Detroit Has Gone From Being The Greatest Manufacturing City In The World To A Global Joke

Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Google+Share on LinkedInShare on StumbleUponEmail this to someone

The Ruins Of Detroit - Photo by CsmcmIn 1960, the city of Detroit was the greatest manufacturing city that the world had ever seen.  Nearly two million people lived there, and it had the highest per capita income in the United States.  That may be hard to believe, because today it actually has one of the lowest per capita incomes of all of our major cities.  Over the decades more than a million people have left the city, and thousands of abandoned homes have been torn down.  But there are still tens of thousands of abandoned dwellings that remain standing, and some have sold for as little as one dollar in recent years.  Once Detroit was the envy of the entire planet, but now it has become a global joke and in other countries they love to do news stories about “the ruins of Detroit” to show how rapidly America is rotting and decaying.  Sadly, Detroit is far from alone, because there are other formerly great manufacturing cities that have declined just as fast as Detroit has.

Earlier today, I came across a video that contains footage that someone recently captured as they drove through the city of Detroit at night.  To say that the footage is disturbing would be a tremendous understatement

It has become known as a mecca of violent crime and poverty, and now a viral video is giving an unpleasant view of Detroit after dark.

The clip, called Driving through Detroit at night, was filmed by a woman who was a passenger in a car going around the Motor City and was posted to Twitter at the weekend.

It shows terrifying scenes of gangs gathered on the sidewalk, prostitutes lifting up their skirts and dancing, and even a man being run over by a car on purpose.

I would have liked to share the video with you all, but it is just way too graphic.  There really are prostitutes lifting up their skirts in the video, and a man really is hit by a vehicle.  If you want to watch it for yourself, it is very easy to find on YouTube.  But please be warned that children should not be watching this.

If you live in a peaceful rural or suburban setting, the kind of behavior displayed in this video may seem very foreign to you.  In America today, it is way too easy to allow our televisions to define reality for us.  But the warped view of reality that we get through our televisions is nothing like the real world.  The real world is cold, cruel and very unforgiving.

If you are in the wrong place at the wrong time, the real world will eat you alive.

In the city of Detroit today, close to half the population is functionally illiterate, and one survey found that 60 percent of all children in the city are living in poverty.  It has been reported that 40 percent of the street lights do not work, and as you can see from the video it is a very frightening place to be after dark.

And don’t count on the police to help you.  The size of the police force in Detroit has been reduced by about 40 percent over the years, and it has been estimated that it takes the Detroit police an average of 58 minutes to respond to a call.

If it was just one major city where all of these things were happening, that would be bad enough.

Sadly, the truth is that what is happening in Detroit is happening all over the nation.  In fact, St. Louis and Memphis now have higher gun crime rates than Detroit does

The listing places St Louis above the notoriously dangerous Detroit which has topped the list in previous years thanks to the city’s high gun crime rate.

Detroit is now listed as third after Memphis, Tennessee which had 84.2 violent crimes per 10,000 residents.

Birmingham, Alabama comes in fourth place with 82.8 violent crimes per 10,000 residents while Rockford, Illinois was fifth with a rate of 76.3.

Earlier this month, we saw how a major city such as Milwaukee can erupt in flames in just a matter of hours.  And in Chicago, some of the major gangs have agreed to use automatic weapons and sniper fire in their battle against the police.

A spirit of chaos and violence has descended on America, and things are going to get much worse during the months and years to come.

Meanwhile, crime continues to rise in our smaller cities and in our suburbs as well.  For a moment, I want you to consider a short excerpt from a recent Bloomberg article entitled “Walmart’s Out-of-Control Crime Problem Is Driving Police Crazy“…

The call log on the store stretches 126 pages, documenting more than 5,000 trips over the past five years. Last year police were called to the store and three other Tulsa Walmarts just under 2,000 times. By comparison, they were called to the city’s four Target stores about 300 times. Most of the calls to the northeast Supercenter were for shoplifting, but there’s no shortage of more serious crimes, including five armed robberies so far this year, a murder suspect who killed himself with a gunshot to the head in the parking lot last year, and, in 2014, a group of men who got into a parking lot shootout that killed one and seriously injured two others.

Police reports from dozens of stores suggest the number of petty crimes committed on Walmart properties nationwide this year will be in the hundreds of thousands.

Did you catch that?

This Bloomberg report says that there will be “hundreds of thousands” of crimes just committed at Wal-Mart stores alone this year.

If people are behaving like this while times are still relatively stable and relatively good, what would things look like during a real crisis?

Many people openly wonder what happened to Detroit, but it really isn’t much of a mystery at all.

Over the decades, our politicians have stood idly by as tens of thousands of businesses and millions of good paying jobs have left the country.  Our economic infrastructure has been absolutely gutted, and as a result formerly great manufacturing cities have become rotting, decaying hellholes.

And it certainly doesn’t help that voters in many of these cities have willingly chosen to put radical leftists into power time after time.

Unfortunately, it appears that the nation as a whole is about to hand the keys to the White House to a radical leftist that has a violent temper that is absolutely legendary.  If she gets into power, that might just be the final nail in our coffin.

What has already happened to Detroit is slowly happening to the entire country, but we never seem to learn from our past mistakes.

So now we will suffer the consequences for our very foolish decisions, and it will not be pretty.

  • aldownunder

    Very sad
    Good luck too all

  • rentslave

How much of Detroit’s former African-American population now living in other states will be voting absentee?

  • alan

My back fence is Walmarts back fence, Yikes! Well our area is pretty quiet, we don’t seem to have much going on here.

Chicago should be the next to die a slow death.

    • kfilly

Chicago, Baltimore, Milwaukee, Cleveland, Philadelphia, Las Angeles, Seattle, Denver, Boston, New York, Saint Louis, Cincinnatti

Pick any city above. I am also sure that I missed quite a few. They are all broke and dying. They are all also fighting to be first in line to die.

      • MeMadMax

Not salt lake, our tech industry is booming, california’s screwball…. gov’ment is our gain…

      • Mark

Not Cincinnati… we have a Streetcar now to take folks from downtown to the slum area. That’s supposed to revive that area.

      • LIZ THE SHIZ

hey, I live near Boston, we may be de-flated but certainly not dying

  • greanfinisher .

Heck, even in the mid 60’s, that rat trap of a city wasn’t safe to drive through period.

  • Redlucy

Things have been accelerating at rapid fire pace the past few years and months….this “thing”has begun and there will be no stopping it now….pray for your families, pray for your friends. These are dark times we are entering. Laugh it off if you will, but never forget that you were warned when things get ugly (uglier). The USA will have her feet put to the fire for all the transgressions that have been and are being permitted…..often with open arms.
The plan that the left has used is genius. Keeping people on the dole and making false promises….for SOME reason, it proved to be a complete success. The destruction of the family, also genius. If you take away the cornerstone, the building eventually crumbles……No one believes in sacrifice, humility is non-existent. We are now “re-defining” what God made perfectly, human gender and sexuality. Please don’t give me any crap about that either. God does not make mistakes. Some people ARE called to chastity and sacrifice in that way…..The problem is that our shepherds have sacrificed the flock. So many are lost without the masters voice to lead them out of the wilderness.
I am rambling and for that I apologize, but I am also so sad about what is happening. My country is being decimated.

    • David C. Yaros

Amen…You hit every nail on the head. It’s all part of satan’s plan to destroy the family unit and ultimately destroy society.

      • BelieveInCod

I don’t believe in god, but I believe in Cod.

    • SnodtBlossom

You ARE rambling. What’s more it’s disconnected from the article AND reality.
“the nation as a whole is about to hand the keys to the White House to a radical leftist that has a violent temper that is absolutely legendary.”
You know Michael can double as a preacher AND a stand-up comedienne. 😀

      • LIZ THE SHIZ

Michael is a “comedienne”? did you hear that on the transgender pipeline?

    • beezh

@Redlucy, you are correct…what you wrote is the reality of what has been happening, and relevant to the article. Rambling? Nah. You needn’t have apologized.

    • Mark McNamara

That`s a great comment Redlucy and you do not need to apologise.

    • Babycatcher

Amen to that. We each need to make sure we are where God wants us to be, doing what He wants us to do, however small it may seem to us. It may be the ticket to survival.

  • K

For those who can not leave the cities. You better have your route out prepared. Along with a couple of alternates. When things really start rolling. There will be no long term survival in the cities.

    • kfilly

I agree. I live in a city of about 50k. I live about a half mile from the outskirts of town. I can cut through a small road through the nearby high school football field and be out of town fairly quickly or to train tracks that will get me out of town in a concealed manner if I have to leave on foot. There are no large communities around my city. Once I am gone, it is farm fields and very small towns until I am at my BOL.

      • SnodtBlossom

        nobody knows what you said

        • kfilly

It was not a reply to you. Just because you were not smart enough to understand it doesn’t mean everyone else did not get it.

          • K

I had no trouble understanding you.

          • kfilly

Thanks, I figured you would not have had a problem with comprehension unlike the resident Hillary supporter.

          • SnodtBlossom

            Hillary 2016! 😀

          • Uzal Roberts

            Ignorant troll^^^^

          • SnodtBlossom

            Nobody understood it except K

          • kfilly

The smart people understand it. The slower ones did not get it. I totally see which category you are in and why you are supporting a socialist dictatorship.

    • SnodtBlossom

I moved into the city in February and got a great job! Now I can walk to Walmart, my car shop, and anything else I could need.

      • none

Can you find a woman lifting her skirt up, under a sign. That says “The Green Cure “?

        • SnodtBlossom

They’re around, but really I’m rather against that sort of thing.

      • YoAmigo

Feeling safe and being safe are two different things.

      • jaxon64

Congrats on finding a great job–hope it works out well for you and brings some joy into your darkness.

    • leo

I don’t plan on making it out. I’ll go down guns blazing. I don’t want to live in that world.

      • K

Sad to hear that. My main purpose for survival, is to pass on what I know. To make a difference, one last time.Is there no one, you would want to live for? What is so great about this society? That you would rather die, than lose it? Live, and accomplish something. Or die and accomplish nothing.

        • Chef Sp

It depends. Some people are right on that cusp where it’s too late in life to start over new….but too young to not enjoy a little ass-kickin’ on the way out. I call it the MAnC Curve (Middle-Aged ‘n CRazY) curve…not to be confused with the Mac n’ Cheese Curve…which is shares a similar acronym..

Please do not give up Leo and if things get very crazy then at least make plans to get out without hurting anyone.

  • GSOB

The OT Scriptures means more to Christians than it did to the people of the OT, …………………………..for we live in the light of their fulfillment.

    1 Peter 1:11

    • watchmannonthewall

      So true!

Even Paul spoke of the importance of the OT to the people at Corinth, you know, that Gentile Church? “Nevertheless, with most of them God was not well-pleased; for they were laid low in the wilderness (prophetic to our day!)…Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for OUR instruction, UPON WHOM THE ENDS OF THE AGES HAVE COME.” (1 Cor. 10:5 & 11)

I’m not sure how this instruction would apply to us today if today’s doctrine the OT has no application to our lives is correct, but who knows? Maybe Paul was wrong?

My brother, a leader in the church I used to attend, tells me born-again Christians can’t sin any more. Seems if this is true Paul’s statement has/had no application to us. Any idea why Paul would warn us about us about something that can’t happen, by telling us to pay attention to the examples of God’s discipline on His people in the past?

Not sure when that changed but apparently it hadn’t yet changed, at least to Paul’s knowledge, as of at least 25 years after the death and resurrection of Yeshua which is about when 1 Corintians was written.
Lots more in the OT for today, also!!

      • larrythelogger

What scriptural reference does your brother give to prove Paul said Christians can’t sin anymore? Romans 1 – 2:1 among dozens of others proves otherwise and of course that was written by Paul. Believers can and do sin and the Scriptures are replete with that fact.

        • GSOB

          Romans 6:2

          • larrythelogger

Not one of those passages say that believers no longer sin after salvation. You mistake Paul’s admonishments to the Jewish believers and their Judaizing to Roman Gentile believers untrained in the OT levitical system with some strange inability for believers to sin after salvation. In addition, I think you might believe I think that it’s okay to sin after salvation. I do not. However, we still have an old sin nature after salvation and God has provision for malfunction after salvation.

Because of Christ’s work on the cross, is why we’re dead to sin. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is the power that allows us to live in a way that pleases God but it in no way means we no longer sin after salvation. Pointing to unbelievers like those in Rome and by comparison, assuming that we’re “better” than the unbelievers is NOT pleasing to God. Paul makes that clear in Rom 2:1.

Who was Paul talking to in Romans? Romans 1:7. Who was Paul talking to in Romans 2:1 when he said, “Therefore you are inexcusable, O man, whoever you are who judge, for in whatever you judge another you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things. 2 But we know that the judgment of God is according to truth against those who practice such things. 3 And do you think this, O man, you who judge those practicing such things, and doing the same, that you will escape the judgment of God?” Romans 1:7; He was talking to believers.

Many Christians are going to be surprised at the Bema when all they receive is a naked resurrection body and live outside the New Jerusalem (after the Millennial Kingdom). God’s judgment on believers does NOT mean loss of salvation, nor does it mean the silly, “Well, they were never saved in the first place” nonsense. It means loss of eternal rewards.

The Living Bible completely misses the context of Peter’s audience. They were new Jewish Christians scattered throughout Asia after escaping Jerusalem’s persecution of new Christians. Concerned and confused about their persecution, Peter encourages them by telling them God placed them exactly where they are (basically, they were the “tip of the spear” for the new church age) and that by being faithful to God resulting in unbelievers and their persecutors seeing their resultant fruits, the Gentile unbelievers would see the reason for believing in Christ as well. That matters to the context of the rest of the book and its application to you and I right now. Not being able to sin after salvation is NOT what Peter was ever talking about.

So, do believers sin after salvation? 1 John 1:8-10. It doesn’t get any clearer than that.

        • watchmannonthewall

I pologize for the long wait. Was thinking about going back in my saved emails to 5-6 years ago to pull exact information but just too much already going on and since we emailed back and forth quite a bit for a time, it might take a while.
I will give you want I can recall. I believe it was Col. 2:13-14, ‘And when you were dead in your transgressions and uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us of all our transgressions, having cancelled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us and which was hostile to us; He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross [in his opinion, the Mosaic Law was nailed to the cross].”
His reasoning went along this line: Once he determined the Mosaic Law has been nailed to the cross and by such, put to death, there is no longer an objective biblical standard which one must comply with that identifies sin. Sin, for the believer ,has been forever extinguished through the death of the Mosaic Law, because the Law used to define sin, but now that it is extinct, it does so no longer.
Additional reasonings included the fact Jesus is the Prophet like unto Moses beecause Moses gave us the Law but Jesus took it away. When I pointed out these two claims were completely opposite one another, it was dismissed as my not being able to undersand how Jesus and Moses were like one another. Say huh?
Another disagreement we had was he claimed God set up the Jews and Israel to destroy them by giving them the Law since He was so angry with them. Again, when I pointed out that God made a covenant with the three fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and gave it to their descendents because He said He loved them, keep in mind the obedience of the nation of Israel was a term of the covenant, he again dismissed this as being an obvious ploy since he eventually sent them in to captivity and scattered them throughout the earth.

And Trump is going to bring back jobs to this hell hole? The “rust belt” cities are not redeemable. Go figure. The big labor unions are supporting Hillary at least the leadership is. Of course she is a radical leftist–read some articles and even photocopies of her letters to her hero Saul Alinsky–she is a full blown Cultural Marxist. Remember that Margaret Sanger, the eugenicist and progressive was ” one of the three greatest influences on my life.’

One day, menial labor was shipped out to such places as China and Bangladesh. Thousands of workers were abandoned, because twenty dollars an hour is far beyond reasonable compensation for manufacturers of cheap products. After all, we are talking about things such as Chevrolet, cheap clothes and household goods, not Veblen goods such as Rolex and Cartier.

The fact of the matter is that Detroits state is beneficial, not deleterious, to millions of consumers. It is cheaper to make it in China in comparison to the U.S. The U.S. has no heritage in the creation of high quality luxury goods, or cars; therefore, it is only reasonable that the capitalist would outsource labor. The beneficiaries of outsourcing are those in the corporate suite, but more importantly–us as consumers.

Violent crime and property crimes are inexcusable, repugnant, and worthy only of detestation. The absence of jobs is not a justification to kill innocent people and rob those who work. The pettiness of these practitioners of savagery is appalling–especially to people such as me who generally don’t witness atrocities in a neighborhood with houses that are 7,000 sq. ft. and up. Crime is usually unheard of in affluent area. If I went to Detroit, I would traverse that wasteland in an armored vehicle, preferably a sedan.

Import Duties on Foreign Cars designed to protect US Car Makers, just rewarded Inefficient Car Makers. This was dumbest thing they could have done. Import Duties then Free Trade Agreements is a death sentance for Inefficent Manutacturers, but people think it’s great because they get cheaper stuff.

Detroit never found a way to diversify it’s manufacturing industry. As the big three auto manufacturers started moving out of Detroit in the ’70’s, the city never looked to fill the void. The workers who were able to move and who were smart enough to realize those jobs were not coming back, left to find work elsewhere. Just as there was a mass immigration to the Detroit area in the 50’s and 60’s, it turned to a slow emigration up until now. Other big cities have issues, but Detroit is like an old mining town where the gold has simply been depleted.

  • Doug Crawford

what you have is a growing population of people with little education and few job skills. As a result they seek the city and inner city as places to live because its a cheap place to rent. Because of that, people in “the same boat” adopt a herd mentality. They drop into the dynamics of a tribe with a dominent figure, who generally is “not for the right thing”.

Sometimes I wonder if the words in the Bible are truly the word of God. Some the quotes below from the Bible are just inhuman and evil:

No. 1:St Paul’s advice about whether women are allowed to teach men in church:
“I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.” (1 Timothy 2:12)

No. 2: In this verse, Samuel, one of the early leaders of Israel, orders genocide against a neighbouring people:
“This is what the Lord Almighty says… ‘Now go and strike Amalek and devote to destruction all that they have. Do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’” (1 Samuel 15:3)

No. 3: A command of Moses:
“Do not allow a sorceress to live.” (Exodus 22:18)

No. 4: The ending of Psalm 137, a psalm which was made into a disco calypso hit by Boney M, is often omitted from readings in church:
“Happy is he who repays you for what you have done to us – he who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks.” (Psalm 137:9)
No. 5: Another blood-curdling tale from the Book of Judges, where an Israelite man is trapped in a house by a hostile crowd, and sends out his concubine to placate them:
“So the man took his concubine and sent her outside to them, and they raped her and abused her throughout the night, and at dawn they let her go. At daybreak the woman went back to the house where her master was staying, fell down at the door and lay there until daylight. When her master got up in the morning and opened the door of the house and stepped out to continue on his way, there lay his concubine, fallen in the doorway of the house, with her hands on the threshold. He said to her, ‘Get up; let’s go.’ But there was no answer. Then the man put her on his donkey and set out for home.” (Judges 19:25-28)

No. 6: St Paul condemns homosexuality in the opening chapter of the Book of Romans:
“In the same way also the men, giving up natural intercourse with women, were consumed with passion for one another. Men committed shameless acts with men and received in their own persons the due penalty for their error.” (Romans 1:27)

No. 7: In this story from the Book of Judges, an Israelite leader, Jephthah, makes a rash vow to God, which has to be carried out:
“And Jephthah made a vow to the Lord, and said, ‘If you will give the Ammonites into my hand, then whoever comes out of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return victorious from the Ammonites, shall be the Lord’s, to be offered up by me as a burnt-offering.’ Then Jephthah came to his home at Mizpah; and there was his daughter coming out to meet him with timbrels and with dancing. She was his only child; he had no son or daughter except her. When he saw her, he tore his clothes, and said, ‘Alas, my daughter! You have brought me very low; you have become the cause of great trouble to me. For I have opened my mouth to the Lord, and I cannot take back my vow.’” (Judges 11:30-1, 34-5)

No. 8: The Lord is speaking to Abraham in this story where God commands him to sacrifice his son:
‘Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt-offering on one of the mountains that I shall show you.’ (Genesis 22:2)

No. 9: “Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.” (Ephesians 5:22)

No. 10: “Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle but also to the cruel.” (1 Peter 2:18)

      • Preacher62

Not understanding which of these you consider to be inhumane and evil? The only evil is that which is done apart from God and his will.
        1. Women operate based upon emotions therefore leadership is not their forte.
        2. Sometimes evil people must be eradicated in order to protect your own family.
        3. Obviously, duh
        4. The revenge that God will pour out on those who persecute his chosen.
        5. An analogy of what mankind looks like once they have been abandoned by God. Sexual deviancy.
        6. Shameless is as shameless does. Pretty simple.
        7. A warning to be very careful of what you vow as God will not take such lightly.
        8. A test of faith which all true believers are confronted with and many fail. God provides but first one must prove their faithfulness, The statement I constantly put on these boards is to seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and he will give you everything you need. One must actually do what God says before God will fulfill his part of the promise.
        9. Applies only to those families which belong to God and those families already know that such is the correct way.
        10. If you rebel against your boss then your life is going to be much harder. Most slaves in scripture were self indentured in order to pay off debts or to gain room and board. If you are a slave, you might as well make the most of it. Life is short and eternity is more to be concerned with anyway.

If you repent and believe the Gospel you can be saved and then you can understand the scriptures. Until you are converted they will always be foolishness.

I appreciate the long post. I’m sure you and I would probably have a different opinion on each one. And I’m sure you probably think you know the absolute truth and speak directly for God. I am a little more humble than you when it comes for speaking for God. That said, you don’t think there’s something not quite right with the killing of children in Samuel 15:3. Children are innocent. Therefore, some of the words in the Bible are from men not God is my point. If you think our God will kill innocent children then there’s your explanation why Christianity is on a 30 year decline. The morality in the Bible is part of an historical context. The message morality is important is still important. But I think the Bible has to be read with the historical context in mind. An even so, I do not see any context in which killing innocent children is considered morally okay.

          • Preacher62

NONE are innocent. All are God’s creation. Who are you to question your creator? Should a creator not be allowed to do as he wishes with that which he created? The longer you continue on the path you are on the further from the truth you will end up. God is God which means God is in charge and can do as he wishes.

I do understand where you are coming from, and would like to expound on the first point about women.

There are many verses in the bible that are taken out of context concerning women and their roles. I agree on one point, that most women do operate on emotions. God created women to be emotional and it was good. It was good for motherhood and good for the husband when the emotions were spiritually based.
without spirituality in an woman, the emotions can easily get out of control. Most women, under those unfortunate circumstances are not good for leadership roles. I have had the unforgettable and regrettable experiences of having three different women as “superiors” in the work place, and not keeping a clean spiritual heart at the forefront of those positions, they caused chaos and controversy.

However; there are times and situations and exceptionally strong willed, spirit filled women, that out perform the men in almost every situation.

Take Deborah in the book of Judges; she became a judge and caused a whole town to come to salvation. She was a soldier for Christ and had more bravery than any of the thousands of men in the armies. Admittedly she was one of a rare breed of women, but influenced many.
One of those was Jael, when she invited, Sisera, a great enemy army leader into her tent and offered him some cool buttermilk, which sent him into sleep mode and she drove his head into the earth by driving a tent stake all the way thru his temples.
That took some big tamales, on her part.

So, from where I sit, I can see a few women that I would much rather be aligned with in battle, than most whimpy men; be it physical battle or spiritual. A couple, I had much rather listen to in a preaching/teaching situation as any man.
God loves the women as He made them, with their emotions, and so do I. God especially loves His dedicated Christian women soldiers, and so do I.
I will stand with those women on the truth side, to the death.

I also agree that a Godly woman is better to be in charge than a hundred wimpy men.

We don’t need to defend our God or the Bible. We are messengers of peace. Our God is a God of peace.
Christ is the Prince of Peace.
What you should focus on is preparing yourself to meet Him.
Each one of us has an appointment with death. Your sin will be paid for by your death. That is why you die.
You are not able to say that Christ died for your sin because you don’t acknowledge what God has said about all men,…. that they sin.
The sins you have committed will be accounted for, you will be condemned and perish.
            No escape.
Whether you believe in God or the Bible isn’t is not going to change your destiny. Only Jesus saves. Only Jesus.
You must believe the Gospel and repent from of your manner of living,….. a life of sinning, unbelief and eventually – eternal death, ….. repent and and be baptized.

df NJ, these are valid questions. Maybe good to know that God didn’t meant it to be this way when he created Adam and Eve. The deeds descrived in the book Judges are made by men, not God. And this was a time when everybody did as they liked, just as nowadays.

The reason why the Old Testament is so harsh on the Kanaanites (e.g. the Ammonites) is that these people worshipped the Devil and were a real threat for the people of Israel and living together with them would destroy more lives in the end. The consequences of living together with the Kanaanites and copying their lifestyle can be read in the book of Kings. As for the quotes from Paul, I think they should be read in relation to the Roman times. For me the most important is what Jesus has said. And what he says is crystal clear. Hope that this short explanation helps you in your search.

        • JC Teecher

Not to be argumentative, but; for sake of biblical enlightenment, people need to understand that there are three different groups/tribes/bloodlines that you speak of here.

First; you use the letter K as spelling of Canaanites. I believe you have confused the Canaanites with the Kennites.

The Canaanites were the result of Ham and his incestious act of sex with his mother, Noah’s wife. They were a mixed bunch of peoples that had mixed with the Raphiam, the offspring of the Fallen Angels/Nephilim; and with the Kenites, which were the direct descendants of Cain, the offspring of Eve and Satan.

Wonder why God wanted them wiped off the face of the earth and also directly away from the tribes of Israel as they received the Covenant land of Israel? That was the main reason, and because they were worshiping Idols.

The Ammonites were descendants of Ammon/BenAmmi, the result of copulation between Lot and one of his daughters, after the fall of Sodom and the many cities that practiced homosexuality and other abominations.
Yes they settled around and near the areas that later became known as Canaan, and later Israel, and yes they mixed with other peoples, but were not recognized as Canaanites or Kennites, even though they also worshiped Idols.

          Hope this helps.

Not a Christian, myself, but I know that often you can’t simply pull verses out of context without distorting them.

I have an insight on the gender-role issue that might be of interest. Not very long ago, I read a clarification of the meaning of the words of God to Adam & Eve after their fall from grace. God said that woman would have desire for man, but that he would rule over her. Strange juxtaposition — until you know the meaning of the words in the original Hebrew. The desire spoken of is the desire to dominate. With that understood, the propriety of the juxtaposition is obvious.

I believe that male and female attributes manifest themselves in men and women, respectively, within a wide range. Someone else in this thread mentioned the Hebrew woman who became a judge, suggesting that such things, while not the norm, are possible. There are strong women and weak men. There are rational women and emotional men. But, generally speaking, I believe there are norms for each gender within which most will fall.

Feminism worked great evil in American culture — not because injustice didn’t exist, but because, to address that injustice, it chose a strategy based on the lie that gender differences are artificial. The correct course would have been to educate people on the natural strengths and weaknesses of each gender and develop strategies for fostering complementary cooperation rather than antagonistic competition between the genders. In the course of such education, the value of contributions would naturally be re-assessed, and parity would be reached in an atmosphere of cooperation rather than competition. Unhappily, that is not the course our culture took.

I grew up in Detroit, my dad worked for Conrail railroad and I remember him going to work in the 70’s carrying a shotgun to work.I heard all the stories about shootouts with the gangs on the tracks and this was 40 years ago.I do not live there anymore, we moved about 50 miles away in the 80’s.I still live in that small community we moved into. But I still remember the school lock downs because of a gunman in the school.I have one memory that makes me mad to this day, I just got a new pair of converse basket ball shoes and in school I had to fight off three black kids that tried to literally steel them off my feet. If my buddies would not of stepped in they would of got them, cause I took quite a beating holding on to them and trying to fight them off.Now when I go to Detroit for business or sports games I hate it. It has become a waste land. All the factory’s are family and friends worked at are vacant. Most of the family and friends moved back to Kentucky. The rest of us migrated west still in Michigan.

In comparison, our large county in the southern Appalachians has been hit with major job losses since NAFTA. The majority of the Manufacturing jobs are gone. The textile and furniture companies either folded after NAFTA or consolidated and moved.

Half of all jobs during the 60’s,70’s, and 80’s, were in these two manufacturing segments, or tied to them. What happened over a ten year period of the decline? Most of the large buildings were torn down, remain empty, or are used as warehousing for nearly nothing. People learned to adapt, relocated work, or retired early. Despite all the odds, the county finally grew back to the average employment numbers, and even took in more Hispanics as laborers.
During the period of rebuilding and regrowth, we gained triple the numbers of Hispanics, to a county wide average of 5.5% of the roughly 70,000 residents.
The black population has stayed about the same at about 4 %. Would the rebuilding have taken place with a larger population of blacks. Yes, because the majority of the population try to live by Christian principles.
We don’t have black crime rates. We don’t have Hispanic crime rates. We do have a majority of poor white trash and drug influenced crime rates.

The main point is this: Idle hands become the devils workshop.

    Ecc 4:5
The fool foldeth his hands together, and eateth his own flesh.
Which is to say; a lazy person soon becomes dependent upon others or will go hungry.

If you think otherwise you are delusional. If Republicans were genuine, then they would have made abortion illegal between 2001-2007 when they controlled all three branches of government. I just don’t understand how a bill banning abortion was not passed during that period.

When I was young, no stores or gas stations were open on Sunday and most folks went to church. The influence of Christianity guided society and you could walk anywhere at night, except in small areas where evil was getting a foot-hold. People and the youth respected each other and cared about each other. I liked our country a lot better then. Fiddlin

Detroit has only itself to blame [1] letting the UAW control the auto industry workplace where it encouraged lack of motivation, complacency and unreasonable monetary demands drive manufacturing out of the country .
[2] the auto industry itself where design and manufacturing where dictated by bean counters and out of touch marketing departments creating poorly made products that nobody wanted along with not seeing the Japanese and Koreans eating their market share
[3] allowing an influx of a poorer educated population depending on government benefits rather than upward mobility to become the majority and sustained by voting Great Society Democrats who promised a free lunch for ever if you kept them in office.

So you don’t think Chinese currency manipulation doesn’t have anything to do with it? The Chinese have pegged the Yuan 6 to 1 against the dollar. This means a CEO gets 6 Chinese workers for every one American. This is why all our factories have closed. There’s a reason why everything is made in China! The Chinese have destroyed this country with their currency manipulation. We should nuke the yellow bastards!

      • goldminer

Yeah its all China,s fault. The mass exodus of business in the USA has nothing to do with the USA having the highest tax rates in the world, Overbearing and unaffordable government regulations, and Forced payment of unaffordable health care. Nope. Its all China’s fault. Business only reason for leaving USA is all that cheap labor.

      • LIZ THE SHIZ

Chinese currency manipulation is a recent tactic [ last 30 years] but our problems started way before , you could point to Nixon’s visit to China as the beginning with Mr NWO Henry Kissinger doing the bidding of the globalists and once the banksters set up shop in China then their old currency manipulation scheme came into play.

I watched that footage and it saddens me greatly and I have watched more footage of that once great city and my opinion is that it has come to that because of greed greed and more greed by the banks and politicians who just seem to want every dollar and dime on the planet. I live in a place called Sunderland in the north east of England and it has a few problems but nowhere on the scale of Detroit and the part where I live a person can walk about freely at night without the fear of being robbed or shot or whatever so I have to thank my lucky stars so to speak that I live in a sought after area. One of my ambitions in life is to come over to America and go to many of the famous cities and see all the great landmarks but when I see footage like that and the various shootings what I see and read about in the media then it can be a bit off putting so to speak. Anyway why cant the government input billions of dollars into these communities and at the very least lift the spirits up for all these people because there is still hope for everyone.

Saw the clip on youtube. Not nice but not really shocking, I have seen heavier stuff in real life. I didn’t show it to my children because they already dislike the USA from what they have seen on tv and heared on radio and this will only make it worse. Far more interesting is the clip

“Detroit Real Time Ride-Along” on youtube. Gives a better idea about what is going on.

In 1992 I read the book “The machine that changed the world” from Womack, Roos & Jones. It compared the USA car industry with Toyota. This book was the start of lean thinking around the Western industry. After reading it my conclusion was that GM would fail because of cultural problems. And so it did.

Bill, you have heard me poke fun at dfNJ over his bi-polar episodes, which, as I am witnessing is becoming more prevalent?

He speaks positive about Christians one day, and the next he is speaking negatively.
He speaks positive about the bible one day, and the next he speaks negatively.

Jesus taught that a person of this personality is like unto a reed shaken by the wind.
He bends this way with this crowd when the mood changes, and then bends that way with another crowd when the mood changes, again.

Christ doesn’t want people that change with the wind. He wants those that are steadfast, and standing on the Rock of Ages, unlike a spindly reed standing in water.

Hey df NJ……. I guess God is also cruel to the area I live in, S. Ill. The thing is, we as Christians are to be content with what we have. That can be difficult of course, but is the way it is oftentimes. God meets our needs, not our wants. Hey, sure…… I would like more in earthly terms. But I’m learning to be content with what I and my family have and thankful for God’s protection and most importantly eternal salvation through His Son Jesus. We store up treasures in Heaven. Treasures here are temporary, Heavenly treasures are eternal. Personally…….. when I get to Heaven, WOW! That will be reward enough! The first second of direct presence with God in eternity will be reward enough. 🙂 Words cannot describe. ……… Please consider Christ as your Savior. Please. Chris.

Marx claimed capitalism’s systemic flaws would result in the people becoming socialists. Google and watch the video “Marxism 101: How Capitalism is Killing Itself with Dr. Richard Wolff” for an explanation of what Marx was saying. All great countries and empires fail sooner or later. Usually from the inside out. We are well into the collapse of the US at this point. Of course, you also have Europe and the Middle East going crazy. Putin now believes the Russians can survive a nuclear war. The Mad Man of North Korea is just itching to nuke someone, anyone, just to show he can. It’s an interesting time to be alive. The fun and games are just getting started.

    • df NJ

Maybe the reason why the ME is going crazy is because in 2015 the US dropped 23,000 bombs in 5 predominately Muslim countries.

  • Orac4Prez

This article sounds like a lament. Hey, I thought Americans were supposed to have a “Can Do” spirit! West Germany took over the decaying ruins of East Germany and places like Bitterfeld were transformed. It didn’t happen overnight. Yes, businesses will fail, but the Government needs to act in a determined way to help rebuild the country as well. You need to get some Engineers and Applied Scientists who actually make stuff on board (and in Congress) and not belittle them and criticise them. All you guys complain about is cost. But take a company like Caterpillar. There equipment isn’t bought because its the cheapest or fanciest looking. It works because there products are the best for the market they serve…. By a Country mile! Quit the self pity. America can still be great! …And no I’m not American

    • goldminer

Caterpillar? They have suffered declining revenues for almost 4 years now. They are in the process of closing one of their plants and laying off nearly 200 workers.
Caterpillar witnessed widespread weakness across all geographic areas in Q2 2016, with sales from the North America, Asia Pacific, and EAME regions each slipping by mid-teen percentages. Latin America, however, was the weakest link, with sales tumbling 31% year over year. Caterpillar’s construction and energy and transportation businesses reported 32% and 38% lower sales, respectively, from the region.
But compaired to Cummins Cat is doing slightly better in sales. Neither are a company I would invest in right now. Their only hope is mining. with gold taking off they may make some sales. But the Miners are wary of this uptick in glod price and not buying right now. They are hoarding their cash, paying off debit, and waiting for better times to buy equipment.
Oh and BTW Komatsu and Hitachi make great equipment too.

      • Orac4Prez

Im not denying that mining is currently faltering, but the biggest miners are not going for cheap crap. It has to last and be reliable. Every industry goes through cycles and some like semiconductors I suspect have reached their peak. And Caterpillar hasn’t nosedived like many other industries. Intel isn’t doing well, but I would suggest it is doing a lot better than its competitors too. If you see a great opportunity, why don’t you make the investment! If you never try you wont ever succeed. Homer Simpson isn’t running the place yet!

    • df NJ

Capitalism has been so successful maximizing profits there are no customers left anywhere in the world. All the outsourcing has result in people buying everything on credit and now all the credit has been used up. Unless wages start rising the entire world’s capital system could collapse. But I think the people who control wages will see the light once they get a sense they are losing control. It’s already happening. Wages are rising this year because of Trump, Sanders, all the police killings and riots.

    • gfmucci

Americans who know what is going on lament. Have you ever watched a presentation of “Government Gone Wild?” That provides a graphic presentation of the irreversible growth of entitlement groups that either survive or thrive off of taxpayer dollars and services: Government employees (local, state, and federal); food stamp recipients; unemployment payments; housing payments; and a hundred other ways people expect government to pay their way. We lament because those in power are perpetuating this problem because of their own sick greed.

      MONEY IS AMERICA’S GOD!

      • mtntrek3

        That’s one of our problems.

  • df NJ

My whole life everyone talks about how great capitalism is over every other system. When you look at Russia, they lost WWI, and were just a bunch of farmers. And in 50 years they became a world super power. What as the United States done since WWII? Capitalism gave us Detroit.

    • True Grit

If you think for a minute, you will realise that Capitalism built Detroit. Then over the last 40 years of Socialist redistribution programs, Socialist government restrictions on free Capitalism, Socialist controlled media; preaching cultural debouchery, Socialist controll of law enforcement,
And Socialist corruption at the highest levels of local government, Detroit has become a dying, great American city.

  • Oz Steamer

The only thing I could disagree with in the article is the following: “Over the decades, our politicians have stood idly by as tens of
thousands of businesses and millions of good paying jobs have left the
country. Our economic infrastructure has been absolutely gutted, and as
a result formerly great manufacturing cities have become rotting,
decaying hellholes.” No, the Politicians did not “stand idly by” they went out of their corrupt way to either make it all happen or to help it all happen. The same can be said of just about every Western Country and it’s about time someone started to question the sanity of doing this. Certainly, it is easily seen to be utterly corrupt.

    • Anton Ossa

      JUST FOLLOW THE MONEY!

  • df NJ

Detroit is all Obama’s fault because he’s black. And all black people are lazy. And drug companies raising prices is also Obama’s fault because he invented human nature:

The Mylan controversy fits a similar pattern. Mylan has increased the price of its EpiPen from about $57 a shot when it took over sales of the product in 2007 to more than $600 for two auto-injectors.

“I am deeply concerned by this significant price increase for a product that has been on the market for more than three decades, and by Mylan’s failure to publicly explain the recent cost increase, which places a significant burden on parents, schools and other purchasers of the EpiPen,”

    • Anton Ossa

WELCOME TO AMERICA, THE NEW THIRD WORLD COUNTRY!

  • AtomicMetroid

But Appalachia is in poverty……Most people own many guns…..yet…there is very low crime. Hmmmmmm

    • df NJ

Yeah, guns are a big help:

“It works like this: Once a month, the debit-card accounts of those receiving what we still call food stamps are credited with a few hundred dollars — about $500 for a family of four, on average — which are immediately converted into a unit of exchange, in this case cases of soda. On the day when accounts are credited, local establishments accepting EBT cardsare swamped with locals using their public benefits to buy cases and cases — reports put the number at 30 to 40 cases for some buyers — of soda. Those cases of soda then either go on to another retailer, who buys them at 50 cents on the dollar, in effect laundering those $500 in monthly benefits into $250 in cash — a considerably worse rate than your typical organized-crime money launderer offers — or else they go into the local black-market economy, where they can be used as currency in such ventures as the dealing of unauthorized prescription painkillers — by “pillbillies,” as they are known at the sympathetic establishments in Florida that do so much business with Kentucky and West Virginia that the relevant interstate bus service is nicknamed the “OxyContin Express.”

      • AtomicMetroid

You act like everyone here are “welfare pillbillies”. You couldn’t be more mistaken. You shouldn’t believe those jewish hollyweird movies. Most of the drugs coming into WV is coming from black drug dealers from Detroit.
As far as welfare, many here work. But we have our lazy idiots too just like everybody else. as far as pop, I don’t keep it around. But as soon as you start getting close to where “they” live, you will start seeing a familiar scene; go into west side in Charleston(run by dem liberals), or go to Huntington(run by dem liberals) and they look just like Detroit, philly, etc., etc.. Very high crime.
You want to see the worst that America has to offer??? Go to NY or any other liberal-held city.

  • T.j. Thomas

“And it certainly doesn’t help that voters in many of these cities have willingly chosen to put radical leftists into power time after time.”

Or a radical rightist governor, like Michigan’s.

  • df NJ

I would like to see all foreign aid stop completely until eye sores like Detroit and the Appalachian poverty no longer exist. I don’t want welfare programs but there’s got to be some smart people able to come up with a plan where people have opportunities to work hard, make money, and have some dignity. We give billions to foreigners. When is America going to be first on the agenda? I think our government has been taking over by foreign interests. The American people are just not important to our government.

I live in a Suburb of Metro Detroit. I go to Detroit often. It is an architectural mecca. It’s history is rich and we explore all of the neighborhoods. There is a gentrification occurring. • df NJ

God bless you and the people of Detroit! Bravo!

  • Jack Frost

You don’t need to live too far from a city, just far enough to discourage a hungry and thirsty mob from blithely trekking there. You need enough water, food and medicine to last about six months. The majority of useless eaters will be dramatically thinned out by then. It is also necessary to involve others in your long term plan for survival to be successful. No one is good at everything. Plus someone needs to keep watch while you sleep, bathe, do toiletries, etc. Start today in protecting yourself because police are mainly performing report writing and body retrieval actions.

  • sharonsj

First of all, much of America is not relatively stable nor relatively good. The cities have a lot of problems but those same problems can be found in small rural towns. My area is nearly 100% white and rural but drugs and robberies are a big problem.

Even people with jobs are finding it very difficult to pay bills. I have a friend whose house is being foreclosed on because she can’t pay the mortgage. So far I have come up with enough money (by selling my belongings) to pay last year’s taxes to avoid foreclosure but now I have to figure out how to pay this year’s taxes. Another friend’s elderly parents have a small home in a mid-sized city and will have to sell because they, too, can’t afford the taxes.

The middle and lower classes are just being squeezed to death and at some point we’ll be joining the rioting blacks. P.S. It doesn’t matter who is in the White House. Congress and our state legislatures will find more ways to take what little we have left.

  • Who Cares

Detroit went as it should have gone. Unions created an impossible environment for business, and it then either went bankrupt or went else where.
I knew people from there, members of my own family went there during the depression and worked until they retired from the auto industry. In the late eighties there were people doing the work of trained monkeys and earning $60-70,000 in salary and benefits (in 1990 dollars.) And they knew it was a bubble, they said so, they knew it couldn’t last, but still milked it for all it would produce. And when it failed, they simply retired or went elsewhere.
So that then is what the unions “kicked down the road” for todays workers to deal with, and then they blame it on the companies.

    • df NJ

You can’t be more wrong. The problem is not the unions. The problem is the Chinese have pegged the Yuan 6 to 1 against the dollar. This means a CEO gets 6 Chinese workers for every one American worker. If we paid off the national debt, discovered a clean renewable power source to replace fossil fuels, discovered a way of ending all government corruption, and the value of the dollar shot through the roof. It would not solve our labor problems. The CEO will still be able to hire 6 Chinese workers for every 1 American worker. No one worker can compete with 6 Chinese workers. You need to stop hating the American worker.

      • chris999

you can’t pay off a National debt, when we operate under a fractional reserve fiat currency that is debt based…Every dollar in circulation is a dollar that has been loaned. It is impossible to pay off the national debt. What China does with their currency is try to keep its value while the federal reserve steals trillions and ships it overseas to their criminal buddies. Take a look at the audit …

  • Roger Smith

I watched the Detroit “drive through” video….couldn’t help but notice that scummy bar “The Green Cure”. If you look it up on Google maps you’ll notice it is directly across the street from the Detroit Police Academy. How perfect is that?!

Nothing to worry about – just a minor side effect of capitalism.

  • df NJ

    Socialism is the answer:

“Anything that can help bolster the economy in our area is a good thing, especially if it’s outside of coal,” Copley said Wednesday. “Right now we need to have some sort of diversity so we don’t fall into the same situations. If coal were to make a comeback sometime down the road, we don’t want to fall into the same (predicament) we’re in right now.”

Other grants would fund programs to tackle prescription-drug abuse and bring broadband internet service to rural communities – both prevailing issues in Appalachia.

The largest grant award, $7.5 million, goes to the University of Pikeville in Kentucky to help launch only the second optometry college in central Appalachia. The college would be expected to graduate 60 optometrists within the first three years and provide care to 12,000 patients.

A $1.5 million grant to Appalachian Sustainable Development, a nonprofit organization based in Abingdon, Virginia, is aimed at developing a distribution network for local foods in five states
