Anger - Public DomainIf there is one thing that Americans can agree on these days, it is the fact that most of us don’t like the government.  CBS News has just released an article entitled “Americans hate the U.S. government more than ever“, and an average of recent surveys calculated by Real Clear Politics found that 63 percent of all Americans believe the country is heading in the wrong direction and only 28 percent of all Americans believe that the country is heading in the right direction.  In just a few days the first real ballots of the 2016 election will be cast in Iowa, and up to this point the big story of this cycle has been the rise of “outsider” candidates that many of the pundits had assumed would never have a legitimate chance.  Donald Trump, Ted Cruz and Bernie Sanders have all been beneficiaries of the overwhelming disgust that the American people feel regarding what has been going on in Washington.

And it isn’t just Barack Obama or members of Congress that Americans are disgusted with.  According to the CBS News article that I referenced above, our satisfaction with various federal agencies has fallen to an eight year low…

A handful of industries are those “love to hate” types of businesses, such as cable-television companies and Internet service providers.

The federal government has joined the ranks of the bottom-of-the-barrel industries, according to a new survey from the American Customer Satisfaction Index. Americans’ satisfaction level in dealing with federal agencies –everything from Treasury to Homeland Security — has fallen for a third consecutive year, reaching an eight-year low.

So if we are all so fed up with the way that things are running, it should be easy to fix right?

Unfortunately, things are not so simple.

In America today, we are more divided as a nation than ever.  If you ask 100 different people how we should fix this country, you are going to get 100 very different answers.  We no longer have a single shared set of values or principles that unites us, and therefore it is going to be nearly impossible for us to come together on specific solutions.

You would think that the principles enshrined in the U.S. Constitution should be able to unite us, but sadly those days are long gone.  In fact, the word “constitutionalist” has become almost synonymous with “terrorist” in our nation.  If you go around calling yourself a “constitutionalist” in America today, there is a good chance that you will be dismissed as a radical right-wing wacko that probably needs to be locked up.

The increasing division in our nation can be seen very clearly during this election season.  On the left, an admitted socialist is generating the most enthusiasm of any of the candidates.  Among many Democrats today, Hillary Clinton is simply “not liberal enough” and no longer represents their values.

On the other end of the spectrum, a lot of Republican voters are gravitating toward either Donald Trump or Ted Cruz.  Both of those candidates represent a complete break from how establishment Republicans have been doing things in recent years.

Now don’t get me wrong – I am certainly not suggesting that we need to meet in the middle.  My point is that there is absolutely no national consensus about what we should do.  On the far left, they want to take us into full-blown socialism.  Those that support Donald Trump or Ted Cruz want to take us in a more conservative direction.  But even among Republicans there are vast disagreements about how to fix this country.  Establishment Republicans greatly dislike both Trump and Cruz, and they are quite determined to do whatever it takes to keep either of them from getting the nomination.  The elite have grown very accustomed to anointing the nominee from each party every four years, and so the popularity of Trump and Cruz is making them quite uneasy this time around.  The following comes from the New York Times

The members of the party establishment are growing impatient as they watch Mr. Trump and Mr. Cruz dominate the field heading into the Iowa caucuses next Monday and the New Hampshire primary about a week later.

The party elders had hoped that one of their preferred candidates, such as Senator Marco Rubio of Florida, would be rising above the others by now and becoming a contender to rally around.

The global elite gathered in Davos, Switzerland are also greatly displeased with Trump.  Just check out some of the words that they are using to describe him

Unbelievable“, “embarrassing” even “dangerous” are some of the words the financial elite gathered at the World Economic Forum conference in the Swiss resort of Davos have been using to describe U.S. Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump.

Although some said they still expected his campaign to founder before his party picks its nominee for the November election many said it was no longer unthinkable that he could be the Republican candidate.

The truth is that the Republican Party represents somewhere less than half the population in the United States, and today it is at war with itself.  Supporters of Trump have a significantly different vision of the future than supporters of Cruz, and the establishment wing wants nothing to do with either candidate.

A lot of people seem to assume that since Trump is leading in the polls that he will almost certainly get the nomination.

That is not exactly a safe bet.

It is my contention that the establishment will pull out every trick in the book to keep either him or Cruz from getting the nomination.  And in order to lock up the nomination before the Republican convention, a candidate will need to have secured slightly more than 60 percent of all of the delegates during the caucuses and the primaries.

The following is an excerpt from one of my previous articles in which I discussed the difficult delegate math that the Republican candidates are facing this time around…

It is going to be much more difficult for Donald Trump to win the Republican nomination than most people think.  In order to win the nomination, a candidate must secure at least 1,237 of the 2,472 delegates that are up for grabs.  But not all of them will be won during the state-by-state series of caucuses and primaries that will take place during the first half of 2016.  Of the total of 2,472 Republican delegates, 437 of them are unpledged delegates – and 168 of those are members of the Republican National Committee.  And unless you have been hiding under a rock somewhere, you already know that the Republican National Committee is not a fan of Donald Trump.  In order to win the Republican nomination without any of the unpledged delegates, Trump would need to win 60.78 percent of the delegates that are up for grabs during the caucuses and primaries.  And considering that his poll support is hovering around 30 percent right now, that is a very tall order.

In the past, it was easier for a front-runner to pile up delegates in “winner take all” states, but for this election cycle the Republicans have changed quite a few things.  In 2016, all states that hold caucuses or primaries before March 15th must award their delegates proportionally.  So when Trump wins any of those early states, he won’t receive all of the delegates.  Instead, he will just get a portion of them based on the percentage of the vote that he received.

In 2016, more delegates will be allocated on a proportional basis by the Republicans than ever before, and with such a crowded field that makes it quite likely that no candidate will have secured enough delegates for the nomination by the time the Republican convention rolls around.

If no candidate has more than 60 percent of the delegates by the end of the process, then it is quite likely that we will see the first true “brokered convention” in decades.

If we do see a “brokered convention”, that would almost surely result in an establishment candidate coming away with the nomination.  That list of names would include Bush, Rubio, Christie and Kasich.

And if by some incredible miracle either Trump or Cruz does get the nomination, the elite will move heaven and earth to make sure that Hillary Clinton ends up in the White House.

For decades, it has seemed like nothing ever really changes no matter which political party is in power, and that is exactly how the elite like it.

Our two major political parties are really just two sides of the same coin, and they are both leading this nation right down the toilet.

      The constitution was based on “representative” (the citizens) government. When the “government” over reached or went away from what the citizens wanted and voted for it was up to ‘THE CITIZENS” to stop them. But today, no one understands that, and I imagine many, many young and middle age people today even pay attention to what is going on in this bloated government.

      It is very sad for our country. And although I am retired and knew how our America was in the 1950’s-1970’s and even the 80’s it was great. You had every chance for good jobs and a good life.             Anyone can be a ditch digger or taxi driver and that work is highly automatoble.
            Same with electrician, plumbing, etc. That work can be automated.

            But society has not found out how to automate chemical library screening and not many people are able to do chemical library screening so biochemistry pays alot.

            The reason the blue collar jobs don’t pay that much is because anyone can do them. Supply and demand.

We could be teaching Americans how to create and manage wealth. We could be teaching kids how to think long term. Classes on small business ownership in every high school would help. We need accounting and business math taught in our public schools. We need fundamental analysis taught. We need colleges to forget about general education and require students to earn a two-year degree in business before declaring their major. We need self-reliant wealth creators as citizens.             You said you had a tough upbringing. I had to work part time jobs to get money. People at my age did not get money or things from our parents, just because we wanted them or “everyone” else had them. My parents said “you are not everybody else”. This is one of the BIG problems today. Kids are entitled and don’t have to work or be “good” to get everything they want!

            They do not and will not learn to work hard and maybe sacrifice for a while to get what they want. Kids today are running their parents.

          I grew up in the era where they DID teach those things. The 60’s. I learned typing, business, shorthand, accounting, etc everything to be a secretary. Then I took other business classes in community collage.

          When I retired, I was in a wonderful position in a fortune 500 company. I worked hard to get there, with no collage degree.

          The colleges today teach Fine Arts, or liberal things…. nothing to make a career out of.

    American’s contempt for government can be attributed to one thing alone. The rise of the internet and thus our ability to monitor how our Congress votes on a daily basis. As our Government has come into full view Americans are in a state of shock at the revelations of corruption and most of all incensed that our politicians, no matter where they reside on the political spectrum are mainly focused upon preserving their own power and the garnering of more power and influence.
    As in the Roman Empire’s closing years power and money flows to Washington and it grows richer and more decedent as the countryside languishes.

    Try for a balanced view. Govt has its place. The Roman govt maintained stability and protected the empire. It worked for centuries. You might not like it but in that era it kept the lid on things until the empire allowed the Goths in as refugees. If it were not for govt, you would not have an interstate system. You would not have a standard for weights and measures. A gallon in SC is the same as a Gallon in HI. Were it not for govt only the rich could enjoy a beach otherwise the rich would own every yard of beach front. No govt there would be no GPS.       The debt limit is set at an aribtrary limit but budgets are passed and money is spent.
      Raising the debt limits only allows to pay for costs ALREADY INCURRED, not for future costs. Why else would you think the government shuts down and the stock market crashes. Opposing increasing the debt limit would send the US into default and crash the world economy due to decreased trust in the dollar.

      Even BUSH raised the debt limit.
      If you care about debt, why don’t you start hollering when budgets are drafted?

    I lost two years of work because Utah Adult Protective Services said I had to be a full-time caregiver. The local Workforce Services office, Utah HHS office, and DSPD still won’t provide assistance because they say the wife is the wrong kind of disabled. Even though I won the right to work again, we’re still in government-enforced poverty due to her disabilities. (And it’s got worse: now she has early stages of posttraumatic dementia).

    Dealing with government folks is the worst thing in the world. Bureaucrats and politicians… corrupt scum – the lot of ’em.

    If there’s one change we could make tot he system: anyone who runs for office or accepts a position with a government office or contractor must submit a hefty security deposit. This is to cover my losses from their stupid, evil, corrupt mistakes!!

    I know it won’t happen. So, I’m leaving in the Good Lord’s capable hands. I’ve gone as far with these guys as I can; The Lord will fight our battles and deal with them on behalf of my family and I.

Bernie Sanders who is a big government devout socialist is getting huge crowds, support, and donations for his campaign. He wants to increase social security payments and nationalize healthcare administration by changing Medicaid eligibility from 65 years and older to 18 years and older. Unlike private insurance agents, Medicaid only has a 2% operating overhead. Sander’s depression style rhetoric is very popular among voters:

There are many ‘Christians’ who behave opposite to what Jesus commanded. I am ashamed to say I have not followed Him consistently at times. But I keep on looking at what Jesus said and I am trying in my own pathetic way to follow Him by His grace. That means a bunch of things like loving people when they hate me, forgiving people even if they do wrong against me many times a day, taking care of the poor, the orphans and widows, and loving God with all my heart. I am sure you have heard of people who said they were for something but when the chips were down, they proved they were not? Or people presenting themselves as qualified doctors / policeman / veteran soldiers etc. but they were frauds. There are millions of people calling themselves followers of Christ and they are not. And great was its fall.” Regarding you point about God being like a human – as you said, we were made in His likeness. The difference is, He is Holy and knows everything. I sometimes have wondered why He was so angry and wrathful in the old testament. But then I started digging down into the Bible more and reading things in context. The people who experienced His wrath were not good people. Just a small example – many of the peoples in Canaan were evil to the core – they sacrificed children and promoted all kinds of evil.     It is a matter of subliminals. It isn’t about thought but gut feeling.
    People complain about things but they really do not want change.
    The classic example is what happened in the 1950s.
    Everyone complained about the width of the opening on a tomato ketchup bottle.
    So one company took a chance. They widened the lip of the bottle to make it easier to get the ketchup out.
    They went broke. No one would buy it. Yet they all complained about how difficult getting the ketchup out of the bottle was.
    Other companies seeing the result, changed the width 1/8th of an inch per year. So that no one noticed that the bottle lip was getting wider.
    Of course their motive was to use more tomato ketchup so you have to buy more.
    Everyone complains about those in charge. Second guessing is a national pass time.
    But when push comes to shove, they vote the same people in time after time.
    So what has actually changed here?
    Well, the public has gotten ripped off by the health insurance people big time. I have seen a secondary insurance deductable go from $600 to $6,000 in the last 7 years. And that is per person.
    I have seen a land grab that effects the price of beef. And this is through government agencies.
    I have seen the legislature sell us down the river as far as rules of the game over and over again. The bottom line being that our jobs are being taken over by cheap labor from overseas.
    We used to have protective tariffs to help keep that at bay. Not any more.
    I have seen the rules relaxed governing banks.
    I have seen savings become a joke because even if you do save money the government steals it in the end with medicare and medicaid once you become seriously ill.
    I have seen democrats go anti-labor.
    I have seen republicans vote for abortion.
    Yet they are all still in office for the most part.
    No wonder someone like Trump is way up there in the opposition polls to become President of this land.
    The subliminals are changing and with it the silent majority of people will determine who will and will not remain in office. It started last election. It takes 3 to 4 elections to clear out the Congress by the rules.
    But like the ketchup bottle, people do not want to change the way things are. They complain a lot, but I think they protest too much and change little.

      No truer words have ever been posted on this board, my friend. Once you go on medicaid all your assets will go toward paying the government back when you die. If you go into a nursing home, they will take everything you own. This leaves you with NO option to leave said nursing home, should you decide you do not want to live the rest of your life there.

      When I am old. I refuse to live one day longer than I have to. I have seen to many 70, 80 plus people being kept alive by the nursing homes, so that they can keep billing the government. I will refuse all intervention, medically at that point. I will not be a cash cow for these greedy pigs.

      What a shame most people value quantity of life rather than quality. Perhaps a matrix program we should all flee from.

I will say that I refuse to take part in the elective process by voting or otherwise voicing support (as well as opposition) to any candidate or party or proposed policy. In other words, I don’t take sides and I will not get involved. Last time I voted I voted for W Bush (the first time around) and it is one of my biggest regrets in life.

There is NO perfect president. Get that into your heads. With all of the problems in the USA people from around the world would gladly trade places with you. That final step is ‘true direct democracy’ or electronic voting on ALL major issues with the people also having the right to propose ideas for vote. The South Carolina primary was established as a firewall for the southern and western states heading into Super Tuesday and Donald Trump won.
