EBT Card Outage?: It Is 8 Days Into June And Many Americans Are STILL Waiting For Food Stamp Money

Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Google+Share on LinkedInShare on StumbleUponEmail this to someone

Supermarket Bananas - Public DomainWidespread reports continue to pour in from all over the nation of “glitches” with the food stamp system.  It is eight days into the month and large numbers of people still have not received their benefits, and in other instances it is being reported that EBT cards are simply not working correctly.  So what in the world is going on here?  On downdetector.com there are scores of reports of problems with the EBT system from people all over the nation.  Could this simply be another example of government incompetence, or is something else at work here?

I had heard some rumblings about this over the past few days, but I had not really taken them seriously until I read an article from highly respected author Ray Gano

It interesting over the weekend I got several emails telling me about cell phones being down, internet being down, and get this, EBT cards not working and having no money associated to them.

This is a concern because when the US Government has payment failures, then there is possibly something happening that the press is not telling you about.

Now, we know that computers have problems and that states, counties and cities run on computers. But what is interesting is that since the beginning of 2016, The US government has had over 2,700 reports on downdetector.com showing that they have been late loading the money onto these EBT cards.

Folks, we are now going on 8 days where the Government has not paid the EBT payments so that people have food.

So I went over to downdetector.com myself, and I was stunned to see that reports of EBT outages continue to pour in every hour.  Here are just a few of the recent comments that have been left by people that are still waiting for their food stamp benefits for June…

Heidi Lynn: I was supposed to get mine on the 5th and still nothing. Even ebt NJ site says $0 as well as my EBT card says $0. I’m on disability. I forgot to add I tried calling NJ Board of Services and was on hold for over an hour. I had to hang up to take dog out, etc. Does anyone know what’s going on yet?

Ann Wilson: Now that it’s been a whole week since I was supposed to get my June benefits, and haven’t, I’m planning on going to my Illinois FCRC office. I hope they will be able to fix this difficulty.

Jenn Johnson: I always get mine on time. I was due to get mine today June 7th and nothing. I am from kentucky. Why is there nothing on the news about this?

Jarrett Manhart: Havnt received mine either. They are never late. And my fone is off so i cant call em. Im on Wi-Fi down the street from me.

Sunny Nicole Jones: I haven’t gotten mine either! I’m glad it’s not just me though because then I would really be worried!

But when I went to confirm these widespread outages with articles from the mainstream media, I came up empty.

Either the mainstream media does not know what is going on yet, or it is being ignored.

If you have not gotten your EBT benefits for this month yet or you know someone that is in that position, please feel free to let me know.  I want to get to the bottom of this.  There are people all over the nation that are reporting problems with the food stamp system, but nobody seems to know exactly how widespread this issue is just yet.

Today there are well over 40 million Americans on food stamps, and a lot of them would start rioting tomorrow if you told them that their food stamp cards were being turned off permanently.

EBT cards are the modern equivalent of the bread lines of the 1930s.  Instead of having to wait in long lines for food, the government just zaps money on to EBT cards each month, and those that are hurting are able to get something to eat.

But down in Venezuela, extremely long food lines are a daily reality for much of the population right now.  The following comes from the Daily Mail

Venezuela was once South America’s richest nation, but a fall in oil prices combined with other economic problems has led to desperate citizens taking drastic measures.

Nearly half of Venezuelans say they can no longer afford to eat three meals a day, according to a recent poll by the local firm Venebarometro. The poll surveyed 1,200 adults at their homes during the first week of April and had a margin of error of plus or minus of about two percentage points

Those who can, cross the border into Colombia to buy, bring back and then use or sell food and other basic commodities.

Could you imagine not being able to provide three meals a day for your family any longer?

Close to half the population of Venezuela is already in that position, and the economic collapse down there grows worse with each passing day.

Most Americans just assume that nothing like that could ever happen here.

Most Americans just assume that the government will always have plenty of money to give out.

As I mentioned above, there are well over 40 million Americans that receive EBT benefits.

However, when you factor in all government programs, more than 100 million Americans get some form of money or benefits from the federal government each month.

So what would happen someday if suddenly the spigot was turned off?

What would those 100 million people do?

How would they survive?

Hopefully this current EBT outage is just a temporary technical glitch, and hopefully the government will get it fixed in short order.

But someday there will be a major crisis that will cause food stamp benefits to be cut off either permanently or for an extended period of time.

When that day arrives, what will that do to our communities?

Please feel free to share what you think by posting a comment below…

We know that the Democrats-or any foreign government-are not behind this as they can’t afford a riot before November 8th.When Sandy hit NJ just before the 2012 election, the power companies deliberately took down the power in the suburbs to ensure that the cities had power, minimizing riot possibility and making Obama look bad to the rest of the nation as he hugged Christie.

I thought Sandy Hook was just some psychopathic kid gone wild.

      • farlyjameson

Did Sandy hook ever really happen? See “Let’s Talk about Sandy Hook.” on you tube.

        • White Knight

It did and it didn’t. I cannot say for sure exactly what happened, but I know for certain the story we were told was a lie. I can also tell you it was a staged, coordinated event designed to get the public to surrender our 2nd amendment rights.

          • JJ

            Amen!!!

  • VigilanteCaregiver

Actually, Mike, this happens often with the EBT system: at least once a year. There’s reports in 2015, 2014, 2013, etc. When we were on it a long time ago (praise the Good Lord we’re off it), they were late with payments every 3-4 months. Normally it was due to re-registrations and benefit audits taking a while. There were sometimes delays in payment from holidays: we just had memorial day, so that could be the reason. A few times they had delays in payment with no explanation: sometimes lasted a couple days to a couple months.

And there’s also the risk of hacking and other attacks that can take down the system. If that happened this time the system could be down for quite a while. However, there’d be some group publicly taking credit for it and I haven’t heard about it.

I have noticed that my local food market has been very empty this month but I thought it was just the day or the hour but now I understand……

Whereas I have also been shopping in the high-end food market and they were very busy as usual.

  • Jorma

I hope that surfer dude from Cali is hurting because of this. He was on Bill OReillys show and was buying lobster, alcohol, cavier and everything else on his EBT card while he had other income that wouldn’t justify his need for the EBT benefits. That really ticked me off knowing families could have used the benefits instead.

Oh, then there is that lotto winner in Michigan that stayed on her EBT after she won a 7 figure lotto jackpot.

    And on and on.

There are people right now that this is their only lifeline, yet we have real winners who scam the public treasury for their own gain.

Not exactly a highlight of Americana.

    It’s shameful and embarrassing.

    • farlyjameson

What’s worse is it gives fodder for critics to think that most people abuse in such a way when 99.9 percent of the time there is hardly enough food share given for rice and beans, really. What most people don’t know is in some places you can buy seeds and plants to grow your own food. Seems like a wiser thing to do nowadays if you have the room.

    • bigdo

that whole segment was propaganda to fool stupid people like you who watch and believe corporate-controlled news… it was so obvious too… lol

so why can’t the Government Trade Treasury Bonds to the Federal Reserve & get cash back to pay for the snap program. they do this for everything else they need money for.

It’s probably nothing, minor glitch in the system in some areas… When and if it happens for real on a widespread scale, yes, that will be really bad and create a certain amount of suffering and chaos.

          • Willard Ferch

My fellow hillbillies tacked that on me in the Navy in 1957, because I played the mandolin & guitar and sang old songs. Later, I played the fiddle & won many contests, including 3 time champion of Montana. Sounded cool, so I kept the nickname. Fiddlin Ferch God Bless!

          • bc

Hey Fiddlin Ferch..I guess I’m a hillbilly also (Kentucky). I love to hear the mandolin. Don’t hear much of that anymore. Thanks for your military service. A banged up knee from a motorcycle wreck probably kept me out of Viet Nam.

          • Willard Ferch

It was good to hear from you. There’s quite a few hillbillies in Montana, too, with both old country & blue grass musicians. It is very possible your wreck saved your life. Fiddlin

Since when did God give anyone money to buy food or give people undergrad degrees and GED’s? Never

      • Preacher62

Read the book, better yet ask any true Christian whence their provision comes. I have been young, now I am old and I have NEVER seen the righteous forsaken or God’s children begging bread. Placing one’s faith in God + anything is no longer faith in God. He has not failed me yet.

        • Tim jones

god has not failed me yet either sir.

i’ve saved 2 human lives in my time, one of those people has since had 2 children. i hope those children have children, and on and on.

i hope god has more work for me, mostly of the saving sort.

          Satan loves you.

          • Preacher62

Satan loves to steal, kill and destroy. Jesus brings abundant and eternal life. Satan uses the things of the world to accomplish his goals. Christ uses his own sacrifice. You will spend eternity with one of them. Choose wisely.

F@CK OFF WITH THE RELIGION CRAP. THIS IS AN ECONOMIC BLOG YOU MORON!

      • Preacher62

Well ain’t you special? He’s not religion, he’s the Creator of all that exists including you lessron. A fool and his money are soon parted, repent and believe the gospel and you can be saved.

        • Harry Merkin

I’m not special and neither are you. If I want to go to church I know where there are several. If I want to read about the economy I come here as well as other places. You are an idiot of the highest class.

          • Preacher62

A man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do. You can learn to ignore it or you can accept it and repent. Or you can use your keyboard courage to whine abut a simple paragraph on a computer screen. As long as there are people who believe worldly; i.e. money, government things can save them, it is my God given obligation/privilege to shine a light into that darkness. The further into darkness one traverses, the more offensive that light becomes.

          • JJ

Sounds like you need to go to the doctor because I believe you have some heart problems that need addressing!!!

          • JJ

Usually, people that are not idiots know how to speak and write correctly. The above sentences that you wrote to Preacher 62 are written incorrectly. They should be written as follows: If I want to go to church, I know where there are several. If I want to to read about the economy, I come here as well as other places. Where were you, Harry, when your teacher introduced punctuation to your class? Were you just being an idiot and not paying attention? Make sure you are the smarter one before calling someone an idiot!!

          • Harry Merkin

I use my phone to dictate and really don’t give a damn whether my Punctuation is correct or not. I don’t go back and correct it’s tough because I don’t spend my entire day here like you do. I have other things to do than spend 20 hours a day on political blogs. And you show how intelligent you are for attacking my grammar. Rather than stay with the discussion at hand. Your insignificant in my world and you always will be. You’ve been added to the list preachers on. Bye.

      • Sean H

This is a blog about surviving the world. I agree with preacher. I have been destitute and living paycheck to paycheck but trusted in Jesus. When you trust Jesus, search the scripture daily and pray solutions to problems come out of nowhere. Unlike the TV preachers claims, God does not offer worldly prosperity but their is no reason to fear life when you trust in Jesus. So why are you so bothered by testimonies from people who offer proven solutions to the world’s problems?

In Zimbabwe you can get free food if you have a Party Card, but you have to be a member of the Party.

Good info. Does not surprise me in the least. Control, contain and TEST the sheeple!

        • Seen2013

Control, Contain, and test seems rather accurate as well as apt.

      • RedSky

I’ve noticed a lot of very scantily stocked shelves in some grocery stores. If the ones that still have money for food are buying it up, it does not leave much left for those depending on EBT. Perhaps, they will be the last to eat when the SHTF. Most of the food pantries and shelter kitchens are going begging right now. I know I have cut back on my donations because I may need it down the road. People are generous to a point. Many on the EBT load their carts up with junk, all processed unhealthy food. They have no clue how to make a well-balanced meal from scratch and that is where the savings comes in and the health benefits.

        • Freedom1111

EBT payments aren’t that big. One person in MA can receive up to $194.00 per month. That translates to $6.47 per one meal a day for 30 days. (less if there are 31 days that month). It pays $3.23 per meal for 2 meals daily, and $2.16 per meal for 3 meals daily. Fresh vegetables and fruits just don’t last nor can enough be bought to stretch for 30 days. Most folks on EBT load up on noodles, spaghetti, rice, bread, dried beans, instant potatoes and canned vegetables. Meat, cheese and fish are sheer luxuries and are used mainly for flavoring, not as the main dish of the meal. Eggs are cheaper per meal than hamburger or chicken and provide protein so eggs are used more frequently. People on EBT usually gain weight due to the high proportion of carbohydrates they consume. But when your belly is empty, carbs don’t matter anymore. You just want to stop being hungry. As far as not cooking from scratch goes, folks who need EBT usually don’t have much cash to pay for other bills such as electric or propane gas, oil. Microwaving something from a box or a can for 5-10 minutes is cheap and easier on the overall household budget than using the stove for an hour to cook/bake something from scratch.

Maybe if you were actually working for the money you make instead of being on the internet insulting your neighbors your Corporate paycheck signer could pay some other people better wages so they won’t have to apply for help. Signed-Retired Pookie

          • ITSNOTWhatchaThink

He has no corporate paycheck signer.. He’s living off Uncle Sam’s unemployment.. and sadly if it’s true that his last real job paid as well as he makes it sound, he’s gonna be sitting around here for quite a while.. though I have to say that it’s tough to think of someone so corporate being a martial arts instructor.

          • Mark

New job loser. I’m doing quite well…Not pretending to snowball people on the internet like you.

          • Mark

            Hey retired Pookie,
Your a loser and quite frankly a loser baby boomer. Go back in your hole you troll. Retires are out of the real world living in that little wet dream of yours.

          • Mark

Pookies like you are the reason our country is going down the drain. Now go back in your ghetto hole and see if your EBT money arrived. Oh that’s right your retired from what??? Being a pimp? Loser

          • farlyjameson

Ahh, the fine, intelligent art of name-calling when someone calls you on your BS. You’ll have to find something else to whine about from your radio talking heads when lying Hillary raises the minimum wage and not as many people need government eats anymore. But you can bet your corporate comrades will still be hustling off the backs of the tax payers. LOOK OVER THERE!

          • Mark

You need to take an economics course at the local community college. They do have courses for retired folks as yourself. Raising the minimum wage will not get people out of poverty. Those service jobs are disappearing and employers will either cut jobs or cut hours. Always blaming the the corporations. I am no fan of how these companies operate. CEOs are mindless and narcissistic. The bankers and these trade policies are awful but there is a lot of blame to go around. Unions over stepped their boundaries and government intervention with quasi socialism made things worse. I am looking over there too.

Everything comes down to having better labor policies. If you want to get people off public assistance then we need to convince corporations to pay better wages.

“How we can save $17 billion in public assistance—annually

Note to conservatives: Want to know the best way to find savings in government assistance programs? Here’s a hint—it’s not by cutting nutrition assistance to working people who are struggling.

It’s by paying them fairly for their labor.

A new report from the Economic Policy Institute indicates that raising the federal minimum wage to $12 by 2020 would lift wages for more than 35 million workers nationwide and generate about $17 billion annually in savings to government assistance programs.

This report shouldn’t come as a surprise. In contrast to the stereotypes and lies about people with low incomes, the reality is that a majority of public assistance recipients either have a job or have an immediate family member who is working. In fact, 41.2 million working Americans—or 30 percent of the workforce—receive means-tested public assistance. Nearly half of them work full-time.

Not surprisingly, workers who receive public assistance are concentrated in jobs that pay low hourly wages, like the retail, food services, and leisure and hospitality industries. A majority (53 percent) of workers earning $12.16 per hour or less—or the bottom 30 percent of wage earners—rely on public assistance. As wages go down, the percentage of workers relying on public assistance gets higher: 60 percent of workers earning less than $7.42—only slightly higher than the $7.25 federal minimum wage—receive some form of means-tested public assistance. Overall, 70 percent of the benefits in programs meant to aid non-elderly low-income households—programs like food stamps, Medicaid, and the Earned Income Tax Credits—go to working families.

The fact is that the people we expect to work are working (if they can find employment), but they are not being paid enough to make ends meet. While big corporations are achieving extraordinary profits and executive compensationcontinues to rise, often these same corporations and CEOs are paying such low wages that workers must rely on public assistance..”

    • enough is enough

Hey dummy, if the businesses aren’t turning a big enough profit to pay higher wages, then they will just go out of business to please their employees. Your hero Barry Soetoro (Obama) is to blame, with his socialist health non-care, and his war on the coal industry. Oh, and lets not forget the illegal and unconstitutional fiat (read: Federal Reserve Notes) currency, per article 1 section 10 that states, money must be gold and/or silver. So therefore, toilet paper money doesn’t go as far as it used to.

It is already happening in 15 $$ an hour states like NY and Cal.
Just do a search on the words Wendy’s or McDonald’s Kiosks. They are replacing humans with nice clean Ai touch screen machines. That you can actually understand when they talk to you. Soon the whole burger flipping process may be automated. With only a few humans to oversee the machines. I for one look forward to placing an order with out getting a “Wa chew want. Then getting a burger untouched by human hands, that has not been spit on and dropped on the floor. I might just try eating at a fast food roach house.

The only way to RAISE WAGES is to have the DEMAND for workers HIGHER than available workers…..

And when you are a manufacturing country as the USA always was……in the proper environment there should be HELP WANTED signs everywhere….that makes the pay scale INCREASE.

In this environment workers catch overtime at 1 1/2 times regular pay and for the more ambitious can take hours at the factory down the street. In the old America a person could make as much as he wanted as they were “The Help Wanted”

I read an interesting theory some years ago in regards to the increase in EBT beneficiaries and how the government went to great strides in removing the stigma of “welfare” so that more people would apply.

The writer compared the increase in EBT distribution to the new soup lines of America. The only difference between the great depression and now is that our government was able to manipulate the citizens into thinking everything was okay. They knowingly formulated this nefarious plot by masking the shocking truth of an impending economic collapse as it would eventually lead to civil unrest (prematurely) by putting millions on the government program as a distraction. As long as the cards work the plan works, but now it is time to initiate the final control measure.

If the government can manage to hide the “new” soup lines and ultimately convince the masses that all is well then the powers that be could use this means to retain control over the population. A false sense of prosperity and security.

While reading Michael’s article today equipped with this perspective – in my humble opinion it seems very plausible.

I think a better question to ask is how is it possible in supposedly the greatest, richest, most entrepreneurial country on earth there are 100 million people on the cusp of penury and want where even a minor disruption in ‘ government support programs ‘ puts those same people on poverty’s doorstep.

Money running out. No one will give the US more loans. Russia, China, others, selling off debt and dollars. The government will start with the lowest and poorest to cut off first. May get interesting as the summer goes on. I still say that the 2016 elections will not happen and that Obama will declare marshal law. This could be the leading edge of the chaos needed for him to justify going that route.

    • David

Obama has already signed another Executive Order recently and this executive order calls for Martial Law in August of this year.

      • Harry Merkin

I’m not calling BS, but would like a link for that please.

    • Sheena D

      Richard,
I have been saying this all along! Not many agree with me, nice to see someone can see what I see. It all makes sense. I don’t think Hillary is going to get in because of all of the trouble she is currently in, and I think Trump just slipped in when they didn’t think anyone would vote for him. They have a back up plan and that is our dictator Obama. This is why he is provoking all this racial tension to create civil unrest, just an excuse to enact martial law. If people are rioting just at the thought of him being the next president, imagine when he elected. This works perfectly for all of them, probably better than Hillary getting elected. So I predict, Trump winning, civil unrest, race wars, and immigrant terrorists following through with their threats on US soil. I say we only maybe 6 months before all hell breaks loose.

      • Richard O. Mann

I agree that something is going to pop withing the next 6 months. Not going to be pretty when it does.

    • JJ

You are too funny, Jerry! With the entire world facing depression and the chaos that will ensue, is it time for a “savior” to make his appearance? They addressed the ’07 crisis with a remedy they knew wouldn’t work. FDR tried it and extended the Great Depression much longer; it was a complete failure, so that is exactly O put into play. The markets have been totally manipulated, there is no recognition of the law by the White House or a great many politicians, and Americans have been fed nothing but lies and misdirection from the government and the MSM. Throw in the criminal and fraudulent behavior in big banking, and you have a recipe for anarchy and martial law. It sounds like the culmination of a plan straight from hell. Fiddlin

    From the L.A. Times.

    1.
40% of all workers in L.A. County ( L.A. County has 10.2 million
people) are working for cash and not paying taxes. This is because they
are predominantly illegal immigrants working without a green card.

    2. 86% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens.

    3. 75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens.

    4.
Over 2/3 of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien
Mexicans on Medi-Cal, whose births were paid for by taxpayers.

    5. Nearly 45% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally.

    6. Over 300,000 illegal aliens in Los Angeles County are living in garages.

    7. The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are most likely illegal aliens from south of the border.

    8. Nearly 60% of all occupants of tax payer subsidized HUD properties are illegal aliens

    9. 41 radio stations in L.A. are Spanish speaking.

    10. In L.A. County 5.1 million people speak English, 3.9 million speak Spanish. (There are 10.2 million people in L.A. County.)

11, 80% of people illegally in the United States are from Mexico of which 78% have some form of criminal record!

All 11 of the above facts were published in the (very liberal) Los Angeles Times.

    Less
than 2% of illegal aliens are picking our crops, but 45% are on
welfare. Over 70% of the United States annual population growth (and
over 90% of California, Florida, and New York) results from immigration.
39% of inmates in federal prisons are illegal aliens.

The Financial burden pasted on to taxpayers of incarcerating illegal inmates in just California alone exceeds 1 billion dollars

In our state, the legislature passed a law that declares all single persons without children, and not disabled, and under the age of 50, to work a minimum of twenty hours each week to qualify for “any” EBT benefits.

The new law went into effect in April.

A lady I know that works for state gov. told me the other day that the state is now trying to get the law expanded to include all ages. In other words, she said the law, if fully passed, will go into effect in October of this year.
All EBT claimants will have to either have proof of disability, young children, or be a low income SS retirement recipient.

She also made some vague statements about major change coming in October that will affect everyone in the USA. When pressed for more info, she became nervous and said she couldn’t say anymore, and then left.
She seemed more scared of what she knew, than just concerned.

You can get a 50 lbs bag of rice at the grocery store, buy canned goods when they go on sale. Dried peas, beans and lentils store for a while too. You’ve got to have enough for at least a couple of months. It won’t cost that much. Do it, you’ll have peace of mind.

  • Kris

I actually work at an office and give these benefits to people. I haven’t heard anything about the EBT system being down (it has happened before though). It’s possible there could be a glitch that is only affecting certain people, but usually it’s been a nationwide glitch. Xerox runs our EBT system, and I think Chase runs it for other states. My guess would be that these people who are complaining about no SNAP on their cards simply did not follow the requirements to stay on the benefits and their case was canceled. This is an ongoing thing. Thanks Michael for the info!

I received a call from the “supervisor” at 6:45p.m. on 6/10/16 stating my June benefits were going to be withheld on 6/11/16 because I had not turned in some paperwork. I advised the “supervisor” that no one had requested these particular documents from me. She advised me that I had a new case worker and she needed additional training. I later received a form letter from my case worker dated 6 days prior to my receiving it, requesting the two additional forms. I wrote on the form that I had already fax’d them to her supervisor at 3:00a.m. on 6/11/16. Still no word back from either one of them and it’s the 25th. Also, the phone number on their request for additional documents was unresponsive.
