Desperately Poor Teens In America’s Impoverished Inner Cities Are Trading Sex For Food

Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Google+Share on LinkedInShare on StumbleUponEmail this to someone

sad-girl-public-domainWhen people get hungry enough, they will do just about anything for some food.  According to brand new research that was just released this week from Feeding America and the Urban Institute, there are millions of teenagers in America that live in “food insecure” households, and researchers were stunned to learn what some of these teens are willing to do to feed themselves.  Some resort to shoplifting, others deal drugs, and there were a surprising number of participants in the study that actually admitted to trading sex for food.  It wouldn’t be a shock to hear that these kinds of things are going on in an economically-depressed nation such as Venezuela, but this is the United States of America.  We are supposed to be the wealthiest nation on the entire planet.  Sadly, even while the stock market has been soaring in recent years, poverty in America has been on the rise.  For those on the low end of the economic scale, things have gone from bad to worse since the end of the last recession, and millions of children are deeply suffering as a result.

Let’s start with some of the hard numbers.  The following comes directly from the Urban Institute website

An estimated 6.8 million people ages 10 to 17 are food insecure, meaning they don’t have reliable access to enough affordable, nutritious food. Another 2.9 million are very food insecure, and roughly 4 million live in marginally food secure households, where the threat of running out of food is real.

Food insecurity takes a tremendous toll on teenagers. Poor nutrition—and the stress of hunger and poverty—can jeopardize their physical and mental health and development and their academic success. But despite the gravity and prevalence of teen food insecurity, we know very little about how these young people experience and cope with hunger.

The researchers already knew that lots of young people were hungry in America.  But what surprised them were the lengths that many of these youngsters said that they would go to in order to get food

Some of the youths said they or someone they know — mostly young men — have turned to shoplifting food, selling drugs or stealing items to sell.

The teens also reported knowing young women who have sold their bodies for food or had sex for money so they could buy food for their families.

Going to jail or failing a class in order to have to attend summer school were also some of the lengths teens went to.

Could you imagine your daughter or your granddaughter exchanging her body for food?

For most of us that is absolutely unthinkable, but the truth is that this is taking place on the streets of America every single day.

And this wasn’t just some blind random phone survey.  The researchers conducted personal interviews with focus groups, and what these kids were willing to admit doing was absolutely astounding.  Here is another excerpt directly out of the report

  • When faced with acute food insecurity, teens in all but two of the communities said that youth engage in criminal behavior, ranging from shoplifting food directly to selling drugs and stealing items to resell for cash. These behaviors were most common among young men in communities with the most limited job options.
  • Teens in all 10 communities and in 13 of the 20 focus groups talked about some youth selling sex for money to pay for food. These themes arose most strongly in high-poverty communities where teens also described sexually coercive environments. Sexual exploitation most commonly took the form of transactional dating relationships with older adults.
  • In a few communities, teens talked about going to jail or failing school (so they could attend summer classes and get school lunch) as viable strategies for ensuring regular meals.

Many of these young people understand that what they are doing is wrong.  Just consider what some of them told the researchers

A girl in Portland, Oregon told researchers: “It’s really like selling yourself. Like you’ll do whatever you need to do to get money or eat.”

Another comment from Portland: “You’re not even dating … they’ll be like … ‘I don’t really love him, but I’m going to do what I have to do.’”

Many prefer to rationalise what they are doing as dating of sorts. A boy in rural North Carolina said: “When you’re selling your body, it’s more in disguise. Like if I had sex with you, you have to buy me dinner tonight … that’s how girls deal with the struggle … That’s better than taking money because if they take money, they will be labeled a prostitute.”

When I read the information in this report, I was stunned.  Yes, I write about our economic decline and the rise in poverty all the time, but I didn’t know that things were this bad.

And the researchers were surprised by what they were hearing as well.  One of them said that the fact that girls are trading their bodies for food “was really shocking to me”, and she believes that things are “just getting worse over time”

“I’ve been doing research in low-income communities for a long time, and I’ve written extensively about the experiences of women in high poverty communities and the risk of sexual exploitation, but this was new,” said Susan Popkin, a senior fellow at the Urban Institute and lead author of the report, Impossible Choices.

“Even for me, who has been paying attention to this and has heard women tell their stories for a long time, the extent to which we were hearing about food being related to this vulnerability was new and shocking to me, and the level of desperation that it implies was really shocking to me. It’s a situation I think is just getting worse over time.”

But aren’t we being told that things are getting better?

Aren’t we being told that our leaders “fixed” the economy?

Of course the truth is that America is mired in a long-term economic decline that stretches back for decades.  With each passing year the middle class gets smaller as a percentage of the population, and poverty continues to grow.  Last year the middle class became a minority of the population for the first time ever, and a lot of formerly middle class Americans are now among those that aren’t sure that they are going to have enough food to eat this month.

Hunger in America is a major crisis and it is growing.  Just because you may live in a comfortable home in a wealthy neighborhood does not mean that this problem is not real.

Tonight there are millions of Americans that do not know where their next meal is going to come from, and they deserve our love and compassion.

  • robert

Maybe it is real, maybe not. These research types have been known to fudge figures time and again to make a point or to get another grant. Where I live, I do not see a problem except with more and more young people on drugs. Given the size of kids of all ages, I do not think hunger is the problem. No doubt there is somewhat of a problem, but I doubt the size stated.

    • aldownunder

It is still so much cheaper to eat crap food than healthy food which would answer why so many are overweight but probably malnourished

      • robert

Given a choice, people will eat “crap food” over nutritious food. Don’t kid yourself. Kids will eat french fries over serious vegetables.

As for the article, if I have learned anything in life, it is never believe what you read or hear without significant substantiation. That is especially true from government reports.

Where I reside, there are many services for anyone wanting to eat a balanced meal. Private and government entities provide.

Americans overreact and panic at everything. Frightened of everything. Run and hide. Check out on utube the difference in how the Ebola scare was handled by the news in Britain compared to the US. American journalism and truth telling is a joke.

        • aldownunder

Of course given a choice some people will eat fast food over nutritious food but it’s still a financial decision most of the time people in general aren’t stupid and realize they need a balanced diet, fresh food is a lot dearer than fast food not to mention the time required to prepare it and laziness and drugs are a major issue also as you stated

          • TSA_TheSexualAssault

This is wrong. Basic good food you cook at home is a fraction of the cost of prepared food. Wheat, rice, beans, 87 cent a pound whole chicken, in-season fruit/veg, dented-can discounted as-found, food bank-church all come together to give good nutrition. If it comes frozen, or heat-n-eat, you are wrong if struggling to get by. Drink water and stop diabetes while saving much money. People buy a $9 sandwich and whine about being broke. Whaaaaaa!

          • CaroleinLA

All true except that frozen is healthier than canned.

          • TSA_TheSexualAssault

Frozen food requires a freezer and electricity, otherwise frozen food is even more perishable than fresh food.
Home-canned-in-glass food has almost no problems (and is much-superior for people with sensitive diets), since breakage-resistance (a great attribute of metal cans) is a non-issue. The cost of jars is very low, since they get re-used year after year. Tattler lids save money over throw-away metal lids for home consumption (gift jars get one-use lids).

      • realist

People can purchase healthy foods if they try. Fresh in season fruits and vegetables, whole grain bread, legumes, etc are not that expensive . The problem is it takes effort and that would interfere with their time doing important things like Facebook, watching football and reality TV shows, etc. In my opinion, there is no good excuse for not eating properly. We as a society managed to eat balanced meals in the past before fast food and during some tough economic times, too.

      Interview people.
I think that you won’t like what you’ll find.

      • robert

I observe people and have for all my adult life which is well north of 60 years. I can drive through the poorest part of the city in which I live and just about every house will have a satellite dish. Many will have “dressed up” cars with expensive wheels. Families have disintegrated and children are not guided in life. Entire families are eated up by addictions. Want to find out what is happening? Interview police officers who see a lot and will tell you how bad things are. There is no moral foundation any more. We are a lawless and leaderless society.

        • Seen2013

You get more information through interviewing than just observing.

I definitely agree that we lack representation.

Selling sex for money / food has been around since the beginning of time. That doesn’t make it okay but it certainly doesn’t make it new news.

    • Mike Smithy

A few years ago, I saw a panhandler on the freeway offramp holding a sign that read “Will work for sex”. I had to laugh.

    • JC Teecher

You do Make a valid point, of which I had no idea about until I was in my late twenties and divorced.

I met my future wife at the tender age of 16, and we were together for over ten years. Since I had never really been in the so called, “dating scene” with multiple girls, I never knew what the real world was like.
Yes I dated my wife for five years, as she came from a very religious family, and we were held back from engaging fully until we were engaged.

Advance in time, to the early 80’s, ole JC is divorced, and thrown into the dating scene with strangers, and a new world and awakening, develops.
I had single guy friends that had never been married, and I got educated right quick on the “norm” of single women/girls, and what most expected.

The term “a&&, gas, or grass” was new to me, and sounded like something a selfish redneck biker would say to a chick that wanted to ride. Well, it did not take long until I realized that a majority of single women lived within the confines of that ideology, and it was backed by my single buddies dating advice.

They said I had to wine and dine-ie, if I wanted hiney.
I soon learned, that most single girls already were instilled with the mindset that they had no problem with putting out, if the guy had been spending out. Not necessarily handing over cash, but spending cash on drinks, food, and in a lot of cases, especially in the 80’s, drugs…aka party goods/favors.

Like I said, this was all new to me, and I searched out the girls that were not in the drug scene. I did not call an occasional toke off a left hand cigarette as being “in”, the drug scene.

I met an awesome looking woman at a dance hall/night club, and we danced and got acquainted. She lived in a neighboring town, and would not give out her number, but said I could find her at the bowling ally on certain nights as she was in a league. This threw up a “good girl” flag.
She looked so amazing, like a centerfold, and I was smitten, and made it a point to check her out..bowling, which was not my thing.
I had to go there twice, before she would give me her number, and I had to call her about 1/2 dozen times. before she would consider a date. Finally, she said she was free on Saturday night and I could come to her house. After I arrived, I saw a young teenage boy, about 13, and she said he was supposed to be at his Dad’s for the weekend, but an emergency had come up so….we get to go out for pizza and rent a movie.
No problem. After Pizza and the movie I am expecting a quick kiss and goodnight and the 30 minute drive back to my town.
As if she had been through this before, she told the kid it was time for bed and no getting back up. Soon we were kissing on the couch and she was shucking clothes, and covering up with a blanket on the couch, and said well, you getting undressed or what, as I hesitated, she said, “you did buy the pizza and pay for the movie”.

As the years went by and the list of dates added up, I began to see a pattern of ingrained ideology with most single women. Not all, but most, they willingly put out for food/drinks and fun.

I heard the same ole song, “you ain’t gonna find a decent girl at a bar/night club”.
Most of the girls/women I dated, actually went to church every Sunday, and some on Wednesday nights too. It made no difference, in most, whether they were church goers or not. They played by the same rules.

So, a lot of the trading sex for food thing, just comes as second nature to a lot of teenage girls, because they have seen it and been around it all their lives.

      • Lois Petersen

How terribly sad. I have two girls, 27 and 22 and neither are married and have full lives.
Their parents celebrated their 31st wedding anniversary this year. If that is what they have to deal with, I hope they just stay single. Actually maybe that is why they are single. Smart girls.

        • sister soldier

Good for them and (you) as a loving parent.

          • JC Teecher

Yes that is a very good, and rare thing these days.

        • JC Teecher

You have two young women offspring that evidently have been raised with high morals, which is a blessing for you and them.

Sadly, in the real world out there it is not that easy for single girls/women. Many don’t have the strong Christian moral compass in their lives, that is required for a positive outlook for a Christian man to court.

A lot of young girls are more influenced by peer pressure from friends and acquaintances, especially in college, than their parents/parent.
Yes it is sad how the liberal mindset has had so much influence into the lives of the young.

When a parent has turned away from God, and accepted a liberal/evil ideology as simple as accepting abortion as a positive thing, then curses will continue to follow those women/girls throughout their lives as long as they continue to see the taking of innocent lives in the womb, as a “woman’s right”.

That is the evil deception involved in the abortion argument. No where does God’s word say that a woman owns their body or has a right to do with it, and what is placed within it by God, as they so choose. God owns everything about us, except freewill to choose right from wrong.

I have to wonder if you are against abortion?

  • Tom

There really is a right and wrong way to do things. As I’ve become older, with more experience to reflect on, it becomes more “matter of fact”, that there is a right and wrong way to live. The Judaeo / Christian values that were practiced by a majority of society, are what have been lost in our modern times. Love, honesty, charity, honor, respect etc… These were the solid foundations we built upon personally and as a society. We somehow have to return to these values or we will perish as a nation. Or should I say we HAVE perished as a nation already ? Very sad and troubling times..

    • SnodtBlossom

17 So he told her everything. “No razor has ever been used on my head,” he said, “because I have been a Nazirite dedicated to God from my mother’s womb. If my head were shaved, my strength would leave me, and I would become as weak as any other man.”

18 When Delilah saw that he had told her everything, she sent word to the rulers of the Philistines, “Come back once more; he has told me everything.” So the rulers of the Philistines returned with the silver in their hands. 19 After putting him to sleep on her lap, she called for someone to shave off the seven braids of his hair, and so began to subdue him.[c] And his strength left him.

20 Then she called, “Samson, the Philistines are upon you!”

He awoke from his sleep and thought, “I’ll go out as before and shake myself free.” But he did not know that the Lord had left him.

21 Then the Philistines seized him, gouged out his eyes and took him down to Gaza.

    • Dont Mention The War

I am not religious (as you probably guessed from my previous posts here), but love, honesty, charity, honor, respect etc.. were instilled into me by my parents and my upbringing and I honor and respect those values to my core. Yes, I agree they are enshrined as classic Judeo/Christian values, but one doesn’t need religion to respect those [12 commandments!] as the core human values that should be the norm in a civilized society 🙂

    • Tom

Every religion has their own interpretation ( opinions ) of what “the right way” to live is. I think there are universal truths but because of the nature of “God” or the universe, and the limitations of human ability to comprehend.. it is beyond our ability to totally understand. BUT – Formal Religion has a place in society. The Traditions, The Community involvement etc. We can live with our internal understanding of “God’s Laws” but when society establishes laws, they be come society standards or common laws. I think formal religions establish “formal standards” what are the proper ways to live are for society.

      • Paul Benson

There is way to know what is right and wrong that far surpasses the restraints and errors of religious tradition. It is called the Word of God!

Read it, believe it, and act upon it as it reveals to you the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Don’t trust the modern (per)versions of the Bible. They have been seriously altered. For a deeper understanding of that issue please read this article: Can we Trust The Modern Bible Versions?

        Blessings to all who hunger for the truth;

5 When David was told about this, he sent messengers to meet the men, for they were greatly humiliated. The king said, “Stay at Jericho till your beards have grown, and then come back.”

6 When the Ammonites realized that they had become obnoxious to David, they hired twenty thousand Aramean foot soldiers from Beth Rehob and Zobah, as well as the king of Maakah with a thousand men, and also twelve thousand men from Tob.
7 On hearing this, David sent Joab out with the entire army of fighting men. 8 The Ammonites came out and drew up in battle formation at the entrance of their city gate, while the Arameans of Zobah and Rehob and the men of Tob and Maakah were by themselves in the open country.

13 Then Joab and the troops with him advanced to fight the Arameans, and they fled before him. 14 When the Ammonites realized that the Arameans were fleeing, they fled before Abishai and went inside the city. So Joab returned from fighting the Ammonites and came to Jerusalem.

15 After the Arameans saw that they had been routed by Israel, they regrouped. 16 Hadadezer had Arameans brought from beyond the Euphrates River; they went to Helam, with Shobak the commander of Hadadezer’s army leading them.

17 When David was told of this, he gathered all Israel, crossed the Jordan and went to Helam. The Arameans formed their battle lines to meet David and fought against him. 18 But they fled before Israel, and David killed seven hundred of their charioteers and forty thousand of their foot soldiers.[a] He also struck down Shobak the commander of their army, and he died there. 19 When all the kings who were vassals of Hadadezer saw that they had been routed by Israel, they made peace with the Israelites and became subject to them.

So the Arameans were afraid to help the Ammonites anymore.

      • SnodtBlossom

10 In the course of time, the king of the Ammonites died, and his son Hanun succeeded him as king. 2 David thought, “I will show kindness to Hanun son of Nahash, just as his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent a delegation to express his sympathy to Hanun concerning his father.

When David’s men came to the land of the Ammonites, 3 the Ammonite commanders said to Hanun their lord, “Do you think David is honoring your father by sending envoys to you to express sympathy? Hasn’t David sent them to you only to explore the city and spy it out and overthrow it?” 4 So Hanun seized David’s envoys, shaved off half of each man’s beard, cut off their garments at the buttocks, and sent them away.

I’m living month to month. We eat beans, rice and tortillas. I’ve decreased my meat intake and I’m off dairy. We eat fruits and drink water. Most of our food is crap and we shouldn’t be eating all the meats and dairy. This diet change is new to me, but knew that those foods are not good for a long time. People are also going crazy. I’ve needed to reflect on my own problems and deal with them. People are very sick mentally. Be careful, they act like your friend, get you entwined and then abuse you, devalue and discard. Very cold people out there and they don’t even see it or deal with their problems. Blame others mostly. Things are changing. God saved me and removed me from a bad situation. Not easy, painful. Not sleeping well and bewildered. Living one day at a time. That’s all we have-one day.

Samson took a young goat and went to visit his wife. He said, “I’m going to my wife’s room.” But her father would not let him go in.
2 “I was so sure you hated her,” he said, “that I gave her to your companion. Isn’t her younger sister more attractive? Take her instead.”

3 Samson said to them, “This time I have a right to get even with the Philistines; I will really harm them.”..He burned up the shocks and standing grain, together with the vineyards and olive groves.

6 When the Philistines asked, “Who did this?” they were told, “Samson, the Timnite’s son-in-law, because his wife was given to his companion.”

So the Philistines went up and burned her and her father to death. 7 Samson said to them, “Since you’ve acted like this, I swear that I won’t stop until I get my revenge on you.” 8 He attacked them viciously and slaughtered many of them. ..

9 The Philistines went up and camped in Judah, spreading out near Lehi. 10 The people of Judah asked, “Why have you come to fight us?”

“We have come to take Samson prisoner,” they answered, “to do to him as he did to us.”

    • jaxon64

Why do you post inflammatory and ignorant statements like that? Nothing gets solved with such vitriol–and ridiculous also as no rational person ever says that.
What IS said is: If you are receiving welfare benefits, you must submit to random, mandatory drug testing–if you have money for drugs, you can buy food.
In order to continue to receive the fruits of others generosity or labour, you must be ACTIVELY involved in job-training or some type of educational program–no open-ended welfare without the prospect of eventually becoming self sufficient.
If you have kids, they MUST attend schools regularly and maintain a level of measurable learning progression–otherwise you will not benefit from subsidies for raising a child that you are raising so poorly.
These are the kinds of things that get brought up for dialogue but are uniformly shut down by obstinate liberals who just throw breadcrumbs at the poor and unemployed and show up every 4 years to get votes and remind the impoverished how much they care–sickening.

      • df NJ

Look in the mirror! How many times have we heard the word “liberal” synonymous with everything that is wrong with the world. You can’t have anything more “inflammatory and ignorant” than they way Republicans use the word “liberal”.

Republicans don’t want to fight poverty. All Republicans want to do is have war and drop bombs on Arabs. Republican family values is to drop bombs on innocent women and children in Arab countries for profit.

The past 8 years, those bombs on Libya, Sudan, Yemen, Pakistan, Syria, Somalia etc–have not been “republican bombs”…the Korean war, Vietnamese war and other Asian children in neighboring countries were not dying in wars started by republicans.
PS–I’m not a republican, I just can’t help to respond to someone so entrenched in the right/left…us/them….repub/democrat…dynamic that they can’t be any more constructive with ideas than ” your team sucks worse !”

Call upon the name of the Lord and you shalt be saved…then repent. It’s your only avenue of escape. The devil is having a field day harvesting lost souls because people continue to believe the lie generated in Eden by the serpent that we are gods denying the true God. Just look at this country the past 50 years…the proof is in the pudding.

We just started cutting out animal protein altogether, at least for the foreseeable future. I am glad though that our pantry, freezer, and emergency stores are stocked up. One thought. Government assistance need not be in the form of cash on a card, it should be in calories per person. Fill bags with real food, not crap and issue to people who deserve/need rather than giving them money on a card that can be used for cigarettes and booze. Just sayin.

When I read this blog and others it becomes evident evry day that people are unhappy. They srike out and of course it the Government and authorities that take the most hits. One very common theme is most are American hating folks.
I guess Obama’s and the Globalist stategy is working very well.
What did people do in 1850 – very little government?
Hint: they help themselves and each other not the government

You talk about poverty. You talk about welfare. But what you will never hear out of Republican’s mouth is cost of living in this country. The problems with our country are not rocket science. The lobbyists force the politicians to pass laws creating cartels and monopolies in exchange for campaign financing. For 40 or 50 years now wage inflation has not kept up with real inflation. It doesn’t matter what you pay in taxes. What does matter is the purchasing power of your take home pay. The very last thing Republicans will ever do is pass a public policy into law that helps labor.

“Industry Insiders Estimate EpiPen Costs No More Than $30”

“Meanwhile, some patients are forced to pay a little over $600 out of pocket for a two-pack of the lifesaving medication. Mylan sparked outrage last month when it was revealed the company had hiked up costs for the drug by over 400 percent since it acquired the brand. At the same time, CEO Heather Bresch’s salary soared over 600 percent to nearly $19 million in 2015.”

You Christian Republicans family value types are all a bunch a holes. You just don’t care if people suffer. Well, eff you!

Please pray for our children. They are reaping a bitter harvest. We, the older generation, are directly responsible. Because we planted the seeds.

We have allowed Government to tell us what to do, when to do it how to do it. etc
When leaders treat there subjects like children – they will act like children. Its time for blood to be spilled to regenerate Freedom and liberty or we will rot from within with people like NJ

      • JC Teecher

I know I sound like a broken record to some here, but here goes again.
You have spoken truth about what “we the people” have allowed our gov to do.
Once we took God out of schools, the slide to destruction was well greased.
Then came the legalization of sacrificing live babies to Satan. When the majority of teenagers grow up without God./Bible in the classrooms, and liberal teachers praising or at least condoning abortion, then this is what we get.
The nearly complete demoralization of three to four generations. Now they accept a sodomite lifestyle as an option, instead of something that remains an abomination to our Creator.

The complete and utter destruction of the financial/economic foundations of USSAG is coming, because “we the people”, as a majority, have stepped completely away from the foundations of the solid foundation/rock, of Jesus Christ Saviour.

A huge flood is coming, and people had better pray for their refuge. Whether it be the tens of millions in the sinful worlds of LA/San Francisco metropolis, Chicago metropolis, Miami, or New York city. It will come. The rain/judgment, falls on the (sleeping) just, as well as the unjust.

6 Solomon answered, “You have shown great kindness to your servant, my father David, because he was faithful to you and righteous and upright in heart. You have continued this great kindness to him and have given him a son to sit on his throne this very day.

7 “Now, Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of my father David. But I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties. 8 Your servant is here among the people you have chosen, a great people, too numerous to count or number. 9 So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong.

These children need to go to the churches for aid.
If the churches fail to provide for them then the churches themselves will die. God will come back. It is simply a matter of time.
If you provide a fish, then you feed a person for a day.
If you teach them how to fish, then you provide food for them for a lifetime.
We need to teach them to earn a living.
Not easy when our legislatures have sold us down the river.
Not easy when Bill Clinton signed treaties with Mexico to steal our jobs. We now have his wife wanting the job.
It is time to take our nation away from the lawyers in Congress and make it a place to serve the people that vote.
It is time to take back our nation.
    Hopefully that will happen soon.

For most of us we have never been to the point of hunger where we were willing to lease our virtue/bodies for a morsel of meat. I have read sickening stories of children filling their stomachs with pieces of Styrofoam in sub Saharan Africa. I’ve watched documentaries where those same starving children are later spared the agony of a slow death when becoming food themselves for vultures on their long walk to the nearest food camp. I have even seen it first hand when I adopted 2 little girls and the younger of them who was barely two years old at the time who would by default go the garbage can to search for something to eat when she was hungry. I wept for her as I could not imagine what she had eaten before I took them in.

With all that I know I still cannot fathom a reason why this epidemic is becoming so prevalent in a land of “plenty” where we throw away more food than we eat. Really America? Or am I missing the bigger picture? It is a systemic condition of an already morally decayed “rigor mortis” culture.

Prostitution a.k.a. the “oldest profession” in the world and will most likely be one of the last as it is surely no hidden thing. In fact there are some who would argue it is a person’s “choice” such as the right to choose life and if that is how a person wants to make money then, oh well……. Ignorant of the fact that if you are not part of the solution then you are part of the problem. We are incorporated as a nation meaning we are part(s) of a whole. If something of this magnitude is acceptable then we have turned a dangerous moral corner as “self-proclaimed” upstanding citizens. It remains a degrading and common way for women/men and in between to earn a living. No matter how society justifies or excuses the matter prostitution is still an immoral act. Proverbs says, “For a prostitute is a deep pit and a wayward wife is a narrow well. Like a bandit she lies in wait, and multiplies the unfaithful among men.”

God forbids soliciting with prostitutes because He knows such involvement is detrimental to both genders. We reap WHAT we sow and we also reap WHERE we sow. Spending money for prostitution or any other immoral activity is a witness against the buyer as the proceeds continue to fuel this despicable and often times drug fueled lifestyle. What is the harvest for such a destructive investment of one’s time and wealth?” Also, for those who are claiming to be of the household of faith, “Or don’t you know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.”

Prostitution not only decimates marriages, morals, families, and lives, it also destroys the spirit & soul in a way that leads to spiritual death. God’s desire is for His children to be pure and to use our bodies as instruments for His use and glory for, “The body is not for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.”

No one should go hungry in this country. We throw away enough food to feed 10 million a day if not more. It is time to stop the nonsense and make sure the kids get fed. No discussion no ifs ans or butts just do it already.

  • C’est Moi

amazed by judgmental comments on here, how can we feed these kids so they don’t have to sell themselves? lord show us how
