NAFTA Is 20 Years Old – Here Are 20 Facts That Show How It Is Destroying The Economy

Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Google+Share on LinkedInShare on StumbleUponEmail this to someone

NAFTA LogoBack in the early 1990s, the North American Free Trade Agreement was one of the hottest political issues in the country.  When he was running for president in 1992, Bill Clinton promised that NAFTA would result in an increase in the number of high quality jobs for Americans that it would reduce illegal immigration.  Ross Perot warned that just the opposite would happen.  He warned that if NAFTA was implemented there would be a “giant sucking sound” as thousands of businesses and millions of jobs left this country.  Most Americans chose to believe Bill Clinton.  Well, it is 20 years later and it turns out that Perot was right and Clinton was dead wrong.  But now history is repeating itself, and most Americans don’t even realize that it is happening.  As you will read about at the end of this article, Barack Obama has been negotiating a secret trade treaty that is being called “NAFTA on steroids”, and if Congress adopts it we could lose millions more good paying jobs.

It amazes me how the American people can fall for the same lies over and over again.  The lies that serial liar Barack Obama is telling about “free trade” and the globalization of the economy are the same lies that Bill Clinton was telling back in the early 1990s.  The following is an excerpt from a recent interview with Paul Craig Roberts

I remember in the 90′s when former Presidential candidate Ross Perot emphatically stated that NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) would create a giant “sucking sound” of jobs being extracted away from the U.S.  He did not win the election, and NAFTA was instituted on Jan. 1, 1994. Now, 20 years later, we see the result of all the jobs that have been “sucked away” to other countries.

According to an article by the Economic Policy Institute on 1/3/14:

“Clinton and his collaborators promised that the deal would bring “good-paying American jobs,” a rising trade surplus with Mexico, and a dramatic reduction in illegal immigration. Considering that thousands of kids are pouring over the border as we speak, well, how’d that work out for us?

Many Americans like to remember Bill Clinton as a “great president” for some reason.  Well, it turns out that he was completely and totally wrong about NAFTA.  The following are 20 facts that show how NAFTA is destroying the economy…

#1 More than 845,000 American workers have been officially certified for Trade Adjustment Assistance because they lost their jobs due to imports from Mexico or Canada or because their factories were relocated to those nations.

#2 Overall, it is estimated that NAFTA has cost us well over a million jobs.

#3 U.S. manufacturers pay Mexican workers just a little over a dollar an hour to do jobs that American workers used to do.

#4 The number of illegal immigrants living in the United States has more than doubled since the implementation of NAFTA.

#5 In the year before NAFTA, the U.S. had a trade surplus with Mexico and the trade deficit with Canada was only 29.6 billion dollars.  Last year, the U.S. had a combined trade deficit with Mexico and Canada of 177 billion dollars.

#6 It has been estimated that the U.S. economy loses approximately 9,000 jobs for every 1 billion dollars of goods that are imported from overseas.

#7 One professor has estimated that cutting the total U.S. trade deficit in half would create 5 million more jobs in the United States.

#8 Since the auto industry bailout, approximately 70 percent of all GM vehicles have been built outside the United States.  In fact, many of them are now being built in Mexico.

#9 NAFTA hasn’t worked out very well for Mexico either.  Since 1994, the average yearly rate of economic growth in Mexico has been less than one percent.

#10 The exporting of massive amounts of government-subsidized U.S. corn down into Mexico has destroyed more than a million Mexican jobs and has helped fuel the continual rise in the number of illegal immigrants coming north.

#11 Someone making minimum wage in Mexico today can buy 38 percent fewer consumer goods than the day before NAFTA went into effect.

#12 Overall, the United States has lost a total of more than 56,000 manufacturing facilities since 2001.

#13 Back in the 1980s, more than 20 percent of the jobs in the United States were manufacturing jobs.  Today, only about 9 percent of the jobs in the United States are manufacturing jobs.

#14 We have fewer Americans working in manufacturing today than we did in 1950 even though our population has more than doubled since then.

#15 Back in 1950, more than 80 percent of all men in the United States had jobs.  Today, only 65 percent of all men in the United States have jobs.

#16 As I wrote about recently, one out of every six men in their prime working years (25 to 54) do not have a job at this point.

#17 Because we have shipped millions of jobs overseas, the competition for the jobs that remain has become extremely intense and this has put downward pressure on wages.  Right now, half the country makes $27,520 a year or less from their jobs.

#18 When adults cannot get decent jobs, it is often children that suffer the most.  It is hard to believe, but more than one out of every five children in the United States is living in poverty in 2014.

#19 In 1994, only 27 million Americans were on food stamps.  Today, more than 46 million Americans are on food stamps.

#20 According to Professor Alan Blinder of Princeton University, 40 million more U.S. jobs could be sent offshore over the next two decades if current trends continue.

For much more on this, please watch the video by Charlie LeDuff posted below.  It is well worth a few minutes of your time…

So if NAFTA is so bad for American workers, then why don’t our politicians just repeal it?

Well, unfortunately most of them are not willing to do this because it is part of a larger agenda.  For decades, politicians from both major political parties have been working to slowly integrate North America.  The eventual goal is to turn North America into another version of the European Union.

Just check out what former general and CIA chief David Petraeus had to say about this

After America comes North America,” Petraeus said confidently in answering the question about what comes after the United States, the theme of the panel discussion. “Are we on the threshold of the North American decade, question mark? I threw that away — threw away the question mark — and boldly proclaimed the coming North American decade, says the title now.” He also boasted about how the three economies have been put “together” over the last 20 years as part of the “implementation” of the North American Free Trade Act.

The “highly integrated” forces of Canada, the United States, and Mexico, Petraeus continued, will become the world’s powerhouse for energy and science. “There are four revolutions that are ongoing at various levels in each of the countries but foremost in the United States,” said the former CIA chief, who now serves as chairman of the KKR Global Institute. “The energy revolution is the first of those, which has created the biggest change in geopolitics since the rise of China since 1978.” The other “revolutions” include IT, manufacturing, and life sciences, which, “as highly integrated as they are, allow you to argue that after America comes North America,” he added.

When you hear our politicians talk about “free trade”, what they are really talking about is integrating us even further into the emerging one world economic system.  And over the past couple of years, Barack Obama has been negotiating a secret treaty which would send the deindustrialization of America into overdrive.  The formal name of this secret agreement is “the Trans-Pacific Partnership”, and it would ultimately result in millions more good jobs being sent to the other side of the planet where it is legal to pay slave labor wages.  The following is a description of this insidious treaty from one of my previous articles

Did you know that the Obama administration is negotiating a super secret “trade agreement” that is so sensitive that he isn’t even allowing members of Congress to see it?  The Trans-Pacific Partnership is being called the “NAFTA of the Pacific” and “NAFTA on steroids”, but the truth is that it is so much more than just a trade agreement.  This treaty has 29 chapters, but only 5 of them have to do with trade.  Most Americans don’t realize this, but this treaty will fundamentally change our laws regarding Internet freedom, health care, the trading of derivatives, copyright issues, food safety, environmental standards, civil liberties and so much more.  It will also merge the United States far more deeply into the emerging one world economic system.  Initially, twelve nations will be a party to this treaty including the United States, Mexico, Canada, Japan, Australia, Brunei, Chile, Malaysia, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam.  Together, those nations represent approximately 40 percent of global GDP.  It is hoped that additional nations such as the Philippines, Thailand and Colombia will join the treaty later on.

Unfortunately, most Americans are as uneducated about these issues as they were back in 1994.

That is why we need to get this information out to as many people as we can.

So what is your perspective on all of this?  Please feel free to share your thoughts by posting a comment below…

One world government, one world economy with a computer mark to buy and sell. These Bible prophecies are coming true. The United States is not a world player anymore just a mere spectator that has wasted trillions of dollars on useless wars and forgot why this country was founded. Reagan’s reference to the old Soviet Union ending up in the dust bin of history now it’s our turn and we have no one to blame but ourselves.

    • Mike Smithy

Right you are. The USA has been diminished to nothing more than economic trade zone.

    • not me

its not a computer mark. It will be an RFID chip imbedded in your body. like your pet.

      • Bruce

It’s neither. It is your debit card. You are already marked!!!!!!!!!!

  • K

The Trans-Pacific Partnership, is just the next part of the plan. From the elites standpoint, Americas economy must be completely destroyed. From what I have read about this plan, it should finish off what is left of the economy. Think of the Great Depression, with a lot more violence. What happened in Ferguson last night, was just a training exercise, compared to what is coming. Next time you see that much armor roll out, the bullets will not be rubber.

    • MichaelfromTheEconomicCollapse

It is true K. As the economy tanks, the civil unrest in cities like Ferguson is going to get much worse. And whenever civil unrest does pop up, the authorities will crack down on it brutally. You can read what I wrote about the situation in Ferguson yesterday right here…

      • alan

If things unravel then all these foreign agreements are worthless. The system must brake in order to be fixed.

      Spot on!

    • Demi Monde

And why is that? Why do the “elites” think the American economy must be completely destroyed?

      • kfilly

You can’t have global communism with a capitalist country even though we are already a fascist nation due to our fascist banking system. They have to break down the current system to get as many people dependent upon the government. When people get handouts from the government, the government controls them. For example, turn in your guns if you like to eat. Most people will turn in their guns when they are striving and promised things like food. It happened a few times in history. Stalin used taxation and inflation to crush the middle class. Hitler rose to power as the result of horrible economic conditions in Weimar Germany. Sensing Sensing trend yet. We are next.

    So true,so true.

  • Sandbagger

All these are pretty packaged (lied about) to get people to accept them. Just as was Obamacare. Just as was Satan’s promise to Eve.
Other than a lie being common to all, notice greed is also common to all. Greed on the part of the liar AND those lied to.
The Bible says the love of money is the root of ALL evil. What is money? Power. Eve wanted power and on it went from there. The ROOT of all this evil is simply the love of power.

    • GSOB

The love of money causes all kinds of trouble. Some people want money so much that they have given up their faith and caused themselves a lot of pain.

I remember as a teenager Growing up in Titusville Fl near The shuttle my pastor warned and warned the congregation that NAFTA was bad. Most of the church elders worked at the now closed space center and supporting companies. I heard the whole area is one of the most depressed areas in FL now. All those jobs are gone and the local area is empty now.

    • Bill

What you don’t hear is the Space Coast economy is coming back as the private space industry is filling the void.

      • That guy

I live in titusville currently and that is not even close to true, this city is depressed as hell the only businesses having success here are some franchises and walmart.

  • Kent Harris

I hope Clinton burns in hell. He lied to the American people. He should have been tried for treason. ‘Slick Willy’ along with NAFTA, he also provide the Chinese with missile technology.

    • laura m.

Scum politicians lie, Bush Sr and Jr along with Clinton and Obozo are all resp. for NAFTA and trashing the jobs. Short wave talk radio exposed this in the early 90’s the only alternative news back then. I haven’t voted in decades as scum lying politicians (congress, etc) are bought off and do exactly as they are told as they have chain of command and kow tow to their bosses from the top dogs down to the local levels. Since the country is trashed and patriots work informing others for decades has been in vain, all we can do now is enjoy what time is left. The worse thing to do would be to start a family, which will be a burden, expense, and a zero future for young people. The riots in Jefferson, Mo are angry unemployed blacks that are on edge waiting for excuses to rob and riot, and other cities are on the brink for same thing. No borders=no country. I have to run and p/u some BBQ!

      • Malcolm Reynolds

        Short wave talk radio
?? Is that something other than regular AM talk radio? I’ve never heard AM talk referred to as short wave talk.

        Good luck with the BBQ.

        • Priszilla

short wave, medium wave, long wave use amplitude modulation (am) , ultra short wave uses frequency modulation (fm).

    • JustanOguy

I hope the majority of politicians in Washington D.C. burn in hell…

      • TheSmokeGuy

And of course the “D’s,” who are greatly supported by the labor unions, eliminated quite a few union jobs. Yet labor unions always support the Democrats.

    • Orange Jean

And horrible that Obama is… I personally feel that Hillary would be even WORSE!

… and Hillary, if you’re reading this… I’m a woman. So don’t go making any d*mn assumptions that I’m “ready” for you!

I’m not sure the Amero will come about. The US would loose control over the printing press. But… In some ways they could hide a lot of inflation in the intitial conversion. Then hit you up on exchange rates. Pay you in dollars then force you to buy Amero to pay bills or something like that. A new currency is a good way to hide a lot of failure, until it fails. Its just that pesky Constitution is standing in the way!

        What constitution?

  • NAFTA actually began years before 1994. I came to your country in 1989 under a “Treaty NAFTA” or TN work visa that was good for 1 year and was renewable.

Ross Perot was made a deal that he couldn’t refuse (to drop out of the Presidential Elections); that’s the way “democracy” and “free elections” work in the United States of Death, Disease and Destruction.

    • VegasBob

Actually, the beginning of the death of the US economy was enacted into law on August 5, 1983, when President Ronald Reagan signed the Caribbean Basin Economic Recovery Act (CBERA). CBERA took effect on January 1, 1984.

I think CBERA was the first of the “free trade” agreements that have destroyed the US economy over the last 30 years. My recollection is that the basic purpose of this trade agreement was to export the American textile industry and its jobs to Central America.

However, CBERA was like a little wave washing up on the shore compared to NAFTA, which has operated much like a slow-motion tsunami to wash away the foundations of the US economy.

Worst of all was the nuclear detonation of the US economy that occurred on October 10, 2000, when President Bill Clinton signed the China trade bill granting permanent normal trade status to China.

The mushroom cloud destroying the US economy has been expanding ever since.

If President Barack Obama is successful in implementing his Trans-Pacific-Partnership, it will guarantee that the US economy degenerates into a Third World economy within a few short years.

      • You are of course right about the real beginning of the “third-worldization” of good old USA.

I was referring to when NAFTA began, which is a different thing.

Reagan, that great hero of those on the “right”, began the destruction on Day Uno of his inauguration with the firing of the FDA director so that he could get a friendly FDA director to approve the deadly aspartame that was being peddled by his chum Donald Rumsfeld who headed the GD Searle Corp at that time.

Aspartame is this most deadly sugar substitute that can cause seisures that most airlines forbit their pilots to drink . . . while their

        • Orange Jean

I agree with you on aspartame… horrible stuff!

      • You are of course correct, but I was talking about when NAFTA began which are two different issues.

Reagan, the hero of those on the “right”, began his destruction of good old USA on Day UNO of his inauguration when he fired the FDA direction so that he could appoint a friendly FDA direction to approve aspartame that was being peddled by his chum Donald Rumsfeld.

Aspartame is so deadly as it cause seizures among other deadly effects that the major airlines all forbid their pilots to drink it when on duty . . . while their “flight attendants” are happily giving it to their customers in the rear as diet coke, diet pepsi, etc.

The United States of Death, Disease and Destruction . . . a new CDC report just came out that type 2 dibieties is going to affect 40% of the population . . . wonder why?!?

      • PryingOpenMyThirdEye

Actually, the end of the US Economy began December 23, 1913, with the signing of the Federal Reserve Act.

  • VegasBob

“The “highly integrated” forces of Canada, the United States, and Mexico, Petraeus continued, will become the world’s powerhouse for energy and science.”

I almost spit out my coffee when I read that lie.

Mexico is a country that is largely comprised of agrarian peasants who have no future in Mexico. That is why they stream north across the border by the millions, law or no law.

Here in the US, we’ve been overrun by agrarian peasants from south of the border. These peasants have no cultural history that includes Western-style education. As for our American-born population, we’ve graduated 2 generations of dumbed-down illiterates over the past 40 years. Today, most college freshmen cannot even take freshman-level courses until they’ve had a year of remedial education. I was a university instructor for years, and I doubt it’s gotten any better since I retired in 2005.

Lastly, Canada’s economy is hugely dependent on natural resource extraction. While a huge segment of Canadian resources are energy-related, the idea that the US is going to achieve energy independence through fracking and other high-technology approaches, here or in Canada, is a myth. Fracked oil and gas wells generally have 80-90% depletion rates within 2 years, which means we must continuously drill new wells just to replace the production that has been depleted.

And North America is going to be “the world’s powerhouse for energy and science.”

    What a crock!

    • JustanOguy

      Very Well Stated…

It’s about time for Caucasians to go back to Europe. Rediscover your roots. America is being run over. It’s been a good run. However, since the Globalists aim to turn North America into a 3rd world sh*thole, don’t bother waiting for the inevitable.

You won’t be unwelcome in Europe. Move back and flush out the Muslim hoards. No offense to them. They can go back to the Middle East with their newfound skills.

It’s better to move to a place where you’ll have respect versus an alien in the nation in which you were born. Think about it.

      • VegasBob

My grandparents were born in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. I have their birth certificates, so I think I could claim Hungarian citizenship under Hungary’s citizenship law.

      • JustanOguy

I grew up in West Germany…. Looking so forward to going back especially after living in Las Vegas and seeing first hand how the invasion of the illegals are destroying the country.

I remember when Vegas used to be the place you went when your luck ran out. No more. They don’t want you. They want the cheap brown hands. We have been marginalized in our own country. It’s going to get ugly.

        • VegasBob

Vegas has turned into a Third World hellhole. It’s going to wither away due to drought, regardless. I’m glad I got out for good a few years back.

          • Hammerstrike

What do you know about what is going on in Las Vegas?

      • Orange Jean

No interest for me! For one thing, I’d have to be split in half or something…. since my fathers family originated in Poland whereas my mothers family was from the Azores.

I have no interest whatsoever in even visiting Europe… especially since becoming aware of how very socialist so many of those countries are. I can understand their desire to “flush out the Muslim hoards” however…

        • laura m.

Europeans have no gun rights and are too damn stupid/cowardly/lazy to stand up for their culture; they can go to hell. I spoke to a German couple visiting the park near me, if anyone speaks out (esp against Muslims) and are heard by police, etc. they get arrested for hate speech. The churches (like ours will soon be) are spy centers for this type of talk. Ditch the 501c3 churches now, DHS has infiltrated them. Church leaders are bought and gelded.

          • Orange Jean

Wow! That sure sounds like that’s what they are trying to do here (“progressives”, aka liberals that is)… at the very least we’re on the brink of it!

I wonder if the reason Gov. Perry is being charged with federal crimes (overstepping his power by veto, ha!) has purely to do with the fact that Obama et al. think he’s “mean” because he ordered National Guard troops to the border.

      • laura m.

Europe is a third world hell hole because Muslims rule, Shiria law is being enforced in various areas there. Why should white people move there, we didn’t ask to be born here and we have worked jobs and own farms, businesses, houses, etc. So go tell white ancestors at the cemeteries to move their freakin corpses back there as they were the immigrants not me or those alive today. I was in Europe long ago, before the Muslim issue, and it was over pop, crowded, dirty and cold. Few drove cars and dumb masses lived in stack and pack housing. Socialist rulers, no freedom like here. In a few yrs we will be like Europe with no rights since there are so few informed to stand up.

        • Gay Veteran

“Europe is a third world hell hole because Muslims rule, Shiria law is being enforced in various areas there….”

          exaggerate much?

Maybe as a guy (I assume you are a man, since you don’t call your self Lesbian Veteran)… you think Sharia is nothing to worry about.

But guess again, they hate gays as much as they hate women. I’ll have nothing to do with that intolerance!

          • Gay Veteran

I’m not wetting my pants over them.

    • Orange Jean

Maybe that’s where they came up with the “Common Core” idea. Most of the illegals I’d met (back in my liberal days, I did know some… because I spoke Spanish and was living in southern CA)… had at best a 2-3rd grade education. Hardly up for becoming leaders in science. However, I believe the Trans-Pacific thing is a plan to overcome that because a lot of Asians are smart and well educated, albeit used to working for a lot less. Bye bye IT! (alas)

We swirl in the Toilet Bowl of Doom.

Michael you are understating the bigger plan. It is so much more than the North America Union. Throw in the Trans-Pacific Partnership and we are already in bed with the EU and what do you have??? The NWO. Global currency. global police, global laws. Cloward and Piven realized.

Here is how I think things are going to roll. A huge false flag or a combination of a bunch of smaller ones. WW III. Economic collapse. Cyber attack to steal everyone’s money. Martial Law. Millions and probably Billions are going to die. It is a reset of epic proportions. Out of chaos comes order. Ukraine/ISIS/Israel/Border/Ebola/Fergusen. Most of the world right now is in utter chaos. Riots are happening all over South America. The EU is in dire straits.

    Something wicked this way come!

    • alan

Once you have all the power and consolidate all the money the game is complete. There is nothing more to be gained, no more expansion.

  • Maple Curtain

Michael: Canada has been very hard hit by NAFTA as well, particularly, the former leading manufacturing province of Ontario. The only economy left here seems to be building houses for all of the new immigrants in the never-ending Ponzi scheme that is the welfare state. I think, without checking stats, that oil and gas exports, if counted in the trade deficit, might account for the entire Canadian trade surplus with the U.S. Your thoughts?

  • JustanOguy

Michael…. you should do an article on all of the companies that have moved their manufacturing facilities overseas and are NOT passing on their savings to the U.S. consumer.

These companies are paying less than $2 an hour for their employees and are pocketing the profits being made instead of passing on the savings…. Concerned citizens should be enlightened on what companies to AVOID buying from.

Met the former CFO of Ralph Lauren a couple of years back who was instrumental on moving their manufacturing to Asia back when Ralph Lauren was struggling…. prices didn’t go down for Polo and now Ralph Lauren is worth billions.

It is noteworthy to mention that Republicans drafted NAFTA and almost unanimously voted to pass it and were the primary promoters of it to the idiot Americans.

IT is noteworthy to mention that they are heavily behind the new agreement to create the North American Union.

No matter who is in the White House the Shadow government CABAL runs DC through BOTH parties.

The whole world KNOWS this except the sleeping Americans who are rabidly gearing up for football season.

I love Manhattan, Hays, Lawrence and Great Bend.

          • XSANDIEGOCA

Thanks for the tip. What about gun laws?

          • Mike Smithy

When the SHTF no place in America will be safe.

Have you read about the BP spill and the methane gas that has been created by the clean up?

Apparently the clean up has created methane gas that is flowing under the whole central and southeast part of the country.

IT is likely causing the earthquakes in Oklahoma, where I am from and in Kansas, Nebraska, etc. I grew up in Oklahoma and we NEVER had earthquakes and a week ago they had 27 in ONE day.

It has been said for twenty years that the NEXT possible BIG earthquake will be in that part of the country.

Whistle blowers have said for a decade that ONE way the feds may crash the nation and herd everyone into the FEMA camps is to open the NY levies like they did in NOLA and flood the nation’s bread basket which they believed would set off the big quake and take out the entire grain growing part of the country.

I would not be moving there. ALSO the oil spill and clean up (which was planned weeks before the spill with Halliburton) have caused extreme poisons in the entire GULF and it is growing all the way up to N. Carolina on the East side of the coast. I live in Myrtle Beach. Red seas and dead fish are washing up all around the whole area from Texas to N.Car.

People are getting sick from the fish AND people are finding little pieces of OIL in their foods on the Gulf.

IF I were you I would GET out of the country. I am leaving very soon. You can live in many more safer countries a lot cheaper than here. You can check out expats websites online where millions of Americans who have expatriated who LOVE their new homes.

THEY usually list as their FIRST thing that they love is that other nations are way freer with way fewer regulations and street fighting, and GOV. tyranny in their new homes.

THEY also note on a regular basis that it is easy to live in a nation that costs a third of what it costs to live here.

In Ecuador, for instance you can buy health insurance for $150 per mo. and that includes state of the art hospitals and clinics and home doctor visits with western trained English speaking doctors.

THEY report most of these nations are far more carefree than here and the people are not walking zombies like here.

Everyone speaks as though it is like going back to the 50’s and 60’s here.

NO place is going to be safe from the camps here. THEY did not build 800 of them for NOTHING. WHEN you see them online it is clear they spent millions to build each one.

AND YOU can check out any time you want—-BUT you can never leave.

THERE are stories of homeless people who have been taken to them who HAVE to get RFID chipped to EAT there and they can NEVER leave.

I would get out. Just sayin’ 5 million people will leave this year alone for good and since 2008 20 million people have expatriated already.

          • Orange Jean

Your choice of course, but I’d be *very* careful when picking a place to move to. There is a lot of hype about some places that have a reputation of being safe to live outside the US, not necessarily true.

For example, I’ve seen ads about Belize being “safe, clean, etc.” But I had a friend who was from Mexico who bought land in Belize about 30 years ago who was planning on retiring there. I was considering joining her there and had planned on visiting. Then she started telling me how dangerous the country was in many parts, due to the drug trade… and that is coming from a women who is very liberal!

Last time I heard from her, shortly after 911… .she had decided to forfit that land and not ever go back to Belize because sof how dangerous it was.

          • peace angel

I agree with you. That is why I don’t get my information from travel magazines.

I have been writing back and forth to EXPATS in three countries and have seen many nations go to the dogs over the past 30 years.

When I was living in Mexico in the 70’s and then the last time in 2000 things were night and day.

Everything south of us has become a war zone because of our failed war on drugs and because they make loads of money bringing drugs to the US.

          • Shep Schultz

Still waiting on source for your claim BP oil spill is causing earthquakes in Oklahoma.

          • peace angel

I told you I am done talking to you. I told you to leave me alone and then you sent me 10 more comments.

I did not read them, but this one just got opened on accident.

I googled this exact search “BP oil spill causes methane gas/ earthquakes.

I found 5,444,000 articles on the subject. Although I did not put Oklahoma in the search IT STILL came up in the titles of numerous articles.

I told you from day one I don’t do research for anyone. DON’T wait—USE your search engine, jerk.

          • Shep Schultz

Cupcake, I know you still care, but you really are too old for me.
How do you open a discus feed on “accident”?
All I want is for you to substantiate your claim about the graphic showing how methane from the BP oil spill made it to Oklahoma where it causes Earthquakes?
Did your brother tell you where the Kirkpatric Planetarium was from 1958 until the late ’80s?
Did you forget the part about Haliburton being a commercial oilfield services operation which contracts to clean up at a set price in the event of a spill?
You sound a little angry. Did your unicorn give you saddle sores this morning?
Substantiate you claim, or quit making it.
            Miss you! (but not much)

          • peace angel

            LOOK IT UP LOSER

          • Shep Schultz

You made the claim, repeatedly, to different people, in different forums, even after you were called out on it.
            Back it up.

          • Shep Schultz

Either produce your evidence, stop making the claim, or expect me to follow you around asking you to back it up.
You opened the door with a statement that is looking more and more like a lie. I simply am walking through it.
“Research(ers)” are expected to be able to back up their claims and to justify their assertions.

          • Shep Schultz

By the way. Effect is a noun. Affect is a verb.

          • XSANDIEGOCA

I have heard some very good things about Ecuador. Will investigate. thanks!

          • peace angel

Watch what is happening with the US dollar there. It is the only south american country that still uses the dollar as their primary currency, but they are going to e-cash and the jury is still out on how safe that will be.

IT is being brought out by the Rothschild cabal.

Correa hates the US so there is talk of changing the national currency.

BP and several other UK and US companies have destroyed all the s. american countries with fracking and foresting and mining and they promised the countries they would CLEAN up and would REFOREST and they have not.

ALL these countries are suing both countries because they left poisons in the air, soil and waterways just like in the US and they DO NOT CLEAN UP anything. THEY do this worldwide which has added to the hatred of the US and the UK and Australia and New Zealand all of whom are BIG players in the NWO takeover of the world.

Unlike Americans people all over the world are AWARE of all of this and keep up with current affairs which is WHY the whole world of baby boomers kids are protesting and rioting against their governments about everything including OUR abuse of their countries, while the millennials in the US are literally “KEEPING UP WITH THE KARDASHIANS”

Go to the expats international site and you can talk to expats worldwide. :Make sure they are keeping up with the crime rate and the economy and the politics of the country they live in.

There is a guy who is a realtor on the Beach in Ecuador. I forget the name of the beach. HE left Cali a decade or so ago and he says the beaches there are like Redondo and Hermosa Beach in the 70’s with regard to prices and number of new start ups and much fewer people.

I will look for my info on this guy and his area. It was my fav.

HE is really sharp and should KNOW what is going on with the economy, but he may NOT know the FEDS here are about to crash the US economy and the US dollar as the world’s currency.

THEY are just now requiring some countries to put poisonous chemicals on the food there and Monsanto is all over the place with GMO’s, etc BUT they are not going for it as easily as we did. We are one of the only nations on earth who have not banned GMO’S because there has been NO demand to do so.

WHOLE FOODS is filled with products with GMO’S in them and nobody cares.

LET me know what you find. I just googled methane gas/
earthquakes and Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska and more midwest states come up as having sink holes, explosions and earthquakes as a result of these gaseous poisons all over those states.

America is the MODEL for the world for the NWO. JUST get out.

For those of us who remember another America, this is enough to make you cry. They have us over a table and are having their way with us and … I am being polite. What an utter disaster for the American and Mexican People! Take a good look at the Charlie Lebuff link. Mark my words, this will be how Americans will be living in very short order. Now you understand why the government is so intent to eviscerate the second amendment and turn the NSA/IRS loose on us. They know exactly what they are doing. They know we seethe with rebellion and anger and are preparing the machinery of repression to keep us firmly under their thumb. This is no longer the country I grew up in. Two things: Perot was right and so is Peace Angel below this comment. Obama is going to do two final things: Legalize the TENS OF MILLIONS of Illegals and pass the TPP. Keep in mind NOT A WORD OF PROTEST from the GOP. Once that is done, amigos, America will be “transformed” and your children and grandchildren will spit on your graves! HOAX and CHAINS!!

    • Orange Jean

I’m sorry to say I must agree with you. One thing is … you probably have a different perspective than most since I assume from your moniker you live in or came from San Diego. I was born and raised in MA, and considered myself liberal… until I spent a few years in Orange County CA and saw the truth.

I also lived in San Diego County for a while, miss it in many ways… but think it’s gotten to be a pretty dangerous place to live due to proximity to the border.

We are looking at Wyoming for retirement very carefully. It is a place where you can legally own a 30 round magazine for your AR15. Here in Lotus Land you can not own an AR15 and you are limited to a 10 round magazine. Need I say more?

        • Orange Jean

I have a friend who was originally from the Bay area, I knew him when he was in San Diego… but he and his family lived in Wyoming when he was in college and they LOVED it!

It’s my understanding their hunting is great there and the economy is in pretty solid shape (at one point recently had one of the lowest unemployment rates). The only reason I haven’t considered relocating there is I have severe arthritis and cold weather is really a problem.

Another area I was considering (and would love to explore as a possibility) is West Texas… since I seem to do best, health wise, in a warm but dry climate. Anyone on this board have any comments about West Texas (and if so, good vs. bad areas to consider?). My main concern about going that far south and west is the proximity to the border.

          • XSANDIEGOCA

I know it well. It’s a fine place to live. Many people own guns so you would be a fool to start something you could not finish. For economic opportunity the Midland-Odessa area is where you want to be. Midland is where the “owners” live. Odessa is where the “workers” live. They are just 20 miles apart. Airport is very convenient between them. Everything caters to the Permian Basin oil field, which surrounds the towns. The economy is booming. If you want something more rural, suggest Alpine, Marfa or Ft. Davis all further West. You may want to check out Pecos and Ft. Stockton while you are at it. The climate can be hot in the Summer but dry. Ft. Davis sits at 6K feet as I recall so it is cooler in the Summer. Texans and Mexicans get along better in Texas than any place I have been. Frankly, you can’t go wrong in West Texas.

          • Orange Jean

Thanks for the suggestions! This notion all started when I accidentally locked myself out of a hotel somewhere out there… at 5:30AM or so… thinking the diner would be open that early, only to find it was only open early during hunting season. I spent the next hour or so driving in the pitch dark, following tail lights in the far distance, while trying to miss hopping jackrabbits and hoping I was still on the road!

I’ve been a kind of back country girl for quite some time, and usually do OK in heat if it’s dry … and really OK in the mountains.

          • XSANDIEGOCA

PS – Driving 100 miles in that neck of the woods is nothing.

        • tacoma

Sure go to Wyoming and enjoy your big firearm. But careful not to bring the hardware cross the north border. Up there, there are no gun-worshipers and the law comes down hard for gun smuggling.

          • XSANDIEGOCA

Oh, don’t you worry about that.

  • Selaretus

It occurs to me that the ones making decisions about ‘American jobs’ are all multi millionaires who are completely unaffected by the outcomes of those decisions with fat Government pensions waiting for them.

Voting today is like dealing with a recalcitrant vending machine. Put in a buck and push Democrat. You get a cup but no Coke. Try it again, and push GOP. You get Coke but no cup. Bottom line: No Coke, No Cup. It is time to face the fact that there is not a dimes worth of difference between the GOP and the Democrats. That is what Perot said and Perot was right! There is only one party, the Incumbent Party. Vote for either the GOP or the Democrats and you play the Vending Machine Game. That said, I am not sure that voting makes much of a difference anymore. Not sure what to about it but when they play the national anthem and wave the flag, plucking on those mystic chords of memory at the football game it might be a good time to go to the bathroom. Let’s stop playing their game, their way.

  • Nothern Cousin Bob

I can assure you we Canadians wish to have more indendence from our very important, good neighbour to the South. Lumping Canada’s trade in with Mexico makes little sense, as our workers and democratic tax base basically the same as America’s except without your economies of scale. Multinational free movement of western fair jobs to third world countries where slave labor wages paid without balancing with tariffs have been the problem for all civilized democracies. Certainly the dogma that more international trade with less barriers is inherently good has been a corporate sponsored lie of both our business schools and economists.
    Nothern Counsin Bob

    • As former Canadian I can tell you that Canada is joined at the hip with your neighbour to the south. In fact, Canada tries so hard to be even more Yankee than Yankees: (1) hatred of Putin and Russia in Canada’s Presstitute Lamestream Media is off the charts, (2) pro-Israeli stand is to the right of Attila the Hun, etc.

      • tacoma

What you said is the policy of the current government. Some media columnists went along. But the country itself wants no part of it.

    • tacoma

NAFTA is an American idea, originated from corporate boardrooms. Before
NAFTA, there was only the Free Trade Agreement between US and Canada. FTA works so well
that after a few years Big Money in the US urged the government to
extend it to include Mexico. Because while FTA is liberalized trade
between two relatively similar economies, the US want to make more money
from the much lower wages of Mexico. Canada reluctantly went along with NAFTA, and never take advantage with trade with Mexico. Only the US did.

  • TheRoyal1

I don’t understand how the world hasn’t fully awaken to whats happening, nothing is getting better its just all getting worse, yet it seems as if everyone around us is oblivious to this fact….yes there are more and more people starting to see whats happening but its an immensely small number compared to the masses that still believe govts. around the world are here to help…

    • Ian

Most people are still glued to their boob-tube propaganda machines

  • DerpDerp

I find it funny, and very telling, that you did not mention the 7 free trade agreements that G.W. Bush signed, which have had equal, if not greater, impacts on jobs in the US.

Both political parties are guilty of selling out the US with free trade agreements. It’s pretty sad that you’re only focusing on one political party’s involvement.

Yes, I will continue calling you out Michael, whenever you resort to partisanship in your journalism.

  • Drud

The 1992 election, IMHO, was the last real chance we had to retake our federal government. We chose the party-line and we have paid the price already, and we have a long way to fall. It is a shame, in 1992, the Cold war was over and we had a real chance to worthy world leader, instead we chose to continue to mortgage our future and elect only party hacks.

  • Priszilla

it doesnt matter who’s president. after Clinton there was Bush who didn’t repeal NAFTA.

Deuteronomy 28:20 “The Lord will send on you a curse, confusing you and opposing you in everything you undertake until you are destroyed and quickly perish because of the evil of your deeds, in that you have forsaken me.”

It gets worse, :21 “The Lord will plague you with deadly diseases…”

  • Swiss America Expert

Politics: its all about the wishes of the economic high-society. The poor and middle men have no influence to the politics agenda.

  • grumpyhillbilly

Its our fault NAFTA didn’t work. The elites anticipated we would invent and create the next big things for them to invest in and for us to provide employment for the masses. I’m not even jesting about this. That was their thinking. Now they’ve dismissed the natives as bums, and fully anticipate the invaders to replicated the turn of the previous century.

I know the elite have been filled with grandiose plans from the likes of Rockefeller to Lenin. Master plans from the 19th century are in their minds their destiny and birth right. Yet its apparent they really have no clue. They’ve just killed their major purchasers of whatever they are selling with the demise of the middle class. The dumbing down of the masses might ensure their elite status for a century or so, but haven’t they noticed most invention has stalled? Yeah … sure…kill us off. However doesn’t that impact their bottom lines, while risking their own well being.

    • Ian

I’ve thought the same thing. But if you control 99.99% of the world, you can afford to loose a few peasants. Maybe they’re bored with us. Scared by our growing numbers. Put yourself in their shoes. LOL.

Don’t blame me—-I voted for Perot twice and Nadar once.

  • Eric Crennen

Why do you believe moving jobs to the lowest cost option is a bad thing? Are you going to have a problem when we move all the jobs to robots? Are you going to complain that the robots are doing all the work for us, aka they took are jobs?

I just do not see how losing tasks that no one wants to do can be considered a bad thing? O ya, it’s all about money

    • Peter Connor

Tasks that no one wants to do? No such thing. The reality is that first world living conditions and way of life are based on very restricted immigration and outsourcing. White Europeans created the modern high technology world, and you apparently want to destroy it.

    • Ian

Huh? Do you even work? Sounds like something someone would say who doesn’t work. Sarcasm? I don’t get it.

My temper gets the best of me when I see how our government is trying to destroy our country. I walk into Rite-Aid about every other day and they get to hear me go off on our leaders. I am surprise I don’t have high blood pressure from it.

        Believe me, I understand…

  • Joe Kleinkamp

I’d like to see a group of techs somewhere put together one of those weather service type computer models of the effects a Ross Perot presidency might have had on the US economy 21 years later.

    • Ross Perot never had the goal of beng President. Ross Perot’s only job was to slit the vote so Clinton could win, which he did with less than 50% of the vote. Perot was in the lead and dropped out of the race and then re-entered the race once the damage from his dropping out assured that he would only siphon enough votes to make sure Clinton got elected, and that Perot himself could not garner enough for election. Ross Perot was a fraud, another example of the stupidity of the American people. Perot was advocating for many powers for the POTUS that were way outside of the Constitution. No one cared then about that last fact. How is it working out for us now?

  • not me

Unfortunately, as you stated, most Americans are as uneducated about these issues as they were back in 1994 so they will continue to vote for those who are currently in office and the agenda will continue. If you try to educated them they act like your the idiot and they don’t want to hear it. They actually trust that the politicians will do the right thing?

Our country suffers from no long term thinking about the future. I dont see how anyone can figure that we can compete with the low wages and no regulations that other countrys have. We either have to tax and charge fee’s that make our products made here, competitive. Or only allow products made here to be sold here. Companies that raced off to China can just sell their product there. It would end up helping the people of those other countries as well. As a trucker i watched as every month i would hear about a company leaving. This went on for years. Sometimes it was several companies a month. All over the country. This whole free trade thing really had a high cost for our country.
