Why The Earthquake Near San Francisco Is Just The Start Of The Shaking In California

Tectonic Plates - WikipediaIf you thought that the earthquake that struck northern California on Sunday was something, just wait until you see what is coming in the years ahead.  As you will read about below, we live at a time when earthquake activity is dramatically increasing.  This is especially true of the “Ring of Fire” which runs roughly along the outer perimeter of the Pacific Ocean.  Approximately 81 percent of all big earthquakes occur along the Ring of Fire, and the entire west coast of the United States falls within the danger zone.  Over the past few years, we have seen huge earthquake after huge earthquake strike various areas along the Ring of Fire, but up until now the California coastline has mostly been spared.  However, there are indications that this may be about to change in a big way.

Early on Sunday, a 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck the heart of wine country.  It was the largest earthquake to hit northern California in 25 years.  More than 120 people were injured, scores of buildings were damaged and Governor Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency.

It is being projected that the economic loss from this earthquake will exceed a billion dollars.  Since the initial quake, there have been more than 60 aftershocks, and residents are very much hoping that the worst is over.  The following is how the damage caused by the earthquake was described by CNN

“Everything and everyone in Napa was affected by the quake. My house, along with everybody else’s, is a disaster. It looks like somebody broke in and ravaged the place, room by room.” said CNN iReporter Malissa Koven, who was awakened by the shaking at about 3:20 a.m.

“Anything and everything that could fall, did,” she said.

The damage in Napa is “fairly significant,” said Glenn Pomeroy, the CEO of the California Earthquake Authority, who surveyed the area Sunday afternoon.

“The downtown area is hardest hit, probably because of the age of construction down there,” Pomeroy said. In the residential areas, he is “seeing a lot of chimneys that’ve come crashing down.”

That sounds pretty bad, right?

But remember, this was only a 6.1 magnitude earthquake.  As Wikipedia explains, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake would be many times more powerful…

The Richter magnitude scale (also Richter scale) assigns a magnitude number to quantify the energy released by an earthquake. The Richter scale is a base-10 logarithmic scale, which defines magnitude as the logarithm of the ratio of the amplitude of the seismic waves to an arbitrary, minor amplitude.

As measured with a seismometer, an earthquake that registers 5.0 on the Richter scale has a shaking amplitude 10 times greater than that of an earthquake that registered 4.0, and thus corresponds to a release of energy 31.6 times greater than that released by the lesser earthquake.

And the earthquake that happened on Sunday would not even be worth comparing to an 8.0 or a 9.0 quake.  In fact, one study concluded that a 9.0 magnitude earthquake along the Cascadia fault could potentially produce a giant tsunami that would “wash away coastal towns”…

If a 9.0 earthquake were to strike along California’s sparsely populated North Coast, it would have a catastrophic ripple effect.

A giant tsunami created by the quake would wash away coastal towns, destroy U.S. 101 and cause $70 billion in damage over a large swath of the Pacific coast. More than 100 bridges would be lost, power lines toppled and coastal towns isolated. Residents would have as few as 15 minutes notice to flee to higher ground, and as many as 10,000 would perish.

Scientists last year published this grim scenario for a massive rupture along the Cascadia fault system, which runs 700 miles off shore from Northern California to Vancouver Island.

And when we think about “the Big One” hitting California, most of the time we think about southern California.  The most famous fault line in southern California is the San Andreas fault, but the truth is that many experts are far more concerned about the Puente Hills fault line.  According to one seismologist, that is the fault that would be most likely to “eat L.A.” and cause hundreds of billions of dollars in economic damage…

Video simulations of a rupture on the Puente Hills fault system show how energy from a quake could erupt and be funneled toward L.A.’s densest neighborhoods, with the strongest waves rippling to the west and south across the Los Angeles Basin.

According to estimates by the USGS and Southern California Earthquake Center, a massive quake on the Puente Hills fault could kill from 3,000 to 18,000 people and cause up to $250 billion in damage. Under this worst-case scenario, people in as many as three-quarters of a million households would be left homeless.

So don’t get too excited about what happened on Sunday.  Scientists assure us that it is only a matter of time before “the Big One” hits California.

In fact, the 6.1 magnitude earthquake that hit northern California on Sunday was not even the largest earthquake along the Ring of Fire this weekend.  According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 6.4 magnitude earthquake shook the area around Valparaiso, Chile on Saturday and a 6.9 magnitude earthquake struck Peru on Sunday.

As I mentioned above, we have moved into a time when seismic activity is steadily rising.  It has gotten to the point where even the mainstream media cannot ignore it anymore.  For example, just check out the following excerpt from a recent CBS News report…

The average rate of big earthquakes — those larger than magnitude 7 — has been 10 per year since 1979, the study reports. That rate rose to 12.5 per year starting in 1992, and then jumped to 16.7 per year starting in 2010 — a 65 percent increase compared to the rate since 1979. This increase accelerated in the first three months of 2014 to more than double the average since 1979, the researchers report.

Something is happening that scientists don’t understand, and that is a little scary.

As I wrote about the other day, earthquake activity seems to particularly be increasing in the United States.  While the west has been relatively quiet, the number of earthquakes in the central and eastern portions of the nation has quintupled over the past 30 years…

According to the USGS, the frequency of earthquakes in the central and eastern U.S. has quintupled, to an average of 100 a year during the 2011-2013 period, up from only 20 per year during the 30-year period to 2000.

Most of these quakes were minor, but research published by the USGS earlier this year demonstrated that a relatively minor magnitude 5.0 quake caused by wastewater injection after conventional oil drilling triggered a much bigger, 5.7 magnitude quake in Prague, Okla.

“We know the hazard has increased for small and moderate size earthquakes. We don’t know as well how much the hazard has increased for large earthquakes. Our suspicion is it has but we are working on understanding this,” said William Ellsworth, a scientist with the USGS.

What in the world could be causing this to happen?

Oklahoma, which used to rarely ever have significant earthquakes, has experienced over 2,300 earthquakes so far in 2014.

That is absolutely staggering.

And of course volcanic activity has been rising all over the planet as well.  In 2013, the number of eruptions around the globe set a new all-time high, and right now persistent rumbling under Iceland’s Bardarbunga volcano has much of Europe on alert

For more than a week the earth has been rumbling beneath Iceland’s looming Bardarbunga volcano. The almost continuous small earthquakes led the government to activate its National Crisis Coordination Centre this week and block off access to the largely uninhabited region around the Bardarbunga caldera.

Major airlines are making contingency plans for a potential eruption that could throw dust into the atmosphere and disrupt flight paths between North America and Europe.

Some scientists are saying that if that volcano erupts, it “could trigger Britain’s coldest winter ever“.

Clearly something is happening.

All over the world seismic activity is on the rise.

That means that the shaking in California (and in much of the rest of the world) may soon get a whole lot worse.

So what do you think is causing all of this?  Please share what you think by posting a comment below…

Under the heading of Ring of Fire. A few hours later today: 6.9 in Puquio, Ayacucho, Peru. A whole lot of shaking going on.

    • Hammerstrike

Gog and magog are having a party?

  • RLN

“For we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken” – the Bible says that God will “shake the earth” until no more can be shaken out of it that isn’t worth keeping. God is at work here. San Francisco is a wicked city and needs to repent. Besides that, as God closes this phase of his empire plan, this earth will be “de-created” as described in the Bible where the sun will stop shining and the stars will fall from the sky. He will wind it down, just as a person’s body winds down before its final death. He is doing away with this earth and creating another one for those who will yield to him and submit to his reign of the universe.

    • FortuneSeek3rz

All cities populated by humans are wicked in God’s eyes. All we like sheep have gone astray.

      • Hammerstrike

They bend the forest and crush the city, yet may not forest or city behold the hand that smites.

    • Annette Calkins

RLN, great post! i have always wondered when San Francisco would be hit with “stuff”. Was it Joplin, MO that almost got wiped off the map? I wondered why it wasn’t San Francisco. San Francisco is the home of a lot of things that are an abomination to God. They soooo need to reprent.

      • carl

Yes because San Francisco is the only city on the earth where it’s citizens commit heinous acts against other people….Seriously Annette you are very ignorant.

        • Padraigin Eagle

Any possibility, carl, that you could extract from Annette what’s in store, near to medium future at my age, for the Southern Cape Point Indian Ocean dwellers. Will a “Ra-Heyerdahl” raft be any use? I’m sure Sitchin provided some tsunami surfing boat building tips – I must go re-read my history of this rock, whilst removing San Francisco as “a location safe from bolt-hurling characters”.

          • haha! good one!!

          • Padraigin Eagle

Morning, evening and anything in-between Michael, where ere you might be on planet insanity; and may your footing be stable no matter the shaking of earthquakes awaking. And thank-you, from a grey day in Cape Town.

    • Carl

Just the simpleton way of explaining what they had no knowledge of when it came to earthquakes and other natural disasters. I don’t think people today realize just how ignorant people back then were.

Most had no knowledge and blamed bad things on God being angry and good things on him being pleased.

Others who were born smarter? Knew better and took advantage of the ignorant majority. Who even today are still ignorant and have no desire to learn anything.

If it wasn’t for mandatory government schooling, the number of idiots in our population would be exponential. Not to mention them giving birth to the future morons of America.

      • JustanOguy

As much as I don’t like it… very well stated.

People need to keep in mind that when all of these wise words of wisdom were created, that these same people thought the earth was flat.

        • True and the center of creation and that God was wholly concerned with a men’s behavior. What a centrist point of view

      • Richard

Carl, how about what God did to Sodom and Gomorrah? Read this True account and see what GOD did to them because of their Sin (wickedness). Be glad You did not have an address there then. Go to Genesis chapter 19 in God’s holy Word and read all about it. After all, it Is part of Man’s illustrious history upon earth.

  • Bill

Have you ever seen pictures of giant tunneling equipment used for many “secret underground systems”? Who knows what is real in today’s world when many people don’t believe what their own government tells them.

How many millions of years old are some of the recent discoveries? This old earth is really old and probably needs a “stretch” now and then!!!!

    • Hammerstrike

How about this, what if it governements discovered that it was possible to change the nature of reality itself by merging it with another one?

These governements might not necessarily be ones from this reality…

      • Bill

Do you think dc would collapse with enough tunnels dug beneath it?

        • Mike Smithy

          We can only hope.

    • piccadillybabe

Did you see the movie “2012” with John Cusak? The graphics in the movie are second to none with the culdara in Yellowstone totally blowing and then the rest of the continent as well.

      • callmecordelia1

Haha, yes. I saw that a couple of years ago (probably in 2012!). I think about that every time I hear news about rumblings in Yellowstone. I hope I can hop on a plane and get out just in the nick of time like they did. 🙂

It’s obvious to those with eyes to see.

Matthew 24:7 puts in plainly….For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and
there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

Also..Matthew 16:3 And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?

  • FortuneSeek3rz

I don’t really think a 9.0 is coming anytime soon. These fantastical scenarios of coastal towns be washed away just doesn’t happen that often.

    • Richard

Oh? Really? How often for you is often? In December of 2004 an earthquake and Tsunami wiped out cities in Indonesia killing estimated 250,000 people and in March 2011 in Japan cities were wiped out by a tsunami and killed 10’s of thousands of people which was only 5 years and 2 1/2 months after the Indo disaster. We are not quite 3 1/2 years from the Japanese disaster, so please don’t talk too loud will ya.

      • FortuneSeek3rz

I just sense a bit of fear mongering. The earthquake in 1989 was bad and it didn’t kill scores of people like this blog is suggesting the next one might. I think time will show that the “Big One” is always just around the corner.

        • Richard

Again. Look at the Big picture will ya and that would be the Pacific ring of fire and not just one occurrence in 1989 but rather the two Big ones in the past 9 years and months. Then look at the possibility of the Cascadia fault off the coast of Washington and what the scientists have said about that. If one looks at the recent past in the these areas and their known near term potential danger, then I do not think that is fear mongering but simply putting 2 and 2 together humanly speaking. Eh?

      • Orange Jean

However, the Bay of Bengel (general area around Indonesia) is well known for those and similar risks.

For example an estimated 300,000 people died in 1970 in that area during a storm surge from a cyclone. The fact that there are shallow seas in that area with high population on the coast means they are vulnerable, whether from storm surges or tsunami.

        • Richard

          And your point is what?

          • Orange Jean

That a lot of that activity is within the normal range. There are places that are dangerous to live in… and that one ought to consider carefully where to put down roots and try to avoid the more dangerous places if at all possible.

I do believe in God, but I also believe he’s the one who created the earth in such a way that the earth is dynamic … and that floods, earthquakes, tsunami, hurricanes, tornadoes, blizzards, volcanoes, wildfires, etc. occur and are all part of this creation.

If every time one of these events occurs is a “sign” that Jesus is about to return… he ought to have come back thousands of times by now.

Has there ever been a time in which there have NOT been … ” nations rising against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and … famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places?”

If so, I would certainly like to know when that was. Because I cannot for the life of me think of any time in the known history of mankind where those things have not been a problem somewhere.

          • Richard

Yes. In the garden of Eden. After the sin of Adam and Eve, God placed a curse upon this earth. Read about it in Genesis 3:14-19. Then because of man’s sin against God, his heart became utterly depraved the Bible says. Jesus said that out of the heart of man proceeds all types evil imaginations which in turn produce all forms of evil acts, which includes war. Jesus said in Mathew chapter 24 that wars and natural disasters would increase in intensity and frequency in the last few years before He returns to bring judgment upon the wicked and Peace upon the whole earth forever.

          • doubting thomas

The Garden of Eden “really?!?.” That is a story in the bible. You choose to believe it was real. Orange jean makes a good point, you’ve yet to give a real example of when war or natural disasters didn’t occur. Eden… Tell me, what of the other books that were chosen by man to be left out of the bible that we know of today. The bible was written by man, edited by man with greed in his heart and you my friend put to much trust in your fellow man! God is real but what we read today are not his words.

          • Richard

Yes. The Garden of Eden is a TRUE story in the Bible. Genesis is the first book in the Old Testament. Genesis means “origin” or “beginning”. In Genesis the first chapter God begins to give mankind the True story of how He made everything, including man. The Bible says He Spoke everything we see and know of into existence by His Word. Since Almighty God has such incredible power to Speak the universe and the earth and all things in the earth into being, He must begin His glorious message (story) to man at the beginning. The second reference I gave to orange jean in Mathew chapter 24 are the words spoken by the Son of God to His disciples, perhaps some 4,000 years or so after the reference I gave to her in Genesis chapter 3. Thomas, we cannot pick and choose what we like or what we want to believe from God’s word the Bible, because it is ALL the Word of God. Yes, the same God who spoke All things into existence. Thomas, please go to the last book of the Bible, Revelation and read the last 4 chapters beginning in chapter 19. Then you can find out how God’s story ends. May God bless you richly in your reading of His holy Word.

The Earth is being warmed from the inside-out, core warmed from 5000 to 6000, this is happening with other planets as well.

The barrier between this reality and one or several other realities are weakening and even breaking down in some spots.
Earth is falling into these holes and that results in holes in the ground and sometimes, there are things from the other side falling into our side as well.

      • Brendan D.

“The cosmos is not just what can be seen, there are other realities beside this one you live in…”

Really? There are other realities besides this one? Do you have proof of that? Do you have any evidence? Any, at all?

It’s silly to claim that other realities exist when no one has ever produced any evidence whatsoever for those alleged realities. By your logic, we might as well all believe in the Tooth Fairy, too, because there’s no evidence for her either.

Moreover, what makes you think that the planet is warming from the inside out? Can you point me to the peer-reviewed, scientific studies that provide the evidence for this, please?

  • Syrin

I have been following this seismic increase for the past several years, and cannot figure out what the cause could be. Very odd

  • durango

Are there any statistics to show that the frequency of earthquakes is increasing? Statistics seem to show the reverse.

  • horse777res

GODS JUDGEMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! “Do not be deceived, GOD is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he shall also reap.” Galatians 6:7. This country has pushed GOD out of everything.
We haven’t seen anything yet! “If you confess with your mouth the LORD JESUS and believe in your heart that GOD raised HIM from the dead you will be saved.” Romans 10:9

    • John Farley

Although the Bible says that wars, famines and earthquakes will increase during the end times it doesn’t say that God will cause them. 2,000 years ago the Son of God brought mercy and grace and NOT judgement. He came to save and not to judge or destroy.

God’s terrible judgments will indeed be poured out on mankind during the Great Tribulation but, until then, it is likely that the increase we are seeing in earthquake activity is caused by other reasons. It is possible, for example, that it is caused by the drying of the Earth’s crust. The Great Flood released unimaginable volumes of water from within the Earth and it has been getting steadily drier even since. Prior to the Great Flood the Earth’s crust was kept continuously moist which may have been God’s way of preventing earthquakes and deserts. The original Earth created by God was perfect but an event as cataclysmic as the Great Flood surely has lasting consequences?

When Jesus Christ came 2,000 years ago he brought forgiveness, mercy and love and he continues to reach out to the hearts of mankind. But he has never sought to get our attention through spectacular ‘judgments’ like tsunamis and earthquakes. It is man’s sin that invited God’s judgment in the Great Flood. An increase in earthquake activity during the latter days could well be the long-term consequence of a drying and unstable Earth’s crust.

      • J White

God’s judgement does not occur during the TribulationGreat Tribulation. Those times are Satan’s window to operate and to persecute Saints. God’s judgement doesn’t occur until the “Day of Wrath,” then He pours out His judgement- After the Tribulation.

        • GSOB

          I’m sorry…

The “Great Tribulation” has been fulfilled…. it was THE judgment… doing away with the old religious, ceremonial – sacrificial covenant, along with it’s temple… once and for all and …..

It was putting all that away and bringing in the NEW… which is the one without end…

There is no temple required to be rebuilt because believers are joined to the Lord by the Spirit and they are One.. yet two.

Regeneration is a work of the Holy Spirit. The Lord calls out His elect, … whom were predestined before the foundation of the world by the Father.

Preach to everyone because we don’t know who the elect are.

The body of Christ, the Church, is an organic, living, spiritual body also know as the ‘Bride’.

It’s not a building with a cross on it.

          It has no boundaries.

      • Mike Smithy

God works in mysterious ways. Feeble humans are not in a position to critique the means by which those events are manifested.

        • Jason

WOW! God sure as heck gets a pass on everything. If he doesn’t answer your prayer then it was either too selfish or he said no. if he answers your prayer it was just and great and he said yes.

These same feeble minds you speak of were given the capacity to build incredible things in our lifetime and imagine what will be created long after we are all gone.

The bible states if you have the faith of a mustard seed you can move mountains, yet I have never seen all the Christians in the US pray for child abuse to stop or any other evil perpetuated by man. If they all believed than according to the bible this should happen!

But wait god works in mysterious ways so he decides what he will let happen or not let happen, right?

It all just sounds like people trying to explain the unexplainable and rationalize the human suffering on this entire planet (not just the US we are not chosen for anything and the only reason we enjoy more than most third world countries is that our leaders are willing to do the most unimaginable and unjust evil to others to benefit their own).

          • Mike Smithy

I assume that you are a non-believer, so I won’t expect you to understand. Yes, God gets a pass and yes, sometimes bad things happen to people whom seem undeserving tragedy and hardship. But God allows things to happen for his reasons, whether or not we understand them. I believe it is a test of our faith and resolve. A classic example are the hardships that afflicted Job. Despite all of the anguish and suffering, he never stopped trusting in Gods master plan. “Believers should trust in the Lord, with all their heart and lean not upon their own understanding” Proverbs 3:5-6.

          • Jason

God was the one that caused Job’s suffering. To prove a point to Satan….That in itself should tell you that God has the same type of prideful nature that all humans have and since we are created in his image that makes perfect sense.

If a human being were to purposefully cause someone a whole bunch of suffering and calamity the same way that God did to Job to prove their loyalty we would be considered sick and twisted in nature. But because God does it, then it makes it OK.

And just for the record Job is a fable and an example it is not mean to be literal.

          • Mike Smithy

It’s easy to make the argument that Satan baited God into a twisted childish wager. However, let’s not lose sight of the larger context. I believe that God permitted Job’s suffering because he had other concerns other than the comfort of Job. On the surface, one could argue that God was motivated upon being challenged by Satan for self serving reasons. However, let’s not forget that when Satan was cast out of heaven, 1/3 of the hosts of heaven (Angels) were also cast out. Thus Satan was not the only spiritual being being unfaithful to God. All of the fallen angels were witnesses to the challenge so the contest was not so much about Job’s faithfulness, but about God’s authority.

It was a story meant to teach people that no matter what evil befalls you to keep believing and having faith in god. I can guarantee you not everyone’s story has such a happy ending as Job’s did. Not matter how faithful and unwavering they are.

Of course a normal person would have a normal reaction to the events that befell Job and would be perfectly reasonable to question and react with the “HUMAN EMOTION and FEELINGS” that god gave us…to try and make someone reach the point of mental instability just to prove a point seems childish and even like something a human who is fallible would do…certainly not god who has nothing to prove to anyone…least of all the devil whom he cast out of heaven.

          • Richard

Job is Not a fable. Satan is the one who came against Job and brought upon him all his pain and suffering. God permitted satan’s evil against Job but he had to get God’s permission first before he could do anything. The Bible says that in all Job’s suffering at satan’s hand yet job did not sin against God. But you have sinned against God by accusing Him of evil and you are on very shaky ground. May God continue to mercy unto your foolish soul.

          • Mondobeyondo

Absolutely right. The book of Job is a true story. And if it wasn’t for God’s protection, Satan would do the exact same thing to any one of us.

          • dave

Really? Do you really believe that? I mean really believe that? Ask the child who is being abused where god’s protection is. Ask a person who has no food or is homeless. Ask the people in Iraq who watched their families being slaughtered where god’s protection is. Or those supposed backwards people in third world countries who finally get a well in their village only to be forced by people with machetes and guns to leave and go somewhere else. Or the Native Americans who were given blankets infect with small pox by the US government. Where was god on the trail of tears? Where is the justice for those people? What about those who never receive justice?

There is just too many things that are not answerable and the excuse that we don’t know god’s ways is just a cop out.

I guess gods protection is only evident if you are a saved christian or at least say you are in the US and live in a nice house and never have anything really, truly terrible happen to you or someone you love.

This protection thing is a theory. Satan is not causing the evil in the world. People are. Don’t blame the devil, blame your fellow man when something bad happens.

Everything is appropriate in its own time.

But though God has planted eternity in the hearts of men, even so,….many cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.

Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God!

How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!

          • heartwing

Actually, God did not cause Job’s suffering (Job 1:6-12). He simply withdrew His protection from Job temporarily to prove to Satan and the “other angels” the loyalty and faithfulness that humans were capable of. It was an important lesson. But Satan “caused” Job’s torment. In the end, God returned His protection and rewarded Job for his suffering. It might help you to read scripture before you post an argument against it?

Climate change is a misnomer. We have been educated
so well that we cannot accept ideas from different sources.
Suffering is not because of our education or lack of it; it is
because we fail to change ourselves through the opportunities.
That God as Commander of the Universe, is masterminding every occurrence in the world now will not be accepted because we always needed proof for the existence of God!
He is providing the proof through His actions is not known
to us. This ignorance will wipe out the humanity as
God is omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient! We may
not know why police killed a teenager in Ferguson and
our understanding is based on different versions! But God
    knows exact the reason.
Why are we not still analyzing what Jesus Christ said?:
“The Kingdom of God is within You”! .Until we
understand this, world will experience calamities
    and catastrophes of unprecedented nature!

I know why. As does most everybody else.
It’s called reaping and sowing. Living by the sword, dying by the sword.
Since you took this opportunity to try and glorify a thug, let me add this,
We might never know why a 9 year old boy in Chicago was shot 2 times when he walked out his front door. The reason we won’t know is because, it was unjustified and the shooter was black.
      Now I will take your propaganda hand wringing and show you where Jesus comes into it;
They call good evil and evil good. The gov’t and media have just spent 2 weeks doing the above.
At swisher mike’s funeral a family friend eulogized that big mike was spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ right before being killed. I guess that must have been after he robbed and abused the shop owner and maybe before, or after he assaulted the cop?

Earthquakes happen all the time and will forever. Sooner or later there will be a big one and it will be nasty. I doubt I will ever see it. I was in an 8.0 in Hokkaido Japan in about 2004.
It shook like hell for about 5 minutes, I thought the apartment building was going to collapse. Then I had to go to work and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. The Japanese build for them so its no big deal there.

I suspect when the banking system collapses the damage will be far greater than a 9.0 quake.

      Excellent point.

    • Orange Jean

I agree with you totally… and what I did for my graduate thesis was study high fatality earthquakes. And Japan has some of the best seismic and geotechnical engineering in the world, because they know the risks and you are right they build for them.

The reason the Ring of Fire is called that is because they already know those places are at high risk of seismic activity, including volcanoes. The reason CA has the highest seismic risk in the Uniform Building code (as well as some places back East, BTW… due to New Madrid)… is because they already know that.

Chances are good that if you live in CA you are more likely to survive a large earthquake than if you live in some place where they don’t have building codes that take seismic risk into consideration. The two earthquakes I studied were in Italy (1980 Basilicata-Campania, magnitude between 6.5-6.8, almost 4,000 deaths) and Iran (1978, Tabas-e-Goshan, magnitude 7.7, over 20,000 deaths). The main reason people die in earthquakes is traumatic brain injury (about 97%, worldwide) when a building collapsed on them and hit them in the head. The main reason buildings collapse in an earthquake is poor construction with long duration (more than magnitude) of ground shaking.

Don’t worry. We shall have the choo-choo train.

Like in 1906, it won’t be the quake that knocks us out. It will be the fires.

  • freethedacks

I see a major works program now about to unfold. This will be the jobs program that CA needs. Think of all those newly arriving immigrants who can now be employed rebuilding the broken homes and businesses. And of course, Home Depot stock will surge as everyone scrambles for lumber and new toilets. Now if only we could have wild fires take care of Southern CA. One can only hope that with the drought, the entirety of LA and Hollywood will go up in flames. Imagine the rebuilding opportunity there! It’s the perfect opportunity to eliminate all that trashy 1970’s housing in the Valley and those gawdy mansions in Beverly Hills. Hollywood could do an extreme makeover of itself! Can’t wait
    for that episode…

  • DJohn1

If you have a child that is doing wrong, what do you do?
Well, if you follow the Bible God punishes them by killing them.
Jonah was sent to a very cruel people that loved to torture people. He didn’t want to go. So he made a run for it. He ended up doing God’s Work anyway. Those same evil people turned from their ways. A few generations later, they were not so lucky.
We have a lot of people that have fell into the trap of thinking we know better. It is not true. We don’t know better. If I have a child that does wrong, I attempt to make the correction a learning experience so that they do not do it again.
Well, we are those children where God is concerned. Now the question is, what is God going to do about his children that have turned the wrong direction? Kill them? Or correct them. That is the real question . . .
Right now, we as the human species have followed a lot of wrong paths. We have made a lot of mistakes.
These earthquakes may have nothing to do with what God has planned for us. Or it might be center stage for what is about to happen and nothing we do might be able to change that.
My experience is that there are things that can be changed. Others cannot be changed because they result in something happening that has to happen. That is fate.
Jesus emphasized that before he went to the Cross. Some people think that God went back all the way to Abraham and told him to sacrifice HIS son.
He obeyed God. God did not accept his son as a sacrifice.
Some things cannot be changed. The cross was one of those things.
This earthquake and geological changes that are happening now might be something we can or cannot change by our actions.
The only reason that God protects is because it is part of a long term multiple generation contract with the Jewish People that dates all the way back to Abraham.
We are not part of that contract. We are part of those that believe in his Son, Jesus Christ.

The Biblical references are interesting, but do not provide a physical reason why. Two things are obvious. Planet Earth is groaning and creaking, and our Solar System is heating up. Our Solar System is currently traversing a huge plasma cloud, which is adding extra energy to our system. Because the Earth’s magnetic field is weakening, holes are appearing, which allow extra electro-magnetic radiation into our atmosphere. Secondly, our Solar System is lining up with the centre of our Galaxy. Dr Paul Laviolette has published details of a galactic superwave, which could severely impact our Solar System any time now. We live in interesting times…

    • Richard

Biblical references are Always interesting, because it is the Word of Almighty God, who knows the end from the beginning. God is Not in the habit of telling His creation the physical dynamics in the reasons for the things He is going to bring about. God does tell us the spiritual and moral reasons for what He does. That is by far the Greater message to take away from all of these disastrous happenings.

Why is this new? Are we starving for something to report? California has always had risks of earthquakes. It’s part of life there.

  • Kim

I wonder if building heavy mega-cities on fault lines has anything to do with the increases in destructive earthquakes along said fault lines.

Of course this was prophesied, but just because it was prophesied doesn’t mean its fulfillment is manipulated. If God sees all things, including the future, earthquakes would be the natural consequence of man’s planning and building. And here we are, dealing with the destructive consequences of our actions.

I was just in Napa last June for a week. What a lovely place it is. What a shame.

    • Richard

When God tells in advance of future events (prophecy) because He knows the end from the beginning, He tells us the reason in regard to man’s spiritual and moral behavior and not our physical. Outward actions of man are first conceived in man’s naturally morally depraved mind. That depraved nature is what is at war with God and hates God and God has already judged – to death.

We recently researched the notion that the critical drought currently affecting the West Coast, and California in particular, may be partially responsible for the uptick in quake activity and severity.
With the rapidly-depleting water volume underground, the sensitive tectonic areas deeper down are being affected by the changing weight and pressure above. Or maybe it’s the pot growers stealing the water; -that- theory has been offered as well.

Jennifer Lawson PHD was published in Nexus magazine in 2003 talking explicitly about the coming increase in vulcanism and earthquakes. The sun’s activity is all electric.

There are claims that the piezoelectric effect also works in reverse. Induce a current in some rocks and they expand. Eric Dollard has a GREAT system for predicting earthquakes.

    • Ian

Yes, some form of induction is possible. Blackouts caused by inducing a current on existing lines (phone, cable, etc.) were also documented. We just forget because the sun is older than us.

  • Fox

Well what some seem to forget is that God gave us free will! For those that do not know free will is a gift that God gave all of us to choose between right and wrong! It’s built into all of us. So as far as the whole argument of bad things happen to good people so there can not be a God or that’s not a god I want to believe in, it’s through others choices that bad things happen. Many may suffer because of those choices but I believe that God gives us nothing we can not handle! Everything we go through in life is to prepare us for the next challenge we may face! By doing good in life and walking in the way of The Lord it becomes easier to do the right things and the reverse can be said the more we walk in the way of satan the easier it is to do the wrong things. But it’s all in our choices! It’s usually not the easiest thing to do but it’s what WE ALL have TO DO EVERYDAY! If we want to make this world better! Anyways I could go on and on. I don’t usually comment on these but I just felt I needed to. It’s off topic of the article but some of the other comments also are but it all revolves around each in some shape or form. May we all be blessed!

Recently the White House LIED again and said they were closing HAARP when in FACT they did NOT close HAARP according to local workers in Fairbanks and they DO NOT Plan to close it either.

IN FACT, it has also come out recently that there are today 7 HAARP facilities.

THE FEDERAL government MURDERED all the 28 scientists who designed HAARP. THEY were tasked to design a prototype that the FEDS said would NEVER be built. EVER

When the scientists learned that the Navy was actually going to build HAARP in Fairbanks they all LOST it.

So, you can understand why the scientists went off when they learned the FEDS were building this KILLER facility.
They tried to meet with Congress but were denied access, so when they went to the press NO ONE would print the story. SO then as is always the case the CABAL started KILLING them. Some tried to escape and one actually made it. ALL the rest died in ridiculously obvious ways. Remember Kerr-McGee in OKC??

SO one man got away and he returned to the country and came out of hiding to tell the sleeping nation that HAARP is a DEATH MACHINE and a weather control machine all designed to KILL people.

HE met with Jesse Ventura in a BARN in the middle of nowhere or so they thought and told Jesse exactly what HAARP is doing to the US and to the world, like causing Fukushima.

THE next day as filming was wrapping up, Jesse got a phone call and this uber healthy man all of a sudden fell over from a heart attack in front of his wife in their hotel room. Jesse actually got a phone call about his death while they were still filming.

I have followed the EVILS of our SHADOW gov. for four decades and this shocked even me. THEY killed him while they were filming. Clearly they had NEVER stopped going after him, although he had not talked since he left the country. THEY are sticking it to EVERYONE and don’t care who sees it. THIS is why they passed the truth in information act. THEY are so close to herding everyone into concentration camps that they just don’t care who knows.

THEY know that still 90% of the nation is asleep and have no clue they exist.

THE biggest FAIL in the US in my lifetime has been that 90% of the sleepers DID NOT WATCH Conspiracy Theory.

    THAT is a travesty.
IN 37 episodes Ventura PROVED the SHADOW government exists.

He did episodes that PROVED 9/11 was planned by our gov.

HE PROVED that the US is making bio warfare RX drugs and deadly viruses in the US and using them on US citizens.

HE PROVED that not only has the gov. built 800 FEMA concentration camps RED ZONES and filmed them: he also filmed a bunch of zombiefied kids and adults living in one.

HE filmed the idiot gov. employees at the front offices of the RED ZONE and filmed the US citizens living in them.

HE filmed the Double fences and double razor wire and electronic gates that only swing one way.

HE filmed AREA 51 for the people who STILL do not know aliens are all over our airways and also did another episode proving that our military has also re-engineered their space ships years ago and many of those are ours. THERE has been a lot of chatter lately that Obama is going to tell the world that aliens are real. I think the US is the only nation that DOES not know this, BUT because Obama is a pathological LIAR—-NO ONE will believe him.

Jesse filmed tens of thousands of plastic mass grave buckets in several different locations. HE filmed many, many episodes PROVING that our gov. is EVIL.

BUT, America did not watch it. A lot of the rest of the world watched it and continue to watch the episodes FREE on the internet. THE WHOLE rest of the world KNOW that America is OVER and that they DO NOT EVEN know it.

IT had really low ratings– BUT truTV continued it anyway, KNOWING people NEEDED to watch, so they hired Oliver Stone’s son to work with the investigative team.

AND THEN when they filmed the episode INSIDE the FEMA camp OBAMA got it BANNED and the only place it can be seen today is on INFOWARS under BANNED video.

Obama also got the show taken off the air and truTV wouldn’t talk about WHY.

ALSO, I am from Oklahoma and Micheal says my state rarely ever used to have earthquakes, but the truth is that these earthquakes just started in Oklahoma a few years ago. My family all still live there and on one day, the town my brother lives in had 27 in ONE day.

THIS is NOW happening because of the methane gas being formed under the entire Southeast corner of the whole US.

THIS methane gas is forming because of the intentional BP oil spill and the intentional use of a clean up product that causes methane gas to form all UNDER the southeast part of the nation. THE clean up was planned by Halliburton two weeks BEFORE the spill and they KNEW it would CAUSE earthquakes and CAUSE sink holes. Have you seen the hundreds of sink holes happening in this corner of the nation.

THE clean-up products DID NOT clean up all the oil and little thumb sized OIL BALLS are showing up all over the place in people, in people’s fish and in fish still in the ocean. THIS has spread to the fish all the way up the East coast to North Carolina. I live in South Carolina and for months I no longer eat fish.

AND recently we have a blood red sea movement that has been moving toward Florida for months and is hitting both sides of the nation. ALSO there are fish of all sizes dying all around the US coastlines. MILLIONS of fish are piling up all over the ocean on all sides of the US.

WE can keep asking questions about WHY all this is happening BUT until or unless we put the blame where it lies, the US is not going to be saved. LOTS of people are talking and NO ONE is DOING anything.

  • JustanOguy

And when the big one hits California…. construction companies and other services will make billions cleaning up the mess as life goes on.

Hardly the end of the world…

    • TMMao

Another broken window believer. If destruction is good for the economy, then why wait for the big one? Why not just blow it all up ourselves and make billions from the rebuilding?

  • Justin Case 4

I think we are seeing more earthqukes for two reasons. One, the earth is sagging from all the collective weight of the takers that inhabit California. As more takers jump the border and become part of the US we will see more quakes. 2nd, I consulted with Al Gore and he said it was because we are not following his advice on using carbon credits.

Because we refused to listen to Al Gore……. Manbearpig has been unleashed. Oh that we had listened to the Goracle when we had the chance……

The Light of God returns through the Orion Nebular!
“Ellen White and the Orion Stargate”

“December 16, 1848, the Lord gave me a view of the shaking of the powers of the heavens. I saw that when the Lord said “heaven,” in giving the signs recorded by Matthew, Mark, and Luke, He meant heaven, and when He said “earth,” He meant earth. The powers of heaven are the sun, moon, and stars. They rule in the heavens. The powers of earth are those that rule on the earth. The powers of heaven will be shaken at the voice of God. Then the sun, moon, and stars will be moved out of their places. They will not pass away, but be shaken by the voice of God.

Dark heavy clouds came up, and clashed against each other. The atmosphere parted and rolled back; then we could look up through the open space in Orion, whence came the voice of God. The holy city will come down through that open space. I saw that the powers of earth are now being shaken, and that events come in order. War, and rumors of war, sword, famine, and pestilence are first to shake the powers of earth, then the voice of God will shake the sun, moon, and stars, and this earth also. I saw that the shaking of the powers in Europe is not, as some teach, the shaking of the powers of heaven, but it is the shaking of the angry nations.” -Christian Experience and Teachings of Ellen G. White, page 111.

We notice from the immediate context that what she is describing is related to the events of “the powers of heaven” as foretold in the books of Matthew, Mark and Luke.

Has anyone heard of the coming pole shift that has start already, The coming Pole Shift is whats causing all this to happen. every scientist knows this. Please do your homework on it,

  • DerpDerp

Hey Michael, I have a challenge for you:

Write an article that is actually Positive and/or Conducive to improving the human condition and/or actually spells out to how to solve a problem.

  • No matter which catastrophe might occur on earth, someone will say it was God’s punishment. Whether it is a flood, fire or whatever. The religious can’t fathom that it could happen just because. I believe the truth is there is no Christian god or Satan and there is no soul. When you die you are just dead and gone. Humans created stories written in the Big Book because they live in fear of death so a pie in the sky story was invented to ease their anxiety and fear. Human nature has a great capacity to believe any magical story to escape reality. Why do people take illegal drugs and drink alcohol? To escape reality. The earth could revert back to a ball of molten lava like it was in the distant past and before we burn up someone is going to proclaim it is punishment from God because He loves us !

    • Richard

So, you were there in the distant past? – when the world was a ball of molten lava? Sounds like a human created story written in some small book, because you live in ignorance of death, so a fantasy of your liking was invented to counter the reality of an eternal hell and the torment being true. You won’t be there 3 seconds before you will know it is true and eternal. May God give you a holy fear and turn from your ignorance unto the living God, Jesus Christ.

      • You have bastardized the teachings of Jesus by integrating his teaching of love and forgiveness into dispensing fear and wraith from the old testament. Your statement, “May God give you holy fear…” sounds more like a philosophy of terrorism than Christianity.

You and many others speak about your beliefs as though they are reality and in so doing forget that the very foundation of Christianity is faith.

You have faith that the bible is true and I am not foolish enough to believe that my beliefs are not rooted in a “faith” also.

Whether or not you wish to accept it, we are all in the same place when it comes to proof. No one of us down here “knows” anything for certain beyond our faith.

You call my ideas human created but so is all of religion. Go back in history and see how religious thought changed over time. The old testament has a God with a totally different personality and decision making process than the God of the new testament.

God cannot be a loving God and send humans to eternal suffering for no other reason than they make mistakes. God is responsible for creating humans this way. Imperfect beings have no choice but to sin sooner or later. That is why Jesus died on the cross to forgive us of sins past, present and future. God knew He could not have it both ways. Either we are forgiven or Heaven becomes an empty place. That’s why God had no choice but to provide a pardon to keep all of those who made mistakes.from being damned for eternity with no chance of parole.

God had to fix this problem after the fact and that is why Jesus came into the picture. This is one of many conflicting concepts that exist in Christianity.

        • energizedmortal

Interesting, I feel like I am from creation if it judges me it is judging itself. What is worse, the human that participates in “evil” or the creator that allows the human and the “evil” to keep existing? I do not fear death, I like the tune of “no you don’t have to be in that body forever” phew okay good. The economy has a easy answer- world war.

        • Richard

No. You are the one who has Bastardized the sayings of Jesus. You are the one who said there is No Christian God or satan. Jesus said there is God and satan. You are the one who said there is No hell after death. Jesus said there Is a hell for All the ungodly. These are but two examples of your ignorant Blather regarding the Word of God. Go read the Bible fool.

          • The Bible is just a book. People write books not Gods. In fact, there was a great deal of politics that were involved in during the Council of Nicea. King James even gave God a male personification when he was ruler. So, politics played a big part in what was included or removed from the Bible. I know I cannot convince you but that was not the intention of my posts. You were preaching at the top of this post and not everyone believes like you, If there was a God and he wanted all of us to be God fearing then that is the way it would be but it is not. As you would say I am going to Hell for thinking on my own and not accepting faith. We shall see.

          • Richard

No. You will go there for Your Unbelief in God’s holy Word.

  • Thiagarajan TVS

God is shaking the earth since 2008 as far as I know,
and that is what we don’t understand now. God
will continue to accelerate His actions until humanity realizes
the purpose of birth on this earth. It does not matter
for God if there are seven billion people or one
    billion people.
The reason is that we don’t understand ourselves
“who we are ” as individuals! We are all individuals.
No two men are alike. Thumb impression alone is
not unique. Each one of us is unique in every way.
The very comments we read here are the reflection
    of our individuality.
Look around the world. We see floods all over the
world every day, and the economic damage is colossal.
What we are going to face will be unprecedented. It is
because we don’t understand till now who God. He
is demonstrating His powers relentlessly and ruthlessly.
We have forgotten Him as our Creator. In my first comment
I said that meditation is the only survival tool in the face
o impregnable challenges of God. God is nowhere but
in each one of us. We breathe, see, speak and perform every activity moment to moment because of God, the soul,
in us. When the soul leaves the body, we die.
Also an American astrologer, a lady said ” we don’t know
how the world will look like in 2023″ when Pluto leaves
Capricorn. Pluto entered Capricorn in 2008!. Someone said
here “what you sow so you reap” We are reaping for
all the sins we committed. Choice is ours to accept the
truth. Choice is not imposed. As a corollary, we need to watch with great concern and curiosity every occurrence
in the world. What happens in USA will impact globally.
What happens in Europe will also impact globally. The epicenter of collapse of global economy lies either in USA or in Europe! God is the commander of the Universe. he can
be known only through calamities and catastrophes. We can
dismiss what has been put forth here as frivolous not
to be taken cognizance of. But tile will tell where we are heading to!

  • Nicknakthetruthspeaker

You are all a bunch of bigots!
God doesn’t like bigots, he likes real men like me.

    • Richard

      Spoken like a true Bigot.

      • Bruce

Why don’t you go to hell!

        • Richard

Bruce you will beat him there.

  • Romans chapter 1

Jesus is coming back really soon so get your heart right with God! Jesus is the only way. You must confess your sins and accept him as your Lord and savior and you will be saved.

  • Thiagarajan TVS

Belief in God or in one`s soul is one`s choice as individuals.
No one is going to thrust upon us the belief but we need to remember that each one of us is controlled by our own soul.
Soul has every right to decide whether to remain with a person`s body or leave.
Today sifting and sorting take place and many people
are already leaving this earth. Deaths outnumber births .
Power of God is unknowable. He made Mississippi river
overflow in one year and emptied it the next year! Did we
    analyze how did this happen?
The choice is ours to meditate or not, and every choice we make ahs an outcome. We don’t have to go back to any sacred
texts or scriptures. All truths have been twisted to suit the
    audience then and now.
How can scientists say that God is not there? What
makes them breathe? What makes them think?
We are not only fooling ourselves but also are fooling
others with our lack of knowledge! When will we wake
up to know God? We will wake up to know Him only when
the size of global population will have shrunk by half, nay more!
It is futile to analyze the merits and demerits of actions
and achievements of two Presidents – Sr. and Jr Bush.
Nothing can be reversed now. Yet we need to remember and remind ourselves constantly that all actions
produce outcomes – good or bad! This is the Law of
Universe, whether we know it or not or believe it or
not! Every event will tell us where we are heading.
Every event like Ebola and California earthquake
will remain a powerful wake up call for the humanity as a
whole. If we don’t still grasp it, we will keep our fingers

Genesis says God made the sun to light the day (what was “day” before the sun?) and moon to light the night. The moon is only up half the time at night. If I sold you light bulbs that only worked half the time, would you buy more? Would you think I was great? Terrible engineering!

Change is the nature of our reality. Every second, part of a second, part of a part of a second etc. change is always happening. Our bodies are always changing as well. But are we our bodies or do we simply have a body? And if we are something ‘else’ other than a ‘body’ how should we conduct our ‘awareness’? Behave intelligently and generate compassion for ALL living beings because we are all in this together and suffering is a universal awful thing. The manufactured ego wants to be right and wants revenge and vindication. The aspiring enlightened mind wants to single pointedly think, act and speak compassionately every moment. Attachment to a dogma whether an atheistic or theistic one is a fearful crippling enterprise founded on hate and ego.

What is happening is, the normal course of planetary change is occurring. There has been a (short) lull for a few (hundred?) years, and now there will be some additional changes.

It is no big deal, except for the fact, that large populations of (stupid) humans now live near fault lines.

So, mainly what is happening is, the idiocy of poor planning for the future, and the demonstration of the short-term thinking of the majority of morons, has been exposed.

CONCLUSION :- ” Downward trend in world

Such areas of life as minerals and metals, foodcrops, energy

Collective wisdom in decision making, communication systems, aviation

We are getting into frivolous arguments without fathoming
our nature . We are not our body. That we are our body
is an illusion To cast off this illusion and set aside all
quotes from holy scriptures, God is unleashing all His tools
every day and all over the world. His tools are meant to
realize that each one of us has God in us to cling through
a process called meditation. Until we do this calamities
    and catastrophes will be unceasing!
Michael wrote numerous articles to awaken the readers
He speaks the truths. One truth is economic decay
we are sons of God , how can we define this? If God
as one Father has the power to create everyone of us
He too has the right to eliminate us from this world
through various tools He has at His disposal. I would say
    Ebola is one!
We should not confuse religion with God. Without God
no world; no Universe! We might argue
days together on every issue that Michael writes.
Meditation is not religion-oriented. It is something to
do with the mind. Meditation creates thoughtlessness
also labeled as no-mind, and it is the key to our
Being!. My daily write-up throws light on every issue
    of our life!

Get a grip people. There is no such thing as god. God is a fabrication of peoples imagination, people who are simple and scared, scared of living, scared of dying and scared of nothing after death.

I think it’s passing strange that no one so far in the article or this discussion (that I’ve seen) has mentioned the New Madrid fault line. The last time it moved was a series of quakes 1811/12 that caused the Mississippi river to run backwards and changed the course of the river. What is that… around 200+ years? Take a look at the population in and around that fault line. If it goes, the central US has a major problem, not to mention the transportation lines for the entire country run through there. Comments???
