo News, that snowfall already makes this the “third-snowiest October” that the city has ever experienced…

Spokane, Washington, was one town that was hit particularly hard by the snow on Tuesday. A record-breaking 3.3 inches of snow fell, the first measurable snow in the month of October since 2001. It also made this month the third-snowiest October on record, following 3.9 inches in October of 1975 and 6.1 inches in October of 1957.

Ultimately, a few inches of snow is not that big of a deal.

But once this storm reaches the middle of the country, it is going to dump up to 2 feet of snow on some of our most important agricultural areas…

A general 6-12 inches is forecast over much of the Dakotas. However, a large swath of 12-24 inches is likely with an AccuWeather Local StormMax™ of 30 inches likely from north-central North Dakota to central and northeastern North Dakota.

Cities that could end up with 2 feet of snow include Bismarck, Jamestown and Devils Lake, North Dakota, as well as Mobridge, South Dakota, and Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Needless to say, that much snow at this time of the year is going to be absolutely devastating for many farmers.

And we are being told that this coming storm actually has “two parts”.  After the first part strikes, the second part is going to come rolling through on Friday and Saturday

The storm will have two parts, the first of which is targeting the northern and central Rockies and High Plains on Wednesday into Thursday. The second part will bring snow to the eastern and central portions of the Dakotas and western Minnesota by week’s end.

“Near-blizzard to full-fledged blizzard conditions are possible across portions of central North Dakota Friday afternoon into Saturday morning,” the weather service in Bismarck said. “Expect high impacts and dangerous to impossible travel conditions.”

I can’t even imagine how corn and soybean farmers are going to feel once their unharvested fields are buried under two feet of snow.

As I keep warning, weather patterns just continue to become more extreme, and many believe that what we have witnessed so far is just the beginning of our problems (#ad).

There is one more thing that I would like to mention before I wrap up this article.

Do you remember the “Perfect Storm” that we witnessed in the Atlantic Ocean back in 1991?  Hollywood made a big movie about it, and that film ended up making more than 300 million dollars worldwide.

Well, according to Accuweather a very similar storm is now developing in roughly the same location…

Interestingly, around the same time in 1991, the “Perfect Storm” was in the making over the western Atlantic Ocean. There are some similarities to the pattern this week with a smaller storm taking shape and stalling just off the mid-Atlantic and New England coasts.

I found this to be particularly interesting, because I wrote an article about “the perfect storm” that is about to hit America just a few days ago.  If you missed it, you can find my article entitled “The Book Is About To Close On The Late Great United States Of America” right here.

We live in truly unprecedented times, and things are about to start getting really crazy out there.

So get prepared for “the perfect storm” while you still can, because time is quickly running out.
