Global Crisis: Goldman Sachs Says That Brazil Has Plunged Into ‘An Outright Depression’

Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Google+Share on LinkedInShare on StumbleUponEmail this to someone

Global RecessionOne of the most important banks in the western world says that the 7th largest economy on the entire planet has entered a full-blown economic depression.  Brazil’s economy has now contracted for three quarters in a row, and many analysts believe that things are going to get far worse before they have a chance to get any better.  Earlier this year, I warned about “the South American financial crisis of 2015“, and now it is in full swing.  The surging U.S. dollar is absolutely crushing emerging markets such as Brazil, and if the Fed raises interest rates this month that is going to make the pain even worse.  The global financial system is more interconnected than ever before, and the decisions made by the Federal Reserve truly do have global consequences.  So much of the “hot money” that was created by the Fed poured into emerging markets such as Brazil during the good times, but now the process is starting to reverse itself.  At this point, it is hard to see how much of South America is going to avoid a complete and total economic disaster.

It is one thing for Michael Snyder from the Economic Collapse Blog to say that the Brazilian economy has entered a “depression”, but it is another thing entirely when Goldman Sachs comes out and publicly says it.  The following comes from a Bloomberg article that was just posted entitled “Goldman Warns of Brazil Depression After GDP Plunges Again“…

Latin America’s largest economy shrank more than analysts forecast, as rising unemployment and higher inflation sapped domestic demand, pulling the nation deeper into what Goldman Sachs now calls “an outright depression.”

Gross domestic product in Brazil contracted 1.7 percent in the three months ended in September, after a revised 2.1 percent drop the previous quarter, the national statistics institute said in Rio de Janeiro. That’s worse than all but three estimates from 44 economists surveyed by Bloomberg, whose median forecast was for a 1.2 percent decline. It also marks the first three-quarter contraction since the institute’s series began in 1996, and a seasonally adjusted annual drop of 6.7 percent.

And when you look deeper into the numbers they become even more disturbing.

Unemployment is rising, consumer spending is way down, and investment spending is absolutely collapsing.  Here is some of the data that Goldman Sachs just released that comes via Zero Hedge

Private consumption has now declined for three consecutive quarters (at an average quarterly rate of -8.5% qoq sa, annualized), and investment spending for nine consecutive quarters (at an average rate of -10.0% qoq sa, annualized). Overall, gross fixed investment declined by a cumulative 21% from 2Q2013. The declining capital stock of the economy (declining capital-labor ratio) hurts productivity growth and limits even further potential GDP. The sharp contraction of real activity during 3Q was broad-based: both on the supply and final demand side. Final domestic demand weakened sharply during 3Q2015 (-1.7% qoq sa and -6.0% yoy) with private consumption down 1.5% qoq sa (-4.5% yoy) and gross fixed investment down 4.0% qoq sa (-15.0% yoy). Finally, on the supply side, we highlight that the large labor intensive services sector retrenched again at the margin (-1.0% qoq sa; -2.9% yoy).

The term “economic depression” is not something that should be used lightly, because it conjures up images of the Great Depression of the 1930s.  And the Brazilian economy is very important to the global economic system.  As I mentioned above, there are only six countries in the entire world that have a larger economy, and Brazil accounts for more than 242 billion dollars worth of exports every year.

So if Brazil is feeling pain, it is going to affect all of us.

Up to this point, everyone had been calling what has been going on in Brazil a “recession”, but now Goldman Sachs is the first major bank to label it “an outright economic depression”

“What started as a recession driven by the adjustment needs of an economy that accumulated large macro imbalances is now mutating into an outright economic depression given the deep contraction of domestic demand,” Alberto Ramos, chief Latin America economist at Goldman Sachs Group Inc., wrote in a report Tuesday.

Of course Brazil is far from alone.  The third largest economy on the globe, Japan, has also now slipped into recession territory.  So has Russia.  And just today we learned that Canadian GDP is plunging

Who could have seen that coming? It appears, for America’s northern brethren, low oil prices are unequivocally terrible. Against expectations of a flat 0.0% unchanged September, Canadian GDP plunged 0.5% – its largest MoM drop since March 2009 and the biggest miss since Dec 2008.

It is just a matter of time before this global economic downturn catches up with us here in the U.S. too.

In fact, there is evidence that this is already happening.

According to brand new numbers that just came out, manufacturing activity in the U.S. is contracting at the fastest pace that we have seen since the last recession

Manufacturing in the U.S. unexpectedly contracted in November at the fastest pace since the last recession as elevated inventories led to cutbacks in orders and production.

The Institute for Supply Management’s index dropped to 48.6, the lowest level since June 2009, from 50.1 in October, a report from the Tempe, Arizona-based group showed Tuesday. The November figure was weaker than the most pessimistic forecast in a Bloomberg survey. Readings less than 50 indicate contraction.

Another indicator that I am watching is the velocity of money.

When an economy is healthy, money tends to flow fairly freely.  I buy something from you, and then you buy something from someone else, etc.

But when economic conditions start to get tough, people start to hold on to their money.  That means that money doesn’t change hands as quickly and the velocity of money goes down.  As you can see below, the velocity of money has declined during every single recession since 1960…

Velocity Of Money M2

When a recession ends, the velocity of money normally starts going back up.

But a funny thing happened when the last recession ended.  The velocity of money ticked up slightly, but then it started going down steadily.  In fact, it has kept on declining ever since and it has now hit a brand new all-time record low.

This is not normal.  Yes, Wall Street is temporarily flying high for the moment, but the underlying economic fundamentals are all screaming that something is horribly wrong.

A global crisis has begun, and the U.S. will not be immune from it.  I truly believe that we are heading toward the worst economic downturn that any of us have ever experienced.

But there are many out there that insist that nothing is the matter and that happy times are ahead.

So who is right and who is wrong?

We will just have to wait and see…

I have been shorting Brazil all year :) Between crashing oil and sinking natural resources that was a good bet and there is probably more downside.

  • CASTIEL

i have some brazilian friends…from what i heard that country is full of corruption they will never suced……the best story i heard is that some of their police sell the engines of their patrol cars to gain money :) and then they put old ones from the scrapyard.its true that corruption exist everywhere….but that country is in top 10 of corruption

    • Jazz

I agree. The top CEO from Brazil’s largest investment bank just get arrested this week on some sort of fraud charges.

      • Gay Veteran

then they have more justice in Brazil than in America where none of the Banksters went to prision

    • Lennie Pike

You got that right. I live there on and off. You know it’s corrupt when the campaign slogan of the candidate for Mayor of it’s largest city who used to be it’s Mayor and leading the polls is: ” I will steal from you, but I will do things for you also.” In Brazil, that’s a good and rare thing.

The U.S. is catching up to them though, and has maybe surpassed them on the federal level, but there you will work hard to find one politician, bureaucrat, or police officer, anywhere, that is not corrupt. That also goes for business people and sadly to say a large percentage of the population – it’s just the way the culture is. When the law enforcers and lawmakers are criminals, everyone is pretty much left no choice but to say, “the heck on that, I’m not going to be the only sucker left holding the bag.”

It’s illegal to own firearms in Brazil. They had a national referendum to let the citizens decide, and they decided yes – to allow gun ownership. The government did not honor the vote – so that says it all. Now in Brazil only actual real criminals have firearms (mais ou menos). There is a large percentage of the Brazilian population though that is honest and hard working and obeys the Golden Rule t – good luck taking your country back. Getting rid of criminal globalist thug Dilma would be a start.

Been there and many other S.A. countries.
Just another hole in the earth for an outhouse.

“I truly believe that we are heading toward the worst economic downturn that any of us have ever experienced.”

I’m with you, Michael. And my views were strengthened after watching Mike Maloney’s presentation at the recent Silver Summit. It’s available on YouTube.

Google “The Perfect Economic Storm is Here – Mike Maloney at Silver Summit 2015.”

    • Jazz

Will have to check it out. I like Mike’s work. It’s top notch. Thank you for the suggestion!

      • Tim

Maloney is one of the smartest guys in the precious metals sector, in my opinion.

        • Jazz

Great video. I bought some physical gold around 1100 and will grab some more when it gets below 1000. I bought silver around $14 and will buy more around 10-12.

So much for that BRIC nonsense we’ve heard for the last few years.

    Published 6/25/2015.

    29 days until 12/31/2015.

Lets do a count down until the end of 2015 and see just what happens.

    ——————————————————————————

    By Michael S, on July 31st, 2015.

“And I kind of appreciate the countdown. It reminds people of my warning, and perhaps it will give some readers a renewed sense of urgency.”

Depression, yes. Only thing new, is Goldman said it. Add Greece, Portugal, Japan, the list just goes on and on. This depression, will be worldwide. And because most people today, are totally unadaptable. Sadly, there will be great violence. Everything from war, to looting, to criminal activity in general. If I did not know the Lord, I would be very concerned.

    • none

Why doesn’t Brazil just tear up its debt, then ask the Russians and Chinese if it can borrow from its bank?

      • K

I think Brazil understands. How many strings are attached, to Russian, or Chinese money.

      • Enrique Scarpa

Man what a stupid comment!! This proves that you do not know anything about what is happening here in my country. Powerful nations such as Italy, Germany, USA, England, have always spread its imperialist tentacles all over the world and willnever let any nation rise from third to first world country. It has always been this way and it will always be. I do not support the party in power here in my country (the labour party – partido dos trabalhadores). Dilma Rouseff was a terrorist during the time of the miliotary regime (which I think was a very good regime because they were fighting against the implementation of communism here).
But… the creation of the Bank of BRIC has been the best thinh that has ever happened in all Brazilian history.
Please, look for some videos on youtube about Muamar Kadhaffy when he tried to create a currency for all the African countries and he was only going to sell oil if customers paid with that currency. Then the US and its allies invaded Lybia and killed Gaddafi. And Saddam Hussein. When Saddan wanted to sell oil onty to countries that paid in Euros not dollars, Iraq was invaded and Saddam was murdered.
        And it is happening again.
Why do you think there is a crisis in Venezuela? It is because venezuelahas its economy 70% based on oil exports. And what did the US and saudi Arabia do in order to destroy Russia economically? They decreased the oil prices from $100 a barrel to $ 0 a barrel. Russia’s economy has been severely affected but venezuela’s economy has been completely destroyed.
I am not against theAmerican people or any other people. But that is how it works and it will always be this way.
Now it is happening again. The US and its allies have created ISIS. The US was pretending thatthey were fighting them, but they were not because the US and it allies want to pass a pipeline through Syria, into Turkey to take oil and gas to Europe and completely detroy the Russian economy because Russia is the only supplier of gas to Europe.
It is a dirty worl and Jesus is soon returning. I do not care whether you believe in Jesus or not. If you rstudy carefully you will see that many prophecies are fulfilling right in front of our eyes.
In my personal opinion. This world economic crisi has no solution. The only man who will be able to fix this (under the permission of God, will be the Antichridt) who will be the most charming, elegant, inteligent man who has ever appeared on the face of this planet. God bless.

        • Lennie Pike

Nossa, como o Brasileiro sabe a verdade. O oposto do Amrericano zombie.

          • scooter

Sim, a maioria dos americanos são zumbis , mas há um grande despertar ocorrendo agora .

        • John

          wow smart post!

      • Actually, we’ve been doing just that for about 20 years. We never paid back anything from the debt, we just keep borrowing money and paying the interest. If Brazil stopped this “pretending to someday pay” altogether by declaring “oh, let’s stop pretending, we actually won’t”, we’d end up without all that new, continuously flowing into the country, brand new borrowed money. And the lack of that new shiny money would simply speed up the crash.

So, no. For Brazil, in the short term, it’s best to continue *saying* we’ll someday pay the debt, and in the meanwhile go on borrowing more.

        • John

Well an alternative is a country can lower its borrowing and spending and help their economy and pay back debt. Instead of overspending which all these countries especially ours USA does.

    • Cyber Revengeance

no looting & violence. martial law will be declared.

      • K

I have no doubt it will be declared. But between the gangs, and various other groups. I do not think it will hold.

      • David_R59

The police and members of the armed forces will be more worried about their own families than about YOUR family.
And I dare bet that they’ll be more worried about their own families than the families of the people who sign their paychecks or control their pension plans.

        • MEP325

Well, duh…. wouldnt you do the same?

  • Bill

By the time most people realize that the disastrous depression is upon them the life boats will be long gone.

What???? Pope Francis Declares That Christian Fundamentalism ‘Is A Sickness’…

    http://themostimportantnews.com/archives/pope-francis-declares-that-christian-fundamentalism-is-a-sickness

    • Bill

I’ve been wondering about this guy for some time—

      • Mike Smithy

Wonder no more Bill. The evidence is quite clear that this Pope is taking the apostasy to a whole new level.

    • K

Just further proof. There is a sickness, in the minds of many world leaders.

    • Lennie Pike

I bet there are countless things that the Bible says are evil that the pope says are not, after all, like the new Public Service Announcement on t.v. says: “Any kind of “love” is good”.

If not yet, I reckon pretty soon that will include “love” between adults and children, or even between humans and animals, or whatever – won’t it pope?

I bet he ain’t got nothin against snake handlin.

      • Lennie Pike

Worship of anything or anyone other than worship of God is the definition of idolatry.

That includes worshiping the environment there pope. If not already there, you’re getting real close, but then again that would be taking the Bible literally so it’s o.k..

        • Bill G Wilminton NC

          Bible literally ?

          • Lennie Pike

No. Worshiping the environment is literally o.k. according to the Bible? No, just my strange form of sarcasm turning things on their head upside down like this pope has no problem with doing.

        • “Worship of anything or anyone other than worship of God is the definition of idolatry.”

          And that’s bad because…?

      • Gay Veteran

explain how children or animals can give consent?

        • Bill G Wilminton NC

Explain how two people of the same sex can get married ?

The same DISCRIMINATION arguments that the LGBT used are being used to accomplish sex with children…..do some resarch it is not difficult

          • df NJ

This is not true. Gay people are not pedophiles by definition. Heterosexual pedophiles exist in equal frequencies. at some point facts have to come into play.

          • Bill G Wilminton NC

The LGBT used discrimination as a wedge to accomplish their goals.

Not by definition and I never said that.

Facts/truth are always the most important.

Both groups are under Demonic influence from the pits of HELL.

AND the difference of the two preferences hetero/homo is like having less cancer a society/culture wants to be cancer free.

          • Gay Veteran

don’t you have a street corner to pray loudly at, pharisee

          • Bill G Wilminton NC

For now YES….. but soon as this culture collapses deeper into SIN…..No

          • Gay Veteran

you should move to Israel since you love it so much

          • Bill G Wilminton NC

YOU cant go there you are an anti semitic

          • Gay Veteran

sorry junior, but fewer and fewer people are buying into the anti-Zionist equals anti-semetic BS

          • Bill G Wilminton NC

It is anti-semitic……. you can’t even spell it correctly. No wonder you are in left field…..without a glove.

          • Gay Veteran

what are you, the spelling police?
“anti-Semitic, anti-Semitic”, you sound like a retarded parrot

          • Bill G Wilminton NC

            Haha couldn’t resist……….sorry.

          • Gay Veteran

BS, two ADULTS of the same sex can get married.

          • Bill G Wilminton NC

Great let me know when two male ducks have a baby duck.

OK by state… abomination to God

Marriage is the basis for a family to have children.

This experiment will not end well.

          • Gay Veteran

awwww, poor Christian fundamentalist ending up on the garbage heap of history

          • Bill G Wilminton NC

No the garbage heap is where the decadent ROMAN AND GREEK cultures ended up. AND America with same sex marriage, and the pastels display on the white house speaks volumes to how low our culture has fallen. Next is pedophilia.

          • Gay Veteran

heh, Rome ruled the Western world for centuries, but all empires die.

jeez, surprised you didn’t bring up bestiality, your type usually goes right there
now how is it children and animals can give consent?

          • Bill G Wilminton NC

I didn’t want to insult the animals !

          • alan

Its the slow decay of America and this is part of it. When you can just do whatever you feel like and there are no more laws to govern society then you don’t have a society.

          • Gay Veteran

hey Einstein, you people could never rationally explain how marriage equality for gays negatively affect society.
what’s wrong? you saw two married guys and it makes you want to leave your marriage?

jeez, with the high divorce rate it is YOU heterosexuals who are destroying marriage

        • Lennie Pike

Your question has nothing to do with what I was addressing but I will give you a really good answer anyway – after I say the following:

The words in that announcement say ALL love, and they meant love that involves sex. ALL love includes love (sex) that is NOT consensual, and for good reason I suspect that some people involved in this announcement (Soros is bound to be) don’t see anything wrong with adults having sex with children and that the ad is an attempt to condition people to accept that down the road. There’s already a large movement to legalize pedophilia. I also included “whatever” along with children and animals, which by definition could not give consent either but you didn’t mention that.

I understand you took offense because you are gay. I could get into that with you but would rather not because I wasn’t even thinking about gays when I made my comment. I was only thinking about the “all love” in the announcement. I will tell you though, that if I did get into it with you, my perspective would be from the Bible’s point of view and you would bound to take offense.

One thing for sure is that I and all who are Believers and try their best to obey the teachings of the Bible would not condemn you or judge you. I know God takes offense to many things Heterosexuals do including myself, but that’s different I know that. That’s all I can tell you.

Just remember one thing about me Gay Veteran – I never make any statements or claims that I can not back up. It’s the only way to never lose an argument, and for whatever reason, I hate to lose at anything.

Here’s your answer and it even exceeds being an acceptable answer.

Ever been to a friends house and their dog starts humping on your leg?
It’s because its in the mood and you don’t even require it’s consent.

I would recommend you stick to what you already have there Gay Veteran – just kidding – you laughing?

Everyone can’t be expected to always agree.

          • Lennie Pike

Oh yea, it must have been the “snake handlin” comment that set you off. I guess I was wrong to say it, but like I said, I’m not perfect.

But, and most importantly, from that Biblical point of view I was talking about – HE’S THE POPE FOR CHRIST’S SAKE!!!!!!

          • Gay Veteran

“…If not yet, I reckon pretty soon that will include “love” between adults and children, or even between humans and animals, or whatever – won’t it pope?….”

my question was directed at that.

“…Ever been to a friends house and their dog starts humping on your leg?
It’s because its in the mood and you don’t even require it’s consent….”

bad example, the human is NOT the one interested in sex with a dog.

now about those guys that like to F horses? how do the horses consent?

          • Lennie Pike

I don’t know you tell me. Maybe the same way a dog does.

I gave you a good answer to what you said your question was directed at, and why I made the comment regardless of the the dog example I gave.

My dog example was beside the point and wasn’t meant to be serious even though it did have some validity because these days there could easily be a case, let me say instead, I’m sure there have been many cases where the human WAS interested.

Seems like you can’t get it out of your head that I was talking about gay people. I told you I was not. I also didn’t say anything about whether it was the dog or human that was first interested in my original comment but only said – ” I guess pretty soon that “all love” will include sex between adults and children and animals or whatever” will be acceptable, so I did give you a valid example.

My point was that I suspect this pope of being a pedophile and that it seems he has no problem with many things that the Bible says God condemns.

            Culpepper, out.

enough already, I feel like I’m getting into one of those gay style arguments – no offense.

          • Gay Veteran

did I say a single thing about gays? NO

and you know damn well that when people talk about bestiality they are not talking about a dog humping someone’s leg

you’re a bright guy, now about those guys that like to F horses? how do the horses consent?

          • Lennie Pike

No you didn’t say anything about gays. I just assumed that’s what riled you so I was wrong.

I’ll just go ahead and admit it, I don’t know anything about those guys that like to F horses or how the horses consent, and that’s all I got to say about that.

          • alan

If they run they didn’t consent, if they stand still they consented.

          • Lennie Pike

Same thing almost with a rhinoceros or a bull, if you get the hell gored out of you………….

          • Gay Veteran

run where? they would be in stalls

          • John

random question what are you a veteran off? the most homosexual partners? maybe getting the most sexual diseases? never heard of a gay veteran pretty nasty.

          • Gay Veteran

            more like random idiot.

don’t you have a street corner to pray loudly at?

        • alan

Just change the law to say so and anything less is discrimination based on age um or nature. The law doesn’t matter its what you can force people to believe thats the new normal.

          • Gay Veteran

well junior, it wasn’t that long ago that the LAW banned interracial marriages.

and force you to do what? marry someone of the same gender?

          • John

Junior you wish he was a junior you sick pedophile. dont compare homosexuality with interracial marriage two different things. unlike race homosexuality is a behavior and unnatural and dangerous physically and spirituality. Aids is not a good thing. Black people are against homosexuality so dont offend them by using what they went through to push your sick unnatural agenda.

          • Gay Veteran

religion is a choice, want to ban that too, you self-righteous Pharisee.
don’t you have a street corner to pray loudly at?

          • Gay Veteran

            “…your sick unnatural agenda.”
bet you got all excited writing that

        • John

you homosexuals are the biggest pedophiles on earth. Look at hollywood filled and controlled by homosexuals and the biggest pedophilia place in the world. Look at preists almost all of catholic priests who were pedophilias were homosexuals. you homosexuals are sickos in many ways.

      • David_R59

I think that you, just like too many people, confuse love with sex.

        • Lennie Pike

Did you see the ad? It was speaking of married couples, so I assume they were having sex.

      • John

I am Catholic and know the Pope is not okay with homosexuality or pedophile that is the Jews you are thinking about who are the main pushers of that like George Soros.
However this Pope does have a liberal side which is not good. I dont think you should worry about anything becuase Catholic church teaching can not be changed. Us Catholics do not have to belief everything the Pope says.

      • Actually, the Bible allows sex between adults and children. Exodus 21:7-10 explains how, if you sell your daughter into slavery, she must please her master as he wishes.

So, go on and buy yourself a slave sex girl. As I last heard, ISIS is selling them again nowadays, in full conformity with pro-slavery, pro-rape, pro-child sex biblical morality.

So Mike when you said on July 31st, 2015.

“And I kind of appreciate the countdown. It reminds people of my warning, and perhaps it will give some readers a renewed sense of urgency.”

Why do you keep deleting it? To me it seems because it makes you look like your timing was off and if it was off why is that a big deal?

So, do you like the countdown as you said or not?

      • Steeve Girard

That means you do not need to advertise it anymore… the event has already happened. Michael was just late to realise it, like all of us.

      Knave_Dave:

“…Christian Fundamentalists have done much to set this stage for themselves. While there are many good people among them — kind and charitable people who truly love God — they do tend to be the most Pharisaic arm of the Christian church. The problem is not that they take the Bible literally, but that they only take it literally when it suits THEIR theology, which they believe to be inerrant. The problem is not that they think the Bible is without error but that they think their own view of it is without error as being the true “literal” view of the Bible.

…More importantly, they tend to believe that righteousness comes from works — and often from the most superficial outward displays, such as not smoking or cussing or drinking. They decry the Catholic Church and other religious groups that teach that salvation comes from works, but then they live a life that says righteousness (not salvation) comes from works — that “holiness” exists in our righteous living, but that righteous living usually has a lot less to do with serving the poor and living humbly before non-Christians and a lot more to do with showing how righteously they live before non-Christians (as an upstanding example of course) by how they look and what they refuse to take part in — gambling, playing in a pool hall, smoking weed, etc..

Thus, they judge as unrighteous those who lead a rough-looking life, even though the person they’re judging may, in fact, be a much more truly righteous person than they are; but lacks superficial righteousness. In other words, he drinks, smokes and cusses a blue streak; but he’d give his shirt to the poor or punch in the face someone who was abusing his spouse or a child, while the Fundamentalist IN SOME CASES goes as far as to defend the abuser by telling the beaten spouse she must submit to him while they lack the courage to kick the abuser out of the church and keep him in his position as a trustee. In some cases, the abused spouse is treated as if she is less Christian for wanting to leave the home than the abuser is for beating her.

Fundamentalism is an ugly mess that mysteriously likes to think it looks righteous to others — that the way they are living sets an example that others might aspire to when, in fact, others just see some seriously messed up people that they would hate to be like. That said, I know many wonderful Fundamentalists who are true Christians, in spite of their Fundamentalism and who really do love people and not just judge people by superficial outward things like smoking and cussing. I’m certain those outward things are FAR, FAR less significant to God (having NEVER actually been defined in the Bible as even being sins) than such things as standing bravely against abuse of any kind, including inserting yourself between the fist and the face of the abused.

Christian Fundamentalist are rarely ever as violent as Islamic Fundamentalists. In fact, I’d say the only violent ones have been ones who were that way because of mental illness, BUT their Fundamentalism clearly fed into their acts of violence — gave their mental illness a violent path to follow as they focused on teachings about God destroying unrighteousness, going to just a greater literal extreme of taking that as the path God would have them follow if they are to be true champions of the faith. There is a zeal to Fundamentalism that encourages people to pass the bounds of civility. I’ve known dedicated Christian Fundamentalists who served on the worship team in their church and then to show their zeal went out on the street and preached God’s condemnation to everyone walking by who looked unrighteous. They were certain they were zealously doing God’s work by preaching righteousness to the street.

So, it is a sickness … or, at least, it readily feeds sickness that already exists in the human mind. Whatever you do, don’t pop a Fundamentalist’s self-righteous bubble because he’s likely to spew is spiritual pride all over you.”

        Righteousness does come by works.
        And its not our righteousness.

        • GSOB

That’s because Christ work of redemption on the cross has satisfied God’s justice for my sins.

His resurrection is proof of who He was and glorified the Father.

The Spirit seeks out the elect and brings the Gospel to them, a salvation prepared in Christ for believers before the foundation of the world.

          Christ works becomes my righteousness.

          Christ is our righteousness.

You’re missing the point completely. If an asteroid was coming, nothing can be done about it, yes. This coming collapse is basically the financial equivalent to an asteroid striking the earth. HOWEVER… unlike an asteroid, which is an uncontrollable astrological issue, this collapse CAN be helped.. and CAN be stopped. And we’ve had the ability to come together in union and do something about it for 50 years… but we haven’t. And that’s what makes me so angry. If people haven’t woken up in that time, then sadly they will never wake up.
To paraphrase what another member of this blog said, its’ like the sinking of the Titanic. All the upper class people scoffed at the idea that an iceberg could sink the ship once contact was made, while the lower class people were the first to perish from it. This ignorance stems from two things: being patriotic about a faulty cause, and having too much money. take both of those things away and that oughta clear up peoples’ ignorance.

  • Powers Beyond Imagination

Despite the gloom in the US the Fed is strongly considering to raise interest rates. Since it’s not the economy, it has to be the dumping of US bonds by various countries recently.
A decline in the demand for US$ means continuing US debt cannot be sustained which would crash the $. Hence interest rates need to be increased.
That is a disaster not only for smaller countries facing an outflow of capital but to local US small business and mortgage holders.
The extra money coming will go to – guess, the Share Market mostly to the big end of town.

    • GoldenGirl

A disaster for the emerging markets, yes. However, the Fed knows that the fate of many pension plans rests upon the raising of interest rates. Do they throw US seniors to the wolves for the sake of helping the debt-ridden, never-to-be-reformed corrupt emerging market countries (like Brazil)? This is a problem of their own making and one with impossible choices. Nearly everyone will suffer to some degree. And our debt cannot be sustained, no matter what they do.

      • Philosopher

Seniors are being thrown to the wolves. Their is no SS COLA this year. ZERO. However Congress and Federal Employees will get a nice 1.5% COLA, of course.

        • GoldenGirl

One of the many quirks of Central Banking: DEPRESSION’s

  • chris

The velocity of money graph does appear to suggest that we are still in recession or more likely depression and that any funny money created by the CBs has mostly gone into inflating assets and stocks. This probably won’t surprise most people. The media and Government departments have done a great job of talking up a non-existent recovery probably using bulls##t figures. If we had taken the pain back in 2008 we probably would be in a genuine recovery by now rather than the zombie fake recovery which when it ends will be an absolute nightmare. Well done CBs, you’re either incompetent or have done it deliberately, now which one is it?

    • Gay Veteran

but, but, but we couldn’t let the Big Banks fail /sarc/

  • John Nickerson

What is the condition of their banks? I believe you can’t have a full blown depression until the banking system collapses.

    • df NJ

I think depression comes when the costs of goods and services becomes so high people are no longer willing to work any longer. At least in New Jersey, there are tons of people driving to work everyday, stores are packed with goods and services, and people continue to buy stuff. I think we are pretty long ways away from a depression. The value of the dollar only exists because people believe it does.

      • John Nickerson

I wasn’t talking about the US. We are not even in a recession yet, but Brazil is darn close to a depression which will happen when the banks go under as they did in the thirties in the US.

        • Philosopher

If you don’t think the USSA is in a recession you have no clue.

As long numbers stays written on a piece of paper, they can pass as if things are going good. You’ll know when you see “main street people” going from a sedentary lifestyle “one home, one job”, to a more nomadic “going from job to job, home is where the job is, most likely in the car/motor home”.

  • Richard O. Mann

The local TV news had some economic news yesterday for the month of November. Seems that new car sales, mostly SUVs, were record setting for the month of November. Many people are trading in those smaller, gas saving, vehicles for the larger SUV styles, simply because gas prices have fallen so much this year. The local KIA plant in West Point GA, is still churning out new SUVs and according to KIA America, sells are at record highs. Most of these SUVs are costing over 25 grand upwards to 50 grand if you want all the toys. We Americans just love our big vehicles. Looks like the repo business will be the place to be again once the economy really starts falling out again here in the US. I remember in the 08-09 down turn, repos got so bad, some of the banks and other auto financing companies, were asking for special rates from the repo companies. They had so many loans in default, it was costing them a bundle to have all the vehicles picked up and brought back for auction. That will be the sure sign that the US economy has really started to crash. All these new SUVs start showing up at auctions due to being repossessed.

    • Philosopher

I traded in my 10-year old car and bought a new, smaller, SUV. It is practical. I didn’t get every gagdet available on it. I round up my payment to the nearest $100 every month. Also, I knew this would fit in my budget.

    • Steeve Girard

I guess they haven’t looked at sales per capita. They only compiled the sums of all the sales, like usual.

    • salesman

If you are stupid enough to think that saving a few dollars here and there on gas is reason enough to go out and buy an SUV or a new car, I have a piece of land in the middle of the pacific, if you are interested. The water is free, you just have to pay for the electricity.

  • df NJ

At any moment in time there will be equal evidence for God is winning with blessings for mankind. And there will be equal evidence Satan is winning with curses on mankind. I think who you believe is winning is a personal choice.

And here is my evidence. Every generation faces civilization ending situations. And every generation steps up and survives to the next. No one predicted the success of AC transport of electricity. No one predicted the success of the automobile. No one predicted the success of the airplane. No one predicted how big the Internet would become. These are just a few of the many blessings we have in our lives that for practical purposes are miracles compared to 100 years ago.

So what is the next big miracle? I think it will be one one of three technologies:

    1. Google “Kirk Sorensen molten salt nuclear reactor”

    2. Google “Brillouin Energy Corp: Believe it or not”

    3. Google “Wendelstein 7-X german hot fusion reactor”

With the energy problem solved people will be able to spread out to extremely engineered communities. We will have affordable desalination. We will heated size olympic pools. The overhead of transportation on commerce will become negligible. The opportunities and possibilities are very great for a huge economic boom if the anchor of $40/barrel oil were lifted off the economy’s back.

pains are still only going to see the world through Satan’s lense of nothing but curses. pains are still only going to see the world through Satan’s lense of nothing but curses. What choice will you make?

    • Steeve Girard

Here’s what I think. We exceeded our intellectual capacity to manage our tools, we need at least a 200 000 years of biological evolution to catch-up. We exceeded the resource capacity of the earth, by more than 4 times. I think the Limits to Growth following the Business as Usual model is the way things will go. No matter of new stuff we invent, we will forget age old concepts, and the history that lead to the “modern age” we are in. It is like crashing the first floor of a pyramid. The above floors and the top can’t hold.

      • df NJ

If you study the 3 technologies I cited, smart people are plodding ahead. The stupid masses will catch up at some point.

        • Steeve Girard

Most “smart” people today are parrot repeaters who, have no idea about the woes of what they invent. They are reckless and have no pondering of the consequences. The last of the “true” thinkers, were in the first third of the 20th century. They invented technologies and concepts that were at the limit of our capacities. Now what we invent, is just an offshot thrown, that falls deeper into a void, than from where it was thrown, because we need huge quantities of people, time, money and resources just to take a small step forward. The people from the early 20th century were able to take huge leaps, without any of those, by themselves, and their own single minds.

  • DJohn1

The reason the dollar is flying high?
Maybe because no one trusts the other currencies to remain stable.
But then you have to get back to what is causing currencies to collapse.
I maintain it is because we have an unequal currency exchange with China. They produce goods cheaper than anyone else on the planet. Most businesses and people will go to the lowest common price for an item any where at any time.
Thus you have businesses all over the planet going broke because they cannot compete with China for labor.
This price is maintained by China and supplemented by China to keep the business in China.
    What will change it?
I think the entire world will change it by putting artificial tariffs on everything coming out of China.
Which will not work for long.
The answer China will deliver is to start a World War.
Japan did the same thing in 1941 to us.
The other mechanism by which change will occur is when even the people of China cannot out produce a robot. And that time is rapidly approaching.
3-d printing is becoming more and more practical with every day.
It is still in the infancy stage. But it will be possible to mass produce numerous items cheaper one day with a 3-d printer setup.
Right now it is too slow. Too bulky to be practical.
One economic theory says that the great depression of the 30s was actually caused by the shift of labor to the assembly line. Dozens of trades died when that happened. Others changed.
It was not uncommon in the 19th century for a major newspaper to have 500 printers hand setting type. Then along came the Linotype machine that automated the process. This brought the number down to 200 printers. Half of which were linotype operators.
A competent linotype operator could set 7 lines per minute accurately.
Then came the new machines that could do 15-18 lines per minute only not quite so accurately and run off a teletype tape.
Now you only needed about 120 printers.
Then Mr. Gates produced the PC with Windows. Eventually Macs took over the industry and we had about 30 printers doing what 500 printers were doing originally. All by shifting the work to lower paid employees and by sophisticated printer programs allowing editors to put pages together on screen by themselves.
This story is true. I lived it. I went from a composing room in 1970 of 225 printers down to less than 25 when I retired.
The same thing is happening in all kinds of industries right now.
3-d Printers that do work and are expensive are producing artificial limbs at a fraction of the cost it took just 10 years ago.
We are quickly arriving in an age where automation will take over most of the jobs out there except those requiring a human being with human judgment.
I think plumbing and furnace repair is going to be with us for a long time. So will repairing the sophisticated automated automobiles.
This “depression” we speak of is the result of changing to a world market vs a local market. That is why Detroit is virtually dead.
They cannot compete with cheap labor all over the world.
How long will it last? Probably for the next 20 years.
By then, the entire world will have changed around us.

Great information thank you for your perspective. I repaired teletypes in the military during the cold war. I have also been buying books from Folio of London, that publishes limited editions of Shakespeare on handmade cotton-rag paper and they also use handset letterpress, too! I have spent between $350 and $850 per book. It is a skill, and now, an art that some are willing to pay for. Quality never goes out of style.

I am a huge sci-fi fan. 3-D printers almost remind me of the instant items dispensed in sci-fi novels and movies. I have been waiting for the price to go down so that I could experiment.

Anything made by hand is going to become increasingly more expensive. If you can have a real trade (I just had my heat pump winterized by the local company) or skill you will be able to make money if you are smart and good.

The only constant in life is change.

The Economic Collapse Blog Has Issued A RED ALERT For The Last Six Months Of 2015.

    Published 6/25/2015.

    28 days until 12/31/2015.

Lets do a count down until the end of 2015 and see just what happens.

    ——————————————————————————

    By Michael S, on July 31st, 2015.

“And I kind of appreciate the countdown. It reminds people of my warning, and perhaps it will give some readers a renewed sense of urgency.”

  • CharlesH

We need to remind ourselves that Wall Street is NOT indicative of how well the overall economy is doing. One has nothing to do with the other. I’m mindful of using the word “depression” haphazardly since it’s the absolute worse situation possible. I for one though am all for calling a spade a spade and not sugar coat things. Americans absolutely need to sit up and pay attention to what is going on in the ‘big picture’ – it’s not all about you or your FaceBook page.

Have you talked to real people or looked around your neighborhood or gone shopping at your local grocery store on the first of the month? I have. I went shopping yesterday. Seniors were out shopping and reading every price label before putting anything in their basket. I have seen older men bring manilla folders with coupons. There are a few FSBO signs in my neighborhood. (FSBO: For Sale By Owner) Anytime someone thinks they can sell their house in my area at this time of year has to be desperate. No one moves now unless they have no other option.

Another website I go to has a user that works for UPS and he has started giving reports on the amount of freight they unload and ship out. What have they said? Down.

In my neighborhood people have not started digging up their yards to raise chickens and rabbits or to plant their own veggies. Yet.

Wow! Oil prices tanked today. Glad I was short oil :)

    Found this rather interesting:

“Companies are defaulting on their debt like it’s 2009. Blame cheap oil.
Global corporate defaults exceeded 100 so far this year, according to Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services.

That’s already double the amount of defaults in all of 2014. It also represents the first time the triple-digit default milestone has been crossed since the end of the Great Recession six years ago.” From CNN

Who would have thought cheaper oil could have such a negative impact. We loved cheap gas in the 90s as it helped the economy. Because of excessive debt and poor speculation cheap oil is killing the global economy.

      Oil is going DOWN:

“With the generation of the first plasma the Wendelstein 7-X fusion device is scheduled to go into operation on time in December 2015 at the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP) in Greifswald/Germany. The experiments will begin with a plasma consisting of the noble gas helium. The Wendelstein 7-X fusion device is the world’s largest and most advanced device of the stellarator type. Its objective is to investigate the suitability of this type for a power plant.”

Do not forget treasuries dumping from China and Russia, also QE dollars returning home to roost.

Why our economy will never recover:

“Data from tax returns show that the top 1 percent of households received 8.9 percent of all pre-tax income in 1976. In 2012, the top 1 percent share had more than doubled to 22.46 percent.”

No jobs, no customers, no customers, no profit.

    • Steeve Girard

      I agree on this.

  • GSOB

Did we just get attacked by ISIS in San Bernardino?
    Roll call.

    Report.

    • Jazz

Isis is not taking credit but praising the attack. If it were them I would think they would’ve taken credit.

      • GSOB

        14 dead, 17 wounded.
        Thank You.
ISIS tactics is strike, wait for law enforcement to close in at the aftermath, then a bomb takes them out.

        That has not happened.
I doubt its ISIS but FBI says not sure.

        • Jazz

It looks like they caught two of shooters and one was on the run the last I saw. They did find a suspicious package left behind by the shooters that was suspected to be a bomb. It is probably a group that sympathizes with Isis. Was interesting that they chose to attack a Christmas party

          • GSOB

Yeah….one of them a female shooter.
            It may just be ISIL.

          • Jazz

What a surprise. They are Muslims – Syed Farook is one of the shooters.

          • Bill G Wilminton NC

            ISIS

How many banks here are loaning heavily to oil companies? You know it’s bad when they’re saying they are loaning them more money because the collateral they would get in default isn’t worth nearly what it was when they started the loans.

  • Wake Up

OK it is now December and there is not much time left for Mikey’s big prediction he made for the US 5 months ago. If it does not happen will you people finally move on? Or will you continue to allow fear mongering to rule you in 2016?

    • Airedale

      Wake up, troll.

The rest of us like to read what Michael has to say, not because he is infallible, but because we want to stand prepared for the worst that could be headed our way. We all want him to be wrong. We want to live in an era of good times. However, some of us are old and/or wise enough to realize history has its ups and downs.

We see Michael as having the insight, research and courage to make bold and dark predictions. We see you trolls as having neither insight, intellect nor courage.

So go ahead and troll away. If the crap should hit
the fan one dark day, to us who are prepared, we will consider you nothing more that zombie bait.

The great trib has come and gone.

The wheat and tare grow together until the end of this age.

Angels will gather up the tares into bundles and toss them into the fire.

When you pray, do it this way. ‘Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. ‘Give us this day our daily bread.…

    • GSOB

For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building.
      1 Cor. 3:9

    • John Stewart

The great trib has not even started yet, and the end of the age is at the end of the millenium reign of Christ not before. The scriptures in Matt 13 are very clear when it says “his kingdom”. Christ’s kingdom is the 1000 years after the Tribulation. It also says the harvesters are angels, this doesn’t happen at the resurrection or rapture. When the devil is released from his bottomless pit after the 1000 years, he gathers many followers who march against Jerusalem. They are all killed. Then Jesus sends out his angels to gather the rest of the unbelievers from among the people, and they end up in the lake of fire, and then (finally) there is a new heaven and earth created where no unbelief or rebellion occurs ever again and were no more mortals live, only those who have been granted eternal life.

Makes one wonder why there are so many different opinions on what will happen when what you said is clearly written.

Attention disorder or learning disability or what? I have no explanation.

  • alan

Must not be too bad yet, the military is quiet. People are not in the streets as far as I know. Need to upgrade them to just a recession.

    you’re a winner!

“Godwin’s law (or Godwin’s rule of Nazi analogies) is an Internet adage asserting that “As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1″—that is, if an online discussion (regardless of topic or scope) goes on long enough, sooner or later someone will compare someone or something to Hitler or Nazism….”
