2015 Was The Worst Year For The Stock Market Since 2008

Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Google+Share on LinkedInShare on StumbleUponEmail this to someone

New Year's Eve - Public DomainIt’s official – 2015 was a horrible year for stocks.  On the last day of the year, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down another 178 points, and overall it was the worst year for the Dow since 2008.  But of course the Dow was far from alone.  The S&P 500, the Russell 2000 and Dow Transports also all had their worst years since 2008.  Isn’t it funny how these things seem to happen every seven years?  But compared to other investments, stocks had a relatively “good” year.  In 2015, junk bonds, oil and industrial commodities all crashed hard – just like they all did just prior to the great stock market crash of 2008.  According to CNN, almost 70 percent of all investors lost money in 2015, and things are unfolding in textbook fashion for much more financial chaos in 2016.

Globally, over the past 12 months we have seen financial shaking unlike anything that we have experienced since the last great financial crisis.  During the month of August markets all over the world started to go haywire, and at one point approximately 11 trillion dollars of financial wealth had been wiped out globally according to author Jonathan Cahn.

Since that time, U.S. stocks rebounded quite a bit, but they still ended red for the year.  Other global markets were not nearly as fortunate.  Some major indexes finished 2015 down 20 percent or more, and European stocks just had their second worst December ever.

I honestly don’t understand the “nothing is happening” crowd.  The numbers clearly tell us that a global financial crisis began in 2015, and it threatens to accelerate greatly as we head into 2016.

Actually, there are a whole lot of people out there that would be truly thankful if “nothing” had happened over the past 12 months.  For example, there are five very unfortunate corporate CEOs that collectively lost 20 billion dollars in 2015…

Five CEOs of companies in the Russell 1000 index, including Nicholas Woodman of camera maker GoPro (GPRO), Sheldon Adelson of casino operator Las Vegas Sands (LVS) and even the famed investor Warren Buffett of Berkshire Hathaway (BRKA), lost more money on their companies’ shares than any other CEOs this year, according to a USA TODAY analysis of data from S&P Capital IQ.

These five CEOs were handed a whopping collective $20 billion loss on their company stock in 2015. Each and every one of these CEOs lost $1 billion or more – based on the average number of shares they’ve owned this year.

The biggest loser of the group was Warren Buffett.

He lost an astounding 7.8 billion dollars in 2015.

Do you think that he believes that “nothing happened” this past year?

And if “nothing happened”, then why are hedge funds “dropping like flies” right now?  The following comes from Zero Hedge

Two days, ago we noted that hedge funds are now dropping like flies in a year in which generating alpha has become virtually impossible for the majority of the vastly overpaid 2 and 20 “smart money” out there (and where levered beta is no longer the “sure thing” it used to be when the Fed was pumping trillions into stocks) when we reported that Seneca Capital, the $500 million multi-strat hedge fund belonging to Doug Hirsh (of Sohn Investment Conference fame), is shutting down.

And just within the last 24 hours, another very prominent hedge fund has collapsed.  SAB Capital, which once managed more than a billion dollars, is shutting down after huge losses this year.  Here is more from Zero Hedge

It turns out that despite our intention, the question was not rhetorical because just a few hours later Bloomberg answered when it reported that the latest hedge fund shutdown casualty was another iconic, long-term investor: Scott Bommer’s SAB Capital, which as of a year ago managed $1.1 billion, and which after 17 years of managing money and after dropping roughly 11% in the first eight month of 2015, has decided to return all outside client money, and converting the hedge fund into a family office (after all one has to preserve one’s offshore tax benefits).

Overall, 674 hedge funds shut down during the first nine months of this year, and the final number for 2015 will actually be far higher because the rate of closings has accelerated as we have approached the end of this calendar year.  When the final numbers come in, I would not be surprised to hear that 1,000 hedge funds had closed up shop in 2015.

Meanwhile, underlying economic conditions continue to deteriorate.

Corporate profits are steadily falling, the bond distress ratio just hit the highest level that we have seen since September 2009, and corporate debt defaults have risen to the highest level that we have seen since the last recession.

And this week we got a couple of new numbers that indicate that the U.S. economy is slowing down much faster than anticipated.

The first big surprise was the Dallas Fed’s general business activity index

The Dallas Fed’s general business activity index plunged to -20.1 in December from -4.9 in November. This was much worse than the -7.0 expected by economists.

Any reading below 0 signals contraction, and this index has been below 0 all year.

The next big surprise was the Chicago purchasing manager index

The Chicago purchasing manager index unexpectedly plunged to 42.9 in December, its lowest reading since July 2009.

Any reading below 50 signals a contraction in business activity.

This was down from 48.7 in November and much worse than the 50.0 expected by economists.

When the final numbers for the fourth quarter are in a few months from now, I believe that they will show that the U.S. economy officially entered recession territory at this time.

And the truth is that deep recessions have already started for some of the other biggest economies on the planet.  For example, I recently wrote about the deep troubles that Canada is now experiencing, and things have already gotten so bad in Brazil that Goldman Sachs is referring to that crisis as “an outright depression“.

Many people seem to assume that since I have a website called “The Economic Collapse Blog” that I must want everything to fall apart.  But that is not true at all.  I love my country, I enjoy my life, and I would be perfectly content to spend 2016 peacefully passing the time here in the mountains with my wonderful wife.  The longer things can stay somewhat “normal”, the better it is for all of us.

Unfortunately, for decades we have been making incredibly foolish decisions as a society, and the consequences of those decisions are now catching up with us in a major way.

Jonathan Cahn likes to say that “a great shaking is coming”, and I very much agree with him.

In fact, I think that it is going to be here a lot sooner than most people think.

So buckle up, because I believe that 2016 is going to be quite a wild ride.

  • Mondobeyondo

It will be interesting to see what the results of the Black Friday to Christmas buying spree are this year. If the numbers are low, it may show that people are starting to feel the pinch, and are cutting back on spending. Perhaps even the clueless among us are starting to catch on – things are NOT as good as the media likes to portray.

Will 2016 be a repeat of 2009? Maybe. Time will tell.

    • MIchael in Chicago

Christmas sales at brick and mortar stores will be up slightly. Online sales even more so.

      • RTL89

Indeed. But it’s important to remember that this isn’t “wealth” that was spent to purchase these gifts. It was credit cards…more debt.

        • James

          So what. Consumption is consumption

    • RICHARD

I will tell you what will be interesting to see is the unemployment results the first month of the year and all the store closings that are going to hit. It ought to get really exciting then.

    • merrileerj

or if the numbers are high, maybe people are digging a deeper debt hole, just like the heads of our country. Me me me, entitlement, etc etc.

      • James

US debt is not a big deal. If it was unmanageable, the fed would not be increasing interest rates.
Just massively cut defense, and anti-poverty programs, cut welfare, and spend couple billion more on NIH, NSF, NASA, IMLS, NEA, NEH, FDA, CPSC, USFWS, EPA and satisfy everyone.
Heck, the increased NIH and NSF funding would spur productivity

    • SunnyFlaSnotress

I’m still bringing back presents.. Bought boyfriend a watch and his old watch started working again. Bought boyfriend a “5-cup” coffee maker.. it should have been labeled “1 1/2 cup” maker. Saw the neiighbors before writing label tags..tags went back.

    • James

      Retail stocks went up!

  • Guest

“I honestly don’t understand the ‘nothing is happening’ crowd.”

I think it’s because things appear to be good. In my area, for example, the restaurants and retail stores are very busy, and a lot of these places have “Now Hiring” signs. Companies are setting up shop in this state and creating jobs, etc.

I am not part of the “nothing is happening” crowed. There is plenty of data out there that indicate that things are getting worse.

    • James

I think it’s because things appear to be good.

      Perception leads to reality

  • K

I figure, over half of the nothing is happening crowd, are trolls. Many of the rest, are just out of contact with reality. There was a time, that was considered a mental illness. Now reality is whatever you want it to be. Does that really work? No, but try to tell some people that. The patients have taken over the asylum.

    • RTL89

The problem is that the “nothing is happening” crowd has imbedded in their heads that the ones who cry that the sky is falling, are the ones who mentally ill. And society, along with the mainstream media, are the one sthat help to facilitate this. The topic of financial destruction and war has become a taboo topic, so if you even so much as graze the topic, people have the need to feel your forehead as if you’re sick. That is how indoctrinated we are. We are divisive amongst each other, while remaining subservient to our owners. This is exactly the position they want us to be in.

LOL No, it has not. You can see economic professors (nontenured) saying that they think there will be an economic crisis on NPR, APM, etc.

Be afraid, be very afraid.. Suit yourself.
Anyways, I did an interview w/a multi-branch structural field company owner the other day.
The structural fields generally feel market downturns rapidly.
Yes, he sized down considerably after the recession,he said he even sold and went into management instead, but sized the company up later.. Far less than the 2007 level, but he gave a positive report on the building industry which he believes went into a lot of recovery as of the beginning of last year.
I’m still ready to embrace the city, vs cowering to some rural retreat.

Go see the movie ” The Big Short ” while there grab a snickers .

I hate snickers….. prefer popcorn no extra butter.

    • FortuneSeek3rz

The “nothing is happening” crowd is about perspective and appreciation for the riches that are already in place. If some of you learned to appreciate what you had that previous generations could only dream about you’d be on the road to rehabilitation.

Cheering for a collapse that would potentially affect billions of people is not a particularly virtuous endeavor.

      • K

I know of no one cheering for the collapse. There is just those of us, who deal with reality. And then there is people like you.

        • FortuneSeek3rz

Hahaha that’s funny. The “dollar is dying” crowd has to admit the that dollar is one of the few strengthening currencies in the world. People like me care enough to have perspective.

      • J.L.W

I believe that when a stock crash happens it will lead to the arrest of the Illuminati and a golden age on earth. Leading to the ascension of humanity.

        • James

          a golden age on earth.

          A golden age of what?
Public health? Welcome to vaccines, antibiotics, and the NIH
Wealth? Welcome to the internet, uber, amazon mechanical turk, and shutterstock.
Happiness? Welcome to antidepressants and national parks

          • J.L.W

Release of technology such as anti gravity, free energy, healing, teleportation etc. Contact with positive extra terrestrial visitors.

Like I said, the arrest of the Illuminati and their neg ET overlords whom are prevented from leaving the planet.

          • James

Anti-gravity, Do you know what you are talking about?
Free energy- How can energy be free, you still have labor costs?
Healing- Antibiotics, sequencing virus genomes and enzymes, vaccines, and the NIH
Teleportation- You are on LSD. Anyway, self-driving cars and transport devices and lay off the scum of the earth truck drivers.

          • J.L.W

I know exactly what I am talking about and very precisely the science behind anti gravity.

            Which is cruelly incredibly simple!

Free energy is related to it. Although there are many forms.

Healing. Pyramids, DNA work with lasers. Know a bit but not specifics.

Teleportation… Who knows? Perhaps we can do that one anyway when our psychic abilities are unlocked!

          • ONE WHO KNOWS

Do YOU even KNOW who YOU really are? The REASON YOU were BORN?
Or the REASON for YOUR LIFE?

Don’t YOU even realize that YOUR LIFE serves a PURPOSE.

These are the REAL messages that Michael is really trying to convey. You just need to read between the lines.

          • James

The purpose of life is to have children and pass on your genes

          • James

The purpose of life is to pass on your genes and to make money

      • James

Cheering for a collapse that would potentially affect billions of people is not a particularly virtuous endeavor.

I could profit off the backs of the poor by buying pharm stocks that make medications that treat poor people diseases brought on by lack of sanitation, etc and the stock market crash and buying up their homes.

      • ONE WHO KNOWS

I don’t think/believe anyone is cheering per se. It’s about being HONEST with our current economic situation. I think that collapse and crash are harsh words to describe the American Economy. A better word would be: UNRAVELING.

        Look at the word E-CON-O-MY
        Sound the word: E-CON-O-ME

        • FortuneSeek3rz

A better example would by Syria and Venezuela. Those are collapsed economies. An 18 trillion dollar economy is neither one and is not likely to become that anytime soon.

      • Nikc

I’d like to know exactly what in your opinion present generations have that previous generations could have only dreamt about huh? What a ridiculous myopic view of the world and the US economy/society. Let’s see, I’m 36 years old and make twice as much as my grandfather did at his peak working years yet he retired at 55 from Monsanto with a full pension, health benefits, and a $55k retirement bonus. My grandmother was a stay at home wife. They put three children through 4 year colleges without a penny of debt. They traveled abroad frequently until their death.

So I ask you wtf is so great about current life in America? Muslims? illegals? Iphones? Flat screen tvs? McMansions financed with debt? $18 trillion national debt? college loans? Sky rocketing healthcare costs? You’re a fool if you think our current generations have it better than previous!

The facts show that our country is declining economically, socially, and morally and that people are beginning to realize our “recovery” was just a gimmick. However, I keep reading this blog and the comments and it’s as if many want to predict when the economic collapse will be. I heard it will collapse when health care law goes into effect, when QE ends, the shemitah last September, when fed cuts rates, and a possible Christmas terror attack. Truth is nobody knows when Chaos will come. Just know that when it does come that your prepared to care for you and your loved ones and please quit predicting.

We’re moving to an anything goes society. Do whatever you feel like and if someone questions it get a lawyer and cash in. You blur the lines of right and wrong, this allows the criminals to do whatever they want because they can justify it and no one will dare question it. It also gives the illusion of freedom that you really don’t have.

All you have to do to see the decline of this country is start watching tv episodes and movies from 50 years ago and work your way up to today’s movies and tv episodes. We are more violent, more sexual, more immodest, and more greedy. Granted there has always been sin in this country but it’s getting worse and worse. You may disagree and that sis fine but to me our moral decline is a fact and one has to be blind to argue against it. I cut cable off years ago because it bothered me so bad to see how immoral we have become. It’s as if what is right is wrong and what is wrong is now right. Music is another example of moral decline. When Elvis became popular people were upset because the way he moved his hips was too sexual and now we have Beyoncé and Jennifer Lopez along with all these other artist that are nothing more than high dollar singing strippers. Marriage hasn’t just been redefined by our crooked leaders but even among a man and a woman it’s nothing more than a piece of paper. We have declined morally in this country and I honestly believe God is beginning to remove his blessings from us.

        • Rosco

          Ashley,
Well said, I believe exactly the same here in the U.K, only we are a head of you in the moral decline – I believe the judgement has started with the islamic invasion of this country, of we don’t want a good God, we will get a harsh one, just like the Israelites in the days of old, this will only get worse as time goes on.
Everything has been turned upside down. I cannot remember a single divorce of my grandparents era, I am 47 years old. I am sure there were unhappy marriages, yet they worked through the their troubles – Not just throw in the towel.

        • df NJ

I think pre-aids sex was much more promiscuous.

Planned Parenthood also sells baby body parts……….

Our country is being Judged for 55 million babies murdered.

          • James

Again, PP gets reimbursed for their costs. Completely legal. The videos were highly edited

All state investigations into PP came out with nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Our country is being Judged for 55 million babies murdered.

By whom? Abortion is legal in the rest of the western world as well

          • Bill G Wilminton NC

The road to hell is wide wide wide the road to heaven is narrow.

PP is from the pits of hell and the NAZIS lived on the same street named RED HOT FLAME Boulevard.

            SHALOM

          • James

WTF? There is a difference between legal and moral.
Also, most of what PP does is moral if you consider contraception, doxycycline, Viread, STD treatment, anemia screenings, cancer screenings, sports physicals, std testing immoral

          • Bill G Wilminton NC

There is Our CREATORS WAY….. He gives us the MORAL code in The Bible and buried in our conscience. This code cannot be changed because it comes from outside our existence.

Then there is MANS Way…. he gives himself the LEGAL code. This code was based on The Bible and written by people of the Bible BUT now is like a butterfly in the wind. It goes this way then that way on a whim because it follows the desires of man who is more and more fallen..

PP is an organization with its headquarters on Red Hot Flame Boulevard in the Pits of Hell. How Satan must just squeal and squeak with glee when he hears your dissertation on the good that PP does. Then he ROARS like a lion……while he looks straight at you claiming your soul. Be afraid for your eternal soul that YOU are not in someway responsible for the demise of even ONE of these most helpless little babies. This life is but a vapor then we stand in front of our Creator God Yahwah and His Son Yeshua ( Jesus ).

        • Mark Sivad

No, the productions coming out of Hollywood does not speak for the morals of the rest of the nation, they live in their own bubble (lived in LA).

      • Mondobeyondo

Yes it is. This country is in FAR worse shape morally than it was even a couple of decades ago.

        • James

          Be careful with survivorship bias

        • James

Moral is very subjective. The bible used to be used to justify slavery and Jim Crow

    • James

      Socially?
The country is not declining in that aspect

  • Dow 25K in 2016.

Haha lol………real unemployment is about 18 %…….If you want NWO and Tyranny vote Hillary……God gives us the leader we deserve.

Everything is awesome with 100 million not in the workforce and 46 million on foodstamps.

      Your right awesomely horrible

      • James

Everything is awesome with 100 million not in the workforce and 46 million on foodstamps.

Again, 100 million people voluntary not in workforce because they are ft students or retired.
Most of the people on food stamps are children or disabled.

How can you come on a blog like this with such a lack of accurate info and then blend it with no comprehension of facts.

When MEN go to work they get paid and THEY SUPPORT their families who ARE the CHILDREN at home.

There are about 8 million LESS people NOW in the workforce than 08. GOT IT 8 million LESS. The gov takes people who go off unemployment OFF the books just like THEY fell in a hole or maybe disappeared or maybe relocated to MARS.

PLUS add to that number the millions of young people who have also come of WORK age since 08. That are NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT in college. YIKES

I do not think that you will comprehend this info.

For the people that are without money now, they will still be without money. For the people with money now they will still have money.

Lastly in one year the collapse everyone is waiting for, it will be right around the cornr.

Hold on Mr. Vacation, I think the holiday poolside lounging has softened something other than your midriff. If current trends continue we should see the following:
Decreased earnings per job along with fewer jobs, this results in declining household income.
A reduced ability to service household debt.
Investment in retirement accounts replaced by repayment of retirement account loans needed to pay higher interest debt, or to cover living expenses while treading water hoping things will improve.
Default on home, auto, credit card and retirement account loans.
At some point drastic action will be taken to care for those that have lost the ability to care for themselves, this will come at a cost to the people that were responsible or lucky and currently have money.
Enjoy your vacation and don’t forget to slather on the sunscreen because if you haven’t been to a hospital lately you’ll most likely leave with something scarier than you arrived with.

We might not want to forget to factor in all the new dependents of the social services.

      • Bill G Wilminton NC

Well lets see car loan books are now out to 7 years ( 84 months ) and 0 down with a few upfront fees one of which is a repo fee lol.

Houses are now back to 3% down loans.

Credit cards are maxed out………and middle class incomes are down.

100 million not in work force and 46 million on food stamps.

      Financial Collapse sorry to say………………..

      Hi Mr SanDiego,
Go see movie ” The Big Short ” all about 08 financial collapse. The real story ! …………AND it is all starting again.

      • XSANDIEGOCA

I read the book and will take your recommendation to see the movie. It is my understanding that at the height of that madness we were just hours away from a complete collapse.

        • Bill G Wilminton NC

Hours away and never really corrected, and no one went to jail and so here we are in 2016 and watching as auto loans now go out to 7 years and soon 8 years with 0 down but they do get some fees up front a disguised repo fee ha ha lol. True.

Houses are now at 3% down loans whats next 0 down no doc loans coming soon.

And now we have 1.4 trillion in student loans and the highest credit card debt ever. Just keep your helmet on lol !.

Lastly I mentioned in another post that I have two friends in NJ one is in his house 6 years without making a mortgage payment and another 3 years. But if you drove by these houses they LOOK fine and obviously occupied even with flowers planted lol. BUT even from their mouths I heard ” I wonder how many of my neighbors are in the same condition ” Still today ???? It is obvious that our banking system is insolvent…….so is our day of reckoning upon us ?

          Shalom

          • XSANDIEGOCA

I have developed a contrary view of the Election. I believe whoever is nominated by the GOP will win. The reason I think this will happen is because the Dems know the Economy is ready to blow and want the Economy to blow on the GOP’s watch and not Obama’s. There will be massive cleanup required and it will be very unpopular. SS and Medicare will get big Haircuts! The Fed will do whatever it has to do to keep the wheels from flying off till November. Then when Trump/Cruz is inaugurated, Yellen will suddenly be overtaken by the Old Tyme Religion and raise rates 5%!

          • Bill G Wilminton NC

Good call I have had the same thoughts…………….you are a thinker !

            Shalom

          • Bill G Wilminton NC

Update on the NJ house guy…….he is now on his 7th year and he said the bank pays his taxes $18,000 and his ins $5,000 per year.
This is about keeping the SHEEPLE in the dark as this is not good bank business. The bank could have dumped this house 7 years ago for whatever and saved oodles of dough but this is about KEEPING THE BANKING INSOLVENCY HIDDEN !
This is collusion between gov and banks………

          • XSANDIEGOCA

Keep me informed about this. This is huge.

          • Bill G Wilminton NC

When you drive down a street and see all the lovely houses……..just think no one knows how many houses are just props lol like a movie set.

If you did go to sleep at the last day of 2014 and did wake up today you would think that 2015 was a very boring and slow year if you did look at the stock marked. Just down a tiny little bit…

But just like any casino in Las Vegas, there are some who wins, and many who loose in the Stock marked Casino as well. Business as usual.

For me 2015 was a very good year. 2016 looks good as well.

    Happy new year.

    • Kat T

The one redeeming quality that I can see with Las Vegas is that usually everyone eventually quits and goes home, either with their winnings or cutting their losses. Kudos to those with the foresight to quit while they were ahead.

    • Hanna

agree. all this blog does is push out the collapse 6-12 months. ” a lot sooner than people think” been saying that for years. things will be identical in 1 year from now.
same crap different day with this blog

      Not down with dividends reinvested

You can always win in the stock market. It is not a casino.

2015 was a great year as I bought into the biotech crashes, and interest rates crashes, shorted energy, longed tech, and shorted 3x inverse index funds when the correction happened

      • alan

Hum, I never won. I put my money in, pulled the handle and got back less.

        • James

Eh, just try dollar-cost averaging a low-fee S&P 500 index fund with little tracking error, reinvest dividends, and buy heavily after dips

    • CASTIEL

Of course it was…..i think for more other millions of people wasnt so good…..when all collapses you will see that life is more than playing in a casino or invest in the stock market…..you will see that business will be replaced by something like survival…have a bad new year….sheep

      • ONE WHO KNOWS

I agree 1000% with your comment. Some people refuse to see TRUTH. That is until it smacks them right upside the head. Then those same folks will wonder how did ALL of this happen in the first place.

Real life IS real. Real LIFE IS not the Internet or the latest Hollywood Blockbuster movie. Real life does what real life is supposed to do.

Real life is not about JOBS, GAMBLING, STOCK MARKET, LATEST GADGET.

        REAL LIFE IS ABOUT SURVIVAL.

Anyone who can’t see that this SYSTEM is slowly unraveling is in denial. The SIGNS are everywhere.

Go see movie ” The Big Short ” all about the crash of 08 and see the corruption of the big banks. Real life real corruption and it is all happening again………………..

      • victor

I agree, one day survival down the road in a deeper sense.
Fortunately I’m working, but for those without a job now, it is survival. We’re just lucky gas prices are down, because everything else is up. and the volume has gotten less on some things, but the price has stayed the same way.
I know You are from France? Is it the same as the US? Far as smaller portions and same price? Meat has really went up, especially beef.
You might have to use that gun, if the price of frog legs go up!!!! Watch your back my friend!!!

      • Steve Hansen

Well, I’m not in the stock marked, or play the casino. I think I’m better prepared than most, and everybody that not have their head stuck in the sand can see that things don’t look so good with the economy worldwide. The whole thing is a bubble..! A fantasy economy.

But for me 2015 was a very good year, and things looks good for 2016 as well. Even with an economy as bad as it is, I don’t think everything is gonna fall apart or blows up! No judgement day…! But of course I might be wrong, and I’m pretty well prepared “just in case”!

I think 2016 is gonna be a jumpy ride, but business as usual.

        Happy new year!

Homosexual Activists Intimidate American Psychiatric Association into Removing Homosexuality from List of Disorders

Posted by Tony Listi on October 1, 2007

            BY RYAN SORBA

“It was never a medical decision—and that’s why I think the action came so fast…It was a political move.”

“That’s how far we’ve come in ten years. Now we even have the American Psychiatric Association running scared.”

            -Barbara Gittings, Same-gender sex activist

Let us, for a moment, rewind to the year1970. In this year, same-gender sex activists began a program of intimidation aimed at the American Psychiatric Association (APA). Activist Frank Kameny states the movement’s objective clearly, “I feel that the entire homophile movement…is going to stand or fall upon the question of whether or not homosexuality is a sickness, and upon our taking a firm stand on it…” (The Gay Crusaders, by Kay Tobin and Randy Wicker, p. 98)

In 1970, psychiatrists generally considered sexual desires toward members of one’s own gender to be disordered. Karoly Maria Kertbeny’s term, “homosexual” was the official descriptor for those inflicted by this mental-physical disassociative disorder. Psychiatry’s authoritative voice influenced public opinion, which at the time was negative toward same-gender sex. Of course, public sexual activity in parks and public restrooms contributed to societies negative views about the types of people that did such things, but “scientific opinion” was crucial in the public attitude.

Led by radicals like Frank Kameny, same-gender sex activists attacked many psychiatrists publicly, as Newsweek describes, “But even more than the government, it is the psychiatrists who have experienced the full rage of the homosexual activists. Over the past two years, gay-lib organizations have repeatedly disrupted medical meetings, and three months ago—in the movements most aggressive demonstration so far—a group of 30 militants broke into a meeting of the American Psychiatric Association in Washington, where they turned the staid proceedings into near chaos for twenty minutes. ‘We are here to denounce your authority to call us sick or mentally disordered,’ shouted the group’s leader, Dr. Franklin Kameny, while the 2,000 shocked psychiatrists looked on in disbelief. ‘For us, as homosexuals, your profession is the enemy incarnate. We demand that psychiatrists treat us as human beings, not as patients to be cured!’” (Newsweek, 8-23-71, p.47)

Ironically, at the very moment Franklin Kameny was claiming that same-gender sex was healthy, safe, and natural, a deadly virus was silently passing through communities of men all over the nation as a result of the promiscuous, unhealthy nature of the sex they were having. Only a decade later, thousands of men would be dead or dying, of AIDS.

On June 7, of the following year, 1971, Franklin Kameny wrote a letter to the Psychiatric News threatening the APA with not only more, but worse, disruptions. In this letter he states, “Our presence there was only the beginning of an increasingly intensive campaign by homosexuals to change the approach of psychiatry toward homosexuality or, failing that, to discredit psychiatry.” (The Gay Crusaders p. 130-131)

Same-gender sex activists continued to pressure the APA through 1973. A same-gender sex magazine, The Advocate, talks of “…what happened in 1973…referring to the widespread protests by the gay and lesbian community that led to the APA’s dropping homosexuality from the DSM.” (The Advocate, 12-28-93, p.40) As a result of the pressure, in the words of the prominent journalist and same-gender sex activists, Andrew Sullivan, in December of 1973 the APA, “…under intense political pressure…removed homosexuality from its official list of psychiatric disorders…” (Love Undetectable, book by Andrew Sullivan, 1998, p. 107) Under this “intense political pressure” the APA’s board of trustees finally caved in to the demands of same-gender sex activists. Another same-gender sex activist Mark Thompson writes, “Just before the first of the year, the American Psychiatric Association’s board of trustees declared we were no longer sick.” (The Long Road to Freedom, ed. by Mark Thompsan1994, p. 97)

After the vote by the American Psychiatric Associations Board of Trustees, some members of the APA, led by Dr. Charles Socarides called for a full vote by the APA’s 17,905 members. (The Long Road to Freedom, ed. by Mark Thompsan1994, p. 104)

On April 9, 1974, results of the vote were announced. Only 10,555 of the 17,905 APA members had voted in the election. The results were as follows,

Total APA members eligible to vote: 17,905

Number of APA members that actually voted: 10,555

Number of members that “Abstained”: 367

Number of “ No” votes-votes to keep “homosexuality” in the DSM as a mental disorder: 3,810

Number of “Yes” votes-votes to remove “homosexuality” from the DSM as a mental disorder: 5,854

It should be noted that the number of “Yes” (5,854) made up only 32.7 percent of the total membership of the APA. Only slightly less than one-third of the APA’s membership approved the change. It should be further noted that the “National Gay Task Force” was able to obtain APA members addresses and the “NGTF” (with-out identifying itself) and they sent creepy letters to all members urging them to vote to remove “homosexuality” from the DSM. Bruce Voeller, the head of the NGTF admits, “Our costly letter has perhaps made the difference.” (The Long Road to Freedom, ed. by Mark Thompsan1994, p. 105-106) Dishonesty and intimidation had won the day for the same-gender sex movement, and when activists publicly claim that this vote was a scientific decision; they hide three years of deceit and intimidation. In same-gender sex publications, however, activists are remarkably candid about the reality of the vote. For example, Kay Tobin Lahausen, co-author of The Gay Crusaders describes a variety of activism. “We did all sorts of protests…When the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations came out of some meeting and got in his big black limousine, I remember going crazy, rocking and beating on the limousine…He had never been besieged by a bunch of homosexuals before. But he had said something that got us going.” (Making History: The Struggle for Gay and Lesbian Equal Rights, 1945-1990: an Oral History by Eric Marcus p.216-217) (–Author Marcus has worked as an associate producer for “CBS This Morning” and “Good Morning America.”)

Lahausen’s lover, Barbara Gittings was a well known activist during this time as well. Gittings was the first head of the American Library Association Gay Task Force, although she was not a librarian her objective was to bring books advocating the same-gender sex movement to the attention of librarians in hopes of having them included in libraries. At one American Library Association meeting Gittings set up a same-gender kissing booth, to attract attention to the same-gender sex. Gittings tells about her activism against the APA. “Besides the ALA, I was also very involved, along with many other people, in efforts to get the American Psychiatric Association… to drop its listing of homosexuality as a mental illness. Psychiatrists were one of the three major groups that had their hands on us. They had a kind of control over our fate, in the eyes of the public, for a long time. “Religion and law were the other two groups that had their hands on us. So, besides being sick, we were sinful and criminal. But the sickness label infected everything that we said and made it difficult for us to gain any credibility for anything we said ourselves. The sickness issue was paramount.” (Making History: The Struggle for Gay and Lesbian Equal Rights, 1945-1990: an Oral History by Eric Marcus p.221)

Gittings took place in the disruptive attacks (“saps”) on the APA. She states, “I am not opposed to sap tactics. In fact, I spearheaded a sap at a psychiatrists meeting and I’m ready to do it again.” (The Gay Crusaders, p.234) Barbara Gittings recounts, “The 1970 convention in San Francisco was disrupted by a group of feminists and gay men who were enraged by what the psychiatrists were saying about them—and newspapers all around the country carried the story” (The Gay Crusaders, p.216). The “Gay” Militants, a book about that time, adds details, “On May 14, 1970 psychiatrists became the hunted. An invasion by the coalition of ‘gay’ and woman’s liberationists interrupted the national convention of the American Psychiatric Association in San Francisco to protest the reading of a paper by an Australian psychiatrists on the subject of ‘aversion therapy,’ a system of treatment which attempts to change gay orientation by keying unpleasant sensations (such as electric shocks) to homosexual stimuli. By the time the meeting was over, the feminists and their gay cohorts were in charge…and the doctors were heckling from the audience.’” (The Gay Militants, by Donn Teal, p.272-273)

Same-gender sex activists took over the podium and microphones. Then, “Konstantin Berlandt, of Berkeley GLF, paraded through the hall in bright red dress. Paper airplanes sailed down from the balcony. With two papers still unread, the chairman announced adjournment.” (Ibid., p.274) On June 23, 1970 same-gender sex activists disrupted yet another meeting, this time in Chicago, be repeatedly shouting down the main speakers discourse. (Ibid., 275) Then, in October at a meeting at the University of Southern California, same-gender sex activists shouted down a speaker and then took over the stage and the microphone. (Ibid., pp.276-280)

Kay Lahusen and Barbera Gittings know what really happened to the APA. In the book, Making History they are quite open about the reality.

Kay: This was always more of a political decision than a medical decision.

Barbara: It never was a medical decision—and that’s why I think the action came so fast. After all, it was only three years from the time that feminists and gays first sapped the APA at a behavior therapy session to the time that the Board of Trustees voted in 1973 to approve removing homosexuality from the list of mental disorders. It was a political move.” (Making History, p.224)

The APA was thoroughly intimidated. Later in the same year (1974), after the APA’s vote, Gittings was interviewed by a historian of the same-gender sex movement, Jonathan Ned Katz. Gittings brags, “That’s how far we’ve come in ten years. Now we even have the American Psychiatric Association running scared.” (Gay American History, by Jonathan Ned Katz, 1992, p.427. This interview was taped July 19, 1974). Anytime a scientific organization endorses same-gender sex, remember Gittings words: “They are running scared.” Same-gender sex activists have learned that intimidation works and they are never hesitant about using intimidation, psychological manipulation and deceit to reach the goals of their radical agenda.

Later in 1974, same-gender sex activists set their vicious sights on an individual member of the American Psychiatric Association, Dr. David Rueben, who was perhaps the best-known psychologist in the area of human sexuality at the time. Unbeknownst to Dr. Reuben, same-gender activists were lying in wait outside one of his lectures, and his physical safety was at risk. A same-gender sex activist and writer, Leigh Rutledge describes the attack in her book The Gay Decades, “June 16, A fist fight broke out at a Philadelphia playhouse when ten gay activists interrupt a lecture by Dr. David Rueben and denounce him as ‘a criminal’ for his views on male homosexuality. One policeman and a protestor are injured in the melee.” (The Gay Decades, by a man that engages in same-gender sex and writer, Leigh W. Rutledge, 1992, p.69) On that same page, this book tells us that, “The Centers for Disease Control estimate that gay or bisexual men account for as much as one-third of the syphilis cases in the U.S.”

Apparently, the American Psychological Association also got the message of intimidation, because they caved in to same-gender sex activists in 1975. In the book, The Long Road to Freedom the author writes, “January…The American Psychological Association and American Association for the Advancement of Science echoed the American Psychiatric Association in deeming homosexuality not an illness.” (The Long Road to Freedom, pp.115) The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) publishes the scientific journal Science, intimidation by same-gender sex activists was over for them. “Under pressure from gay scientific groups, Science magazine banned anti-gay bias in its staff hiring and advertisement.” (The Long Road to Freedom, pp.214)

Could the AAAS have been thinking about “pressure from gay scientific groups” when they published the poorly done studies by LeVay (“gay” brains) and Hamer (“gay” gene)? Two scientists who protested the LeVay study raise serious questions about AAAS, Science, and same-gender sex activists. “The appearance of LeVay’s paper highlights a serious issue in science public policy. Should such a study, based on a questionable design, with subjects drawn from a small, highly selected and non-representative sample, receive the kind of international attention and credibility that publication in a journal with the stature of Science lends?” (Science, 11-1-91, p.630)

If Dr. LeVay was not able to draw a proper sample and to fulfill other basic requirements for a scientific study, why did he conduct the study at all? If the study was not done for scientific reasons it must have been done for political reasons. Indeed, LeVay’s study was part of a public relations campaign, (the born “gay” hoax) to make the public believe that individuals were born “gay.” Science, a supposedly reputable publication, must have been intimidated to risk their own legitimacy by published such shoddy work. When unethical political movements dominate science, pushing science in unscientific directions, science suffers and leads society astray. One lesson from these facts is unmistakable: every time a scientific group repeats the same-gender sex movement’s propaganda, you may justifiably suspect that these groups are acting out of ignorance or intimidation.

Another lesson is that same-gender sex activists are so desperate to cover their deeply dysfunctional condition that they will stop at nothing to hide the facts from the public. Award-winning writer and same-gender sex activist Randy Shilts describes the denial among men that have sex with men, about their unhealthy lifestyles causing AIDS to be epidemic among them when he writes, “…the desperation of denial: how when something is so horrible you don’t want to believe it, you want to out it out of your mind and insist it isn’t true, and how you hate the person who says it is.” (And the Band Played On, 1988, p. 182) Desperate denial –this seems to be what drives the deceit, psychological manipulation, and intimidation of both scientific groups and the public.

          • James

            Let’s debunk this shall we.

APA defines a mental disorder as-“A mental disorder, also called a mental illness, psychological disorder or psychiatric disorder, is mental or behavioral pattern that causes either suffering or a poor ability to function in ordinary life”

Sometimes things are only on the DSM because they deviate away from the norm

            AKA Autism, AS and Picas

APA first put homosexuality in the DSM because of the red scare and some politican’s idea that homos are commies. We need an excuse to put them in mental institutions. The US threatened APA’s tax exempt status and APA did the dirty work.

I am sure that these gay activists did not assault every single APA member, nor was homophobia an uncommon idea in the 1970’s. APA could of said that homosexuality was a mental disorder and no one would have questioned it. People protesting decisions and trying to who professional societies happens all the time.

HIV is not a disease that is spread gay people. Hetero and homosexual people get HIV. Most HIV transmissions come from IV drug use, not inter course. Ana l s ex and inter course can spread HIV

Ahh yes, more proof that homosexuality is a mental disease!!!

Homosexuality: The Mental Illness That Went Away

by PHIL HICKEY on OCTOBER 8, 2011

According to the American Psychiatric Association, until 1974 homosexuality was a mental illness. Freud had alluded to homosexuality numerous times in his writings, and had concluded that paranoia and homosexuality were inseparable. Other psychiatrists wrote copiously on the subject, and homosexuality was “treated” on a wide basis. There was little or no suggestion within the psychiatric community that homosexuality might be conceptualized as anything other than a mental illness that needed to be treated. And, of course, homosexuality was listed as a mental illness in DSM-II. (The DSM – Diagnostic and Statistical Manual – is the APA’s standard classification of their so-called mental disorders, and is used by many mental health workers in the USA and other countries.)

Then in 1970 gay activists protested against the APA convention in San Francisco. These scenes were repeated in 1971, and as people came out of the “closet” and felt empowered politically and socially, the APA directorate became increasingly uncomfortable with their stance. In 1973 the APA’s nomenclature task force recommended that homosexuality be declared normal. The trustees were not prepared to go that far, but they did vote to remove homosexuality from the list of mental illnesses by a vote of 13 to 0, with 2 abstentions. This decision was confirmed by a vote of the APA membership, and homosexuality was no longer listed in the seventh edition of DSM-II, which was issued in 1974.

What’s noteworthy about this is that the removal of homosexuality from the list of mental illnesses was not triggered by some scientific breakthrough. There was no new fact or set of facts that stimulated this major change. Rather, it was the simple reality that gay people started to kick up a fuss. They gained a voice and began to make themselves heard. And the APA reacted with truly astonishing speed. And with good reason. They realized intuitively that a protracted battle would have drawn increasing attention to the spurious nature of their entire taxonomy. So they quickly “cut loose” the gay community and forestalled any radical scrutiny of the DSM system generally.

The APA claimed that they made the change because new research showed that most homosexual people were content with their sexual orientation, and that as a group, they appeared to be as well-adjusted as heterosexual people. I suggest, however, that these research findings were simply the APA’s face-saver. For centuries, perhaps millennia, homosexual people had clung to their sexual orientation despite the most severe persecution and vilification, including imprisonment and death. Wouldn’t this suggest that they were happy with their orientation? Do we need research to confirm this? And if we do, shouldn’t we also need research to confirm that heterosexual people are happy with their orientation? And if poor adjustment is critical to a diagnosis of mental illness, where was the evidence of this that justified making homosexuality a mental illness in the first place?

Also noteworthy is the fact that the vote of the membership was by no means unanimous. Only about 55% of the members who voted favored the change.

Of course, the APA put the best spin they could on these events. The fact is that they altered their taxonomy because of intense pressure from the gay community, but they claimed that the change was prompted by research findings.

So all the people who had this terrible “illness” were “cured” overnight – by a vote! I remember as a boy reading of the United Nations World Health Organization’s decision to eradicate smallpox. This was in 1967, and by 1977, after a truly staggering amount of work, the disease was a thing of the past. Why didn’t they just take a vote? Because smallpox is a real illness. The human problems listed in DSM are not. It’s that simple. You can say that geese are swans – but in reality they’re still geese.

The overall point being that the APA’s taxonomy is nothing more than self-serving nonsense. Real illnesses are not banished by voting or by fiat, but by valid science and hard work. There are no mental illnesses. Rather, there are people. We have problems; we have orientations; we have habits; we have perspectives. Sometimes we do well, other times we make a mess of things. We are complicated. Our feelings fluctuate with our circumstances, from the depths of despondency to the pinnacles of bliss. And perhaps, most of all, we are individuals. DSM’s facile and self-serving attempt to medicalize human problems is an institutionalized insult to human dignity. The homosexual community has managed to liberate themselves from psychiatric oppression. But there are millions of people worldwide who are still being damaged, stigmatized, and disempowered by this pernicious system to this day.

          • James

Again, because homosexuality does not cause large amounts of inteferece with one’s life, it is not a mental disorder.
Do you even read the DSM?

          • afchief

Any rational and logical mind knows that two men having sex together IS a mental disorder!!!

            A reprobate mind does not.

          • James

Sure, people were not homophobic in the 70’s and the APA did not receive backlash.

Good question and to be honest I never looked at the rating.

Ha ha maybe they put in a few risque scenes to get an R to keep Christians out lol.

A bit of F s used and a few stripper scenes with girls in the bathing suits from the beach and one brief glimpse of a topless dancer.

The scenes were not necessary for the movie as this movie was about corruption and greed on wall street not sex drugs and rock and roll lol.

The problem is the economic situation is not defined properly.
Now why a billionaire would lose so much money in the market?
He goes on his gut instinct more than any logical means of investing and it has worked successfully for a long time.
I am no billionaire, and likely will never be one.
But if one of them has a few million to spare I would probably go for it.
I think the problem is simple. People are broke.
When an entire class of people come tumbling down, then anything associated with the class of people will come tumbling down with it.
That includes real estate investing, stocks, credit card companies, taxes, bad EPA rules, etc.
It is all coming down simply because the foundation behind all of it is the working classes of America.
In the last year or 4, this class has been sold down the river big time.
So now we reap the harvest of this bad politics.
Throw into the mix a lying thief and con artist in charge willing to maniipulate the numbers in order to deceive the general public and you have the very definition of a collapsed currency in the making.
IF anyone is interested, South Korea went through this same thing in the 60s. Their currency actually devalued across the board. Meaning in dollars that a dollar became a dime. A dime became a cent.
If and when that happens here the result will be world wide chaos in the financial system and we will lose our position as a world currency.
That has already happened. Great Britain after World War II, went from a currency worth $5 a pound down to a low of a !.15 a pound. It eventually settled in at around a $1.89-2.10 a pound.
But that was many years later.
IF and WHEN are big questions. And that is where that billionaire messed up. The timing is thrown off by the government.
Basically IF and WHEN it happens we are all going to suffer huge changes in our lifestyles and in our income.

Just what hitler did to jews…

          • Bill G Wilminton NC

Trump said UNTIL we figure this out NO MORE MUSLIM IMMIGRATION.

Islam is not a religion but an Ideology with a plan to take over the world. That is what a JIHAD is……

Lastly all Muslims should be deported …all of them!. The mosques taken down and all head coverings outlawed. These monsters have declared war on us and people like you are oblivious. Move to Dearborn, Michigan and enjoy your Muslim neighbors.

Hitler’s plan was to exterminate The Jewish people. Trumps plan is to bring back America.

Ha ha maybe you are a Muslim

          • James

It’s ALREADY BEEN FIGURED. Asylum is very hard to get.

Islam is a religion and some make it out to be a Ideology. Same thing as Christianity. See IRS building bombing, Sikh temple bombing, and the religious beliefs of Oklahoma City bomber.

Jihad-Someone who spreads Islam. Sometimes it’s handing out Qu’rans sometimes it is firebombing places. Similar to Christanity. Sometimes it is handing out bibles, sometimes it is bombing IRS buildings and Sikh Temples.

Lastly all Muslims should be deported …all of them!. The mosques taken down and all head coverings outlawed. These monsters have declared war on us and people like you are oblivious. Move to Dearborn, Michigan and enjoy your Muslim neighbors. That is against the first amendment and very facist.

Hitler’s plan was to exterminate The Jewish people. Trumps plan is to bring back America.

Hitler also said he wanted to revitalize Germany and covered it with layers of bigotry. Same thing with Trump.

Trump still has yet to talk about what sections of NAFTA he dislikes, how to stimulate economic growth and investment, make government spending more efficient, reduce incarceration rates for non-violent offenders, how his tax policy would work, increase incomes.

It has mostly been, hate muslims, mexicans, and offend people and put it in the wrappings of “make america great again”

          • Bill G Wilminton NC

When a man says all people who have ENTERED the USA ILLEGALLY are going to be deported that is not HATE it is enforcing the laws and maintaining our borders.

He said all immigration from Muslim countries should be halted ” until we figure out what the heck is going on ” That is not hate that is intelligent response.

          • James

Donald Trump was talking about putting every muslim in a database.

As for the USA PATROIT ACT, Muslims have been part of the people that have lost their rights because of it. Secondly the USA PATRIOT ACT was passed by Bush and a republican congress.

          • Malcolm Reynolds

You must be under the impression that I’m a Republican. Democrats never had a soul and Republicans are eagerly selling theirs to the same devil you serve. • Bill G Wilminton NC

YUP and all those problems were never fixed and the required losses not taken by the banks and there are still houses across the country that are not paying their mortgages.
I have two friends in NJ one went six years not making his payments the other 3 years. Many houses have lawns cut and look nice but the homeowner is so far underwater that they walk around the house with aqualungs on. The banking and financial world is totally corrupt immoral and debased just like Mr Baum said………
These issues are still hanging over our heads and the financial blowout when it comes will make 29 look like a childs birthday party.
But just like in the movie the people dont catch on just like now.

          • victor

I heard also from a housing blog I used to read, people not paying their mortgages for one to two years free rent. Here you have friends, 6 years and 3.
Also I had read about these sub prime loans, and come to find out my wife’s daughters boyfriend had such a loan, where he told me, after losing his house, they used his 401k as income, also a coin collection, and even the value of some guns as income, I couldn’t believe it. But it came straight out of his mouth.

          • Bill G Wilminton NC

I believe that all their old credit/cons are almost totally back in use.

Look at autos/loans they are now making 84 months payment books lol, that is even worse than 07. And 0 down but they do get some upfront fees, one of these fees under a very nice sounding title is really nothing but a prepaid repo fee lol.
Housing 3 % down payments are back………..haha lol

          • Philosopher

The only way you can you use a 401k, a coin collection, and gun as “income” is to liquidate them. Which means selling them because you have to not because you want to.

          • victor

He didn’t, maybe that’s why they called some loans, liar loans. Wouldn’t have believed it if it didn’t come out of his mouth.
I know things are tighter now, but this was back than.
Go see the movie, it will give you a better insight into all the bs that went on.

          • GoldenGirl

It was unbelievable what was happening with the lenders. And borrowers thought it was so great! It was obvious that it was all a house of cards, but banks and everyone involved in the RE market were making so much money, (and borrowers thought they were getting such a good deal) they didn’t care. Sickening.

          • Bill G Wilminton NC

Victor interesting update spoke to the friend in NJ who has not paid mortgage on house in 6 years he is now in his 7th year………but it gets worse he also said that the bank pays his taxes $ 18,000 per year and Insurance $5,000 per year.
This is very obvious that the game is to keep these houses off the market and keep the insolvency HIDDEN.
So just how bad a financial shape are we really IN ……CATASTROPHIC !!.

I myself believe that the entire banking system is insolvent and all the creative ( insane ) financial tools are coming back. • James

Really? BLS publishes methodology along with the raw data sets.

Consumer spending is based on credit cards. Still spending.

Central banks only raise interest rates when economies are “good”
GDP is up and america is up

          • Bill G Wilminton NC

Central banking system is a corrupt cabal of bankers since its inception by the federal reserve act of 1913. Since that time the American dollar has lost 97 % of its value.

Credit card spending is spending money not made yet and is false.

The Central banking system is part of a system to enslave the world. And it is now enslaved.

The only thing up in America is DEBT.

          • James

Central banking system is a corrupt cabal of bankers since its inception by the federal reserve act of 1913. Since that time the American dollar has lost 97 % of its value. Stuff inflates. Big deal.

Credit card spending is spending money not made yet and is false. If it was not yet made up, banks would be collapsing left and right

The only thing up in America is DEBT. So is GDP

James I believe that you are going to have to waste someone else’s time. Your knowledge is so infantile and so opinionated but with no facts……is dial a prayer still available ?

I could say the same thing about you

A very simple question from a very simple mother. How can I best help my family prepare financially for this “great shaking”? I see a lot of analysis and speculation but no concrete recommendations. Thank you.

    • All hope is gone

You can’t prepare. You are doomed. Doomed I tell you.

check out Armstrong economics, good blog with good info. Martin Armstrong uses history as well to back up data.

Checked MA out. It is an interesting analysis, and even predictor, but I found it low on actual steps to help protect my family’s resources. Thank for the suggestion, though. I am enjoying the blog.

Well, mostly I suggest you do nothing.. or you will seem like one of this site’s weirdos.
But if you feel the pinch, be ready to go to a foodbank.
If the pinch gets real bad, try forming a commune of families.
If that doesn’t work, you might peddle your wares.. I’m sure you have some wares.

      • Bill G Wilminton NC

And maybe you could write poetry as you are such a prolific writer.

    > passing the time here in the mountains

Oil going to $20/barrel by the end of 2016. We could see gasoline below $150/gallon by the end of 2016. Big oil was draining a lot of money out of the world economy over the last 15 years. Huge oversupply plus Iran returns to selling on the World market in March.

    The Worst Year….
When I think of the Stock Market, I automatically think of Banks, well 5 Banks. Are we supposed to send them a card to the Banks, We are sorry for your Loss !, because I forgot.

Banks never lose, even when lose they win, they have nothing to lose, because what they lost never existed in first place.
Will this year be the year of reckoning, or will they fix a debt problem by

creating yet more debt out of thin air.

    • Bill G Wilminton NC

Go see movie ” The Big Short ” this movie will answer some of your questions.

  • J.L.W

Are the hedge funds collapsing because the lack of a stock crash means there is no role for an entity that ‘hedges’ against losses? Ironic huh?

    • Bill G Wilminton NC

Go see movie ” The Big Short ” covers the 08 collapse and the corruption will flatten you. All to be repeated soon as nothing was fixed and NO ONE went to jail.

  • J.L.W

    Excerpts from my blog:

    Morning:

666 seems to appear in the market (DOW) when it is clearly going to go down and shifts. Or when it is going up for no reason.

Number play today, (significant to me):

    DJI: -117.11 (-0.66%)
    DAX: -117.13 (-1.08%)

0.66 is one number off 666 male form of the devil. (US imperialist masculine).
1.08 is one off 1080, female form of the devil. (EU consuming mother feminine).

So, I wonder, from this funky number play, if the ‘devil’ is starting to lose the wheel, and if we will see less successful rigging in the markets. Good timing with Asian Bank soon to officially open.

    Next day:

From yesterdays market activity this did happen.

USDJPY ramp failed. WTI crude got from about -100 to -18 then failed. I didn’t follow any VIX rigging. But possibly they gave up after that.

DOW ended -178. The target was clearly S&P 2058 that miserably failed as well.

Like ZH says, it means nothing still. Never predict is the best way to go in these matters. Or at least, only predict when you actually know something.

But the end of the year. 4 – 22nd January should be very interesting!

To me in relation to an astrology system. 22 January is the new year. I have found events often agree with this date.

    • James

I love how you play with numbers.

  • Mark Sivad

Like most people I believe they do not want to see a crash, but know things are off center and need to be corrected. Perhaps rebuilt with a more realistic and sustainable economy (not bubble to economic bubble).

  • Forget your troubles, come on get happy
You better chase all your cares away
Shout Hallelujah, come on get happy
Get ready for the judgment day
The sun is shinin’, come on get happy
The Lord is waitin’ to take your hand
Shout Hallelujah, come on get happy
We’re going to the promise land
    We’re headin’ across the river
To wash your sins away in the tide
It’s all so peaceful on the other side
Forget your troubles, come on get happy
You better chase all your cares away
Shout Hallelujah, come on get happy
Get ready for the judgment day

      Here’s a little song I wrote
You might want to sing it note for note
      Don’t worry, be happy
In every life we have some trouble
But when you worry, you make it double
      Don’t worry, be happy
      Don’t worry, be happy now
      Ooh-ooh-hoo-hoo-ooh hoo-hoo-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
      Don’t worry
      Woo-ooh-woo-ooh-woo-ooh-ooh
      Be happy
      Woo-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
      Don’t worry, be happy
      Ooh-ooh-hoo-hoo-ooh hoo-hoo-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
      Don’t worry
      Woo-ooh-woo-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
      Be happy
      Woo-ooh-woo-ooh-ooh
      Don’t worry, be happy
Ain’t got no place to lay your head
Somebody came and took your bed
      Don’t worry, be happy
The landlord say your rent is late
      He may have to litigate
      Don’t worry (Ha-ha ha-ha ha-ha)
Be happy (Look at me, I’m happy)

Hello world, here’s a song that we’re singin’
      Come on, get happy
A whole lotta lovin’ is what we’ll be bringin’
      We’ll make you happy

We had a dream we’d go travelin’ together
And spread a little lovin’ if we’ll keep movin’ on
Somethin’ always happens whenever we’re together
We get a happy feelin’ when we’re singin’ a song

Travelin’ along, there’s a song that we’re singin’
      Come on, get happy
A whole lotta lovin’ is what we’ll be bringin’
      We’ll make you happy
      We’ll make you happy
      We’ll make you happy

You can make the mountains ring
      Or make the angels cry
Though the bird is on the wing
And you may not know why

      Come on people now
      Smile on your brother
      Everybody get together
      Try to love one another
      Right now

Some may come and some may go
      We shall surely pass
When the one that left us here
      Returns for us at last
We are but a moment’s sunlight
      Fading in the grass

      Come on people now
      Smile on your brother
      Everybody get together
      Try to love one another
      Right now

      Come on people now
      Smile on your brother
      Everybody get together
      Try to love one another
      Right now

      Come on people now
      Smile on your brother
      Everybody get together
      Try to love one another
      Right now

If you hear the song I sing
      You will understand (listen!)
You hold the key to love and fear
      All in your trembling hand
Just one key unlocks them both
      It’s there at you command

      Come on people now
      Smile on your brother
      Everybody get together
      Try to love one another
      Right now

      Come on people now
      Smile on your brother
      Everybody get together
      Try to love one another

Correct, it is the inability to recognize what is real. That we are mostly dealing with. Seems some here have this very problem.

    • James

How does liberalism not recognize what is real?
From what I see they recognize poverty and government quite well

I believe everyone who ever posted anything on this web site should watch the show on Crackle called The Inside Job. It lays out how we got here in this economic times and where it looks like where we are headed. It points the finger at those that have created this fine mess we call the Economy and doesn’t hold back any punches. This is a manual of the economic crash of 2008 and a blue print of what is happening at this very time. May God have mercy on us all if this is allowed to continue.

    • Bill G Wilminton NC

Will view The Inside Job………Thanks……I also believe that we are on the precipice of The Collapse and this collapse is by design to usher in NWO. We the American people are to be so financially crushed that we will accept ANYTHING.

Google “Everything Is a Rich Man’s Trick”, slightly conspiratorial but still a very good history of the powers that be.

I once read a really good book called the Power Holders by David Kipnis. He also wrote Power and Technology. The cool thing about his books is most psychology books study the worker, consumer, etc. Kipnis studied people in power and how their mind change as a result of having power. He basically showed evidence for the old adage “power corrupts and absolute power currupts absolutely” He show that the promise of technology is to give us power and leisure time to study the mind of God. But in actuality, technology centralizes power. His books were really amazing and very haunting to me to this day.

      • Bill G Wilminton NC

Yahwah (God) ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts.

We can never know the mind of Yahwah.

Read The Bible written by Yahwah( GOD) through over 40 DIVINELY inspired men and over 2000 years.
The Bible has 66 books laden with prophecy.

There are doubters and plenty of them but THEY are those that have not read/studied The New and Old Testament Bible.

Much to know in The Bible I have been reading/studying over 20 years and learn something new every day.

Dont you understand that THE CHILDREN are part of a family and THE DAD is out of work.

The fathers unemployment is why the kids are listed as food stamp recipients.

Why am I answering you……you just dont get things AND it is SCLEROSIS not SCLOROSIS.

    • James

Again, these dad’s make up only 5% of the people

      • Bill G Wilminton NC

        5 % of the POPULATION ! or 16 million people………..

        • James

Yes, only 5% of the population. Also must I remind you that many of these 16 million people are low-wage part time wage earners because they lack skills (genome sequencing, enzyme sequencing, financial analysis, virology, computer programming, etc. Subtract those and you get very few people that are unemployed and on food stamps

          • Bill G Wilminton NC

Philosopher gave some great advice. I would add that if you are interested in having a little extra food on hand, you might look into freeze dried. There are companies out there who sell ready-made meals and bulk, if you are so inclined, and the shelf-life is very long. I also read Martin Armstrong, as we do still invest. The only money we have in the bank (credit union) is what we need to cover our bills. Having no debt (not even a mortgage) is a great feeling, although the mortgage part is harder to achieve. (My husband is retirement age, but not retired, so we’ve had a little longer and the means to accomplish this.) We carry no personal debt and pay off our credit card monthly. We try to live below our means. We have a small garden at home and are also part of a community garden. We have a good network of friends and some neighbors upon whom we can rely. Basically, what we tried to do is think about what we might need if we were out of work for about 6-12 months and had no access to any of our retirement assets. Above all, don’t worry, do as much as you are able and enjoy your life.

  • Bill G Wilminton NC

Go see movie” The Big Short”……covers the corrupt banking and financial markets thru the 08 collapse……….will really open your eyes even more !
